Out of all snake species with medically significant venom, which ones are the least likely to actually bite someone, even in self-defense?
(For literary symbolism reasons)
I'm not sure if there's a 100% consensus on the snake that is least likely to ever bite, but coral snakes are most definitely up there in that regard! They are so mild-mannered and easy-going that I've heard countless stories of people who even picked them and handled them for a while, assuming them to be harmless kingsnakes, and the snakes never even thought about biting. 90% of coral snake bites occur when they're being handled; even if you step on them, they'll rarely actually bite you. You just about have to be persistently harassing them for a while to get a bite.
To add to that, coral snakes dry bite (bite without envenomating) about 50% of the time.

Is the whole "sucking poison out of a wound"-thing entirely fictional or is there some truth behind it?
This was a real recommendation in the mid-1900s, but it has been found to not work very well and probably do more harm than good.
It does not seem like sucking the venom out of a wound is particularly helpful. Or at least, not helpful enough to negate the risks associated with making a wound (most references that talk about sucking venom out of the wound also want you to cut across the wound) and then exposing the caregiver to blood against mucous membranes, which could transmit blood borne infections.
This cutting and then sucking venom extraction method seems to have been popular in the 1970s, but by the late 1980s it had gone out of favor. Today we use compression wraps to slow the spread of the venom instead.

I wonder how aonung would react to a reader with facial piercings, Like the ones that look like fangs? 🤔
OOOOHHH this one is interesting - ignore that I haven't checked my inbox literally since 2023 😭 but here goes anyway with Omatikaya reader because I think that makes sense somewhat? :) *not proof-read*
💋
At first, Aonung had hated those little piercings. Of course, he disliked you too, but they irked him beyond rational belief.
They glittered in the sunlight, firelight, and moonlight - so stupidly attention grabbing for something so tiny. They were mere silver dots, something he vaguely suspected he would hardly notice had it been anyone else.
They directed his gaze from anything, demanding his attention. And of course, you never failed to notice the way his gaze just seemed to rest at default on your lips. Lo'ak teased him about it constantly, and yet Aonung still found himself unable to break habit.
And then it had all shifted. You no longer hated Aonung and he you, and he began to see the little piercings as a challenge.
As he tried to scheme ways to taste you for the first time, to pull you into him and kiss you dazed, it was difficult to plot around the uncharted territory that was your piercing.
That was until he just through all hell to the wind and did it.
And he found that the piercings weren't a problem after all.
They were cold against his lips, a necessary relief from the seemingly scorching, addictive heat of your mouth on his.
Perhaps he liked them, after all.

Hans Makart, The Death of Cleopatra, 1875.
Liechtenstein, The Princely Collection
Hans Makart was a 19th-century Austrian academic history painter, designer, and decorator. He is best known for his influence on Gustav Klimt and other Austrian artists, but in his own era he was considered an important artist himself and a celebrity figure in the high culture of Vienna and attended with almost cult-like adulation.
Makart was the son of a chamberlain at the Mirabell Palace in Salzburg, Austria, born in the former residence of the prince-archbishops of Salzburg, the city in which Mozart had been born. Initially, he received his training in painting at the Vienna Academy between 1850 and 1851 from Johann Fischbach. While in the Academy, German art was under the rule of a classicism, which was entirely intellectual and academic—clear and precise drawing, sculpturesque modelling, and pictorial erudition were esteemed above all. Makart, who was a poor draughtsman, but who had a passionate and sensual love of color, was impatient to escape the routine of art school drawing. For his fortune, he was found by his instructors to be devoid of all talent and forced to leave the Vienna Academy.

I once heard someone talk about putting clay on a snake (specifically copperhead) bite to "pull the venom out". I doubt it's any more true than sucking the venom out, but is there any truth to it at all?
Nope, not at all. Absolute nonsense! Venom injection works mechanically a lot like a vaccine; it gets in your bloodstream so fast there's no way to pull it back out no matter what you try.
If you are bitten by a venomous snake, what you actually want to do is:
Get a picture of the snake that bit you, if at all possible
If you have a marker or a pen, draw a circle around the initially affected zone and jot down the time. That way, folks at the hospital will be able to judge how fast the venom is affecting you.
Remove any clothing or jewelry around the area - snake bites can cause massive swelling, especially viper bites.
Wash the bite with soap and water if you can.
Keep the bite lower than your heart - avoid the urge to elevate because that'll just help the venom move along quicker. Never, ever ice the wound or apply a tourniquet; you'll almost certainly lose the affected limb if you do that. Avoid compression bandages, too - that's a recipe for disaster with viper bites, so unless you're in Australia, just play it safe. Even if you're in Australia, don't use a compression bandage unless you know how.
It'll be hard, but try to stay as calm as you can. Remember you've got time, and the slower your heart rate is, the slower the venom is going to affect you.
And get to a hospital ASAP!!

If you do end up postponing Honeyfern's death 'til Battle of the True Eclipse (personally not a fan of this idea, gotta maintain the "anyone can die" vibe I was hooked on in middle school), what long-term effects after surviving a snake bite could Honeyfern expect? Alternatively, how feasable would her canon death be as the impetus for proper Berrynose Development instead of just making him sad for a while? Or is there not enough wiggle room for that?
I mostly don't want Proper Berrynose Development because I love the snotball. How can you not love the guy? He is SUCH a jerk and I love this about him. Never change, Berrynose, never change.
But the long-term effects of Honeyfern surviving the bite of an adder? It depends, but if it was a "survivable" bite, very little! Maybe some permanent nerve pain in the area. If it traveled, organ damage. The bite of an adder causes damage done to the cells it comes in contact with. "Venom-induced necrosis" is the fancy word for it.
In layman's terms, it burns the area it's exposed to like an acid. That's why it's not as serious if it doesn't get injected into a major artery-- it stays in that part of the body and damages it. If it gets into the bloodstream, it's carried to major organs and causes organ damage.
It HURTS though, it hurts and swells and it's VERY painful. Frecklewish being bitten between the eyes would blind her from the swelling. Honeyfern would have a fever and rapid heartbeat for several days.
Don't get me wrong though, an adder bite is a very serious injury, and they're treating this with stinging nettle, not actual antivenom.
