blake and yang losing 50 spots on the fandometrics 2022 ship list just shows that it’s only relevant because rwby is airing. when rwby finishes the ship is gonna get off the charts so fast 💀
A lot of ships and fandoms will be really popular during the height of the show/franchise, but the fandom will shrink after the end of the show/franchise. Something can blow up, and then grow smaller when the trend is over. This doesn't happen with all of them, some of the really big fandoms stay up and running, never quite dying no matter how long it's been. Like, the ship between Arthur and Merlin in BBC's Merlin went up 7 points, nearly ten years after the end of the show, and Spock and Kirk from Star Trek the Original Series went up fourteen points. You can never tell exactly what's gonna happen, what's gonna remain popular, what's gonna end up getting completely forgotten, etc. Fandoms are both fickle and freaking wild and unpredictable.
A part of me says that once RW/BY ends, a lot of the content creation and shipping and praise towards the show is gonna peter out and the fans are gonna move on to other things. But a part of me thinks that... It might stick it out. Here's why: Fans have put so much effort into this show, whether through rewrite AUs and fleshing out the world building, putting endless work into fanfics paying attention to character development and dynamics between people, or even sacrificing their time to debate and defend RW/BY and come up with explanations for all the BS that the writers do. In my opinion, the fans have put way more work into making something good than the writers have, they have to in order to just make RW/BY make sense. A fandom where the media itself isn't very well put together and needs a lot of work and doesn't have very much in terms of world building and character development and dynamics and story execution where the fans put their love and creative expression and work into it... That has just as much of a chance to last for a long time as a very well made labor-of-love high quality piece of media.
I do think that the fandom will lose a lot of casual fans after it ends and probably will drop in popularity, but there's every chance that it's gonna last at least a little and the bigger fans are just gonna stick around, because... Well, I would. There are very few pieces of media I ever drop completely even long after they're done no matter how disappointing or badly done I thought it was. And Bumble/by is the enforced ship in this fandom, it's the John/lock. It very well may stick around, especially if the writers stop dragging their feet and actually confirm it, because Bumble/by is kind of... The only thing that's keeping RW/BY on the map in my opinion. XD And on top of that, the Bumble/by fans are the ones who have actually made them into anything good or compelling. The fans are the people who write the fics where Blake and Yang actually talk about how Blake left, the fans are the ones who make the fan art showing Blake and Yang actually kissing or going on dates or getting married, the fans are the ones trying to keep the faith in the ship when RT and the writers let Yang be written to refer to Blake as her sister in Arrow/fell. So with how much work the shippers have put into this ship, I'm not sure they're gonna let it die that easily. They're a bit like John/lock fans, I think I could see them feverishly writing AU fics where their faves finally kiss looong after the show ends. XD

A general tip for students who are sending those dreaded Religious Absence Emails to your professors: Rather than asking permission to take the day(s) off, politely let them know that you will be taking the day(s) off.
In other words, consider not saying this:
"May I miss class on [date] so I can observe [holiday]?"
It's not that there's anything wrong with the above, per se. But because it's phrased as a request, it risks coming across as optional — a favor you hope to be granted. Problem is, favors are not owed, and so unfortunately asking permission opens the door for the professor to respond "Thanks for asking. No, you may not. :)"
Instead, try something along the lines of:
"I will need to miss class on [date] because I will be observing [holiday]. I wanted to let you know of this conflict now, and to ask your assistance in making arrangements for making up whatever material I may miss as a result of this absence."
This is pretty formal language (naturally, you can and should tweak it to sound more like your voice). But the important piece is that, while still being respectful, it shifts the focus of the discussion so that the question becomes not "Is it okay for me to observe my religion?", but rather, "How can we best accommodate my observance?"
Because the first question should not be up for debate: freedom of religion is a right, not a favor. And the second question is the subject you need to discuss.
(Ideally, do this after you've looked up your school's policy on religious absences, so you know what you're working within and that religious discrimination is illegal. Just in case your professor forgot.)

Alright, I'm going to attempt to hopefully clear up a few misconceptions and assuage some worries about this Disco Elysium sequel and the general situation at za/um right now.
I see the shitshow that is unfolding on social media, and as someone who has known about this whole disaster for over half a year now I'd like to weigh in on it and provide some context for everyone who may not know the full story.
First off, Robert Kurvitz was fired at the end of last year. December 2021. As is strongly implied on Martin Luiga's twitter, the reason for this is greed (calling them "money men" and "crooks" and other similar statements for like, months now), and the executive producers, Tõnis Haavel (who has previously been tried for fraud) and Kaur Kender (who has previously been tried for... other things.) screwed everyone over. Kender provided funding for the game, as the majority of the original za/um cultural association did not have the financial means to.
The original za/um cultural association consisted of Robert Kurvitz, Jüri Saks, Martin Luiga, and Aleksander Rostov, originally founded in in 2009. The group, along with Argo Tuulik, played many different ttrpg campaigns over the years, several of them set in Revachol (centred around Precinct 41), and slowly built the world up from there. Kurvitz released the book The Sacred and Terrible Air, set 20 years after Disco Elysium, back in 2013* but the novel flopped, and it was decided that they would make a video game. Rostov has always been more than just an artist for Disco Elysium, as you can see from the dev threads he frequently updated promoting the game, as well as on his personal instagram, tumblr sketch blog, and several other accounts he used while the game was first gaining traction.
*The most notable credits for TSaTA are as follows:
Author: Robert Kurvitz, Editor: Martin Luiga, Cover Design: Aleksander Rostov, Worldbuilding: Robert Kurvitz, Martin Luiga, Kaspar Kalvet, Argo Tuulik. Helen Hindpere and Kaur Kender also appear in the credits.
I say this because some of the staff at za/um are now accusing fans of being unable to overcome the "auteur theory" of it all (ie. seeing Kurvitz as the singular creative mind behind it all) but the fact is that they have now lost not only the original ttrpg campaign's game master, The Sacred and Terrible Air's author, and Disco Elysium's lead writer/director (Kurvitz) but also their lead writer for the Final Cut's political vision quests (Hindpere) as well as their "co-founder" and art director/designer (Rostov). They are all CREATIVE LEADS, and not just well known only for their reputations/titles.
Luiga himself (who originally broke the news) was an Elysium world builder and provided much of the pale and innocence-related lore. He was also a part of the original tabletop campaigns (Chester McLaine is his player character!), but left midway through Disco Elysium's development due to creative differences (or as he says, "bad vibes" at the company). He is credited as an editor, but claims to have written a good chunk of the text in the game, including much of Joyce's dialogue about the pale. I have seen people discredit him due to his early departure, but Rostov also tweeted out confirming that he, along with Hindpere and Kurvitz were no longer at the company, with no additional comments. Rostov also posted a drawing on his twitter several months back depicting a man jerking off over an NDA, so take that as you will.
So what does this mean for the future?
Luiga has said that he has hope for the sequel, which could either mean that the script was finished or nearing completion before Kurvitz was fired (likely, and fits a pattern in the industry) and it's just a matter of finishing the actual game development aspect, or it may be that he has hope for the original za/um creatives to be able to re-acquire the IP.
I think it's worth pointing out that the original pitch for "Disco Elysium" was actually "The Return", and Disco Elysium was meant to be the smaller-scale prequel to introduce players to the world. Considering that the team was planning on this sequel all along, I think it's possible that a large amount of the "original" game was written years ago, so it's not all that far fetched to believe that the basic outline may be finished, or even that a large portion of the script already exists. Keep in mind that there are a large number of writers for both Disco Elysium and The Final Cut, and it may still be possible to work with a base that the others provided. We have no idea how far into development the sequel may be. Of course, proceeding without three key members of the original team is kind of a kick in the balls, and imo really quite disgusting, especially with how long the company has been keeping their departures secret (dishonesty is not a good look lmao), but it may still be canon, true to the authors' vision, and genuinely a good game in the end.
Argo Tuulik, original Elysium world builder and part of the old ttrpg campaigns, as well as a main writer on Disco Elysium, is still working at za/um. Justin Keenan, former writer on The Final Cut who wrote the political vision quests alongside Helen Hindpere, still works at za/um (and has been promoted to lead writer, according to his LinkedIn), as does Kaspar Tamsalu, who painted several character portraits, (René and Gaston) and worked as a concept artist on the original game. Plenty of the original creatives still remain. The sequel could very well still be in good hands at the development level, even if the higher ups are "crooked".
So, in conclusion... If this game comes out and they still haven't worked things out with Kurvitz, Rostov and Hindpere? Honestly... fuckin' pirate it. But it is very likely it could still be a great game that plays out as it was meant to! All that being said, FUCK za/um as a company, don't support them through Atelier or their merch store. I wish everyone luck if they do attempt to get the IP back, and I sincerely hope this fan pressure will help get things moving for them.

Something I love about Light is he's a ridiculously tough character while also being a ridiculous tantrum thrower at times too. I think we the audience sometimes see him as a bit more volatile than he actually appears to other characters because we see all his inner freaking out and his private outbursts and his sneaky little grins and asides? So he's still fun and dynamic as a protagonist to follow and to watch, but he's also not actually passive or boring or a big wimp that gets frustrating to follow. He's just always up for whatever and incredibly sure he's going to come out the winner, even when he's stressed af or trying to win at the worst thing you've ever seen

hello! can i request some Jason centric fic recs?
this is actually such a difficult question. in spite of years spent reading jason-centric fanfics, it is very rare that i find something that i genuinely enjoy. still, i do have some favourites that i go back to.
beneficiary by @sirsparklepants (1/1, 2k)
my favourite post-death jay fanfic. it's such a beautiful, bitter-sweet conclusion to his legacy.
untitled by @pendulum-north (1/1)
this is a very short ficlet. absolutely riveting language, as expected of a poet. my favourite take on the canon divergence that is bruce dying instead of jason. would sell my soul for north to actually write more on it.
what the living do by Anonymous (1/1, 6,5k)
stunning. perhaps my all-time favourite. jason believes he's dead. dick takes him on a road trip.
complications by JHSC (1/1, 6k)
i want to tell you so badly why i adore this fanfic but that would spoil the conclusion. so instead i can just tell you that it contains my unpopular agenda for jason's character development.
the (family) doctor's appointment by smleeish (1/1, 4k)
i have some qualms with the minuatiae of this work but this sickfick surprised me with the depth of the character study. the conclusion is so beautiful in the way it gets to the core of jason's values.
jet black crow by starknjarvis (series, 2/2, 19k)
i normally avoid sex-worker aus so please do know that this had to really impress me to be found on this list. the main reason for which it winded up here is a conversation jason has with bruce in the second installment.
the clay steals the clay by zipadeea (1/1, 2,5k)
just give it a read. a haunting... fix-it. i think about the usage of catholic themes in this fanfic often.
PLUTO. by orpheusaki (@damianbugs) (1/1, 22k)
a huge reason for which i love this one so much is the thematic similarity to the earth-51 arc in countdown. there's such good understanding of what made jason who he is as the red hood & his relationship with batman as the symbol and with bruce as his father.
things that make it warm by one_step_closer_to_death (@hopeworth) (1/1, 4k)
my favourite jay & dick fanfic! if you've been following this blog for a while, you know i am very particular about their relationship. you also know that i believe in jason's need to reconnect with his childhood and that dick should be a part of it, and this piece delivers that in the sweetest way.
of broken, blazing wings by FrEShAVocaNoob (44/44, 190k)
before i get to the praise, i have to say that this fanfic does talia very dirty and that i am not a fan of how it deals with mentions of jason's childhood & his robin days. however, it is also 190k of jason having a perpetual mental breakdown and it follows canon event starting from the lost days and finishing with countdown. it has great pacing and an admirable balance of being plot-driven and the focus on character development. jay is so painfully young and lost. i also really enjoyed dick's attitude. it's a riot and an emotional rollercoaster. i will never recover from it.
compulsory (shameless) self-promotion:
leave no trace, a ficlet on ouroboros.
black out days, a lost days au which is not a story at all. about talia, jason, the need to mythologise and staying away.
and my wip robin (vol 2): future nostalgia, a jay lives au that is to contain follow major batman plotpoints such no man's land and murderer/fugitive.

I commissioned @tikklil from Twitter/Instagram again to draw 42 Miles/42 Gwen based off @bloody-writing's fic Tonight You Belong To Me. This fic is the reason why I ship them so hard, so I think it's only fitting that I commission fanart inspired by this fic as a thank you. Hopefully, I can do some more commissions based on this fic because there are scenes that I really think is worth seeing illustrated. So fingers crossed. (As a disclaimer, I did get permission to post the commission here.)

theres absolutely nothing wrong with being an adult who enjoys childrens media i would be the biggest hypocrite in the world if i said that there was. but i think some adult sonic fans need to be humbled. please look at the age ratings on anything sonic related. go to the kids clothing sections at target and see all the sonic stuff. if you have little cousins or nieces and nephews ask them what they think about sonic. please. because the way you think the sonic fandom is for adults only and get mad when you run into minors there is so embarrassing. the way you get mad over certain sonic media being too childish even though kids are the target audience is so embarrassing

RWBY volume 9 theories
Spoilers below the keep reading
(Note: I still haven't watched the episode, this is all simply based on the intro.)
So! I think Alice/Alex/New Girl could be Ruby, Oz, Oz's daughter, Penny, or Neo. And I'll explain why I think each option is plausible, but first I want to note that when everyone is walking and running in a line, New Girl is right at the front and the order they're in is clearly important.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, it starts out New Girl in the lead, Yang after her, then Blake, then Weiss, then Ruby. Then in the next one, it's New Girl, then Blake, then Yang, Weiss, and Ruby starting to trail behind as the others are picking up speed and she isn't. Then again, New Girl, Blake, Yang, Weiss, and Ruby with a now noticeable gap between her and the others. And then New Girl, Blake, Yang, Weiss, and Ruby now seeming to be starting to be left behind. But the sequence they're in clearly means something or else Blake and Yang wouldn't have swapped places. My theory on why Blake and Yang swap is that since I'm hearing Blake is the optimistic person giving speeches atm she winds up in a more leader-like position, and also possibly because Blake might start taking the lead in her relationship with Yang. That's my hope anyway. But yeah, all that to say that New Girl is at the front. If Ruby being at the back and falling behind is about her isolation and spiral and breakdown and not leading the others... Then New Girl is the opposite of that, she's not isolated, she isn't in a breakdown, she's the one at the front of the group and if Ruby falling behind in the back is commentary on her dropping out of her role as a leader than that means that New Girl is the opposite again and she's the leaader. Whoever this person is, I think she'll either permanently or temporarily take over in the leader role.
So here's why I think she could be Ruby, Oz, Oz's daughter, Penny, or Neo.
Ruby:
This one is all in the framing in the intro, and in the 'who will you be' questions we've seen in the trailer. In the intro, when we see things like Blake, Weiss, and Yang being lit with their emblems and being happy and then seeing Ruby grow only progressively sadder and not settle with being lit by her emblem... And then it's instantly followed by New Girl falling into the shot with versions of Ruby on either side of her head?
Tumblr media
And then also there's Ruby and New Girl on the bridge, where New Girl turns as a leaf flies over her and then she's Ruby looking all horrifying. So my thoughts are that if she's 'Ruby,' she's some alternate looking glass version of Ruby, like she's 'the manifestation' of something, or 'Ruby as she should be' or something. This is my least likely theory of who New GIrl is, but it's still on the table.
Oz:
This is mostly due to this picture
Tumblr media
Glasses guy in the background is obviously important, first of all, and second of all, New Girl here might be 'the girl who fell through the world' and it's possible that it was Oz the whole time. More importantly, Ozma in the actual Oz series was in the form of a boy and then turned into a girl and became close good friends (and probably more) with Dorothy (who is famously linked to the color 'ruby red.') This could create massive plot holes no matter if she's a next incarnation or an old incarnation, but... Nobody ever said the RWBY writers would avoid plotholes. It's possible.
Oz's daughter:
Again, this mostly comes down to glasses guy in the picture and the fact that New Girl is meant to be important. If they don't go with her being Oz, her being a daughter of Oz would also be very possible and she might be magic, or she might be the girl who fell through the world.
Penny:
This one is slightly based in aesthetics and also in the fact that Penny is wildly popular (and there was quite a bit of pushback when she was killed.) They might be fully intending to have death be meaningless enough to bring her back. But really, her look is very Penny-ish with the puffed sleeve and the skirt and the bow and the buttons and vest...
Neo:
This one... I kind of think might be it. I think this girl might be Neo in disguise. So first off, when New Girl is on the bridge and turns into creepy Ruby... Who can change their appearance at will? Neo. Who has disguised herself as Ruby before and might make Ruby make that painful face? Neo. And then when creepy Ruby is standing on the bridge, she drops and then it's the multicolored tea of Neo's. And then there's this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is drawing direct parallels between New Girl and Neo. Whatever the opening sequences are, for years they have not been subtle. I think it's possible that Neo is going to start trying to play them like a fiddle, disguised as this girl with some Penny and Oscar vibes (because let's remember who she chose to transform into when she was trying to get to Ruby in their midair fight, she knows they matter to Ruby.)
Anyway, these are just theories and sometimes RWBY can be hard to predict, but whoever Alice/Alex/New Girl is, whether she's any of the above or just an entirely new character... I'm looking forward to seeing her in action and seeing her potential dynamics with everybody else (something tells me I'm gonna come out of this season with a new ship lol.) And I really do think she's going to take on something of a leader role.

I've always felt that it'd be Killua who initiates the first hug we see between him and Gon
#i have my reasons for this#i feel like i'm in the minority though... i know gon is honest and much more emotionally expressive#but he's not actually more tactile than killua#i... i actually do think that it's killua who initiates much of the contact between them (fistbumps and poking and hand on shoulder)#if i'm not mistaken anyways#and he's very tactile with alluka and nanika (carrying + hugs + handholding)#granted that's his sister(s) but still. killua is far from touch averse - his getting embarrassed is a cute trait to be sure#but i do think he'll get a bit better at accepting that kind of thing once he's had some time with alluka and nanika#a lot of that does come after all from his feelings of unworthiness - and now that his sisters need open affection after so long being alon#he's going to have to gain at least some comfort with giving and receiving love#gon and mito go for hugs either at the same time or mito initiates. gon hugs leorio in the scene right after he's revived#but idk idk i just feel like he won't be the first to initiate a hug with killua especially since i suspect he still feels quite guilty#i think it would show growth on both their parts. not to mention it'd be very sweet to have gon a bit blindsided + happily surprised#as he's the one typically honest and forthright with appreciation and compliments while killua is. not. lmao#i think he should receive a nice hug from his best friend. and then i think they would both know it's gonna be ok. :')#storyrambles#hunter x hunter#hxh#killua zoldyck#gon freecss#this is so sappy. what's wrong with me. this is what they do to me.

Can I just say this really quick? I read the Percy Jackson series as a 12 year old blonde girl.
(A 12 year old blonde girl with dyslexia and ADHD, no less.)
Blonde Annabeth means nothing to me. I have never felt disrespected by some sort of dumb blonde stereotype… i have been blonde (with dyslexia and ADHD) my entire life and never called a dumb blonde. In fact, I think the struggles I’ve had with My learning disabilities have been softened because I was a little blonde girl and people were patient with me. The stereotype just doesn’t exist anymore if it ever did. I do not need Annabeth to be blonde, I do not want Annabeth to be blonde. No one needs Annabeth to be blonde.
Now Black Annabeth. Now that’s the good shit. That enriches her arc. That makes so much sense. What a good idea. I honestly can’t think of a single black character with learning disabilities. If they do it right? I can’t fucking wait.
So anyone saying that Annabeth was important to little blonde girls hurt by the dumb blonde stereotype? Do not believe them. I was the little girl they are trying to use as a scapegoat and I could have cared less, even back then. When I was 11 I did not need a blonde role model. You know what I needed? A black protagonist I could relate to. I needed to be exposed to the racism little black girls face. I was ignorant as fuck back then, probably still am. Black Annabeth would have helped me. And it will help black girls who are still looking for positive, smart representation.
So anyway anyone who’s against Black Annabeth can stay away from me please thank you goodnight.
