So, thinking 'bout those Trigun names, there. It is one of those animes where many characters are just ridiculously named. Vash = Vache (Cow). Millions Knives (*sporfle!*) - a lady named Rem who appears to Vash during his R.E.M. sleep... By far my favorite name in this series was from the little one-shot comic about Vash's day-to-day life. I think he was unnamed in the 1998 anime, but I remember in the manga version, he was "Super Sonic Sodom the Great." Just... OMG!

Hi Maggie, happy holidays! Is there a facet of J/D that you find under-explored in fic and/or meta that you think should get more airtime? Or, if rarely-explored, do you have any recs of works that really pull it (whatever it is) off well?

Okay so. I took a little time to think about this and although I do have a soft spot for the idea that although temperamentally and narratively John has much in common with Sam, to me it's likely that John and Dean share more when it comes to their sex lives/experiences. John also has a dad-hole a mile wide, and when he joined up underage at 17 with the Marines I'm pretty sure he sucked a lot of cock about it and most likely had some rough encounters, not just with his corpsmates but also officers and there was a shit-ton of power dynamics at play there.

So when it comes to him and Dean specifically, I think there's a lot of room to explore John not hitting all of the expected Daddy marks that are generally expected in that kind of pairing -- I do think he'd like hurting Dean, and knowing Dean's getting off on it, but that would go the other way as well. It's just it would take a bit for them to both get there because it's not what they'd fall into as the 'natural' way to be, ideas of masculinity etc etc. I also think Mary dommed him a lot because she's tougher than John is and because all that frustrated ex-Hunter energy had to go somewhere and where better than some pegging and sadism with her doting husband.

I'm absolutely Team Tandem Turning Tricks when it comes to J/D because I think it would (hah hah hah) make John feel like a better father if he's there while they're doing sexwork rather than sending Dean off to do it alone. Like yeah Dean's the bait, of course, but between the two of em I don't think they'd have much trouble selling themselves as a double act. Hell, they could probably get away with fucking each other while the trick watches, which is the optimum kind of job. John teaches Dean about roofies and how to hold his liquor and tells him "your mom showed me how to not cum until you're allowed to" and one of their acts they do is where Dean is daddy's little girl, that's real popular.

Unfortunately I don't have a lot of recs built up for this kind of thing but hopefully in the future as I keep reading people's fic I will!! It's possible i've read some that fit but my goldfish memory has done away with them so hey if anybody has recs of their own I will HAPPILY TAKE THEM <3 <3 <3

Full TLT series to date thoughts on rereading Gideon the Ninth, chapters 21-25

A probably semi-regular weekly bonus to my reread blog, since sometimes you realize things on reread that just make you need to yell in a full spoiler space.

The childish glee with which I use "body soup" to describe a bath cannot be easily summed up in text form. I made sporfling giggle noises that startled the cats into glaring at me.

It's really fun to see Protesilaus's body desecration play out like it does, knowing what happened. Not a sentence that sounds good out of context, but y'know. It's still fun.

I know there's no logical reason to think that Gideon being John's daughter by genetics should confer any affinity in particular for Earth or the weather there, but nevertheless, I can't help but make big looking-eyes emoji face when the narration draws attention to how she's learned to tell the weather a bit from the cloud types, and she can smell it in the air.

I never noticed before that Muir invokes Babel right as the Houses start to really break apart from each other in chapter 23. What a beautifully apt metaphor, with the primary exception that Cytherea isn't God so the whole thing falls apart from a purely literal angle, but lots of the other bits line up great!

You know, I wonder if Canaan House is literally built on the spot where John's first bunker was? Not being able to mental picture to compare, I'm not sure, and I don't think I've seen any posts mentioning it. Something about Isaac saying they brought a lot of bodies here once just… feels odd, in context of the Nona reveals.
