I keep finding it so uncomfortable when people differentiate between women and men in my surroundings, and assume that some people are men and some are women. It's uncomfortable both because what if someone doesn't identify with whatever gender they may look like, and because why is it an important distinction in the first place?

Granted, there may be circumstances where it's relevant, but for context let me list some examples of what I mean. These are examples that I've experienced in the recent weeks:

When playing a game that requires two teams, someone suggested that the women should play against the men, and then when this ended up being the case, regular jokes were being made related to gender whenever someone made a bad play

At lunch, someone said "looks like we're all women here today"

Whenever someone who presents as a man has done something stupid or whatever (whether a celebrity or just a regular person), it's common for people to tie that stupidity to the fact that the person is "a man". This seems like a tactic that's sometimes used in order to gain social benefit with women. For example, ending a story about something stupid someone did by going, "ugh, men"

It's also common to hear people mention someone's gender in a story they're telling as though the gender is relevant to the story, when usually it really isn't relevant at all. For example, "... and then she did X and Y, which isn't strange at all because she's a woman, and then he said Z ..."

I know these are innocent things people do and say, and they likely aren't even aware that it can be uncomfortable for some people. Maybe for people who strongly identify as either gender it can even be affirming to have people say these things. I just wish I knew a good way to say that it's making me uncomfortable without having it become a big thing or making them think I'm overreacting

#part of it is definitely because I'm starting to think that the distinction is useless in most contexts #But I'm also wondering what this says about my own gender identity #I still haven't figured out whether I do identify as some variant of nb or not #It might honestly just be that I'm uncomfortable about being lumped into a group based on a factor I deem irrelevant #But idk? I wish it was easy to figure out my own identity. Sigh #Maybe I just want to be part of a group without having to be arbitrarily lumped in with others based on how I look #I'm reading a book rn btw which takes place in a future where gender identity is never assumed #Whenever a new person is introduced the they/them pronouns are used until that person's specific gender identity is presented #The author describes people based on aspects of their appearance but the gender identity doesn't always correlate with appearance #So appearances that today are commonly viewed as 'male' or 'female' do not always correlate with people's actual gender identity #And it's deemed disrespectful to assume gender identity when it's not been confirmed yet #I haven't read very far yet but there's been one scene where a person did assume someone's gender identity #And it was presented in the book as 'wow this person is an asshole who assumes gender identity in order to insult me' #I think it's so refreshing to read #The book is called The Spare Man. been trying to dissect why I'm always so beyond irritated when I see news articles/socmed chatter on AI and I haven't really come to any solid conclusion on it but I think I can kinda boil it down to two things:

first is general misinformation. it's just...so incredibly frustrating to see people wail about the ~threat~ AI poses to our society in conjunction with the huge fake news issues, while also spreading around news articles/essays/etc that are so poorly researched they're basically fake news as well. it's not even hard stuff to fact check! things like AO3 being scraped for AI training data (completely false, there's multiple sources against it but the logic doesn't even track) (isolated issue, but there's a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation on what was scraped for training data period), attempts to conflate the multiple copyright lawsuits as the same thing despite each dealing with different AI tech and sourcing issues (if these cases were similar, they would be linked together, just like the two authors suits were), AI putting 4000 US workers out of jobs in a month (everything references one news article with that headline, but said news article sites one economy report which never states anything of the sort), the general preconception that writers and actors are striking over AI (they're not. they're striking over residuals and lack of pay. AI is a part of discussions as they're covering multiple bases to prevent further exploitation of workers, but that's a distinctly different issue and it's wrong to place a stronger emphasis on AI than the exploitation. AI can't replace writers (though they can't afford the months of studios attempting to replace them with it) and they will want to at least ensure proper compensation for their content being used to train AI if they have to concede that point. there are already strict California state laws protecting individuals right to their image/voice/person, and while protective and preventative measures are currently state legislation and only present in about half the states, there are still federal level protections and precedents for people's right to publicity, and the US Senate is also currently drafting policy that would enact protections against use of personal image/voice/etc, open up more opportunities for recourse for people who have had their images stolen, and enact severe punishments on violators to thoroughly discourage the possibility of abuse. actors don't have to fight for this right in of itself because the LAW already covers them). and there's more than just these, but that last one segways into what is my second but I think bigger complaint:

people seem so like...enamored with the idea of individuals sticking it to the system that they're ignoring the very real systems that can make a difference. like. okay, 1) copyright won't solve AI issues. none of the current cases have the capability of making such a grand change, but that's a long discussion that will just detract from my point. but also 2) a system that's only reactionary is BAD. it shouldn't be on copyright lawsuits (or two worker strikes either for that matter) to stop AI abuse, which is why it's not. there are multiple discussions going on in the US Senate right now to create...a whole battery of preventative measures really, and a system to enact regulate and enforce them. things like extensive safety tests conducted by multiple parties before AIs are released to market, ways to prosecute for deliberate spread of misinformation or abuse of private or copyrighted data, more transparency on training data and engines capabilities, preventing and prosecuting the horrible abuse of outsourced workers (ala OpenAI and the Kenyan workers), better protections for people's personal and private data, ways to protect workers from companies exploiting them via AI, and more. and while what I was reading was the US Senate discussions, there's the emphasis that this has to be a worldwide effort and they're talking to multiple foreign governments. the politicians know they dropped the ball on properly regulating social media, they're sick of AI developer's bullshit excuses too, and they're working hard to do something about it and get ahead of the curve before people get hurt.

and like. besides the fact that it's extremely unfair to put so much pressure on individual cases to fix a systematic issue that's significantly larger and broader than the issue of scraped data, this is literally the way to stop AI abuse. preventative and proactive is far more important than reactionary. this is a way people can act and get involved directly.

I'm just so...annoyed every time I see people complaining that no one's doing anything about regulating AI, when there's a lot of very real and important work getting done. this is a not even slightly hopeless issue! that news is a lie! and sure, it's funny to imagine AI developers being forced to pay out millions or wipe their slates clean, but even if burning things to the ground was an option on the table (...it's probably not btws), it does nothing to address the issue that this tech exists and needs to be regulated to prevent human harm, so it's especially annoying to see so much like...triumph and gloating over lawsuits that haven't even properly begun and so little awareness of the policy work trying to break ground. gah.

also the "AI's detrimental because of fake news" complaints while engaging in apparently zero research or fact checking themselves. I'm extremely irritated over that 🤦

Normally when you get a partner, you’re supposed to be obsessed with them. You think about them when they’re not there, talk about them with your friends, and try to be near each other all the time. People call it infatuation. The infatuation stage lasts about a couple of weeks to a couple a months. It’s supposed to wear off.

But not for Eren. Eren can’t get enough of you. The way your scent lingers through his house after you spent the night. He begged you to stay over longer but you just HAD to go back home. The way your glossied up pretty lips curve into a smile every time he talks. The way those lips give him a peck, leaving a stain. How you roll your eyes when he flirts with you. The way you nibble on your lip when thinking about something.

The way he talks about you to his friends, (especially the girls who try to hit on him) is just the sweetest thing, but can be annoying. He can go on for hours about you, and every little thing you do. Normally people have to tell him to shut up because he will not stop!! When he starts with his friends, Jean will roll his eyes while Connie says “Here he goes.” (Eren would say “That’s why you don’t have a girlfriend, because you both are fucking ugly.” And Armin would have to calm down the argument.(Happens every other day tbh.))

Eren would get items he sees that remind him of you. Sometimes it’ll be a flower other times jewelry. If he’s out with friends he’ll stop all of them before casually buying a pink stuffed animal (Jean would try to make fun of him but would backfire, badly.(Armin help them, again please.)) When he would get home, he’d hand it to you with this boyish grin on his face. He’d always tell you he’d get you something better next time.

little disclaimer is that my collection is always a work in progress so i don't love how some of my shelves look rn but it changes all the time so that's okay!

here's a general overview and i'll do a shelf by shelf tour under the cut!

starting off with my favourite madoka magica set! i love how dynamic the poses are and they look so badass but delicate at the same time <3

and my second favourite madoka magica set! this madoka was actually my first scale figure ever :)

ofcourse i need a homumado shelf <3 i don't usually put non-scale figs in here but that sitting homura just matches the madoka too well so i had to make an exception!

i try to have a theme for each shelf so as you see this one is like a traditional clothing shelf!

this is my halloweeney shelf! definitely will be expanding this in the future as i am obsessed with halloween <3

these ladies don't have much in common but they all have some hot/deep pink in them so i still like them together!

this is my racing/street style miku shelf! (it's starting to sound far fetched but these shelves all make perfect sense to me ok)

ok this one is not supposed to be like this but neither of them fit anywhere else so they're just chilling down here for now. will change as soon as i get new figs that match either of them!

my beautiful goth girlfriends! they can't really hold hands physically but they are holding hands mentally <3

my beloved annoying men <3 btw dabi is a 1/8 scale and gojo is a 1/7 so it's crazy how big dabi turned out i was so surprised!

chainsaw shelf! sadly this denji turned out kinda bad but together with bishoujo ash williams i do kinda like him....they're cool together :)

and lastly the rest of my horror bishoujo ladies! this shelf is a little empty rn but i have the friday the 13th one, the hellraiser one, the other beetlejuice version (striped jacket), the other pennywise version (coloured instead of monochrome) and the other ash williams version (groovy version aka extra bloody) in the mail rn so that's super exciting!

that's my whole scale figure display! i have some scale figures in boxes that i'm planning on selling and i obviously didn't include any of my nendoroids and prize figures, since those are mostly in boxes rn until i figure out a good way to display them.
