Splash page from an officially licensed 1988 guide/activity book for Super Mario Bros. 3, from Japan. Interestingly, the drawings include an illustration of Mario plucking a turnip from the international version of Super Mario Bros. 2, which did not release in Japan until much later, in 1992.
This would have made the drawing reference a game that was mostly unknown in Japan at the time (as most players would have only been familiar with Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic, the game it was a retool of).

It is a legend no one will forget. Everyone thought King Koopa had left the Mushroom Kingdom, and then...
I finally went and released my old model of the Doomship from the Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon! I made it all the way back in 2010, though I didn't really finish it until 2021 when I added the anchor and figurehead. I was hoping to clean it up more or do something cool with it, but I decided I've been hoarding it long enough. It's not super-detailed and doesn't have any interior, but the whole exterior shape is there. I pity the animators that had to draw this thing from so many different angles.
Lately, I've been feeling plenty proud of my transgender identity, and wanted to make a small sprite piece centered around it... doubling as Super Star Sisters content no less!
