Moving to the freezer 🍁

Hello from Canada, where the weather is just as bipolar as Katy Perry's Hot 'n Cold song. In the past 3 days I have already seen people with hats, gloves, skirts, shorts, warm winter boots and slippers. Upon arriving it was 5 degrees Celsius and raining. Weather prediction for Friday is highs op 28 degrees. A lot to get used to.

A small side note, I will continue to use the superior metric and centigrade system as the Canadians apparently can't decide on which measurement system they prefer to use. Road distances are measured in kilometers, a door height in feet and inches. All weight is measured in pounds, but driving speed in kilometers per hour. Very confusing.

Last week Monday the movers arrived and cleared the house. This was a bit worrying as we lived in a furnished house, and thus had to make sure they would not take what did not belong to us. We briefly considered telling them to clear the house out, and losing our deposit. After all, our deposit was probably a 10th of the nice furniture in the house and it would solve us a lot of hassle of buying new stuff. Luckily all went well and we believe everything that should've stayed remained. Who knows, maybe in 2 months we will unwrap some surprise gifts from the 23 cubic meters, or is it 812 cubic foot 🤔...

So once the house was raided we got to stay in a hotel we could pick from a list provided by Naomi's work. Obviously, if such an opportunity arises you select the one for the coolest experience. We ended up staying in Hotel des Indes. While Naomi still had to work, I finished up the last jobs in NL and roamed around the old center of The Hague to soak it in one last time. Arguably, the best attribute of our hotel was that it was so close to Laura's work, which allowed me to meet up with her for lunch on multiple occasions.

Then Saturday came, and it was time for departure. It was great seeing Laura, Kevin and Lars come to the airport and wave us off. After some chats and tears, it was finally time to leave. The repatriation came with business class tickets, which is a game changer for long distance travelling in my opinion. Lounge access prior to departure with lots of free food! A seat that allows you the completely recline and stretch out! Proper cutlery 😱😱😱! Never did I think an upgrade would make such a difference. But I remain with both feet on the ground. This experience probably got me my one and only KLM house. Next time back it's back to peasant class.

Upon arrival Naomi's parents picked us up and drove us around to get groceries. A big thank you to them for all their help and starter care packages. Today we have finally settled in to our 40m2 (431 sq ft) apartment where we will stay till our shipment arrives, hopefully within the next 8-10 weeks. Location is superb, right in down town. It's a 10 minute walk away from Naomi's work, and about 20 minutes to the library where I will mostly likely spend my time the coming months preparing for the PCE exam. The picture below is from one of our walks, and reminds me of the beautiful nature this country has to offer. Rockies in the distance!

I’m feeling dumb today lol how would Marrow use his tail in combat exactly???

Oh I don't actually have a good answer for that lol. I meant it more in a "The heroes' faunus traits as a whole are underused in combat" as opposed to "A dog tail, incapable of gripping like a monkey tail, specifically needs to be used somehow." But maybe Marrow needs his tail for balance, much like a dog would. (What if Neon fell in her fight not because of a bit of rubble, but because her tail was hurt?). Maybe it's a way of helping to control his body temperature (and having a furred appendage is particularly useful in the Atlas climate. Does the army look to specifically recruit faunus with those kinds of biological advantages?) Maybe it's a form of communication beyond wagging it as a gag. Imagine Marrow smiling and laughing because everything's just fine... but his teammates notice the position of his tail and realize that whoever he's talking to isn't to be trusted. But, you know, stuff like that requires worldbuilding the faunus with more detail and crafting an Ace Ops team that are allowed to be seen as competent, trusted teammates.

Or, far more easily, RT might have the tail be mostly aesthetic, but other dog traits are beneficial (or a hindrance) to huntsmen. Can Marrow run faster than most of his non-semblance boosted peers? Is his hearing better? Sense of smell? Does he possess any strength or agility beyond what's granted by aura? It's really less about having to use what we've already got and more about the initial designs failing to consider the whole animal. Which in the heroes' case is, as said, largely because RT just wants the cute aesthetic. Why does Blake only get cute ears instead of vicious, useful claws? Why does Marrow only get the cute tail instead of a knack for undercover work due to superb hearing? Why did the fandom need to go through a big debate in Volume 7 when Tyrian attacked because the whole frame job hinges on no one seeing him, but we thought that certain faunus could see in the dark? Most of the villains have faunus traits that are intimidatingly useful in a combat show, whereas most of the heroes' are just... there. Hell, RWBY could have even gone the route of a 'useful' tail being a source of envy for some. I sure do wish I could wield my tail like you do yours, Sun. That would be damn nice as a fellow fighter. Mine just ensures I don't fall flat on my face :/

rhodes island really does a good job of creating an environment where infected and non-infected are treated (much more) fairly and, most importantly, more humanly (for lack of a better term). from a player's perspective, its not always obvious who's infected and who's not just based on their appearance. in meta terms, the art direction is superb. and in in-game terms? RI treats these operators well enough.

hope this makes sense. read through anthony's files and was shocked to find he's infected. you get conditioned to think that infected Should live better lives, and it makes you not obsess over whether or not an op is infected.

other ak media also shows this relatively welcoming environment RI has, an example being the recent cooking manga. the original character introduced, a rim billiton cautus (sorry i forgot her name) was ultimately exiled from her former mining camp after the other miners found out she had oripathy. now, in RI, amiya bumped into her in the kitchen; she wants the cautus' help in making a rim billiton dish. when the cautus snaps at amiya's supposed preachings about RI's welcoming environment, amiya simply rolls up her sleeve. oripathy. and shes taken aback.

what i like about this bit is that she didnt realise amiya was an infected. its from there, she slowly sees that in RI, there is much less discrimination against infected, if at all.

Anime I Watched in 2022 Part 1:

1. Belle 3/5

*spoilers ahead*

Ughhh I really wanted to like this one. The songs and ost’s were amazing and the visuals were beautiful. I think the creators focused so much on the music that they lost sight of the plot. I had so many questions at the end of the movie: why did she go to rescue the kids on her own; couldn’t her father or some other adult go with her? Why did they build up a romance between her and Beast for nothing to come of it? Why after the entire movie of her friend not being interested in her, he suddenly showed romantic interest? I really wanted to love this movie like everyone else did but I can’t.

2. Promare 5/5

EPIC. The only word I can use to describe this movie. From the soundtrack, to the visuals, storyline and likable characters,this one will hook you from the opening scene. This one will have you feeling like you’re on an acid trip but it’s a good one, trust me. This is one anime movie I can see myself rewatching many times and never get tired.

3. Banished from the Hero Party 4/5

Such a cute romance. Very likable characters. The plot was interesting and the romance was so adorable; my only criticism is that it felt a bit rushed at the end but overall it was a great series. Doubt we’ll be getting a second season though 🥺

4. The Boy and the Beast 4/5

This movie got a lot of negative reviews and I can’t understand why. It was so interesting and going in blind I didn’t expect certain events to take place. I really enjoyed this one. The artwork, the soundtrack and even the characters were all amazingly done. If you haven’t watched this one give it a chance. Ignore all the bad reviews and go into this with an open mind.

5. Demon Slayer Season 2 10,000/5

Where do I begin with this masterpiece. Uzi Tengen has my heart, ; honestly he’s my second favorite Hashira (Giyu being the first ofc). Can we nominate Inosuke as the MVP of this season? This was a relatively short Arc but my god the studio did such an amazing job that every Sunday I was glued to my screen. Once again the Op and Ed were greatly done. The animation was top tier. The voice acting was superb. This is one of those series that I’ll actually sit down and rewatch with no problems

6. Moriarty the Patriot 4/5

This one has been sitting in my watch list for a while. I don’t know why I never gave it a chance before but I’m glad I did. This was such a nice twist on the Sherlock Holmes world. It was so good that in the beginning I didn’t even realize that the characters were based on the Sherlock novels (yes I missed the first couple minutes of the first episode but don’t worry because I binged it after I was done); this series got me supporting criminals without even realizing it. The writing in this was so good. And the chemistry between Moriarty and Sherlock 😚. My only criticism is that after reading the manga A LOT was left out that really fleshed out the stories and characters. Seriously hoping for another season but from that ending I really doubt we’ll get one.

7. Eight Six 86 5,000,000/5

I really want to kick myself in the behind for this one. I started this late last year and dropped it after the first episode. I really wasn’t feeling it. Maybe because mecha isn’t my favorite genre of anime but I wasn’t hooked so I put it aside and convinced myself that I would continue once the second season had been concluded; I didn’t. But a tiny voice at the back of my mind persuaded me to watch it and boy am I glad I did. The soundtrack was godly. Jesus Christ I don’t think I’d love a soundtrack more than AoT and Gintama but this won me over. The characters were all likable; expect the republicans of San magnolia, they can all rot in hell. It depicts a more realistic take on racism and war that your heart breaks for the soldiers especially knowing that most of them are children. Shin and Lena, two characters that never met face to face had so much chemistry that they could give a lot of Shojo animes a run for their money. I loved this series so much that I went on to read the novels. I might do a more in depth review on those later but seriously everyone needs to give this anime a chance.

8. Ranking of Kings 10,000/5

This is another series I almost ignored but thank goodness good sense prevailed and I gave it a chance. I was one of those who judged it because the artwork looked like classic cartoon drawings but my first indicator of this being a spectacular series was that it was being produced by Wit Studio. The character development in this one was amazing. What I loved about this series is that we couldn’t judge a character from first meeting them. Everyone had their reasons and stories for being the way they were. Boji is not your typical anime protagonist, with many disabilities that made the people of the kingdom judge him harshly, he definitely deserves best boy award and the world. Watching him at the beginning of the series had me crying in the middle of the night. Seriously he deserves everything. And queen Hilling is the MVP of the series; she took the clichéd step mother role and turned it on its back. If you haven’t given this one a try please do, you won’t regret it.

9. Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2 5/5

There are no words to describe how much I enjoyed this season. Seriously, Mappa outdid themselves. I know a lot of people are upset that we have to wait for Part 3 but I actually prefer that they take their time to animate the ending because there’s still so much to cover. Also can we talk about how amazing the OST’s were this season. Like goddamn!

10. Parasyte: The Maxim 4/5

I really enjoyed this one. I did. Honestly. If you ask me why I feel so cheated with the ending I can’t tell you. I guess I expected a more of an all out war between Migi and the other parasytes but nope. Trust me I get it, the ending was the most reasonable but I still felt like something was missing. Maybe I need to rewatch. But story wise, it was great; the main character was very likable. Seeing him turn from a regular teenager to cold, emotionless and back to his self was enjoyable. Tbh I didn’t really like the female lead but I guess she grew on me in the last episode. Also, the opening and ost’s were giving me an eargasm.

A while back on Reddit, I saw a post that asked ‘list your favourite and least favourite thing about every Kingdom Hearts game. And I thought that seemed like a pretty fun thought experiment. So I wrote down my own answer to that here: The best and worst thing about every Kingdom Hearts game (that I’ve played):

Kingdom Hearts 1 (my personal favourite)

The best thing: I’m tempted to say the story, because I think 1 does an especially good job at telling its otherwise simple story through the gameplay. But instead I’ll go for the general gameplay structure. KH1 is the only game in the series to remind me of a Zelda game. Instead of going all in on action RPG combat through hallway maps, the level design combines combat, exploration, puzzle solving and even platforming. No other game in the series has even attempted this since (KH3 came closest). And it greatly adds to the immersion. I would’t say any KH game has quite made you feel like you’re going through Disney worlds entirely. But KH1 is the closest and kinda reminds me of wandering through Disney theme parks. That immersion also adds to the sense of atmosphere, which is easily at it’s best on this game

The worst thing: The camera/controls. Platforming may be a nice splash of variety, but it’s a lot less less fun when it doesn’t actually control well. Sometimes it just feels like you’re being asked to do things the controls can’t reliably pull off. And the zoomed in camera makes combat visibility much worse. KH1 is already one of the tougher games in the series and this exacerbates that for the wrong reasons.

Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories

The best thing: The story. Sora and Riku are tested in new ways that showcase new sides to their characters. This was a good introduction for the Organization into the series. Marluxia is chilling as a main threat, and we get my boi Axel and my girl Larxene. They feel like a genuine threat and are mysterious but not exhaustingly vague. Donald and Goofy get proper character stuff for once. Riku’s arc is a standout that begins to subvert the series’ very black and white depiction of Light and Darkness in a way the series frankly hasn’t even attempted since.

The worst thing: The combat. I like customising decks but the actual combat falls apart in execution. Sleights are either godly, or pathetically weak with no inbetween. And every fight feels the same as they generally consist of spamming the same OP sleights in order to win…assuming the RNG gods bless you with the cards to actually pull off those sleights reliably.

Kingdom Hearts 2:

The best thing: The combat. God the gameplay in 2 is so good. You have so many more options than in the first game and practically all of them are viable. And Critical Mode especially practically demands that you know how to use all your tools effectively if you want to make it through. The controls and general flow are on point. It’s sharp, it’s kinetic, it has a low skill floor but a high skill ceiling. Absolutely superb.

The worst thing: The level design. Sadly 2 is where the series got so focused on combat that it turned into a hallway simulator. Instead of bringing back puzzles, platforming and exploration with the better controls, the game just cuts them out instead. This streamline the game sure, but now it lacks a lot of the flavour. And of course, this is largely done because your movement abilities are all tied to Drive forms, making them entirely optional, which I don’t think was a good move at all.

Haven’t played Days so no comment:

Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep:

The best thing: The soundtrack. This might be my favourite OST in the series. Aqua’s theme, Rage Awakened, Dismiss, Unbreakable Chains, a fantastic set of overworld themes (with Enchanted Dominion being my favourite). It’s varied, it’s evocative. It’s Yoko Shimomura firing on all cylinders.

The worst thing: The repetition. On a macro level, doing all 3 campaigns is very tedious. Terra, Aqua and Ventus’ stories aren’t distinct enough to make playing them feel varied. They all blur together outside of a few good moments. On a micro level, this version of the Command Deck has all the same problems as Re:COM. It’s shallow. easily broken, too dependent on RNG, and makes every fight feel the same.

Haven’t played Coded.

Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance (my least favourite not counting the mobile games)

The best thing: Symphony of Sorcery. One of, if not the best Disney worlds in the entire series. A fantastic musical gimmick to its sound design that makes the world feel weird and abstract in a way I wish more of DDD’s levels were. Actual platforming and light puzzle solving for the first time since KH1. And some good character stuff, including letting us see a younger Mickey, and the iconic Dearly Beloved scene between Sora and Riku.

The worst thing: The story. If you follow me, you’ve heard me give this rant before. A mess that constantly finds new ways to meander and waste your time, spends half its runtime nostalgically pandering to the previous games instead of doing anything new and butchers most of the characters. People give this game flack for the time travel but there frankly the least of my problems. The dream world premise screams wasted potential too. The only good thing is some very cute interactions between Sora and Riku, but both of them are so flanderised that even that feels hollow.

Dropped Union Cross after 200 or so chapters and just watched the cutscenes. TLDR, New characters are fun but the gacha is disgustingly invasive.

Kingdom Hearts 3:

The best thing: The variety. 3 bucks the trend of the handheld games with their heavy linearity and repetitive encounters with the most varied experience by far. You have more options in combat than ever, which means every encounter can be approached differently. It’s not quite as well balanced as 2, but I love just how much is at your disposal. The level design is FINALLY more open and closer in style to the first game and there’s just enough world gimmicks and minigames to spice things up. Exploring the sea in the Caribbean is easily my favourite of these gimmicks.

The worst thing: The pacing. I won’t say the story itself as my thoughts are very complicated and tbf, I don’t think BBS, DDD or X did a very good job setting up this finale. But 3’s pacing of its story is inexcusable. This game uses the exact same structure as DDD, and much like that game, it wastes your time. Clearing a world gets you a few cutscenes carrying on a couple of disparate plot threads, you get an Organization encounter mid world if you’re lucky, and everything else is crammed together at the very end. This game had FAR too much story to wrap up to afford to waste time like this. A restructuring of the first half alone to decompress the climax and allow for more character moments would do this story wonders, for all its other faults.

Haven’t played Melody of Memory.

And there you have it. The biggest pros and cons of each Kingdom Hearts game I’ve played. Which hopefully doubles as a kind of mini summary if my thoughts on the series as a whole. Feel free to reblog and tell me your favourite and least favourite parts of these games. I’d be interested to hear!

There's a few things wrong with these people one of them is is he the new car and they want to make it a fly car they want the kit because it's the fast one and they're waiting for it and we did release it at 3:30 p.m. so would not be the same as the tide and all this other crap until a few people anytime and they come down a little we did release it and we're getting orders in the trillions okay trillions and you want to see if it works no they don't care they're ordering it the whole kit almost every single one of them gets the big motor the full conversion and the interior it it's all the leadership that's left what's this thing and they're going to take the design they're going to turn into a fly car and go 80,000 miles an hour.. we are including the specs and location in your dash for the forward looking ass looking and other radar before looking as powerful and it's necessary if you're driving. And people want to use it flying so and a lot of people

What a pile of wimps it's incredible and he's doing this stuff he tells him what to do and then go ahead and do it and it's working and the hard knock is working and he said we got to make a ton of factories so we're calling on our people again we have a lot of factories going up but it's not enough this is a massive movement almost anyone can ride these motorcycles and the cruisers are superb it's a Honda rebel it sounds better and is more speed a little bit and handles a little bit better believe it or not and has better parts but it looks a lot cheaper but it's not well actually it doesn't look cheaper but it is cheaper much cheaper we need personal to volunteer for this to Captain factories or factory areas or assembly plants and those are like co-ops you have people that are on swing shifts some people work one day a week doing a certain task like John Hartman I'm sorry James Hartman but it looks like he's almost John Hartman and Junior and he does come in and he tabulates things and he organizes things he was on the factory and does recalibration and then he leaves after 4 hours and comes back next week at different day and he likes doing it there's a lot of people like him there's people that like to sweep the place up like Garth he does some other jobs and oils and greases and maintains the machinery and a son and daughter say they can put up with it but they can't put up with what they're doing now and it makes him feel worth stuff because they are when they're doing it he wants to sign up and he's directed it him to me and I assign someone to him and he said this is good it's working and also he wants to sign up for the stealth car this is not with Brad it is laughing they have worked on stuff and it's kind of funny cuz they're both suck at it when they're together and he goes not with him and he says you don't have to but it's funny so he's going to do it and Shaquille O'Neal says he wants him to set up something out there in Madagascar and he's going to go ahead and do it but he's got tons of stuff going on that he's already ordered like 10 trillion kits or something. We sold so many kids it's ridiculous I don't think we've ever sold that many anything but as our son and daughter say it doesn't take any time to make them for the most part it comes in a box it's about 8 ft long and 2x2 and UPS is going to be full of them it looks like a weight lifting gym but that's to move the motor to a century position and to reinforce frames. Most of them are for the charger and the sun was right the challenge of people want to hold out and they probably won't it's going to be a little faster that particular car so we're going to publish

not my first non-queued post being me bitching jdjdjdndjdjd

so i actually brought this up on twitter, but i need to rant about it more because people make me SICK:

so, essentially, i am very.... childish, i guess, about how i feel towards the fandom's overall handling of Izuku’s character. i know that it's not case, but i still get the impression that i can't expect anyone other than izuku stans specifically to actually value his character (not only as it is in canon, but also in their fanon depictions as well), and that point that I referenced in the tweet (i can't find op and I'm also not trying to argue dudhdjdjd) just makes it worse.

this idea that it's, in some way, wrong or weird or bad to depict shouto (one of izuku's best friends) being upset/angry about his friend being mistreated is just?????? so odd to me? like, when you consider just a few pieces of sho and izu's dynamic, you have:

izuku meeting endeavor for the first time (before izu and sho could even be called friends) and telling him that his son is his own person, not endeavor's toy to manipulate and live through

izuku literally tearing his bones TO PIECES during his sports festival fight with sho, just to relay a fucking message (it was an important, very valuable message, but still)

izuku, recently, using his black whip quirk through his fucking mouth to try and save shouto from touya when his limbs were too busted for him to move otherwise

like, i know i whoop and holler about Todoroki "Ride-Or-Die" Shouto all the time, but izuku will pull up for sho just as much, and has done so multiple times in the series. so, with that being said: what is weird about having shouto hate bakugou for the abuse he put izuku through for all those years??? why is that not a conceivable idea? what is so wrong about someone actually giving a fuck about izuku enough to be angry on his behalf (again, especially when izuku's done the same for that person)????

like, i also don't understand the attraction anyone feels for shouto and bakugou's friendship (it makes no sense to me, honestly), but even if that's a part of it, no one can dispute how much izuku means to shouto. i cannot fathom a scenario where shouto finds out about the severity of bakugou's actions and doesn't get pissed off, at least, because izuku is his friend. canon has done a superb job building things up for us to have that understanding.

BUT, again, i want to touch back on that point i made about izuku stans being the only ones who really value izuku (which again, is a generalization that i don't mean as an absolute): points like this ("it's goofy/weird/what-the-fuck-ever that people making shouto hate bakugou for what he did to izuku"), feel like they come from people just really not caring about izu. like, why wouldn't you want that for him? what's so good about bakugou, or dismissible about his actions, or bad about izuku, that you come to this conclusion???? izuku can support and love everyone faves, but imagining those other characters giving just a fucking crumb of that energy back to him is just not possible, right?????
