Halloween Fic Recs 2023 Week 5: Old Favorites

Welcome to the last week of Halloween fic recs! This week the stories are some of my favorites from previous years' lists.

(I'm not on tumblr a lot- so I'm not sure when you tagged me- sorry!! <3) last song: Before I listened to some lofi playlists, the last song was: Ghost - Mary On A Cross. Such a good song! I guess I imagined it with Natasha as a mama spider :> last show: Pantheon, I watched it on AMC with my dad. It was really good! Kinda a modern sci fi show! (I'm pretty sure they were making it and it was slowed down my the pandemic by how it mentioned that in the middle of the series). currently watching: I keep pausing on the Daredevil series, I know I should've watched it a while ago but Elektra makes me so angry! I can't stand her and how she gaslights and lies all the time. It stresses me out lol! And I want to cry everytime Foggy gets hurt aaaa. (Idk, personally I can headcannon Foggy as neurodivergent but I would need to research him more). favorite color: Light blue, like the sky kinda! sweet, spicy, or savory: Sweet! But savory comes to a close second. (I can't stand spicy because my brain makes me think I'm eating something spicy when I eat stuff I'm allergic to. So to me: Spicy - I'm going to die :>) currently reading: I have a list of all the Rare pair bingo that I need to go through (As well as other fics my friends have made). But I haven't been able to read anything recently </3 what i'm working on: Lots of WIPs haha... 10,996 words worth of wips that I need to finish... The one I'm trying to focus on is a Bruce and Peter one for the rare pair! (Then a Winter soldier au). At midnight, C arrives. They couldn’t afford a room so can they just bunk up with A? Oops now there’s three of us we can make this work right oh god there’s no room but no one wants to sleep on the floor this hotel is really gross

Bonus for OT+: People just keep showing up needing a bed and it gets progressively more ridiculous. The cuddle pile is nice but also someone’s foot is in my ear and someone else is snoring really loudly.

Then the bed breaks and A has to awkwardly pay for the damage… whilst everyone else tries to sneak out undetected so it doesn’t look super obvious that 3+ people all slept in A’s tiny room.

for the longest time it’s been cecelia ahern! i’ve met her a bunch of times and she’s so lovely and i just love so many of her books. i also met malorie blackman and she is the sweetest and made me cry. i’ve loved her books since i was 11 so she means so much to me. i love becky albertalli who is also a very kind and lovely person but also has many books i enjoy! i love matt haig, who writes incredible stuff on mental health and karen m. mcmanus too who can write an incredible mystery novel :-)

First fic: To Be Alone (With You) A sweet little Bruce/Tony fic where Bruce is living a life of solitude and Tony is trying to convince him to come back to New York. I genuinely think this is a sweet little fic and one I go back to every so often.

Last fic: The Slightest Touch My slightly got out of hand kinktober fic. God, I am so close to finishing this. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but this has been the main focus of the creative part of my brain for a year now. However, I will always be insanely proud of it and I love it with all my heart.

Only once: I don't really have one! Only one that is more based on the Marvel comics than the movies, but that barely counts. I stick with my hyperfixations by and large.

Favorite fic from the fandom I've written in most: Make Love Your Goal, a very sweet hurt/comfort Bruce/Thor fic, where Bruce is a having a really, really shitty day and Thor's solution is to take him to another planet for a beach holiday.

Fic I wish more people read: I will keep shouting about Who Wants To Know? because it may be one of the best things I've ever written. I also adore Talons, a Pacific Rim fic where Hermann gets possessed by the Precursors in order for them to reopen the Breach.

Fic I agonized over: Ohhh last year's Big Bang, It's Not Hard To Fall, was hard. It took a lot of rewrites and agonizing over tone. At one point I nearly abandoned the whole thing. I'm still not completely happy with it, but I'm still super proud of it (and c'mon, if you like whump, I've dished it out in spades.)

Fic that sprang fully formed: Probably the short and silly ones, like Before Ed There Was Viago, Snede Snonnet Snirate Snaptain and A Taste of Home. They're usually written in one sitting and I write them because they make me laugh, which is the best reason.

Work(s) I'm proud of: All of them. Seriously. I write the stories I want to read, and so I am not ashamed to say I will go back and re-read my fics (after a lot of breathing space, mind). Some ofthem I will go back and say 'oh yeah, I did not properly explore the space' and others I will go back and say 'shit, that is everything I want in a fic'. The only problem is when they're WIPs and I have to nudge myself to write more.
