Anyway, Let’s talk about 4x05 specifically, Ricky’s line “Last summer, I was terrified, when I realized i had real feelings for gina.”

Because maybe this will put the pw/rini fans down and help them accept that rina is and was supposed to be endgame no matter what happened with liv and josh. Also, I’ve literally never seen anyone talk about this and maybe i’m just exaggerating lmao.

I think Ricky could have just as easily said something along the lines of “when i realized i had feelings/ when i realized i developed real feelings for gina” but he didn’t. Because he knew he liked Gina from the moment she kissed his cheek in that orange bug after homecoming, we’ve seen them flirt and we’ve seen him shoot a shot several episodes after that and I don’t know about you but i don’t give a spin hug to my friends. He stopped pursuing Nini as soon as gina came into the picture and that’s a fact, they didn’t bring the rickyxnini couple storyline back until after Gina moved, he didn’t actively pursue nini until Gina told him to stop calling and even then he kept texting her and we see him distracted throughout the next episode, the almost kiss didn’t happen until after Gina had replied and told him they were leaving early, only once he knew gina was completely out of the picture, did he go back to nini. He said it himself, he reverted back to his old self because he didn’t have gina in his life anymore and when gina told him she wouldn’t quit on them if she wasn’t moving away he genuinely looked upset about it as well. In episode 1 of season 2 at Ashlyn’s new years even party, that boy did a Triple Take when gina went to get a root-beer, the feelings were still there, they were just buried because he didn’t think he would see Gina again when he made his confession to Nini so he held on to what he used to know and who he used to be, because we all know that ricky bowen is not good with change. Now, in episode three of the season, the iconic valentines episode, The way he looks at her, the way his voice softens while talking to her, his line “I think you’ll get yours too.” After gina told him that every girl likes a sweet gesture, THE NEXT SCENE BEING THE CHOCOLATES, the fact that ricky got messages from nini and gina only seconds apart but he only looked onto his face once gina’s message came on, all of these things hint towards ricky’s feelings, even in 2x04 when Nini came to surprise the group in the bomb shelter, Ricky and Gina looked like they just got caught cheating even though all they did was talk and laugh. Last point, Episode five and six, He was in awe of gina when she was dancing (gina porter effect) and only went to gina for advice on nini because she had helped him the previous two times when he hadn’t even actually asked for advice in 2x04 and 2x03, The boy probably thought she was trying to get over him. In the next episode even though she had already tried to break off contact with him, he still asked to partner up with her and smiled at her when she looked at him while saying she doesn’t know what her heart desires. Even during Ashlyn’s retention of home we see ricky look at gina when he comes back in. RICHARD BOWEN HAS ALWAYS HAD FEELINGS FOR GINA PORTER, THE SEASON 3 PLOT LINE WAS NOT RANDOM OR CAME OUT OF NOWHERE. Ricky just finally realized what he could’ve had if gina didn’t move away once he lost it. RINA WAS ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN AND BE ENDGAME. THEY DIDNT COME OUT OF NOWHERE OR ONLY HAPPENED BECAUSE OLIVIA LEFT. Because, fact-check Season 2 was filmed before the drivers-license drama, they did not break them up because things between liv and josh got tense. Your ship was not supposed to be endgame.

uhhh quite sad but: i think he's depressed and has a lot of unresolved trauma. there's literally a motif in the soundtrack called 'Lancelot Leaves' - he never stays, even when he finds something good and has people who will fight for him. it probably has something to do with the way his entire village was destroyed and his family killed when he was young. he doesn't want to become too attached in case everything is taken away from him again, but he wears his heart on his sleeve and is incapable of repressing completely and shutting himself off from others, so fleeing is the only defence he has. knowing him, there's probably also a sense of survivor's guilt which has morphed into "it's my fault that they died; i couldn't protect them." the guy dedicated "every waking moment since that day" to the art of combat, which is of course a healthy response. he dreamed solely of becoming a knight of camelot and yet even when arthur was fighting for him to stay, he left. because he lied, he felt unworthy of the knighthood, but i also think he's scared of having a home in case he loses it again, and perhaps feels that tragedy follows him. maybe he'd rather be miserable fighting others for the entertainment of bloodthirsty assholes than achieving his dream, because it validates the misery which lingers inside of him. it's emotional self-harm, basically. speaking of which: i think he, honestly, wants to find a way to die honourably. that is the perfect way out for him: he doesn't have to cope anymore, but he's not just giving up. i mean, the guy does borderline suicidal shit every episode he features in.

1x05: charging solo at a creature which took out an entire group of knights and is said to only be killable through magical means.

2x04: sacrificing himself so gwen can escape, knowing that he will be caught eventually and put to death by a bloodthirsty crowd.

3x13: going into a castle occupied by immortal soldiers, unaware that merlin has a means to kill them.

4x01: setting out on a mission against another unkillable foe (the dorocha).

4x02: actually sacrificing himself to the callieach.

to be fair, all the knights risk their lives constantly; it's in the job description. but it still feels particularly pronounced with him. this theory is contradicted by the line from 4x02, "I look at you and I wonder about myself. Would I knowingly give up my life for something?" but tbh i still feel that lancelot was always going to die, as much as i hate to say it. staying alive is ooc for him.

definitely when he said "it's lancin' time" and lanced all over and killed kilgharrah and deprogrammed merlin so he was a normal person again and convinced him to give mordred a chance and everything turned out fine.

okay, being serious: literally every single lancelot moment has a special place in my heart. the scene where merlin collapses and lance immediately runs to help him is SO adorable and so in character i LOVE it. his sheer wonderment when the vilia show themselves; he's such a sweetheart. he really just takes everything in stride and truly accepts magic unconditionally. also the moment where gwaine takes a bite out of an apple while the knights are sneaking around and lancelot shakes his head in exasperation. gwaincelot crumbs!! i have my head tipped back ninety degrees to retrieve them from the very base of the metaphorical crisp packet. he's just too damn sweet. i love him so much ;-;

i absolutely despise 4x09 but he's soooo sexy in that episode. when he rises from the fucking lake naked and dripping with water??? i didn't react in any way i really didn't

The Summer I Turned Pretty 2x04 - “Love Game”

Honestly watching one episode per week is not ideal at all. It’s even worse when no promo is done for the following episode. This series deserve to be binge-watched!

Overall, the episode was good, but too short. 

Again, how can Belly even leave Jeremiah for Conrad, he is the perfect boyfriend, the perfect guy. All sweet and all. Always thinking about Belly, being there for her. (I loved the flashback they had).

Even if it’s so wrong to compare two brothers between them and having romantic feelings about them. So messed up.

But the way Belly and Jeremiah are looking at each other, the way they hold their hands together. I’m dying to know more.

They should have definitely casted younger actors to play their young self, because it’s honestly not believable at all. 

Taylor is the perfect best girlfriend someone can have. 

And I’m furious that they have canceled Nicole, Shayla, Gigi, Marisa and add someone as bad as Skye who isn’t interesting at all, just to add a LGBTQ+ character, just to show off how well they did, but instead cancelling two persons of colours, well done. Pathetic!  

Oh and this house problem just doesn’t make sense, Jeremiah and Conrad should have inherited from their mother directly!  And a real estate agency will never move out the furniture of a house they want to sell. They are staging house to fill the warm of the space they are trying to sell. So the last scene was completely not believable either. 

Again, none of them have been to therapy which doesn’t make sense at all. 

The playlist was crazy again. We even had “Side to Side” by Ariana Grande. Jeremiah’s the favourite singer. And when Belly and Jeremiah are on the Tower of Terror “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’Roses was playing behind. There was “Cola” by CamelPhat & Elderbrook and the last song was “Go Home” by Angel Olsen.

It’s not that I don’t think TK cares for Carlos or shows he cares, not at all. But I’d like a role reversal of the scene from 4x16, where Carlos is upset or panicking or needs calming down and TK calms him down. I want to see his abilities of levelling him out and bringing him down from the ledge, comforting him and consoling him. Partly because I want to see Carlos lose it, he’s so composed and even with Trudy he was relatively put together, and after he so politely became stoic again putting on the front we all know and love, and I want to see him get upset or anxious and panicky where he can’t pull the mask down. But I’d also love to see TK in his best, most caring self, where he gets all romantic and whispers sweet nothings and is so composed. We definitely don’t get enough of both of those!

We have seen that though, haven't we? In 2x04 when he tells TK about his strained relationship with is parents, 2x12 after the fire, in 4x01 when he was so visibly relieved TK still wanted to marry him even though he messed up, in 4x12 when he comes home halfway expecting TK to say that not having kids is a deal breaker and TK is making him a fancy dinner instead. We've never heard TK use the word soulmates specifically but he got pretty damn close in the proposal scene. "For the first time in my life the love that I feel is more powerful than the risk of losing it." Idk, I see what you're saying but I feel like we've seen a lot of TK being sweet and romantic and comforting Carlos.

So the reports from my cousin are: she went to my moms house and asked how my brother was doing and my mom didn’t waste a single second. She went right into it saying that “he’s watching some tv show his sister showed him and now I have to suffer because of that’ My dad apparently was not having it because my brother tried to call him= no luck, so then he texted him AND emailed him and all that it said was ‘did you ever build a swing set like a father is supposed to?’ The answer is no and he is confused where this came from. He also agrees that the doctor is clearly giving him too strong pain meds bc this is not normal behavior (narrator: unfortunately it is bc my brother while he has his smart moments, his one brain cell is fighting for 3rd place most of the time and they also both know this but i guess distance makes the heart grow stronger since we are plane rides away). That was about it except that my mother did decide to share that my brother annoyed her so much that she decided to look up the show, so that she could threaten him with spoilers if he doesn’t leave her alone. However she only remembered the word ‘queer’ at which she said to my cousin ‘i don’t get it, it’s just makeovers? Where did he get a Brian from?’ (She accidentally looked up queer eye and gave up) this is when my dad yelled out ‘I TOLD YOU ITS DRUGS! And the fact that he was dropped as a baby once by your mother’

So that’s about what it is from the family. I do unfortunately have to go take care of the moron now BUT i will send reports tomorrow from 2x03 and 2x04 and if he decides to watch any other major moments that we as a fandom care about. And i hope your meetings went okay and that at least the idiot that is my brother put you in a good mood :)

I know people are worried about what Tyler said about Malex being friends meaning they're only friends in s3 but I just had to laugh at his pointed 'That's something they never had before' after Carina worked so hard to sell s2 as the Malex foundation building and friendship season. We're 1000% getting romantic Malex this season but also the first half is going to be an accelerated version of what s2 should have been for them and there's so much potential there with a showrunner who actually sounds like an actual Malex shipper.

I'm worried because I'm a worried, pessimistic person by nature, but hey I'm either always right or pleasantly surprised! But overall I'm not super worried about Malex. Tyler and Vlamis were really excited (compared to their energy in that panel after 2x06? it was a WORLD of difference) and I feel they were keeping their answers to the first episode or so of the season. Plus, they confirmed that we were getting actual friendship (Tyler is a petty, sassy bench and I LOVE him), and I'm hoping that means some flirting and heart eyes and longing looks and them supporting each other. I get people having a knee-jerk negative reaction because we have all been BURNED by this show before and many shows before this, but I'm still excited to see what's coming up for Malex this season. Also, Chris mentioning the song and saying the f*rlex kiss broke his heart? We stan!

The phone rang, your arm stretched over the pile of dishes on the counter. “Hello ?” you answered, putting it on speaker and setting it back down.

Eddie’s voice rang through the speaker, echoing through the empty apartment. “Hey, can you do me a huge favour ?”

“If you're gonna ask me to bake a cake, I have literally no time, honey. I’m really sorry but I need to finish this order-” Eddie sounds like he cut himself off before saying something as you explain that you’re busy.

“Eds? Are you there ?”

“Yeah- yeah, I'm here.”

“What’s up?”

“You’re busy, I don’t want to bother you.”

You can’t help but roll your eyes because no matter how busy you are, you always made time for Eddie. He sighs heavily, so much so that you can hear him thinking.

“Eddie, what is it ?”

“Can you pick Chris up from school ? I know you’re busy but if you can’t, that’s ok-” “of course I can pick him up!”

The sound of a breath being released before a feminine voice called out for him. “I gotta go, Abuela needs me but he’s off at 3. Thank you, y/n - really.”

“You don’t have to thank me, Eddie.”

He mumbles something before hanging up. You glance at the phone screen - 2:24. You had enough time to change and shove the dishes in the dishwasher before having to head out so you did just that.

You had picked up Christopher from school a million times. His teachers knew you well enough that Eddie no longer had to call and let them know he wouldn't be picking up Chris but that you would be.

Standing outside of the school, the PTA parents were gossiping within their little bubbles, talking about the other members behind their backs but smiling in their faces. You bit back a smile before walking towards the gate. The students were lined up by the door, waiting for the bell to ring.

The moment it does, the students come running out with their teacher a few feet behind them in an attempt to keep up with them. One by one, their teacher lets them out, Christopher finally spotting you and this teacher waves hello as they open the gate for him.

“Y/n! What are you doing here!?” his little face lights up with a smile.

“Your dad asked me to come get you, he's with abuela.”

The two of you start making your way back to the car when Christopher asks you what his plans for the afternoon were. Soon you realized that Eddie didn’t give you any explanation as to where to go or what to do after you picked up Chris.

“How does ice cream and then abuela’s sound ?”

“Can we take some for her and dad too?” Chris asks as you help him into the car.

“Of course we can.”

Christopher was lugging his backpack over his shoulder when you knocked on the door, two containers of ice cream in hand. Eddie opens the door, grinning at his son whose face matches his father’s.

“Hey kiddo” Eddie kneels, wrapping the boy in his arms. Christopher’s arms extend around his father, “hi dad, we bought ice cream” he points out the obvious.

Eddie glances up at you, the ice cream tucked under your arm - he flashes you a smile.

“Oh yeah?” he lets go of Chris. “Did you have any?”

“No,” he shakes his head, his hair flopping around as he snickers. Eddie pushes the hair from Christopher’s forehead. “So what’s this on your face?” swiping his finger on Chris’s chin, a little smudge of brown on his finger from the leftover ice cream.

“Paint.” Chris smiles at his father sweetly.

“Uh huh, paint.” he chuckles, stepping aside for Chris to come further into the house.

“Thanks for picking him up,” he leans on the door frame, stretching and his arms lift above his head as he does. You can’t help but glance down at the area of exposed skin - eyes glued to the man in front of you.

“Y/n?” Eddie’s waving his hands in front of you, eyes raising from their previous spot to his face - the blush was creeping up on your face whilst that stupid smug smile of his was on his.

“Would you like to come in?”

“Oh, I don’t want to intrude.”

“You won’t be.”

“Are you sure?”

“Positive.”

Stepping in, you take in the house. You had been by Isabel’s once or twice before but you had never come inside the house. The walls were painted a warm yellow colour, the furniture was spotless as was the rest of the house. Isabel sat on the couch with Chris beside her as he told her about his day at school.

“Chris, did you wash your hands?” Eddie calls, the door shutting. Chris doesn't answer which is an answer in itself. “Go now, please.” Eddie’s voice sounds closer, glancing behind you to see him beside you.

Chris grumbles but gets up, Isabel turns her attention to you and Eddie. “How are you feeling ?”

“As well as someone can with a broken hip” she gives you a smile.

“I’m glad you’re okay, you gave Eddie a scare” giving him a playful shove. “We got ice cream, vanilla and toffee. Chris said toffee was your favourite” handing her the small container. “It is, thank you. That’s so sweet of you.” she smiles, pulling the top off.

“No need to thank me, it was Christopher’s idea.”

“Ah, well I'll thank him when he comes back out.” she says smiling, “Eddie, a spoon please ?” she glances at the man beside you. He hums, stepping away for a moment to get her a spoon.

Chris comes running back in after washing his hands. “Dad! Can we stay over? Abuela said it was okay” he’s beside his father now, looking up at him with his big brown eyes that were practically begging him to let him.

You, Eddie and Isabel all knew that Christopher had his father wrapped around his finger and would ultimately get his way but Eddie had to give him a fatherly response and say no, they should go home. Isabel doesn't usually butt in but this time she did.

“Mijo, stay. I could use the company.” She says, patting the spot beside her and Chris makes his way over to sit beside her.

Eddie sighs, if he had a soft spot, it was for the two people on the couch. “Fine, just tonight then.”

Isabel smiles, satisfied with his answer. “y/n, stay for dinner darling. Eddie’s cooking” “Yea- who said I was cooking?” Eddie butts in, shocked at the assumption. “I did, mijo. Don’t worry, I'll tell you what to do.”

“Buddy, why don’t you finish up your homework so you can relax for the rest of the night ?” Eddie calls out to Chris, who again groans. He loved school but despised homework - as did most kids.

“I have math, I need help so I can’t do it because you’re busy.” Chris says plainly, thinking his statement will get him out of his math work because Eddie can’t do math for shit.

“I can help.”

“Y/n, you don't have to-” “no, it’s fine. C’mon kiddo” Chris grumbles, making his way to the dining room table, the two of you taking a seat when Eddie helps Isabel up and to the kitchen.

You can hear them talking and her telling Eddie to cut things a certain way or not to put too much of something into the pot. It only took 20 minutes for Christopher to finish his math homework, he brought it into the kitchen to show his dad.

“Look! I’m done! Math’s easy when you understand it.” that last bit was a little dig at Eddie and his math skills. You ruffled Chris’s hair as he walked back into the living room.

“Did he just-” Eddie watches his son make his way to the couch.

You hold back a laugh,“Mhm hm” Eddie shakes his head, chuckling. “Here, taste this.” he picks up some sauce from the pot, holding the spoon over his hand before handing it to Isabel.

Her face twists when she tastes it, “Eddie, I love you honey, but that’s terrible.” you press your lips together, holding back a chuckle.

“What?” he pouts, sighing. “I swear it tasted fine ten minutes ago.” sitting beside Isabel in defeat.

You pick up another spoon and taste some for yourself, your expression matching Isabel’s from moments ago. Eddie had remembered to put everything in, except the paprika and the salt, you add a bit of both and stir the pot. Taking the spoon from Eddie, you pick up a bit of the sauce and hand it back to Isabel.

“Ah, that’s better.” she hums, making you smile as she hands you back the spoon. Eddie sighs, letting you know that he was still there.

"Why don’t you go see if Christopher wants to watch something or if he wants a snack ?” his grandmother nudged him, a signal for him to leave the kitchen. “y/n can take over for you”

“Abuela, you can’t invite them in and have them work for their dinner.” he says, making her laugh.

“It’s okay Eds,” waving him off. “I don’t mind, really.”

Eddie left the kitchen and made his way over to the couch, listening as Chris told him about his day. He glanced back to see if everything was alright but he noticed that the two of you were laughing as you told Isabel something. Eddie would be lying if his heart didn’t skip a beat.

He stopped seeking his parents’ approval of who he dated- for a matter of fact, it went out the window when he brought Shannon home the first time but seeing you with an abuela made him so warm and happy, he couldn't help but smile.

Eddie’s hand slipped onto your hip, his chest against your back. “Can I help you, Eddie?” you mumble, your eyes on the dishes in front of you.

He hums, hands coming around and arms now wrapped around your waist. Eddie felt your wet hands pull his hands off of you, “Isabel and Chris are in the other room, stop it”

His head tilted, that innocent look on his face, “stop what?”

“Eddie,” turning to face him, “shh I don’t want to hear it” he cuts you off, hands back on your waist.

“I don’t think I've ever loved someone the way I love you.” His words come off so sweet and loving but hit you like a ton of bricks.

You loved Eddie, more than anything but you had never actually told him nor did you ever feel the need too. It was always implied that as friends, you loved and cared about each other.

Eddie always knew he loved you, there was never any question about that but something about you, seeing you with an abuela and how great you were with Christopher (as you always were) just pushed him over the edge.

He had to tell you.

“Y/n, you know I love you- and before you say anything, I know I’ve never actually said it to you but I didn’t feel like I had too, you knew I did.”

“I know.”

“Yeah.”

You were still gathering your thoughts, trying to come up with the words to tell him you loved him too but Eddie’s expression changed. His brows furrowed, eyes studying your face - the worry had set in.

What if you didn’t feel the same way ? God, he’d feel so stupid if he embarrassed himself like that.

The years of friendship were enough for you to realize how he was feeling. You were lacking words and you know what they say, actions speak louder than words.

Your hands reach for his face, now cupping his cheeks. Your lips meet his, he pulls you closer to him- if that's even possible. It was a few moments before you pulled away.

Eddie smiles lovingly at you and you’re sure you have the same expression plastered on your face. “Um- I think that says it.” you hum, smiling at him.

“Doesn't mean you can't say it,” he pokes fun at you, making you roll your eyes playfully.

“Eddie?”

“Y/n,”

“I love you.”

My recs:

Do-Over by Mari_Marie a 2x04 canon divergence where Carlos & TK are in a car accident on the way home from the farmer’s market. TK wakes up and thinks they broke up. Heartbreaking, but also an interesting look at how things could have gone just slightly different.

Giving up Ground by @dancer-me I am obsessed with this one. Obsessed!!! This is actually part two in a three-part series, but each fic stands alone (and part three is a wip). The premise of the first fic is that 126 & 118 are reunited at a first responders convention in LA, and TK & Buck form a bond. The second fic follows Carlos, TK & the 126 as they respond to a series of incidents in a rain storm culminating in a massive multi-vehicle pileup where TK finds himself in on the recipient end of some road rage. The 118, meanwhile, respond to an incident on a bridge. The action is all very exciting, I promise you won’t be able to put it down. And there are some sweet Tarlos moments. If you are like me and do not ship Buddie (*hides*) you can skip over all the Buddie stuff pretty easily and not miss out on any of the action. You can also probably just read the 126 chapters and still have a really enjoyable, exiting read!

in uncertain terms by @iinryer the Marjan Manifesto!!! This one is soooooo good y’all!! I must warn you, it is a wip. But honestly that doesn’t take away from how amazing this fic is! Every update is a delight. Premise is, after breaking up with Salim, Marjan gets injured and has a lot of time to think and do some self-examination that she didn’t really have the need or luxury of doing before.

The Mystery of Michael’s Missing Spiral

I know the first rule of season 2 is we don’t talk about season 2 anymore, but this has been in my drafts for nearly 9 months and @lovecolibri expressed a passing interest, which was all the provocation I needed to push this out into the world. Behold - my saltmine post about what tf was Michael’s character arc in s2.

During pre-season 2 promos we were told a lot that Michael would be “spiralling”. There were reports of “misdirecting his anger”

What we saw was Michael picking bar fights, random women and getting drunk in 2x01. Was that it? 

content warnings: I view his relationship with Maria as symptom of the problem, so the following will not be a nice read for Miluca shippers. Also there’s a lot of salt ahead. Let me know if I should add any other tags and warnings.

“Spiralling” implies getting lower and lower within the same vicious circle; falling on a curving path; getting quickly worse in a way that becomes increasingly diffcult to control. A short burst of bad behaviour, a quick touchdown to the bottom if you will, would more correctly be reffered to as “acting out”. A week of drinking and fighting does not a spiral make.

Yet it’s indisputable that after a week this behavior ends - Michael cleans up his act to start helping with getting Max back and to be good for Maria. So where are the lower rungs of the spiral?

“Misdirected anger” is even more elusive. Could it allude to Michael simply punching some guy in Wild Pony who did nothing to deserve it? That’s just a tiny transference to let off some steam out of the pressure cooker that is Michael’s emotions at the beginning of season 2. 

Yet after 2x01 Michael doesn’t throw any undeserved punches (Wyatt fully deserved what he got), he’s also rather kind and sweet to people around him without letting his negative emotions affect how he relates to them... except for Alex. 

Alex is the only person Michael is consistently mean to in pretty much every episode they interact. And I mean mean, as in maliciously negative. Even apart from every “breaking up” scene, he makes sure to invalidate their entire relationship as just sex and pain (’tortured lust’), Alex’s importance to him (making clear he was his last choice in 2x04) and even disparaging his character (calling one of his enduring qualities that he used to love ‘just stupid now’).

Michael endured unimaginable trauma heaped upon unimaginable trauma at the end of season 1. And while he acts out in 2x01, a week later he has miraculously compartmentalized and packed it away neatly to be the Perfect Boyfriend and a Good Brother. It’s as if his trauma doesn’t exist or affect him when he’s with anyone other than Alex with whom he’s able to let his emotions out - but also to start processing them when he calls to talk about Walt in 2x09. 

In season 2 he also completely abandons what drove him in the previous two decades - the search for his home and pursuit of knowledge about himself as an alien. Not only does he stop trying to build his spaceship (framed as sacrificing that dream for brining Max back with the use of the genius alien pacemaker), he doesn’t use and train his powers at all the entire season (until 2x11). In season 1 he was the one using his powers most frequently, he had great control and clearly practiced. In season 2, just as Isobel is training her powers, Michael tries to cut himself off from his alien heritage. He’s the only member of the pod squad missing from the training Rosa scene, while theoretically, as the most practiced, he could be the best qualified to help.

And so I present to you my diagnosis:

“misdirecting anger” was Michael bundling up all the pain from everything that happened at the end of season 1 with all the pain connected to his relationship with Alex, channeling it all into anger. Unlike pain, grief, sadness, regret, guilt and shame - anger feels proactive and can be directed outwards. We’ve seen bb!Michael use it to (mis)manage his emotions at bb!Max before, it’s his established crutch and coping mechanism. And in season 2 he directed all of that negativity-turned-anger onto the person who was both connected to all the pain and safe to project onto, i.e. Alex.

 Michael “spiralling” was him denying his wants and needs, hiding his depression, pain and trauma in order to be the Perfect Boyfriend and Good Brother just so that for once he wouldn’t be left behind and could avoid actually processing what happened to him. Hitting the bottom of the spiral was the moment Maria broke up with him, finally driving the point home that this isn’t sustainable.

Or, Michael acting so OOC in season 2 could just be the result of bad writing, twisting his character to hit plot points regardless of his established character traits and motivation or writers (or the Writer Formerly Known as the Showrunner) just intermittently forgetting he ever endured any trauma at all. But Michael’s character arc in season 3 reinforces my interpretation of season 2 as spiralling through repression instead of processing his trauma and completely mismanaging his emotions. After all, it was set up in season 1 that to heal he would have to reopen wounds in his mind... and we saw him doing that in season 3. And what a glorious sight a happy, settled and confident Michael Guerin, facing his fears and doubts head on instead of channeling them into anger and connecting with his alien heritage even if it’s painful, truly is. Eventually, TK drags his thumb over the back of Carlos’ hand. It could have been minutes, hours, he doesn’t know. But when Carlos quietly asks him to stay, his only response is this: to kiss his forehead, to squeeze their fingers tight, and silently promise to never let go. (Or, two mornings together. He wakes up earlier than he wants to.

There's a pleasant ache through his body, sunlight hitting him square in the face as he tries to re-orient himself. TK's gotten used to spending the night with Carlos—with his parents oftentimes existing in their own little world, it felt like the natural progression in their relationship. He's got a drawer and a key, and the left side of the bed is his, and it still makes his heart race a little to think that he gets to have this.

But there is one thing that they're slightly incompatible on.

Case in point: this morning.

They'd gotten in late. By the time they'd left the roller-derby rink after Marjan introduced them to her fiancé—something all of them had trouble wrapping their minds around initially—and hung out with the three of them for a little bit, it'd been well after midnight when they finally got home. And yet, for whatever reason, his boyfriend is up and moving, not even needing an alarm to rise just after the sun comes up.

"Ty," he hears, that husky, warm, honeyed morning voice he loves so much breaking through his attempt to fall back asleep. There's a gentle hand through his hair, and then another quiet, "hey, Ty."

"Ugh," TK replies, burrowing his face deeper in the pillow while Carlos huffs a little laugh above him.

"Come on, it's almost nine," Carlos says, and TK cracks one eye open, hopefully levelling him with a worthy glare.

"You say that like I'm ready to get up anytime before noon," TK mutters, sticking one arm under the pillow in an attempt to get comfortable once more.

He can hear the smile in Carlos' voice when he teases, "aw, poor baby."

There's a silent pause before TK flops onto his back.

"You know, you're the reason I'm exhausted," TK mutters, though he could never complain about it, hazy memories of their heated kisses once they got home from watching Marjan's game encouraging warmth to pool low in his belly. He slowly blinks his eyes open more, taking in Carlos' half-dressed state and the smug smile he couldn't hide if he tried, looking him up and down appreciatively. "If you loved me you'd let me sleep in."
