My favorite thing about the new Leverage: Redemption s2 trailer is the way they're trying to hide how very muscular and in shape Aldis Hodge is right now (probably because of his role in Black Adam).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thick coats and lots of scarves.
They're basically doing the cis male version of hiding the actor's pregnancy belly.
And. I mean is it working? Nah. Hardison just looks like a superhero. But then again Hardison looks like a superhero, where's the bad side in that?

You know, it's a very tiny thing but I loved that moment where Parker being the Mastermind for the past few years shone through in this episode. Specifically during that moment where Parker was actually guiding not only Harry's 'bromance honeypot con' but for a moment cautioned Sophie that their mark was testing her. Like, this was such a FAMILIAR thing, only years ago it was Sophie that would have chimed in with that kind of observation. IDK I just thought it was neat.

I think people can stop freaking out about the mere possibility of Sophie and Harry developing a romance.
I know that half the fandom is very excited about the possibility while the other half seems to be ready to pick up swords at the mere mention. But. If it happens it’s not going to happen in season 2.
It took Sophie and Nate to the end of s3 for their drunk hookup and they were romantically coded straight out of the gate from the very first episode. Sophie right now though? She was grieving Nate for the entirety of season 1 and that’s not going to vanish now that she’s started (STARTED) to move on with her life. The writers of Leverage have always developed their relationships at a very realistic pace.
She’s not going to jump into bed with Harry any time soon. And that’s if they actually decide to move in a romantic direction with them at all. Which isn’t even a guarantee because so far what is being developed is a very beautiful friendship. Though to be clear, I wouldn’t mind that slowly changing (I do see the spark of... possibility) as long as it is written with the proper respect to Sophie as a character. Which so far? They are doing BEAUTIFULLY.
My point here is this. The writers KNOW that a large part of the Leverage fandom isn’t quite ready to see Sophie move past Nate. So it’s honestly too early to worry about it (and maybe two or three seasons from now once more people have had more time to get to know and like Our Mr. Wilson, and the friendship between Sophie and him has had more time to cement? Who knows, maybe the fandom will no longer be torn in the middle on the subject. Either way, it’s just... too early to make this an issue, I think).

Now that the writers and actors strike is about to begin being felt (and as we wait for those greedy billion dollar companies who are refusing to negotiate fair pay and conditions to give up) here's 10 of my favorite (all around best) fully finished older series you should definitely check out if you haven't watched.
I mean it, these are the shows with continuously great writing and a satisfying endings that manage to actually deliver on their promises.
-----
1. Leverage - (containing 5 seasons, or 77 episodes) - trailer here.
Tumblr media
Hitter, Hacker, Grifter, Thief and Mastermind. Heists and cons. Stealing from the rich and giving to their victims. They provide... leverage.
Meant for anyone who enjoys bad guys being the best good guys, who will burn down the lives of evil CEOs and then gloat in the background. Very satisfying.
Hands down the best example of a found family trope I've ever seen on screen. Barring none.
2. Killjoys - (containing 5 seasons, or 50 episodes) - trailer here.
Tumblr media
Space Bounty Hunters. Another case of found family trope. Bisexual space princess assassin. Quippy sentient ship. Green alien goo. Evil lesbians (but like... in a good way). The warrant is all.
More seriously though, it's a story about three killjoys and the bounties they go after. Initially. And then they have to save the entire Quad from some very terrifying... stuff.
Contains one of the best friendships I've ever seen on television.
3. Orphan Black - (containing 5 seasons, or 50 episodes) - trailer here.
Tumblr media
Found family trope but with clones.
Low level grifter sees a woman who looks exactly like her kill herself and plans to take over her identity long enough to cash out. Except then there's two other women who also look exactly like her. And apparently they're all clones and someone's killing them.
Enter a global conspiracy. Human experimentation. Lots of clone shenanigans. Some serial killings. And a few murders 💖.
4. Person of Interest - (containing 5 seasons, or 103 episodes) - trailer here.
Tumblr media
Okay I'm beginning to see how I might have a found family trope issue.
Former CIA agent gets recruited by a reclusive billionaire computer programmer who developed a... machine that can predict acts of terror before they happen. But it also predicts 'irrelevant' acts of violence that will result in someone's death.
Unless someone interferes.
I'd really like to spoil some stuff to get you all to watch this one. But I'm going to maintain self control and just mention that early on they get a dog named Bear. Bear is a very good boy. Watch it for Bear.
Also for excellent commentary on rights of privacy, government surveillance and what does 'greater good' even mean? But mostly Bear.
5. 12 Monkeys - (containing 4 seasons, or 47 episodes) - trailer here.
Tumblr media
The very best time travel show out there. What starts out as a confusing mess of causality basically exploding, by the end of the series all makes complete and total sense.
(when that final timey-whimey loop slid into place and revealed the entire pattern it was like a choir of angels started singing in the back of my head. It was freaking glorious).
Anyway, a man from a post apocalyptic future travels into the past to stop a plague from decimating nearly the entire world population.
He has the name of the man who released the virus and it's supposed to be a single trip. One trip. One bullet. Simple. Done.
Except then things keep escalating, and escalating until time begins eating its own tail and it might start looking like the end of the world might be a better ending than erasing all of time and space from reality.
Because when our guys screw it up, they screw it up GOOD.
And oh yeah... found family.
6. The Good Place - (containing 4 seasons, or 53 episodes) - trailer here.
Tumblr media
A self-proclaimed Arizona dirtbag opens her eyes and finds out that she's dead and got accepted in the Good Place. Except that as soon as she arrives the Good Place starts glitching, and she really, REALLY needs to become a better person before she can be found out and kicked out to the Bad Place.
Luckily her assigned soulmate was a professor of ethics and moral philosophy.
One of the funniest, most thoughtful and clever comedies I've ever watched. Ever. The characters are delightful and by the time the final minute rolled around I had sobbed my heart out multiple times (which, as we all know, is a sign of the very best comedies out there).
As for the question of whether or not this too contains Found Fami- Yes! Obviously, yes.
7. Avatar: the Last Airbender - (containing 3 seasons, or 61 episodes) - intro here (couldn't locate the trailer but it's basically the same thing in this case).
Tumblr media
The four nations lived in harmony. Until the Fire Nation attacked.
It's been a hundred years since the beginning of the war when two kids from the Southern Water Tribe find a boy frozen in ice and wake him up. A boy who's able to bend all four elements... though not very well.
Enter multi-nation flying road trip (thank you Appa, we love you most of all) as they try to find teachers for the Avatar and save the world.
Includes found family (shut up), amazing fight scenes, the most heartfelt and vivid characters ever, and the best example of a redemption arc actually done well.
8. Love Between Fairy and Devil - (containing 1 season, or 36 episodes) - trailer here.
Tumblr media
This one gutted me. I'm saying this as a compliment. But it had to be said. Completely destroyed me. I just haven't been the same.
A love story between an Orchid Fairy and the leader of the Moon Tribe that starts out with her accidentally releasing him from millennia long imprisonment and then takes you through the caleidoscope of all possible human emotions (it's a body-swap comedy through the first part, then a romcom, then a dramatic romantic tale, and finally a tragic love story).
But it's such a satisfying slow burn.
And it carries this... humanity through the whole thing that makes it so visceral.
If you're a romantic who's very tired of instalove and characters dropping all their morals because 'ooh, attractive person' then you've got to watch this. Because this story does NOT take the easy road there.
(my more extensive rec for this series can be found here)
9. Star Wars: The Clone Wars - (containing 7 seasons, or 133 episodes) - fanmade trailer here (it was better than any of the official ones).
Tumblr media
This series did so much. Introduced Ahsoka Tano, and made us love her. Gave names and faces and souls to the Clone Troopers (okay, it's the same face but you know what I mean), to a point where their endings during Order 66 destroyed me just as much as the ending of the Jedi Order. And somehow made me both love Anakin AND be a million times more angry with him.
There are some arcs in this series that might be a bit weaker. But there were some... god, there's a reason I love Clone Wars more than any other series or trilogy in this universe. And I'm not even a little ashamed to say it.
Must watch for Disaster Lineage shenanigans; for the vod'e; AND for the Jedi (who did their best okay? They always did their best 😭💔).
(and on the subject of found family... do I even need to comment)
10. Nikita - (containing 4 seasons, or 73 episodes) - trailer here.
Tumblr media
A rogue assassin that escaped Division - covert government agency that takes recruits out of prison, fakes their deaths and then forces them to become spies and assassins - has come back to take it down. Brick by brick if she has to. With guns and explosives too when that works better.
Contains soooo many cool fight scenes. Is full of incredible characters you'll fall in love with (and hate with) very quickly. And most of all has an incredibly complex relationship of mentorship and friendship between two women that holds both great admiration and betrayal, real care and love as well as rage and hatred, forgiveness, mutual respect and an unbreakable kind of bond that so very rarely involves even one female character on TV, let alone two.
(as usual, found family tropes up the wazzoo).
-----
In conclusion. We all know there's going to be a large space between seasons of our favorite shows now (and some shows that aren't going to survive it). Let's fill that space with some excellent TV we haven't had a chance to see yet.
And direct the blame for the wait towards the right place (i.e. the studios).

Stargate SG-1 (*whoooooooshhh* 'Close the iris.')
Leverage ('sometimes bad guys are the only good guys you get').
The Vampire Diaries (the first 3 seasons + American Gothic (I might have developed into a feminist partially out of spite and in self defense to watching this show now that I think about it)).
Charmed ('was it a demon? 😧' / 'No, it was w a t e r m e l o n 🍉😭.')
Avatar: the Last Airbender (just watch the whole thing (because it's eeeeexcellent) but keep in mind that The Southern Raiders is my favorite episode).
Buffy the Vampire Slayer ('No weapons, no friends, no hope. Take all that away and what's left?' / 'Me!')
Psych (🎶 IN BETWEEN THE LINES THERE'S A LOT OF OBSCURITY, I'M NOT INCLINED TO RESIGN TO MATURITY... 🎵)
The Pretender (honestly you can just write - miss parker the pretender - in a search engine and as soon as you get the pictures you'll probably immediately know me better).

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
5 Times The Doctor Talked About River Song With Graham (+1 Time The Fam Finally Met Her) - the 13/River fic where Graham finds the Doctor's missing wedding ring and she gradually opens up about her wife.
“Her name was River Song.” She says once he’s already taken a few steps. He stops, turning around, giving her the opportunity to continue or not as she needs. “She was an archaeologist. And a professor. And a criminal. And she was brilliant and absolutely mad.”
“She must have been. Married you didn’t she?” Graham jokes before he can help himself.
But Doc just grins like she agrees and laughs to herself.
Something uncoils in Graham’s chest at seeing Doc’s face regaining its natural brightness, however tinged with grief. The grief isn’t new either, he’s seen shadows of it in her all along but this is the first moment she doesn’t seem to be trying to hide it. Or maybe the first time she’s not trying to hide from it.
The Suspicious Case of Tribbles - the 13/River fic where River tries to "borrow" the TARDIS for lil'bit.
"Don't mind me. Carry on!" The woman says, dropping a bag of something heavy that sounds like a bag of rocks to the floor and hurrying towards the TARDIS controls. "I'm only here to establish an alibi. A short hop over to the other side of the hemisphere and some 38 planetary hours in the past should do it. I'll send you lot right back to him none the wiser. It'll be our little secret."
She's Come Undone and Set Free - Elejah, Bonbekah, Klaroline and Elena/Caroline/Bonnie/Rebekah friendship story that deals with Elena and Caroline getting to be angry and making Damon pay for what he did to them, as well as supporting each other and beginning to heal. (WIP, but there's only 2 chapters to go).
“I want you to know, that’s not why I will always hate you, Damon.” She strengthened her hold on his face at the look of caution that was surfacing at her words, likely because he’d just now been remembering that not that long ago she’d broken his neck. “I won’t even hate you because of the sire bond. Though I wasn’t lying, it felt like being a slave to your every desire, whether or not you actually voiced them. And the funny thing? I’m not sure I’ll ever know how much me there was when I was making any of the choices that lead to Jeremy dying.”
“What’s your point?” Damon asked and grabbed her hands in a vice-like grip that made it impossible for Elena to try again what she'd done nearly two days ago when she'd regained her humanity. But she'd already known there wasn’t a point trying now that he'd be expecting it, so she didn’t fight to escape him.
“She’s my best friend, Damon. I will never forgive you for what you did to her,” she said and did absolutely nothing as Damon’s eyes widened and he tried to turn around. He wasn’t fast enough. He’d been too consumed by Elena to pay attention to any other heartbeats around them, and despite her age, Caroline had always been an unusually fast vampire.
Morai's Call to Hope - my Star Wars, time travel, Snips and Skyguy fic where Anakin gets pulled into the World Between Worlds three days before his Fall, watches as Darth Vader is about to kill Ahsoka... aaaaaaand jumps forward to stop him. (WIP and I'm very ashamed about it, because I loved writing this story and really hope to get back to it someday)
From behind Anakin there comes again a whisper from a different time: ‘I would never let anyone hurt you, Ahsoka… never…’
But in front of Anakin comes something else.
‘Then you will die,' the Sith says in direct contradiction to everything Anakin has ever promised both aloud and inside his own heart to the closest thing he’s ever had to a little sister or a daughter. And every single cell of his body rebels against a time where he would ever utter those words to Ahsoka. So even as the red lightsaber ignites in the Sith’s hands, Anakin rushes forward and through the fragile line of a portal separating his reality from theirs.
As the Sith’s lightsaber finishes the arch of its blow instead of encountering Ahsoka’s white dual sabers it’s stopped by the intervening block from a blue lightsaber in the hands of the Anakin Skywalker sixteen years out of his time.
You know who you remind me of? - the 13/River fic where the Doctor is in the middle of hiding under a table with Yaz for plot reasons when she hears the sound of her wife's laughter and is immediately distracted from the mission that brought them there.
The laugh is thick with mischief and a galaxy of secrets.
She knows that laugh.
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try to. I adore comments and really truly appreciate receiving them, so I do try to respond to them. But sometimes I get into a kind of slump where replying just feels exhausting. And by the time I'm over that, it might have been like two weeks, and then it feels embarrassing to respond.
And sometimes I just don't know WHAT to say.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably Last Words. I do have quite a few angsty fics but I usually end them either happily or with an open ending that's got light at the end of the tunnel. But this once I came up with an idea for soulmate-identifying-last-words and then wrote a Korrasami fic for it.
Asami had known that Korra was her soulmate. And like everyone else she was in no hurry to see it proven. And there she might be counted lucky, because she did not learn it for many years to come. They survived the war with Kuvira, and then returned from their vacation in the spirit world, and survived many more battles beyond that. The Avatar lived a long life.
But Asami Sato lived a longer one.
So that has the saddest ending.
Well, that, or maybe what's the point of greater good, which is my Queliot (with a side of Wickoff) story where Julia talks to Quentin during the time Eliot was possessed by the Monster.
She finds him stubbornly looking through the mountain of books, searching for any and every scrap of information on Enyalius they can get. He looks like he hasn’t slept since the moment weeks ago when Eliot managed to surface for those brief few moments to tell them he was alive. Hope’s a bitch that way.
“We need to stop him Q.” Julia says, from behind him.
Quentin’s shoulders freeze in place and he leans forward, hands clenching the spine of the book he’d just been about to pick up.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Like I said, I tend to mostly write happy endings. But if I have to pick what I considered as the happiest one, then here's a story that's full of angst in the middle, which made the ending feel even happier because of the contrast.
6 Times Bellamy Tried to Forget That He Was in Love With Clarke (+1 Time He Couldn’t Anymore) - exactly what it sounds like. My big look into Bellamy's head through most of the seasons. Canon almost to the end, where I sharply switch tracks and give Bellarke the happy ending they goddamn deserved.
The first thing he saw as the delinquents pulled aside the sheets of scrap metal to let their two missing people in was Clarke running in front, scraped up but seemingly uninjured. He wished that the relief that overtook him was entirely selfish, that it had to do with the fact that he had his partner back and he wouldn’t have to carry the burden of their people’s lives all by himself. But that was crap.
It was vastly overpowered by the simple joy of seeing that Clarke was alright.
“Hey, we heard an explosion. What happened?” she fired out rapidly as soon as she was in front of him. Face serious and eyes focused entirely on Bellamy, - and it was something that had gotten to be so familiar to him that it almost felt like having her there was akin to getting back a missing limb.
He almost, almost fell to the instinct to pull her into his arms because he was just so damned glad that she was alive that the only thing that saved him was the fact Jasper got there first.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not a lot. But there's been a few occasions where I have gotten some, yes. Mostly the 'this was a waste of my time' variety.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Not... really? On a few rare occasions I've written a bit of spice but I don't think that people that read smut would give me more than 2.5⭐ out of 5⭐.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Yes. When the idea for one strikes. And I don't know if I'd say it's the craziest one, but definitely a fun one is my Stargate SG-1/Leverage crossover where the Stargate Program needs to recruit some thieves.
The Homeworld Security Job. (incidentally this is also the fic that got me the most amount of hate comments).
“I know, that’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying that no one at SGC can go, you need thieves for this mission. And this is a big planet, you guys must have some good ones between those 7.5 billion people. You get me a few of them and I can teach them how to play a wealthy minor Goa’uld long enough to get in and out. But I can’t teach someone to be a good enough liar to not get caught. Not with the time we have here.”
“What do you want us to do, Vala? Grab a bunch of criminals off the street and hope they don’t decide that stealing a Stargate and selling that to the highest bidder instead would be a more lucrative business plan?” Cameron asks.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I'm aware.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Once. My Lunarry fic the ones that seek and find (six years in the relationship of harry and luna) has a translation into Chinese Mandarin 探寻和发现(哈利与卢娜相处的六年).
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No. It's always sounded kinda complicated.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
I do NOT have a one single favorite ship. But there are a few that I will probably never let go of and those are: Elejah, Swan Queen, Hizzie, Bellarke, Spuffy, Doctor/River, Clizzy, Bering and Wells, Kahlan/Cara, Parker/Hardison, Graylora and DFQC/XLH.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
All of them 😭.
But especially the Star Wars time travel one I mentioned earlier. I love that one so much. And I want to go back to it and finish it. But the stars aren't looking all that bright.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I'd like to think that I'm good at getting into characters' heads. Their inner monologues tend to be the easiest part to write (it's the dialogues and surrounding scenes that trip me up).
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Grammar. English isn't my first language, so the fiddly parts of the grammar is what I've picked up through osmosis while reading, which isn't exactly... a flawless way to do it.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've done it a few times (mostly in my Clizzy fics, because Izzy's character peppers a decent bit of Spanish in her dialogue on the show) and have nearly always kind of regretted it (I've needed to do fixes nearly every time, had to learn that google translate cannot be trusted the hard way).
19. First fandom you wrote for?
If I remember correctly, then I think that was a very terrible attempt at a BtVS/Stargate SG-1 crossover that has been deleted since then.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
This is a very predictable answer but that's She's Come Undone and Set Free, I'm just really proud of this story for a lot of reasons. And though there are a few other of my fics I love more than others, this one is just... my favorite of all of them.

But just so we're clear on one point: they're not allowed to take back their Parker is the Mastermind development of the series finale. I will live with Wyle being a part of the revived Leverage despite how I haven't seen him play anyone I didn't find annoying, but I draw the line at him being the head of the team.
He's the newbie, you don't make the newbie the leader.
Don't let me down writers of Leverage. You've never done it before so I'm trusting you to keep it up.

It was like an episode of Evil Leverage... except not as cool. I mean the episode was extremely cool. The crew wasn’t as cool as Team Leverage.
....aaand now I want a 9-1-1/Leverage crossover.
How would that WORK though?
Ooooh, the team is puling a con somewhere when like... the building explodes or something. Trapping half the team inside and the other half outside ready to con their way in with the first responders (who would be the 118).
(I’m putting Hardison and Sophie trapped in the building, Eliot and Parker running in immediately AFTER the explosion (to cross paths with Chimney, Buck, Hen and Eddie once they’re inside) and Nate left outside to call 911 (and getting Maddie) and then to con his way into staying informed and meeting Bobby and Athena).

Hey. I remembered you liked Timeless and I know you loved Leverage. What do you think about that the same actor plays Flynn and Moreau? I’ve watched Leverage like 5 times, yet didn’t figure out they were the same actor until I clicked on wikipedia 😂
Only 5? I admire your restraint ;)
And I actually did notice and I don’t know, I think it’s because we didn’t really see that much of Moreau in the show itself (he was in just 2 episodes) but it wasn’t that hard for me to separate the two roles.
It is interesting though because honestly Damien Moreau and Garcia Flynn are two completely different characters and so it’s just hard to remember they have ‘the same face’.
Plus I can’t stand Moreau but absolutely loved Garcia so one face I wanted to punch a lot for what he’d done (especially to Eliot and to Hardison) and the other face made me want to wrap him in blankets. So kudos to Goran Višnjić I guess.

WRITING IS HARD
Okay so I’m currently writing a Stargate/Leverage crossover (The Homeworld Security Job - hehe I’m so clever, shut up), Im like 5k words in right now, have promised my sister not to publish it until I’m actually finished for once (and she’s holding me to it, she’s kinda scary here actually, apparently she’s interested in this one for once and wants to find out how it ends).
So now you can hold me to it too.
Anyway, writing is hard (x2) and I’d like to actually know if anyone would even be interested in this fic at all.
Here’s what the summary is going to look like:
“I don’t do freelance for you guys any more.”
“We’re hoping you’ll make an exception for this. It’s a matter of homeworld security.”
or
Eliot Spencer is ten minutes away from closing the brewpub for the night when a four-star general dressed in civvies walks through the front door. It'd be fine if the general needed just him, unfortunately the Stargate Program has an urgent need for some trustworthy high class thieves.
It takes place 10 years after Stargate SG-1 (Unending aired June 22 2007) and like 5 years after Leverage (The Long Goodbye Job was December 25 2012, so I guess 4 years and 4 months after Leverage, but you know, I’m rounding up).
And no, Jack and Eliot aren’t going to be the only main characters. I’m moving through viewpoints in this one (right now I have Eliot, Jack, Parker, Hardison and Vala’s), and I’m planning to give everyone pretty equal time in the spotlight.
(and yes I know I should work on one of my poor WIPs instead of something new, but honestly this might end up being good for that too. I hope.).
And it’s mostly Gen, well there’s couples but the romance isn’t the point, so the couples will mostly get throwaway lines and no drama. Friendships might get a bit of drama.
Mostly I wrote this because Eliot has been lying about ALIENS!!!
Okay, I’m done now. I’m excited about this fic but I’m not allowed to publish it so I needed to let off my steam somehow. So I’m posting this and making you suffer with me (but not as much as if I just posted the first chapter and then never updated it again, so count your mercies people (I’m on so much coffee rn)).
Bye now.

I just watched the first episode of Emerald City. It’s... I don’t know. It has potential but I can also see how they could very easily mess it all up. I liked the witches. But not Oz. I liked Dorothy. But not Lucas.
The magic was cool, but the politics kind of weak. Though I’m giving that some time to improve.
Tip’s story might prove to be rather problematic too.
I’m also hoping they bring the Witch of the East back somehow.
And OF COURSE Toto was the best.
