congratulations! you managed to make it to the end of your own story quest before indirectly mentioning kaveh! the close up of his smile when doing so is horrendous

the fond expression whilst feigning annoyance, the contrast between this expression and the ruminative ones he dons during this quest needs to be studied, these pixels fascinate me - also this part of the quest serves as the divide between alhaitham's professional life and the personal, us being in his house, and kaveh being home... i wonder if this is trying to tell us something (and then the ending dialogue before alhaitham kicks the player out implicitly confirming that kaveh is one of alhaitham's priorities through framing...)

the Infamous expression, this is criminal, i've watched the transition of his expressions here and yeah this is not just because of the angle

he's so amused by their rapport it's sickening

kaveh asking (hesitantly) for the second time if alhaitham really is okay and alhaitham responding that he is fine, and diverts the conversation back to their goading rapport - alhaitham fulfils the initial comment that kaveh made to him upon alhaitham returning, that the painting apparently isn't actually straight. the care they have for each other is apparent although disguised through goading because they cannot be emotionally open with each other

he knows exactly what to say to wheedle kaveh and he's so proud of this fact (i want to compare this teasing rapport to that one instance in a parade of providence, where kaveh loses in drawing lots and alhaitham points out the conflict of interest due to kaveh having a streak of misfortune in his usual goading way, only for kaveh to express genuine dislike for this, which causes alhaitham to startle and back off due to realising the extent of kaveh's upset. it serves to highlight that these typical examples of them 'bickering' are mostly inconsequential, with kaveh initiating the goading or whole-heartedly reciprocating, yes these types of exchanges only serve to reinforce kaveh's image of alhaitham as someone who is critical of him so yeah that isnt good, but that exchange in a parade of providence as compared to this scene in alhaitham's story quest is that there a manageable level they are able to navigate without risking genuine hurt)

he only said that so kaveh would call him out for said furniture, he is petty and proud and endeared - that being said, we deserve a boring 'ugly' wood carving reveal. also am obsessed with the og chinese where instead of kaveh saying 'don't go off buying furniture without me' he states that alhaitham does not have 'permission' to do so without him (which then probably parallels the line in a parade of providence where kaveh asks where alhaitham was for dinner and instead of 'i wasn't aware i had to report my whereabouts to you' alhaitham says 'am i to report my whereabouts to you?', just these little nuances that the eng misses)

he's so... fond? of kaveh's antics? right in front of kaveh's face? and kaveh just... assumes that alhaitham is thinking 'terrible' thoughts about outing him as poor and homeless? it just goes to show that kaveh sees a completely different version of alhaitham than is actually true

If there was something that the General Mahamatra valued beyond justice and absolute truth, it’d be the loyalty of those around him without asking for anything in return. Cyno could count on both hands the number of people he’d risk his life to or who’d have his back, and to be honest, there weren't many of them. Thus, the passing of the years only solidified this philosophy, confirming that trust wasn’t something to be given, but earned — it being the reason why he only kept a certain number of people close to him.

However, this belief had also shown Cyno that some priorities were greater than others, and ensuring your happiness and safety became the main one of them all. Especially when you were also the one carrying his babies.

Your pregnancy announcement was unexpected, but the change in your husband's personality wasn’t. As your belly grew, you could notice that Cyno became a little more clingy with you, enjoying being by your side or placing his warm hands on it to feel his children's kicks. Though, the mahamatra also couldn't help but be more overprotective or bossy towards you, traits that seemed to have intensified over the months. 

Cyno liked to think that his overprotectiveness was justified since not only had he become a first-time father but of twins. His bossy acts weren’t for nothing either. It was just because your husband knew you and your impulsiveness very well, so the slightest thought of the risks that you could put yourself out there of your own free will stressed him out already.

And this last one you seemed to do on purpose to test him since you had put yourself in critical situations more times than he wished to count.

So, to ease his worries and keep an eye on you, the decision to temporarily settle in Vila Aaru was mutually agreed, providing Cyno with a momentary sense of peace knowing that his very pregnant wife would be surrounded by competent and trustworthy people. And then, his children could be born in a comfortable and safe environment.

The decision couldn't have been the best because a few months later and just a few minutes apart, Aryan and Isaar were born on a cold night.

The leader of the Matras still can remember that it was when he was returning to the village from a patrol when he was greeted first by your painful screams and then by the sight of your sweaty and tearful figure. Your husband didn't think twice before taking Candace's place behind your back to give you the support you needed, sharing his strength with you and whispering comforting words in your ear.

Internally, Cyno felt more than terrified for this new stage in his life despite all the previous months of mental preparation. But as he watched in amazement Aryan in his arms and Isaar in yours, the mahamatra concluded that there were no books or scrolls in the world that could describe the feelings that coursed through his veins at that moment. There wasn't enough knowledge that could teach him how to be a father, and even so, he knew he’d learn along the way to be the best he could.

The first few weeks of adaptation were exhausting for both of you. Cyno was on leave from his position, being at yours and his babies disposal and dealing with most of the household tasks, which relieved you a lot. But if he ever thought that nothing would overcome the hardness of his work at Akademiya, the sleepless nights with his newborn twins proved him wrong. 

It wasn't something he complained about or refused to take on, though. He preferred you to rest as much as you could after spending the whole day with the children — it was more his lack of confidence in dealing with the little ones in your absence that tormented him.

As time went on, however, what he thought were difficult tasks became routine, so he could say with some confidence that he had adapted to fatherhood quite well. The bond between father and sons was also something that developed beautifully as the days went by, and some mornings, you’d be greeted with the sweet sight of the General Mahamatra sleeping on the armchair in the twins' room while holding both of them in his muscular arms.

Speaking of the twins, Aryan and Isaar couldn’t be as physically similar to Cyno more than they were already. The babies, just a few months old, have already demonstrated that they share the same personality with each other, which they also take after their father — the stoic and slightly indifferent expression frighteningly similar to Cyno. Aryan was a little more sullen, refusing to acknowledge others' attempts to make him smile while Isaar willingly raised his arms to familiar faces with the intention of getting something in return. 

While you watched them in disbelief, your husband smiled proudly. It seems his children were already good judges of character.

Strange in its own way, but a home full of love. That would be the phrase to define your family. Although both you had divergent methods of raising your children, the twins still had complete freedom of decision about what they judged to be right or wrong. Cyno would never punish his sons for their choices; instead, he’d wisely correct them. Even though outwardly he shows rigidity and authority, Cyno is quite soft when it comes to his family so he can't stay mad at you for long.

It was honestly a strange sight for many, mainly his subordinates and the scholars who knew the man's unorthodox methods of discipline very well.

Even so, they couldn’t help but admit that fatherhood suited him well. Strangely, but still.

They only feared the possibility that in the future the boys would develop a sense of humor as horrible as their father.

Kaveh

If they asked Kaveh what his greatest achievements are, he’d readily answer that there are three of them, although two had the greatest highlights.

Even if the architect was proud of the effort and dedication that led him to give life to the Palace of Alcazarzaray, the importance of the project seemed to be irrelevant compared to the fact that he managed to win you heart. After all, maybe there was nothing so disputed between men and women all around of Teyvat but to capture the attention of the Gem of Liyue. And in a way as ironic and simple as it seemed to be, Kaveh was the only one to be able to accomplish such a feat.

As the younger sister of the Tianquan of the Qixing, it wasn’t surprising that you were also known for your intelligence, elegance and beauty, so it was expected of your people that you’d marry someone with all these qualities and wealth that could satisfy your desires. 

However, they didn't know you as well as Ningguang and how Kaveh came to know you, and so, it was unexpected news that resonated for weeks when you announced your marriage.

At that time, so much uproar from the press and liyuean citizens had made Kaveh doubt himself because, well… did he even have all the means necessary to provide you with a comfortable life? He was slowly recovering from his debts and had barely started building his own house. Compared to you who literally lived in a mansion and ate from a golden platter he had nothing.

Nevertheless, you assured him that no gold or mora in the whole world could equal the love you had for him, only his reciprocal affection was what you were looking for.

And because your husband cares and loves you so deeply, Kaveh couldn't feel anything but thankfulness when you granted him with the greatest pride of his life. His daughter, Zahra.

The baby hadn't even been born and was already very adored by her father. During your pregnancy, Kaveh had been nothing but a passionate and devoted husband, helpful and attentive to both you and her. His passion for art led him to challenge himself and bring only the best when it comes to projecting Zahra's room, as well as designing the crib and its decorations. You couldn't help but watch with a smile on your face as he worked hard to provide only the best for his child.

When Zahra decided to come into the world, your husband's tearful, fascinated face only confirmed what you already knew: Kaveh would be an extraordinary father.

“I swear that I’ll protect you from all the cruelty of this world. And even if the day comes that I don't have the strength to do so, I’ll still keep you safe”, he promised as he placed a kiss on the baby's forehead.

You just smiled with equally teary eyes at the sweet scene.

Kaveh didn't know the meaning of the word tired when it came to his daughter. The blonde man loved having the baby in his arms, and when it came to her basic needs, he was a great help by proudly taking on the tasks. In fact, in the first weeks of Zahra's life, he had refused to let her sleep alone in her new room, and when you insisted on putting her in her crib, Kaveh would spend the entire night by her side. He’d never forgive himself if something happened to his little princess in his absence.

You could just roll your eyes.

As Zahra grew up, she became an increasingly beautiful girl and was much loved by her parents. Her naturally rosy cheeks and golden hair decorated with barrettes or bows made people compare her to a doll. The girl has a beauty and features similar to her father, though her sweet and laughing personality is her own traits. Kaveh feared that one day the evil of the world would take away the melodious sounds of her laughter, but there was a slight mischievous gleam in her golden eyes that betrayed that she was quite clever too.

In addition to her parents' unconditional love, Zahra also has a close relationship with her mother's sister, who has a weak spot for her niece, and with her paternal grandmother. 

Shortly before marrying you, the older woman had tried to invest more in her son's life, now making sure of participating in dinners, commemorative dates or holidays.

For a long time Kaveh believed that he wasn’t worthy of such happiness. After his father's death and his mother's estrangement, the architect had a single objective: trying to survive one day at a time, fighting his own demons and relying on what little was left of his savings. He had never considered himself a man of honor, someone who was worthy of having his own family and a home to return to. In fact, he didn't consider himself a lucky man at all.

And yet, he couldn't feel as fortunate as he did because through all the paths he took and decisions he made, one of them led him to you and gave him the greatest achievements of his life.

Alhaitham

Hardly anyone would admit it out loud, but your presence in the halls of Akademiya was as fresh as a breath of spring air.

As the new Darshan teacher of Haravatat, your intelligence and passion for knowledge were characteristics that not only your students came to admire, but even the sages themselves gushed praise about, which eventually earned you a reputation that spread throughout the dendro nation. Furthermore, your beauty and charisma only complemented your charm, so there were many hearts that you had caught along the way — and consequently also have broken, as the slight bulge beneath your clothes and the golden ring shining on your left ring finger made it very clear who yours already belonged to.

To say that the beginning of your relationship with the Akademiya’s Scribe was even the subject of an academic thesis would be an understatement given that Alhaitham wasn’t someone who was known for his friendliness much less cordiality. In fact, his disinterested expression and acid humor worked precisely as a mechanism to purposefully keep people away from him, and even his friends weren’t immune to his unpleasant comments.

But even though the question remained, the students quickly learned that this attitude would never apply to you.

Like a moth drawn to the light, Alhaitham was equally drawn to you, they concluded. There was something about you that just your presence was enough to generate a small and not so noticeable change in Alhaitham's aura, even if to others he remained as rigid as he was. Besides, the progress of your pregnancy had also shown them that the scribe was as human as they were, he just had a less flashy way of showing his concern and care for his wife.

What the scholars and citizens of Sumeru saw, however, was just the tip of the iceberg compared to the affection you received from your husband when the doors to your home closed. Although Alhaitham hadn't shown his excitement as openly as you, the scribe was internally happy to begin a new stage of life by your side. And you could see this in the number of maternity books and notebooks with notes organized in his office, in the meals he had prepared meticulously thinking about nutritional values ​​or in the care he took to suggest and choose a simple and meaningful name for your baby.

His actions were small and discreet, but enough to prove to you that he already loved the child as much as you did.

Hakim's arrival into the world also showed you the efforts your husband would make for his son. With a smile gracing his lips and slightly teary eyes, Alhaitham allowed himself to express himself a little more in the face of such a beautiful moment. It wasn't something that even you saw frequently and, therefore, you’d certainly make sure to eternalizing the picture forever in your memory.

“Thank you”, was the only thing he could say to you while looking at you with enormous tenderness.

Despite the overwhelming happiness that coursed within him, the scribe also couldn't help but feel a little empty at his grandmother's absence. Even though the longing was something he had managed for a long time now, it was in moments like these that the lady's absence came back. He was sure she’d love meeting you and her great-grandson, but wherever she was, he also knew she was taking care of his family in her own way.

Furthermore, looking at you and the child that slept so peacefully in his arms, Alhaitham knew that there was nothing to fear and that his son would grow up in a home filled with as much love as he was.

Therefore, fatherhood wasn't something that scared Alhaitham nor did it make him doubt his ability to take care of his son. If someone asked him what his biggest challenges were, he wouldn't be able to think of any because every day he was faced with something new and learned from it. Plus, Hakim was a sweet and quiet baby, a mix of both parents' personalities. Understanding his child's needs was as easy as if they were his own.

Still so small, Hakim would be surrounded by reading and multiple knowledge, often being found in the arms of one of his parents while you were working or simply reading for pleasure. You discovered that the baby liked to listen to you or Alhaitham reading aloud, so it wasn't strange to find you or your husband somewhere in the house reciting some academic article with the little one within reach.

When the boy was old enough to sit up, that’d be the time when you’d return to teaching at Akademiya, and even if your baby's presence during classes had already been discussed and authorized, Alhaitham wouldn’t hesitate to take over his care — whether taking him to his own office or to the Sanctuary of Surasthana where he would spend hours enjoying the attention of Lesser Lord Kusanali.

You could say that Alhaitham is a simplistic man. He recognizes his flaws and knows that he came with many of them, which is why he distances himself from so many people. But it was in the moments when he returned home, returning to you and your son who were waiting for him with great enthusiasm that the man thought that there was nothing as perfect as his own home.

you guys will have to forgive me again but i did not beta-read this part (clearly) nor i'll have the patience to do so because i'm currently traveling at my granny's home and it's so hot here that i couldn't even write this whole headcanon without stop everytime to take a breath of fresh air. therefore, i won't have the patience to look for mistakes now. i'll let it with you tho.

kaveh loves it deliciously loves it, who doesn’t love feeling special? it gives him a sense of responsibility to help you feel safe. his arms wrapped around you as you rant about your day and my precious baby unu architect listens to you and validates your emotions throughout. “whaat? they did that- what a snob.” “yeah they did that,” “want me to teach em a lesson?”  it is incredibly cute how kaveh would just softly kiss you, talking to you about your day and cuddle you through the night, his arms wrapping around your torso, toying with your body a little like an excited child. 

cyno the general mahamatra usually is not going to look soft, approachable even. “what are you doing?” his demeanor right now is unmatched. blushed cheeks, tender tone as he welcomes a hug from you when he comes home. needy arms wrapping around his torso as you feel him patting your head in utter warmth and gratefulness of coming back home to you. “i love you, welcome home cyno.” | “home is where the heart is,” cyno — yes cyno can turn poetic at times. what else could you want from him really? he is the perfect man you’d ask for, keeping you his priority and not ashamed to express how he feels when you dote on him. “why am i getting so many hugs suddenly?” cyno teases — softly smiling and kissing your forehead. “cus you deserve it dummy.” you manage to answer, feeling the blissful warmth of his body against you.

diluc had no idea you were so cutely inviting him to the bedroom at night. wearing comfortable pjs and looking at him with a doting smile. “welcome home,” you cooed, as the handsome man you had the privilege to call your husband dented the mattress with his weight, scooting closer to you. your hands quick to grab his, placing them at the curve of your ass— rightly so. diluc smiled and softly, playfully spanked your ass. “needy much?” he smiled, pulling you closer against his freshly showered body, leaning your head against his chest. “for you? always.” your comment had diluc blushing brighter than his hair. “me too, angel.”

you don’t really need to initiate cuddles with ajax, he is that fucking needy. always clutching onto you, holding your hand, hugging you from behind, carrying you princess style. however— you don’t really let him take the lead always. quick on your feet, you hugged him from behind as he returned home to you. clothing soiled, the musky scent of sweat lingering in the room as your hands glided across his chest. “welcome home, ajax.” childe could fucking swear his heart lost a beat, that he fell in love with you again the moment your affections reached him. how your care reached him. “happy to be back to you sweet little girlie.” childe is quick to pick you up as if you weigh absolutely nothing, wrapping your legs around his waist and take to towards the shower. sometimes… cuddles would end up in something else. today was one of those days.

the great sage was rarely fond of people, and even rarer was when he purposefully went out of his way to do something for another person. thus, after you had gotten over the initial shock of his confession— wham! he had pulled you aside to hand you a box that held matching rings. you almost fainted, the insanity of your precious haitham not understanding the implications of such jewelry threw you for a loop. however, you accepted it as a sort of promise ring, the silver band wrapped with green, vine-like markings. kaveh was the first to notice. “what’s that you’ve got there?” he smirked. his pointer finger directed at alhaitam’s middle finger where the ring rested. “oh, and what’s this? y/n has one too? oh my!” and alhaitam, sweet, red faced alhaitam, simply said, “it’s a gesture of our friendship!” you shook your head, smiling. kaveh laughed. you knew he was starting to suspect you anyway.

KAVEH — matching earrings

having your boyfriend’s roommate intrude on the two of you was rare, but that didn’t mean it didn’t happen. you were beginning to think it was on purpose— alhaitam was smart, and it wouldn’t take a genius to realize your relationship. (especially with how affectionate kaveh was sometimes) “y/n, help me put them in,” kaveh whines. “hold on, kaveh. here,” you finished putting your own earrings in, before coming over to kaveh. you press a kiss to his temple, which leads to him kissing your wrist— soon the earrings are left forgotten on the vanity and your collective priority is to kiss each other to death. these ministrations hold your attention so tightly that you don’t hear the knock at the door. or the ‘i’m coming in’ from alhaitham. well, he was bound to find out one way or another.

tighnari’s tongue stuck out a little when he was focused— a cute habit of his that you had yet to comment on. now, he was focused on latching a clasp on a bracelet he had bought you. on his wrist was a matching one: gold and green with incredible luster. he was struggling. “need help, nari?” you ask, giggling. “no. m’fine.” he was certainly not fine, with how long it was taking him. “you’re so cute,” you say softly, tighnari looking up at you annoyed. “and?” you laugh again, the clasp on your bracelet still not closed. you kiss the top of his head, chuckling. “i think you need some help, hon.”

I’m in love with how they are giving so many subtle hints about Alhaitham and Kaveh’s relationship and how important it is to Alhaitham, despite the way they always seem to be bickering.

Throughout the 3.2 archon quest Alhaitham tells us that the reason why he is so interested in helping Sumeru is because he doesn’t want his daily life to change. After that Kaveh starts being mentioned very frequently by him or we hear other people in the akademiya complain about how they daily argue.

Then, of course, we meet them both arguing with each other in the House of Daena, which was quite the argument. We also know many of their casual interactions and how they go to the café/bar frequently together. Furthermore, Alhaitham pays all of Kaveh’s bills (something no one would do for someone they don't care for).

And now, during Alhaitham’s quest, their tones were so soft (At least in JP and CN) and also domestic. Kaveh seems to worry a lot about Alhaitham and exchanges glances with him, which made me melt inside. I also love how Alhaitham is constantly smiling while bickering with kaveh. Remember, we dont see him smiling like this that often. Which means he really enjoys it. I really liked how after the second time Kaveh asked him if he is okay, he replied with a tease about the painting Kaveh had mentioned before. Also smiling.

But most importantly, something I see no one talking about: the moment when Alhaitham was explaining why he resigned from being the Grand Sage to being the scribe again and he tells us that “It’s important to keep your priorities straight”, the camera points at Kaveh.

I know this game will probably never have any canon ship because they need to make everyone happy, but we do get hints like this from time to time and I think this was one of them.

After all, why would they bother to add all of those scenes with Kaveh when the quests had already concluded, if not for showing us how is what is Alhaitham’s daily life he wants to protect that much? We saw how happy he is, how eager he was to get home and go have dinner with Kaveh. We also see how Kaveh had been waiting for him as well.

I’d like to know more about their relationship, even if it ends up not being romantic (though how do you explain that face Kaveh made when paimon asked if they are friends).

Tighnari won't call you his or let you call him yours. You've been flirting back and forth for a while and he's more affectionate with you than anyone else, letting you get closer than any friend would. And yet, that's all he ever calls you. You've never heard him refer to you as more, even though you both act like it. What you don't hear is his conversations with Cyno when no one else is around, those nights when he expresses his true fear is overwhelming you. He is fully aware of his monogamous nature as a fennec fox and the moment he allows that dam to break, he won't be able to let you go, regardless of what either of you want. He can't- no, he won't make that choice for you, so he pulls as far back as he can let himself, not realizing how this borderline behavior is hurting you more.

Cyno doesn't want you to hide anything from him. Of course he understands you have a right to privacy and he respects your boundaries, but he also knows about the wary looks he receives from everyone else. Ever since he became the General Mahamatra, he has caused unease and secretiveness in those around him, and he couldn't stand for you to see him the same way. You shouldn't fear him, you shouldn't have to hide anything from your partner, so he tries to know everything he can. He always asks about your day, and follows up on his follow up questions, until it almost feels like an interrogation. If you hesitate to answer, he urges you to continue, wanting you to feel safe and heard, yet his pursuit of honesty may cause the very anxiety he is trying to prevent.

Kaveh is perfect, too perfect. The Light of the Ksharewar and genius architect behind the Palace of Alcazarzaray has a reputation to live up to after all. What kind of man would he be if he couldn't make his most beloved happy? He works so much harder than before, both to earn the money to spoil you(even if you insist you don't need it) and to make sure you never see... the less likable sides of himself. Can't have you worrying about him after all. He's not stressed about work, and no, his living situation doesn't bother him a bit! Not a trace of exhaustion or self-doubt to be found here! After all, what could ever concern him when he has you?

Alhaitham is single-minded. It's one of the traits you admired most in him in fact. The day he decided to pursue you, no distraction or obstacle could dissuade him until he was yours. These days however, you feel like less of a goal and more of an obligation. Everything has it's place in his life, and now that wooing you is no longer a priority, he's shifted focus to other things. Anytime you try to see him outside of your scheduled date nights, he brushes you off with explanations of being busy. Of course, he still spends time with you and is never late to or forgetful of your dates, so what's the issue? What's making your heart ache at the thought of him?

I didn't just hallucinate MHY devoting an entire third of a story quest plus one epilogue to Kaveh and Alhaitham bitching at each other like a couple that's been together for 75 years, right? Right? I mean, it's possible but if so, that hallucination included

Kaveh asking Alhaitham to help straighten a painting the only thing that'll be straightening here pfft like a 1950s housewife asking her man to get something from the top shelf

While I love the idea of Yandere!Kaveh sharing a darling with Alhaitham (begrudgingly and partially because he's broke and has nowhere to keep you hidden at), I also like to think Kaveh would ask for his payment for building the Palace of Alcazarzaray in the form of Dori allowing you to stay there plus, protection as that's Kaveh's main priority for you. It's the least Dori can do for the magnificence he's built for her and Kaveh had never negotiated that hard in all his life.

Dori agrees, yes, but with a catch of course. Kaveh is quick to agree without a second thought, it didn't matter that he'd have to be at life-long debt and possibly at the lowest point of his life for the next few months, it didn't matter as long as it was for you. You can kick, scream, curse, ignore his attempts at making simple conversations, reject his attempts to touch you or simply hold you ; he'll take it all, just...stay. Stay til he's everything figured out, stay until he builds you your own paradise, one grander than Alcazarzaray and reserved solely for you. For the beautiful future Kaveh can just see ahead, for you, he'll do anything.

kaveh would feel very conflicted, i think.

on one hand, he is overjoyed. his child's ambition was enough to move the gods above? his child's? the pride that swells in his chest is very much comparable to the pride he felt when the palace of alcazazaray finally came together properly. he's proud of them. the gods above should be moved by his child! maybe that's just his pride as their father talking, but still. he thinks they deserve the gods' recognition and more.

on the other hand, however...

kaveh understands why they're so angry. it's a hydro vision. of all the seven elements, it just had to be that one. he knows why they're so furious about it, he does. even though he's proud and overjoyed that their ambition was so great that the gods above acknowledged it, their happiness is his priority. their wellness is his priority. kaveh knows better than most that visions aren't always blessings. he understands very well that they can be curses, curses that bring nothing but pain and suffering upon the wielder. there is nothing to be done about it, however. this is not something that can be changed. he does wish, though, that he could take away the pain they were feeling. he can't, much to his dismay.

the best he can do is kiss away their tears and whisper gentle, kind reassurances while holding back tears of his own.

"my love..." he murmurs softly against their temple, pressing a small kiss there as his calloused fingertips traced random shapes and patterns on their upper arm. "you don't have to use it if you really don't want to. you don't. if it's going to weigh on you this heavily..."

"i just..." they cried harder into his neck. "what does she want from me?! she already took my family, what else does she want?!"

"shh... i know, honey. i know."

once they're calm enough, he'll take them out to puspa cafe and buy them something sweet and comforting... with alhaitham's mora, of course <3

this is a completely normal and nonchalant post about the camera angles used for alhaitham in the archon quest and his story quest

when we’re introduced to alhaitham the camera angles avoid allowing us a view of his eyes, which creates a mystery around alhaitham, his motives, and in turn causing us to question the validity of his words - is he a trustworthy ally or not?

Since this is a tactic used to reinforce the idea that alhaitham’s sincerity should potentially be questioned, i think it’s Interesting that this can be seen in the closing of the archon quest - after kaveh is introduced

the camera angle yet again reverts to concealing alhaitham’s eyes, which then acts as obscuring the truth of the matter - as well as alhaitham’s vagueness, which is an evasion tactic he uses often, and is even addressed in his character story 2. “It’s reason enough” is indicative that his stated motive - although actually, it is a presumed motive supplied by dehya - is enough of a motive to satiate everyone’s curiosity

the idea here is that there is an alternate reason he undertook the archon saving plan, rather than just to secure the job of the akademiya’s scribe. this points to another reason which couples into his “way of life” - so it’s telling that this is the same quest in which kaveh is introduced and is seen only in his interaction with alhaitham, in which alhaitham reveals that kaveh is his roommate

kaveh becomes inextricably linked with alhaitham’s “way of life”, and thus alhaitham’s contentment. This subtext created by the camera angle becomes surface text when interacting with alhaitham after the cutscene

Alhaitham attributes his enjoyment of the gathering to the genuine happiness that “the people” present in the grand bazaar feel - in this alhaitham indirectly links himself to “the people” feeling genuine happiness, as he, too, is present with the intention of celebrating

This discussion of happiness and overall contentment - first mentioned in alhaitham’s motive for maintaining his satisfactory “way of life” - is then immediately is followed by a mention of kaveh

Alhaitham mentions that he has taken “both” keys upon leaving the house, which references their living situation as roommates, but also refers back to alhaitham’s first mention of kaveh due to kaveh being missing from the archon quest, and therefore alhaitham had the house to himself

Kaveh returning to sumeru, back to alhaitham’s house, and therefore his key being present to take, is a premise explicitly linked with alhaitham’s happiness, and his general way of life - kaveh being present in alhaitham’s life IS the status quo which alhaitham wants to maintain, is the alternate reason behind “it’s reason enough”

Returning to camera angles, this is a little self-indulgent, but in alhaitham’s story quest, the deliberate choice to include kaveh in the frame when alhaitham mentions the importance of one keeping their priorities in check is interesting, not only in visual confirmation that, yes, kaveh IS one of alhaitham’s priorities, but also that it directly parallels the aforementioned scene in the archon quest with the frame “it’s reason enough”

In contrast to the “it’s reason enough” frame, alhaitham is outright expressing his multitude of priorities, which extends to beyond that of his job - with kaveh being explicitly in frame

This story quest scene ‘pride and prejudice’ literally mirrors the archon quest ‘a toast to victory’ in this regard, as in the latter, the camera angle focusses on the opposite side of alhaitham’s face, ensuring his eyes are covered as he makes allusions to more than one prospective motive, but in the former scene, the other side of alhaitham’s face is shown where his eyes are revealed and his words are less cryptic - solely because kaveh is in frame and can directly be linked to one of alhaitham’s motives, or priorities

Overall, kaveh is extremely important to alhaitham and the game tries every angle (literally) to convey this point. Alhaitham wants kaveh in his life, so much so that kaveh’s presence has become engrained with his “way of life” he seeks to maintain

being disrespectful to others? al-haitham won’t hesitate to become strict. 

sometimes when kaveh was staying over, he’d listen the architect telling your kid about the big palace he built once. 

he would be super caring and careful and absolutely would turn a 180 when he’s back at home from the akademiya and his work as the scribe, where he’s super serious and doesn’t let anyone distract him. 

when he’s at home though, he always makes sure his kid is his first priority and that his kid knows that 

but he would never, ever forget about you. once he bored your kid asleep with a goodnight story, he would finally come back to your bedroom, hugging you from behind and leaving soft kisses over your shoulder. 

he would tell you ever so often how much he loves you and how grateful he is for your small family together.

Pretty alright at Genius Invokation, so facing off against probably some of the few people he usually plays with shouldn't be difficult, no? Sure there are more people but who cares?

He found the strip aspect a bit questionable, yet agreed to it because it was intriguing and added an extra challenge.

He and Cyno are targeting each other (and Kaveh) the ENTIRE time. Boyfriend shit.

Tighnari keeps a good amount of clothes on but doesn't have the best poker face. Either his ears say it all or his expressions do.

Now if you were to make silly little teasing noises whenever he has to remove an item, he wouldn't be able to hold back a slightly embarrassed chuckle. His ears flatten and red can't help itself from creeping onto his face.

If it were indeed the case that you were teasing him, this man would target both you AND Cyno and then mock you with his usual snarky attitude when he finds you having to remove piece after piece of clothing.

If you become too intoxicated, he'll insist on bringing you back home or to wherever he is staying with the intent on taking care of you and that will not waver, he'll just tell you to pipe down and rest if you try to come onto him in this state.

Targets everyone strategically, but can't resist going for you, Tighnari, or Kaveh. Your reactions are priceless.

Of course, nothing with Cyno would be complete if he weren't making his signature jokes every so often. Except it's only partially to make people laugh. He uses it to throw people off and distract them with his humor so they can make stupid moves.

"You know (y/n), you're talking a lot for someone with low HP on your last card-" Cyno, about to use his Cyno card's ult on your last surviving active card.

Even though his face seems so stone cold and focused, his eyes do still wander. He's literally just "nice" and then snaps back into seriousness.

It'd be arguably more appealing to him if you beat him, but it's clear that he's trashing the WHOLE table right now.

"Sorry, can't hear you over my full row of omnidice."

Cyno ALSO doesn't drink during any of this. At all. He is fully cognizant and aware that he is kicking everyone's ass.

He thoroughly enjoys seeing Alhaitham's frustrated expression, hearing Kaveh's whining, and hearing Tighnari sigh in defeat.

He also thoroughly enjoys seeing more skin from you. He tries not to be too cruel toward you, but he must admit that this is very fun for him.

"I know about your little scheme, (y/n). Come with me." - Cyno, about to cuddle the crap outta you. Bro is tired from beating you all.

Alhaitham didn't care about the whole strip part because he knew he wouldn't fully have to. Not only that, but he disregarded the idea because its been a while since they all got together like this anyway, so why not?

Only really loses his earphones, I think he probably took off his coat when he sat down just to get comfortable.

He and Cyno are the CEOs of having a poker face.

Knew about your plan before you even had a full-fledged plan, and didn't plan on trying to win to begin with.

Absolutely targets mainly Kaveh. His whining may be annoying but it's funny seeing him act all defeated and dramatic. I cannot stress this enough. He is absolutely WRECKING Kaveh. I mean, everyone is, but especially Alhaitham. It's entirely obvious.

"Oh well, Kaveh. Seems like you lost again. Another piece of your dignity stripped from you." - The voice of a man who just hatecrimed his roommate. Again.

Alhaitham been drinking, watch his attitude amplify. Prepare yourself.

Finds the fact that you're self-assured yet keep getting attacked amusing. It's almost like you wanted all of them to see your more intimate form. Almost as if you're not really trying.

Pays no mind to any skin you're showing for the entirety of the game and stays silent most of the time unless he's either drunk or mocking someone knowing he is going to/already has destroyed them.

Uses randomly selected cards and still manages to wreak havoc.

By the bye, this man is totally WASTED for half the game. His alcohol tolerance is pretty low for someone who regularly enjoys it.

I'd say it's a stretch to claim that he unilaterally doesn't care about anyone else.

That said, I don't believe it's inaccurate to say Alhaitham is selfish, either.

Alhaitham possesses an intriguing brand of selfishness that's calculated, realistic, and almost paradoxically self-aware. He knows his capabilities and limitations, and doesn't overextend or commit himself to something he knows is outside those capabilities. It's not as much of a stretch to say he possesses "an extraordinary sense of individualism" (again, Kaveh's words). He's certainly very strategic and logical, and, by some social conventions, can come off as callous or even cold.

He must pay attention to or care about others to some degree, or else he wouldn't bother correcting their errors when he encounters them. At the same time, forging genuine, trusting relationships (rather than purely transactional ones) with others when the opportunity arises is undeniably beneficial to him in many cases, regardless of the motivation behind doing so--hence the courtesies he extends to the Traveler in Port Ormos and afterwards, and his collaboration with the other major characters in the Sumeru Archon Quest storyline. He can't afford to not care about or pay attention to other people at all, because he can't ensure his own safety and comfort purely through his own accomplishments--not all the time, anyway.

While it's clear that his own well-being is a high priority for him, I don't believe he's so foolish as to presume that it's his only priority.

genshin men relaxing on a day off - kaeya, thoma, ayato, childe, neuvillette, kaveh

spoilers for 4.2 archon quest and kaveh hangout.

Kaeya is often kept quite busy with paperwork, and with helping lessen the burden of the acting grandmaster. days off for him aren’t common, so he finds himself catching up with acquaintances, often times over a drink at angel’s share or a meal at good hunter. of course, he drinks a lot of wine during this time, so the other knights know that if the calvary captain has a day off, he’ll be late to work the next day.

Thoma is usually occupied with housework or with helping others around the city. when he’s given some time off, he likes to have hotpot at komore teahouse, catch up with friends and give snacks and treats to the little animals he sees while out and about. when the months start to get colder, he willingly knits tiny sweaters and scarfs for his animal friends, even making a sweater for taroumaru.

Ayato is a very busy man. being the head of the kamisato clan means near constant work, so it’s extremely rare that he gets a break. if he does get a day off, you can thank Ayaka for that, she sees how hard he brother works and so takes over his responsibilities for some time while he rests. he spends this time visiting his favourite boba stand, and sampling some food served on the streets of inazuma city.

Childe may not be an office worker, but he spends his work time training or scheming for the fatui. when he has time off, he loves to fish, specifically ice fishing. of course, when his main mission is complete, he keeps his promise and returns to his family in snezhnaya. with gifts in tow, he spends precious time with his loved ones and enjoys his time away from work.

Neuvillette is a man devout to work. being the iudex, leader of the marechaussee phantom and the hydro sovereign means he practically never has time to spare for breaks. if he ever has a short time to spare, he enjoys water tasting and visiting the melusines. when he does, he often brings them small treats from a local bakery, though this is quite rare because of his work. the melusines very much look forward to seeing their father whenever he is free.

Kaveh regularly has both new and returning clients, and so has many priority commissions to work on. this leaves him working late at night, much to the dismay of alhaitham. whenever he’s finished with the most pressing commissions, he takes some well-earned time off. with this time, he usually drinks his sorrows away at lambad’s tavern, opting to drown in wine rather than his debts. at times, though, he instead wants to spend his free time surrounded by love from his friends. he seldom plans it, instead hinting that he wants to get together but saying he has a day off soon. while he might not get drunk, he knows in his heart that dinner with friends is the best way to spend his time away from the stress of work.
