“i can’t believe it smudged again!” you spoke angrily at your nail.

just like always, riki came over to your place after school and you decided to paint your nails, since tomorrow you’ll be going to his family’s place for dinner; so, eventually, you wanted to look presentable.

riki always assured you that whatever you wear or look, you’ll always look stunning, afraid that you were just taking care of yourself to pleasure others. however, you told him you wanted to look good either way, which he smiled and nodded.

well, as i mentioned, you were painting your nails, and you usually would go for an appointment at the nail salon or something, but your manicurist couldn't fit you into a certain schedule.

with that, you were trying to make it perfect just like fresh from the salon, but why no one told you how hard it was to paint the right hand nails?

your hand was shaky every time you tried to get the nail polish tip close to your nail surface, and the nail polish always ended up horribly applied; and don’t even get me started with the skipped nail art on the right hand.

hearing your struggled and rage over the not identified activity, he decided to flash his head at you.

“what happened, bubs?” he called you.

“you wouldn’t understand.” you simply answered, attempting to get your index finger right for the hundred time.

“bet! i have sisters, baby~” he got up from your bed and scooched over you at your desk, where you were sat on a chair. “is that…” he thought for a second, gaining your attention. “nail something?”

“nail polish.” you answered, kinda annoyed, but surely not with him.

“yeah, that. what happened then? i can hear your inside screams every time you try to apply whatever this is.” he shrugged.

“it’s just!” you sighed, trying to not actually scream, shutting your eyes. “i’m so frustrated and irritated; annoyed and… it’s just, ugh.”

“can i help you somehow?” he was carefully rubbing your back.

“i dunno.” you shrugged under his touch, almost crying.

“but why are you struggling so much, bae?” riki murmured, trying to calm you down.

“because every time i try to paint my right nails i fuck it up! literally every fuckin-“

“it’s okay, baby.” he pulled you for a hug.

“i’m being dramatic, sorry-”

“shh… i’ll help you; did you just forget you have an amazing ‘bee eff?’” he playfully said, continuously to rub your back.

“oh… you almost made me forget about that, but can my ‘bee eff’ paint my nails?” you challenged, shaking off the stressed you were feeling two minutes ago.

“i’ve learned harder things anyway.” your boyfriend took a chair and sat by your side. “so, what colour are we working with, ma’am?” he spoke with a funny tone.

“black nail polish.” you answered laughing.

“is that your boyfriend’s favorite colour, girl?” he tried to cheer you up by acting like an real manicure that he attended with you many times.

“yeah.”

“yeah? your boyfriend must be really boring, isn’t he?” he rolled his eyes playfully and you shook your head.

“he is not.” you pouted watching your boyfriend play with your right hand. “he is really cool and handsome,” you could see the smirk growing on riki’s face. “even though he is annoying sometimes.”

“i am not annoying.” he broke the character to complain.

“okay, you’re not.” this was your turn to roll your eyes back.

“anyways, teach me how to do this thing.”

“i thought you were the manicure here.” you joked, cocking a brow at him.

“jokes on you, i’m not a genie; YET!” you chuckled.

“whatever,” you shrugged. “just apply the nail polish onto the nail and then attach a piece of cotton to that stick there, saw it?” he nodded. “and then dunk the cotton on acetone and wipe the smudges spots and corners.”

“that’s it?” you hummed, nodding. “alright, i can do it for you, my baby.” smiling, you nodded once again.

“thank you.”

“no probs.” he began to work.

you couldn’t just ignore how careful he was touching your hands, like you we’re a fragile doll; or how attractive he looked while focused: his lips forming a gap and his hair almost falling down on his eyesight.

you also noticed how riki wasn’t even flinching or shaking while painting your nails, and you we’re just admiring his “ability”.

“how is it?” he asked after removing the smudge corners of the first nail he has finished.

“it’s not bad.” you complimented him in a mediocre manner, eyeing his reaction.

“‘not bad?’” he pretended to cry, but laughing right after, keeping up with the rest of the nails.

“it’s perfect, ‘ki. i love it~” you noticed his shy smile and the ‘thank you’ whisper.

“does your friend’s boyfriend paint their nails?” he teased you.

“i don’t think so.” you shrugged.

“so appreciate your boyfriend’s dedication; i’ve never done this before.” riki clumsily laughed, making you laugh as well.

almost thirty minutes passed by and riki finished, — which it was pretty fast — but begged you to close your eyes two minutes before he could finish his work even though it was a very simple colour and work, but you did closed your eyes.

“are you ready to see your nails?” he hid his excitement.

“yessir!”

“open your eyes then.” you could imagine his proud grin behind your closed eyes.

“i’m so excited.” you slowly began to open your eyes. “oh my- hey! you did me so dirty! yours are so much better.” you chuckled.

“i know; i know.” riki laughed with you, placing a smooch on your cheek. “you’re so pretty.”

“i love you and thanks baby.” you brightly smiled.

“no probs, my girl.” and then he kissed your lips.

the next thing you can remember from the next day’s dinner at your boyfriend’s house was you and konon casually talking and ending up having an whole convo about riki and laughing at how cute and dedicated he was to make you feel better and prettier, even painting your nails like a pro — which your sister-in-law would tease him later but she also find all of that cute asf.

Behind The OC Name

OKAY. I'm gonna turn into a bachelor of yappology here so bear with me ☝️🤓

🌹 Charlotte 'Jade' Le Jardin 🌹

Initially, I wanted to name her 'Roxanne'. Some of you might know this, but Jade used to be my original story's main character called Louisa. BUT, Louisa's initial name was Roxanne. I didn't know why, but elementary school me liked Roxanne so much (I didn't even know that it's also a song title by The Police back then HAHAH). I wanted a very recognizable name, but I think it was a bit much, so I switched to Charlotte because of Charlotte Bronte, the writer. Also, it turns out that 'Charlotte' means 'free man', it's pretty cool since Jade's story is mainly about breaking free from MI6's influence and shackles along with her parents. Meanwhile, Le Jardin was the result of Jade's family's occupation as a florist. I mean, it's a fake last name anyway as they were making an entirely new identity after escaping from MI6.

Jade was literally just because she had a green eyes, but I felt it's too cliche so I made an entirely new black division of MI6 where each agent is named of a type of ore/jewel. Plus, Jade is just easy to pronounce and recognizable, perfect for communication purpose!

🐞 Eleanor 'Ladybug' Graham 🐞

Eleanor's name came up just out of the blue from my mind. I drew Lady's design first, and then decided to make a name for her, and it's either Eleanor or Claudia, and I thought Claudia doesn't suit her at all, so I stayed with Eleanor. Eleanor means 'Light-hearted' or 'shining light', kind of goes along with her 'take-it-easy' attitude and how she's a medic and becomes the light of hope for the wounded. The surname Graham is literally just my obsession with Will Graham from Hannibal. My 14-16 year old ahh was obsessed with NBC Hannibal, and Will held a special place in my heart LOL.

When I created Ladybug, I knew I wanted a special and a cheeky callsign for her to pair with Gaz. I never really liked bugs, but I thought back then that a ladybug's shape and pattern is so damn cute and endearingly silly. So I just went with Ladybug. AND THEN, The NFC Championship 2023 game happened between 49ers vs Lions. Brandon Aiyuk caught a pass from Brock Purdy after the ball straight up bounced from Kindle Vildor's helmet, which resulted in a touchdown in the next play. At the interview post game, Aiyuk said "a ladybug landed on my shoe." JUST THEN I KNEW THAT LADYBUG MEANS 'GOOD LUCK'. And then the gears on my brain turned, and I can connect with how Gaz is always unfortunately hanging/falling from an aircraft, be it an airplane or a helicopter. The fact that he's always came out ALIVE after those events just tell me, there's gotta be a ladybug that's always with him 24/7!

🔥 Barandos 'Bara' Tarigan 🔥

For Bara, I just KNOW that his name's gotta be Bara because there's a celebrity chef from Indonesia called Bara Patirajawane, and it's such a sick name that I just had to make it into a name of my OC HAHAH. Bara also means 'fire embers' and it's pretty cool ngl. Tarigan is a Batak tribe surname (I'm half Batak from my name), so I just wanna have that element on my OC.

⏳ Silja Freyrsdottir ⏳

For Silja, I actually had quite a hardtime to name my OC. I didn't know what her appeareance yet, her story yet, and like what her role was in the God of War Ragnarok storyline. So I started to think of what goddess she was, and I wanted it to be close to Heimdall, so the Goddess of Memory and Remembrance it was. I then searched for that kind of god in the Norse mythology, and I didn't really find anyone that came close to what I imagined, so I just started from sratch. I sketched her character, and as I draw her I make up a story in my mind. Oh, she's an adventurer, a rogue princess, hmmm from what realm, Alfheim? Let's do that cuz I love Freyr. I wanted her name to be either 'Silja' which ironically means 'blind', or Ragnhild, which means 'battlecounsel'. QUICKLY I feel that Ragnhild sounded to professional for her adventurous character. Silja sounded so right, and her name could be like a contradiction to what her ability is, which is seeing people's pasts, but blind to the present (a flaw much like Heimdall's).

Yoshikazu Miyano:

A fudanshi who bonds with his senpai over BL. Sasaski actually fell for and confessed to Miyano first but Miyano is took his confession very seriously and made sure to sort his own feelings out before giving a proper response (which took like a year lol) beause he didn't want to be careless with Sasaki's feelings.

Jiang Cheng:

Clinged to WWX constantly for 7+ years, wanted to have WWX as his right hand man forever after becoming sect leader, cried after WWX left, cried when he discovered what WWX sacrificed for him, was TORN APART when it got explained to him that if they were more outwardly close knit, WWX might not have died

to start with. jiang cheng is literally the picture of "i knew from the moment i met you that i'd spend a lifetime forgiving you".

the earliest dynamic of jiang cheng and wei wuxian is jiang cheng giving away his dogs (the only gift his father has ever given him, btw) because wei wuxian is scared of the dogs. tis only the start of it.

his father very obviously prefers his shixiong over him, his mother berates him for not being as good as wei wuxian and tells him his inheritance is in danger, and his sister (in my opinion) has more care for him (visibly. maybe jiang yanli doesn't show it because jc is an emotionally complicated purple grape, maybe because jc doesn't need it, or wei wuxian is traumatised but that's my opinion). but still. still. 'eric is a pacifist' 'i thought he was jewish?' like come on #text post #i have been rewatching drake and josh recently and i have had so many thoughts #im almost done. i just have left that stupid dance episode that they premiered last for the stupid reason #of a special dance-themed premiere night in fall 2007. they premiered the third episode of icarly and a new zoey 101 on the same night #which i think is so stupid. they should've aired really big shrimp last. it messed w my understanding of the series at the time lol #i remember not really knowing that the show was ENDING. like i knew icarly was starting & miranda was doing that #i thought really big shrimp was like just another special like go hollywood. #and then like two days later they premiered the helicopter episode for some reason #and i was like why is drake not famous in this. he just had a number 1 song in a superbowl commercial #and then a month later the dance one. which. if anything is satisfying about that as a final episode it's just that #that unnamed girl from the blues brothers episode who is obsessed w drake shows up again and congratulates them #and the very final line of the series is 'who is she?' because. because really who IS she? #that's a funny enough throwback to wrap things up with i suppose #drake and josh wasn't a highly serialized show so i can see how they could air those after the intended finale and act like it didn't matte #but i have to tell you it did fuck with my brain a bit at the time. lol. i still think of those episodes as having 'happened' after #and on paramount plus those episodes are still placed after really big shrimp. the injustice #but thats kinda messy. what a weird way to end such an influential and popular sitcom #season 4 had a few lowpoints while still also having some VERY solid episodes. #idk. ill have to continue my series review another time im getting way too longwinded here #helen dubois is jewish

to be like frank here, redemption is an ever going cycle. when youve been the problem, the toxic ex, the abuser, you have to know you will have to apologize for that for the rest of your life. you will always have to live with the guilt and conscience of knowing how you hurt that person, or mutliple people. and you have to constantly CHOOSE to not repeat that behavior, and its not easy.

when you meet a new friend the topic of who you used to be will come up eventually, and if you have changed youll be honest with who you were. you cant run from it. you cant try to round the corners and make it seem like the other persons fault, or like it wasnt as bad as it was. its really really scary. because everytime you open up about it, its not just the wound of guilt but its also the fear that theyre going to look inside and not like what theyll see.

but you have to keep moving on and you have to keep being honest. and you have to remember that everyone is applicaple for redemption, you just have to work for it and admitting you were wrong with no buts is the first step.

now that I've finished: I enjoyed shb. not as much as I did hw, but I quite liked the msq (with the couple of quibbles that I've mentioned). post-patches I felt suffered from similar problems as hw's did, as in they wrapped up everything and then very quickly and suddenly pivoted to new expac content in a way that didn't feel suuuper natural, but I also think to an extent that's also an MMO curse. with a larger available scope I would've preferred a more natural lead-in, but what can you do.

I'm not sure how I feel abt the heavy focus on zenos and fandaniel, zenos has never been that much of an interesting character to me (stb didn't handle him and what he represents well, and imo he doesn't get more interesting as he keeps appearing) and characters who are written as 'well he's cRaZy so we don't have to explain his motives or erratic behaviour' like fandaniel I find inherently uninteresting. plus I just hate it every second he's on screen HBFSBJ

I wish the grand company of eorzea stuff was the conclusion to a long, real attempt at making amends rather than smth wrapped up as a loose end in two or three patches; feels disingenuous, in a way. I also wish they'd actually leaned with the theming of 'the wol has friends who genuinely care for them and feel genuine remorse for the things they put them through for the sake of others', shb msq's back-half was all about how everyone gambles with your life and how the wol is a tool and how shitty this is (to an extent, at least; one of my bigger quibbles with g'raha is how he's consistently framed as justified for manipulating you and directly playing with your life), but as it stands as soon as you're cured of the lightwarden stuff everything goes back to you feeling like a secondary background player with no outstanding trauma in the post-patches, being told where to go and what to do.

on that similar note, I have strong feelings on g'raha and most of them lean negative. I'm not going to clutter this post with unnecessary character hate that's biased by my own wol's writing (unless like. you want me to), but a lot of my feelings abt him from shb msq haven't really changed.

otherwise I quite liked a lot of the worldbuilding and historical sections, I do think those were well done. the norvrandt goodbye genuinely got me, and I actually really liked elidibus' sections. I miss ryne already

HDS lecture a while ago that i didnt agree with 100% btu the interesting point was how almost every like cultural appropriation trend in religion was disseminated basically as a sale between two culturally xtian white ppl. trends like yoga and sweat lodges are almost never arbitrated by people from the groups who originated them. i think its very different if you’re like interacting with a person/group of minority ethnic/religious people & experiencing their culture through them in which they have the power to define boundaries and tell their own story vs if youre trying to like laser-cut out culture and like take it for your own. its notable that a lot of the cultural appropriation that really makes us grimace the hardest is when its something which has been forcibly divorced from its cultural context. having ur culture taken from u and misrepresented and sold for someone elses profit is very different from feeling that its valuable and desirable and ppl are excited and grateful for u to give them the opportunity to experience it. ppl and culture are inseparable n trying to separate them is an inherently violent act <3

amphibia ending.... 😭😭😭 spoiler-y talk (mostly sashannarcy, the ot3) under the cut

the extended credits and post-credits scene. i wish i was able to see the extended credits after i finished watching the broadcast of it because it changes how i was thinking about the trio at the end

in my initial thoughts i was like. though it’s hard to see that they fell into other friend circles, it’s still obvious that they were friends, kept in touch, and were meeting up for anne’s birthday and stuff so. tbh it made sense (also especially with them going to high school (where one would usually change up friend circles and grow and change more) and with marcy moving away) and i could see how they would still grow into their own people, just not in the exact same tight-knit dynamic as before

it also makes sense to me as someone who’s maintained long distance friendships with people :’) and how friendships can look different and change, but it doesn’t change that we care about each other still, etc.

but with the post-credits scene... now i’m thinking more about how. in friend trios, sometimes it’s just... not the same to hang out when one of the three are missing, so now my hc is more that sashannarcy kept up a group chat and stuff constantly, or as much as they could as they got busier over time, but that’s also how/why sasha and anne (and marcy, wherever she moved to) made other friends outside of just their trio and hung out more (irl) in other circles

and they just don’t get as many opportunities to see each other in person and really catch up - maybe the last time was a few years ago by then?? and now they’re old enough to have a drink together and just catch up 😭😭🥺 and also get together b/c they’re in love, (like them having other friends outside of just them is a Good thing imo, and esp nice in the sense of. giving them a “i like my friends, but i like my childhood best friends that i’ve been through [all of amphibia] with together in a different way”)

i knew they were keeping it open-ended (with the trio) from that interview, but tbh. they did a good job of making it open-ended in a hopeful way? like there’s room for imagining a future ot3 without having to rewrite canon (since ppl can imagine and ship however, generally lol, with canon or not), and they give some nice hints with just. everything (like ig some of it was them not wanting to ruin how shippers see things (for pairs) but as a trio.... chefs kiss)

so ultimately. thinking about amphibia. lots of nice thoughts and reflections about just. friendships, in general (i’ve thought semi-recently about how i have a lot of friendship trios), and on growth and change and how friendships and relationships with other people change over time; the journey of self-love with anne; found family...

and also a great ot3 for me to revolve in my brain. i feel like i don’t often have ot3s but sashannarcy are truly. really well done imo. you can really feel how much the girls all care about each other, even through it all 😭🥺 (besides being a ship that has it all: friends to enemies to friends (to lovers), sword fighting each other, changing for the better because of the other, believing in the others and them being your light in the darkness.... caters to me and my tastes specifically actually)

it’s also nice to see how the others are doing in amphibia, even if v bittersweet knowing that anne and sasha and marcy can never go back or really get to see how they’re all doing (though there was technically a very small portal that one time, so tbh maybe it doesn’t have to be completely out of the question to get some little updates here and there, one day)

also yulivia canon :’) but rip to grimepop (LOL) (though unironically i think it’d be interesting to see sylvia and hop pop and grime interact as another trio, but that’s neither here nor there) (also how we had the divorce trio. lots of trios in amphibia and imo it’s quite purposeful, at least in the case of the divorce trio (trio gone wrong) vs sashannarcy (trio that doesn’t go wrong))

man. i want to rewatch it so i don’t have to deal with commercial breaks (they felt. So Long. and also v mood-breaking) but i don’t feel like i’m ready to rewatch it yet LOL. at least by the time i get around to rewatching it, the extended post-credits should be included in the video, which imo is just. the best way to end it all

the leitmotifs of all the girls was like. everything i wanted to hear (some kind of medley that goes through all the girls’ leitmotifs together), and then the very ending shot........... :’))))))) man. man

the handholding. the blushes. drinks together. taking a new polaroid. the heart. anne has two hands. yea .

i also love seeing some of the crew’s doodles and fanart (now that they can share ones related to the finale) and like. the description of them being messy and in love is just. yeah. LOL. them

as an aside. i rewatched the whole show leading up to the last two eps, and man, you can really feel the difference in how anne was at the beginning to where she is now 😭 her growth... also tbh. lots of fun to see all the references they made and have a little mental check of like, where they are then vs now

amphibia as a whole is just more lighthearted, and more humorous (compared to TOH), but for me it just. really stuck the themes of growth and change and friendship, taking it in as a whole/thinking about it after the finale (even if a part of those thoughts are me thinking about sashannarcy eventually getting together and figuring that out haha)
