A lot of horror podcast titles follow patterns:
--Hello From The Hallowoods vs Welcome to Nightvale
--The Sheridan Tapes vs The Cellar Letters vs The Magnus Archives vs The Night Post vs The Author's Anathema vs The Aberrant Report
--Archive 81 vs Wolf 359
But I've also noticed our covers are all surprisingly different...

I made a ao3 story based off of the daycare au! It will be mostly just different moments in the daycare thing and you all can still ask things or request art!
So far only the first chapter has been posted and it'll probably be on a bi weekly or once weekly schedule, unless I don't have self control.

Y'all I did a complete fucky wucky last night, I was so side tracked by shit in my personal life and it got me sad as fUCK, and I consumed the adult fun time drinks, and then I fucking deleted the 54 page one shot I was working on, pERMANENTLY, bc drunk me thought it was a fantabulous idea to clean out old files, WITHOUT CHECKING THEM, I am now... Rewriting things, but honestly, I had dealt the biggest L upon myself,,,

I’m kinda sick rn, but I had a thought. (Holy shit, it’s a miracle!)
If Welcome to Night Vale was a book (I’m aware that there are Night Vale books, but I mean if it started out as a book.), and if that book got popular, I have no doubt that it would go on banned booklists all over the south.

I'm just showing off my hoard of books I brought back from college. this really does explain my personality though, cause half of these are from middle school and they still are my favorite books enough for me to drag them to college and back.

Most of the Goncharov posts getting to my feed recently are more and more its people doing meta posts about the phenomena of Goncharov posting rather than actually doing Goncharov posting. Which I can’t help but think is gonna really slow the momentum of the actual thing.

Lonely: Slugpelt (Pinepaw and the Forgotten World) "she is lonely--her mother was cruel, favoring her brother rainhaze whilst treating her like shit, and the group where she lives is very isolated. also her boyfriend left her to raise her kids alone
she spreads loneliness--while she is less of an antagonist and more of a tragic hero in her own right (and she's at least trying to get better), she does somewhat pass her loneliness down to her kids, being... rather neglectful and barely connecting with them (generational cycles of abuse are somewhat of a. theme in patfw). the comic's author, Raz, is also a big tma fan and has explicitly described her as Lonely-aligned."
Eye: Cecil Palmer (Welcome to Night Vale) "I know he won last time, but I honestly think he deserves it. He is seemingly all knowing about current events in the town and sometimes reports them in a similar way to fear statements. I don't pay enough attention to all the lore to know exactly how he knows all the goings-on all the time, so it seems spooky to me. Though there is no canon description of him having a third eye he is often depicted with one, and a huge eye is a part of the logo. Being watched is also a theme throughout Nightvale, with the government agents who are always outside your house, or the faceless old woman who secretly lives in your home"

I'm so happy to have discovered "My two cents PLUS TAX" by @geezerflakes ! It's truly a hidden gem of a web comic, I don't know when was the last time I read something this funny And the world gives me this slight Welcome to Nightvale vibes type of feel and humor, consider checking it out on Webtoon! I want to do more fan art once in a while about web comics, little independent authors deserve so much the visibility, there is so much hard work and passion behind these type of small creators and I wish there was more hype and community around them and not just on big media

HEY DO YOU LISTEN TO PODCASTS?? I have a question
Sorry for screaming, but do please imagine it was me grabbing you by the collar and dragging you into this dark room.
Anyways, so I have a question as someone who is looking to start writing;
Podcasts like the Magnus archives, welcome to nightvale, camp here and there, etc; the descriptions are very brief if there at all. I see as a fandom we usually come to a conclusion of what we imagine in our minds but those seem to be primarily a fan decision not one made by the creators
Do you LIKE this? Do you prefer that creators leave these decisions up to the listener and they form their own looks or do you prefer the author to tell you what they had envisioned?
Cause on one hand it seems very fun to let artists have full creative freedom, but I also see the double edged sword of: people who go outside the “Decided Look” can get harassed for it. Also there’s the side effect of people new to something may go in already thinking that the fandom designs ARE canon, much like I did when getting into TMA. I thought somewhere Jon must be described because how is EVERYONE doing the same thing even down to the white hairs?
But also people will get harassed the other way, where if anyone goes outside the canon; they’re “wrong” and purists don’t like that.
So what do you as a listener and consumer prefer? Do you like nothing, maybe some hints and little ideas, or do you WANT to know what a character looks like This Is Canon?
I would very much appreciate the input cause….well yall are the kind of people I would like to present my works to and I’m kinda lost on it tbh. I don’t even know my own opinion but I guess I like a static image in my mind. I like knowing what the creator envisioned but also being able to tweak it slightly. I feel when I draw a character that doesn’t have a set design I feel like I’m doing something wrong- like when I drew Sydney
Okay I’ll stop rambling, you can leave: but do please give your insight! Have a great day!!

For any fic recs for you, have you read Draco From The Wireless Show? I enjoyed that one. What sort of fics would you like to get recced?
Tumblr media
Draco From The Wireless Show by @fanarthasmyheart (34,299 words, rated T)
Auror Harry gets transferred into a small town to investigate "suspicious activity" that none of the citizens want to talk about. Then, his wizarding wireless picks up on a local news show, and its host is... very flattering about Harry.
Thank you to the Anon that sen this LOVELY recommendation! I know it took me a while to get back to it, but I still appreciate that you reached out and sent me a fic! And such a good one too!
I love this Draco, the way he talks about Harry on the wireless, the way Harry is immediately obsessed with hearing about himself talked about on the wireless. Draco's descriptions of the town's happenings are the perfect balance between suspicious and gossipy, and Harry's the perfect balance of suspicious and obsessed. The quirky absurdity of the whole situation and the underlying tension of what exactly is happening in this town keeps readers engaged and curious while Harry and Draco slowly dance around each other.
If you ever loved Welcome to Nightvale, you'll love this fic.
❤️ As always, if you find a fic you enjoy, please remember to leave the author a kudos or a comment! Or, send me an ask with your own rec! No promises it'll be featured, but I love to hear about what others are reading and enjoying.❤️
Lots of Love and Happy Friday!

you know, i enjoy being on this plane of reality. i really do. but, one of the regrets i have is that due to the way the nature of our world is set up, i won't get to hear what certain dead queer authors think about modern queer media. that might sound a little strange, but- i wish i could know what Oscar Wilde would think of Good Omens. I wish i could hear what Mary Shelley would think of Welcome to Nightvale. (bro i bet mary shelley would love welcome to night vale)
i just wish there was a way for me to pick their brains on the subject. the new representation and homoeroticism we have had in media in the last few decades... i wish i could just- get their opinions, even if they didn't like the stuff that was available, just to hear their thoughts would be absolutely fascinating. but, we can't. we can speculate, and we can joke, but all these brilliant queer writers who have gone before us, we can't hear from them about this. and i wish we could.

The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives In Your Home
The pitch: There is a Faceless Old Woman who secretly lives in your home. She's always there. But now, it's time to learn where she came from and how she ended up in the strange little desert community of Night Vale. It's a story of swashbuckling adventure, queer romance, thievery, skullduggery, betrayal, and, most importantly, revenge. For the Faceless Old Woman has been around for a very long time and she never forgets... or forgives.
While this book is set in the world of the podcast Welcome to Night Vale, it is absolutely NOT necessary to have ever listened to the podcast to enjoy it. The authors have gone out of their way to ensure this book is accessible to anyone, whether they're a Night Vale fan or not.
I’m shocked I took this pitch, rereading it ahahaha. I think it was a repitch and the original pitch was better? (hold on, I’m about to compliment the shit out of the book) If a pitch goes through, you can repitch and be automatically let through the next year if it doesn’t get drawn. Please Hold.
YEP THAT WAS IT HERE’S THE ORIGINAL PITCH
There is a faceless old woman who secretly lives in your home and for the first time, she's going to tell you where she came from and how she wound up in your home. It is a long globe-trotting journey involving swashbuckling, heroism, romance, and slow, but inevitable revenge.
I know you love the Count of Monte Cristo and this book is very much in that vein, as well as featuring some unique and intriguing characters throughout. There is mystery, double crosses, and some truly endearing and heartbreaking moments. Best of all, while the book is related to the "Welcome to Night Vale" podcast, it is absolutely NOT necessary to have listened to a single episode to enjoy the book. This is the story of a woman who has had an amazing and adventurous life and how her quest for revenge led her not only to Night Vale, but to the loss of her face and maybe even more than that.
I fucking L O V E CoMC and the pitcher knew that and this is a great example of how to use the things I love to help me find other things I might love. This is actually a great example of how you can pitch a book to me, that, I’m gonna tell you up front I had a fucking FABULOUS TIME READING--I finished it in one night, just gobbled it up--I would have taken in one way and not the other.
Non-spoilery review is just the pitch because truthfully it is VERY VERY hard to explain this book without spoiling it. That second pitch SLAPS and is all you need know (There’s a Jewish lesbian in the book but those of you looking for ‘queer romance’ are going to be disappointed, as it’s very much a side note to a character whose Jewishness is honestly more central and interesting. I loved it! It is the kind of thing *I* love, but if you are reading a book FOR that, you will come away disappointed)
Spoilers:
Fuck me running, okay, I expected to dislike this book. When i picked it up, I was like, “why, in the fuck, did I okay this? was I high?” mind you this is before I ever started reading just “From the authors of WELCOME TO NIGHTVALE” (a podcast I did not like at all) and “ALICE ISN’T DEAD” (A book I thought was blunt and hamfisted to the point of seeming to be written by talented teenager still learning about subtlety) comes A NEW STORY” I thought I had fucked myself over for reasons that I could not possibly understand, but I had bought the book and even used it was spendier than my usual and so I was like “FINE I GUESS UGH”
About 20 pages into it, I was super happy with my decision to read it. About 100 pages in, I was actually GLAD the storm had made my stream impossible because I knew I was going to finish this book out in one night.
This book hits on things I really love, and one of those things is revenge, and the nature of revenge, and what it does to a person, and what it makes us do to others. It has kind of a light touch, it wants to be kind of goofy about it sometimes, and those were actually the moments I thought it tripped, was when it was trying to be cutesy-comic-quirky about these very real things it was saying. Interestingly, when it was trying to be an arm of Welcome to Night Vale is when it failed for me, personally, basically.
She is so hellbent on her revenge that she refuses to pay attention to anything around her. There were so many times I screamed that she should be suspicious, that she should do a small amount of her own research, and the ending tells you that yes, the book WANTED you to be thinking that, though it was fine with you treating this like a stock fantasy/swashbuckle and believing everything the Substitute Father Figure said, only to be slapped by a mackerel in the face later. It all becomes about destroying the person who hurt her, and she’s swallowing poison the whole time hoping Edmond will eat her raw and die. It’s WILD.
I loved the scene with Albert where she literally cannot let herself let it go and be happy. The book is very very clear that this is not nobility, this is foolish stubbornness, this is continuing to cut open and reinfect a wound because healing feels like a betrayal. And not only does she ruin her own happiness, she ruins the happiness of her friends. She kills Andre, and Lora, and in fairness mostly inconveniences Rebekah deeply (who I loved and thought was a very very interesting character but I have already taken way more time on this review than I’m supposed to, so) because of her need for revenge, and she is outmaneuvered at every point, even to the end where Edmond dies peacefully surrounded by his family, while she’s a vengeful ghost of some kind.
And she continues to ruin her own fucking life. Death. Whatever. She continues to cut open the wound, loving every son, helping them, and then destroying them, and for what? It doesn’t seem to make her feel any better, it’s just a way of never letting her forgive herself for her father’s death but MORE IMPORTANTLY for the destruction she wrought on her friends and her own blind stupidity.
I fucking loved it. It buckled swash, it was about the power and idiocy of revenge, it was about what anger and hatred can meld us into and how it can destroy the beautiful things we ever were. This book sounds silly as shit when you look at the blurb and in fairness, yeah, I DO slightly wish it were in different hands that were not bound to a style of a podcast I find pretty eyerolling. But the themes are so fucking up my alley, the execution was largely solid, and I had a great time. Ate it the fuck up.
Will this get a rec asterisk? I don’t know! I think I liked it more than I think it is one of the highest quality things I read this year. Which isn’t to say I thought it was trash, I know trash and love trash, and I don’t think this was trash, but it wasn’t Great Circle. But it was a super fun example of the kind of thing *I* am looking for when I want a fun romp of a book.
thanks @notesfromtheidiotbox you hit it out of the park!

Thanks you so much @teigo-the-explorer for the tag! This makes a good break from work and/or chapter writing!
PART ONE
Are you named after anyone: I am not! Though fam did intentionally choose a name that couldn’t be shortened to a nickname or rhymed with anything.
when was the last time you cried? Yesterday when I was editing a sad section of my TRT outline to make it MORE sad, RIP me and all of you when we hit that point
do you have kids? Nope and I’ve gone so far as to have my tubes incinerated
do you use sarcasm a lot: NEVER
what's the first thing you notice about people? Whether they have a dog. But if you mean on their person, usually if they have a cool shirt! Bodywise: eyes.
what's your eye colour: Blue-green!
scary movies or happy endings: I like them both but if I HAD to choose I’d go happy endings
any special talents: According to my woodcarving teacher, I’m excellent at carving! I managed to carve 5 projects in a week on my first go, including a couple of the more difficult projects he’d set out for more experienced carvers. FINALLY, A VISUAL ART I’M GOOD AT. I’m also really good at just eyeballing a wall and figuring out how a bunch of hung frames will look good without having to draw it out!
where were you born? Los Angeles! It’s one reason I chose it for Ciro and Jane’s history in TRT - it meant I had to do less research since I was familiar with the area. I already knew a lot of landmarks, geography, culture, weather/environment, and speech patterns.
what are your hobbies?: woodcarving, reading, writing, video games, cooking, traveling whenever I can, movies and tv!
have any pets?: I do! 3 cats, 1 dog, and 1 snake!
what sports do you play/have played?: Oh god I tried a lot of them and my skills are... very much elsewhere. When I was a kid I tried soccer (fast but bad at kicking), ballet (teacher told my parents I had a future in the performing arts, just not dance), baseball (can’t hit a ball to save my life). I did have some success with horseback riding though! I did some trail and a little barrel racing for about ten years, and it is by far the most advanced I ever got with a sport.
how tall are you?: 5′5-5′6 depending on my anxiety level
favourite subject in school?: English, I loved English class.
dream job?: Due to health problems I’m a little limited in what I can do. If I was healthy, zoologist/marine biologist. As I am, author!
PART TWO
first ship: Oh god, uuuuh let me think. Loosely was probably April x Casey in TMNT since that was my favorite movie as a kid. First active ship that I openly rooted for... maybe Rogue and Gambit from X-Men TAS, like damn I was a kid but I WANTED them together SO FUCKING BAD like why is she hooked on fucking Scott (i hated scott) when she has Gambit RIGHT THERE, RIGHT FUCKING THERE GIRL.
three ships: Since most everyone knows my Marvel ships, I’ll step outside it and go with - Troi x Worf (Star Trek: TNG), Cecil x Carlos (most wholesome ship ever courtesy Welcome to Nightvale), and Leslie Knope x Ben Wyatt (Parks and Recreation)
last (current) song: Flu Game by Fall Out Boy not me playing this album on loop since it came out last week
last movie: San Andreas, don’t judge me
currently reading: Re-reading Taggerung by Brian Jacques, which is my favorite Redwall book and the first Redwall book I ever picked up! I was at a book fair and came around a corner and saw this FUCKING BADASS PIRATE OTTER??? WITH A KNIFE??? AND TATTOOS AND PIERCINGS, IT WAS SO COOL I PICKED IT UP WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE SUMMARY CAUSE WHO CARES, PIRATE OTTER PIRATE OTTER TINY PASTA WANTS TO READ ABOUT PIRATE OTTERSSSSSSSS SERIOUSLY LOOK AT THIS COVER AND TELL ME YOU WOULDN’T READ THIS
Tumblr media
currently watching: The Mandalorian, shiny space husband make brain go brrrrrr
currently consuming: Just water LOL
currently craving: SUNSHINE BUT IT IS CLOUDY
