S4 of NuWho sprinkling in more evidence that Tentoo was the only way Ten was going to get a happy ending

so last year i wrote a thing about ten and human vehicles [link] but in this recent watch through of NuWho i'm noticing some deep parallels between the different futures ten and tentoo end up having

more under the cut 'cause this got a little long

how different he treats Donna and Martha's families and how different those families treat him - he's not a part of the family at all, he's just seen as a danger and nothing more

the moms don't know where their daughters are bc Donna and Martha feel like they have to lie about who the doctor is and what they're doing with him

jackie tyler is literally tentoo's mother-in-law and even before him she was ten's mother-in-law but now tentoo has more family, he's got a father-in-law and baby brother-in-law and will have a daughter and (hopefully makes) friends he doesn't have to say goodbye to all the time

even just the different in other relationships he gets brief touches of

episode 6 the doctor's daughter, jenny who reminds me so much rose (the gymnastics, the tyler sass, the blonde hair) ten doesn't get to raise her, doesn't get to watch her grow up, doesn't get the chance to be a parent besides a few instances and then she (seemingly) dies in his arms! and he leaves with another hole in his chest

tentoo gets to experience all of it - gets to be there for the conception and watch her grow in rose; gets to be there for the birth; gets to raise his daughter and watch her grow up; it fills the hole his dead children left

episodes 8&9, the library episodes, foreshadowing that the doctor will have a wife, but while ten has to watch her die and never get the chance to know her let alone love her tentoo marries the woman he was literally created for and dreams about and knows so so so well

tentoo literally gets everything the universe takes away from ten and i fucking love it

i wish there were more multi chapter tenrose reunion fics that involve not only rose, martha, and donna becoming besties but also rose and donna teaming up to give ten a well-deserved dressing down about how he treated martha

i feel like esp in a lot of older fics that have martha and rose interacting, martha ends up being some sort of antagonist and that makes me so sad bc i think they would have been great friends.

the idea that tentoorose is “tenrose only” is actually insane. if it wasn’t for ninerose, tenrose wouldn’t have the impact it had, and neither would journey’s end. part of the beauty of the ending we got is that someone as lonely and broken as the ninth doctor ends up so incredibly happy. this man, who lost his people and his planet and survived a horrible, horrible war, learnt to love again.

Three ships: Hm, let's see… FakirxAhiru. I love Princess Tutu to death, and their pas de deux in the finale is just. Mwah. It has my heart forever. I really should do a re-watch of the series sometimes soon... I'm not really into Doctor Who anymore, but DoctorxRose had a grip on me for a good stretch of time, there, so I have to give it some credit. And… hm, well the one other ship I'd say I'm attached to I'll mention in the next question. It's not that I don't have other ships I enjoy - I have a lot of them - it's just that I sort of turned into a multi-shipper over the years, and will largely read whatever sounds interesting, doesn't squick me out, and I think will give me a good story.

First ever ship: Ahhh, this took me a while to remember, but I'm pretty sure it was LinkxMidna. I was so, so invested in them, and so unhappy with the ending of the game, haha. I've still got a really strong soft spot for them.

Last song: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Something from my Spotify likes that came on while I was driving? I haven't been listening to a ton of music this weekend.

Last movie: I saw Dune Pt2 with my Dad on Friday. <3 I never read them, but he really loves the books. It was fun to talk about our different points of view on the movie, based on that.

Currently reading: Uhhh… I've had Axiom's End on my bedside table for like a year now. I keep intending to read it, but… somehow never get around to it.

Currently watching: 2003 ninja turtles. I've been slowly working backwards through the tv series. Also people playing FFRebirth, since I don't have a PS5 to play it myself.

Currently consuming: Is this question meant to be… food? I'm supposed to be making chicken spaghetti tonight, but the motivation levels are low. Might eat cereal instead. :/

Currently craving: Thai food. Pad See Ew, I think. It's not cold enough today to go for Lad Na.

A few of these are close to being done, just need to cross that finish line and then make sure they’re exactly how I want and come up with titles before posting. Other ones have quite a ways to go.

Maybe I should find a cheerleader/motivator to check on me periodically to see how I’m doing. Not everyday, that’s a bit excessive, but every so often just check in and see if I’ve made progress on any of these fics. Not sure, though.

Hopefully I’ll make some good progress on longer/multi-chaptered fics this year.
