I'm not sure if you've seen it, but S3E1 of Lower Decks is hilarious to me because like

In literally any other work, having the overall message of the episode be "Trust in the system and the system will do it's job" would be naive at best and malicious at worst, but because the system in question is Starfleet, it's 100% permissible

I mean that's the whole basic conceit of Starfleet and the Federation, right - the whole midcentury modernist promise of the UN and the Great Society and the War on Poverty and Sputnik and Apollo, of a government that's actually fundamentally good and selfless and public-spirited, and really will do the right thing for everyone whenever it can.

(This is related to the fact that Star Trek is the one of exactly two series I've ever seen that had an episode about a faceless government ministry using Eminent Domain to force an irascible but kindhearted old man off his family farm for an infrastructure project that nonetheless came down firmly on the side of the infrastructure)

Anyway, I should really give Lower Decks another chance, huh? (I tried the first season a couple years back and just bounced off/ended up rewatching some Futurama instead, I think?)
