As the lecture hall filled with students scrambling to find a seat, Ushijima remained seated, his attention fixed on the flurry of activity around him.

Amidst the commotion, his keen eyes caught a glimpse of familiar silver hair darting through the crowd, searching anxiously for an available spot. Ushijima’s heart quickened its pace as recognition washed over him. It was Suga.

He watched as Suga frantically looked around, trying to find a seat before the lecture started. Many of the other alphas in the room kept their eyes on him, and some even nudged their friends to make room so they could offer the omega the seat next to them.

With only a few minutes remaining before the lecture commenced, Ushijima noticed the other alphas eyeing Suga, and he didn't like it. Deciding to take action, he offered the free seat next to him. His deep, resonant voice reverberated through the auditorium as he called out, "You can have the seat next to me."

Suga’s eyes widened in surprise as he turned towards Ushijima, his features painted with a mixture of relief and gratitude. He hurriedly made his way towards the vacant seat, expressing his thanks with a nod.

Ushijima nodded back, though internally his heart soared, realizing that the first crush he had ever harbored was now sitting just inches away from him and engaging in conversation.

Suga introduced himself, his voice laced with enthusiasm, “Hi. I’m Sugawara Koushi. Thank you for letting me sit next to you. I thought I was gonna have to sit closer to the back.”

Ushijima listened to Suga ramble attentively, trying to suppress the overwhelming excitement bubbling within him. The silver-haired omega’s radiant smile illuminated the space between them, captivating Ushijima in ways he couldn’t fully comprehend.

“You were on the Karasuno team, right?” Ushijima finally asked, his voice betraying a hint of awe.

"Yes, that's right," Suga replied with a modest smile. "I was a setter for the Karasuno team. I didn’t play much though. I’m surprised you knew who I was."

"Your skills on the court were impressive." Ushijima's admiration evident in his voice.

A small smile finds its way to Ushijima’s lips as he watches Suga’s eyes widen in surprise.

“Oh, thank you. Are you still playing-“

Their conversation was abruptly interrupted by the professor’s commanding voice, signaling the start of the lecture. Ushijima and Suga exchanged a glance, their connection momentarily severed, but a spark of anticipation lingered in their eyes.

Throughout the class, Ushijima couldn't help but steal glances at Suga. He observed the way Suga's amber eyes darted across his laptop, diligently taking notes. At one point, during the droning lecture of their professor, Suga looked up and met Ushijima's gaze, causing the alpha to quickly avert his eyes back to the front. He heard a small snicker from the shorter man.

The professor concluded his introduction, leaving the students buzzing with anticipation, “And that concludes today’s lecture. Now, for our semester-long project, I want each of you to find a partner to work with. It’s crucial to collaborate effectively to ensure success.”

Ushijima looks around the room, noticing the hungry gazes of other alphas fixated on Suga, their eyes filled with a desire to team up with the captivating omega.

Suga, feeling the attention from others, looked at Ushijima out the corner of his eyes with a smirk. “Oh, so many alphas seem eager to pair up with an omega. Who to choose…” He taps his chin looking around.

With a possessive glare, Ushijima made it clear that he wouldn’t tolerate anyone encroaching on what he had already claimed. He remained vigilant, ensuring that no unwanted approaches came Suga’s way. Ushijima’s protective instinct intensified, unwilling to let anything or anyone come between him and the opportunity to get closer to Suga.

As the lecture came to an end, Suga turned towards Ushijima, his eyes shining with a hint of coy playfulness. He asked the alpha, his voice slightly teasing, "Hey, Ushijima, do you want to be partners for the project? I understand if you’d like to work with someone else.” He finishes with a small pout.

Ushijima maintained his calm facade, nodding his head in agreement, while his insides churned with inner turmoil. As he looked at Suga's cute pout, he couldn't help but admire the omega's silver hair and the beauty mark under his left eye. The combination made Suga even more enchanting in Ushijima's eyes. Trying to quell the racing thoughts, he managed to say with a steady voice, "I do not mind, Sugawara." A small grin grew on Suga's face, causing Ushijima's heart to skip a beat, caught in the captivating pull of the omega's charm.

“Suga is fine.” Suga mischievous grin grew wider. He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice playfully, "You know, Ushijima, I have a feeling we'll have a lot of fun working together."

Ushijima tried to maintain his usual stoic expression, but internally, he panicked. Catching a small hint of Suga's cinnamon and sugar scent, his inner alpha yearned to inhale more, struggling to control his desires. The conflicting emotions intensified as he grappled with hiding the impact Suga's presence had on him.

“You and me, Ushijima-san, we’re going to kick everyone’s ass!” Suga exclaimed, his voice laced with determination and anticipation. Ushijima couldn’t help but be swept away by Suga’s infectious enthusiasm, a warmth spreading through his chest.

As the two of them discussed their schedules, Suga raised a concern about Ushijima’s demanding volleyball training schedule, wondering if he would have enough time to spare for the project.

Ushijima nodded assuredly, his determination unwavering. “I’ll make time in my schedule, Suga-san.”

Suga beamed at Ushijima’s commitment, rising from his seat with another bright smile. “I’ll see you on Thursday in the library, then!” he declared before swiftly rushing off to his next class, leaving Ushijima with a sense of anticipation and a lingering image of that radiant smile.

With each passing moment, Ushijima felt an unfamiliar eagerness building inside him, as he anticipated the next time he would see Suga again. This new emotion was weird, but a welcome change, filling him with excitement and anticipation for their upcoming meeting.
