Who would you cast as Charles?
Choosing out of the actors that currently famous (& not undiscovered talent), Sinqua Wallis could get the job done I think. He is also Afro-Native!

Modern Rdr2 hcs:
-Abigail dresses like it's the 2000s (I'm talking miniskirts, low rise jeans, heeled flip flops w the fucking sparkles). She will never change too.

-john has various tattoos, half of them are god awful. He definitely got Abigail's name or initials tattooed somewhere and she was livid
-Karen gives herself piercings with a really shitty piercing gun
-arthur and John work together in construction, an auto shop, or in the equestrian field.
-Dutch has a very rigid and lengthy skincare routine
-john uses 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner, but he says it's 3 in 1 bc it also counts as bodywash
-Tilly is the only one of her family to graduate college (Arthur dropped out of hs when Eliza got pregnant and john never went)
-Hosea is one of those old people you just see walking around the neighborhood at like 8am
-john and Arthur don't wear sunscreen or put on lotion. Abigail sometimes manages to force some sunscreen on John's face before he goes to work tho
-bill refuses to go to gay bars but uses Grindr
-Abigail cuts John and Jack's hair bc she refuses to pay for something she thinks she can do herself (she cannot do it herself)

-john owns a really shitty pick up truck. Jack was either conceived or birthed in the backseat of it (maybe both)
-Sean falls for those free iPhone scams every time
-the only videogame charles plays is stardew valley. He thought it would be relaxing, it wasn't.
-Tilly and Mary Beth are in a book club together
-Abigail is the type of parent to not let her kid play w nerf guns or watch pg13 movies (John is the exact opposite)
-Sadie spends her weekends at rage rooms
-everyone's fridges are covered in drawings Jack made for them
-John, Javier, and Sean game together. Violence always ensues
-dutch does not tip waiters
-john tried to play catch w Jack once and ended up getting hit in the groin by a baseball. He didn't know 4 yr olds could throw that hard
-Abigail and Karen (& sometimes Charles) drink cheap wine together every Sunday and discuss the dumb things their boyfriends did that week
-Lenny and Hosea do the wordle everyday
-Jack is in little league soccer. John sits back drinking a beer as Abigail shouts at the referee
-Abigail got a tramp stamp of a little bow when she was 17 (she regrets it)
-Hosea exclusively sends emails
-Abigail hides John's weed socks bc she doesn't want Jack to see and "fall into a life of drugs" when he's older
-Arthur is a hiking dad through and through. While John is a sit on the couch drinking a beer w his kid in his lap kinda dad
-uncle is the old drunk that lived in the same trailer park as Abigail and John did when Jack was a baby. He kinda just stuck around after
-Miss Molly O'Shea would be a makeup god and u cannot convince me otherwise
I might do a pt 2 late in the future!

Gossip
Tumblr media
Masterlist Word count: 550 Arthur Morgan x Fem!Reader
Summary: You know that John likes you. You know that Arthur likes you. They know about each other, but the others don't. Gossip spreads and, what feels like a ticking time bomb, turns out to be unconnected.
---------
'I don't think he knows,' Abigail says as she sits, knitting with Mary-Beth and Tilly while watching you and Arthur talk. John has gone out hunting with Charles to learn how to use a bow as he is useless with it. Arthur had asked Charles to do so but Abigail suspects he had other motives for getting John away from camp.  'I think he does,' Tilly argues with a grin, 'why else would he ask Charles? Everyone knows John is too impatient to learn how to use a bow.' She's got a point, Abigail figures.  Things had been weird ever since you joined the gang. Sadie had found you in Valentine and recognized you as an old friend. In fact, the friend who set her up with her husband. She told the others you seemed lost and needed some place where people have your back. Most were sceptical but your turned out to be a hard worker and a great hunter, bringing in huge game for the camp whenever you went out. Dutch had almost considered letting you take a wagon along so you could bring enough to sell it.  That great aim of yours also pulled in different attention. Both John and Arthur became more than smitten with your friendly and kind demeanour. Mary-Beth had suggested that Arthur liked you for your kindness and willingness to listen while John liked you for your viciousness and rough edges. Both great attributes that make you who you are.  'Well, either way, they're both fools,' Mary-Beth claims, ending the argument.  'Do you think she knows,' Tilly questions.  'For sure she knows,' Mary-Beth answers as all of them watch you gently touch Arthur's shoulder as he makes a joke not worthy of the laughter that comes out of you.  'She's really toying with them, ain't she,' Abigail grumbles. Despite liking you quite a bit, she fears what it might do to the gang if Arthur and John are pinned against each other. It's a bad predicament to be in and since the year that John left the gang is still a sore spot for Arthur, Abigail fears things might explode with the littlest of meddling. When her and John put an end to it, she was slightly relieved, but this is just insanity.
'Do you think they know,' Arthur questions you. You shake your head with a grin.  'No, they probably think I'm hopping between you two. They wouldn't be gossiping about us as much if they knew.'  'Fair point.' He puts a gentle hand on your waist to pull you closer and watches at the jaws drop across camp.  'Are you trying to rile them up, cowboy,' you tease as you take a step closer to him. He shrugs. You roll your eyes and press a kiss to his jaw. 'Come on, let's go join Charles and John.' Arthur looks over at the women once more as he leans towards you.  'If only they knew about Charles.' You shove him away with a laugh.  'Oh, stop it. I liked you better when you were still being shy about liking me.'

Ok, so
Ep 07x04 - Buck, bothered and bewildered
Possibly referring to the song
Bewitched, Bothered, And Bewildered by Ella Fitzgerald
Some lyrics:
Men are not a new sensation I've done pretty well I think But this half-pint imitation Put me on the blink
Lost my heart, but what of it He is cold I agree He can laugh, but I love it Although the laugh's on me
He's a fool and don't I know it But a fool can have his charms I'm in love and don't I show it Like a babe in arms
Love's the same old sad sensation Lately I've not slept a wink Since this half-pint imitation Put me on the blink
But I'm like sweet seventeen a lot
"Couldn't eat, was dyspeptic
Life was so hard to bear
Now my heart's antiseptic
Since you moved out of there
Romance, finis, your chance, finis
So this ep will be focused on Buck
We know he's - yet again- on a self discovery journey but - hopefully- finally reaching the turning point
This whole song is very much Buck like... "lost my heart but what for", "Love's the same old sad sensation", "but I'm like sweet 17 a lot"
That's one side of it
The other is being stunned and revived by someone
I'm wondering if he maybe has a bi re-awakening
Some guy he absolutely crushes on and only then does he realize that... Actually if I can have sex with guys, why not have a relationship with them... Maybe this will change something...
And he finally, very slowly, starts to realize something
Or
It's all just about Natalia and him realizing that it's not it and he was just a little bit bewitched
Cause the "bewitched" is missing in the title and that means that he's not anymore but now he's
Bothered - cause he fell into the same pattern like always
Bewildered - cause something is dawning on him
Still choosing a song with the line "Men are not a new sensation" is WILD
-
Episode 7x05 - You don't know me
Possibly referring to the song
You Don't Know Me by Ray Charles
To you, I'm just a friend That's all I've ever been No, you don't know me
I never knew the art of making love Though, my heart aches with love for you, yeah I'm afraid and shy, I let my chance go by A chance that you might love me too
You give your hand to me, and then, you say goodbye And then, I watched you walk away beside the lucky guy I know you'll never know the one who loved you so No, you don't know me
I mean this screams Eddie pov
If Buck does have a bi thing going on...
Eddie would possibly be like... Oh so it would've been a possibility after all?
But now I'm too late
And he obviously only ever saw me as a friend
I pray to all the TV gods this will result in a talk with either Karen or Maddie
Cause even though we all agree the man has already realized his feelings for Buck
If there was a bi thing... that would change his perspective
But he'd also be afraid
Thus a talk with either a competent queer person (who is not the 118) or someone who knows a side of Buck he doesn't and knows if that could actually still be a real possibility
But honestly that's just what I wish for myself here
Anyway
I think though that watching Buck with Natalia, it makes Eddie's heart ache and Marisol will just be another Ana... Just a way to do what's expected of him, what's right, what seems good
But also I feel the "You don't know me" directly relates to the "She sees me"
So I feel... Maybe something happens and - like always- Eddie is there and giving Buck exactly what he needs cause he knows and sees Buck
Maybe Buck makes a queer related joke... Something along the lines of...
Haha wouldn't it be easier if you liked guys, we could just date each other!...
and Eddie answers "I'm afraid, you don't know me that well"
Ok I'm venturing into fic inspo now
But I think the contrast of these two songs is so interesting and the way they relate to Buddie SO HARD
And I will not stop talking about that god damn "Men are not a new sensation" line
Anyways we all didn't want to clown again but I'm afraid the clown train is boarded and rolling and it's a party

oh hang on so Oliver Twist as a book is largely about child labor, right.
like the commonality between the workhouse, the abusive apprenticeship, and the pickpocket gang is that Oliver is being exploited. for his labor. and Fagin's gang while crossing the line into illegality and therefore in some ways the most dangerous is also the most pleasant of the three.
and ofc which i have underconsidered until now, child labor was fully legal at the time and a major political issue--the 1833 Factory Act had only just recently outlawed employing under-nines on the factory floor, or working 9-13 year olds more than 9 hours a day, and 13-18 year olds more than 12.
it was a struggle to enforce and it was controversial.
so. Fagin's gang replicates that factory owner-child laborer relationship on a tiny, illicit scale, where the kids are taking all the risks and doing all the work and he's getting most of the profit, and it's not fair, but oh he's giving them food and a place to sleep and wouldn't they be worse off without him? (they would is the thing. but does that make it okay?)
with the goal of this being that next time Dickens' milquetoast middle-class readers encountered an argument for the benevolence of a guy employing child labor to maximize his profits they might go, hey! that's not true, he's just like that crook Fagin!
but of course this kind of political messaging works best when it can't be too readily clocked as such--if Fagin was obviously a stand-in for a respectable capitalist, a lot more of the readers would be comfortable excusing him.
which is why he's Jewish, and why the text belabors that point so obsessively--antisemitism is being used as a lever to discourage the public from identifying with Child Labor Exploiting Guy and to characterize his desire to accumulate wealth at the expense of others as greedy, selfish, and illegitimate.
i could never quite figure what the point of using that stock character in that context and so emphatically was. especially after learning that, having had it extensively explained that it was harmful to actual Jewish people to go so hard on this in such a popular novel, Dickens was like 'oh my bad' and walked it back a bit.
because in that case the antisemitism obviously wasn't an end in itself? but if it was incidental flavor, why so much?
but as a screen for his political agenda, it makes sense. using judaism to code an antagonist's profit motive as illegitimate had a long literary history already, but in this case Fagin was already manifestly a criminal so it was like. why.
anyway this isn't about justifying charles dickens' artistic choices that even he somewhat regretted. it's a bit about how easy it can be to fail to put together context even when you have all the pieces, especially at a remove from our own lived experience.
and a bit more about how the tools we use for political ends should be carefully inspected. no matter how ordinary and unremarkable they seem when we pick them up. because we might be missing different historical context due to being embedded in it.

Chapter 43.5
Tumblr media
Idiot.
The voice in my head is persistent. It’s been over two months but it’s not letting up.
Tumblr media
I try to focus on the lines, struggling to keep the faint remnants of my Tartosan accent from creeping into Llama Man’s commanding voice. It’s always more difficult just after I’ve been home.
Idiot.
Tumblr media
Images from the last year keep flashing by, little details seared into my brain. Her green eyes. Her smile. The delicate birthmarks artfully strewn across her face. I used to insist on kissing each of them goodbye before I left and it always made her laugh.
It was the best sound in the world.
Tumblr media
Idiot.
The more recent images are a different story. Her tears. The look of shock and confusion in her eyes. She didn’t understand, of course, and some days I’m not sure I do either. Am I an idiot for leaving her? Or for letting myself fall in love with her in the first place?
Both?
Tumblr media
“Alright, Paul, that was good, but let’s do an extra take just to be sure.”
I nod at the sound technician and start over.
Tumblr media
“I’ve sent the files off to Mike. Personally, I don’t think he’ll demand another round, the last two takes were flawless.”
“Thanks. I’m sorry for dragging you in for pick-ups again, I’ve been feeling a bit off lately.”
Tumblr media
“Hey, it’s a pay check. And I’m going to need it for the move. We want to get settled into the new house before my son’s wedding so we’re already packing.”
Tumblr media
“Did you find a job in Henford yet?”
Tumblr media
“Not yet, but my wife got an offer. We’ll make it work. My kid is the only family I have left, so if he moves abroad, we follow. And I never liked staying in one place for too long anyway, I get restless.”
Tumblr media
“Well, best of luck over there, Charles. The new sound tech will have some big shoes to fill.”
Tumblr media
“Thanks, Paul. It’s been a pleasure working with you.”
Tumblr media
Charles leaves, and I turn on the coffee machine.
I’ve just finished pouring two mugs when Lee arrives.
Tumblr media
“Oh, you must have read my mind, love, I am positively dying for a coffee right now.”
“When are you not?”
Tumblr media
Lee settles onto the sofa with a sigh.
“It’s been one of those weeks, deadlines put such a damper on my creativity. But how was Tartosa? Did you have a nice birthday?”
Tumblr media
“It was fine. I didn’t feel like making it a huge thing, but my mother had arranged a family dinner at the vineyard.”
“Ah, just an intimate and completely non-threatening gathering with fifteen to twenty people, then.”
I lean back against the counter and take a long sip of the coffee to avoid responding. It’s still too hot, and I grimace as the liquid burns my mouth. Idiot.
Lee isn’t so easily deterred, though.
Tumblr media
“So, that’s it? You’re just never going to see her again?”
Tumblr media
“Lee, first of all, she blocked me. On my birthday, no less. So I’m going to take that as a big fat hint and respect her wishes. Second, I broke up with her because it was a dead end. She’s not going to settle down for another decade, and when she does, she’s not going to pick some fifty year old relic.”
Lee raises an eyebrow.
“I beg your pardon?”
Tumblr media
“Yeah, I said it. Sorry to break it to you, Lee, but you’re old. Ancient. Practically dust.”
Tumblr media
“I’m choosing to ignore your hurtful remarks because you’re clearly heartbroken and out of your mind with grief.”
I snort. “Sorry. I’m fine, really, I’m just annoyed at myself.”
“For irrationally breaking up with the love of your life or for stubbornly refusing to reconsider?”
Tumblr media
“For being an idiot in general, I guess. I knew it was a bad idea. I even told her as much the first time I met her. But then I just had to go back and talk to her again like a complete dumbass and she practically invited herself back to my hotel. How could I say no to that?”
Lee chuckles. “Oh, but you couldn’t, of course you couldn’t. I mean, she’s not exactly my type, but I can still appreciate the aesthetics, as it were.”
“Right? And that might even have been fine if it never went any further, but I got carried away and kept seeing her even though everyone could tell it was going to end badly. We’re both better off like this, I’ll get over it.”
Lee just looks at me over the rim of his glasses.
Tumblr media
“Are you sure? I may be a dusty old relic but as far as I’m aware, the only way you could possibly know that she blocked you is if you spent your birthday trying to look her up.”
Tumblr media
“Thanks, detective. It was a moment of weakness, you don’t need to rub it in my face.”
Tumblr media
“I’m not trying to rub anything in your face, love, I know it’s not your thing. But you were clearly serious about her if you were planning to bring her to Tartosa. And just because the poor girl understandably got slightly intimidated, you drop her like a newborn giraffe. Why not give her some more time?”
Tumblr media
“I didn’t… Lee, it was the sensible thing to do! I just turned forty, I can’t just spend years waiting for her to make up her mind and hope for the best.”
Tumblr media
“I don’t share your fetish for monogamy, but I believe all relationships are like that, you can never be certain. But you’ve always been stubborn so I’ll just give you the usual break-up advice. Get a haircut, hit the gym, put yourself back out there. Will you at least see my stylist?”
Tumblr media
“Never. I am not brave enough to let Jessica Clemons near my wardrobe.”

Fake It Till You Make It
Chapter Two - The Monaco Grand Prix
The Princess of Monaco is wild and out of control. She needs to stop being in the tabloids for all the wrong reasons. Charles Leclerc has had a spot of bad press since his very public break up. He needs some good PR. What better way to fix their problems than to pair them up?

Party Princess's wreckages
At the approach of the Monaco Grand Prix, we take a look back at the Princess's car collection.
As many of our readers know, Princess Y/N has owned a multitude of cars. But, unlike her brother, she does not have an extensive and impressive car collections. Actually, she doesn't have a car collection at all.
The party princess was bought the first car in her collection at fifteen, before getting her licence. The BMW M4 was expected to stay in storage until Princess Y/N had a full licence.
Most of us probably had a Fiat 500 or our big brothers old car as our first car. But a Fiat 500 or hand me down car isn't appropriate for the party princess. The purchase of the white BMW M4 shouldn't have come as a surprise to anybody.
Nobody expected to see the pictures of the totalled car. In true part princess fashion, she took her brand new car out for a joyride. That joyride lasted a total of five minutes. Princess Y/N, luckily, climbed out of the car unscathed.
This trend of wrecking new cars continued on for Princess Y/N until the royal family refused to buy her any cars. We say the ruin of the beautiful Porsche 911, the destruction of the Ferrari 308 GTS, and the wreckage of the 1963 Volkswagen Beetle deluxe. This totals to €347,865 worth of damage.
If you would like to see the Princess's destroyed vehicles, fully restored in perfect condition, you can visit them in the Prince of Monaco's car collection.
Of all the things the article could have written about, why did it have to be her fuck ups? Couldn't they have talked about her years giving trophies on the podium? Couldn't they have mentioned her friendship with Fernando Alonso?
No, they had to go into her embarrassing moments. The Beetle and the Ferrari weren't even her fault. Sure, she maybe shouldn't have let her boyfriend at the time drive the cars and crash into those walls or trees.
The article didn't even mention the driver that backed into her Porsche. She was sat in traffic when that asshole backed up out of the blue.
The only one that was properly her fault was the BMW. At fifteen she went for a joyride before she really knew how to drive. The car didn't make it back with her.
"The media has nicknamed you the party princess," Henri spat. He stopped reading the article and locked his phone. "Are you not embarrassed? Does this not make you want to calm things down?"
She didn't answer him. She kept her head against the window of the car and stared out of the window. "Fine, be childish."
The car pulled up outside of the paddock entrance and the doors were pulled open for the prince and princess. Y/N climbed out of the car in just the way she had been taught, in a way that kept her skirts covering her.
The prince and princess walked into the paddock together. They smiled and waved for the cameras as they snapped pictures of them. It was far too warm for the suit Henri was wearing, but he looked proper and put together (which was the most important thing).
The party princess was wearing something a little more appropriate for the weather. Her white, floral patterned skirt was loose around her legs, falling to her feet and her top was nothing more than a plain vest. Sunglasses covered her eyes, for once not hiding a hangover.
She followed her brother to the garages. "I'm heading to Ferrari," he said, splitting off from her. Henri might have been the biggest Charles Leclerc fan, but they were still friends. For the few Grand Prix he attended a year, he spent it in the Ferrari garage, routing for his friend.
The princess headed off to the Aston Martin garage. The year before she had been running into the Alpine garage. Whichever team she favoured was the team Fernando Alonso was driving for.
She'd met Fernando when she was just ten years old. Her brother gave Jenson button his trophy and she hesitantly walked up to Fernando to give him his. Fernando had crouched to her height to thank her and take the trophy from her hands. That was the day she fell in love with Formula One. That was the day he became her favourite driver.
"Nando!" She called as she walked through the Aston Martin garage.
The Spaniard turned around upon hearing his name. His eyes lit up and he opened his arms, pulling her against him. "Hello, your highness," he said, grin on his face. "Are you excited for the race?"
"Oh, always," she answered as they walked through the garage. "I'm hoping I can give you another trophy this year."
She hadn't managed to make it to the qualifying that year. No, she was too busy getting lectured by her father (this was before the article running through the times she totalled her cars was published, mind you). She hadn't looked up where Fernando was on the grid this year.
"I'll try my very best for you," Fernando said.
As she and Fernando talked, Henri walked into the Ferrari garage. He didn't run straight to Charles, like his sister did with Fernando. Instead, he greeted people and posed for some pictures. He had a quick conversation with Fred Vasseur and talked to Carlos Sainz, wishing him good luck with the race, before going off to find Charles.
"Prince Henri," Charles Leclerc called, spotting him first.
"Charles." Henri held out his hand and Charles shook. They might have been friends, but they kept things proper. "How have you been?"
Charles's smile became tight. His answer was quick and not entirely positive. "Anyway, how are you? How is the party princess?"
Immediately, Henri's smile dropped from his face. "You heard about that?" He asked and Charles nodded. "She's going to give me grey hairs, I swear," Henri said and shook his head. "Every news article that comes out, it's something negative. I can't imagine what it's doing to her."
Charles understood, probably more than Henri realised. Since his recent breakup and his ex girlfriend's public blasting of him, the media hadn't been too kind. Nothing compared to the party princess, though.
But Charles didn't bring it up to Henri. There was no need, he was worrying about his own media problems.
Henri and Charles continued talking up until Charles was needed on track. Y/N had long since left Fernando to prepare himself and was currently talking to a star struck Tom Holland about his role as Spider-Man.
But soon it was the start of the Grand Prix. Y/N found her brother and stood with him, watching from the Ferrari garage as the cars zoomed around the track. Now that she had seen the article, she couldn't help but identify the places on the track that she had previously crashed her cars. A horrible, indescribable feeling filled her.
Fernando did end up on the podium, alongside Max Verstappen and Esteban Ocon. Henri gave one ecstatic Esteban his trophy and watched his joyous celebration. "Félicitations, Esteban," the princess said to him. His cheeks were pink as he stood back in position.
Y/N couldn't hide her smile as she walked up and gave Fernando his trophy. "I tried my very best for you, princess," Fernando said, pulling her into a hug. It lasted mere seconds before he was celebrating in front of the crowd.
Max Verstappen was given his trophy and the champagne was sprayed. As every year, the Monaco Grand Prix was an incredible event. But the Prince and Princess couldn't help but wish the Monegasque driver was on the podium, their national anthem playing.
***
After the Grand Prix, the princess was taken back to her apartment. She kicked off her shoes, got changed into her pyjamas and threw herself down onto her sofa.
She ignored her phone, and the social media no doubt critiquing her every move for the day, and fell asleep.
Prince Henri was back at the castle. He scrolled through his phone as the chef placed his food in front of him, looking for anything official posted about the royal family's presence at the Grand Prix. There was one article detailing his sister and her relationship with Fernando Alonso, but it was nothing negative.
Henri was pleasantly surprised. Normally at least one news outlet or tabloid was saying something negative about the princess. But not this time. And there it was, an article about her outfit and how inappropriate but unsurprising it was for her 'to be wearing THAT'.
He kept scrolling. Soon his articles were less about the royal family, with general news from the Grand Prix appearing. Stories about Red Bull's dominance, about the celebrities seen at the Grand Prix, about the two DNF's in the race.
But then he got to the stories about Charles. They weren't about his race. No, they detailed the sordid details of his last relationship.
Oh, so Charles Leclerc was in need of some good PR, just like Princess Y/N. Henri opened his messages and sent Charles a text. He threw his phone onto the table in front of him and waited.

It’s funny that Omid is pushing that Harry is willing to speak to Charles and William. According to Harry in Spare, during that conversation after Philip’s funeral, William told him that he loved him and just wanted him to be happy and even used their secret Diana code, but it was Harry who turned down William by saying he doesn’t believe him anymore even though William swore on Diana’s life. It was only after that, it seems, that William began to truly cut Harry off. During the Queen’s death, he didn’t bother replying to Harry anymore. So my interpretation is, Harry refusing to believe William during their conversation during Philip’s funeral really hurt William. Imo, the only thing that could bring the brothers together is Diana, and that didn’t work, that’s why I do believe their relationship is now irraparable and not even Charles’s cancer diagnosis and eventual death in the future could fix it.
But my question is, what changed with Harry? He refused to believe William when he said he loved him and wanted him to be happy, so why is he now positioning himself as the one willing to make amends? Did he just have to publish Spare first? Is it kind of like “let me just get this off my chest and out into the world first before I make amends”? Lol.
But also, William said during Philip’s funeral that he was feeling really bad about how things turned out. Do you think Harry is justified for not believing William swearing on Diana’s life because William is guilty of having done something bad to Harry? Do you think William icing Harry off ever since that conversation might suggest that William does think he has legs to stand on and is not entirely guilty?
I think Harry is an unreliable narrator and probably dramatized the confrontation with Charles and William. I can't see a 40 year old man, certainly not one as composed as William, screaming "I swear on Mummy's life" -- not ever, and certainly not in public or outdoors where someone could risk hearing them.
(And also the idea that the only way Charles can discipline his almost 40-year-old sons is to threaten them with their mother? Look, I know it's different in the UK and the royals are different from everyone else, but that's just bizarre.)
Imo, the only thing that could bring the brothers together is Diana, and that didn’t work, --> This is actually really astute, anon. I think this is exactly what has happened between them. Someone invoked Diana and it crossed a line for the other one. If I had to guess, it was Harry invoking Diana in the Oprah interview that crossed a line for William and those tensions boiled over at the Frogmore Peace Summit.
So getting to your questions -- Harry is much like Meghan in that he projects what he feels/does onto other people. That he doesn't believe William swearing on Diana's life means anything is because he himself doesn't believe that swearing on Diana's life mean anything. (And if invoking Diana is the only way to stop this, then why didn't it happen sooner? Why didn't Harry invoke Diana with the "misinformation" in 2018/2019?)
Most likely there was destructive behavior on both sides and both brothers are justified in how they perceived, received, and responded to it. Does that make one more justified than the other? I don't think so - but what Harry implies is that William is "wrongest" because he's the oldest, so it's on William to fix everything. Which is shitty. But also perfectly normal because in some families, you never grow out of the "role" you were assigned as a child. How normal that the BRF is like this too.
And yes. William icing Harry out since Philip's funeral does mean that he feels he's right in whatever happened. But they've both dug in and they're both entrenched on their own "I'm right, he's wrong" side that nothing will probably fix this. William not budging on any of this, especially in light of the cancer diagnosis, does make me think William knows more about whatever this is than Harry thinks he does and that is playing a bit role in what's happening. Or not happening.
what changed with Harry? He refused to believe William when he said he loved him and wanted him to be happy, so why is he now positioning himself as the one willing to make amends? Did he just have to publish Spare first? Is it kind of like “let me just get this off my chest and out into the world first before I make amends”? -> Sort of. Judging by the interviews Harry did to promote Spare before the book came out, he was expecting everyone to become much more sympathetic to him and that Spare would restore his reputation and make him popular again. But instead, Spare made him a complete laughingstock, no one took him seriously, and it performed poorly (it didn't sell out, he probably didn't make his advance, and the Spanish PRB branch undercut his marketing by leaking early). In other words, Spare only made Harry's life more miserable. He's going back to the royal family demanding amends because those stories get him the positive attention he wants, makes William look like a bully (which he tried to do in Spare but no one bought it), and he thinks he can legitimately lovebomb the BRF into taking him back because after all, if that's how Meghan got him to fall in love with her, then surely if he does it to his family, it'll make them like him again.

Kinda of a downer and you don't have to answer this but your post about how one of the austen heroines could die giving birth made me think of how the heroes would grieve. Do you think they would remarry and such?
I don't mind. It's important to remember that in this era (and sometimes even in Western countries today), people aren't only marrying for love. If Mr. Darcy ended up widowed with a daughter, he might think the "right" and responsible thing to do is to marry so there is a mother in the house to look after the child. And having a mistress of the manor was a real job which was even more important when you had children.
I've written this. (it's sad obviously)
Now we know with Georgiana that Darcy is wealthy enough to basically replace a mother with staff (like Mrs. Annesley), but say an Edward Ferrars with five children might require either a wife or a female relation (who basically gets room and board) to manage the house and help with the children's education.
To give an example from a novel, in Wives & Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell, Molly's mother dies when she's very young. Her father is a country surgeon and not that wealthy. He ends up hiring a governess, both to teach Molly and to keep the house respectable (it's heavily implied he wouldn't have if his wife lived). However, when Molly reaches 17 and he realizes she's going to have suitors, he decides to remarry mostly so she has a chaperone. There is another widower in the novel who has only sons, he doesn't remarry and depends on his female relations to entertain.
As for the Jane Austen heroes...
Colonel Brandon and Captain Wentworth both have the kind of romantic personality that would lead me to think that they wouldn't remarry. They also are probably both wealthy enough to cover the lack of a wife with staff. Maybe Sophia Croft could help too ❤️ (Colonel Brandon has some family mentioned too).
Charles Bingley and Henry Tilney I can easily see remarrying, after an appropriate grieving period.
Edmund Bertram got over Mary, I bet he would remarry after Fanny. Just throw him someone wife-shaped (is my disdain for him coming through?) Also, given Fanny's weak state of health, he may be our most likely candidate. Reginald de Courcy would be like Edmund.
As for Edward Ferrars, he is pretty devoted to Elinor, but it depends when she dies. Life is long and can be lonely. I do see grieving taking him longer than the others.
With Mr. Knightley, he just doesn't really leave Highbury (lack of opportunity) and he lived as a bachelor for like, 38 years? So I feel like he's unlikely to remarry if Emma dies. Also, he can invite John and Isabella to live with him.
And Darcy. Firstly, I can see Lady Catherine pushing very hard for him to marry Anne if she's still alive and unmarried. Secondly, he's such a catch that he will definitely have women trying and he does engage in society (keeps a house in London ect.) so he has opportunity. However, he is picky and it took him 28 years to be so bewitched by a woman... I could see it taking him a while to remarry, but not because of grief but because it takes him a while to meet someone else he likes well enough to marry.
Also, just as a note, Jane Austen has very few remarried people in her novels, contrary to what was statistically likely at the time. Mr. Henry Dashwood and Mr. Fraser (Mary Crawford's friend's husband) are exceptions to the general rule. General Tilney, Sir Walter, and Mr. Elliot are some of the very few widowers and only the last one is trying to remarry. There are several widows and as far as I know none of them remarry.
There is speculation that Lady Lucas is a second wife, since Charlotte is 27 and has a 7ish year old brother (The famous Lucas Wine Boy). However, with about 20 years of fertility, this age spread is certainly possible with a single wife.

Deciphering the DRDT Character Playlist
Hello DRDT community! @accirax and I took a look at the official character song playlist [remade version bc it got deleted or privated] and decided to take our own shot at figuring out whose is whose and what it means. It's pretty late, but we have at least some sort of a guess with reasoning for every song!
We used a combination of Genius lyrics, the vocaloid lyrics wiki, and google translation of Japanese lyrics in the YouTube description to get a decently functional interpretation of every song. Our theory goes through the songs in the order they show up on the playlist (we're pretty positive it isn't kill order), which means our confidence varies heavily from song to song. With that being said, let's go!
Diamond is Unbreakable by Yunno Kago: Ace Markey
Tumblr media
This song does not have many lyrics, so a lot of our guess is based on vibes (though it gives much more than some other songs). The rock instrumental with more yell-based vocals feels like it suits Ace though, and I feel safe to say that Ace has had a breakdown (and may have many more in the future).
Sing Along by Sturgill Simpson: Teruko Tawaki
Tumblr media
This song fits Teruko quite well. It has an edgier sound to it, but it isn't completely uncaring if you look at the lyrics.
I can't go on living alone now that you're gone You done me wrong, so here's your song
It reminds me of the scene where she plays with the cacti. She clearly misses Xander (and possibly others in her past), but that obviously doesn't stop her from feeling betrayed by them either.
There are a lot of lyrics about bitterness too (ex. "words can stab as deep as night," "bitter air and the winds of spite"), which reflect how Teruko has been treating the rest of the cast in Chapter 2. It's a duality of caring too much and acknowledging the harshness of the world, which encapsulates Teruko's character quite well.
RUNAWAY by half alive: Hu Jing
Tumblr media
Not gonna lie, we were struggling on this one. This song is pretty much entirely predictive of a character arc that Hu might have later on. We're predicting this based on Hu's secret quote, which is basically the only reason we gave this song to her: "I want to pay for what I've done. But even then, I still want to live."
This implies that she has not paid for "what [she's] done," which probably relates to her secret. I know a lot of people think she might be the hopeless child, but I'm far more partial to the theory that Hu is the one who poisoned her competition. If she hasn't paid for it, it's possible she feels like she ran away, from the situation which could open the door for her handling those feelings later on.
cartoons by Louie Zong: Rose Lacroix
Tumblr media
This entire song is about drawing and thought processes, which both relate to Rose's character pretty strongly. The recurring lyric of "it's all just cartoons in [her] head" makes me think of her photographic memory, which takes real life and permanently stores it in her mind.
There are also lyrics like "feeling every day the same" and "trying to make that old deadline" that strongly relate to her background with the Spurling Foundation. She feels like she's just watching the rest of her life go by as a corporate slave, and those feelings are wrapped up in a light and airy song, matching Rose's demeanor.
asymptotic by Louie Zong: Charles Cuevas
Tumblr media
This is a silly little nerd love song. As a CharWhit shipper, I definitely think that there's a strong chance that this relates to Charles' feelings about Whit, calling him a "cutie face in x-y space" and other such things. It's pretty simple, but it's true that, romantic or not, a lot of Charles' character arc thus far has revolved around his relationship with Whit and realizing that he does enjoy spending time with his classmates.
However, notably, there's also the lyric "I'll forget," which made me start thinking about Charles' past he forgot about.
Asymptotic, obliquely Here's the point of this speech As close as we could ever get, you'll be just out of reach
This reads to me as being about Charles' memories or the older brother he doesn't remember losing. As close as he can get to remembering or understanding what happened through things like the secrets motive, it won't be the same as actually returning to that past or remembering it in full. Maybe that's reading into things a little too hard, but I think the interpretation is there to be read.
A Mistaken Belief of Love by Niru Kajitsu: Eden Tobisa
Tumblr media
I'll be direct: this relates to our theories about how Eden is the Chapter 2 killer. I'm a particular proponent of the interpretation that Eden didn't believe Arei when she said she wanted to be friends and decided she wanted to escape back to her old life, to the girl she kissed. I'm not going to go into that Eden theory now, but @/1moreff-creator and @/thebadjoe have a great thread going back and forth which goes over a lot of what I personally believe to be true.
If you assume that Eden is the killer and wanted to be Arei's friend but gave up on the possibility when Arei snapped at her, the lyrics start to make sense. "Then I'll kill you at our rendezvous" would clearly relate to Eden summoning Arei to the playground just to kill her. "I just wanted to mistakenly believe that you loved me" relates to Eden's feelings towards Arei and the rest of the class, but that "mistaken belief" was shattered, causing her to kill.
Shunran by John/TOOBOE: Arei Nageishi
Tumblr media
This song chronicles Arei's entire character arc, from prologue to death. It starts out much more aggressive and unfriendly, saying things like "I won't pay attention to small fry" and "I become angry easily." However, there's a recurring lyric that shows how she actually feels.
They say that praying to be loved is a sin. It has such a sweet scent.
Arei desperately wants to be loved, for people to be nice to her, but she's learned over the course of her life that she couldn't have that. Still, she can't help but want to be loved, so even when she knows that David is a manipulator, she still listens to his words. Even when she knows she's been awful to Eden, she swears she'll do anything to prove to Eden that she's serious, that she really does want to be her friend.
I pledged a ceasefire. My personality peeled off and fell because I have the courage to accept disappointment
As the song progresses, that desperate desire to be loved creeps its way into the actions the singer takes as well. Arei was willing to put aside her meanness she learned as a defense and try to stop the fighting, try to become friends, because she's strong enough to try even if she might fail. Through it all, all she wants is to be loved.
Yesman by Niru Kajitsu and Hachiya Nanashi: Nico Hakobyan
Tumblr media
This song has a lot of lyrics relating to how the singer expresses scorn or insults. We know that this is a focal point of Nico's struggles with communication: they don't know what comes across as hostile or helpful.
However, as the song progresses, it gets more purposefully aggressive. There's a particular set of lines that seem to relate to how Nico interacts with Ace. They can tell Ace that they hate him, directly, and no one even blames them.
You could say that and you're still just a kid. How amazing!
This, in my mind, relates to Nico saying that they'll kill Ace (and clearly meaning it), but Hu still babies them. They can get away with all kinds of things.
There's no reason for me to turn back now, huh? I was caught in my own trap
Nico then, realizing that they can get away with a lot, goes after Ace, trying to literally kill him. They were caught, though, explaining the second lyric here.
The song also has a prominent lyric: "I'm an introvert, just waiting." There are variations on this, but I think it gets across the core idea: Nico is quiet, but they're still a part of the story the whole time, waiting for an opportunity to get their way.
Undead Enemy by Suzumu and Giga P: David Chiem
Tumblr media
This song hinges around David's false persona of smiles and motivation and his true self who hates everything and everyone.
For whatever reason, he put on a mask symbolizing The leading role he had yearned for in the past.
Here, David is choosing to put on that motivational speaker persona.
And, from the next day onward, The unhappy boy's smile did not falter, He was even loved by someone
David then keeps up that happy and inspirational self, without fail, so that the world will love and accept him as the Ultimate they expect him to be.
However, the lyrics are filled with more hateful lines that sound more like him in Episode 11.
Slander and criticize, and then, I won't need anyone else. Just leave me alone
I act spitefully in disgust and force a smile
While he pretends to be happy and good, he knows himself to be much worse. This song focuses on those true colors.
Drawing Pins by Nothing but Thieves: Levi Fontana
Tumblr media
Levi is a very pensive character. The main line of the song is "tell me what you did it for, 'cause I can't figure it out." That could relate to Levi's apparent struggles to understand others and what the "correct" thing to do in social situations is, like when he asks others how to handle the situation with Ace. I also like the interpretation that he could be talking to himself, wondering why he did what he did in the past. (Whatever mysterious past Levi has, it's clear that he did some things he's not thrilled about, and he seems to have a lot of feelings surrounding it.)
What do I have to do To be loved, loved by you
I'm personally not an AceVi shipper, but this line would definitely relate to Ace. Levi messed up in the first trial, threatening Ace, but in Chapter 2, he's trying to make up for it. Nothing he seems to do works, though, so he's at a loss as to what he could possibly do to make it up to him.
Hi-Fi Evolution Theory by Keu Studio: Veronika Grebenshchikova
Tumblr media
Disclaimer, we had to put this song through google translate, so our lyrics might not be entirely correct.
Given that, though, I'm pretty confident this song must be Veronika's. There are a lot of lyrics that indicate her, but the most important ones surround what we've most recently learned about her: she can't stand boredom and will do just about anything for fun.
But is it selfish to have fun?
The one who laughs last is the winner
Even though Veronika knows that enjoying the killing game or possibly even working against the group's best interests in it is stupid at best and evil at worst, she'll still do it as long as it keeps her entertained. If she's selfish, she's selfish; she'll do it either way.
tip toes by half alive: Min Jeung
Tumblr media
This song heavily ties into Min's outlook which she explains in her bonus episode. The lyrics mention a "need to be known," or a "pride" that's "screaming." She internalized a core need to become an Ultimate to keep her going forward and to preserve her hope.
She does want to change her behavior, though.
My future will listen to me, Listen to me, listen to me
Min is trying desperately to find a life for herself now that she's become an Ultimate. She wants to learn how to live after she's achieved the goal that her entire life has centered around. This song is her searching for the life that she wants to live in spite of her previous experience.
The song also sounds sort of desperate with its repetition of "listen to me" and the overall vibe of the instrumental. This fits in with Min's increasing desperation as she realizes, at the end of the first trial, that she won't have a future to figure out anymore.
Polygonal by fallstay (ふぁるすてぃ): Xander Matthews
Tumblr media
This one was also put through google translate, so apologies for any mistranslations!
This song makes sense for Xander if you consider his clear survivor's guilt, visible through both his bonus episode and his secret quote, which is, in the most literal way possible, the dictionary definition of survivor's guilt. It mentions a "life full of mistakes" and describes other similar thoughts.
I'm dizzy and it hurts so much that I feel like throwing up
The urge to scream and someone's loud sobbing
That's my pain
These all feel like ways Xander interprets his past, which is his pain. We already know that Teruko accidentally running into him and hitting his eye hurt so badly he passed out, which is a step beyond "dizzy." Someone could be sobbing about his past; maybe it's even him. The things in his past that haunt him are what shape who he is and his actions, and that's what this song is about.
Spitfire (05 Version) by The Prodigy: J Rosales
Tumblr media
This one has like one lyric. The vibes fit J though, and I don't really know who else's it would be or what other song would be hers, so it stays.
desk rotation by RQ laji-2: Arturo Giles
Tumblr media
I'm not gonna lie. This is an instrumental. We have no idea what it means. This was process of elimination. I don't know what other song Arturo's would be so he gets this one.
(In all seriousness, you COULD give this one to Hu because it's music and she's a musician, give Arei the more hopeful RUNAWAY and give Arturo Shunran. The beginning of Shunran fits him decently, but I think the interpretation sort of falls apart in the middle of the song, at least given what I know about his character, and I think it fits Arei much better.
After we read some other theories, too, we think there's a viable shuffle that goes like this:
desk rotation: Hu (musical connection) tip toes: Arturo (generally prideful, future emphasis contrasting with his secret forcing him to think about the past) asymptotic: Min (abstracted to apply to the life she wants to seek out, math works as Ultimate Student) RUNAWAY: Charles (relating to him "running" from his past memories, positive growth arc)
While I still like our initial interpretations for Charles asymptotic and Min tip toes, I like the handling of RUNAWAY and desk rotation better with this one.)
For whatever it's worth, I also think there's a slight possibility that desk rotation is a placeholder song. It's a complete instrumental (all other songs have at least SOME lyrics), so it wouldn't be too insane to me if they had a song that they decided was just too spoiler-y to be released to the public. In that case, I think it's possible desk rotation will one day be replaced with a different song. Realistically, though, it's probably just here and we have to figure out what the hell it means.
Good Grief by Bastille: Whit Young
Tumblr media
Whit obviously lost his mother at some point, who he clearly idolizes. You can see the glowing way he talks about her in the laundry room with Teruko and Charles, and his secret quote is literally "We tend to idolize the dead." He loves his mother, but given his secret, it's clear that she is dead.
This song is about grief. Whit represses a lot of his emotions, so I expect he hasn't yet felt his grief in full and hasn't processed it. He has, however, made it very clear that he struggles with loneliness, and that has a lot to do with his loss. I think that, over the course of the story, he's going to have to actually process grief and experience sadness. While it's possible that'll just be due to the feelings he has surrounding his mother, given that he's in a killing game, I think that he'll have to confront personal loss again to have this arc.
Regrettably, I think that that'll probably come in the form of Charles dying, likely as a Chapter 3 victim. Others have theorized on that, but suffice it to say that, narratively and based on hints they've dropped, I think it's probably true ( :( ). Whit, as he clearly cares about Charles, would then be confronted with grief again. He'd have to endure it and learn to deal with the loss.
On the plus side, I'd expect he'd be likely to survive afterwards.

Lookism Chapter 432 Memes/Thoughts I Have:
(SPOILERS !!! I don’t own any of the Lookism panels and the translations. Only the memes that I made.)
I’d like to say, thank you for reading my reviews and thoughts for each chapter so far. And thank you for liking the memes. 😳💖 But bruh, this chapter man… There’s a lot being revealed, so let’s get into it!!! 😌✨
Tumblr media
Well crap. Eugene’s got some leverage on James Lee too. Wtffff 😭😭😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WELL… SHIT. R.I.P. JAMES LEE IS GOING TO BE U S E D ✨
Tumblr media
HE LOOKS SO UPSET SITTING IN THAT LOW ASS CHAIR NOW. I CAN’T GET OVER THE WAY HE’S SITTING ON THAT CHAIR FROM LAST CHAPTER. SORRY GUYS. 💀
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And let me guess, you gonna do that to James too...? 🤔
Tumblr media
DAMN. HIT EM WITH THE THREAT, JAMES LMAAAOOOOOOO. THESE TWO ARE ALREADY THREATENING EACH OTHER SDFHSDKFHSAKJDFHSDF. I’M- 💀💀💀
Tumblr media
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!! HAHAHAHAHA... 😶 (Also, James. That’s Crystal’s dad too. She’s might hate you for it lol. UNLESS-  👀 Plot twist: she hates her dad too.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok, I kinda get WHY he’d bring up James’s murder case in the first place. It’s like the “check and balance” thing where you counter them if they do something wrong or betray you. I get it. Eugene and James both have dirt on each other in case one betrays the other, but it sucks to think that Eugene has the upper-hand here because of his connections with the police. He can cover up ANY dirty thing that he does. Also, he can use his knowledge against James whenever he wants so James is just... stuck. Poor guy. Imagine having your ex-boss blackmail you and NOW your new ally blackmails you just to help him. 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yayyyyy killer bros together!!! 😍😍😍 The Psycho Alliance has made a brand new treaty. 🤭
Tumblr media
Literally, it really be like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok, but why do I find this hilarious? They’re still young, and they have so much time and opportunities to spend their youth without doing any illegal or gang related activities. Yet, their main goal is to kill an old guy. LMFAO OK, JUST IMAGINE. A random old guy sees them chatting outside in front of a cafe or something. discussing their plans about taking down Charles Choi. Then, this old man walks up to them, right? He asks them, “Oh my, you kids are so young! Don’t you have any special things that you want to do in your lives? Don’t just sit around and let time go by. You should go out and do something with your lives!” and then they reply with, “Oh, we are! We’re off to kill an old guy because we hate him!” Like... 👁👄👁  Bros, are you good? LMAAAOOOOOOOO
Also, if you think this template is familiar, then you’re right. I couldn’t resist reusing this template because EUGENE REALLY GOT +25 CARDS UP PEOPLE’S ASSES. ESPECIALLY JAMES’S IN THIS SITUATION.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Hey Alexa, play Often by The Weeknd!” 🥵🥵🥵
Tumblr media
I’M SORRY. YOU GUYS ARE TIRED OF ME OBSESSING OVER THIS MAN, BUT LOOOOOOOOOOK AT HIM!!! 😍😍😍😍😍 LIKE GAAHHH DAYUUUUUUUM. THIS MAN CHANGED INTO A SIMPLER OUTFIT, BUT HE STILL LOOKS SO FIIINNNEEEEE!!!! UGGGHHHH. Ayo he can bend me backwards bro, I DON’T CARE. Gawk Gawk 9000? Uhhhh... LET ME CONSIDER- 👀 NAH I’M KIDDING... Or am I...? 😏 I’D LET HIM FOLD ME TOO. 😭😭😭💀💀💀💀💀 (And ofc he’s drinking Hibiki. 😂 Like brooooooo... hottest Yakuza I’ve ever seen. You can’t DENY.)
*N S F W  M E M E S  W A R N I N G*
Tumblr media
Sorry. I just had to. 💀 ALSO, COMPLETELY UNRELATED BUT...
Tumblr media
I APOLOGIZE. I GOT NO “STOP” BUTTON WHEN IT COMES TO THIS MAN. 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 I’M SO SORRY!!!
*E N D  O F  N S F W  M E M E S*
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAND THE OLD MAN AGREES. HAHAHAHAHAHA Bruh, I’ve never seen him genuinely smile before. Is it just me? He always look so grumpy and serious all the time like  >:(  Tbh this panel really surprised me lol.
Tumblr media
EW. BRUV. WHO BROUGHT IN TRASH OVER HERE??? 😭😭😭😭 HAVEN’T SEEN THEM IN FOREVER PERO LIKE, I DON’T MISS ANY OF YOU LMFAOOOOOO GTFO.
Tumblr media
OK, BUT THIS IS SO NOSTALGIC!!! SEEING LITTLE DANIEL BEAT THEM UP. 🥺🥺 This makes me reminisce the older Lookism chapters.
Also nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. You’re all getting your asses beaten for sure. Daniel will clap you all. Each. 👏🏽 And. 👏🏽 Every. 👏🏽 One. 👏🏽 Of. 👏🏽 You. 👏🏽
Tumblr media
OHHHHHH... WELL, SPEAKING ABOUT DANIEL-
Tumblr media
TIME TO GET HELLA CLAPPED!!!! 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
Tumblr media
These fools. Smh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OMGGGGGG IT’S DANIEL’S MOM!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH IT’S BEEN FOREVER. 😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ BEST MOM EVER!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!! ALSO, NAH. YOU FUCKERS ARE FUCKED NOW. HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT ABOUT SOMEONE’S MOM, LIKE WTF IS WRONG WITH ALL OF YOU? Do they not have respect for anybody? Sometimes I think about these so called “bullies” in this Webtoon. Like no wonder you guys are so fucked up, y’all don’t got any parents or something? No guardians who’d teach you how to be a decent person??? Any manners? 💀 At least Daniel has a mom who knows how to treat her own son. I’m guessing y’all are just jealous that you don’t have a great mom like Daniel who’d sacrifice herself just for her son because she LOVES HIMMMMM!!! 😤😤😤😤 If any of them approach me, I’m throwing hands. Idc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🏃🏽‍♂️🏃🏽‍♂️🏃🏽‍♂️🏃🏽‍♂️🏃🏽‍♂️🏃🏽‍♂️
Daniel Park for FIFA World Cup 2026. ⚽️🏆
Tumblr media
YEEEEESSSSSSS THAT’S OUR BOI. AHHHHH I’M SO PROUD OF HIM!!
Tumblr media
And when that one bitch from your old high school called you ugly, but now thinks you’re hot... 😑
OH MY GOD. IT’S HAPPENING!!!!
Tumblr media
OH MY GOOOOOOODDDDDDD!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MA’AM, WE WERE AS SURPRISED AS YOU ARE WHEN WE FIRST SAW HIM CHANGE  TOO. 💀 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! FINALLYYYYYY. WE GOT TO SEE HER REACTION TO HIS TRANSFORMATION!!! UGH. I’M GONNA GO CRY NOW. 😭😭😭😭😭💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Tumblr media
He has matured into a very good man. And a fine one too... I’m so proud of him. His character development had come such a long way. 😭💞
THIS IS JUST MY THEORY. (Before any of you argue about this and flame my ass, I’m telling you now. This is just my opinion. Pls don’t get heated by it. Thank you.)  💀
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know it’s about to get serious when an old person did the, “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” pose. 🚨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FINALLY. Jinyeong Park’s time to shine. 🤩 I’m getting a Darth Vader and Luke moment here. “Luke.... I am your father.” (That’s the only Star Wars reference I know. My bad.) And Jinyeong belongs to the dark side (The Worker’s First Affiliate), while Daniel is the main protagonist who belongs on the good side. Call me goofy, I know. Because my wack ideas make me think about my life choices sometimes. LMFAO But ANYWAYS, I CAN’T WAIT FOR DANIEL’S MOM TO EXPLAIN WHO JINYEONG PARK IS. I’m just glad that Daniel got to see his mom after everything that he had been through. The kid needs a break, and I’m here for it. ❤️
ALSO I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE HIS FAMILY’S REACTION TO HIS TRANSFORMATION. AHHHHHHH I’M SO EXCITED!!! 🤪

On blackballing, boycotting and cancel culture since 1880...
If there’s a phrase that really sums up the events of 2022, surely it must be “cancel culture”. This is a phrase that has been much overused, largely by the right-wing press, and often in a context that suggests it’s a completely new phenomenon, brought about by an angry mob of wokies wanting to force through unreasonable change. But here’s the thing. It isn’t new. It’s a concept as old as privilege.
Here’s why.
The concept of “cancel culture” is, by definition, elitist. Those in positions of privilege have always had the right to exclude, cancel – or blackball – people they consider to be undesirable.  (In fact, the word “blackball” dates back to the 18th century, and refers to the means of rejecting a person applying to become a member of a private club.)
But blackballing happens in secret, between friends and fellow club members. The reasons for blackballing someone are never revealed to the public. It might be an unproven rumour, or a personal grievance. It might be a prejudice of race, or class, or gender, or birth. Members of the private club do not have to justify their prejudices, or allow the right to reply. That’s because they already belong: they are perceived as inherently deserving.
But when the undesirables realize that they, too, have the power to criticize, and to do it openly, the privileged start to get nervous. No-one likes to be criticized, still worse boycotted. The word, by the way, comes from the name of Charles Boycott, a retired British Army Captain and land agent, who when he tried to evict Irish tenants from their homes during the 1880 potato famine, was very publicly ostracized by his workers and the farming community. No-one would work for him, or provide services for him. His crops were left to rot in the fields. He was effectively cancelled.
Charles Boycott was outraged by this. In a long letter to the Times, he laid out his many grievances, speaking of death threats, lost income and a “howling mob.” He gave many interviews to the British Press, where he was presented as the victim of an attack – a peer of the realm, his business ruined by Irish nationalists. Between them, the newspapers raised £2000 – an important sum in 1880 -  to save Boycott’s crops. No-one seemed to give much thought to why he’d been criticized in the first place, or to the plight of those starving Irish tenants and their families.
So, here’s a question. What’s the difference between blackballing and boycotting? The only real difference seems to be who does the cancelling, and where. Privilege takes it for granted that it will always get to decide who matters, and who can be ignored. Privilege isn’t used to being judged, and when it finds itself on the wrong side of public opinion, claims victimhood, “cancel culture” and “mob rule.” But that’s just because, to the privileged, any shifting of the balance towards equality feels like an injustice, and any attention given to the voice of the people is “mob rule.” Which isn’t to say that public opinion is always right, any more than the voices of the elite are always worth listening to: but voicing it isn’t “cancel culture”, and it isn’t new. It’s freedom of speech, extended to those whose voices are not deemed important enough to be reported in the Times. Freedom of speech, which is also the right to criticize, or to reply, or blackball, or ignore, or boycott; a freedom that really only exists when it’s free to everyone.

I wish you’d write a fic where the Old people foursome has a double date and doesn’t have to worry about saving the fucking world for once 🥲
(Or Zorya is in a mustached sandwich between Murderface and Eddy)
This turned into waffle, but I kind of like slice of life waffle!!
Wine night was nice when it was just the two of them. Roisin and Magnus had created a regime that worked for them. That kept them safe, and away from the nightmarish world. Her warmth had opened his eyes to his wrongs, and the wrongs he could have done. Now? His haven is her lap, his home is his face within her hands. His lifeblood is the feeling of her lips on his.
Then their two turned back into a three, and it was welcomed. Though there might have been teething issues between Magnus and Charles – created by each other against each other, fabricated in fear of things not being the same – but they were quick to come to their senses. It was like being in college all over again, except they’ve all learned lessons now. They’re not worrying about reports or dissertations. Not even about lights out and sneaking in weed to their rooms.
And now there’s four.
It’s a good number – means no one is left out. Means their lives are forever changing, and that’s a good thing. A reminder that their lives move on, and on, and on. Sometimes it’s scary. Sometimes it’s a comfort.
“I can’t believe you’d say that – Nick Pizzazz is the best wrestler of his generation!” you’d never have thought Cal is the newest member, refilling Roisin’s wine glass to the brim as she argues (light-heartedly, they assume) with Magnus. He sneers, but the corners of his lips are lifted just enough to make it less threatening.
“He’s all about show – there’s no skill!”
“I was his protégé!” Cal sounds aghast, lifting her own glass, and she huffs as Magnus actually lets out a bit of a laugh.
“I know.”
Roisin laughs because Magnus laughs, and she finds the sound inviting. Charles chuckles, because he does find it funny, and he can see that Cal finds it funny too: the way her eyes aren’t going that certain way, or the way she isn’t tensing up or gripping her glass. Magnus watches her, not knowing these little facets of her yet, smirking, and Cal smirks back behind her glass, taking a long drink. “You’re lucky I’ve already had a glass, sug’, or I’d show you the kinda things he taught me.”
“Some other time, hm?” Magnus gets up, walking over to the aga, stirring the veg in the pan, “When was the last time you made dinner for yourself, huh, Charlie? Can’t believe the rich boy shit you get up to now.”
“He’s busy doing other things.” Roisin teases and defends in one breath – Calypso always admires that about her. She only ever finds that flawless two-faced kindness in Texas, and yet from Roisin it is delightful – it doesn’t make Calypso put her guard up.
“I cook,” Charles’ quiet rebuttal goes over their heads, except Cal steps towards him nonchalantly and puts her hand across his shoulder. He leans his head back, the nape of his neck against her arm. “Since when can you cook anything edible?”
“Hmph,” Magnus refuses to answer, adding more spices to the mix. Roisin sips her wine. Something is on the tip of Magnus’ tongue, she can tell, but he holds back, and lets it fall away. But Charles can’t help it – he’s watching precious mushroom fall from the wok.
“You’re too rough.” He gets up, gently moving past Cal – his hand grazing her thighs in the last moment of touch before walking over. Magnus rolls his head back, eyes going with, but does step aside without a battle, giving him a mocking bow and drinking more of his beer. Cal stays standing, not sure what to do until she feels a hand guide her down to Charles’ seat. Roisin wraps her arm around Cal’s, not even bringing attention to it as Charles and Magnus ‘discuss’ the best way to present the whole thing. Cal’s fingers circle the rim of her glass, smiling as she watches Charles in his true element. No demands, no stress, tie even gone and shirt unbuttoned (just the one though, don’t want to go crazy). And she fits. The one thing Cal had been panicked about the most – for surely if she never fit with Roisin and Magnus, then she’d be out the door. It had never been about impressing Charles himself (she knows she does), but the people he considers his confidants in dark days.
Roisin squeezes her arm, and Cal is brought back out of her wondering. Because her thoughts and her worries don’t matter, not now. It’s all she needs.

Just came from theaters. Thoughts (spoiler heavy) under the "Keep Reading."
I pretty much expected the narrative to be the safest, straightest Point A-to-Point B plot. Being a ninety minute film (which my bladder thanks, because I can't watch movies past the two hour mark in theaters without rushing to the restroom nowadays), it never stays in one place or dilemma for long; this film is snappy. Everybody takes things at face value amazingly quick and advance the plot with little struggle. It's kind of odd, because normally this would bother me WAY more since the emotional impact of the protagonist's personal arc should have that gravitate (this film needed maybe like, an extra ten minutes), but I think having a paper thin plot that runs entirely in speedrun mode probably saved it more than killed. It is right to the point, says what it needs to, establishes and answers, and then moves on. I think having a laser focus goal (Mario and Luigi ends up in the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach needs to save it from Bowser, they go kick his ass) means all the little scenes that we do are crucial to the overall movie instead of pointless meandering. The action-y part of the film get to linger the most, which are spectacular to see, though I would have sacrificed a few minutes of it for some introspection. I guess I shouldn't have expected much from an Illumination film, let alone Nintendo's default flagship. When you have a brand as big as Mario (he's pretty much gaming's Mickey Mouse, after all), it makes sense this movie is just... the most Okay Thing Ever. At the very least, it does mean the movie didn't get gross out humors or Mario spouting dated catchphrases, though the pop songs playing in the background DO stick out by contrast, even if it's another thing I'd expect from a mainstream western animated movie.
Probably the biggest jaw drop is not the isekai route (I'm 36, I grew up with American Nintendo lore where Mario and Luigi were originally from Brooklyn and I'm still grateful the movie paid tribute to it because damn it, I find that aspect of Mario Lore interesting, non-canonical my ass!) , but that they have... parents. Nay, a FAMILY. Mario and Luigi have always BEEN Mario and Luigi. We see their parents from the knee down and cloaked in shadows in Yoshi's Island, but that was literally a couple of screens post-credit; we never see their faces or catch their names or anything. Even the 1993 Mario movie only had Mario and Luigi - their parents were non-essentials. Imagine my shock to see they have A Mom and Dad. What the fuck? And not just parents, they have a whole extended family living under one roof (like any true Italians, of course.) I wanna know who these other folks are. Uncles? Cousins? There's a baby there. Mario and Luigi's cousin? Is the old guy their grandpa??? Help, I don't know what to do with this information. How do I take in Mario and Luigi having an actual family?
Pauline has a brief speaking role and it looks like she's in an important position. I'm guessing she's NYC's mayor. Does she know Mario in this continuity?
I see you there, Charles Martinet, voicing a character who looks like Mario, but it isn't Mario. ;D
Speaking of family, holy SHIT, this movie also clarified whether Donkey Kong was Cranky's son or grandson. It's the first! Granted, this might be true for THIS film only, but it's nice to hear someone lay out their relationship out loud!
It is absolutely to no one's surprise that the stand-out role is Jack Black's Bowser. Every scene he's in, he nails. He delivers with so much gusto and enthusiasm - this man clearly loved playing this guy. Dude gets a piano solo in the middle of the film (a love song to his beloved Peach, of course) because Christ, man, if you're gonna use Jack Black, then you gotta use every part of that buffalo!
I've already accepted that Peach is just the oddball humanoid out in the Marioverse long before canon established Mario and Luigi as Mushroom Kingdom originators, too. But the movie does something interesting and goes out of their way to explain why she's the only human in a sea of Toads. I imagine this could be potential material for the sequel. Like Mario, it's also hinted she, too is from Earth, before accidentally wandering into the Mushroom Kingdom as a baby. I have so many questions how this kid walked into a pipe located in a very obscure part of the NYC sewers (maybe her parents were very neglectful plumbers) and even more questions on her upbringing So, the Toads decided to just one take her in, raise her, train her, and then... crown her as their princess? This brings up the question on whether the Mushroom Kingdom started as a monarchy because of her or if they were filling in a vacant seat that they felt only she was worthy. It's such a weird, eccentric thing for the Toads to just DO, especially without a feasible explanation, but also, I feel like this is something these mushroom idiots would kind of do. I mean, have you seen them? They're hopeless.
I would have been fine if Mario learned all his acrobatic parkour skills in the training montage alone, but I actually love that he's always been acrobatic just from dodging Brooklyn's many, many, maaaaany obstacles. Is it silly? Yeah, it is, but ya know what, people do parkour in real life every day, so why not?
Mario and Luigi taking off their gloves to reveal their... hands, is weirdly off-putting to me. Like these are just CGi cartoon hands, but they have like nails and creases and stuff. And it sticks out so badly that all I wanted was for them to put the gloves back ON. Which is funny to me because official Mario renders do this all the time. Like look at a recent 3D model of Mario and see the visible strewn of hairs sticking out from his hat. I don't know why the hands don't work for me. Maybe I'm just so used to them wearing gloves 24/7. Kind of like Mario's nipples.
I suspected Luigi wasn't going to do much from the trailers I've seen, and that proved correct in the final film. He does get to use the super star with Mario to beat Bowser, but I feel it went a bit unearned. Look, if there's a choice between Peach getting kidnapped or Luigi, than I'd rather it be the latter. Peach here is leagues better than what she's originally stuck with, and it really was for the better. I just kind of wished Luigi had maybe a moment prior to the final fight where he, I don't know, gain some courage, and try to free himself and all the other prisoners. I mean, the film already squeezed in Donkey Kong's daddy issues for all the five minutes it had, I don't see why they couldn't do the same for Luigi. I feel then his team-up with Mario (which isn't thoroughly unjustified - they are the Mario Bros) would have felt like a gradual step forward with his character. Ahh well, maybe in the sequel. Which probably will happen. It'll be good news for Yoshi fans if it does, if the post-credit tease is anything to go by.
tl;dr: This is a very safe movie, though I expected it as much. It's like, there are all-age films designed for their target audience, but thoroughly enjoyable for older folks, too. And then there are kid's movie which are... just for kids. This movie is the latter. It's either that or designed for longtime/dedicated Mario fans, which I am also the latter.
I'm not entirely sure if I would consider it a fun movie, but it's not bad. Shallow, but not bad. I have no genuine grievance or high praises for it. But I enjoyed my time regardless and didn't feel like it was a waste. And hey, that's fine with me.
I will absolutely be getting this on bluray, are you kidding me? (Funny little ancedote: A kid sitting next to me in theaters was thoroughly disappointed with the movie. Like straight up groaning, because Bowser did not win. It put a smile on my face. You're gonna conquer the world, kid!)

thinking about it now, Charles Melton should've been nominated for best supporting actor instead of Ryan Gosling as Ken
This might be a hot take here on tumblr dot com buuuuuuuuut
I think Ryan’s nomination is actually deserved.
If we accept the premise of the Oscars, and accept the existence of the Barbie movie, Ryan as Ken could have come off as ridiculous and try-hard but it didn't. My one quibble is that he is too old to play Ken opposite Margot as Barbie (there is ten years difference between them, and there's only so much that makeup and moisturizer can do) but other than that, Ryan Gosling absolutely has the comedy chops and by my count he delivered an adequately charming performance.
This is an aside but something that's getting lost in the hashtag white feminism conversation is that it is narratively absurd that the film industry has rewarded the less important guy but not the literal lead girl from the feminism 101 movie. It feels intellectually dishonest to not acknowledge how on the nose this is. We can talk more about this on @fandomshatewomen if people wanna get into it.
Back to your message though, if we’re exploring hypotheticals, how about we look at the rest of the list of noms:
Tumblr media
Mark Ruffalo for Poor Things
Robert Downey Jr for Oppenheimer
Ryan Gosling for Barbie
Robert De Niro for Killers of the Flower Moon
Sterling K Brown for American Fiction
If we are swapping out someone on this list, my personal choice would be Robert De Niro, backup option Robert Downey Jr.
Both of these men are already household names, and this was not either of their best work or tbh even like among their better work. Also, neither of them “needs” this nomination, it does nothing for their careers.
But for an actor like Charles Melton who is good at his job but very much at the beginning of his career, it could mean a meaningful increase to the money his agents can negotiate for him on subsequent projects. Like yes, numbers vary, but the “awards bump” is a thing, and proportionally speaking it would mean WAY more for his career than one of the Roberts.

PART EIGHT - Replaying King's Quest, Chapter Three (2016)
I love the sunset lighting during the card game scene. I tend to love rosy light in general. (Ha- we shall see more of it in this game soon enough!)
"Ohhh, mirror which one is it?" I like to think the Mirror is both guiding him AND giving him agency. Like yes, his true love is up in the tower, but as providence would have it, there's two princesses up there, forcing him not just to say, "It's meant to be!" but to actually get to know them, fall in love naturally, and yes, choose. Because, as old Graham emphasizes, real love takes work and intentionality and re-committing every day. So it's right that if the mirror wants to guide him in the right direction to love, it won't just just show him "here's the one." It will show him, "Here's what you need to do to begin pursuing this path - but you are not locked in, and the love will be the result of the two of you choosing it, not mirror horoscopes." And on a meta level, he is an adventure game character - in a very real sense his fate is somewhat set and limited - and yet there's choice within that context.
"Please tell me this is my inside voice?" Even if it is, you literally stood up from the table and flexed your biceps for absolutely no reason during the awkward silence.
I often use icebreakers in my classes to get everyone warmed up for discussion. I have occasionally adapted Moral Quarrel questions for this purpose - they've generally gone over well.
Want to know my real answers on Moral Quarrel? Here ya go.
"A magical genie offers you one of two very specific wishes. A, you can live one life that lasts 1000 years or B, you can live ten lives that last 100 years. Which do you choose?" I choose the latter. I think I'd rather live life on a more humanly-scaled time frame.
"A rich merchant inadvertently drops one shiny, gold coin on the ground. You see a poor, hungry orphan pick it up. Do you... A, convince the orphan to be honest and return the coin? Or B, turn your head the other way and let the orphan keep the coin?" Ok, my answer to this one is nuanced. If a starving orphan takes a single coin, I'm definitely not judging her or ratting her out. However, if I suspect the merchant to be someone of good will, I might suggest to the orphan to be honest and return the coin, because in my experience most people love to reward children's honesty over this kind of thing by letting them keep the money, or even giving them more. If it's the Merchant of Miracles... not so much.
"You have been hunting for your starving family all day and only managed to catch a small goose. On your way back home a hungry beggar offers you magic beans in return for the goose. The beggar tells you that the beanstalk that sprouts from his beans will lead you to a chest that produces unlimited food. He would go after it himself, but his legs are too tired and old. Do you... A, kindly reject the offer, and bring your starving family their dinner. Or B, let the beggar eat the goose, and plant the beans in your yard?" Am I living in the world of Daventry? Then B. Am I living in the real world? Then A. But either way, this does sound a bit like a "Gold at Oyster Cove" situation. The whole, "I'd go after it myself, but I can't," thing is immediately a bit suspect.
"You are a Royal Guard on the lookout for an evil sorcerer that has been terrorizing villagers. When you finally apprehend this sorcerer you discover he is Charles, your childhood best friend. Do you A, tell Charles to leave town, and never return? Or B, throw your friend in the castle dungeon?" Most likely B. Even if he is my friend, menacing commoners with magic shows a level of corruption that probably can't just be sorted out with a simple conversation and giving it some space. If he is my friend, I probably would try to get through to him with conversation, in hopes there was still some openness there. I would let him know that he had to face the consequences of his actions and invite him to come willingly with me, and if he showed any sign of regret for his actions I would assure him that I would help to get through this as best I could. But if he refused, I would have to take him by force. I'm a royal guard, and my place is the protect the people and uphold the law - and in the end, as hard as it is, I would be doing my friend a favour too. You can't hold someone's hand all the way to the destruction of their soul. If I cared about him as a friend, I couldn't let him get away with it. (But knowing me, I would be in agonies about this - I have such a hard time being upfront with my friends about uncomfortable things. People-pleasing. Thankfully, evil sorcery is cut and dry enough that I feel like it would be easier to take a stand.)
"You are the kingdom's wizard doctor. In the middle of the night, an honourable knight and a despicable thief arrive at your door. The thief's injuries are much more severe than the knight's. Do you... A, heal the knight first. Or B, heal the thief first." I pick B, for the exact reasons Vee mentions in game.
"A man you've never met, but is known as a friendly king, sends for your hand in marriage. Do you A, accept his invitation, trusting his reputation? Or B, seek love on your own?" Definitely not A, and I would want to clarify B to include all the different kind of love, not just happily ever after.
"Would you rather A, Have a pet dragon? Or B, Be a dragon?" I don't really want either, but if I had to pick, I'd much rather stay human and have a pet dragon.
"Would you rather: A, constantly reek of syrup and not smell it? Or B, constantly smell reeking syrup?" (Did the makers of this card game perchance know Number Two? This one seems even more specific than the friendly king question.) I pick B. I could get used to it, and I'd be less self conscious about it.
"Would you rather: A, have a tail that never stops loudly tapping against the ground, or B, have noodles for hands that wouldn't allow you to pick up anything?" Definitely A. The tail might be annoying and disturbing, but I am not trading my literal hands!
"An evil, old hermit, who wants a spouse and will stop at nothing to find one, has kidnapped you and taken you to an underground cavern. During the night you sneak to the entrance of the cavern. Do you... A,escape back to your home, hoping that the hermit will learn his lesson? Or B, cause a cave-in before leaving, dooming the hermit, but saving others from potential danger?" A, with nuance. I sneak out, and I don't kill him with a cave in, but as soon as I get free I alert the town guard and send them to arrest that evil kidnapper.
"You have a job you love, as the Royal Love Doctor, but during an appointment, your best friend's husband admits to you that he is in love with another woman. Do you A, break the confidentiality policy and tell your friend, potentially getting fired? Or B, advise the man to go back to his wife and hope your friend does not find out you knew he had eyes for another." I mean, this situation should never have happened as it's unprofessional and conflict of interest. But assuming it had happened, here's what I do - I strongly advise the man to go be honest with his wife himself, because that is the only way they can possibly turn this situation around. But if he will not, I will tell him that under the circumstances, I have to tell his wife, unless he is willing to tell her himself. I explain this situation to whoever is in a position to fire me, and live with the consequences. If he won't tell, I I do it. But like I say, this should never have happened, and I would feel horrible about it.
"You are poor and a thief pickpockets your only coin, forcing you to go hungry for the night. A few days later you see the same thief get robbed of his dinner by two bandits. You chase after the bandits and get back the stolen food. Do you A, return the food to the thief? Or B, keep the food, teaching the thief a lesson?" I'd return the food to the thief. It's his food, and turnabout is not fair play in this situation. But I'd also say, "Give me my money back, you dirty... merchant!!"
I think that's all of them?
