I didn't think that the Ghibli poll would blow up in one night and I was so excited to see all the voters! I noticed some sadness when it came to the ones I didn't put in so I decided to make a part two and I can make a face off between the best to choose a winner after this! Enjoy!
There is one you may not have heard such as the red turtle. I promise i went doen the list of ghibli films and only looked for actual movies/films. It's from 2016 and i hadn't even heard about it but to those who did and enjoyed it here it is. Alright have fun! Fight fight fight!

The red Turtle
Drifts in eternity without reason or purpose
Curiosity lures her further
Further onto jutted islands
That sing gentle melodies to those who wish to hear
In the depths of darkness
On the brink of death
Lays the wandering turtle
A human stroke
Stirs the death
Awakened by his touch
Tumblr media
Through darkness and light
Through time and peril
The hand holds tight
Tight against another
For love binds all
When dark clouds roll forward
And a fire that once was
Simmers out
Touch the dying hand
For now she lets go
Back where she came
Back in the dark waters below
For the turtle is glad
Glad to have made it thus far
Without simmering out
Without letting go
One second

Beautiful animation movie that tells a lot without any words (^U^)ノ~YO
THE RED TURTLE (Tale/Surnatural) 2016 - Movie
Michael Dudock de Wit/Pascale Ferran
Rating : 10/10
Tumblr media
Between poetry, tale, and animation, The Red Turtle is one of the masterpieces that only Studio Ghibli is capable of delivering. Surprising at first, you will quickly understand what makes this anime so original: there are no words. The sound effects and the music are the only noises that will interrupt this beautiful animation that will make you dream wide awake.
Shipwrecked on a lost island, a man saves a giant red turtle who then turns into a woman. Both alone on this island lost in the middle of the ocean, they live their lives according to the vagaries of nature. Enjoying a simple life, they will go through this existence with little distraction by adapting to the whims of the ocean. Between simple joys and inevitable difficulties, this anime gives a moving, sensitive, and hard vision of the path of life. The film is both profound and worrying, giving a vision of life that questions the essentiality of existence, the core of human happiness, and the materiality of the human being. Despite the length of the film, its great beauty, both visually and in terms of the plot, will give you the impression of having spent only a few minutes in front of your screen.
A beautiful allegory of life and its pitfalls, its failures, and its pure and simple joys, The Red Turtle does the hard work of telling a story that speaks to everyone without ever putting words to the emotions. Using the complex and rarely used structure of the tale, the story perfectly embraces this form by underlining the feelings felt by the characters with simplicity and sincerity. Ending with an inevitable moral that is nothing more than the child's choice in contradiction with the parents', The Red Turtle will take you on a journey of intense emotions, wordless beauty, and the sweetness of life for an evening.
Note: an anime by Studio Ghibli but produced and written by a team including various nationalities as Japanese, Belgium, and French. A multiculturality promoted under the studio Ghibli’s flag is greatly appreciated!

here i'll spoil the red turtle (2016)
my take on this movie is that it subverted my expectations of a wordless castaway-and-animal adventure in presenting a wordless castaway-and-magic-wife adventure. my main and only issue with the movie is that i really didn't care about (what i couldn't help but receive as) yet another contrived heterosexual love story, with ... very little chemistry. which i understand resulted of the necessity to get on quickly enough to the rest of the story
but this failed to truly weigh down what is ultimately a banger of a movie. the pace, very slow, and the absence of words, left room for a enchanting amount of visual narration; and visuals, period. nearly every frame could stand in as a painting on its own, and i seriously considered stopping the movie several times just to grab a screencap and make it a wallpaper. while the romance (and the obligatory "with child") is kind of a drag, it was still sweet, and at times heartwrenching, enough to make me cry. the sound design is as subtle and restrained as the art and the pace, and it all works together beautifully. overall, it left me feeling a bit like looking at a gorgeous religious painting: "wow, subject matter aint for me. but if this isn't strikingly good"
if you're into slow movies i think you'll like it
