Little big au where Scott Hansen died in jail regretting what he did because he died alone and away from his brother and nephew. His ghost ended up within Herc's memories and his feelings, mostly dormant, 'til the Double Event woke him up the second the electric pulse hit Striker.
He got caught by it before he could return to Herc, so when Pentecost and Chuck piloted it to Pitfall, he was able to watch it all with all the horror of seeing his nephew going to the end of the world basically alone.
As he heard Chuck's final words, he took all the energy left in him. It couldn't end like that for Herc. It could not. Losing Angela, then losing him (Scott) and now losing Chuck? No, Scott needed to do something, fuck.
Pentecost would never disrespect Chuck by ejecting him, but Scott? Oh, he didn't care much about morals then. Fuck the world and the Marshall and every single kaiju and fuck bomb and the jaeger program.
Cursing a storm, Scott prefers to never reach the afterlife, using his existence to gamble for Chuck's life instead. He posseses Striker for a second, triggers everything to go faster than it physically should be capable of and sends Chuck, now passed out due the shock and other factors, towards the surface on his escape-pod.
Funnily enough, Yancy Beckets does the same for his little brother in the Anteverse. 14-10 seconds are not enough for Raleigh to make it out of the Breach alive while it was collapsing. Raleigh should be dead, given the level of radiation that a literal closing portal between dimensions implies.
But against all odds, Chuck and Raleigh end up surviving. A bit later after the final scene of the movie, Raleigh remembers he saw his brother when he was escaping the Anteverse and Yancy told him some numbers, before saying his goodbye. Raleigh must had been dreaming, but when he says the numbers out loud, Tendon clocks it as coordinates.
Chuck's there, waiting. Nothing functions on his escape-pod, nothing to help LOCCENT on the job of finding him and yet--
Chuck looks sick. Everyone thinks it's the near death experience. He doesn't talk for a while. He finds out Raleigh was the one who knew his location and goes to pick another fight, but this time Herc can see the fear that is underneath. So can Raleigh. He looks,, well he looks spooked.
Raleigh face falls immediately and Chuck just knows then and they both freeze right there in the middle of their confrontation. The hair on Herc's arms stands on point and he takes both to his office, demanding an explanation.
It lands like its own bomb on Herc's chest.
Tell your dad I'm sorry, kid. I'm sorry, okay? I--
-- couldn't stay, Rals. Not even if I wanted and believe me, I wanted. If I could--
-- but it's done now. I fucked up my time with him. With you too. Ha, I know you both hate me and you should. You should. So then hate me for this too. When you wake up--
-- you need to find him. There's no turning back time, kiddo, but this? This we can do. Find him, take him home to his dad. See that he doesn't end up like us. And Raleigh? I love you. Good--
-- bye, Charles. Be good and say goodbye for me to your dad.
Mako finds them like this: Herc wrapping his arms around both young rangers, who were too busy trying not to choke on their words and the memory to react on time. They are slightly smaller, Herc shouldn't be using his sprained arm and the entire interaction feels heavy and tired. Still, she catches a glimpse of tears when Chuck turns away and leaves, not even noticing her. Raleigh smiles softly to Herc, exchanges some words with Herc and goes after Chuck, now more serious.
When Mako looks at the Marshall, she sees grief, a terrible terrible kind that echoes with her own sorrow. She also sees pride when he opens his arms to her to offer a hug, almost shy and awkward but happy all the same.

Ok I was wondering if you could do a Raleigh Becket x fem!reader, where they just kind of have like a laid back day and relax. A day with no kaiju attacks you know? Fluff and stuff.
I don't know if this is what you were looking for, but I hope you like this. This is my first Raleigh Becket fic. I've written drabbles for him but not like a whole fic or one shot.
"It's a Date"
A/N: I actually re-watched "Pacific Rim" for this request. It had been a while. This is also my first actually Raleigh fic.
Rating: T
Word Count: ~930
Pairing: Raleigh Becket x F! Reader
Plot: You and Raleigh make plans for the future.
Contains: fluff
Tumblr media
Thankfully, it’s a slow day today. No kaiju alerts especially after the grueling day you all had yesterday successfully battling two level twos. Both the Gipsy Danger and another Jaeger took a hit, but fortunately everyone survived. Everyone deserves the break.
After you finish doing some maintenance on the Gipsy Danger, you clean your hands on a rag before heading to the showers. As you make your way, you run into Raleigh in the elevator.
"Looking good," Raleigh compliments with a smirk.
"Yes, she sure is," you glance over at the Gipsy Danger as the doors close.
"I meant you," he turns to look over at you.
You're in your greased up coveralls and black steel toe boots. Your hair is pushed back with a bandana and there's sweat and dirt smudged on your face. You're gripping onto your work gloves you’ve been wearing all day, but you know some of the filth has made it underneath your nails. They always do. Meanwhile, even with his messy hair, your boyfriend actually looks like he just came off a Men's Health magazine photoshoot after working out. His sweaty white tee clings to his body and his clean scent permeates throughout the enclosed space.
You roll your eyes at him.
"I mean it." Raleigh reaches over to pinch your cheek.
You playfully smack his chest with your gloves and giggle. His hand reaches for one of your belt loops and pulls you in closer to him. You giggle again.
"My adorable mechanic." Raleigh leans in to nudge his sweaty nose against yours, the dirt transferring over to his.
As you turn your body towards him and tip toe to meet his lips, the elevator opens and you both instantly break apart. Marshal Pentecost glances at the two of you before finally stepping in. You both respectfully address him and he acknowledges the both of you. The rest of the elevator ride is quiet while you and Raleigh throw smirks at each other behind the Marshal's back.
After you both wash all the grime off of your bodies, you both curl up in your dorm room. He’s sitting up in bed leaning his back against a pillow while reading a book and your head is resting on his lap while you’re doing a crossword puzzle.
"You think this war will ever be over?" You ask Raleigh, pausing in the middle of your game.
“I know it will.” He puts his book down and looks down at you.
“What do you think the world could be like when the war is over? You think everything will be back to normal like it was before all this?” you crane your neck up to look at him.
“I don’t know. Maybe,” Raleigh shrugs. “I never really think too much into the future. I like to focus on the present.” The back of his knuckles graze the side of your face. The corners of your lips turn up as you look up at him.
“If the war ends tomorrow, what is the first thing you would do?” Raleigh asks, bookmarking and closing his book and turning the tables on you.
“Probably kiss and hug you,” you answer.
“Okay, second thing,” he smirks and rolls his eyes.
“Go somewhere warm. Alaska is beautiful but it’s too cold for my liking. I miss the warm weather and beaches and feeling the sand between my toes. I also miss wearing cute dresses and heels,” you sigh.
“Well, I know you look cute out of your uniform,” Raleigh winks. You raise your eyebrows at him. “You look downright sexy in nothing but my shirt.”
“Raleigh!” You feel all the blood rushing to your face and you lightly slap him in the chest with your crossword puzzle book.
“But I’d love to see you all dolled up. I want to be able to take you out on a proper date one day. That’s the first thing I’d do if the war ends tomorrow.” He plays with your hair as he looks down to admire you.
“That’s the first thing you would do? Take me out on a date?” You laugh.
The two of you met after graduating from the Jaegar Academy and became close friends at first. Things evolved romantically when you and Raleigh got into a friendly but competitive combat while training. One might say the two of you are drift compatible, but you never trained to become a Ranger. You’re much more comfortable being behind the scenes maintaining the giant machines, but honestly, he is much more compatible with his brother Yancy.
Your first actual date with him was in the cafeteria during lunch time which got cut short thanks to a level one kaiju. Since then, the two of you have found comfort in and companionship with each other during these times.
“Yeah, you deserve it. A place with tablecloths and candles,” he chuckles. “And where they serve a basket of warm bread before the meal.”
“Honestly, just a warm basket of bread sounds like the most delicious thing right now. I miss good bread. Whatever they serve in the cafeteria cannot possibly be classified as bread.” You breath out a small chortle and get lost in thought, reminiscing about good food you used to enjoy and indulge in.
“We’ll get there one day. We have to.” Raleigh says, snapping you out of your thoughts. “And when we do, I will get all the fresh bread I can get my hands on, just for you.”
“It’s a date!” A wide smile spreads across your face.
“It’s a date,” Raleigh beams.

Small Joys in a Harsh World
Pairing: Raleigh Becket (Pacific Rim) x GN!Reader
Summary: Both you and Raleigh work on building the wall, and even though you’re working opposite shifts, he finds a way to make the moments you do share special.
Warnings: None.
Word Count: 611
Prompt: Birthday Cake
a/n: short and sweet today. I’m still getting used to writing Pacific Rim stuff, so this is a bit of practice for that.
MY MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Working on the wall and therefore living near it, left very little access to any sort of indulgence. There was barely enough work to keep both you and Raleigh working, let alone keep working consistently enough to create any sort of savings build up in order to afford any indulgent luxuries.
But you were okay with that. Raleigh and you had found a home in each other after terrible tragedies - Raleigh lost his brother in a fight that nearly killed him too, and you had lost your whole family during a coastal attack.
Maybe your life wasn’t perfect, it was hard, and unforgiving at times, but Raleigh was warm and his strong arms held you up when you felt you could no longer stand to bear it. Your life together was small, but your piece of the world felt like more than enough.
You and Raleigh were working opposite shifts these days, you were on nights and he was working days. Thankfully you saw each other on your way in and out for a quick kiss at the very least.
You slept most of the day today, only waking once or twice thanks to the ever present nightmares. When you woke to get ready for work though, the sun was still in the sky, illuminating your tiny apartment.
You pulled on your heavy work clothes and your steel toe boots before you heard the front door creak open.
“Baby?” Raleigh called out into the apartment.
You bounded across the space and kissed him firmly, nearly knocking him off his feet. He had one hand tucked behind his back, but the other held you so tight you felt yourself melt into his touch.
“You’re early,” you whispered against his neck as you kissed him softly on the exposed flesh.
“It’s a special occasion,” he whispered back, kissing the top of your head.
You thought hard, “What?”
He chuckled low in his throat, “You didn’t think I’d forget?”
“Forget what?” you asked, pulling back to gaze up questioningly at his striking blue eyes.
He brought his hand out from behind his back and revealed a tiny, snack cake with a small candle in the center.
“Happy birthday, baby,” he cooed at you.
You felt the emotion gather in your chest and choke you up in the throat, at a loss for words. You’d never expect him to remember that it was your birthday. You mentioned the date in passing when you first met, but hadn’t mentioned it since. You didn’t want to draw attention to the day and put any pressure on him to do anything.
“You remembered?” you managed to say, taking his cheek in one hand and brushing his face with your thumb.
“Of course, I remember everything you tell me,” he said in a soft voice.
You set the cake on the table and pulled him into a deep kiss, hoping to explain with your body what the gesture meant to you. He seemed to understand your message and returned your kiss with a thoughtfulness and a sweet intensity.
Though your time was short, and you had to hurry if you were going to luck into some work on the wall tonight and bring home any sort of food or money this week. You pulled back and split the small cake with him.
He brushed a crumb off of the corner of your mouth before you left for the night and you thought that maybe the world would be alright in the end. As long as there were men like Raleigh Becket in the world fighting the good fight, and bringing home birthday cakes, maybe humanity actually stood a chance.

So for AAW this year i decided to explore some QPRs since ive never done that before (does that even qualify for AAW?). So without further ado (i'll try to keep it quick) these are the relationships that give me the strongest QPR vibes theres no particular order just a attempted color gradient
1. Joan Watson and Sherlock Holmes (Elementary)
Tumblr media
Ive talked about these two before for AAW 2019(?) so ill touch on them briefly (and i'll put the link in the notes). Disclaimer: This is a show that i watched in bits and pieces, almost primarily from reruns. The longterm focus of this show is clearly these two's relationship. In the beginning they were stuck together, and then they chose to be together but they still had issues, at one point they stop talking to each other (like legit didnt talk one of them moved away and they didnt stay in contact), were together with issues again, and then they were primarily okay, and at one point left/fled the country together even though only one of them had to. Throughout the show there are these spoken moments that really tell the depth of their relationship, from either them or other characters. Off the top of my head theres "you named a species of bee after me," "i think shes the person you love most in this world," "i consider you to be a exceptional person. So i make a exceptional effort to accommodate you," "this is your home," "i'll stay. Of course i'll stay," and that line in the picture. They dont seem to struggle that much when it comes to describing their relationship and believe "partners" sums it up best. They live together, see each other as the most important/favorite person in their lives, and are raising a child together.
2. Aziraphale and Crowley (Good Omens)
Tumblr media
Im not sure these two count, being not human and all. In the show and in the fandom (and i assume the book) people, and they themselves, struggle to understand their relationship and on top of that they arent supposed to be on good terms with each other (one is a angel and one is a demon). Are they friends? Enemies? Boyfriends? Best friends? Crowley at one point comes to the conclusion that never having Aziraphale in his life again is worse than the end of the world. One of the definitions for a QPR is "undefinable relationship," which fits nicely here.
3. Mako Mori and Raleigh Becket (Pacific Rim)
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: i havent seen this movie since it was in theaters and therefore dont remember much. If i had know what a QPR was when i saw this movie it would have made so much more sense. One of the background themes is strong relationships (you cant power the robots without it) which includes familial, platonic, and romantic. These two were left ambiguous, all the shots were framed in that typical "they're gonna end up together by the end" way only for nothing to confirm it at the end. It was wonderful. You follow two different gendered strangers who become super important to each other and share all their darkest secrets and memories and give each other soft looks to not end up dating at the end. Wether or not you see it as a QPR its a movie that doesnt erase m/f friendship and thats just fantastic.
[sorry guys its 2am now these paragraphs are gonna be a little shorter]
4. Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau (Captain Marvel)
Tumblr media
Before Carol disappeared it was clear she was living with Maria, her best friend, and helping her raise Monica, Maria's daughter, from a young age. Its clear her "death" greatly effected them.
5. Maka Albarn and Soul Eater Evans (Soul Eater)
Tumblr media
I recently rewatched this show and their relationship on the surface seems like Two Kids Who Are Opposites And Dont Like Each Other Are Forced To Do Group Project type relationship but its actually so much deeper. They're roommates and best friends and each think the other one is the greatest person they know. They both have arcs centered around protecting the other. Soul states on multiple occasions that he's not into Maka, and Maka compares their partnership to her parents' marriage but never actually expects or acts like Soul is her boyfriend. Its clear they're gonna stay together for a long time coming.
6. Clint Barton and Kate Bishop (Marvel Comics)
Tumblr media
Okay so i could say so much on this but let me start this off with a big Disclaimer: i have not read these comics, all of my knowledge comes from fan works (like the entirety of ao3 and tumblr) and wiki pages. These two. THESE TWO. Ahhh i dont even know what to say because i dont know if this is a thing where fanon versions are entirely OOC. These guys have something like a 12 year age difference, so from the outside their relationship seems weird. People (real or fictional idr) keep trying to slot them into familial roles (big brother and little sister, uncle and niece, dad and daughter) but the truth is they're friends and partners. Ya its a little weird with their age difference but if they were both 10 years older most people wouldn't even notice the age difference. Clint makes it clear to us just how much he loves Kate. She's super important to him. Just looking for pics for this post i saw so many panels displaying how close they are. Idk if its canon or not but fanfic really gave the impression Kate basically lives part time at his place. These two give me vibes that they have the kind of closeness where they could cuddle on the couch together and it wouldnt be weird. And i mean full horizontal doing a balancing act in order to get them both to stay on the couch between the backrest and the edge so they could nap. Like if one of them was married their spouse wouldnt be surprised to wake up in the morning and find them both eating breakfast in their PJs. Like these two would kiss on the mouth but it wouldnt be romantic at all just a way to express emotion. They just give me this vibe thats led to so many headcanons and idek if its canon

Blackbird
A/N: I had some really rough weeks behind me, and they're still not over, so I needed my comfort character more than anything, and this is how this little story was born. I hope you guys like it :) I didn't proof read it, so ignore the mistakes.
Fun fact: Blackbird by The Beatles is actually one of Raleigh's favorite songs :')
warning: none, it’s just pure fluff
(again, I’m using a picture from my instagram)
Tumblr media
You never knew how appropriate it was to mention something you saw in the Drift, especially when you knew your Drift partner for only a few days.
Because Raleigh and You only knew each other for a few days, but in that few days, you drifted together many times, so this means that you knew each other more than anyone did.
And when you first drifted together, you heard a song, but you never mentioned it to Raleigh, or anyone else for that matter, because it wasn’t anyone’s business.
But you couldn’t get the song out of your head.
You caught yourself humming the song under the shower, or when you were walking in the corridors of the Shatterdome.
Once you even started singing it accidentally when you were with Raleigh, and that was the first time you talked about his favourite song, and the last time.
One day Mako and you decided to sneak out of the Shatterdome, and visit the local flea market that Mako had discovered a while ago.
She needed to get away from the Shatterdome so you agreed to go.
It took you a whole hour to get to the market, and several hours until you finished checking everything.
You were about to leave the place when you saw an older man selling vinyls, and one particular vinyl caught your attention.
“Mako, wait!” You yelled at her before you quickly rushed over to the man.
You greeted the lovely old man with a smile, then you took the vinyl into your hands.
It said:
Blackbird — The Beatles
Raleigh’s favourite song.
“How much?” You ask the old man.
After he gave you the price, you gladly paid for it all excitedly.
“How do you plan to play that?” Mako asks you.
You shrug “I’m gonna get a vinyl player.”
And you did.
You didn’t go back to the Shatterdome from the market, instead you found an electronic store, and bought a vinyl player.
And now, when you had everything, all excited, you went back to the Shatterdome.
“Have you seen Raleigh?” You ask Herc when you’re back in the Jaeger Base.
“He’s at the LOCCENT with Tendo.” Herc answers as you rush by him.
“What the hell do you have there, lass?” Herc asks you, pointing at the big box you carry.
“A surprise!” You answer excitedly as you run towards the LOCCENT.
“Raleigh!” You say immediately as you reach the communication center, making both Tendo and Raleigh look at you.
You move so quickly as you run up to Raleigh, standing on your tiptoes to kiss his cheek.
“I have a surprise for you!” You tell him.
“Can I steal him for a long moment?” You turn towards Tendo who just smiles at the two of you.
It was an open secret that you and Raleigh got closer after drifting together, but no one said anything about it, and you didn’t say anything about it to anyone.
“He’s yours.” Tendo says and you let out a little noise from being so excited.
“What’s up with you?” Raleigh asks you as you particularly drag him to his room by his hand.
“I have a gift for you!” You reply, only looking at him when he stops?
“A gift?” Raleigh asks, surprised.
“Yes.” You smile at him.
“Is it lingerie?” Raleigh smirks at you.
You let out a small chuckle “Not that kind of gift.” You step closer to him “But you gonna love it regardless.” You say before you peck his lips sweetly, then keep walking to his room, a room that you share.
When you reach his room, you open the door and push Raleigh inside, who can’t help but laugh at your enthusiasm.
“So, um.” You start, suddenly feeling really shy. “Mako and I sneaked out to the flea market today, that much you already know, and I found something that I think you’ll love.” You mumble “Or at least, hopefully, you’ll appreciate the gesture.”
You don’t know from where your sudden nervousness came from, especially since you shared your mind with Raleigh not once, and he shared his with yours.
Raleigh seeing your nervousness, he takes your face in his hands and leans down to kiss you, softly first, but it turns into a heated kiss very quickly.
“So, the gift.” Raleigh says after he pulled away from you, your eyes are still closed as you’re enjoying the pleasant feeling that you feel after your kiss.
“Hmm, your what?” you ask him.
“What you bought to me?”
“Oh, right!” Your eyes snap open, you completely forgot about his gift.
Raleigh Becket, and the effect he has on you.
“First thing first.” You say as you take your bag off of your shoulder “Close your eyes.”
Raleigh raises his eyebrows, but he closes his eyes without a question. You put the box down on the floor so you can take the vinyl out of your bag, and you hold it in front of you so he can see the cover.
“Okay, open your eyes.” You say softly.
You watch Raleigh open his eyes, and his face has confusion on it first, but after only a few seconds, his expression changes into something else.
You don’t quite know what it is, it’s a mixture of excitement, surprise, love, and he’s clearly moved by the vinyl you’re holding.
“We talked about it once, and ever since we drifted for the first time and I heard this song in your memories, I couldn’t get it out of my head. And I know how much it means to you, so when I saw it, I had to get it for you.”
Raleigh still doesn’t say anything as he’s looking at The Beatles vinyl in your hand, but he runs his hand over his face, and that’s when you see that he has tears in his eyes.
“I thought you’d like it.” You whisper “It’s ancient technology, but it’s the original.”
Raleigh shakes his head and takes the vinyl from you, he takes a good look at it before he wraps his other arm around you while he still holds the vinyl, and he hugs you so close you think you’re gonna suffocate, but you don’t care because you just made your love, your best friend, your soulmate, happy.
“This is the best thing anyone ever got to me.” Raleigh whispers, his voice is thick with emotion. “You have no idea how much you mean to me.”
“I have a good idea.” You mutter against his chest “You are the best thing that ever happened to me, and you mean the whole universe to me.”
You stand there, arms around each other for a very long time, before Raleigh pulls away.
“What’s in the box?” He asks you as he wipes his tears into his sweater.
“A vinyl player.” You shrug.
“A vinyl player?” Raleigh asks you shocked.
“Yeah, well, how would we play the vinyl otherwise?”
“I thought it was just, you know, a decoration.”
“Nah.” You smile at him “That would be too simple.”
Then Raleigh and you started to unbox the player and put it together so you could use it.
And Raleigh wasn’t hesitating, once it was ready, he put the vinyl on, and the room was filled with the song.
You look up at Raleigh and smile at him, who’s been watching you the whole time, love and appreciation is written all over his face.
“I’m not big into dancing.” He starts as he reaches his hand out to you “But I do want to dance with you right now.”
You take his hand and Raleigh pulls you close to his strong body, you can feel the heat radiating from him as you start slow dancing in your small room at the Hong Kong Shatterdome.
None of you moved to the music, you were just swinging from one side to the other, but it didn’t matter, because the only thing that mattered that you found your soulmate, the person who means the whole world for you, in the middle of an apocalypse.
You found each other in a hopeless time, and gave each other a future.

Being in a poly relationship with Raleigh Becket and Chuck Hansen would include...
They’re Jaeger pilots
You work J-Tech
This started off like that one Taylor Swift song
Anyway, you’re in charge of the maintenance for both Gipsy Danger and Striker Eureka
It’s a pretty tough job, but one you’re happy to do
They’re both beautiful beasts, really
However, Mark-3 and Mark-5 Jaegers aren’t exactly easy to fix
Especially with all the damage they take
The damage varies from pilot to pilot
In this case, from Raleigh to Chuck
Raleigh tends to be reckless at times, but Mako knows how to keep him from damaging the Jaeger too much
For your sake
Herc and Chuck, on the other hand
They’re all brute force
All strength and head-on combat with little strategy
Which means Striker is constantly in need of a little love
Okay, a lot of love
But, again, you’re happy to do your job
Especially when it means you’re one of the first few people to see your boyfriends when they arrive
You're greeted by a hug from Raleigh, who pulls you into a sweet kiss
Then practically tugged away from him by Chuck, who holds you by the hips and kisses you hard
All while Mako and Herc roll their eyes fondly at the sight
And Raleigh silently plans to kick Chuck halfway to next Wednesday for ripping you off of him like that
Now, your boys are different in many, many ways
But the one thing they have in common
The one thing that makes them toss their differences aside
Is you
Now, being in a poly relationship with these two isn’t easy in any way
You have to admit, it’s a helluva lot easier than fixing up the freakin hole Herc and Chuck somehow managed to make right through Striker’s hull last week
Which, by the way, you’re still working on
In the beginning, it was hard
Chuck and Raleigh are both hardasses
It took a lot of work to get them where they are with each other now
Sometimes, when Chuck and Raleigh fought, they’d go to check on you and find you crying over them
Over how childish and stupid they could be
So, being in a relationship with you, they both figure it’s time to stop acting like children
And finally get their act together
You often play the mediator
You try to compromise with the two of them
The rest of the workers in the Shatterdome are pretty convinced you’re like
A mutant or something
That you can control emotions
Because you’re the only person that can keep these two big babies in check
Whether it be fighting or arguing over something stupid, you can pretty much stop them with a few words
They both like to pretend they hold the power in the relationship
But they know better
You and your pretty face also know better, considering both boys are whipped
Sleeping is fun
You’re either in between the two with your head on Raleigh’s chest and your hand holding Chuck’s
Or you’re comfortable in the middle while both boys wrap an arm around you, trying to keep you as close as physically possible
I won’t lie
Sometimes, you feel like the rope in a sleepy game of tug of war
Neither of them hogs the blanket
They try to hog you instead
It’s funny, because most of the time, they’re not even conscious they’re doing this
It’s kinda cute
What’s not cute is waking up to find your entire body numb because they’re both crushing you
Kisses are also very fun
Chuck’s kisses are sweet and passionate most of the time, while Raleigh’s are a bit needier and rough
Sometimes, it’ll be the other way around
You, on the other hand, are a perfect combination of both
It all depends on the mood
But it means that making out is always a trip
You like being on Raleigh’s lap and slowly grinding on him while he trails kisses down your neck
Chuck’s lips will be on yours, his hands on your hips
And then they switch so that you’re on Chuck’s lap facing Raleigh
For two idiots that fight all the time, they’ve gotten pretty good at sharing
And they know exactly what makes you tick
Your relationship is full of ups and downs
But the ups usually overcome the downs
It’s a relationship full of love and, surprisingly, newfound respect

Chuck Hansen x Jaeger Pilot!Reader
A/N: I’m proud of this. Please don’t let it flop. Chuck Hansen and Pacific Rim fans rise! - Nemo
Warning(s): Character death. Kaiju’s. Angst
Summary: You were recruited as a Ranger to fight Kaiju’s - giant monsters from the sea. At your last stand, you join Chuck Hansen - a man you’ve had feelings for for years - to pilot Striker Eureka.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
In the depths of the pacific ocean lies a portal. We call the portal the Breach.
From that portal comes creatures from another world. We call them Kaijus.
Millions were killed before the world banned together to make metal monsters of our own to fight back. We called them Jaegers.
Due to the mental connection between the Jaeger and human, two had to pilot the Jaegers to share the mental load, meaning the two opened their thoughts and memories with each other. We call that drifting.
In 2020 when I was Seventeen, a Jaeger by the name of Gipsy Danger was manned solo by a pilot called Raleigh Becket in Alaska after his other pilot - and brother Yancy - was killed. Raleigh has - so far - never stepped foot in a Jaeger again.
----------
My sister - (s/n) (l/n) - and I pilot a Jaeger called Azurite Victory. Victory is unique, built especially for pilots like me and my sister. The only problem we had with her was exactly that; pilots like me and my sister, not for us. Out of all the Mark-4 Jaegers, she was a ‘special order’, built with speakers, and unique weapons. Her old pilots were Kye and Kade Sallow - twins from Australia - and they’d been killed during one of their first Kaiju attacks.
Even though the Victory was built for them, they weren’t built for the Victory.
When my sister and I arrived at the Australian Shatterdome in 2021, the Azurite Victory had been rebuilt, and was sitting around waiting for it’s next set of pilots. Sharing a look, my sister and I knew that she was ours. She was our Jaeger, even if we hadn’t been given her yet.
After a series of tests, the Victory was deemed ours. We were deployed for the first time a week later. Luckily, we survived. Mostly thanks to another Jaeger; Striker Eureka.
Once we were docked, we met with the pilots; father and son duo Hercules and Chuck Hansen.
Hercules - or Herc as he said to be called - was definitely the nicer of the two, he even gave us both pats on our shoulders for the job well done. Chuck wasn't so friendly. He didn't do so much more than send me a scowl before walking off with his dog in tow.
Over time Chuck grew more friendly, but he was hardly nice yet. At least he didn't frown at us when we walked past.
Then the Jaegers were said to be unnecessary - the governments had built walls around the coasts of the pacific to protect the people from the kaiju. Victory and her pilots were moved to Hong Kong, kept in the Shatterdome there until the Breach was sealed. Not a month passed before a kaiju attacked Sydney bay, crashing through the wall like it was butter. The only reason so many survived was because Striker and Hansen's stayed that little longer than us.
It became pretty clear that we were still needed. But there was only four working jaegers; Cherno Alpha, Crimson Typhoon, Striker Eureka, and Azurite Victory.
Gipsy Danger was being rebuilt, and after a talk with Pentecost I found out he was bringing Raleigh Becket back. How, I had no idea, but whatever the Marshall did, it worked. He had soon picked his drifting partner - Mako Mori.
Raleigh and Mako had capability, that much was seen through the sparring they did, but when it came to drifting for the first time, all hell broke loose. Even with everyone evacuating or trying to turn Gipsy off, it didn't work fast. Not until Herc, Tendo and Chuck were able to power down the drifting.
Apparently, Chuck wasn't very happy about what happened. Mostly about the almost dying part. He showed his displeasure in one of the worst ways possible.
I don’t know why I did it, but I went to him after he thrashed Raleigh, and Raleigh thrashed him. I, in all my stupidity, went to help clean him up. When I went back to my dorm, (s/n) said it sounded like I was telling him off more than patching him up, all the while looking at me like I’d done something she was proud of.
Considering she was in my head a lot, she knew what I really thought about Chuck. Sure, it was annoying, self-absorbed, and seemed to hate everyone, I still liked him. In the way that meant my heart and stomach turned uncomfortably heavy whenever he went out against a kaiju.
What if he got hurt?
What if the kaiju was too strong?
What if the Victory couldn't get to Striker in time?
What if he didn’t come back this time?
(s/n) said I was whipped. She was right.
----------
Soon after the Gipsy almost destroyed the Shatterdome, a Kaiju attacked Hong Kong. Alpha and Typhoon were deployed to meet the kaiju and attack, while Striker was to stay back and make sure they didn’t get through. (s/n) and I were in the Shatterdome, waiting in Azurite Victory in case Alpha or Typhoon needed help.
Raleigh and Mako weren’t supposed to be joining us. They’d only drifited once, and that didn’t end well. Pentecost didn’t want to risk it again, so they stayed with him in the control room with Tendo.
Even with one Kaiju, it became pretty clear Victory was needed. We were sent out right away, placed in the water in front of Striker, and went straight to work to try and help the others. Despite Victory's light weight, and slim build, we didn’t make it in time.
Crimson Typhoon and his three pilots were ripped apart between metal and kaiju flesh.
While we were trying to help Alpha, another Kaiju emerged, jumping on their back. They obviously saw Alpha as more of a threat, aiming their forces at the Russian Jaeger until they couldn’t handle it anymore.
Cherno Alpha and it’s pilots were killed, crushed by the kaiju’s defenses and the water.
“(y/n),” (s/n) started, looking ahead to focus on the kaijus, “There’s two of them, and one of us.”
“I know, I know. You know I know that.” I said, flexing the clawed fingers of Victory’s left hand. She was getting antsy, and making me like that too from our connection.
“One is leaving! Otachi, towards the city! We can’t go after them both.” she said, then addressed Pentecost. “We need Gipsy Danger. We can’t risk Striker getting destroyed too.”
“That’s a negative Ranger, you know it’s risky.”
“Deploy Gipsy Danger! Now!” I shouted, grunting after as we moved to fend off Leatherback from going to the city too.
“Striker engaging Otachi. Victory is free to pursue Leatherback.” Herc said over comms, disobeying Pentacost’s orders to stay where they were without hesitation.
“Victory engaging Leatherback.” My sister and I said. Even when we weren’t drifting we had an uncanny ability to talk in unison, freaking out others with it was one of our favorite things to do. “Be careful Striker.” I added, (s/n) snickering beside me.
“Copy that, (y/n).” Chuck said, and Striker went off after Otachi.
We moved fast, (s/n) deploying the bladed whip on Victory's right arm, enabling us to wrap it around the kaiju’s middle, as I extended the claws. It was supposed to be an easy kill. At the same time, Striker was preparing it’s missiles, and Leatherback emitted a wave of electricity, turning our Jaegers off completely.
Not even our comms worked anymore.
“(y/n), we need to get out of here.” (s/n) said after trying to reboot Victory, letting the straps of her harness go as she stepped free. I could hardly open my mouth to tell her to strap back in before Otachi came back around at us from the city, it’s tail came down on Victory’s head and neck, ripping the right side apart like a kid at it’s presents on Christmas.
That’s all it took for my sister to get crushed, killed by the same creatures that took our friends and family. That’s all it took for me to be ripped from the Victory’s cockpit and into the crisp dark water below along with masses of Azurite Victory’s metal plating.
I don't know how I survived the fall, but I did, and managed to stay conscious and above water until the Kaijus went far enough away for the rescue helicopters to get to both Hansen's and me.
----------
I woke back in the Shatterdome. Sitting up from the stretcher they had me on I was hit with a mass of nausea and memories, so I lay back down. There was stinging from places on my face where my helmet broke, but apart from that, the cold water, and the fact that I lost my sister and Jaeger, I was okay.
Okay enough.
“(y/n)!” I sat up again, slower, to see Chuck reach me as I was settled to be looked at by medics near one of the bay doors with Herc. “Jesus, when that kaiju... I thought you’d died.” he said, standing close by. I could tell from the way he was acting he wanted to day more. To do more. But he wasn’t that kind of person. He didn’t do ‘feelings’.
“Where’s (s/n).” I said, knowing the answer. I wondered if anyone would tell me.
“Killed in action.”
“Just like the Wei’s. Sasha and Aleksis. Yancy.” I started, wincing as a medic started patching up a cut near my eye. “We have two Jaegers. We’re losing time -”
“Don’t you start being pessimistic. That’s my job. You’re the nice one.” Chuck mumbled, looking from his father to me. “But, I mean, while we’re listing the bad, Striker only has one pillot now.”
“No, I could- Ah!” Herc said, yelling out when the medic passively moved his hurt arm. “Mate, that doesn't bend like that.”
“You’re not fit to pilot.” Herc’s medic said.
----------
Herc wasn’t fit to pilot. Both the medics and Pentecost through that, along with pretty much everyone else.
Pentecost offered to Pilot with Chuck, knowing he was either going to die in a Jaeger or stuck in a control room. Even I would’ve chosen to pilot a Jaeger instead, but he had Mako to look after. He had an army of people. He was the Marshall. He was needed in the Shatterdome.
So as Pentecost was on his way to suit up, I caught him. I explained, almost begged at one point, and somehow he said yes.
The next time I saw him, he was talking to Chuck and a confused Herc. I stepped out of the bay door and went towards the small group.
“Meet your co-pilot, Hansen.” Pentecost said, stepping aside to let me into the circle. Chuck’s mouth dropped open, then his face turned from one of shock to anger.
“Was there no one else! Why her? Why (y/n)?” he said, his hand clutching his helmet harder.
“It’s not about whether there was no one else or not. (y/n) is the best option, and she’s willing to drift with you.” Pentecost explained, and Herc looked over at me with a slight smile.
“Drifting with Chuck Hansen isn’t something for the light-hearted.” he said, gripping Ma’s leash much like Chuck did with his helmet. They were more similar than they thought. “I think I’ll owe you one for this.”
“If I come back.” I joked, pushing my own helmet closer to my chest. Maybe we were all similar.
“When you come back.” Herc said, nodding assurance at both Chuck and I.
-----------
“(s/n) and I were still drifting when she died.” I started, looking ahead, but I knew Chuck was looking at me now. “Like Raleigh with Yancy.” A moment silence passed with nothing but the clank of the elevator. “I thought I should warn you. Just in case.”
Fingers wrapped around my own, warm and rough but comforting all the same. They were his, and I’d wanted to feel them in mine for so long. He’d know that. In less than a few minutes he’d know that. It was no use hiding it now.
I curled my fingers in his, stepping closer so our arms were flush together.
“We’ll be okay.” he said to me, stiffening, and then leaning over to press a kiss to my head. “We’ll be okay.” he repeated to himself more than me.
We didn’t know each other well, but the connection was there. The bond was there. Where Herc and Chuck could drift because they were father and son, and where (s/n) and I could because we were sisters, Chuck and I could just because.
No words could describe it. We were made to drift together, and we hadn’t even drifted yet.
----------
“Preparing for neural handshake, in fifteen.... Fourteen…” Tando started the countdown, and Chuck and I looked at each other. I smiled at him.
“You ready to read my mind Ranger.”
“You should be worrying about mine,” Chuck started, mirroring my smile, “It gets pretty headstrong sometimes.” I laughed, taking a look at Chuck before closing my eyes and waiting to drift.
“Neural Handshake engaging now.”
What I thought, what I felt, made me speechless. Years of emotions, feelings, memories, and sights, all from Chuck’s point of view swept over me in an instant.
The times he wanted to hold me close, when he wanted to pull me onto him, when he wanted to celebrate successful missions with me.
You always looked so happy, I wanted to be part of that, but no one wants me around. I’m cocky, arrogant, self-assured. We’re like Yin and Yang. But I can’t help but not care what others might think. I’ve needed you near me so many times I’ve lost count.
The life he wants to live.
We’ll go somewhere quiet. Live all on our own. Max might stay with Herc, but  if you want we could get another dog. We could have two. Or five. I’d cook for you. Or I’d learn how to cook for you.
The things he wants to do.
There’s this canyon in Northern Australia. You’d love it there. The sunsets are amazing. We could watch them together. If you want, I could probably handle going to some beaches. Just for you.
The things he never said.
I love you. You’re perfect. Beautiful. Kind. Compassionate. Selfless. How can anyone not love you?
I wanted to stop it all, play it back, see it all clearer, but I couldn’t.
From the look on Chuck’s face, he felt the same. He knew everything I did, and I never had to say a word. Our complete trust was in each other. We waited so long. Too long.
“Neural handshake holding strong and steady at a hundred percent.” Tendo laughed, and suddenly hope wasn’t something so far fetched anymore.

Mako Mori for the ask me a character thingy 😊
favorite thing about them: i love. Her dkbjsklgjsjg like... i love her determination. she is such a strong character and is unlike how so many lead women are played to be: needing to be """"rescued"""" by a lead man. in her and raleigh's case, that's not true. they both have struggles and they work through that together. and the only reason mako was actually able to work through her trauma at all is because SHE was able to stand there and insist she had a place with the other pilots. because she fucking DID, she worked her ASS off to get to be one of the best pilots on fleet and she GOT THERE. not because raleigh insisted she deserved it, not because pentecost wanted to teach her a lesson about what a bad idea it was, but because pentecost saw how strong and determined and skilled she was and made the decision to say yes because of HER own merits. her own determination to get what she knew she deserved. and i FUCKING love that for her.
least favorite thing about them: it's really cheap to say "uprising" but like. uprising. the fact that she's dead. and the fact that they uhhhhhh practically nothing for her while she was alive. we get one (1) truly positive and sweet interaction between her and her brother to let us know they aren't ACTUALLY constantly avoiding or upset with each other for Feelsies and then the killed her. everything they did was for a plot point development and not. for her as a character to simply be and truly develop within the world. she felt empty compared to 2013.
favorite line: "it's not obedience, mr. becket. it's respect." or probably "it's not their problem, it's yours! your gambit! you could have taken all of them two moves earlier." UGH, YES MAKO, MARRY ME-
brOTP: hmmmmm. newt and/or hermann. i love the headcanon let me live idea that they were like uncles to her and that they took care of her sometimes in the lab while pentecost was busy or just when she wanted to visit the k-sci husbands to see what she could find or look for something to read/discover/learn
OTP: maleigh 🥺 they are just so Good, they work So Well and gdt's development of their relationship was *chef's kiss* i just want them to be happy and live on the japanese countryside with a kid and a pup and a cat
nOTP: idk mako and chuck i guess djgksjhfkslgj like. clearly???
random headcanon: i love the idea that she got a little fed up with pentecost being overprotective of her and they get into a little spat so she immediately rushes off to the k-sci lab and asks newt to help her dye some of her hair because she wants to give a big 'fuck you' to pentecost's overly professional façade and it. backfires and pentecost is just like "aw, you look good, ms. mori :)" and mako's like "??????? hm....... thank you..??" and that's how she ended up with the blue streaks. ik that there's likely some big metaphor because del toro is SUPER big on using colors that way but Just Let Me Live Okay 😭
unpopular opinion: uhhhhhh??????? idk??????? do i have one???????? man, i gotta get some controversy up in this bitch or something, i'm Weak and Normal. unpopular opinion... i don't know :( maybe my uprising take is unpopular idk
song i associate with them: circles by eden a bit tho that works pretty good in pacrim dread in general
favorite picture of them: it's not a picture but this head nod??? right here??? has me on the fucking FLOOR i FLAIL every GOD DAMN TIME i rewatch the movie and she does this

Where is my not romantic fic where Chuck and Mako join the recruitment at the same time just to find out Raleigh fucking Becket is one of their trainers.
Maybe Yancy got hurt earlier but didn't die and Raleigh got stuck on ground until they both recovered enough to pilot again??? Idk. Or maybe things were pretty good at that point and given the Becket success rate they were invited to take a brake and help train the new cadets, to pass along the experience to the future Mark-5 pilots.
In my mind it happens around 2019. Striker construction got delayed and Scott is not a criminal (or an asshole), so he's still piloting Lucky Seven with Herc. Chuck doesn't have to join at freaking 16 years old and Mako is there to play the rival part, simply because I'd enjoy greatly seeing their competitive sides fire up each other while Raleigh tries and fails to figure out what's going on.
Yancy is 24 years old, Raleigh is 21yo, Mako and Chuck are both 16yo but they'd graduate almoat with 17yo. Thry are the youngest duo to graduate at the Academy, beating Raleigh old record.
Now, 'cause I love the drama: Raleigh is there working with the Jaeger Assault Specialist instructor. In this scenario let's believe that the instructor saw the way the Beckets used improvisation to surprise attack the kaijus and convinced Pentecost to teach that too to the cadets. Somehow it worked. Pentecost is not very happy (he's pretty sure he'll have to deal with way more insubordination in the near future), but he can't deny the stats and maybe MAYBE feeling the way of the cadets in their hands would help the Beckets grow up and get their shit together.
He is both regretting it with all his will and thankful those fuckers did their job right as he watches Raleigh and Mako fall down from the sky after killing Otachi, but we're 6 years too fast.
Back at Jaeger Assault classes.
The thing is that both Mako and Chuck are kinda geniuses at that. Even from their first simulation. They were the only two to kill the respective kaiju in their first simulation. This is because 1) at this point they the rivalry is intense, 2) they're both nerds that spend the previous week watching jaeger fight videos to study the kaijus, 3) they grew up around three of the best pilots in the program.
Raleigh doesn't know any of it, of course. He hasn't meet Herc yet (Manila happens later in 2020 in this fic) and he has no way to know about Stacker history with Mako. Buuuut our loved Raleigh is a bit too blunt at this point in time, so he congratulates them, not without warning them about how that first win meant nothing in real life. So what if they are a bit ahead of the rest? Things would even out in no time. With a real kaiju you have no footage to study, no way to predict the movements of an algorithm. Impressive, but it's just the first day.
He doesn't say it in a mean way, of course. The accident that hurt Yancy changed his perception. He doesn't want the kids to get cocky like him and commit his same mistake. The instructor is actually very happy to see him talk like that and reinforces what he just said. The problem with this? He accidentally humiliated Mako and Chuck in front of the other cadets. Mako is upset and determined to prove is not only theory, but real skill and great decision making from her part. Chuck is another story; Raleigh is his enemy and he must destroy him. Aka he wants to humiliate Raleigh back and prove he is superior than any past pilot.
Bonus points is Raleigh is hella charming and equally soft in his puppy way, not at all the bragging rockstar everyone was expecting. Like yes, there's a bit of that, but he also sits with the cadets and answers their questions and makes them laugh. He tells them some embarrassing stories of him and Yancy to show them how even the active rangers have to deal with normal stuff. When he talks 'bout other pilots, he is respectuful yet sincere. He is a terrible flirt but so endearing. And he is handsome handsome, okay?
It's not a romantic fic so it leads nowhere, but Mako and Chuck have a bit starstruck even if they hate the man a little. Actually they both like Yancy the better as a friend or co-worker because he is a bit more mature. Whenever he visits Chuck and Mako almost glow with mischief. They love when Yancy makes his brother look childish, when he corrects him or makes him blush of embarrassment too.
If only Raleigh wouldn't laugh like an angel afterwards so they could enjoy their victory in peace.
Raleigh is not there for their final simulation or their graduation because Manila happens. Yancy is healthy, G. Danger is repaired and Raleigh is excited to show off all he learned training with the cadets. Scott gets badly hurt, enough to end his career, but he's alive. The Beckets made it again, Herc is grateful to no ends and while Herc appears around the bar for a while to celebrate with the rest of the teams, they talk about the possibility of not repairing Lucky Seven and straight up going for Striker with Chuck as the co-pilot.
The Beckets don't return to Kodiak Island after that. They got back to Anchorage and after some months, face Knifehead. If Yancy dies, rhen well... The story could be almost the same except everyone has history now. Or maybe Mako convinces Raleigh to stay now that they are more like friends and he keeps teaching at the Academy as Mako leads the G. Danger restoration program.
If Yancy doesn't die but he can't pilot again, the. maybe Mako joins the fight sooner with Raleigh while Yancy teaches cadets. Now, if Yancy doesn't die and can pilot, and if we say Scott can pilot too, then maybe we can get Mako and Chuck co-pilots of Striker.
It all depends.

“Pacific Rim asker!! (last one i'm so sorry fhjdf) i forgot AGAIN!!! my partner (Chuck) and I (Raleigh) were also present and returned to the PPDC for the events of Pacific Rim: Uprising so we're definitely okay w talking to ppl from that as well!!”

The Witch Court - Multifandom Crossover
Okay, so I had an idea like two cups of tea in to my morning routine. Since I’m a multi shipping, multi fandom whore and therefore, this. It spawned from this photo from the Met Gala of Saoirse Ronan and Florence Welch, which got my brain thinking, WITCH COURT AU. Stay with me here.
Saoirse, Florence, Gemma Chan (who was wearing this at the Met Gala but was also a witch in FBAWTFT), and Jameela Jamil as the witch queens of Britain who are holding court coz there’s a rotating system of hosting the court whatever just fucking roll with me here
Steve and Tony arriving in full armour - so think the Mark 50 nanotech (check this list) that comes through like Thor and Loki changing clothes in Ragnarok, and Steve coming with the shield strapped to his back, and everyone catches a whiff of something feral coming off him but no one says anything because with the feral comes the taste of blood as well
Stephen Strange. Just. Stephen Strange.
Tang Yi and Shao Fei (HIStory3) coming in all cool and shit, and everyone thinks that Tang Yi is the more powerful of the two but really Shao Fei is the one who wields the elements and Tang Yi is his anchor.
Zhanying and Jingyan (NIF) walking in with very little fanfare even though they are both immortals from Ancient China, and if rumours are to be believed, Jingyan was also once an Emperor who had the ear of a Divine Talent...
Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy (Into the Spiderverse) who are both talented Weavers in their own right; both of their magic manifests in shapes of webs and they both play with cats cradles? Is that what they’re called? Anyways, they are the youngest on the court.
Nakia and Okoye arriving with Shuri (Black Panther), escorting her as the representative of the Wakanda court. Theirs is a secretive court. Not much is known except for whatever they deign to share.
Mako Mori and Raleigh Becket (Pacific Rim) as representatives of her father the Lord Pentercost. Their magic is more mechanical and more steampunk(?) but Tony is very interested and there could be an exchange of ideas between their courts.
Vanessa Ives and everyone in the crew from Penny Dreadful because I want her there and can you imagine Eva Green dressed in period clothing reading her tarot cards whilst the court is in session. She doesn’t speak unless spoken to, but when she does, everyone listens because word is she has a direct line to Satan himself.
Sabrina and her Aunts (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) because it would be a crime not to have Miranda Otto as Zelda on that court.
I’m running out of juice so I’m gonna stop here. I’ll add more in reblogs of this post when I get more ideas.

Anyone can fall...
So, as some of you may already be slightly aware of, one of my favorite characters of “Pacific Rim” that I strongly relate to is Chuck Hansen.
Therefore, I became curious to see if there was any information on if or how Chuck’s sacrifice was being honored and remembered in “Pacific Rim: Uprising”, and googled “Pacific Rim uprising Chuck Hansen Wall of Heroes”.
This lead me to a preview of the “Pacific Rim: Uprising” official novelization of the movie on Google Books, written by Alex Irvine…
And then, while reading a few excerpts from that book (since I’m a total spoilers brat), what I saw in there spurred me to do another Google search for more details regarding something I found about Raleigh…
Which lead me to a similar preview of a book called “Pacific Rim Uprising: Ascension” written by Greg Keyes, that is meant to be the prequel novelization of “Pacific Rim: Uprising”.
And from there, all I will say is to click on “Keep reading” bellow only if you know what you are doing, and wish to be spoiled regarding Raleigh Becket’s current whereabouts and what he’s been doing in between “Pacific Rim” and “Pacific Rim: Uprising”.
Extremely heavy spoilers for “Pacific Rim Uprising: Ascension” under the cut.  Read only if you truly want to know before you read the book (as I’ve read that Raleigh’s whereabouts in “Pacific Rim: Uprising” are not addressed in one of the movie reviews I saw.  So there are no actual spoilers for the movie itself, only the book dealing with what happens in between the two films).
Still here?!
Good!  Sort of...  First, you will need a box of tissues, some chocolate or ice cream, and possibly someone to hug you after...
Because as I was saying, when I clicked on the preview regarding Chuck Hansen and the Wall of Heroes, I came upon this:
Tumblr media
And went: “Wait. Fallen Rangers… Yancy AND Raleigh?! OMG!!! What happened to the puppy?!”
Tumblr media
So, I continued to search the preview, and then came across this…
Tumblr media
And noticed the year…
2026!!!
The Breach was closed in 2025… Meaning Raleigh wouldn’t have remained in the world he helped save back then for more than roughly a year (or perhaps close to two, should that have been late 2026 given that the Breach was closed in the beginning of January 2025).
Tumblr media
Doing some research, I then found a reference to it in “Pacific Rim Uprising: Ascension”, where Mako recalls what happened to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And JFC! I wasn’t ready!
Tumblr media
Because he died in the most Raleighesque fashion ever, quietly reassuring Mako that it’s okay – that all you have to do is fall… Anyone can fall…
Before drawing his last breath, Raleigh used the same words he said to her when he saved her life, finally coming to terms with having been unable to save his brother’s.
The same words that have always made me wondered if what Yancy had been trying to tell Raleigh before his own life, and sentence, were tragically cut short, wasn’t something along the same idea...
Something Raleigh wouldn’t truly have gotten until he found himself in a similar position of needing to help the one between them with the most chances of surviving - someone he loved and had chosen to become responsible for - carry on...
Raleigh told Mako “I felt his fear, his pain, his hopelessness and then…he was gone,” and somehow, I’ve always believed that Yancy’s despair and fear came in large part from knowing he’d be leaving his little brother behind, and there was no time for him to make sure he’d be okay or to protect him from suffering the same fate.
Sure, seeing a Kaiju stare you down like that knowing you’re utterly exposed and vulnerable to its next attack is plenty terrifying on its own (unless you’re a Hansen with a flare gun. But that’s another story!).
But copilots also know the depth of each others’ souls. Meaning Yancy likely would have known just how much Raleigh relied on him and looked up to him. I can’t remember if it’s Del Toro or Beacham that once expressed the belief that, should their roles have been reversed, then Yancy likely would have stayed with the PPDC and/or continued to get actively involved in some capacity with the war efforts (building walls one doesn’t believe are actually helpful to numb the pain and pass time doesn’t quite fit that category).
That is not to say that Yancy wouldn’t have been greatly affected by Raleigh’s passing, but they seemed to have different sets of coping skills, levels of overall impulsiveness and emotional maturity. Not to mention that Yancy was established as the dominant copilot, the one having chosen to take responsibility for his little brother after their parents died, and having adopted more or less the role of a mentor and a guide to his younger sibling.
Losing someone whose well-being you feel responsible for has the potential to deeply affect you, and perhaps recovering from that will be extremely difficult (and accompanied by feelings of wrongness and failure). But you might be less likely to feel utterly lost and destabilized than if you’re losing the person you’ve been actively relying on to guide you through life until then.
And Yancy did express frustration with Raleigh for lacking initiative in “Tales from Year Zero”. He might have gone about it the wrong way (while reacting defensively to Raleigh’s own anger over the fact that he’d slept with a girl that Raleigh had expressed what Yancy thought was just a passing interest for); but the message was still there – if Raleigh wanted certain things in life, he had to take that clear first step towards them, and stop waiting on them to happen on their own, or for others to lead him towards them!
So, there was that slight annoyed “Jesus, Rals! Don’t blame me for us sharing a lot of interests and wanting some of the same things you do in life – go for them!  I don’t need to oversee or approve of everything you do, Kiddo!  Why didn’t you call that girl, or clearly told me you had feelings for her?  What’s stopping you from taking charge and leading the way, too?” big brother vibe I got from him.
If Raleigh had been the one to die during Knifehead’s attack, I thus think it would have made sense that Yancy would have been able to maintain his footing, and continue to get involved in something that mattered to them both. Or, that he would have found another way to keep on going while honoring his brother’s memory, and mourning his loss.
While Raleigh got the Jaeger back to shore, but then seemingly didn’t know what to do with himself anymore. Not until he reluctantly allowed someone else to take his hand and guide him back to where Stacker believed he was still needed and could do some good.
And deep down, I think that Yancy knew something like that was bound to happen should Raleigh make it out alive. And that his “Raleigh, listen to me – ” might have been his last heartbreaking and desperate attempt to protect his little brother, and let him know that he was much stronger than he gave himself credit for. That he could do this without him, and it would be okay.
Anyone can fall… All he had to do was fall…
Everyone falls, multiple times, every day. Sometimes, you choose to take a chance, jump and start falling while hoping you’ve made the right choice and there’s a soft landing at the bottom.
Sometimes, things happen that will push you, and make you fall towards something good, bad, or even neutral.
Life is unfair, bad things happen to good people, but there are those times when you stumble face first into little miracles that remind you some risks are worth taking, and life’s still worth living.
You fall in love, you fall for an exciting project or idea, you fall back on unexpected new resources you didn’t even realize you had, or you just fall – let go of things outside of your control and find peace in the act of falling alone.
Falling can be scary, falling can be hard, falling can be easy, but it can happen to anyone. And that’s okay.
Sometimes, falling is all you can do
Meeting Mako gave Raleigh the push he needed to fall out of that frozen, numb state he’d kept himself in for five years, start growing again as a person, and actively take initiative. He fell for her – for her passion, her drive, her desire to achieve something deeply meaningful to her, and became dedicated to nurturing that passion and helping her achieve those goals. He became another guide and mentor figure in her life, a positive leader, the supportive “dominant copilot” that Yancy had always been to him.
And in his last moment, according to this, it would seem that Raleigh was given the opportunity that Yancy never had - the chance to quietly remind Mako that all you have to do is fall… Let go, find peace, keep on living and falling… Believe in yourself, and take those chances…
And while she keeps on falling through life, Raleigh will be falling back asleep - falling alongside his brother and all those other Rangers that have fallen before him…
As much as I’ve always said that I’d have been okay with Raleigh not surviving Pitfall while watching the movie because I got that sense of peace and acceptance from him, and was grateful he’d been given the chance to find it – the chance to learn who he was, individuate from his brother, connect with his own hidden strengths, and realize that he was capable of the same heroism, love, and selflessness that I don’t think he’d ever realized was there before, but I’m sure Yancy always saw in him…
I WAS NOT READY TO EXPERIENCE SO MANY FEELS OVER IT, DAMNIT!
Tumblr media
I’m not even sure if that preview really is the official version of the final book, or if some things have been changed since, but if it is, that’s a very beautiful and moving (though very painful) ending for Raleigh’s story…
I may have had that slight moment of anger and indignation over the fact that Raleigh only survived Pitfall to then develop a bad case of alien radiation poisoning that ended up being fatal to him, apparently...  But that’s in great part due to the fact that I know that his death wasn’t originally planned to happen at the end of the first movie.
There’s this little part of me that can’t help but feel some bitterness over the idea that they were looking for an excuse to get rid of the character permanently, since Charlie Hunnam asked to be released from the contract that could have forced him to do the sequel in order to do the movie “Papillon” instead.
It’s hard not to consider the fact that, although they said they understood and respected his decision, eliminating any possibility of having him return to the franchise later on might have been some way to make him ‘pay’ for it and entirely cut any ties he could have had with the series.  Though, with what I’ve seen and heard about the sequel thus far, I’m not exactly unhappy that Raleigh’s character won’t be directly affected by it.
But, if we forget the idea that the politics of film-making might have had a role to play in the storytelling choices they made with Raleigh, I find myself being glad that Raleigh had the chance to rise back to the surface after completing his mission, open his eyes – learn that all the efforts and sacrifices that were made to close the Breach were successful - and be given the chance to properly spend some time with his co-pilot and say goodbye before closing them, and falling for that one last time in his life.
(And I won’t even try to pretend that the Chaleigh shipper in me is not comforted by the thought of them being reunited so soon after Pitfall, since I have a very hard time dealing and coping with fictional lovers or even potential love interests being separated by death.
It’s that thing I have…
Real life? 100% in favor of the surviving member of a relationship learning to properly mourn their loss, go on with their life, and use the love they’ve experienced to help them grow while keeping the memory of their partner alive. The death of a surviving partner is not remotely being perceived as a more acceptable nor comforting alternative to them living long and happy lives and recovering from their loss.
In fiction? What do you mean one of the two characters just died? Nonsense! Tell the idiot to walk it off, or the other to hurry up and catch up with him if it’s not something you can walk off from to fix it!
Which Raleigh sort of did… Apparently…
Okay, one of the main differences and possible explanations is that in real life, I don’t know if there’s an afterlife.  So, I’m of the rather strong opinion that you better not waste any of the time you’ve been given, since that may be all you have.  And the only immortality you can achieve is through the love and support you can offer others - those other lives you touch and connect with - so that they will be able to carry that love with them through their own lives, become stronger for it, and, in turn, offer love and support to others, too.
Then again, perhaps each of us has some form of individual spiritual entity that survives beyond death, but I simply do not know, so I won’t bet on it until I do.
In fiction?
Tumblr media
You can bet there’s some sort of afterlife where characters are happy and at peace and continuing their adventures together!  Damnit!  Not even willing to consider otherwise! Lol!
Tumblr media
Bring on all that juicy and comforting Chaleigh afterlife fanfiction, so Raleigh can be given a proper greeting after having crossed over, yes?
Poor little puppy deserves some love after having been poisoned to death by the Anteverse...
Becket brothers reunion is also a must!  I say!)
Still haven’t found what happened to Herc, by the way! But his name is not yet featured on that Wall of Heroes besides Chuck’s, so I guess that means he’s still alive somewhere, at the very least. Though I’m starting to wonder how many characters from the original movie will still be left breathing by that time “Pacific Rim: Uprising” ‘s credits start rolling.
At least, if that really is the ending they chose for Raleigh, that means he is in a safe place with other beloved characters from the first movie they can’t hurt or touch anymore… Though, at this pace, we’re starting to move from “there are no heroes in a world where heroes can’t die” to “all heroes of the Breach must die”.
At least, the more it goes the more they can expect to have one Hell (or Heaven) of a welcoming party when they join the rest of the group!
Along with the Jaegers they lost because I’ve suddenly decided they’re totally sentient!  Don’t question it!
So, good morning (or apparently, afternoon) everyone! Hope you’ve been enjoying those feels you totally didn’t ask for as much as I did last evening when I came across those few passages!
You’re totally welcome!

Okay so I saw Pacific Rim: Uprising and I am majorly salty about everything so here are some serious spoilers about why I’m pissed off.
Okay first and most importantly, what happened to all the heroes of Pacific Rim? We get over and over again that Stacker Pentecost sacrificed himself to save the world and I’m not denying that he did, but the only reason it matters in the movie is because it relates to Jake. Hot take, but Pentecost was already dying of radiation poisoning. He went down in a Jaeger but he was a dead man one way or another. What about Chuck Hansen, the world’s youngest Ranger, who was 21 years old and said he wanted to come back from the mission alive because he liked his life, but who sacrificed himself anyway?  What about Herc Hansen, who literally lost a child years after losing his wife? He’s still alive and there’s no mention of where he is and what he was doing despite the fact that he was the Marshall at the end of the first movie. What about Raleigh Becket? The literal main character of the first movie? We never even get a hint about what he’s doing, even though Mako is in the movie and could have made some throwaway comment at least.
Mako Mori gets maybe 5-10 minutes of screen-time total before she’s killed off. What the hell? One of the few characters from the first film who actually makes an appearance and she’s basically just killed off to add to Jake’s drive or something. It’s ridiculous.
Oh yeah speaking of characters who are back, Newt is the main villain of the movie. I was really hoping the rumours were wrong, and the reason he’s “bad” is absurd as it is.
The completely unnecessary love-triangle subplot that went nowhere. Both Jake and Nate were interested in Jules. That could have been cut out totally, but we gotta have a forced heterosexual romance of some description. Except we don’t, because there wasn’t one in the first film.
The whole bullshit about having to be young to have a strong neural connection because there was nothing to indicate that at all in the first film. Chuck was the youngest pilot, most of the others were in their late 20s, 30s or even 40s. A strong neural connection is based on how close you are emotionally with the person you’re Drifting with, not your age.
I mean like maybe if Pacific Rim didn’t exist I wouldn’t be so mad about all of this but it does and it’s like the only thing they didn’t disregard was Stacker Pentecost, solely because it’s a trump card used against Jake all the time. How much his dad sacrificed, how much of a hero his dad was. We get it.
Give me my prequel dammit. Give me the glory years of the PPDC. Fanfiction’s better than this.

Forever is a long time
Anon asked:  “8) “I just wanna lay in your arms for the rest of my life.” With Raleigh Becket please ❤️
A/N: Raleigh Becket, my baby, my sunshine, my hubby, and my comfort character, who I love more than anything. I really love writing for Raleigh and I really loved writing this, so I only can hope that you guys will love it as much as I do. Raleigh really does mean so much to me so I tried to perfect this as much as I could, and I only can hope that I succeeded.
WARNINGS: none, it’s a bit melancholic in some places, but it’s mostly fluff
It’s not easy to carry the burden of saving the whole world on your back, knowing that billions of lives are depending on you and Raleigh.
But it’s over now, you saved the world with your drift partner, Raleigh, and after many, many tests, both of you were okay.
But the trauma you went through doesn’t go away quickly, you know it will take years, and you’re not even sure that it will disappear.
The only reason why you haven’t gone completely mad yet is that you have Raleigh, someone who shared the same experiences with, and most importantly, your mind.
Once you have been in someone’s head, there isn’t much to talk about. But it’s okay, you think. The comfortable silence you share with Raleigh is better than anything, knowing that you have him, and he has you.
Because that’s the truth, even though you know each other for a few weeks, your minds and hearts are connected, you’ve became one.
Ghost drifting is an interesting experience, you’re no longer connected to a Jaeger, to a machine, to connect your minds, but somehow your minds still find a way to connect, share memories again, and current thoughts, hopes, and dreams.
Because both you and Raleigh have hopes, and maybe dreams now, that you got your future back. And of course, it’s with each other. Both of you are dreaming of a future where you’re together, and you’re finally happy, and you don’t have to worry about monsters coming from the sea to destroy you and your world.
And this is what you’re doing right now, laying in bed with Raleigh, silently, thinking about your future with him. You don’t have to tell him what you’re thinking, your minds are connected again, so he knows every thought running through your mind, every memory, every feeling, and you know his. You don’t know yet where you will go after the Shatterdome closes for good, none of you have a home, nor family, but you have each other.
You have each other, in each other’s arms.
With your ear pressed to Raleigh’s chest, you can hear his steady heartbeat thumping against you, your head rises every time he breathes.
He’s here, safe.
You try to push away the memory of you hugging Raleigh’s body, thinking he’s gone, and you lost him too. But then he finally breathed “You're squeezing me too hard.” against your neck, and the euphoria you felt when his words finally reached your brain, telling you that he's here, with you, and he’s fine.
You forever will be connected to him, with your minds, and heart.
You feel Raleigh hug you closer, pulling you even closer to himself if it’s possible, since your bodies are already pressed together.
“I know.” is all what Raleigh whispers against your hair, breathing your scent in, allowing it to fill his lungs and relax his entire body, and soul.
“I just wanna lay in your arms for the rest of my life.” you whisper against his chest, placing a soft skin on his clothed muscles.
“You will. We have all the time in the world.” Raleigh told you.
And it was the truth. You had a lifetime to spend with each other, and so you did.
After the closing of the Shatterdome, Raleigh and you moved to a small town in Alaska. That’s where he was from, and he wanted to go back, so you agreed. It’s not like you had anywhere else to go, but even if you did, you’d have followed Raleigh anywhere.
You belonged to him.
You belonged together.
So you bought a small cottage house in a small town in Alaska, close to the sea what Raleigh was insisting on. You didn’t have to ask why, you knew it already, you knew from memories, not yours, that your house is looking at the same beach where Raleigh landed with the Jaeger alone, after he just lost his brother, Yancy.
The house was small, but really lovely. It didn’t have any other houses nearby, it was pretty far from the city, but not too far, and the beach was close, plus you had your own garden which Raleigh loved. He kept himself busy in the garden, he grew his own vegetables, which he was really proud of, and loved to cook with them.
And you loved Raleigh’s cooking, oh you really did. You loved to sit in the kitchen with Raleigh while he was cooking, talking with him about anything and everything, and you loved to eat everything he cooked, because to your surprise, he was a good cook.
Your garden also had a shed, in which Raleigh spent a lot of time in, he was still struggling with his insomnia, so you often woke up to an empty bed at nights, and without looking, you knew he was in the garden, doing whatever he did.
You didn’t ask, and you didn’t want to. It’s not like you had any secrets from each other, not after you’ve been in each other’s heads several times, it was more about giving each other some privacy, and complete trust.
On your birthday, you woke up to an empty bed again, but you could smell some amazing scents coming from downstairs, you knew that Raleigh was preparing your favorite breakfast for you, and you waited for it in the bed. You didn’t have to wait long until Raleigh appeared in the bedroom with a tray, your favorite breakfast and a cup of tea on it, with a beautiful rose in a vase in the middle.
“Happy birthday, my love.” Raleigh smiled as he sat down on the bed next to you, putting the tray in your lap.
“Thank you.” you give him a sweet, lingering kiss.
After breakfast he wanted to show you your birthday gift, so he led you downstairs, outside to the porch, his hand covering your eyes the whole time.
“Open your eyes.” you hear Raleigh’s voice close to your ear.
When you opened your eyes, you gasped.
There was a swing bed hanging from the ceiling of your porch, made by Raleigh himself.
“Do you like it?” Raleigh asks nervously, and you turn towards him, tears in your eyes.
“Raleigh, are you kidding? I love it so much, thank you!” you wrap your arms tightly around Raleigh’s neck, hugging him close to you.
“I saw in your memories how much you love these things. So I built you one.” you feel your tears fall from his words.
“No one ever did something so beautiful for me.” you sob into his neck, and you feel Raleigh’s arms tighten around you.
“I have one more surprise for you.” he whispers and kisses your forehead before he pulls away from you.
Raleigh cupped your face in his hands, they were rough from the months of wood work, but you loved it.
“After losing my brother, Yancy, I felt so lost. I didn’t have anyone, and nothing made sense. I was alive, but I wasn’t living, I was sitting in self pity, and I felt miserable, and lost hope. Until I met you. When we were in the Kwoon, fighting, and felt our minds connect for the first time, without any machines, it was just us. I knew it. I knew we were something special, and after we piloted Gipsy Danger for the first time, and we really had our minds connected, it was confirmed. I started feeling hopeful again, even though the world was ending, I felt somehow happy that I found you, and we could spend our last few days with each other. But we saved the world, and you saved me. And I’m forever grateful for that.” You see Raleigh pull a small, velvet box out of his back pocket before he kneel down in front of you. “Would you make me even happier, and become my wife?”
You were fully crying by the time Raleigh asked THE question, all you could do is nod furiously.
“Please, say it.” Raleigh asked you with a desperate voice and hopeful eyes.
“Yes! Yes, Raleigh, of course!!” you don’t even wait for him to put the ring on your finger, you jumped into his neck, sobbing.
Your wedding was small, it was only you and Raleigh at the town hall, none of you mind it, but both of you wished your loved ones would be here. But it wasn’t possible.
Years passed, and you made this small house your home with Raleigh. You expanded your little family first with a black, stray kitten Raleigh has found one day, you immediately adopted him. The kitten adored Raleigh, and Raleigh adored the kitten, he followed Raleigh everywhere, and he was always sitting with him in the kitchen when he was cooking, watching Raleigh’s moves.
The two of you went into the town more often, actually you made friends, and everyone knew who the two of you were.
Heroes.
Heroes who saved the world.
You were mainly friends with families with young children, but the kids didn’t know who the two of you are.
And that’s good like this, you thought. And Raleigh agreed.
They were too young to remember the horrors of a Kaiju feared world, and their parents didn’t talk to them about it.
And that’s okay. It’s over now.
Many nights spent with little kids lead Raleigh and you to the decision that you should have a baby on your own. In any other circumstances, you’d have never brought this up, but you have a future now.
A little over a year after you and Raleigh started trying, your son, Yancy was born. Deciding the name was easy, although Raleigh was too shy to bring it up first, but he didn’t have to, you told him you wanted to name your son after his brother. Raleigh cried when you told him this, making you cry too, but he happily agreed.
Raleigh was a partner in your pregnancy as much as he could, he helped you in everything.
This wasn’t different when it came to giving birth, he was by your side the whole time, helping your son to the world.
When Raleigh held his son in his hands for the first time, he cried, and promised the boy that he will protect him no matter what, and he forever will keep him safe.
And he did.
As the years passed, Raleigh was an amazing father, and you an amazing mother.
Years turned into decades, you grew older and older with Raleigh by your side, your son grew up, and he got married. A few years after his wedding, his first child, a little girl, was born.
Your grandchild.
Raleigh and you were grandparents now, and the world was still safe, thanks to you.
A/N: I only realised after several readings that I, by accident, gave Raleigh a black cat and made the cat watch him while he cookc, which is exactly what Charlie has talked about in an interview when he said his black cat always watches him cook. This is just me rambling about how he really lives in my head rent free.
