we know sweet girl is always cold and finnick is the warmth to contrast that, her sun to keep her from freezing "you take me in your arms, suddenly there's sunlight all around me, everything bright and warm and shining like it never did before and for a moment I forget just how dark and cold it gets."

readers anxiety about not being worthy and deserving suffering is so, "I don't know how or why. who am I, that I should get to hold you?"

and then the feeling when she's in the Capitol and can't verbalize how she's feeling, she just needs people to know because it's all too much. she doesn't want to be unreadable, she longs to be herself again but isn't quite there yet.

then out of all the negative, twisted memories, the positive anecdotes she does have. and the way she's so scared but still longs for finnick regardless.

a small time to flash back to wedding song because on a fluffier note it's so a back and forth between them

okay and the way reader views herself and what Snow manipulation to hijack her, and how they always mention fate is tearing them apart is very akin to when the chips are down.

ganyu who'd lay on your lap after a lengthy day, wanting your familiar comfort before heading off to rest.

You both watched the birds fly from the mountains, off to who knows where. While ganyu observed one take off, she noticed 2 rare glaze lillies right where the bird was.

"y/n.. Look at those glaze lillies!" Ganyu points out

You look to where she was pointing to "Oh wow! Thats rare in these areas. Cmon, lets take a look."

Ganyu follows your steps to the ancient flower. Once she sat by it, the half-qilin hummed a tune to it. Glaze lillies are known to read human- or immortals hearts. If the atmosphere is happy, the sound of music is lively, the glaze lily will open. If they aren't, and the surrondings are full of negative thoughts, the flower will wither away. It can listen to peoples singing aswell! Which is why ganyu wanted to experiment with it

Her voice was a gentle tone, a tone that calmed your senses. You closed your eyes to focus, and opened them again once she had stopped.

Ganyu touched a petal of the glaze lily, inspecting it to see if there was any effect. "Im not the best at singing, b-but i'd like to know what you thought!"

"It was great ganyu," You put your hand on hers and smiled "Your singing voice is notably clear."

Her cheeks went red after hearing such compliment "Thank you.. Ah! Look at the glaze lily on the left."

Your attention transfered to that flower, and because it listened to ganyu's sining, it bloomed.

"These flowers never fail to amaze me. I've heard that the geo archon is fond of this flower too. Dont you agree?" You say to- wait.

She didnt come up with a proper reply, but instead nodded. Not long after, she picks herself up and slightly shakes your hand, like a signal to get up. So you proceed and go back to the two glaze lilies.

She places her hand on your cheek, picks up the same left glaze lily that bloomed from its stem and puts it on your braid.

"Perfect! But... I have one more request." Ganyu shyly states, then continues

"Sing for me? Could you make the other glaze lily bloom?"

Xiao

He comes closer, I mean, its you anyways.

- Zheng Yi Sao’s reveal from soup lady to Pirate Queen. Never been another like it.

- Zheng and Auntie have a dynamic that reminds me of a much healthier and better adjusted Ed and Izzy—Auntie calls Zheng out for getting distracted by Olu but doesn’t stop her or interfere, Auntie is the harsh voice of Zheng’s orders and her enforcer with the crew but isn’t cruel, and Auntie clearly respects the hell out of Zheng and supports what she built with her piracy career, and actively helps her and is respected in turn by Zheng. Take what a captain and a first mate are supposed to be like, and bring a flavor of Stede’s people-positive management style without the naive condescension. Competent and thriving. We love to see it.

- Okay also aside for how I was NOT expecting either Ed’s prettiest babygirl look to be at his most unhinged, and I was NOT prepared for Ed shooting Izzy in the leg to be the thing that made Izzy lose the leg.

- Like seriously, I figured losing the leg was going to be a metaphor for Izzy cutting out the worst and most toxic bits of himself, the pieces literally rotting away and killing him with them, the toxic masculinity and the homophobia and the racism and such—but not quite like THAT XD and it’s way more a metaphor for him being forced to let go of his relationship with Blackbeard before it kills him, which is better and less comprehensive anyway.

- The way I flinched a mile when Ed shot him though. Just wasn’t expecting it.

- And the way Jim is sticking up for Izzy. The whole thing with them and Fang and Frenchie—I’ll put this up from one of my many failed Izzy essays, their treatment of him has nothing to do with Izzy and everything to do with them as people. Their choice to fight for a better ship atmosphere. Because love and forgiveness have fuckall to do with how much either party DESERVES those things and everything to do with whether they’re WILLING TO ACCEPT THEM. Love is redeeming and transformative but it takes work, babes.

- Izzy just happens to be the recipient of their reaching. And he might just be tenderized enough to let it start getting to him. But we will see.

- Ed’s suicidal tendencies and his will to live and hope versus his belief in his own unlovable nature has been covered so much and so much more eloquently. But it bears repeating that I knew I was going to fall in love with this show when Stede was shown to be passively suicidal, and then later Ed was too. Maybe I’ll make a fuller post about it later, but. That just means so much to me personally. And while the visceral hurt and drama of Ed’s journey is a step beyond me…I get it. I love how it was handled. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

- Stede’s continual cold dismissal and refusal to engage with Izzy. Character growth. Delicious drama.

- I sincerely hope Zheng Yi Sao accomplishes her piratical takeover. And I hope some sort of truce with the Revenge can be reached, bc yeesh. What a way to get out of an admittedly not great situation with an objectively great character.

- It’s so weird bc like. It’s baseline a historical show. We know that the golden age of piracy ended and not well for the pirates. But they’re already throwing actual hard facts and reality out the window. So it makes things like a Chinese pirate taking over the Caribbean feel way more plausible. I’m excited to see what happens with the larger scope of the show as well as the smaller emotional focus.

Okay, there's more to say. I had both Zak and Valant in mind when I put this on here; I like the idea that they both think of themselves as the underdog in their competition for Thalassa's affection.

Okay I mostly put this on here to add length, but I can justify it. Zak develops a problem with violence later in life. This is a very bitter song, and it makes me think of him embracing his anger and his resentment after he loses everything.

Lonesome Loser - Little River Band

Another one that reminds me of both Zak and Valant. Zak is a loser in that he experiences a great amount of loss in his life, but Valant is a loser in that he cannot win. He just can't win.

I love Thalassa. I think she was deeply weird. Admittedly we don't get to see much of her personality, but the situation of being a magician's daughter with a lot of trauma and supernatural lie-detecting abilities really makes me think that she was an oddball, and I think that was what made her so charming. A real barefoot, dance out in the rain kind of person.

im thinking robin actually neglects to care for her own wings pretty often with her feathers always uncomfortably disorganized and messy, which gets her pretty frustrated with her wings. based on rebel robin her parents aren’t abusive they’re just really weird in a not so great way, so i can see her not really knowing how? nancy gets one look at them and is like “if you don’t sit down so i can FIX THESE”

nancy makes it a habit well into their friendship and eventual relationship, teaching robin how to herself but doing it often anyways because it’s relaxing and a bonding moment okay

the first time nancy see’s robin’s wings she’s awestruck bc they’re so pretty, especially when robin takes care of them, she always compliments them

robin also loves nancy’s wings, they’re so her and they’re very soft, especially near the inside by where they attach to her back, which nancy is super hesitant to let robin touch at first but eventually she’s welcome to, because she trusts her and especially because it feels good

firm believer in bird traits affecting them. nancy, following galah traits of nesting in tree hollows, always feels safe completely surrounded, always being fond of those kid princess tents because they surrounded her on all sides and were comfy! she also loves the smell of eucalyptus.

robin feels most comfortable in a nest of pillows and blankets on the floor, usually up against a wall, as following kea nesting habits of setting up nests in between tree roots!

the two of them team up and build the best blanket forts on the floor and they cuddle! it’s something special for the two of them and they try to do it often.

they both love fruit sm😩 for breakfast they eat fruit all the time. nancy cuts the fruit as the one of the two of them that is allowed to handle a knife (learned the hard way w an er trip) and robin arranges them into fun displays that make nancy laugh and kiss her on the cheek. nancy can’t handle meat well/just doesn’t like it as galahs are strictly herbivores so they like to try a ton of new stuff with vegetarian spins

feathers are often exchanged between the two, nancy wears a cluster of robin’s feathers on a necklace (made by robin) and robin keeps nancy’s softest feathers as a sensory thing, they’re really easy to run her her fingers over and keep her grounded, you can usually see pink feathers in her hand or in her pocket.

Blog 7: Where is music in nature? Where is nature in music?

As a follow-up (focus on the above two before you tackle this one), what song takes you immediately back to a natural landscape? What is the context? Share it with us – I would imagine many of these ideas may have similar underpinnings of a campfire, roadtrip, backpacking journey, etc.!

From my experiences, music is very prominent all throughout nature. If we look for it hard enough, I believe we can find music in any part of nature. The most obvious place is in animals like whales and birds who have songs of their own, but upon closer inspection music is abundant in many other natural places. From the gurgle of a brook to leaves rustling from a breeze there is no question that there is a natural music to the world around us. When I get stressed, I like to venture into the forest behind my house and listen to the sounds of nature. This allows me to slow down and return to my roots as a creature of earth. It is moments like these that truly make me believe that nature is filled with music.

By the same token, nature is a motif in music around the world. “In many cultures, stories, songs, poems, and dances are not just for celebration and fun, but also to teach and inform (Courselink).” Music is within humans. We are connected to our environment. Therefore, that connection and awe of nature often inspires music. I enjoyed reading the article from our textbook, The Arts Provide Another Dimension to Interpretation, as there was a quote which mentioned that “If the songs are not sung and the stories are not told, the land will die.” It was also said that “If the songs are not sung and the stories are not told, danced, painted, or acted, our spirits will die as well.” Humans are very emotional creatures. Something to note about music is that it draws on our emotions, frequently resulting in an impactful and moving experience. Due to this idea, I believe that nature interpretation should include music as it will increase emotional participation. It is something that we need more of in discussions and action revolving around environmental issues like climate change.

Personally, I adore music and I have so many songs that remind me of natural landscapes. In my experience, music has always had the power to create vivid images in my mind. If I’m being honest, I have a whole playlist that reminds me of the mountains. Music evokes such powerful emotions, and this playlist never fails to encapsulate the feelings I have when I’m travelling. Although there are many, the one song that never fails to take me back to the mountain ranges is Sleep on the Floor by the Lumineers. This song is particularly good at drawing me back to the mountains because it reminds me of my trip to Tofino, BC. We drove from Nanaimo to Tofino (a 2.5-hour drive) and blasted the Lumineers the whole time. I grew up travelling and listening to the Lumineers on long drives, so it is only natural that this song reminds me of the natural places I’ve been to (specifically mountains).

So I’m an ENFP but a lot of tests said that I could be an ENTP too, bedsides that I can be a very lively person, I love making the people around me laugh and I can talk with everybody about everything.

I love helping others and I tend to feel like a burden to others a lot. I tend to say sorry often, without even realizing and I go the extra mile to make sure everyone is comfortable.

I love learning about the human body and I hope that in future I will get to be a forensic scientist. I love to work in the lab, I love working with different substances and seeing how things work. I get very obsessed with keeping everything clean and following the steps of experiments without missing anything.

I also love animals and learning about them, especially birds and mammals, I can be like a small encyclopedia when talking about them and If I didn’t loved lab work that much I would have most likely chose to research one of those.

I am chronically ill and bc of it my memory isn’t the best out there, I tend to forget words and it takes a lot for me to remember people by their name. Another effect (that bothers me) is leg pain and usually it’s not that bad but I had days when I almost collapsed bc of the pain.

I like all types of music, recently I like to listen to music on my language and I like the feeling of nostalgia that I get when I do so. Bedsides that I love creating things, would that be by painting, drawing, or making diy’s.

Bartholomew Kuma

A quiet man, but his heart is gold! He’s a spy for the rebels and does his job well! He truly cares about people and wants the world to be a better place. Seeing that you agree with those beliefs makes the usual frowning man smile! He appreciates all that you do and wants to be a good support system for you as well!

He does his best to understand your chronic illness and might ask Vegapunk about a possible cure if the timing allows it. Though he usually doesn’t talk about you to the other Warlords. Not out of embarrassment, but fear they will hurt you, especially people like Doflamingo or Moria. 

You’re the only one who can see him smile and relax, that alone shows how much he loves and trusts you! He will do anything in his power to give you a good life!

Dragon

Similar to the other two stoic men, I think he can be a bit soft with the right people, and you are one of those people! He believes that the world is unjust and wants to do something about it! Seeing that you also believe in those standards warms his hardened heart and lets him know that not all people follow the World Government. 

He doesn’t put up with nonsense and enjoys your calmer and quiet nature, it helps relax him after a long day of ordering people around. He also doesn’t mind your chronic illness and can be quite caring when he needs to be. Dragon mostly lets you do as you please, but will remind you every now and then to take care of yourself.

A stoic man, yes, but deep down he truly cares and will do everything in his power to prove it. Just don’t expect love songs or him announcing his love for you, even he gets embarrassed.

I was listening to Two Birds on a wire and then the line “I’ll believe it all”, and thought if Linden and Lucas. Omg it’s them, or from what I’ve seen, its reminds me of the two bros when they were a bit younger.

two birds makes me feel it all honestly. whenever i find characters i can apply it to i just lay there. i didn't even think of them as two birds but now that you bring up "i'll believe it all" i FEEL it.

anyway uhhh i was just gonna go into the twins' relationship and family drama but i guess this is the post where i do a deep dive into linden's fucked up brain. under the cut!

YES they were very close as kids. linden let lucas know what people without second sight were seeing so lucas could avoid being made fun of and lucas often enlisted linden for help when he needed to deal with something supernatural. linden never really questioned whether lucas's sight was real. even though he doesn't have second sight linden is observant enough to see little inconsistencies in things that he notices his brother giving funny looks toward. and he's physically felt invisible things touch him on occasions when lucas would bring him along to check out something weird he saw. so of course it's real. and they'd stand up for each other whenever someone was being cruel to the other. brothers stick by brothers, always.

they grew apart when they entered adolescence bc. well. adolescence is a time where you start paying more attention to what people think of you and what they think is normal. and the constant mockery of lucas started weighing hard on both twins esp since their parents already put a lot of pressure on them. pressure on lucas to not be such an embarrassment and pressure on linden to be perfect to make up for his brother's "failings".

the dilemma was that linden hated how people treated his brother and wanted to stand by him but he also was terrified of being treated the way people treated his brother. and it's really hard not to start resenting your brother when you are trying SO hard and want more than just a shred of affection for once in your life and everyone rejects him and by extension you because you two share a face and are usually together. and it was ABSOLUTELY NOT lucas's fault, but when you are a kid and there's so much you can't control, it's so hard to recognize that the blame falls on society and your parents. it's easier to blame it on something within reach. or someone.

and so eventually everything gets to be too much and everyone's laughing at you two and you snap and you tell your brother in front of everyone that god, they are right, why do you have to be such a FREAK all the time? and your brother, who never fucking expected this kind of shit to come from HIS FUCKING BROTHER, spits back that he always KNEW that one day you'd turn out to be just like everyone else. and then he runs off and you desperately want to apologize for losing it because you never wanted to treat him how everyone else does but he's avoiding you and now that he's not around you people see you without him and they like you more and maybe... you do... want to be like everyone else. you're getting the hang of talking and acting how they want and they light up and praise you whenever you say something they like or achieve something good and even your parents aren't disappointed in you and god it feels so good (but your brother was never a burden to you, says a voice in the back of your head, and you ignore it because you can't go back to the constant shame and fear even though you've just replaced it with a different kind of fear because you can never ever slip up or else they'll treat you like lucas again and then the guilt hits again for having that thought and rinse and repeat).

meanwhile on the outside he's just becoming more well-liked and more of an overachiever and he's gotten so good at wearing the mask that nobody can tell that anything dark is boiling beneath. and lucas never forgave him for it. rightfully so. he was supposed to be his brother and he abandoned him and now he's SO happy with his new life and he barely even acknowledges lucas anymore. and for lucas that's kind of worse? like it would be objectively worse if linden started bullying him after the initial fight but instead he just... stopped acknowledging him. at all. and that did somewhat redirect other people's attention away from lucas but like. your brother who used to wholeheartedly support and believe in you has just fully rejected you in the space of like, a week. it hurts a lot.

but even though it seems like linden has everything he is desperately lonely and living in utter terror all the time. like everyone likes him and everyone is friendly with him but. nobody likes him because they don't really know him! they only know the image he projects. and nobody is friends with him because he doesn't let them close enough even though he does a good job of fooling them. everything he's done for love has just put him farther from it than ever. he can't risk having a crack in the facade and having everyone see that he's someone they'd mock. or worse, someone they'd pity. don't look at him with that pitying expression. no vulnerability ever except for the carefully curated Seeming of vulnerability that makes people more comfortable around you. but no real truth.

but at this point what even IS true about him, anyway? like does it really matter that deep down he really does not want to be like this if he's spent half his life being exactly like this? at some point, if the facade is doing everything, the facade becomes more real than the person. eidolon problems baby. he barely has a concept of what his real identity is anymore because he spends so much time trying to be what others want. he knows he loves and believes his brother but if he can't let himself show it in any way but the smallest, does he?

like he knows magic is real but he spends so much time knowingly lying about lucas's sight being fake. and lucas knows it too. that just makes it worse honestly. that lucas knows that linden doesn't believe this but he is actively choosing to lie about it. and for what? for what, linden?

TL;DR he sucks. i'm holding him gently. he's a terrible brother. he knows he's a terrible brother and he knows his reasons for it are terrible. he's not scared of anything. he has severe anxiety. he's a mean girl. he hates mean people. he's made himself as perfect as he can be. he thinks there's nobody worse than him. he's beloved by everyone. he's still as desperate for any shred of real affection as he was when he was a teen. he knows exactly what path he is going to take. he has no idea what he wants. he's perfectly normal. he is unbelievably fucked up. he has everything. it doesn't make him happy. he's worst boy and he's my favorite.

it's gonna be a fucking ordeal getting him to open up let alone repairing his and lucas's relationship. it's a good thing he's a recurring character before the arc he features in so we can start chipping at that mask early.

I remember when I was a kid me and my sister would always perfectly split up between the parents for activities— no one ever felt left out bc someone always had a partner and it just made me think of like,, Duck and Red having to swap out at times when they only had Yellow to do activities and both feeling a little left out but never saying anything b/c they don’t want to spoil Yellow’s mood. Also Yellow feeling bad having to pick during these activities.

Then Green shows up. And for a bit, he also doesn’t have a partner for things since he also only wants to partner with Yellow. But one day, while Duck and Yellow pair up at the Zoo to do something, leaving Red and Green alone. And Red is like “Hey…wanna go look at the birds?” And Green— who’s still super nervous and hesitant, finds himself agreeing.

And they have a great time. Red takes pictures of the baby birds and sends them to Duck saying that he “found Duck’s long lost relatives” and eventually, Green works up the nerve to ask Red if they can look at the tigers and lions and they go and the whole time Red watches Green’s face light up as he rambles fact upon fact about them while also slyly sneaking in the idea of releasing them so they can be free. Of course Red is like “No, you can liberate the animals when you are a adult that pays gross taxes” And it makes Green giggle in a way similarly to Yellow, but different. Quieter and more shy, but still as giddy. Red can’t help it— and the next thing he knows is that he’s asking questions about each animal in hopes of seeing Green light up more, even wondering if letting the animals go just to see him laugh will be worth the craze it will inevitably cause.

And since then, the clump always has someone to pair up with during outings.

Four does work.

Crying. Crying and wailing over this it's SO SWEET. Because of COURSE there was a feeling of being left out when it was only three of them, there'd always be an odd person when two pair up. And Yeah it would make them each individually feel bad when it was their turn to stay behind.

I love the thought of them going to the zoo, mainly for the cute factor but I'd also like them to view some horrific abominations of nature that Green LOVES and Red finds incredibly disturbing. And it starts out a little awkward because Yellow and Duck immediately scamper off to the reptile house or the scary gorilla area or something and Green is left with Red and he's like. uncomfortable but putting on a brave face. And Red's like "Time to fucking show up for this traumatize child you old, red lump!" and really puts the effort in to make Green feel comfortable. Like he lets him make all the decisions of where they're going to walk to next, and lets him skip any animals that scare him, and holds his hand so he doesn't get lost, which Green grips tight enough to hurt but Red doesn't mind.

And Green starts to loosen up, after the parrots and their squawking that Red says reminds him of Duck (which makes Green giggle, and Red's heart soar) and then he starts info dumping about the animals and Red's so attentive in his listening that Green forgets about feeling awkward and really starts to have fun, and he tells Red that all big cats purr, and that lion's live in prides but not tigers, and that they eat antelopes, which are a type of deer. And Red doesn't even act like he knows those facts ONCE, just nods along and hums and tells him how interesting this conversation is. And they're walking on now to rhinos or something, and their horns and general size freaks Green out a little, so Red asks him if he's okay with being picked up, and after a long think Green agrees, and Red carries him past the exhibit on his hip, strong arm protectively wrapped around his waist, and Green understands Yellow's obsession with being carried in that moment.

It's really nice actually, he could probably get used to it. Good thing Red's obsessed with carrying all three of him clumpmates around like purse dogs.
