I got reminded BBCs Merlin exists and that spiraled into remembering a bunch of other really, really shitty adaptations of Arthurian canon and now I'm mad so I'm going to list some true facts about it that should hopefully demonstrate why adding "gritty realism" to it pisses me off so much
-Morgan le Fay serves as a Rita Repulsa-esque figure who throws problems at Arthur. She is also a wholly separate person to Morgause, the mother of Mordred. Morgan le Fay is a badass sorceress who's only motivation for being a Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain(tm) is that Guinevere snubbed her in some way.
-It's full of Welsh folklore, especially regarding faeries, and initially started as a recounting of a bit of Welsh military history before people started adding their OCs to it. It then broke containment and spread across europe, especially during the renaissance.
-Loads of the knights have superpowers. Straight up superpowers. Gawain gets stronger (and in some sources, bigger) the higher the sun is in the sky. Kay has some sort of fire shit going on... It's great. People would add their own guys to the round table and give them Cool Powers because they could. Though mostly it was just super-strength. This fell out of favor as it was Christianized because people are COWARDS.
-Lancelot is a French guy's OC, and despite the whole thing being full of those, Lancelot is the most OC of them all (affectionate). The second most OC of the bunch is a dude known for his edgy coat that he always wore that belonged to his dead dad (I am not joking)
-Half of the dudes are described as 'the fairest' or 'the most handsome'. Some have the caveat of 'second only to Arthur'. I legit read a description of how handsome a random knight was that filled a full page once. This is hilarious.
-There's a knight called Bedivere (he whose name has no set spelling) and he's my favorite. He has a prosthetic hand, is head butler, and is the only bitch to survive the big last battle in retellings that I respect. He's also one half of a comedy duo with Kay, also in retellings that I respect. I am admittedly biased because I played him in a middle school production of a really bad adaptation of a knockoff spamalot
-People just fucking murder each other on accident all of the time to show off how STRONK they are. After jousting got added they started having the horses die when lance met shield which DOESN'T MAKE SENSE but is there to, once again, show how STRONK the knights are.
-More on the note of casting, but there are dark skinned people in the canon. Specifically Moors (which is old europe for muslim north-african people with dark skin, a term not really used anymore because it wasn't actually one ethnic group but several). MORE SPECIFICALLY there is one explicitly biracial knight who's the son of one of the other knights and a (and I quote) "Moorish Princess". His name is Morien because people have never been subtle and was one of the knights for whom the tales waxed poetic about how stronk and handsome he was.
-Saved the best for last but this all gave way to the an early historical examples of larping and possibly kinning. King Edward the Third loved a knight named 'Sir Lionel' so much to the point where he'd hold big round table tourneys where everyone would larp as different characters from Arthurian legend (himself always being Lionel) and even named his son after him. The kicker? Lionel doesn't actually have that much in the way of story. He has like one story to himself and is functionally a sidekick in every other appearance I can find. King Eddy 3 had a Blorbo.
All of this to say that Arthurian canon is lovely and goofy and if I see someone make Morgan le Fay into Mordred's mom again I will spew fire and rain hot, bloody terror from the skies. I also think we should start adding OCs to it again and nobody can stop us.

Can you share your favorite fun facts about the blorbos?
Oh man, it's really hard to choose! I've got quite a few little niche facts about the Links!! So I'll just list one for each Link 🫶🏽 Hopefully I'll do it in alphabetical order </3
Artisan still lives with the Tailor's family! They work under her apprenticeship, rather than her husband, and they're much happier as a tailor than they were as a blacksmith. (actually also adding that Artisan keeps in contact with the other heroes from Triforce Heroes :D they're Crimson and Sapphire!
Engie is really big into herpatology on the side. His first love is definitely trains (and Zelda, I guess) but he loves picking up injured reptiles that he sees and nursing them back to health! His favourite type of reptile is a snake and he loves rainbow boas :D
Eras actually really enjoys cooking. Before being enlisted into the Hyrulean army, he wanted to be a chef. Being a hero swept him up and he's been too ensnared by court theatre to ever even think about his dreams a chef. He can still cook up a mean pumpkin soup though.
Faye has far more tattoos than meets the eye--and yes, those...tend to bleed too. Their blood has a strange blue tint to it that translates through their scars too. (side bar but I do actually have a diagram with the tattoos so I'm adding that too)
Tumblr media
Feathers has a loftwing named Azul. He thinks he's very smart and funny for naming the Red Loftwing a shade of blue.
Green, in Minish's system, is incredibly paranoid. He's a huge motherhen and very protective of his system, and they constantly keep a moon pearl attached to their necklace. Just in case! They also keep a mysterious shell on their necklace as well...for luck.
Due to excessive magic use as a kid, Mirror suffers through severe chronic pain. He has a cane in his bag for days when flare ups are so bad he could barely walk. That doesn't stop him from continuing to use magic, he just has to use it very sparingly.
Tune lives full time in Tetra's crew. He values her expertise and knowledge and respects her more than anyone--besides his grandmother, of course. He's adamant that she's the strongest (and coolest) person he knows. (also, since I couldn't pick which fact I wanted to write, I'm adding that he is OBSESSED with cats. The Ship cats practically own him
Kind of a random detail in my AU, but Agitha is the one who helped Rancher realise she's a girl and helped her be confident in her body! They collect bugs together and Rancher definitely doesn't know a lot about them, but she LOVES hearing Agitha infodump about them.
Wild is a lone wolf by design. It's not like he intends to be that way, but he just. Always feels like a passive observer of his own life and accidentally drifts away from groups without realising it. Because of it, he can blend into the background very well.
Zonau has not talked to someone in literal decades. He isolated himself to do the goddesses know what, and kind of sucks at socialising as a result. It's just super out of practise. It's a little bit of a hermit crab.
Oh!! and I also have. playlists that I'm making for my Links too :D but I'll add those when I'm actually finished them </3

8 TV shows can say a lot about a person!
Certainly for me, I think! I’m listing here many of my personal recs which (as this is a Haladriel blog) I will be talking about them in relation to Haladriel, if applicable.
Thanks for the tag @pursuitseternal 🌟
Without further ado:
———
1. Needless to say, The Rings of Power.
I’m a total sucker for Hot Bad Men™️ so I never stood a chance against Saubrand.
Blorbo aside, my attachment to this show far preceded my Saurondriel obsession — I was completely enamored with it since Episode 1, the first big scenic shot of Valinor; the Two Trees; the epic soundtrack; stunning costumes. I had tears in my eyes during the boat sailing into the light of Valinor. The scale of storytelling far exceeded my admittedly meager expectations.
Let me be clear: I did not want to like this show and was set on dismissing it as an inferior fan service following The Hobbit franchise. Next thing I knew my inner child had been awakened and my love for Tolkien universe rekindled. Add to this concoction my weakness for complex villains and the epic reveal of Hot Sauron — boom, I was done. I’ll never recover from this.
Tumblr media
2. FRINGE.
This show has such a special place in my heart. It’s sci-fi, mystery, time travel, alternate timelines, quantum physics mumbo jumbo, love story, and a father/son story all rolled into one amazing series that ended abruptly and went under the radar for so long.
In this universe, Denethor II has reincarnated into a much more gentle, sweeter Dr. Walter Bishop who actually loves his son and will put his life at risk for his son over, and over, and over again.
I also have an undying admiration for Anna Torv’s Olivia Dunham (I’m planning a separate post of all my fictional female crushes over the years). I was so giddy to see her in The Last of Us — she’s an underrated actress who deserves to be in the spotlight.
Tumblr media
3. LOST.
Tumblr media
Probably the first TV show that I actually got seriously invested in as a young adult and since then I’ve watched it so many times in every phase of my life. I’ve named our new puppy after Penelope Widmore. My computer name is Not-Pennys-Boat. I’ve been thirsting after stranded-at-sea disheveled ruffians since Sawyer, who is my favorite character who was the antagonist at the beginning (I’ve been saying that Halbrand is the perfect mix of Sawyer and Aragorn).
Sawyer/Juliet is my absolute favorite onscreen couple, pre-Haladriel. Their chemistry is fire. They just work. (Hated him with Kate.) Just tell me this doesn’t scream Haladriel (aesthetically):
Tumblr media
Bonus: scene look familiar? Desmond did it first 🔥
Tumblr media
4. Outlander.
Ok, believe it or not, I wasn’t quite watching this for the copious amount of steamy sex just because I was watching with my husband AND my mom over the pandemic when we lived together, and needless to say it was quite awkward 😂 I have a particular inexplicable love for Scotland (despite having only gone there twice), so when I discovered the series I went head over heels in love with the landscape, costumes, historic details, music (Bear McCreary), mythology, etc. Oh, and the hot Scotsman too 🫠
Jamie and Claire are the epitome of cosmically connected soulmates, their love transcending across lifetimes. Their early sex scenes are 🔥🔥🔥.
Bonus fact: Sam Heughan was named after Samwise Gamgee by his Tolkien hippie parents. He’s been casually broadcasting that he wants a role in TROP. Could we help him? If enough of us use the tag #SamHeughanForCeleborn, will they give Galadriel the husband she deserves?
Tumblr media
5. DARK.
Did I mention I’m a big fan of quantum physics, philosophy, time travel, and parallel universes? No? Well, this brooding German show just about represents everything I love. The perfectly planned 3-season show is everything you could ever hope for in a good TV series. It’s moody, intelligent, mind-bending, and heart-wrenching. Watch the first episode, and by the end of it, you’ll be hooked, I promise you. Oh and for the love of god, do not watch it dubbed.
Tumblr media
6. Norsemen.
Ok, I don’t typically watch too much comedy. But I do like The Office. I also like medieval movies/shows. What if I said Norsemen was basically a medieval version of The Office? Oh, it’s so dumb. It’s so dumb I almost didn’t finish the first episode. But once you get in the groove, it’s hilarious as fuck. On Netflix.
Tumblr media
7. True Detective.
I don’t know how many times I’ve rewatched this show — it’s my comfort show I watch by myself on my laptop on rainy evenings. I don’t know what that says about me, and I don’t want to know 😂
Aside from the intrigue of the creepy Southern Gothic and unsettling cult themes, I mainly attribute my obsession with the show to Matthew McConaughey’s brooding Rust Cohle. He’s tall and lanky, a total weirdo, a lone wolf, has commitment issues, single-minded about his job, and (a bit more than) slightly unhinged. Also known as my kind of dude.
Tumblr media
8. Better Call Saul.
Greatest of all spin-offs, who knew that the show about the sleazy lawyer who represented the world’s greatest meth kingpin was actually a love story in disguise?
Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn as Jimmy and Kim are the perfect embodiment of a modern couple who are equals and opposites, bring out each other’s best and worst, and have an undying respect for one another which serves as the backbone for their relationship. They even take turns towing on opposite sides of the law, pushing and pulling each other’s inclinations towards Good & Bad, only to find each other drowning in the dense grey area that is all too real. They are the *could have beens* for Galadriel and Sauron in the best case scenario (I could go on with the similarities but I don’t want to spoil the show).
Bonus fact: Gennifer Hutchison was the writer for both BCS and TROP. This fact should speak volumes about the kinds of discussions that would have occurred in the writer’s room regarding the nature of Galadriel and Sauron’s relationship. Watch the show and you’ll understand.
Tumblr media
I’ve got many more recommended shows, but I think these 8 have been my primary emotional support shows over the past few years. I debated including Raised By Wolves, but as it was prematurely canceled there isn’t a whole lot I could say about it, despite having a fantastic premise (and which I still recommend people watch).
No pressure tags (but also curious to know): @starlady66 @maironiiel @demonscantgothere @scriberated @wyrd-syster @formerlyir @nenyabusiness @thegreatzombieartisan and any others who want to join.

@goofygooberton tagged me in a thing where I was supposed to list five of my comfort characters and then tag five other people like two months ago, but I was on vacation at the time and the post ended up unfinished and lost in my drafts.
So I am doing it now, here it goes, Tumblr user togrutahhh's five comfort characters (aka a collection of cunning bastards who seem composed on the surface but are secretly Fucked Up but are also kind to children and poor people):
Hina Kudo from Mr. Sunshine aka my pfp: Hina Kudo is actually Korean, but she has a Japanese name because she's the mysterious widow of a rich Japanese man twice her age. She used his inheritance to open up a fancy hotel in Seoul and uses the money and influence gained through that alongside her intelligence and cunning to get what she wants, and what she wants is Mysterious unless you've seen the show to the end. Does she work for the Japanese? For the Koreans? For the Americans? For herself? Nobody knows and everyone hates her for it. She is a Bad Bitch, always cool, poised, and playfully seductive, but she also has a back full of hideous scars and is a proficient swordswoman, hinting at a less genteel past. She seems haughty, but is also wonderfully compassionate towards lower class people and viciously defends her staff from unwanted sexual advances. The men she wants never pick her because they think she's fake and manipulative. (Fun fact: this actress and her mannerisms in this particular role is how I headcanon Alys Vorpatril to look like, with Henry Golding as Ivan)
Grand Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars: I love the Chaotic Strategic Mastermind Who Inspires Loyalty In His Men archetype, but what I love about Thrawn is that, unlike the more overtly theatrical and extroverted specimens like Miles Vorkosigan or Eugenides or Inda Algara-Vayir, he is also very introverted and autistic and seems incapable of connecting to people outside of the structured military environment he's in, which adds an additional twist and makes him deliciously interpersonally vulnerable to me. In the right hands he's also an excellent treatise of when doing evil for the greater good is justified and when it's not, and a cool exploration of someone just abandoning his humanity and his personal needs in order to always do the Rational Thing. Reading Zahn's new canon books about him often feels like watching your kind, hypercompetent, slightly awkward boyfriend who's great with children make the worst possible choices and fail you again and again and again. I also like thinking about him in terms of... information processing? Like no matter how logical you are, your conclusions are only as good as your info and what info you take into consideration will be determined by your own prejudices and assumptions and social position. Honorable mention to his boyfriend aide Eli Vanto and also everyone in the Ascendancy Trilogy - I could make a top ten comfort characters list out of them alone.
Laurent of Vere from Captive Prince: NEW BLORBO!! <3 Another Strategic Mastermind Who Inspires Loyalty in His Men + Interpersonal Vulnerability combo, but this time extra bitchy and needlessly vicious and also in a piece of media that explores his interpersonal baggage with great nuance and respect. He is severely traumatized but the narrative never takes away his agency and always portrays his boundaries as really important and I wrote a whole ass essay about how lovely that is that you can look up on my blog if you want. He comes off as stone cold but seems to have an innate desire to be sweet and submissive that he's too scared to let out. He also has a delightfully intricate mind that manifests in a myriad of plot twists and schemes - those books are literally more filled with unexpected plot twists than the Queen's Thief books, and that's an accomplishment to say the least. Every time you think you've got him pegged down he reveals new layers to his thinking and personality and it's such a delight, but you also see how that same intricate mind stymies him and makes him awkward when he tries to open up to someone (and what's extra charming is that you can see that he's trying so damned hard in places).
Lisbeth Salander from The Millennium Trilogy: The ultimate Bad Bitch. She's punk. She's a genius with a photographic memory but is so distrustful and anti-social and scarred by her severely traumatic upbringing that she pretends to be mentally handicapped so that people would leave her alone. She kills her rapist. She sets her abusive father on fire as a preteen. He comes for her as an adult to get revenge and buries her alive and she digs herself out Kill Bill-style, and whenever I feel in an impossible situation I think of the description of how she feels her fingers being scraped to a pulp as she digs but refuses to give up and that inspires me. She falls in love with an upper middle class leftist journalist twice her age who is poly, which she isn't stable enough psychologically to deal with, so she ghosts him and then spends a lot of time dwelling on how isolated from Normal Society she feels and how it always feels like she's a shitty stray out in the cold and rain watching happy people sit together in warm houses through the window.
Joe Macmillan from Halt and Catch Fire: He's a Don Draper-esque slick salesman kind of charismatic guy, except you can immediately tell that it's a facade and his charismatic shtick often comes off as fake, plastic, over the top or even kinda pathetic. He does the Joker thing where he makes up a different story about how he got his scars based on what will best get him what he wants. He's the best bisexual rep I've ever seen and while his queerness is not a central plot point in the show, he gets an entire subplot about being a queer man during the 1980s AIDS crisis and how this impacts his career as an antivirus software "developer", and we also get hints about how having to perform manhood as a teen is what set the stage for his fake-ass melodramatic bargain bin Patrick Bateman personality. He eventually matures and learns that manipulating people can lead to some really nasty consequences and becomes a more genuine and grounded person. He still loses everything. He comes off as a heartbreaker but actually he just keeps getting dumped by everyone because nobody trusts him as far as they can throw him even when he genuinely cares and continues to suffer over the breakup for years afterwards. He's the ultimate boy who cried wolf. Truly the most pathetic meow meow of all time. He's played by Lee Pace, so he's really hot. Actually everyone on this list is really hot and can cut glass with their cheekbones.
Honorable mention to Eugenides from Queen's Thief, who sadly got replaced by Laurent at the last minute. Also honorable mention to a dozen Star Wars characters who got kicked out by Thrawn, including but not limited to my boy Luthen Rael, the entire Skywalker family, Darth Maul, Aleksandr Kallus, and Hera Syndulla.
Five people I'm tagging: @highladyluck @kokoshnjak @thesunlikehoney @capablecapybara @kissingdeadgirls at random from my notifs and anyone else who wants to participate :)) also you don't really have to write a paragraph for each one I'm just annoying and like overthinking things <3

13 Books
What’s up readers?! How about a little show and tell? Answer these 13 questions, tag 13 lucky readers and if you’re feeling extra bookish add a shelfie! Let’s Go!
Not tagged by @softest-punk but I saw it on their page and decided to get involved.
1) The Last book I read:
Just finished Tana French’s “Broken Harbour”. I LOVE Tana French, particularly her Dublin Murder Squad series. I wasn’t very satisfied with the ending. It required too much suspended disbelief for me. Too many characters descending into madness at the same time very conveniently. But it was interesting to consider how many issues we cause for ourselves by attempting to be someone we think we should be.
2) A book I recommend:
Not to be basic Tumblr bitch but Neil Gaiman’s “The Ocean at The End of The Lane”. The way he can articulate the terrible things that happen in childhood, how we deal with them, how we carry the memories, and the effect they have on us for the rest of our lives left me shaken and breathless. ”You don’t pass or fail at being a person, dear.” I wish I didn’t need this reminder but I do, so thank you, Neil.
Plus, I find it fascinating to see the difference between people who can intimately relate to it and those for whom it is just a story.
3) A book that I couldn’t put down:
Stephen King “The Waste Lands” The third book of The Dark Tower series. A book series that started out so promising and ended with me throwing the final book against the wall in disgust and cursing Mr. King to high heavens. For all the issues the final books in the series had “The Waste Lands” was an absolute masterpiece. I remember reading it on a train to work and nearly missing my spot because I needed to find out what happens next.
4) A book I’ve read twice (or more):
One book?? Right. Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot”. It absolutely terrified me when I read it as a teenager. I loved the feeling of small town America invaded by the supernatural which he writes so well. Plus, vampires!  I have a habit of re-reading it every time I go home, don’t really know why. I probably should get around to reading it in English at some point.
Sometimes I re-read books by accident. I consume so much crime fiction that occasionally I will pick up a book from the library and happily read it with no recollection of the plot only to be told by GoodReads I’ve read it years ago.
5) A book on my TBR:
I am beginning to think this list was made by someone who isn’t a reader. One book? I guess it has to be R.F.Kuang “Babel”. I really want to read it. It's like The Secret History but in Oxford! I know I will enjoy it but I only have it on Kindle. I prefer reading long books in their physical form but the library copy is in hardback so it’s cumbersome to carry around. Thus it stays on my TBR.
First world problems of a bookworm.
6) A book I’ve put down:
Dan Brown “Angels and Demons”. I knew about his reputation when I picked it up, but I wanted something mindless to read and thought it would be fine. Reader, it wasn’t fine. Terrible, terrible writing. I couldn’t deal. Turns out I do have standards even for my trash reads.
7) A book on my wish list:
Stephanie Foo “What My Bones Know: A memoir of healing from complex trauma” I’ve read so many books on trauma and complex trauma both for my degree and for personal understanding. Surprising no one most of them are written by men. I’m very excited to read female perspective on it, plus she talks about generational trauma which is such an incredibly fascinating topic.
8) A favorite book from childhood:
Alexander Dumas “The Three Musketeers”. I was obsessed with this book. OBSESSED. I’ve read it so many times I could recite pages of it. It introduced me to my first problematic fictional crush Athos, starting my love affair with all the sad tortured blorbos which going strong till this day. I named my dog Count de la Fere after him. I wanted to be a musketeer so bad. Still kind of do.
9) A book you would give to a friend:
It does slightly depend on a friend but Amor Towles “A Gentleman in Moscow”. I was so blown away when I read it. I gave copies to my friends. I talked to everyone about it: friends, people on the internet, strangers in bookshops or on public transport (In London! Imagine the horror!) One of my friends refuses to read the last chapter till this day because she does not want the story to end. This is probably my proudest book gifting achievement.
10) A book of poetry or lyrics that you own
The OG problematic bae Lord Byron Selected Works. It’s a second hand school library's copy from 1950’s full of underlinings and scribbled notes. I love seeing evidence of other people engaging with writing and thinking about words.
Tumblr media
Such a problematic person. Such a great poet.
11) A nonfiction book you own:
Cindy Crab “Things That Help: Healing our lives through Feminism, Anarchism, Punk & Adventure”. I found this book in the feminist bookshop in Brighton when things weren’t going so great for me for the umptheen time and it was like pouring healing salve on my soul. It’s not a book in a traditional sense but a collection of self-published zines collected into a little tome. It destroyed my very conservative idea of what a book is and how “professional” it should look that I did not realise I held until that moment. Most importantly, it reminded me there are other ways of being in the world that a conventional way of living.
12) What are you currently reading:
Teo van den Broeke “The Closet”. It’s a memoir of a fashion journalist who tells of growing up, coming out and figuring out himself through clothes that were important to him. It’s written in an easy, conversational style. As someone whose wardrobe consists of jeans, leggings and t-shirts I find it so interesting to peek into fashionista’s world.
13) What are you planning on reading next?
Isabella Hammad “Enter Ghost”. It is a book set in Palestine about staging Hamlet and possibly also a queer love story. What more could you want from a book? Cannot wait to start this one!!

I'm back! 👀 THIS TIME WITH ILANI X CREED ASK
It was gonna be two but i got nosey and i wanna know all the deets sorry
15. What names are they saved as on each other’s phone?
23. Your OCs are on a trip and there’s only one bed! What do they do?
45. Are they good at comforting one another? Does someone hide their feelings usually?
😘💜💜💜
I'm loving all these asks you're sending, bestie <3 thank you for wanting to know more about my blorbos >3< and apologies for the immense delay; the muse has been on vacation apparently
answers below the cut!
15. What names are they saved as on each other's phone?
On Ilani's datapad, early on in their relationship, he's listed as "Creed." At some point she adds a green heart - Creed 💚.
On Creed's datapad, Ilani's contact is listed under "The General" to begin, and when they start to actually admit feelings for one another and develop their relationship, he edits that to say, "My General."
23. Your OCs are on a trip and there's only one bed! What do they do?
ohohoho okay listen the one bed trope is Top Fucking Tier. gold status. I think how they react depends how long they've known each other. beginning of the war, basically just met a few months ago? Ilani offers Creed the bed and spends the night sitting on the floor in a meditative trance that isn't so much resting as it is...going into power-saving mode, essentially. but a few months after that, when they start to show feelings for one another? they're both a nervous wreck. Creed insists she take the bed since he had it last time. Ilani stubbornly insists he have it regardless. Creed's the one to suggest they share; and though they fall asleep facing different directions, when they wake, Ilani is cradled against Creed's chest, warm and safe.
45. Are they good at comforting one another? Does someone hide their feelings usually?
Not really? They have very different styles of processing their emotions, thanks to their vastly different upbringings, which means that they often have communication breakdowns when one of them is spiraling. Though, to be fair, they don't spiral often.
Ilani needs quiet and space; Creed needs to be around at least one other person. Which means that Ilani can't stand Creed's impulse to just Be There when she's upset, and Creed doesn't understand why she leaves him alone when he's in a mood. They work through it though.

10 Character/10 Fandoms/10 Tags
Maybe minus the tags. Tagged by the lovely @anosrepasi <3
Astarion Ancunin, Baldur's Gate 3: Is this a fucking surprise at this point? I have spent real life time staring at my office walls being haunted by this man. He's charming. He's repulsive. He's vicious and self serving and ancient and immature and so desperate to be safe after centuries of living on adrenaline that he will do anything to get you on his side. He's a meta exercise in manipulation, marketed as a hedonistic sex symbol to project fantasies on, then coming out with this nuanced presentation of cptsd/sexual trauma that makes you genuinely uncomfortable with your initial judgements of him. He's the poster child for imperfect survivors still being deserving of kindness, and for the difference kindness can make in breaking or continuing the cycle of abuse. He contains multitudes. I don't think the disk horse was ever avoidable with a character like him.
Anthy Himemiya, Revolutionary Girl Utena: speaking of exercises in projection!!!! Maybe I have a type, or a theme, or something. She's the receptacle for everyone else's hopes for her and ideas of what she could be, an actual object to be traded as a prize. She's a princess, she's a damsel, she's a witch, she's whatever you need her to be. Does anyone know what she is beyond that, herself included? There's been so much amazing analysis on Anthy over the years that I'm not sure I have anything important to add at this point.
Tidus, Final Fantasy X: Early blorbo! Maybe even the first blorbo, though Sailor Saturn might offer competition. I was eleven when I finished this game and proceeded to lose my mind over pretty much every single character at one point or another. I picked Tidus for being the main but I think I do love him the most, too-- there's something about the privileged hero learning how to be self-sacrificial that I think was kind of formative for me. Plus he's a big dweeb and his laugh scene still makes me giggle.
Will Graham, NBC Hannibal: accepting the monstrous side of you, cannibalism as a metaphor for love, sweaty, gruesome, and nonsensical dream sequences, empathy disorders as a psychic superpower, etc etc etc. I could not ask for anything more out of a guy.
Nona, The Locked Tomb: So Nona is my favorite of the books so far, and it's in large part thanks to Nona's point of view. Her focus on what's going on with the kids while the rest of the narrative is in this horrible war zone was really poignant for me? People die, life goes on, kids grow up thinking everything they see is normal. I've taken a lot of writing influence from her narration lately. Granted I (like so many of us) have a soft spot for unhinged women, so trying to pick just one character from The Locked Tomb was SO hard.
Nell Crain, The Haunting of Hill House: If only people cared about her half as much while she was alive as they did after she died! Also, being haunted by her own inevitable tragedy while still managing to find something beautiful and worthwhile in the end.
Jade Harley, Homestuck: by and large I pretend not to associate myself with Homestuck anymore, but it did get me back into fandom after a pretty long time away and Jade still holds a soft spot in my heart. Little feral garden child.
Akane Kurashiki, Zero Escape Series: taking the single most insufferable anime trope (to me at least) and turning it on it's head. The extent of her manipulation by the end of 999 still gives me chills, even though I know the ending, and despite it all she never stops being sympathetic. I love her so much.
Midna, Zelda: Twilight Princess: I named my kitty after her so she's gotta be on the list. She is now 17 and arthritic and still has a lot to say. I'm sure she's criticizing my adventuring skills and/or teaching me how to jump like a wolf.
Cole, Dragon Age Inquisition: I named my other kitty after him so he also has to be on the list. He knocked his cat tree into my partner's coffee table last month and now we need a new one.
Not tagging anyone because tagging stresses me out a bit, but if you would like to do this I would LOVE to see top tens of the moment!

💥🎁🦋🦈📚 💌
Hi! Thanks for the ask :3
Fanfic Writer Ask Game
💥 What is one canon thing that you wish you could change?
Sanji being a sex offender creep & all the transphobic and homophobic centered jokes he was involved with. Without a blink, I am shamelessly writing him ooc in this one aspect and I refuse to change my mind here.
🎁 Have a piece of a WIP you want to share?
From a Law x f!Reader I am really struggling with, but I am determined to pull it to the finish. It's not even proof-read so, a warning for possible typos and style glitches:
Ignoring the unpleasantly cool air, you shake the comforter off and crawl closer, soon wrapping arms around him from behind and setting chin on his shoulder. Barely does he jerk, just a sharper inhale tells you that you’ve been spotted. “Sorry.” He mumbles, face still pressed tight between hands. “Woke you up?” “Been awake sometime.” You kiss the line of hair at the back of his neck. “And you weren’t asleep at all, am I right?” Quite a long time, filled with the natural, musky smell of his skin pressed to your nose, passes before Law finds any words, his reluctance to lie fighting against need to not worry you. “Could be worse.” He grabs one of your hands and kisses its palm, his lips dry and parched—then finally moves, but slowly, visibly fighting against exhaustion and urge to fall back into the warm bed. “You need rest,” you insist, trying to keep him in place, arms holding on him as tight as your barely awake muscles let you. “Please? At least until they call us back?” “What a few more hours of lying here will do, if I can’t—” His words snap into a hiss, but he bites his tongue and sighs, heavy, as if he threw a great weight off his chest. “Ugh. Fuck. Sorry.” You kiss your forgiveness along his neck. “Maybe I can…help you relax, at least?”
🦋 Which character is your favorite to write?
I think Sanji, even if he's erm far from my favorite character in canon? He just clicks so easily with many prompts. Katakuri is a nice victim too, I like breaking introverts with issues into vulnerability, hehe. Law for similar reasons, but I am very picky with requests for him, since he has very sharp edge and, imho, doesn't fit everywhere. Slowly reclaiming Zoro after fandom pushed him out of my sphere of comfort. Luffy is a great joy to work with but, again, I'm super picky with him cause he's tough to grasp.
🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?
Crocodile. I, frankly, see him as hard aromantic and his personality is a pain in the ass to work with in typical x y/n setting. Doflamingo, too. I enjoy writing Doffy when the topic hits the spot - but it rarely does :/
📚 Is there a fanfic or fanfic writer you recommend?
My partner's in crime (@greenwitchtaimanslayer) Of Discordant Fists and Bloody Keys will change your mind on OCs if you, like me, don't particularly enjoy this kind of fiction. And I'm absolutely not mentioning it here so he'd move his ass and finish that new chapter or add that Renna x Y/N thingie :3
@heyitsdoe and her Doe's Spicy Ramen Shop is a must, if you're looking for some novelty in y/n fics. It's something completely different from majority of stuff I see around, and since it's a collection of one shots with different characters, I'm sure everyone will find something for themself.
@childofblackmaria and her dilf collection is also a must if you're looking for a mature approach to our favorite blorbos and not only. Lale's writing is like a safe harbor where you will return every time bad winds carry you to places you didn't wish to see.
I'm slowly chewing through @harudnae's portfolio and damn, they're one of those writers I will enjoy always, even if I don't particularly vibe with topic and/or characters. Sabo/Reader/Koala thingie just opened my eyes and I can't close them ever since.
For similar reasons, @doctorgerth never disappointed me with her fics. Won't link anything because I'd need to make a separate list for all fics I enjoyed. Coop is a classic in Y/N circles, if you're new here and you're not sure yet what's your flavor, take a look around her portfolio - everything will be a good, safe shot.
The fandom is packed with talented writers, there are many names that come to my mind but didn't have much time to read everything I wanted & memorize every nook enough to throw a recommendation. So please, don't be mad or disappointed at me, if I didn't include your name, even if we happen to interact T^T I'm a slow bun with everything lol
💌 Is there a favorite trope you like to write?
Does kink count as a trope? If it does, that's what my current writing obsession is. Yes, I'm horny on main & not ashamed of it :P

More Empires fic recs
It's me again. This are a few of my favourite empires fics in ao3, this time multichaptered edition. This are all completed, both from s1 and s2, and in no particular order. Fics under the readmore, enjoy!
Four Reasons Why I'm Broken (And Why That's Okay), by Useless_Bisexual123: "False is paranoid. False has memory problems. False doubts herself. False gets nightmares. But maybe, just maybe, that's alright."
Rating: T Archive Warnings: GDV Chapters: 3/3 Words: 7384
This was one of the first fics I read about Empires!False, and Im absolutely in love with her characterisation in here. She's tired, stressed, and I love her for this. The writting is so good too, and before I realised I had read the entire thing in one sitting. Also, Lizzie is here, and every paragraph she's in had me either dying in laughter or was just too cute. Just. I love this.
Shifting Perspective, by @scribbling-dragon: "Shapeshifters are shunned, pushed away from the light they helped to diminish. Their God retreated as they were outcast, disappearing into shadows that had only just appeared. Yet, they whisper that He is still present in the crackling of lightning and rumbling of thunder. His luck never seemed to hold firm, he's rather certain that Luck themselves holds a grudge against him at this point. And, as Luck would have it, he's been cursed with the gift, and truly, who could have been more suited to it than the Ruler of Rivendell? (Literally anyone else, is the answer you're looking for.)"
Rating: T Archive Warnings: GDV Chapters: 25/25 Words: 112658
So, this one is I think the most popular in the list, and it's probably you've seen it around if you spend at least half as much time as I do in the ao3 fandom tag, but oh my god. It deserves every good thing. I know this is a long read but it's absolutely worth it. I read it while the last chapters were still coming out, A While ago, and it still lives in my head rent free. I wish it a lot of extra kudos.
fill your lungs, by rabbit_with_a_sword: "When Sausage collapses, finally unable to hide the side affects from being resurrected, Gem and fWhip have to scramble to prevent him from being drawn back into the Spirit Realm and face the consequences of his escape. But there's more to Sausage than he likes to show, and he didn't escape intact…"
Rating: T Archive Warnings: CCNTU Chapters: 12/12 Words: 18504
This fic somehow manages to be so hilarious and made me have so many feelings at the same time. A chapter would update and I would spend the rest of the week worrying about my poor blorbo. But also, the lore behind it is top noch, there are so many details that made want to point at them and shout my thoughts. I may or may not have gone a little bit crazy over them, but keeping my sanity was never an option.
Tabula rasa, by @capriciouswriter207: "tabula rasa: the mind in its hypothetical primary blank or empty state before receiving outside impressions -- Sausage wakes up in bed. It’s pleasant. He stares at the ceiling. He doesn’t move. He doesn’t think. He doesn’t do anything. He just exists. (or: the fight with a certain wizard saves him from the corruption, but it leaves him in an extremely vulnerable state)"
Rating: T Archive Warnings: CCNTU Chapters: 27/27 Words:31097
This one was finished recently, and I was not ready to let it go. If I'm forced to say only one thing about it, is how much I enjoyed the way it was written, specially going back to the beggining after reading the end. This made me feel A Lot Of Feelings, and I really couldn't recomend it enough.
Obligatory Notes:
I did my best to tag the writers, but there are a few that I couldn't find, if they have a tumblr. If you know one I've missed, please let me know!
Also, feel free to add your own recs! I want to read them!
More recs but this ones are one-shots

for wip wednesday, a wee peek of that shadowgast fake marriage au i talked about on the weekend, tell me what you think
And Essek is without an escape plan.
Trapped masterfully in an endgame he’s failed to see occurring in the shadows around him. He let his old arrogance ruin him, he should have seen the knife coming long before he felt it in his back.
“A welcome union between our Den’s, long overdue,” The world screeches back into focus as Deirta offers the usual platitudes and Ulric Tasithar nods along, barely containing his smirk, a plan well executed and just a moment away from being finalised. The clock ticks ominously in the back of the room and Essek feels every second like a vice around his chest.
So Essek does something he’s rarely done before. He panics.
“I’m afraid that won’t be possible,” he says, a touch too loudly. The only visible sign he’s not in full control of himself.
His mother sniff’s haughtily, fully aware he has no way out and not in the mood to indulge his silver tongue’s attempt to earn his freedom. Or at least a moment’s reprieve to think. “My boy you -”
“I’m already married,” Essek states as calmly as he can, trying not to show the cold panic that has settled into every inch of him. His mother blinks at the outburst, momentarily stunned. A good thing, with Deirta on the back foot he could wrangle a way out of this horrible situation. After all, the Umavi of Den Thelyss had been expecting cool, calculated arguments from him.
Not this.
And in all honesty neither had he.
Outwardly he is calm, relaxed in his seat and presenting an aura of control as he lets the statement settle like dust on the furniture. Internally Essek desperately tries to fumble together something to cover for his outlandish declaration.
It’s not unusual to bypass the pomp and circumstance of a public wedding for a quieter affair but he can tell from the faces around the table that they can see it for what it is. A desperate attempt to maintain his freedom.
“It was a lovely ceremony,” Uraya pipes up and Essek exhales slowly to avoid doubling over in gasping relief. He could kiss his dear friend. A witness, a respected one at that, adds more weight to Essek’s words and he looks less like a child clamouring for any exit and more like a man in control of the situation.
“To who?” Deirta asks stonily.
Fuck, Essek thinks sharply.

i just imagine whenever imogen rolls low for looking through the library for information it's not because it's her fault but rather because there's two humans, one with ginger hair and one with dark brown hair, who are also furiously researching and she can't find what she's looking for becuase they might have it.
"caleb. caleb, look at this. more shit about the fucking moons that apparently need to be dealt with. add this to the list of books we're paying to make a copy off and be shipped to the soul."
"alright. you know we wouldn't have need to come here had we paid more attention to your fellow archive member who was very interested in the moons as well."
"well when he was talking about it it sounded so fucking boring and we were dealing with a lot of shit that we couldn't really have given him any time anyways. and now he's mia and now we have to try and find him or his stupid research."
"yah that is unfortunate. has jester responded back if any of her sendings had reached mr sunlash?"
"nah she's been sending to him at least once a day but no response. some of jester's message are pretty fucking creepy though so i'd get why he might not respond. hey do you think if just we hit up the moonweaver she'll give us the answer?"
"considering we were part of the attempt of trying to pass off artagan's cult to her, i don't presume she'll respond kindly to us. and you forget neither of us are godly people beauregard"
"that's fair. do you think if jester spoke with artagan she might get him to tell her.
"..."
"yeah cad would probably have more luck with the wildmother. anyways add this to the list and i'll go look for more books."
"sure. can we add this too? i've skimmed it but it speaks about a type of magic that is unknown to wildemount and we might benefit from learning more about it."
"sure yeah. add it to the list. i love having fucking magic shit that the cerberus doesn't know about and we can lord it over them."

hii solar! positivity anon✨ here to spread some love<3 your art is so fun and colorful and sparks so much joy! i particularly love all the little outfits you put everyone in !! i'm so grateful you're here and part of our community and thank you for sharing your creativity with us. now, i would like to ask you to pick out 3 top works that you love (or 3 recent ones if it's too hard to choose!) and tell us something you love about each piece or something you enjoyed while making them<3 hope you have a great day✨
omg hii nonnie what a lovely idea thank you so much for this <33
before I start listing anything let me just say that to answer this I just spent half an hour scrolling through my art tag and saving far too many links bc I just couldn't decide kjdhfkksj I rly love a lot of my art and have a lot of fun with it, but I will try my best to narrow it down to just three <3 (actually a biphobic hatecrime that you're making me choos-)
listing these in no particular order bc. no. there's no way I can pick a top one here fjgfjhgfkj
these tiny!cas drawings I made for a mutual a while back are still so adorable to me. esp the first one, like I have no idea how I actually made sleepy little cas look so adorable I think it's the pinchable cheeks and leetle crooked halo but smth abt him just makes me wanna plant a big ol' smooch on him? mwah mwah you know? i am normal abt my blorbo <3
a more recent fave would be one of this year's Suptober pieces, of Cas and Rowena on a horse, dressed up as cowboy and witch to impress salmondean. this one I spent a lot of time and effort on (you do not want to know how often I erased that sketch to change smth djfhshkj) and it ended up a pretty good way to sum up my two main goals w my art: 1. add way too many details and 2. be hilarious
this one was a tough decision bc let's be real I can't make a list like this and not include any of my (as you put it so well <3) Guys in Little Outfits™ but there's soo many which one to choose. I think my very first more, hm, "revealing" work deserves the spot, which would be this Dean right here (cw wonderful orbs <3) I like it bc of how well the shading/lighting worked out in this one. No other reason. Hkjdfhjhs
but yeah like I said these were no easy choice bc I do rly enjoy all the cool things I get to create for spnblr, and it's always a pleasure to share them with all of you 🥰💕💕 thank you for this, positivity anon <33 ✨

top 5 favorite anime?
ANON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS ASK IS EVERYTHING THANK YOU!!!! i am going to take this so seriously you will come to regret asking this. i can fit so much infodumping into this ask
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Tumblr media
Ok. This anime literally invented women. I cannot emphasize enough how superior the female characters in FMA:B are to any other female character ever. The worldbuilding is so cool (science magic is so dope ngl) and I love the parallels with real-world history! The character development is on another level and the buildup to the climax in the last arc of the series is so ingenious. I'd say it's the Game of Thrones of anime, but it puts Game of Thrones to shame any day of the week. It's one of the first anime I ever watched and I've been obsessed with it for 8 years straight. Absolutely changed my life.
2. Mob Psycho 100
Tumblr media
This show looks so fucking weird. It took me ages to watch it because every time I saw it trending on social media, I thought to myself, "what the fuck? Why does it look like that?" But it's good because of that. Literally everything about this anime is "why does it look like this?" Why doesn't Reigen have any powers when he’s the main character’s sage, wise life coach? Why does Mob want to be normal when he has psychic powers? Why isn't it like other anime? That's exactly the point and it's GREAT. There are so many important themes and messages in this series and it teaches a lot of life lessons. It's also one of those shows where everyone is your blorbo and you will be fed for years by the fandom. God bless.
3. Major
Tumblr media
Guys. Guys, guys, guys. This is, in my humble opinion, the greatest anime ever made. It would be #1 on my list if not for the fact that it's obscure as fuck and also a sports anime. Now I am not a sports anime fan by any stretch of the imagination (Haikyuu who? Kuroko no Basuke what?) but it is so much more than a simple sports anime, I just want to emphasize that right now. It's about baseball, yes, and all the characters do in fact play baseball, but there is so much drama and character development in this show it puts Your Lie in April to shame. You see, there's something very special about this show, and that is that it spans through the entire main character's childhood and adolescence from kindergarten age to adulthood. Progressing through each season was like watching my children grow up. The writing is superb, and I should add that the first five episodes are the best of the entire series and will guarantee that you binge all six seasons in record time. It sounds so corny, but I don't lie when I say that every single episode made me laugh and cry and scream and cheer. Additionally, I have never watched a single baseball game in my life--I picked this series up purely by chance because I saw the cover art of the sequel and decided to give it a try--but I have so many regrets about not playing softball in school now. Every episode is so exciting and thrilling and I'm on the edge of my seat the entire time with anticipation of the end result. Lastly, this is another one of those shows where every single character is my blorbo and I simply do not have a favorite because I love them all more than I can ever express. The sheer depth of emotional attachment I have to this series is truly unhealthy, 10/10 would recommend. Anyway, thank you for listening to my TED Talk and please watch Major. Your skin will be clear and your crops will flourish.
4. Death Note
Tumblr media
I don't even know where to begin here. This show is something else entirely. It's earned a reputation as that show that everyone and their mom is watching, and true enough, it is that show. The suspense in every episode was almost enough to kill me. The psychological warfare is real. It's so refreshing that, for once, I can watch a show where the main character is undeniably, irredeemably corrupt and evil. Give him a book of death and he says "fuck it," goes off-the-walls unhinged, and immediately throws his morals away to begin a career in serial killing and ascend to godhood. Don't even TRY to excuse what he does because it ruins the experience. Even better is the fact that the guy who's trying to enact justice on him is Even Worse. There's also a good helping of gay subtext thrown in if you're into that.
5. Shadows House
Tumblr media
Like Major, this anime is criminally underrated but it's relatively new, so I hope it will get more traction in the future. It has one of the most fresh and intriguing premises I've seen for a long time, with some really unique worldbuilding and lore that blew my mind. I'm not really a slice-of-life person, though I do enjoy mysteries, but this one drew me in from the very first episode and exceeded all my expectations for another average series. I love the character development and writing in this show, the character designs and animation are top-notch, and, again, there is a healthy dose of queer subtext for ALL of the characters (not even just the main characters). Another must-watch for anyone who wants to find that special media that they will become obsessed with on a toxic level and never recover from.

Send me a fandom and I’ll tell you my IZOMBIE
Oooooooh, what a top-tier choice!!!! Thank you!! So I've only watched the show once (time for a rewatch maybe??) and it's like a hundred eps long so I probably forgot a lot of characters lol, but here we go:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) Blaine. Obviously. He's the quintessential charismatic villain who could burn your entire family alive, you'd still say thank you and let him fuck you :-D
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) Raviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii <3 <3 <3 <3 I think he might be the most adorable character that I've ever seen on TV???
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) The gothic dude from IT who plays creepy D&D!! He's absolutely hilarious and I feel like his appearances on-screen are some kind of running joke
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week) Well, it's a crime show, the basic concept is having ephemeral characters each episode, lol! But I must admit I got particularly unhinged by the extremely Rebecca Bunch-esque character played by Rachel Bloom who gets killed two minutes into the episode. But it's mostly because I love Rachel though. But I couldn't shut up about it so it does count!
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) Well the fandom for this show is kinda dead now so I don't really know who's problematic or unpopular, but I wanna say Don E? He's just got this batshit chaotic evil energy that makes him extremely annoying, but also I think he needs a hug, poor thing!
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) Major. He just annoys me. Also he can't let me ship Liv with literally anyone else and that's a war crime.
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell) This dude who dresses up like a 19th-century admiral with the terrible fake French accent... Enzo? Yes. That guy. The accent reaaaally grates on my nerves. Also he's a humorless villain, which is an even bigger war crime.
Also it's my blog so I do what I want and I'm gonna add a category here:
ergluboobilido (character that I couldn't fit in any previous category but for some reason really want to be part of this list) LIV <3 <3 <3. I can't do an ask meme about iZombie and not talk about her, c'mon!
Send me a fandom and i'll tell you ergluboobilido
