Series Masterlist
——————————————————
September 16, 2022
Today marks one week. You have officially been roommates with Joe for one week.
It hasn't been terrible, just a little, awkward? It's easy to see neither of you really want to live together. He would much rather live with Ja'Marr—which you don't blame him.
Take that as you will.
Throughout the past week you’ve been trying to settle yourself into the apartment. You’ve been replacing some things around the apartment to make it known that it wasn't just Joe who lived here. Like in the kitchen, you added a vase of pink flowers. The gray cabinets and white marble countertops of the kitchen needed some color. You bought pink towels for the bathroom too, which didn't go over great with Joe.
flashback…
"Y/n!”
You sighed as you stood from your bed. You walked out of your room and into the space between the living room and kitchen.
"Yeah?!" you called out.
Joe stepped out of the bathroom, holding up a pink towel. He gave you a look, raising his eyebrows and expecting you to explain why his bath towels are now pink.
You shrugged, "Beige is boring. So I put my pink ones in there."
"You can't do that."
"Last time I checked, it's my bathroom too. If I want pink towels, I can have them in there."
Joe scoffed, "Okay well, what did you do with mine?"
"They're still in there? You just grabbed the pink one."
He huffed out a dramatic sigh.
"Y/n, I can't have pink towels in my bathroom. I don't care if you use them, just keep them in your room."
You rolled your eyes, "Oh come on, seriously? You worried your friends are going to make fun of you for having pink towels?"
"Yeah, actually, I am!"
You couldn't help but laugh. He was so worried about these damn towels.
"Okay, fine. I'll get 'em out of there after your shower. Happy?"
"Very." He said, going back into the bathroom and shutting the door.
end of flashback…
Now you didn't have to worry about making the bedroom your own. Since that was void of any of Joes belongings, you could do whatever you wanted with it. You kept it simple, yet feminine. You have a gray comforter, with soft pink pillows and a fluffy pink blanket to match on the foot of the bed. You have a full body mirror on the wall next to the bed, with decorative flowers on the sides. You also bough canvas' to put on the wall that you got from TJ Maxx before you moved here.
You already loved your room. Spending most of your time in there this week while Joe was home. You and Joe tolerate each other for the most part. You don't really go out of your way to talk to each other yet. Both of you are still trying to get used to living with the other.
Most days, Joe has practice all day and the days he gets out of practice early, he goes out and does stuff with his teammates. So the days he's at practice, you go out to the living room or out to the pool, since it still feels like summer in Cincinnati. Now you don't plan on staying inside the apartment this whole year, obviously. You are going to go into the city and find a job when Joe's in Dallas this weekend for his game. Hopefully finding a good job will keep you busy so you can stay out of Joe's hair.
You decided to add some decorations to the living room. Nothing too extravagant, just some pastel pink decorative pillows for both ends of the couch, along with gray marble coasters. They were the perfect addition to the living room in your opinion. Joe, now he might think otherwise. Just a few days ago, you were adding some finishing touches to your room when Joe barged into your room to talk about the apartment.
flashback…
"Hmm," you thought out loud, “this doesn't look right."
You were currently trying to organize your closet. Trying to color code your clothes, but it just wasn't working out for you. So you decided to reorganize your closet for the third time now.
You sang along quietly to Love Game by Lady Gaga, "Let's have some fun this beat is sick, I wanna take a ride on your disco-."
The door burst open, causing you to jump.
"Jesus," you breathed out, placing a hand on your chest.
It was just Joe.
"Sorry," he laughed, "I didn't mean to scare you."
You paused the music before splitting your attention between him and the clothes you were hanging up. "What do you need?"
Joe sighed, crossing his arms over his chest. "We need to have a talk. About the apartment."
You furrowed your brow in confusion. "Okay?"
"I want to start by saying, I don't mind if you use anything in this apartment, you know all that what's mine is yours bullshit."
You nodded as he continued.
"I just don't want you moving my...important stuff."
Oh no. You don't remember moving any of his things?
He rubbed the back of his neck, "You moved my SpongeBob shoes and condoms."
You let out a loud laugh and then instantly covered your mouth. You took your hand away and composed yourself, “Sorry, I'm sorry."
Joe just rolled his eyes as you let out a little chuckle.
SpongeBob shoes and condoms, now that's the first time you’ve heard those two things in one sentence.
"I'm sorry Joe. I won't move your shoes again."
"Thank you."
You put your hands on your hips, "But the condoms? I think I had every right to put those up."
"But they're mine! I can choose where they go."
"Okay but not on the kitchen counter!?"
He threw his hands up "They weren't used!?"
"So!? They're still condoms, Joe!"
He just shook his head as you spoke.
"I don't care who you screw, when you screw, where you-well, I kind of care where, but whatever. As I was saying, I don't care who you screw just don't keep the condoms in the kitchen."
He sighed, smiling smugly, "Fine. I'll keep 'em in the bathroom. Wait, even better my bedroom. Happy?"
"Very." you said nodding your head and giving him a tight smile.
end of flashback…
So you and and Joe aren't exactly off to the best start...
You will admit, it is partially your fault. You just want the place to look like you live here too. It's not just his place anymore!
After adding some more of your own things around the apartment, you decided to head out to the pool for a bit. You put on a bright red bikini. The top was triangle shaped and the bottoms were high leg, shaping your body perfectly. You slipped on your white flip flops and grabbed a beach towel from the closet. You went into the kitchen and filled up your water bottle before heading down to the pool. Joe wasn't supposed to be back for about another hour, so you figured you would stay out there and relax for a bit. You picked out a beach chair and laud down, putting your sunglasses on and airpods in your ears, blasting your favorite songs as you basked in the warmth of the sunlight.
meanwhile...
Joe's Pov:
"Yo! Burrow!"
I looked up from my phone, seeing Ja'Marr and Logan jogging over to me. I put my phone in my pocket and turned to the guys.
"What's up guys?"
"We still on for tonight?" Ja'Marr asked, placing a hand on my shoulder. I nodded, "Oh yeah. You guys can follow me home."
Logan nodded, "Sounds good. Let me call Macee real quick, then I'll be right over."
"Man you better make that call quick, I don't need to hear no phone sex right now." Ja'Marr shuddered.
I smirked, "You'll be hearing that on the plane tomorrow, my guy."
Ja'Marr laughed, "Not from you."
Logan smirked and clapped my shoulder, "I'm sure Burrows got a lady friend...he's just keeping her from us."
"Oh you know, wouldn't want her to fall in love with you, Ja'Marrr. You're fuckin' crazy."
"And you're not?" Logan questioned with raised eyebrows.
I shrugged, "Touché."
Ja'Marr and Logan laughed. Logan spoke, "Alright, well I'll see y'all at Burrows apartment."
I nodded. "Yup."
I got into my Porsche and turned the car on. As soon as I sat down, my eyes widened in realization.
My apartment. The guys are coming to my apartment. Shit. They don't know about Y/n.
"Ah fuck." I muttered under my breath as I backed out of my parking spot.
I had to get there before Ja'Marr and Logan did so I could talk to Y/n and maybe get her to go somewhere else for the night so the guys and I had the apartment to ourselves.
I know that makes me sound like a dick, asking her to go somewhere else for the night. But Y/n and I aren't exactly starting off on the best terms. We've started to discover how to get under each others skin and it's only been the first week of living together. Based on how we've started, who knows what it'll be like ten weeks from now.
She seems like a sweet girl and she's very pretty...I just don't think we make good roommates, at all. And the last people I want her to meet right now are my teammates, especially since she and I aren't getting along great right now.
I pulled into the lot by my apartment, parking in my usual spot. I quickly turned the car off and went to my apartment, not even caring about grabbing my bag from practice. I had more important things to do. I pulled my key out and unlocked door. Walking into the apartment, I was met with silence.
Eerie silence.
"Y/n?” I called out. Nothing. I sighed, and walked to her room. I peered into her room. Nothing.
"Great," I sighed, "this is great."
I could only hope she didn't come home while the guys were over. They'd never let me hear the end of it if they saw her.
————————————————————————
You took your AirPods out and put them back in their case. You had been outside for almost two hours, so you decided to head back inside. You picked up your phone and looked at the time. You were hoping you would still get some time to yourself, but unfortunately Joe would be back from practice by now. You slipped on your flip flops and grabbed your towel, ready to head back to your apartment and shower.
You went to unlock the door but stopped when you heard voices and laughter.
Joe never told you he was having friends over!? If you would've known they were coming over you would have never gone to the pool! Now you have to walk in in just your bikini!? Oh lord...
You took a deep breath and unlocked the door.
"Burrow, man why the hell do you have pink towels in your bath-oh."
You walked into the apartment, shutting the door behind you. You stood awkwardly at the door.
Joe was sitting on the couch with Logan Wilson. You noticed Joe's eyes widen when he saw you walk in. His eyes slowly scanned down your body. He was practically drooling at the sight of you in your red bikini. You’ll have to mention that to him later...
You wrapped the towel around your body, covering yourself up. Joe took his gaze off of you and turned to Logan instead. The two of them having a beer while Ja'Marr Chase was standing in the doorway of the bathroom, holding up your pink towel. Ja'Marr turned the bathroom light off and walked back out into the living room.
Logan looked at you with a smirk, "I knew Burrow had a special lady he was keeping from us."
You felt your face heat up. "Oh no. No, we're not dating."
"Nope. Never." Joe said shaking his head.
Ja'Marr looked between you and Joe, “Look, I ain't here to judge, if you two are fuck buddies and you're here for him to take you to pound town, I get it. If that's the case Wilson and I are gone."
"Oh my god." Joe said, sighing.
"Dude," Logan said, putting his hand out, stopping Ja'Marr, "don't ever say that again."
Ja'Marr put his hands up in defense, "I'm just sayin! Look at her, she is gorgeous. If Burrow isn't with her I may have to-."
"Okay, okay, stop." Joe said, standing up and waving him off.
You couldn't help the faint laugh that escaped your mouth as you watched the guys interact. Joe stood up and pointed at you.
"Logan, Ja'Marr. This is Y/n, my roommate." He turned to you, “Y/n, these are my teammates and best friends Ja'Marr and Logan."
You smiled, waving at them, "Hi guys, it's nice to meet you."
Logan waved back, “It's nice to meet you too. Joe didn't tell us he had a roommate."
"And a gorgeous one at that." Ja'Marr said with a wink. Joe rolled his eyes at his best friend as you smiled sheepishly, muttering a thank you.
"I don't want to intrude on your guys night, so I'm going to go shower real quick and then I'll be out of your hair."
The guys nodded.
"You're welcome to join us though." Logan said with a smile.
"Mmm..." Joe trailed off quietly.
"Thank you," you said, gratefully. However, you eyed Joe as you continued, "but I'll just stay in my room. I'd hate to ruin poor Joe's night. It was good meeting you guys though, enjoy your night."
With that, you walked off to my room, shutting the door and locking it. Ja'Marr and Logan watched with wide eyes as Joe stood with his lips in a thin line.
"Woah." was all Ja'Marr said.
Joe plopped himself back down on the couch with a huff. He grabbed his beer bottle and took a swig before he spoke.
"So that's Y/n. She's lovely isn't she?"
"Man," Logan sighed, "what was that?"
"What do you mean?"
"I can still feel the tension, sheesh." Ja'Marr replied, shaking his head.
Joe shrugged, "Well, she and I aren't exactly, friends."
Ja'Marr laughed, "Burrow, I'd say you're enemies at this point."
Joe shook his head, "Whatever. I only have to live with her for a year, after that I'll never have to see her again."
Logan chuckled, "Don't you at least want to try to get along with her? I mean, you don't want to be miserable for the whole year, neither does she."
"Yeah, I guess. I think she forgets I lived here first though. It's kind of annoying, the things she does," he sighs, "I just don't-." Your bedroom door opening caused Joe to stop his sentence. You walked out of your room and made your way to the bathroom, not even acknowledging the guys. As soon as you got into the bathroom you leaned up against the door, letting out a heavy sigh.
This has been one extremely long and exhausting week.
But if Joe thinks you’re annoying already, then he better get prepared.
Because you’re just getting started.
hey loves!!
we're finally getting into the good stuff for this book—YAY!
i'm having so much fun writing this. i've said this before, but i really cant wait for you all to see what i have planned for this book :)

Claire McCallister knows Becky Botsford is WordGirl.
Tumblr media
I know! I know! Give me a second to explain and break this down.
In the very first episode of the series "Tobey or Consequences", Claire is shown to be intelligent enough to craft together devices to counter her son's robots.
This shows she's just as if not more intelligent than Tobey! There's the argument that could be made that Tobey made those devices but why would she make him? He would be able to program ways to short-wire them.
In the same episode, it was referenced that WordGirl calls Mrs. McCallister whenever Tobey commits crimes. Now I know this isn't much evidence, but let's say for this theory, she met Becky by now. This could be when she was suspicious because of how similar "Becky" and "WordGirl's" voice was.
If that ain't enough to convince you, maybe this will. In "By Jove You've Wrecked My Robot", Tobey tells Becky and I quote:
"And if you try to run off and turn into WordGirl, I'll use all the robots to destroy the city."
Now, if Claire's as smart as Tobey and we're using that for this theory, I'm pretty sure when she sees Becky, she'll put the pieces together in similar reasons. "The same hair color, the same skin tone, the same lips" as Tobey points out: "You and WordGirl are the same height, the same hair style and color... The same sparkingly smile. The same ruby lips..."
Now if Tobey put these pieces together, I think Claire, through enough time, could do so as well. I think the reason why she doesn't say anything is because one she has to make sure her son is punished for his crimes. And two, she respects WordGirl enough to not risk anyone who would use that information incorrectly to find out. The only reason she doesn't say anything to Sally who is her friend is because she either found out she doesn't know, think she knows and just playing an act and so acts none the wiser, or just don't want to ruin the current dynamic with the possibility that the Botsfords doesn't know. Another reason, she knows Tobey's happier around WordGirl and doesn't want him to be bothering Becky in her private life.
Tumblr media
This is "Robo Camp", a fairly early episode, being season 2 episode 11. At this point, she was trying to push him to cease doing robot activities:
Claire: This is going to be an important trip for you, Tobey, because you’re going to learn to appreciate nature. And hopefully grow out of this silly robot phase.
Tobey: Yes, Mother. That would make sense, except that nature is a thing of the past! Technology and robots are--
Claire: TOBEY! No robots! I don’t want a repeat of what happened last summer at basketball camp... Or two summers ago at baseball camp!.. Or last, last, LAST summer at drama camp!... I mean it, Tobey! No giant robots, end of story! You need to be more independent, and learn to do things on your own!
Btw, I think the reason why they're not very close is because they don't understand each other not that she doesn't care about him or vice versa, but I won't get into that into this blog.
Tumblr media
I can see Claire having a moment where she realizes: "Wait a minute Tobey's not happy around other kids. He's more lively around WordGirl and enjoys her company..." That type of thing. So she doesn't do much to try to stop him, not that she approves, but because she genuinely loves Tobey and values his feelings, even though she wishes he would stop with the robot attacks.
It would also explain the reason why she doesn't remove his robot privileges permanently. For people who follow abusive Claire, there's so many things to debunk this. Like in the "Talent Show Tobey" episode where she was cheering Tobey on and was genuinely proud of him until his robot destroyed the building. Given Tobey entrapped WordGirl into reading poems in this episode, you would think she wouldn't care about WordGirl. Well, do remember that it's not like Claire knows. She just thought WordGirl agreed, and was happy that Tobey was doing something she'd viewed as productive and WordGirl was kind enough to help him out.
Tumblr media
(More happy Claire please! 💯💯💯)
In the "Guess Who's Coming To Thanksgiving Dinner" episode, she was trying to enjoy the holiday, and when he left, she was searching literally everywhere for him. When he came back, she was happy to see him.
Tumblr media
(WE NEEDED MORE SCENES WITH THEM JUST BEING 😁)
In "New Year of Doom!" Tobey and Claire smiled at each other on top of a robot throughout the New Year count-probably the most touching moment between the two and shows she supports whenever he builds his robots just in a constructive way.
Tumblr media
I think if she wanted to, she would scrap all of his robots. She literally could, but she knows she would end up breaking his heart. He would be broken because he'll be forced to quit similar to when Miss Power threatened to never allow Dr. Two Brains to have cheese again. She always gave me reluctant disciplinarian type of vibes and would never do anything that would break his little heart. Off topic for a bit, that's why I wish there were more fics about Claire redeeming Tobey instead of Becky because, while I'm all for Tobecky, I feel like that makes more sense considering Tobey pressed so many buttons and disrespects her, and Becky's still a child at the end of the day while Claire is an adult so her mind is wiser, he's her son, and has more reasons to redeem him. Most of all, WordGirl's one of the superheroes of the city and don't have any obligation to redeem any of the villains besides maybe Dr. Two Brains with the whole mouse brain dilemma. She could guide them, but I feel like she would be suspicious about Tobey's change at least for a while. One last thing, while I do like redemption stories, the characters themselves have to change. Guidance is different from forcing them to switch sides. Claire redeeming Tobey stories would allow more ground to be given if that makes sense.
That aside, now, let's say Tobecky happens, and they sort out their issues especially with Tobey's (there's plenty of them as Go Gadget Go shows) I can imagine something like this occurring when a teenager or adult Becky inevitably has to tell Claire she's WordGirl because let's be honest it would avoid a lot of awkwardness. I even see her telling her family eventually, but this is how I actually see it going:
"Mrs. McCallister, I'm WordGirl..."
"...I am not blind, Becky. Though I have tried to be, for Tobey's sake. And for yours. I have suspected things about WordGirl a long time ago. I have put the pieces together as he had, though we do not speak of it. I... pretend that I don't know. And I was happy to, because it made him happy. WordGirl made him happy, when nothing else ever truly could."
If a teenage or adult WordGirl series or some other thing that continues the show ever happened where this theory was true, how do you think Becky would react to Claire knowing that she was WordGirl?

me, currently ✨
Thanks for tagging me @virgo-dream!
Fave color: It changes, but at the moment, it's a nice kelly green.
Currently reading: An ARC of Last to Leave the Room by @see-starling. It comes out in October, and if you like spooky shit as much (or even a fraction of as much) as I do, you should definitely preorder it.
Last song: Elis Regina & Tom Jobim - "Aguas de Março", one of my all time faves
youtube
Last series: The Bear, which I am absolutely about to turn around and re-watch because holy ensemble work, batman.
Last movie: Run, Rabbit, Run, which is a horror movie starring my wife, Sarah Snook, and if they thought they were going to put me off her with that character they thought wrong. Unfortunately, the writing is pretty meh, so I can only recommend it if you're as thirsty as I am.
Currently working on: A serialized romance for Kindle Vella and Radish, a Magnus Archives WIP, and a relatively short Dreamling fic I hope to start posting soon.
No-pressure tagging: @tryan-a-bex, @chaosheadspace, @themirokai, @missjesselsgh0st, @tj-dragonblade

Hey! I know it’s been like… a year, but do you still have any thoughts about your DNDads magical girl au?? It looks really cool and I’m a bit late to the party!
Tumblr media
Soooo this made me revisit my old designs and since i improved a lot i just might re-do some of them, still keeping mostly to the ogs. Also hi im sorry for not replying earlier (this has been sitting in my ask box for a whileee) but i'm happy people are still intrested in it.
Honestly i've been thinking about the og dads as magical girls more lately but unfortunetly i suffer from can't draw middle aged man and give them justice yet syndrome so I havent yet.
I'm honestly always half thinking about making a whole ass comic out of this au because i absolutly adore it as a concept (if any actual writters wanna hit me up feel free to i have vague ideas but im not much of a writter).
But well i think the teens got their powers from a generational thing maybe, like the kiddads had some magical gems that belonged to the odyssey dads and just before they were kidnapped they passed them onto the kids. (Lark and Sparrow had one half of a stone/gem), oh and so Normals gem is cracked perhaps and that's why he struggles with his powers maybe?!) (can you tell im basiclly making all of this on the fly?)
Also the gems would change color slightly depending on the user (thought i dont think they would do a lot because in my head each family has their color and it doesnt change much)
Each magical girl has their own theme (it can be a mix of stuff, and sometimes its pretty vague) but i had a few designs/ideas floating aroung for the kiddads with Sparrow with a wolf theme (and maybe he and Lark having a sun and moon motif), TJ with a wizard+wampire+some mcr/goth influences etc.
The plot is a lot like canon only more anime magical girl trope and i think i would enjoy a bit more slice of life since with an au we can afford that. The mayor would be a major villain, there would be a few one episode villains like in the early season stuff, and over the course of the series the plot would unveil.
Of course most of this is completly hipothetical since its mostly just the thoughts in my head but it is fun to think about, and i do genuinely wanna revisit this au :)

⭐️ i would absolutely love to hear anything that you have to say about the orange colored sky universe. completely obsessed with that relationship and the way that it feels so real, r and eddie argue and have faults and are just so normal!! but also the side relationships that you have incorporated with Eddie and steve and both of their relationships with Gwen <3 such a run-on but it’s a masterpiece to me!
Director's Cut Ask Game This is an excerpt from 'Agitated from the Shadows, Can I Take it All Back' in the Orange Colored Sky universe:
"Can I..." but you trail off, not wanting to invite yourself -- uncomfortable in the silence. In the way he doesn't look at you, in the way he feels far away. The sound of the bathroom door closing puts a weight in your belly, your heart thrums, heat rises on the back of your neck. You settle in on the couch, the steady hum from the central air makes your eyelids heavy -- it was already a late night. You scroll on your phone, listening while the water hits the shower floor up stairs, wishing he'd invited you up. You feel sticky from the heat outside, from the bar air, from the beer someone spilled on your legs. Maybe you should just go.
Director's Cut: Under the Cut
I really wanted the reader to feel the emotional and physical discomfort of this scene. Like, that feeling at the end of a long summer night where your skin is kind of damp and your clothes are sticking to you. The way a leather couch sticks to the backs of your thighs? And you're so uncomfortable you just want to shower and you sort of feel ugly and sweaty? And not only that but the guy you're seeing seems mad at you, or at worst -- disappointed. That sort of tear between, 'Am I overreacting?' or 'Should I just go?'
Weirdly I was sort of grappling with myself writing this scene because it reminded me of some discomfort I had with some partners of mine when I thought someone was 'mad' at me. I feel like Peach, even though she's a 'reader' character, really struggles with 'assumption'. She hasn't really grown out of the 'deciding something is bad' phase and is challenging herself to be like 'Let me face this head on, actually.' This can also be seen in the chapter where he takes her to his house when she gets drunk in the LES. She just 'decides' he doesn't like her anymore.
I think something that's true in most of my fics is that I never like making couples totally okay. Because in my experience, real life couples aren't always totally okay either. My sister and her husband fight sometimes and they are like -- so in love. I think it's easy to romanticize love and relationships in the fandom space and I also think it's GOOD. People should live happily ever after. But I also like to bring some really grounding humanity to the worlds I build so that people can truly see parts of themselves in the fic. Also, any time I write Steve in any of these (for the most part, aside from blurbs) I run it by @loveshotzz because he is from her summer series All I Really Want Is You and is also the main inspo (aside from the hot older guy I saw at TJs that day) for this series!

In terms of genuinely problematic art, I'd like people to look up "Authors Behaving Badly - TJ Klune" on YouTube
Slight correction (not same anon, but I've watched the video anon is talking about): Cerulean Sea was inspired by the Sixties Scoop, which "was a period in which a series of policies were enacted in Canada that enabled child welfare authorities to take, or "scoop up," Indigenous children from their families and communities for placement in foster homes, from which they would be adopted by white families" (Wikipedia). It's different from the residential schools but no less horrifying.
Klune found out about the Sixties Scoop by clicking on different wikipedia articles to read them. He felt inspired, but he also didn't want to write a historical fiction book based on it, as he's a white man and didn't feel like it was his place. Instead, he took part of the event (children being taken from their homes and placed into foster homes) and put it into a fantasy setting.
On it's own, the idea isn't uncommon in fantasy settings. Iirc, The Night and it's Moon uses a similar idea for part of the story, where the nun(?) running an orphanage buys children (fairy-related ones I think?) to later sell. Before Klune's interview, even those that saw a connection between what was happening in Cerulean Sea and the Sixties Scoop thought it was a coincidence.
Now, some things Klune has said in his interview is... not malicious but I'd argue tone-deaf and ignorant. Like when he says how in his book, the kids are stolen due to fear, and the way he says this makes it sounds like he's saying this about bigotry in general, which is a common stance but not right and puts the onus on those of us who are marginalized to be "not scary" or my beloathed "one of the good ones."
And in the video, the booktuber mentions how people are critiquing the sequel of Cerulean Sea, how it's coming out in September, which is Indigenous Heritage Month, and the booktuber claims that this seems to be Klune "doubling down" on how he's done nothing wrong. She (the booktuber) also claims that the fact that orange is a prominent color on the sequel's cover is also proof of this, due to Orange Shirt Day in Canada (which is a day to raise awareness about the residential schools). Two problems I immediately see about this claim: When going through a publisher, it's the publisher who chooses the release date, not the author, and on the cover is a phoenix (firebird?). Now, I haven't read Cerulean Sea (other than "it's gay," it didn't sound like something that would interest me), but based on fanart I've seen, a phoenix or firebird is very important to the story or one of the characters, and being on fire, of course it's going to be at least mostly orange. So this part at least is a reach, and based on the booktuber's past videos, I'm disappointed but not surprised she didn't at least entertain these arguments, especially when she does research for these videos.
Again, I did not read Cerulean Sea, I don't plan on reading the sequel, and I'm not indigenous. And while I'm not always the mentioned booktuber's biggest fan (she does make a lot of good points in plenty of her videos, and she's still miles better than others in being willing to admit when she's been wrong or reactionary, such as in her review for Ninth House), so take what I've said with a grain of salt.
The booktuber also brings up how Klune has been willing to learn and change with another book of his, and based on the quotes I've seen from him, I really think he's being ignorant, but not malicious. I do think his books can be criticized as being "white savior"-y after what's been learned from his interview, especially when there have been people who had already made the connection even before Klune verified his inspiration.

Biting + Putting the Condom on for them + In Space OR Beyond the Grid; Andros/Zhane & T.J.
I haven't heard of Beyond the Grid, I apologize. For writing purposes (and due to my own publicly posted headcanons), I'll specify that everyone is above age and legal by Terran standards in this fic. Also, I'm sorry if it cuts off weirdly or seems rushed. I lost motivation and couldn't find it again.
~
"You want me to do what now?" TJ asks, shocked.
Zhane pins Andros' hand again, warm fingers wrapped tightly around his wrist. "He won't stop moving, so I need another hand."
TJ watches the pair before him. His Red and Silver, Andros and Zhane. They make a pretty pairing, Zhane carefree and wild, while Andros is rigid and uptight. TJ hadn't thought they were dating when he'd met Andros - hell, he'd thought Andros was completely uninterested when he'd met the Space Ranger. They're both so young, only 20 by Terran standard. TJ had been hesitant when they'd approached him with this proposing.
TJ shakes his head, clearing the thoughts that threaten to pull him out of the mood. "You sure? I'm only supposed to be in here to watch, I don't want to mess anything up for you."
Zhane laughs. "Oh, he won't mind," Silver Space replies. He offers a bright smile. "I just need you to put the condom on me, then you can go back to watching."
TJ hums. He'd never thought this was where he'd be when he agreed to take over for Tommy as Turbo Red. Sitting here naked and watching his Sixth Ranger fuck his Red while he got his rocks off by touching himself and seeing. Life has a funny way of working out, though, so TJ decides to roll with it.
He stands, cock hard and heavy between his legs. "Alright," he replies.
It's quick work from there. TJ feels like he blinks and misses time. Zhane seems to take no time from when TJ carefully rolls the condom on his weeping cock, he moves immediately to prepping Andros quickly and thoroughly, lining up and pushing in.
Andros makes a choked noise, a gasp stuttering in his chest. TJ's cock jumps, he cups his balls in one hand and rubs the pad of his thumb over the drooling slit of his dick. TJ hadn't thought Andros would be so...
"Yeah, that's it, baby," Zhane murmurs, grinding in slow and steady. "Mm, just like that. Lie back and take it."
Andros whines, low and pleading. TJ's dick jumps again as he sits back down. TJ can't deny that his Red and Silver are very attractive, especially together. He can't deny that he's attracted to watching them get off, acting like he's not even there. Well, Zhane is, Andros is usually too far gone to notice or know about anything that isn't Zhane.
Zhane makes a little growling noise as TJ gets lost in the moment again. Zhane's silver colored hair and light eyes make perfect complement for Andros' dark hair and brown eyes. They make a perfect pair in general. TJ adores them, he's thankful they let him in on this relationship they share.
Andros breathes heavily, little moans pouring off his lips as Zhane thrusts forward, pushing in with speed that shouldn't be possible for humans.
TJ bites back his own moan, not missing the way Zhane looks up and meets TJ's eyes with a smirk. Without preamble, Zhane proceeds to lean forward and whisper. "You want the marks tonight?" he asks.
Andros... doesn't reply with any language the blue ranger has ever heard, but by the frantic tone and eager nodding, TJ guesses it's a yes. Zhane smirks again, still looking directly at TJ. "Good boy," he says. "Good boy." Then he sinks his teeth into Andros' unprotected neck, causing a loud groan, then a gasp followed by a series of helpless puppy whimpers.
TJ can't say he remembers much else from that night. He just knows it was some of the best sex (kind of) he's ever had in his life.

Books read July-September
July The Grace of Wild Things by Heather Fawcett. A completely enchanting Anne of Green Gables retelling. Utterly delightful and unique. Book Lovers by Emily Henry. My first book that I’ve read of hers and it set high standards for the rest of them. I loved the characters, I loved the romance, and it just made me feel all the feelings. The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh (audio). A retelling of a Korean fairytale that I knew nothing about. I loved the voice actor (she sounded a lot like Christina Chong from Strange New Worlds). Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune (audio). Drove to Yellowstone and back and this was one of my listens. I think it was even better as an audiobook – the voices were great. Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. I loved this book and I didn’t think I would, but it was written for my generation and dealt a lot with college and nostalgia and evolving friendships. A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher. I don’t like her horror as much as I like her fairy tales and fantasy. A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland. A m/m romance set in a fictional Islamic-like world. The world building was fantastic, the magic building was disappointing, and the romance was sweet, if slow-building. The Celebrants by Steven Rowley. I almost gave up on this entirely after the first chapter, because it felt pretentious and dull and “look how adult we are because we are talking about using drugs”, but I kept reading because I liked the premise and by about half way through, I realized that i really liked the story and most of the characters. College nostalgia seems to be my thing right now, and this really captured that friendship – they just all needed less reliance on substances when having conversations. It made me want to do something similar with my friends.
August: Strange Planet by Nathan Pye. I really like his comics so this was a fun quick read from the library. In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune (audio). The book on the drive back from Yellowstone. I didn’t really like the voice actor, which is surprising because I loved his voices in The House in the Cerulean Sea. The rhythm of his voice was off-putting. Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman. Second book of the Arc of the Scythe series. A very solid second book. Nottingham: The True Story of Robyn Hood by Anna Burke. A gender swapped Robin Hood story – fast read and fun. The Emperor’s Soul by Brandon Sanderson. Friend recommendation. My first Brandon Sanderson read. This was a well developed little novella and an ending that surprised me and yet fit quite well. The Color of Money: Black Banks and the Racial Wealth Gap by Mehrsa Baradaran (audio). Truly depressing but important look at how systemic racism and blatant racism lead to the wealth gap. Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. Lovely book, with interwoven characters, and plenty of gray humor. The Moon by Night by Madeleine L’Engle. I had a hankering to reread this after my failed to launch summer romances. Definitely felt the age of this book (written in the 1960s) and the pacing is much different than I remembered, but still some sweet parts. Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki. I don’t even know how to describe this book. Space opera meets Faust? Foster by Claire Keegan. So much atmosphere packed in this short story. Beach Read by Emily Henry. Not quite as good as Book Lovers, but a close second. They just never read on a beach… Carry: A Memoir of Survival on Stolen Land by Toni Jensen. Book club. This was unexpectedly powerful and the theme of gun violence through was subtle but important. People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry. This was definitely a “you are my story had I had done what I could not do” for me so it probably hit me a little differently than others. It worked well as a When Harry Meets Sally rewrite. Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher. A short Sleeping Beauty retelling of a sort. I adored Toadling. Meet the Austins by Madeleine L’Engle. Went back to read book 1 since I felt like I had missed things with the Moon at Night. I don’t know if I’ll read the whole series again. Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. I keep expecting really terrible things to happen to her characters so I’m on edge when reading, but it’s never as bad as I fear.
September: Happy Place by Emily Henry. I was quite in my unhappy place by the end of this book and could grumble about it for hours. The Toll by Neal Shusterman. I can understand why there was some disappointment with the ending of the trilogy but I thought it was quite fitting and I loved the last chapter. Dinners with Ruth: A Memoir on the Power of Friendships by Nina Totenberg. Made me really miss Ruth Bater Ginsberg, but I also liked the focus on how friendships enrich adults lives (I’m liking this theme of friendship much better than the problems with mothers of the first half of the year). A Deadly Education, The Last Graduate, and The Golden Enclaves by Naomi Novik. Friend recommendation. I found the 1st person narrative to be claustrophobic as it was all stream of consciousness and the world-building a little too pretentious, but the story was still enjoyable. Mortal Follies by Alexis Hall. His books are always hit or miss for me and this one fell into more of the miss bucket – the mystery solved itself halfway through, the next quarter was my least favorite romance trope, and then it was off for another mystery.
Currently reading: Firekeeper’s Daughter (tried this one on audio and it was too much teenager angst, so reading it instead, Braiding Sweetgrass (audio), The Romance Rx (I’m so determined to find a good doctors in training story. I’m a quarter of the way through and can tell you that this won’t be it).
Friend recommendations still to go: The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan, Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel, Sweet Like Jasmine by Bonnie Gray, Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt.

Prince Harry’s Dior Shirt Is a Perfect Example of His New Laid-Back California-Inspired Style
Prince Harry stepped out in London wearing one of Meghan Markle's favorite brands.

Prince Harry Attends High Court Hearing In Privacy Lawsuit - Day Four
Belinda Jiao/Getty Images
It’s a big week for celebrity court fashion! While Gwyneth Paltrow dominates the conversation around her skiing trial with a series of runway-worth “stealth wealth” looks, Prince Harry is across the pond rocking some subtly high-end duds of his own to another set of legal proceedings. Harry is currently visiting the UK for a hearing on his lawsuit against Associated Newspapers for illegal information gathering, and while he’s been modeling similar variations of the same sleek, low-key suits all week, his particular choice of shirt on Thursday, March 30, caught followers’ eyes.
Photos from Harry leaving the High Court in London show the former royal’s jacket blown open enough that you can see a bee logo on his white collared shirt, identifying it as Dior. The Dior bee shirt is a cotton poplin dress shirt with a bee embroidered in 18-carat gold thread, finished with mother-of-pearl Dior signature buttons and a shirt-tail hem, available on the Dior website for $1,000. It’s also a perfect symbol of Harry’s new laid-back approach to fashion since moving to California.
During his time in the royal family, Harry had to abide by strict rules around style (though not as strict as those applied to Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton). His suits would reflect the formality of the occasion he was attending and little else, and Harry always looked like someone who was more comfortable in clothes he could wear on the polo field or out camping. Harry spoke fondly in his memoir Spare about shopping the bargain aisles at discount chain TJ Maxx as he grew up: “when they’d be flush with items from Gap or J.Crew, items that had just gone out of season or were slightly damaged.”

LONDON, ENGLAND - MARCH 30: Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex attends the Royal Courts of Justice as the lawsuit against the Associated Newspapers enters its final day on March 30, 2023 in London, England. Prince Harry is one of several claimants in a lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mail. (Photo by Karwai Tang/WireImage)
Since he started dating and then married Meghan Markle in 2018, royal followers noticed immediately that his style was becoming sharper, borrowing more frequently from high-end designers and often matching her impeccable looks in color palette. As he and Meghan went on to exit the royal family in 2020, Harry’s style evolution has continued: The suits are fitting better every year, and he’s learning how to meld his love of comfortable clothes with a more grown-up look.
Harry has worn a series of suits and white collared shirts in demure blues and grays for his court appearances this week, but little touches like Monday’s skinny blue tie or Thursday’s Dior shirt point to the Prince breaking away from years of doing the bare minimum to dress appropriately and turning towards a genuine enjoyment in choosing his style, dressing in pieces that subtly scream quality while accomplishing the same polished and polite look that’s appropriate for these proceedings.
Call it the L.A. effect, call it the Meghan Markle effect, call it whatever you like—Prince Harry is looking good these days, and he knows it.
