Why did Cas kill Balthazar?

Sometimes I chat with folks and we're surprised to revisit the fact that Cas killed Balthazar in a fit of cruel paranoia before he ever gulped in the soul juice.

Cas is incredibly paranoid when he kills Balthazar, and it was quite possibly one of his worst moments. It seems irrational and mad at the time, but Cas's psyche is actually very understandable. Cas was betrayed by Heaven numerous times from seasons 4-6. That set him up to be backed into a corner.

In early season 4, Heaven drags him in for torture for daring to even consider warning Dean about their corrupt plans.

Uriel tries to kill him and join Lucifer.

At the end of season 4, Cas gets brutally murdered for standing up for what he feels is right. Bazillions of years of military service and loyalty mean nothing to his superiors, and he's vaporized in an instant. He seems particularly betrayed by Raphael.

When Cas returns to Heaven post-Apocalypse #1, he's ashamed that they want to start up Apocalypse #2. He even stands against Raphael at first! Interestingly, Raphael doesn't kill him again but "knocks him into next week." I think this hints that Raphael was at one time fond of Castiel, or else he'd have simply killed him again.

So, angelic civil war.

Cas doesn't go to Dean or Sam or Bobby because he's ashamed of Heaven, and above all, he wants to protect them. Not to mention, he didn't want to make them a target because to angels, they're a relatively soft target. While he's in battle, he can't be there to protect them.

So away, Cas and Crowley go for a SuperMario power-up by tapping Purgatory's battery. Meanwhile, Cas convinces a team of angels to stand with him against Raphael.

Even with his "show of power" via the souls Crowley loaned to him (and I'm guessing Cas can wield soul power in a way Crowley cannot?), that's still a big risk those rebel angels are taking.

And Cas doesn't tell them critical parts of his plan. Because he knows his plan is wrong. He doesn't even tell Balthazar everything. But more importantly, he doesn't trust Heaven. Thanks to what Heaven has wrought, Cas doesn't even trust his rebel angels--the ones brave enough to take on friggin' Raphael with him.

I mean, sure. He was always going to double-cross Crowley, but it didn't even cross his mind to divvy up the soul power with Balthazar or his rebel angels. That's because he's paranoid of them turning on him.

And with what Heaven has thus far shown itself to be...why wouldn't he be?

(though if you wanna see ALL the art over the last year of this AU's growth, I'd suggest going there!! But this piece kinda will help explain it a bit!! Prepare for A LOT of rambling ~

Sooooooo; I've been into TAWoG since 2013 right around when Season 2 was getting new episodes, from the moment I started watching I absolutely fell in love with this show, fixing on it for about 2/3 years (2013-2015) and while I slowly fell out of the fixation, the show never truly left me, ya know? It saved me as a child, helping me get through the roughest year of my life which was 2014.

As I got older, I had so many moments where I'd go back to it (I remember it being like every other year; 2018, 2020, ect.) but then the end of 2022 I was spiraling really bad and just not doing well, and TAWoG came back into my life again but this time it STUCK. (Saving me, yet again).

This time around I made next gens; Caspian and Pearl. Made on November 10th, 2022. (I remember it being 6 AM too lol) This piece for this post was drawn one year later; November 10th, 2023. ^^

Cas being a Penball child and Pearl being the adopted daughter of Darwin. When I first got back into the show I knew I wanted next gens but I hadn't delved into the show, wasn't really caught up but as a kid "the Shell" episode made me pretty excited so I was like "what's an easy gumball ship? oh yeah, Penball!" so that's how Cas happened. Pearl happened because I knew I wanted a "pet come sentient" companion for Cas and I LOVE axolotls so I knew it was perfect.

(Mind you, I stopped watching mid season 3 and only watched again when I heard about Darwin's origins episodes!! (He was my fav as a kid and I remember hoping for an origin episode for him so when that was announced I was so excited). As you'll see, I wasn't really planning much, I was just like "I love this show, I want next gens!" I had no idea a whole AU was gonna come out of it LMAO. I didn't think too hard about what I was doing. So; I had seen some of season 3 but I didn't know about the whole Rob arc or really anything about him. (I had seen "the pony" episode when it came out because it's season 2 but I was a kid and didn't pay attention to the one time he had his first 'role' ya know?)

ANYWAY, I was looking into this "Rob" character, saw people making "void Gumball" designs / GumRob next gens and I have no idea why but I was like "I want one" and that's what led to Zip's creation. He was made just 3 days later on November 13th, 2022 and if it weren't for him; this whole AU wouldn't have even started getting developed. See, I love Cas and Pearl but they were meant to be more "casual oc's" - I really didn't think I was going to keep using them or get as attached as I have. (honestly not understand my neurodivergence at the time either didn't help. if I had known that a hyperfixation could happen like this, I probably would've changed stuff but that's a tangent for another day.) Zip's story, as well as my AU started out COMPLETELY different than what it is now. It was dark/edgy, I knew nothing about Rob so I opted to make him the overarching villain and it just.. it was so bad. (Remember, I was at a low point so.. kinda makes sense the story was so.. yeah.) But as I started looking more and more into Rob I realized how wrong I was, like I could NOT have been more wrong, AND on top of that, looking more into the GumRob ship / watching their dynamic in the episodes... I kid you not; that ship grabbed me by the throat and has held me in a chokehold ever since. GumRob is genuinley my OTP and I cannot explain how much that ship means to me but, I'll ramble about them in another post. Overall; my AU started out differently than what it is now, but I'm happy that I changed it. It went from this dark, kinda edgy story to a lighter, fluffier (more romance-based) arc that plays HELLA into the cartoon-factor of the show. My AU is filled with dumb jokes like that, 4th wall breaks and just the silliness of the show - which I love. That's what I wanted and I've worked hard to get it there. (Yes my AU still devles into serious topics but I try to handle them carefully and still make it somewhat light since I play into the cartoon aspect, ya know?) Sorry for so much rambling, I just.. really love this show, my AU, my characters and I've worked SO hard on this AU (with help of my friends too) and I'm excited to talk more and more about it, without the fucking TEXT LIMIT ON INSTAGRAM. i can’t really speak for other people but whenever i think of ur art or see ur art on my tl i can only think of cas. like, i don’t think of u as ‘oh that one bg3 gortash x oc artist!’ to me ur the creator of casim! like i eat up every crumb of lore u offer of his SRSLY. i have truly never ever seen art like urs, what got me hooked to ur stuff in the first place was that portrait u did of cas with the bloody bhaal handprint, & Then i stumbled across the stuff with gortash. n listen, gortash is one of my favorites in the game, but (at least for me & imo) when u create an entirely new character & ship them with a canon one, that canon character kinda becomes ur own in a way. like the gortash you draw with cas is very in character, dont get me wrong, but at the same time he’s a little different from the game, & i like both gortash within gortcas And bg3 gortash. like i said, can’t really speak for anyone else, but ur art is so incredibly unique, and when i see it or think about it, i just think of you as an artist, not some rando bg3 fanartist i follow. ur art means a lot more than that to me, & probably a lot of ur other followers

"All Characters Are Equally Important" Is Usually A Lie

There is another media thing I kinda wanted to talk about for a while and recently I came across this discussion again and I was like: "You know what? Now is the time."

See, when there is a media thing with a ton of characters, especially in TV, the creators will often claim that "all characters are equally important" and also "all characters are fair game for dying and bad things happening to them". But, okay, let's be honest here. This is pretty much always a lie.

While I never liked GoT (or the books) because of all the rape happening, I kinda had to put in that GIF because it was one of those examples. Even as someone not actively engaging with the fandom I stood there as the Red Wedding happened and rolled my eyes so heavily. Because there also was the claim that "all characters are fair game and everyone can die". It was fairly obvious, that this was a lie.

Because GOT had a lot of characters, yes, but it was fairly obvious who were the main characters and who were the side characters. And as such it was fairly likely that the main characters would survive at least till close to the end of the show (and the books). They could claim all they wanted that this was not the case. A lot of people called it out, and guess what? The characters who all those people named as the "main characters" did in fact survive till the last two episodes.

And while I also never at all got sucked into the LOST fandom, I recently had a lot of fun watching the Billiam reviews of the show. And apparently it was happening there, too. Where it became fairly clear fairly soon, who were the actually main characters, and who... well, was more easy to write bout of the show.

The thing that got me there, is with all the stuff happening with RIOT and LoL right now, there is this claim going around with Arcane, too. Especially regarding season 2, that will not be released before later next year. And sure, I get that for RIOT it is a marketing strategy and stuff to hype up the new season. What I do not get is, how people will argue that this is actually totally the case.

Like, look, especially with Arcane gaining importance in terms of the actual canon of the LoL verse, it is fairly safe that all champions are gonna survive in one form or another. Like characters such as Mel and Sevika can die, sure. But Caitlyn, Vi, Jinx, Viktor, Jayce, Heimerdinger? They totally are going to live. And be it just in a way of "Sure, they died. But don't worry, they got better."

And it is okay. It is okay that in a story with a lot of characters are more important than other characters. That in fact is just good storytelling. Because if you really were treating the characters all equal, it would be harder for whoever reads or watches your thing to get invested into the characters and kinda get really into the story. Because the main characters are the gate for the audience to enter the world through.

And sure, everyone who is active in fandom will tell you about this random background character they personally are obsessing over. But in general, yeah. People will focus on the main characters, which is totally fair. Because... Just logistically speaking, if you really were making 10+ characters equally important (or at times even 20+), you would be so held up with giving them all enough background and enough development, that the main plot would get lost.

Believe me, even as someone who somehow ends up writing stories with at times up to 30 characters... Even there I usually have more like 5-7 main characters, whose decisions drive the plot - and whose point of view is going to be the dominant one.

Yeah, alright, I get the frustration when your favorite character ends up being one of the side characters, who just do not get written out that much - or get killed just to hammer home how dangerous an antagonist is. But... It's just how it is. And, I mean... canon is just a suggestion ;)

So, yeah. My point is: Yeah, no, Caitlyn isn't going to die. Nor is Jinx. Or any other champion from the game. Not for real. There might be a fake out death, but... they will survive.

ID2 Thoughts after todays chapter

Cas’ backstory lost me at the book betrayal but they’re still THEE love interest of all time to me. I do wonder though if the same writing team that worked on book 1 are also working on book 2 because.. Cas feels like a different character half the time which is a bummer. I don’t wanna get to the end of book 2 and end up feeling like it being a one off was a better choice when I was so stoked to see these characters again.

I do find everything they’re doing with Gabe super interesting though whereas in book one I found them a lot less interesting. After them overhearing the convo with Libby, Jade, and Aiden I think it’s super interesting that her first thought is to basically be like “if they can’t move on from Cas, I’ll be the new Cas.” Which can only end up hurting everyone involved in the long run. I’m sure it was mainly to get mc to feel better but I love a tragedy. I’m leaning into part of her having a little bit of an Olivia Rodrigo Obsessed moment and Cas doing the same all this time.

All that being said I still truly don’t give a single shit about Terry or the forest bureau because it feels VERY forced. Mc starting the fight with their mom just run out was weird. Lewyn not stepping in to steer Terry off the path of whatever happened to the envoy and then still making it MCs issue is weird too. I’m just 👀 this book is messy. We’re probably at the halfway mark right? And it feels like a lot of filler has happened to pad out chapters and the interesting or fun stuff is over so quickly.

It pisses me off to no end that Libby & co came down heavy on mc when they were kinda friends for a year bc mc began spending a lot more time with Gabe and Cas but are still friends with Gabe who, from what we know, ditched them for mc. Like if there’s anyone they should be more pissed at, it should be Gabe, right?

I feel like the book really shines with the newbie vampire plot line and the ley line powers. The forest bureau has a lot of potential because we I’d love to see what these modern day vampire hunters are like and what the threat level really is. I’d like to explore what a poly relationship between Mc Gabe and Cas would look like but I doubt we’re getting it at this point after today’s chapter. So instead I would like to explore the jealousy and heartache Gabe and Cas are going through and mc having a tough time deciding or having their mind set on someone while the other person pines depending on how you play it.

I say all this to say that I see the problem that choices has when it comes to a lot of their books nowadays. They don’t know which plot lines to cut and which to keep. There are too many plates spinning and one of them will get dropped when it could’ve just been scrapped up top.

Genuine questions I have about my dear Swedes, and I think you're the best with the headcanons about them.

• How were they recruited?

(I wondered about that.)

• What era are they from?

(They look old-fashioned for even the 60s, they seem to have come from a much older time considering the family photo and also the outfits and the "strangeness" they have with the 60s and America.)

MY FRIEND YOU CAME TO THE RIGHT PLACE for I am the keeper of the Elder Knowledge and the Mind-Vault of Fanon (aka I've been rotting about these guys since the ikea fam was live and kicking circa 2020 and haven't let go). I am TICKLED to finally be asked about them because they are My Guys and i love writing exorbitant amounts of information about them!!!! Especially their clothes!!! Needless to say I will not be brief, so strap in 😁

(PS Tumblr ate my first draft of this after hours of research and paragraphs of writing so I had to rewrite all of the content here from memory 🥲) (PPS I used this as an excuse to talk about their clothing for 3 hours. this is the most deranged I've been in ages ! )

First off: there is no canon information regarding either of your questions. So let's just put that out there. They are tragically underdeveloped for being potentially some of the most interesting characters on the show (or maybe i'm just biased because I prefer the Commission characters lol). Basically everything we know about them is based off inferences and vague canon implications, and everything aside from that is widely-accepted fanon that we discussed way back when + my own personal headcanons (which are basically canon to me). I might have to do some deep-diving into the tumblr archives of my old blog or my mutuals for the information I'll get into here, but all of it will be stuff I either came up with myself or bore witness to the research of & agree with.

1. How were they recruited?

Generally, the accepted theory is that the brothers were recruited young, likely after some sort of event which resulted in their first kill. From what I recall, several fandom authors (myself included) have incorporated this storyline into our own work, roughly following the same theme of capable woodsmen Axel & Otto protecting Oscar and killing someone as a result, hence inviting attention from Commission recruiters who trawl the timeline for skilled individuals.

Also, I believe it is fairly accepted within the fandom that the Commission seeks out and hires people who are down on their luck or in otherwise bad circumstances, then organizes them into employment statuses from there (office workers, hitmen, etc.). I tend to think Axel & Otto were recruited first, then Oscar was roped in later on, playing into my theory that they are triplets, just separated by large periods of time-travel.

2. What era are they from?

YIPPEEE you came to the right ! person ! because actually lowkey I kinda perpetuated the headcanon that the Swedes are Victorian-Edwardian back in the day (on a prev blog). I personally hc they were born ca. 1880-ish, with their “natural” timeline falling somewhere around 1901-1910 (Edwardian period), and picked things up from different decades along the way, as is the way of time-travel. However, I know others preferred the idea that they were from ca. 1930-1950, which is also fairy plausible.

Now, time for me to be insane:

I have a copious amount of proof that they are from the early 1900's ! based on their clothing + the photograph Axel carries. It’s also worth nothing that their clothing is visibly that of working class men, which makes it slightly more difficult to research (because the working class always gets the short end of the stick). I base most of my research & beliefs on cross-examining Edwardian photographs of workmen, as well as my own knowledge of historical fashion. I won't delve that much into their culture as Swedes and the fashion implications of that, since it honestly wasn't taken seriously enough in canon to be visible past Otto's haircut.

Proof in their regular clothing:

Trousers: Otto’s high-waisted trousers & suspenders are Edwardian, down to the very patterning. Oscar’s too, to a less obvious extent. It’s also worth noting that according to bts images, Axel also wears suspenders. His pants with the laces at the shins are baffling though...

Shirts: Oscar's turtleneck isn't not Edwardian; men have been wearing collared knit shirts like that as winter wear for a long time. Otto's green shirt, though it has those odd clasps, is somewhat reminiscent of arrow collar shirts worn in the Edwardian period. I have also found proof of three-button wool undershirts similar in style to Axel's henley, though these were more popular towards the 20's

Shoes: While Otto and Oscar's steel-toed boots weren't invented until the 1930's, Axel's boots are at least somewhat more reminiscent of those worn by workmen in the 10's. Though, the side zip and weird flap are… not.

Outerwear: Axel's blue vest is more akin to a double-breasted waistcoat, though it doesn't have lapels and the buttons are too large; it is... an outlier. Likewise, his canvas duster has a zipper and no lapels, and the pattern cut of it makes me think it's fairly modern, just like Oscar's canvas/corduroy jacket which is practically a Carhartt. Oscar's vest is baffling bc it looks different in every shot of it I analyze. Otto's trench coat is the oldest style. (Fun fact, the modern zipper was invented by a Swede in 1913)

Misc: The union suit was popularized in the 1860's (as women's wear, actually!), so Otto's wearing of it would be believable for the period. All their clothes are patched up, implying years of wear and tear.

Misc Pt 2; Weaponry: Though ofc I'm a gun girl, I have already spent 3 hours writing about clothes and cannot make myself research weird weapons. So if you're interested in their guns, PLEASE read this post by my old fandom pal!!! It's much a more intelligent and in-depth analysis than I can manage rn, and also discusses the context of weaponry within the Commission.

They're really a ragtag crew, which makes it hard to date any of their garments. Here's some things I've noted though:

Headwear: Newsboy caps (which are what Oscar and Axel are wearing) were at their peak around the late 1910s, especially with working class men. Otto's hat looks like it could be an oilskin fisherman's hat, which were popular in 1880s America, though his looks more like the later 1950's design of the hat. Additionally, workmen in the Edwardian period often wore neckerchiefs, not unlike what Oscar wears around his neck in the photo.

Shirts: Oscar appears to be wearing another knit sweater. Axel's blue shirt appears to me to have a band collar, which was a style popular in the 10's (from what I can tell one of Otto's shirts also has a band collar). Beneath that, his undershirt (likely linen) has a string closure, which was popular even earlier than the Victorian era

The Woman (mother? grandmother?): Historically, older women tended to wear headscarves/ head coverings. The style of her dress/smock/apron is hard to determine because of its concealment beneath her cardigan. She's got a sick rifle tho

Misc: Oscar's workman's gloves aren't inaccurate; leather gloves like that were worn in the Victorian era. So have leather belts. Like I said earlier, from what I can tell from my cursory search (after sifting thru dubious "Viking" hairstyles), Otto is sporting a fairly historically/culturally accurate he-man haircut from the Nordic area. Oscar's hair is the second-most historically relevant, as most men in the Victorian/Edwardian era had short, groomed hairstyles (though perhaps his is a little messier than usual). Axel is the outlier here with a modern slick-back.

Apple Pie Life

Warnings: Character "death", mention of previous character death (SPOILER!!!), blood, let me know if I missed any!

A/N: if you haven't watched Seasons 9-10 of Supernatural, proceed with caution cuz of spoilers.

Summary: Reader confesses fantasies of an "apple pie" life to Dean and he does something unexpected 👀.

I can see myself and Dean being thrown against the wall as we watched Sam, possessed by Gadreel, stalk over to Kevin. I scream at the top of my lungs for Gadreel to stop, but my pleas are not heard. Gadreel places Sam's hand on Kevin's forehead and a bright light shines from inside Kevin's body as he screams out in pain.

"No!" I shriek, my body immobilized out of fear and panic.

Kevin's screams cease as his lifeless body falls with a thud to the ground, his eyes burned out of his head. Gadreel places a small note with Kevin's name on his body and leaves. Tears stream down my face as I rush to Kevin's side just to feel the remaining warmth fade from his body.

"Y/n!"

I wake up to the sound of Dean calling my name and I'm instantly aware of the light sweat seeping through my pajamas. Turning my gaze over to Dean, I notice a look of worry is evident on his face as he searches mine for some sort of sign.

Kevin died about a week ago. While Dean, Cas, and I were looking for Sam and trying to find a way to cast out Gadreel has been the priority, which meant that none of us had time to grieve.

"Was it the same one, sweetheart?" Dean asks, his voice bringing me out of my thoughts which causes me to burst into tears.

He pulls me in to a knowing and comforting embrace, letting me cry into his chest.

"It's so hard, Dean. Why did it have to be him?" I sobbed.

Dean strokes my hair comfortingly, saying, "I know, Y/n. He didn't deserve it."

I pull back from him and look into his forest green eyes, "None of us deserve this pain, Dean."

"I don't know, sweetheart. If it weren't for me having Kevin stay with us, he would be alive right now," Dean replied.

I sit up, "Dean, this isn't your fault. It was Metatron's fault for telling Gadreel to kill him and Gadreel's fault for actually going through with it."

He sighs, putting his hands behind his head on his pillow, looking like he's deep in thought as he stares into the void of the dark motel room. His eyes look glossy as if tears are about to spill.

"Do you ever think what life would be like if we didn't hunt?" Dean asked, eyes searching my face for an answer.

I study his eyes, trying to figure out what's going on behind them as I answer, "I try not to so I don't get upset about the things that could have been, but sometimes I can't help it."

"What do you think about?" He asked.

I'm suddenly thankful for the darkness of the room as I can feel my face heat up. Dean and I have been dating for what feels like forever and the topic of the apple pie life fantasies have never come up. Needless to say, we've never discussed how much further we wanted to take our relationship.

"I think about having an apple pie life. You know, white picket fence, a nice house, a kid or two, maybe a dog," I answer.

"Ever think about getting married?" Dean inquires.

I smile, "Yeah. I do."

Dean flashes me a soft smile, the first real one since Kevin passed, and says, "I think about all that too. Especially getting married...to you."

I can feel my heart flutter in my chest, "I mean we could if we really wanted to get married, but since we have a lot of stuff going on with Sam, Metatron, and Abbadon, we kinda got our hands full."

"Yeah, you're right," Dean agrees, sitting up and lifting himself off the bed, turning on his bedside lamp.

I somewhat think I've upset him until I see him searching through his bag and coming around to my side of the bed.

"I guess I have a confession to make," Dean states, fiddling with the small object in his hands, "I've held onto this for so long and everytime I've seen this in my bag it has reminded me to keep going. To keep fighting so we can end all of this and I'll actually live to be with you forever, so..."

He kneels down on one knee in front of me, holding out what I can now see as a ring and instantly my eyes are filled with tears, "Dean..."

"Y/n L/n, will you marry me?" Dean asked, his eyes hopeful and his hands presenting the ring.

I nod my head frantically, "Yes! Of course I'll marry you."

Dean grins, sliding the ring on my finger and stands up, pulling me into an embrace and kissing me.

"After all of this, I swear to you that we'll have our apple pie life," Dean promises.

I smile, "Just gotta live through it first."

He smiles back at me and kisses me again.

It's been a long and difficult road when we've finally reached the final battle with Metatron. Abbadon is finally dead, since Dean now bears the Mark of Cain and we are in possession of the First Blade, and Sam is back to normal.

Fire burns around the homeless encampment and smoke filters into my lungs as I see Sam and Dean. Dean looks bloodied and bruised as he rests against a pile of something I can't quite make out and Sam is assisting him with balance.

My gut immediately tells me something is wrong as I approach them and when I get closer, I notice that he's bleeding profusely from his abdomen.

"Hey sweetheart," Dean greets, his eyes fighting to stay awake.

"Dean you're gonna be okay, there's gotta be some spell or something to heal you," Sam says, frantically.

"Baby, come on fight," I plead, "you gotta stay alive for me."

"I love you," he replies, his eyes closing and his last breath leaves his lungs.

"Dean!" I cry. "No, no, no, please baby wake up."

And just like that Dean and my future with him was gone...

Makoto: precious, reminds me of Sora, cant help but love him, very much would not survive without a little help from his friends (this is a compliment think it's a huge part of his character). Like him more after the anime. Hajimes little-big brother.

Kyoko: never been a huge fan of Reserved Fancy Clever girl type, but I think she won me over a bit more in the anime? Like, im glad she lived.... but I think her death would have been very in-character and character building at the same time.

Aoi: my fuckingfhfh GIRL I love her I'm biased as fuck. Did she ever use her talent much? No. Did she like, do a whole lot? I dont think so. But do I adore her?? Yeah I do. Wlw girl and also her "oooh!!" offended soundbyte is so cute also she was ready to take everyone down for the girl she loved that is so peak wlw shes Got It. Didnt she hit Byakuya?? Go girl.

Yasuhiro: stupid idiot man that I nonetheless enjoy. His design is the best of the survivors (not from any standpoint but my own as I simply really like the way he looks, clothes n all), fun shapes, gives good idea of character) . Most fun/gimmicky talent that was underutilised. Someone give him the connection he craves and like a hamburger

Toko: Not a huge fan tbh. Voice acting was rly good but she makes me uncomfortable (this is a me thing, I'm just super not comfy with any master-servant sexy thing).

Syo: More fun but most of what I remember from watching the playthrough is 'that's not how DID works.....' I think Syo and Toko both get way more development in that other game tho this is just what I remember. Also never been a fan of the whole, serial killer thing, it's not cool to me I dont like it.

Byakuya: apparently he got redeemed a little but I only remember fuckinggggg hating his character lmao. Again this was a few years ago and I was much less invested than I am now! But, rich tall asshole boy who just kinda snidely says things?? noooooo taste my blade.

supernatural s11e23 alpha and omega (w. andrew dabb)

so i've often complained about how dean and cas's relationship is talked about a lot more than seen onscreen (we're best friends! ok when?) but this part of this season has been a lot more of dean showing how cas is high priority to him. it feels a little out of nowhere to me i guess, because i never got whatever vibes they were trying to establish (i didn't come into the show with any sort of bias other than i knew destiel was The Thing and got blindsided by wincest feelings out the wazoo). anyway, i just try to accept that the show is gonna try to sell me on dean and cas being close, and try not to bitch (too much) about not getting it. clearly failed that brief today

oh, i thought lucifer bailed because he thought amara was gonna off him via cas, apparently it was amara who yoinked him out

LOL chuck clinging onto sam is really cracking me up. he looks so small and sam looks like he doesn't even notice there's a person hanging off him

and i'd offer that he's the best friend they've ever had because he's been semi-indestructible and resurrected all the times he has died when their friends pretty much never get that kind of service.

i try to really be fairly neutral when watching and writing these up, i obviously have some bias towards sam and dean as a unit because the show sold me hard on it from the get-go. but i think the lack of relationship established to me, and the very large presence cas and destiel has within fandom and even just the outsider perception of spn based on that large fandom presence - well. stuff like this, i just don't like it. it doesn't feel true to me and it kinda sorta pisses me off. and it pisses me off that part of my feelings about the character are based on some dumb kneejerk reaction to the fandom stuff. and it's perplexing.

the previous show i was into was teen wolf. stiles/derek is obviously the prevailing ship there - and there's almost nothing in canon between them. really working with crumbs. the ship that is much smaller but i can totally vibe with is scott/stiles. but i happily read all sorts of sterek fic too and it never bothered me like this does. so i'm reminding myself that it's not that it's a ship i think is more fanon based than canon that is the problem. or even that it's the popular ship. i think it's an amalgamation of the weird mismatch for me in the show, the fanon-sold-as-canon meta i see sometimes (which i avoid meta in general now) and (honestly) the virulent hate directed towards wincest shippers that i'd stumble into when just browsing the spn tag. anyway. (maybe if i keep explaining, someone will understand!!)

What’s your favorite Sims death? Sims 2 ... honestly not sure. Maybe Cowplant? Sims 2 cowplants are the superior cowplants.

For Sims 3 it's definitely the jellybean bush from Supernatural. I love the ghost colour, its silly, it reflects how i feel about jelly beans 10/10 no notes.

Sims 4 i wanna say Spellcaster Overload? Splosions!

Alpha CC or Maxis Match?

Maxis adjacent cartoony is generally what i gravitate towards, though especially for Edona's Glade, I'll just grab whatever I like.

Do you cheat your sims weight? Kinda? Sometimes? Usually when it changes in a way I don't think it should, which is mostly in sims 4. Sims 4 metabolism is whack and i really don't think it should be like that.

Favorite Mod? I am bad at picking favourites, especially since it totally depends on what i want to be doing and such. And then of course there is the mods that make the games playable, like NRaas and stuff. I do love things that add more craftables and foods and such for all the games, so that's like, a whole category?

First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack? For sims 1 it was Superstar, Sims 2 the first one I owned was Free Time, Sims 3 I got World Adventures asap and with Sims 4 I grabbed Get To Work first.

Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing? aLIVE. it's like a livestream or a tv show. it's live!

Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? I don't really have a fave for sims 2 rn, because my fave (Cattie Peach) is born in game. Though I do love her made in CAS mom Elena.

For sims 3 it's gotta be Varuna, really proud of how she turned out.

And for Sims 4, I guess I am the most attached to Jewel? Her or one of my TTRPG characters i made to have a way of visualising how i think they should look.

Have you made a simself? Nope! I think I tried once, but i can't get it right and I really don't see the point for me.

Which is your favorite EA hair color? Sims 2 I mod the EA hair colours away, so does not apply. I like the soft blonde in Sims 3, and i love both the blue and green in Sims 4!

Favorite EA hair? Again, don't use em in Sims 2. I do like that one Island Paradise Waterfall Braid for Sims 3, and plenty of others, but that one i actually remember. For Sims 4, there is so many of them, I have lost track. There is plenty I like! Maybe the twin braids from Snowy Escape?

Favorite life stage? Really vibin with the teens in Edona's Glade right now. But that's because of the characters, not because of the lifestage I think. Generally there is the most to do with YA/A sims in all the games, so really, it's not that they are my fave, it's just that there is the most content to play with.

Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay? Gameplay all the way baybeeeee

Are you a CC creator? Kinda? I've got a few mods I've shared, and i used to do a lot of recolours for sims 4. Like I don't consider myself one, but I have indeed created CC before.

Do you have any Simblr friends or a Sim Squad? Not really? Like I have people on here I like and interact with, but its not like... a friend group? I am very bad at reaching out to people, it's the anxiety about being annoying, so I mostly stick to myself.

Do you have any sims merch? Nope!

Do you have a YouTube for sims? I have a youtube, where I did a Sims 4 BaCC back in like 2016. I've unlisted those videos, but left the playlist up. But I am currently posting my Twitch VODs there. So it's not for sims, but there is some sims there.

How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing? Well the biggest change is I went fantasy medieval for sims 2. That and i've moved a little away from basic EAxis style sims? Also compared to my childhood there is more storylines and drama. And more longlasting saves.

Who’s your favorite CC creator? I don't have a favourite CC creator. Picking favourite people is weird so I refuse to.

How long have you had Simblr? This blog has been around since May 2013, and I think i started posting sims things on it within that year, so if you go by a definition of "A Simblr is a blog with sims things on it" then for over 10 years. I personally don't consider this a simblr. it's my personal tumblr, and it has a lot of sims stuff on it because thats what i feel like posting, ya know?

How do you edit your pictures? Generally I just slap some brightness and a lil bit of saturation over it and call it a day. Sometimes I don't do anything.

What expansion/ gamepack is your favorite?

For the sims 2, Open For Business is just... so good. So essential to how I play these days with Edona's Glade. Free Time also though. So those two in combination.

For Sims 3, I love World Adventures. I just love the tomb puzzles.

Sims 4 I am honestly not sure. Like a lot of them I am like "yes, i use this, it's alright", there isn't really a stand out one for me. I do quite enjoy the Milestones from Growing Together, and i think they did a pretty decent job with the supernatural focused gamepacks, but none of them are like "YES, THIS ONE". Might just be because sims 4 and how i want to play dont quite get along.

Performing Dean, the AV Club, and Jack as varsity MVP

In Ouroboros, SPN 14x14, Dean makes this adorable quip to Cas & Jack, who mostly aren't bothered by Dean's masculine posturing.

"Him. He's AV club."

And yet, barring a handful of sports references to Jayhawks and The Cubs, Dean shows only a mild interest in sports, usually in passing or when he's posturing to Kevin Tran. He doesn't position himself into sports metaphors nearly as much as he does with his little movie references.

Fact is, he's a music, media, literature, and dance kinda guy. I'd even go so far as to say Dean is the ONLY character who could keep up with the "story mega-nerd," Metatron.

(Metatraon is perhaps coded as THE most AV Club guy ever in the history of Supernatural, even compared to Charlie. His whole arc is an extended Revenge of the Nerd arc.)

Anyway, this is Dean's usual shtick: transference. Dean is the AV Club kid at heart:

Dean bequeaths these interests to Jack, who gets most of his socializing through music and media. It's heavily implied later in the series that (outside of Cas), Jack is Dean's media buddy.

Jack is heavily into Dean's music (Jack's fave artist is "The Who"), and in SPN 14x16 Don't Go Into the Woods, Jack laments that he's watched Lost Boys (with Dean) at least thirty-six times.

But what of Cas & sports metaphors?

Unlike Dean, Cas instinctually positions himself (and his skills) into sports metaphors, as a player.

In fact, there is some evidence that the rules and aggression inherent to sports would be embraced by battalion angels. In 12x10 Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets, we see the angel Benjamin obsessively embracing the fighting game simulation in the video arcade.

Sports satisfy mock war games, and war is what angels do.

So, canonically we see Cas relate himself to tactical moves like Hail Mary (orig. football quarterback throwing a long, powerful pass) and also as the aggressive point guard in basketball, the "ball handler."

Cas simply doesn’t care about AV Club barbs or using female code names because he’s not threatened. Of note, Sam isn’t threatened either. In fact, if pressed, Sam views getting worked up about that kinda stuff as overcompensating.

And Cas? Cas's shame comes not from human gender but from the angel-human divide. That's where his complex seems to lie. "Female" is to men as "human" is to angels, perhaps.

Another funny thing to note is that Cas overexplains the sports terms to Dean here. As the audience, we know that Dean knows what these common phrases mean, so it's funny.

But consider this.

Because Cas is intimately familiar with Dean’s TV watching habits, he knows that sports and true crime do not feature much. And thus, he gives a thorough explanation of the sports thing to Dean, just to be on the safe side. Just in case Dean doesn't know. Lol. Thanks, Cas.

Jokes aside, when Cas thinks of sports, he's views himself as an aggressive type of player.

Metatron as the Ultra-nerd

Metatron's got a bone to pick with Cas. He hates him as much as he hero worships him. Metatron is the odd duck to the rest of the angels. Even when Metatron "powers up," the other angels call him a nerd and choose "the popular guy," Cas. (Because Cas has always been "the angel's angel" among the soldier class, even when he epically fucks up.)

TYRUS: I like being an independent operator. And I hear you're losing. And I hate your face. METATRON: Well, I could get a new face. TYRUS: You'd still be you -- a nerd trying to be one of the popular kids. Mnh-mnh. METATRON: Okay. Time for the hard sell. TYRUS: Please. You knife me, and all my guys will go running to Castiel.

And Metatron is jealous as fuck. Transparently so.

Frequently in season 9, Metatron casts Castiel and Gadreel as the dumb soldier-jocks to his lovable lit-nerd. They’re brain-damaged puppies that girls go gaga over for no good reason, while he, Metatron, is The Nice Guy who’s totally gonna get the Good High-Paying Job and stick it to the jocks and the hot cheerleaders that disrespected him. He’s got a superior brain and he plays 3D chess and—

And Jack? What can I really say? Jack is a loveable doof, just like Cas. But Jack, symbolically and visually?

Jack's heavy burden is indeed due to his great power, and also because he's expected to live up to the angel of the house (Cas) immediately upon being born.

Everyone expects him to be as good as Cas immediately:

From 13x01 Lost and Found:

JACK: "My mother, she said Castiel, he would keep me safe. She said the world was a dangerous place. That’s─that’s why I couldn’t be a baby or a child. That’s why I had to grow up fast. That’s why I chose him to be my father.”

And 13x04 The Big Empty, Dean is keeping Jack at arms' length, ixnaying the possibility of getting too close to him:

DEAN: Look, you wanted the kid here, he’s here. All right? But I’m not gonna hold his hand and tuck him in at night. Pass. I’m not gonna be his mother, and neither are you. 

A consistent theme in the Psalms is that the father is our refuge. He is our shield (Cas) and our shelter. He protects us from harm. Like a fireplace, he is the sentry that smites the enemy and wraps us up in winds of protection.

There’s a terrible assumption in the modern world that if fathers aren’t there to temper the worst in our boys, they’ll grow up to be evil. Undisciplined, loose cannons.

Violent.

(That's why it's such a problem that Cas is missing.)

Within this dark viewpoint lies a fear that the violent boys will will turn on the weaker (in this case, human) members of the household as they grow into even more violent young men. At worst, they grow into adulthood and overpower the aging father. (SEE: The gas station scene at the end of season 13, where Jack throws Cas and moves to choke out the clerk in a fit of rage.) Then, they overpower everything else and unleash their violence outward, to society.

What’s the common history in the mass murderer, the school shooter, the serial killer? First, they kill their mothers. Oh Mary…Mary, Mary...

After he grows to love him, Dean doesn't want to view Jack as Varsity. It's scary.

Due to Jack's superior strength, it's much more comfortable to position Jack as Loveable-Weirdo-Nerd.

There’s a reason Jack is parented very, very differently from everyone else in the series, and it reflects modern American anxieties related to boyhood. (Compare to Alex, Claire, or even Dark Kaia. Daughters.)

There's so much tension. This tension is very species- and power-dynamic specific. Because while Sam & Dean can be earthly fathers, they cannot be cosmic ones. That vacuum would only be filled either by Castiel...or Lucifer. :(

Anyway, Jack is Varsity. He’s already lettered as a child-soldier during his stint on Michael's Apocalypse!World. When he loses his grace, Jack becomes very tense and agitated. He misses the competence, the power. He's used to being precocious. In the 14x01 script, he longs for the days of being able to kill 300 demons at once. Later, Sam has to remind him that he himself didn't even kill a demon until well into his 20s.

But even weak, Jack is persistent and driven. Maybe a wee bit obsessive. Overall, he pretty low fear and recklessly leaps into the fray to prove himself. It's no wonder that Harper Sayles Daphne-coded relatively quickly decides to replace Vance with Jack, who she views as virile, even without his powers! While depowered in season 14's Ouroboros, Jack kills Noah the Gorgon, a demigod.

So, funny thing: I never wanted to read or watch Bleach, still don’t want to (for no particular reason), but thanks to all the reels of Bleach’s fights in the TYBW, that are more than beautifull by the way, I have become curious about some stuff and I know almost nothing about it, have no ideia what happened or what is going on, that is why I came to the Bleach specialist (that is you by the way). So, I know that Unohana fights the other kenpachi (is his name Zaraki?) and oh my God I’m really loving to hear “Bankai” lately, but like, she let’s herself get killed? Because i read that she killed and healed him a lot of times during the fight, and that she only wanted to unlock all his powers, so I want to know who is stronger, and is she really dead? Oh, and didn’t you post a manga panel where she talked to Aizen in his prison or something? The other thing for now must be a very popular question, does Ichigo love Rukia? Hi baby!! I'm flattered to be called a specialist! But I'm just a simp for Kubo's writing! 🙊 So, let me tell you about it then! (I will explain under the cut cause it is very long and heavily spoilery) ⬇⬇

About Unohana, yes. She is sadly gone. Unohana happened to be the first Kenpachi (the first shinigami to uphold such title. These individuals are not only hella strong but also reckless. Mercenary people who live for the joy of the battle. They aren't exactly moved by a sense of justice or protecting others, but only because they are bloodthirsty for violence). Back then, Unohana used to be a different type of captain (souls live for very veeeery long times, for example Unohana was as old as the world itself) than what the current pretend to act like. So back then she was TIRED of fighting with people who weren't as strong as her and neither had that same "ambition". However, one of those days, a kid -a very violent, kinda savage kid- appeared and to shorten things up they fought sharing the joy for battle... but, thing is, Zaraki somehow suppressed his own strenght so that Unohana would continue to be his opponent forever, because she was the only one able to satisfy that "violence" hunger. So, when the time was right, during TYBW where shit was going down and Quincies were killing everybody, Shunsui (the man that's now the general commander) allowed Unohana to fight Zaraki one more time to make him unleash such power that he had been holding back. Unohana accepted, and killed and healed him enough times for Zaraki to stop holding back. Because there can only be one Kenpachi upholding the title she got killed, and she died with a smile cause her purpose was fullfiled.

Unohana does not speak to Aizen while he is imprisoned. However they do fight in the same place where Aizen is sealed; the Muken (or infinite prison) cause it is literally an infinite void where they can fight with no problem. Now, maybe you are confusing either Shunsui freeing Aizen to help them fight the quincies during the invasion OR a previous Kenpachi (imprisoned as well, called Azashiro Kenpachi) who does speak to Aizen in one of the novels (but there isn't any panel for that).

About Ichigo and Rukia ➡ they do love each other but like friends! they do have a VERY strong connection, but that's it. There are several reasons why people ship them (and it's totally ok! I would have love to see them as a couple in the end if that was what Kubo wanted). 1. Pierrot (the studio that animates Bleach) had some kind of kink for them being a couple: MANGA DOES NOT STATE IT. In fact they changed and added many things in order to make them look like they were ending together. 2. Pierrot again: HATED Orihime making her to look "stupid" and Ichigo to be a lot less interested in her, which is the total opposite.

In the end, the official couples are Rukia married to Renji with a daughter called Ichika who is also a Shinigami and a total badass who seems to be in love with Ichigo's son. And Ichigo married to Orihime with a beautiful son called Kazui (also a shinigami)

(there is yet another reason why a human like ichigo (even if he is also a shinigami a quincy and bla bla) can't be married to a soul like Rukia: souls live almost eternally (if not killed/get mortally ill) and get older within a very different range of time than humans. (Time passes differently in the Soul Society -where shinigami and souls- live). Ichigo needs to leave his body behind to be able to use his "soul body", how could his human body survive without someone living inside of it? it could be considered like someone in vegetative state, his body would need to be treated in a hospital. Plus, you could say "ok he could khs, right?" yes, but that probably wouldn't sent you to Soul Society but to Hell so there would be no way.

My fave Bleach characters ➡ besides my lovely Byakuya I would say I love most of them but I have a special place in my heart for Ishida Uryuu, Ulquiorra (by far the best character ever written in the history of manga to me) Aizen (the god) and Orihime Inoue 💖🙆‍♀️
