So, the first thing we're having done is replacing the fuse box because we want to replace the AC and when the AC guy looked at the fuse box he went D: I'm just.... going to call an electrician to come look at this and make sure it's safe, and then the electrician came and looked at it and went "well... I've seen worse" but in that tone that says he definitely HAS seen worse, and then he looked at the ceiling and goes "is that... knob and tube wiring."
ANYWAY.
The electrician came back today and installed all the stuff and they were outside taking a break before wrapping up and these boys come running to tell me "one of your birds got out!!"
Now me, I'm like, one of three things has happened. #1-A bird has actually turned incorporeal and escaped my pens (I can only imagine maybe they broke the netting but our netting should be able to take it), #2 these boys got fooled by the way Pen 3's flight pen is set up and only THOUGHT a bird got out, or #3 there is a bird out and it is Not Mine. Or possibly it's a turkey. We have wild turkeys and there's a hen that's lost her flock and has been wandering around lately.
So I go out and I don't see a bird out so I'm thinking it must be #2 because they're walking out by Pen 3. I account for the birds in pen 1, and I start walking toward them and the apprentice goes I SEE HIM and points into the woods. Well, I can see Indie and the girls in pen 3, so I'm thinking okay, either it's #1 and polaris busted the new netting, or it's #3, but my luck it's probably #1. And then I see a young boy who is NOT my bird emerge from the brush.
And it's like Ah. Yes that's not my bird don't worry about it.
We head in, they wrap up, I close the barn pen birds into the barn and in their pen, I set out food and water for him. Just in case. I also closed pen 1 birds into just Pen 2 for now, and opened pen 1's door and put out some scratch where he'd be able to see it. I don't think he'll go in right away, but he hung around for a good while before walking, and it's just my birds and Pete's that are very nearby. Since he's still a baby, just a little 2yo boy, he's going to want to stay where there are other peafowl, and pete doesn't have boys to call him back.
We'll see if he sticks around, and if he'll come in to the pen. Pete said he wouldn't even come closer than his back field, not even to his peafowl, but he hopped up on the barn roof and watched me talk to my birds for a while, so I hope he'll decide it's safe here.

Best Lost Boy
Tumblr media
Amazing art by @chaosgremlin95 and @silly-lil-fool once again. Special thank you to SLF for drawing Old Boy on request.
Tabs, is the Tootles seen in the Neverland Chronicles, belonging to @chaosgremlin95, and Old Boy (also known as Pathetic Old Boy) is the grown up version of Slightly Soiled seen in So Much Quieter, belonging to me/@thecringefailintherye/@autisticslightlyposting.
In the server, Corporal Nibs, owned by @/thecringefailintherye/autisticslightlyposting came 3rd, and S2Trappy, owned by @/silly-lil-fool came 4th, I will not disclose Tabs and Old Boy's placements as to not sway public bias.
Good luck!
PROPAGANDA:

It's been a while since Tooty has been seen in Banjo Kazooie. I wonder if she's okay? This is just a sketch for now but maybe I'll finish rendering it, Though I'm starting to get quite the pile up of unfinished sketches here 😂

@toddtootles said: “I got my rep as the strong, silent type to think about”
“Sure, but…It’s still okay to talk about your feelings sometimes, y’know.” Big words from someone who only genuinely expressed his own true thoughts and feelings through music—in day-to-day conversations Slightly always felt like he was performing a character of someone who had it all more together than he did. Someone cleverer and more sure of himself. He supposed it only made sense that everyone else was pretending too; they were all just imposters, playing the roles that they had either been assigned or carved out for themselves over time. Tootles was the “strong, silent type,” so he had to deal with everyone else’s problems, but didn’t get to complain about anything or express his own feelings? That was totally unfair. Life’s not fair, yada yada, but even knowing that, Slightly could wish for better for his loved ones.
"How long have you been holding onto this?" he asked. Tootles was always so selfless, it had been hard to realize he also struggled sometimes. Now that he knew, Sly wondered how much else he missed. He probably knew Cubby’s soul the best of all his brothers, from the art they’d created together, followed by Michael and the twins. Tootles, Wendy, John and Nibs were almost another category entirely, as the older siblings who he wasn’t supposed to have to worry about or be protective over. Maybe he should check in with them all more often.

@toddtootles said: “I know I'm not the person you want, but I'm here.”
It was five minutes to midnight and Peter was still standing with Wendy like he had been most of the night, the focus of his attention making it clear who he intended to kiss when the clock struck twelve. Tink was doing a very poor job at trying to look unbothered by this. And Tootles was, if not the first to notice, the first and only to actually do anything about it, coming to Tink’s side as he usually did when she was in a mood and needed cheering up. She smiled up at him, not a full bright smile, but not a forced one either.
“I’m glad you’re here.” There was no need to dissect what he’d said about not being the person she wanted; she wouldn’t be surprised if Peter was the only one who couldn’t tell, so she wasn’t going to ask Am I that obvious? She would just be happy that she wasn’t left alone in a corner at midnight, thanks to Tootles. She raised her champagne glass in a silent toast. They'd all been toasting all night, sharing their best stories of 2023, their hopes and resolutions for 2024, and Tink was honestly all toasted out. Pretty much everything had already been said. "Ready for the new year," she said simply.

Tootles, the peacock that just turned up at my house last summer and wanted into my peafowl pens with my birds! He is still living with my neighbor, Pete(r Pan!), while I still have Wendy, the hen that also just showed up at someone's else's house.

@toddtootles said “I didn’t think anyone noticed me.”
That was honestly heartbreaking, albeit expected. The same way Nibs was perhaps the only one in the group who tended to sense that Tootles actually needed attention beyond the support he was expected to provide everyone else as the eldest brother—Nibs also realized he was the only one who saw this. He generally tried his best to accommodate for that, including Tootles as much as possible when he was in danger of being left out, but he knew there were times he could do better about it. For instance, Tootles still ended up the designated driver nine times out of ten because Nibs couldn’t resist joining the festivities and Tootles was so good at self-effacing that it was easy to convince oneself, when you were really in a mind to enjoy yourself, that he was truly just as content to play Dad. Was it worse that the others didn’t notice at all, or that Nibs did notice and still didn’t do enough to make up for it? “Of course, man,” he said, rubbing Tootles’ head with affection and unspoken apology. “You do so much for all of us…You’re the glue that holds us together." It was an unhelpful and ironic truth about being the underappreciated caretaker of a family, but Nibs said it out anyway, "Even if people don’t actively notice, they’d notice if you stopped.”

Starter for @tate-polecat
Tina was being uncharacteristically quiet. She was perched atop Tootle’s counter, deliberately taking her time and making sure she ate every last crumb of her sandwich. It was rude to talk with your mouthful, don’t you know? Tina, being Tina, thought she was being sly not saying anything. Tootles wouldn’t notice anything was off if she didn’t act like something was off, right?
Her legs swung, her eyes averted, the sandwich barely shrinking, Tina nodded along to whatever it was that Tootles had been telling her. Okay, so she wasn’t listening... which posed a problem when Tootles turned a ‘look’ in her direction. “Why’re you looking at me like that?” Tina asked, now stuffing as much sandwich in her mouth as possible.
