Used in folk medicine to treat heart conditions (such as low or high blood pressure). As flower essence, Hawthorn helps open the heart to giving and receiving love, and can help in healing heartache.
But Hawthorn is also associated with Death and the spirit world.
To quote Corinne Boyer: «Solitary (Haw)thorns were not only associated with Faerie spirits and ingress, but also with the land of the deceased, the connection with these two worlds being one and the same in many cases. Sometimes a Hawthorn was planted in the ground where a death had occurred […] and were said to have sprung up from the scattering of the dead’s ashes or to grow from a spot where a coffin had been rested.»

You don't need to be a part of Mastodon or the Fediverse to check it out (but you should think about it).

How to be visibly invisible.
We get asked quite often how do to perform certain tasks. The truth of the matter is that while sometimes things go perfectly well, inevitably sometimes things go perfectly wrong. The real lesson in these things is to use that experience to make the likelihood of the next time more likely to succeed.
Can all things always go to plan on every occasion? Certainly, they can and do. But we also have knowledge that things go wrong very quickly, at any stage, for any reason. No matter what we have been tasked with, the constant is us. Anything else is a variable.
So we cater to driving the success by reducing the variables to a level we have the greatest control over or manipulating the odds in our favour. Usually we are looking for the weakest point in the chain to get an edge.
Most times when we travel we need control of the vehicle. This usually means use of the ‘Mk One Human Eyeball’ in the area to get a feel of what is a typical snapshot of that area at different times of the day. Time spent walking through, browsing the car parks, drop off zones, the road by the area of interest is all a clue as to what fits within the feel of normal for people who occupy that zone day in and day out. The devil is in the details, so have a phone with a headset and record yourself, write it down, remember the details or talk to some one who can take the note for you. Having a video camera stands out. But you can take selfies on a phone in some areas and blend in with normal, add food or coffee and get the pics that you want with the food. The Instagram generation has helped this type of craft become easier. You want to mesh and integrate with the environment enough to get the information while not standing out. Be the average person who is easily confused with every one else in the crowd.
Once you have a range of vehicle types, ages, colours and conditions it becomes easier to find a vehicle that meets the criteria. Are the cars all clean and polished? Again, the devil is in the details so observe everything in the notes, even if it doesn’t feel like its of any use right now, later on, that detail may sway the odds for you.
When you perform tasks like this is can be very easy when you start to behave differently as you try to bring all of the factors together. There is no rush, you belong, you can be here without issue so your body language needs to show that. Be relaxed, keep your head up and walk normally. Its a walk through, not a run through. Have a sip of water from the bottle in your bag on the bench and take a few more moments to familiarise yourself with the environment. See all you can see. Move with purpose and in a manner that makes you forgettable. Just another joe on the way to the store, or on a break from work, or returning from getting lunch. Did you bring accessories to the job to fit in? The sushi bar at the end of the street, a briefcase, or shopping bag from the big department store, or the gym bag?
You fit, you are one of the pieces of the puzzle that marks a snap shot of the day. You are tuned to the environment, your clothes, your bags, your hat, sunglasses and shoes are the product of the people you are moving with. Like Penguins, walking along to the beat of the march in unison. Except you are different.

Rules to remember when starting a new job, venture, education, etc.
Sometimes there are ways to skip steps. Find out if it's possible and if it is, do it. You never know. You might think the path from point A to point B is 5 years but sometimes there are ways to skip steps. Im university there were many times that I could have tested out of a class and skipped that class, since I already knew the material, but at the time I didn't know that. In life, there are many times when there are shortcuts or opportunities to skip ahead.
Network. Connections are important, or at the very least can be useful. You never know who will help you when you need it. Or if you're searching for a job, and someone you met happens to have an opening. Meet people, stay in contact, emphasize what you have in common, offer to help them in some way.
Establish a good reputation, make good first impressions, stay out of other people's power games, fights, drama. Don't participate or take sides. Avoid getting mixed in with other people's issues. A good reputation is the ultimate asset that will benefit you in every area of your life. Take it seriously, and make a point of having a good one.
If there is something you want to keep secret, up smokescreens in advance. If you leave a big glaring unknown, or avoid questions, people will notice. People will wonder. They will come up with their own stories. If there is something you do every Saturday but you don't want anyone to know what, come up with a smokescreen for the case that they notice that you are never available on Saturdays. If you just avoid the topic, they will wonder and come up with their own guesses and predictions. Don't let them. Swoop in, give a believable smokescreen, have it well rehearsed. Make sure the smokescreen is always the same, no matter who asks. Be consistent.

I was looking for sewing patterns on marginalia when I came across this guy's blog post where he shares a "new and interesting" stitch pattern. He starts the entry with a hand-drawn diagram of a running stitch--how he was taught to sew fabric together by his mother. He bemoans the resulting appearance of a dashed line instead of a continuous line.
While replacing the soles on a pair of shoes, our hero was delighted to find a new way of stitching that results in a strong, solid line. He diagrams this wonderful discovery, blowing our minds with.....the backstitch

right now, if tradecraft goes the way I originally conceptualized it, I foresee there being problems generating tension in the final act. the main characters (let's call them asset 1 & asset 2 for now) will go through so much crazy shit that the average person could reliably expect them to survive just about anything by the end.
I was hesitant to add very many reoccurring characters at first because I want the story to follow more of an episodic structure, and it's hard to justify adding side characters when the average security guard in this setting winds up getting tossed into some bushes. likely after witnessing one of our beloved spies faceplant while narrowly avoiding shredding their legs on some concertina wire.
but now I'm thinking it would be more of a benefit to actually have some guys stick around for the reader to get to know (and potentially become lategame narrative fodder..)
