when did we all decide to not make silly content for bluedam just for the fun of it? Just Pretend (BEOMGYU) CH5 - Favorite Color

"So, do you want to start on chapter five and I'll do chapter six?"

Me and Beomgyu sit alone in a corner of the library. It's fairly quiet where we're sitting, a snug corner filled with books.

"Yeah, then we'll start on the slideshow?"

"Sounds good!" He says.

We both open our textbooks and begin reading. It's silent, but a soft silence. The kind that's easy to fall into, forgetting how long it's been since someone spoke.

It's hard to think that someone who I'd only watched from afar is now my boyfriend. Even harder to remember it's only pretend.

However, I'm still proud of myself. All this time I've spent, closed-off, not connecting with anyone around me. Look at me now. I have a friend. And I think it might last this time. Even if I never tell him how I feel, having him here is enough.

I think back to what he said at prom: "I don't know if they'd like me if they really knew me." I wonder if no one's ever tried to get to know him. He has friends, but maybe he's never felt like those friends got to know the real him. Maybe he never let them. Maybe he's scared. Maybe I am too.

"Hey, Beomgyu," I start.

"Yeah?"

"What's your favorite color?"

He looks up from the textbook.

"Why do you ask that?" He questions.

"Just curious"

"Hmm" he pauses in thought, "pink"

I gasp, "pink? Really?"

"What's wrong with liking pink?" He grins.

"Nothing, it just surprised me. You only ever wear black"

I turn back to my book. It's true, he's always in dark colors. I figured that's what he liked, but apparently not. Such a bright color for someone so reserved. Like he's always trying to mask something.

"What's yours?"

"My favorite color?" He nods. "Yellow!"

He lights up, "wow, I figured your favorite color would be blue or something. Yellow isn't a common favorite, is it?"

"Not common, no," I reply, "but I like it. It doesn't try to make itself palatable for others. I respect that"

"I never thought of it that way," he said.

All of a sudden, Beomgyu's group of friends is walking up to us. I recognize Yeonjun, but the rest? I'm not sure.

"How's it going, you two?" Yeonjun asks.

I stay quiet. Beomgyu answers, "it's going well. What about you?"

"We haven't started yet," Soobin says.

They sit by us and we try to get back to our project. Their group is chattering on and on. Beomgyu lifts his head occasionally, but he mainly continues reading his chapter. Something Yeonjun says catches my attention:

"So she said one of her friends actually has a crush on Beomgyu"

Huening Kai jumps, "but he's dating Y/N?!"

"Well, they're not really dating, right?" Yeonjun turns to me.

My thoughts are racing, I guess there's nothing stopping Beomgyu from dating someone. Is it stupid to feel like we have something even though we only went to prom together?

"No, we aren't" I mutter.

"What do you think then, Beomgyu? Wanna give her a chance?"

I look to Beomgyu, but his smile has faded.

"Wether me and Y/N are actually dating or not, the rest of the school thinks we are. So, no. I'm not interested"

"I'm sure the school is not that invested," Taehyun states, "you can go on a date with someone else if you want"

"I'm not interested" Beomgyu repeats.

"Why not? Please, just give her a chance! What am I supposed to tell Minji, her friend will be so upset" Yeonjun insists.

"I've got a lot going on right now, I don't have time for something like that"

Soobin spoke, "like what?"

Beomgyu shuts the book closed, "I have a ton of schoolwork. No time for a girlfriend"

"That didn't stop you from going to prom with Y/N"

"That's different"

"How is it different?" Yeonjun commands, "honestly, I'm starting to think that you and Y/N are actually dating with how you're overreacting"

"I'm not overreacting," Beomgyu groans, "I'm just not interested. Why can't I say that? I'm allowed to not want to date your friend"

"Fine" Yeonjun says.

It goes quiet. Everyone is now doing their work, or at least staring at their laptops pretending to. Beomgyu taps me on the shoulder.

"Wanna go work somewhere else?" He whispers. I nod.

We stand and leave the library without a word to his friends. Silently, I follow him past the classrooms and out the doors. We find an area with few students. Sitting down on a bench underneath a large oak tree, I speak.

"I'm sorry. The whole fake dating thing is turning into a problem, isn't it? I can break it off, if you want. I don't want you to be fighting with your friends because of me"

"No, they're always like that" he says, bringing his knees to his chest.

"Really? It seemed like it was getting kind of..." I hesitate, "aggressive"

"They just-, don't listen to me. And will try to persuade me into doing stuff for them, or questioning stuff like why I don't want a girlfriend"

"Haven't you told them about your dad?"

"No" he states, "they wouldn't listen. If they did, it's not like they'd get it. Not like you would"

It makes me happy that he trusts me, though it shouldn't. He's talking about his problems with his friends. I add, "I'm okay if you want to date that girl. If you're worrying about my feelings, don't"

"I don't want to date her," he clarifies, "I'm not interested in dating right now. Everything in my life is already a mess, I don't need more... more things to feel like I'm messing up"

"Well, we've been pretend dating for a few days now, and you haven't messed anything up yet!" I joke.

He laughs, "you're funny"

"Oh, I know, Beomgyu."

synopsis: when yn finds herself falling (more like thirsting) for the campus hottie, yeonjun, she turns to her friends for advice. one suggests that she fake date yeonjun’s best friend and the campus cutie, soobin. desperately, she agrees and begins her journey to make yeonjun jealous - and maybe even starts to catch feelings for soobin in the process.

“so, how have you guys been?” chaehyun asks as the four of you sit down at a table.

“great! how are you guys?” you responded.

“i’m good.” chaehyun smiles.

“yeah me too.” yeonjun adds. wow, this turned awkward really fast.

“um… what are you studying, chaehyun?” soobin asked, trying to kickstart a conversation.

“i’m studying psychology!” she smiled a little too widely.

“really? that’s cool!”

“thanks. what about you?”

“oh, i’m studying film.” soobin answered. as he glanced in your direction, he noticed how quiet you were as you stared boredly at the table. “um, yn is studying literature so we sometimes help each other with projects and stuff.”

as you continued with the conversation, you tried to talk to yeonjun, who was in front of you. he wasn’t really paying attention to you because he was looking at chaehyun, which made sense since they came together. you thought they were cute together, but also noticed how chae clung onto every word coming out of soobin’s mouth.

you thought maybe she was just interested in the topic, but no matter what they were talking about, she seemed so into it. looking at them, you couldn’t help but feel left out, and sad for yeonjun. because if they were really on a date, chaehyun didn’t seem to be super interested in him.

so instead, you just sat there, eating your ice cream, while staring at yeonjun who was staring at his “date”. eventually, you got tired of sitting there, having finished your ice cream ages ago. soobin and chae still in conversation, and yeonjun who was trying to contribute.

as chae finally looked beside her and began to talk to yeonjun, you took your chance. elbowing soobin, you began to whisper to him.

“can we leave now? I’ve finished my ice cream and we’ve been here like two hours.” you said with your eyelids drooping out of boredom.

“sure.” soobin smiled, bringing warmth to your heart. you quickly knocked yourself out of it though, because there was no way you could have a crush on him. “hey guys, um we gotta get going, but it was really nice to see you!”

“ok! bye soobin!” they both waved goodbye. soobin took your hand as you left the shop. he drove you back to your apartment and you stopped to talk at the door.

“well, today was… fun.”

“did you not enjoy it?” soobin asked confused.

“no! the ice cream was great it was just… you two were the only ones talking the whole time. especially chaehyun, she barely gave you a seecond to breathe.” you chuckled.

“yeah, i guess.” it’s awkward. again.

“um, anyway, i’ll talk to you later! we should plan our next date.”

“ok! bye yn!”

“bye!” you entered the building and walked into your apartment as fast as you could, jumping face first onto your bed.

Wonhyuk: E’last and &Team where promoting at the same time, so during breaks they began talking and found out they had a lot in common.

Kang Taehyun: Met during Nicholas’ i-land days, when txt went to the finale. They talked for a while after it finished and exchanged numbers.

Lee Jooyeon: Nicholas was asked during a Weverse live who would he want to be friends with and he said Jooyeon. A few days later, Jooyeon saw the clip on Twitter and dmed him. They’re pretty close now.

Just Pretend (BEOMGYU) CH1 - Promposal

"...huh?"

"I was wondering if you could pretend to be my date!"

Just Pretend -The Beginning-

I blend the blush outwards from my face. Reaching into a drawer, I open a similar color of pink lipstick and add just a bit to my lips. Glancing at myself in the mirror, I smile. A simple, natural look.

Then I notice my hair.

"Ugh! No matter how much I brush it out, it still looks all weird!" I run my fingers through it a few times before giving up.

I heft my bag onto my shoulders and walk out the door. As I walk to the bus stop, I contemplate my plans for the day. I had it all figured out. I was going to ask Beomgyu to prom.

Worry builds in my mind as I think about it. What if he says no? Or that he's already going with someone? What if he lies that he's going with someone in order to spare my feelings, when in reality he's not going at all?

I need a way to ask him without really asking him. Feel out wether he likes me or not before I make a move.

I ponder this as the bus rolls up to the small corner. The crowd of students around me flood into the tiny bus, most moving to the back of the vehicle. It's a bumpy ride to the school. I put in my headphones to block out the chattering students around me.

When I finally get to class, I slump down to my seat in the very back. My classmates make their way into the classroom as well. It was the first lesson of the day, and luckily, it was only 30 minutes long. We took notes as the teacher lectured. If it weren't for my messy handwriting in my notebook, I'd have no memory of what we had learned today, because I spent the whole time staring at Beomgyu.

He turns to talk to a friend sitting behind him, accidentally catching my gaze in the process. I tear my eyes away from him. I hide my heated face with my hand and try to focus on the notes. What has gotten into me? He's just a guy... He is just another student at this school. I have no reason to be so obsessed with him. This is not like me at all.

"Okay class, that's the end of the lesson for today. Remember that your homework is due at the beginning of class this Wednesday!"

Everyone is rushing out of the room as I stumble to get close to Beomgyu. He's not scary, I have no reason to be afraid of him. Yet I find my hands shaking as they grasp my textbooks. I stare at the ground as I walk past the rows of desks.

"Uh, Hi" I smile at him.

He turns to me, "Hey Y/N"

"I was wondering if you could go with me to, um, prom" I force myself to keep eye contact with him, despite wanting to run away.

"What?" he asks, a blank look on his face.

Internally, I cringe. Trying to regain my confidence, I continue, "well, I wasn't going to go to prom, but everyone keeps talking about it, and, um," I read the confusion on his face. He's going to say no. He is absolutely going to say no. I can't do this. What can I say to avoid the rejection? "I need help lying to my parents!"

His face contorts, "...huh?"

"Yeah! My mom, she has this weird fascination with my social life, and she really really wants me to ask a guy out to prom! But the thing is, I don't like anybody," I lie, "so I was wondering if you could pretend to be my date so she stops bothering me about it!"

He pauses in thought. Eventually he meets my eyes again, "I wasn't originally going to go, but I can help you out"

"Really?!" I gasp in shock that my crazy plan even worked.

"Yeah, just text me the details" he smiles softly, "wait, do you have my phone number?"

I pretend to think, "Uh, no... I don't think so"

"Here, let me give it to you" He pulls out his phone.

The rest of the day I mindlessly go to my classes. I'm going to prom with Choi Beomgyu!!! Except... not really. My lie about my mom being too concerned with my social life was just supposed to soften the blow of him rejecting me. I was hoping to leave with him rejecting my promposal, but not rejecting my feelings; I figured it would be easier to handle if he didn't know that I liked him. If he thought I just asked him because I was asking everyone, and that way I would save my pride.

But he said yes. He agreed to go to prom with me. Or pretend to, anyways. So... he must like me some amount to agree to go, but I'm guessing he doesn't like-like me. my feelings aren't shared.

And that hurts.

Ding!

I turn to the kitchen table where I set my phone. As I turn it over, the screen lights up with a notification from Beomgyu:

Choi Beomgyu: What do you want me to wear for prom?

Me: I don't know... I haven't actually picked out what I'm going to wear yet haha

Choi Beomgyu: Okay

I knit my eyebrows. He must be a dry texter. Unless... Does he hate me?!

The door opens as my mom walks in, "I'm home"

"Mom!" I jump, "Hey, I have to ask you something"

"What is it?"

I take a deep breath, "Can I go to prom this Friday?"
