These pics come to us by a request of a DA member, who wanted me to draw a pic of his OC, Elora the Giant Unifaun in my Kim Possible style. He also wanted to insert himself into the picture as her boyfriend, Cody.  The first pic has her holding him close in what he called a "boobs hug". Although realistically, given the fact that she's a giant and the fact that her chest is so huge anyway, there's hardly any other kind of hug she could have given him.^_^ The other one had him wanting to see a Christmas-themed pic of Elora, the RED-NOSED Unifaun, happily spending some Christmas time with Cody. This time, we find them in an area, referred to by as the "Winter Wonderland Forest", which is certainly an appropriate setting for the moment. Elora, meanwhile, has been more than happy to adopt a few Christmas traditions as her own...particularly revolving around a little plant known as mistletoe. As you can see, her guy isn't exactly complaining. Truthfully, this member would ask me to draw several pics of Elora over the years, but I honestly thing that these two were, hands down, the best ones I ever drew for him, so these are the ones I’m posting here.  Anyone who wants to see the others can look up my Gallery on DeviantArt.

I have been working on this for so long. Mostly because I couldn't decide on a design for the epaulettes. I kept wanting to go more... more. But the sketch always looked better, so simple it is! I did the pink first then my eyes started killing me so I added a teal for ease of the eyes. I'm really happy with him!

Significato di Dancing With The Moonlit Knight

Dancing With The Moonlit Knight è un lamento tagliente e ironico sulla società inglese degli anni 70.

In questo brano i Genesis parlano del cambiamento morale e culturale dell’Inghilterra, interrogandosi sulla pochezza del presente rispetto allo splendore del passato a suon di neologismi, simboli e significati che non sono difficili da interpretare.

Sono più che difficili, sono complicatissimi, tant’è che per diversi riferimenti non c’è una risposta certa se non recuperare il numero di telefono di Peter Gabriel e chiederglielo di persona.

Peter Gabriel, con un tono di voce triste e disilluso, apre la canzone nella musica fiabesca tipicamente Genesis e si chiede che fine ha fatto la sua patria.

“Can You Tell Me Where My Country Lies?”

A rivolgere la domanda è un soggetto intraducibile ma che possiamo vedere come una figura mitologica: l’unifaun.

É il primo gioco di parole di questo splendido album, nato dall’unione di faun e uniform. Un fauno in uniforme. Non ho trovato altri significati più precisi dopo mille ricerche.

A rispondere è la Queen of Maybe, la Regina del Forse: ” ‘It lies with me’ cried the Queen of Maybe”

Dove la Regina del Forse è la Regina delle Possibilità, della scelta, cosa tipica delle nazioni globalizzate come l’Inghilterra, che di scelte ne ha a tonnellate.

Scelte di vita, possibilità di lavoro e carriera che frullati assieme alle caratteristiche morali della società inglese degli anni 70 fanno venire fuori uno shake moralmente discutibile: ricerca di elevarsi economicamente a tutti i costi, occasione commerciale, il successo, l’egoismo.

Maybe anche come comfort zone: forse ce la faccio, o forse no. Forse riesco, forse no. Nel dubbio non faccio nulla. Un controsenso della società inglese, che di controsensi ne ha molti secondo i Genesis.

Ecco il secondo gioco di parole: Queen of Maybe è la Queen of May, importante figura mitologica inglese e simbolo della primavera.

L’Inghilterra si sta svendendo tirando sul prezzo: “For her merchandise, he traded in his price”

I Genesis si guardano alle spalle e realizzano che le ultime notizie (“Paper late!”) parlano della morte dei “vecchi uomini”, probabilmente i padri fondatori della loro patria o almeno delle generazioni prima della loro.

Le ultime generazioni sono molto diverse come valori morali e hanno portato l’Inghilterra a svendersi un tanto al chilo, e anche un celebre simbolo inglese come il Vecchio Padre Tamigi ti dice che questi vecchi uomini non nasceranno più.

Scordatevelo, e ora, dopo aver firmato questa nota, è meglio che affondi.

Il gruppo poi guarda agli inglesi delle nuove generazioni. Cittadini di “speranza e gloria”, anche se il tempo della tua vita è adesso, non preoccuparti: siediti e mangia sereno in uno dei fast food di Londra simbolo della globalizzazione, tipo Wimpey, digerendo l’Inghilterra un po’ alla volta:

“Chewing through your Wimpey dreams, They eat without a sound Digesting England by the pound”

La società di oggi è attenta a mangiare e vestirsi bene, con i giovani che dicono “eat well” e i vecchi che rispondono “wear well”, entrambi se ne fregano del destino della nazione.

Il significato del ritornello è oscuro ma sembra avere molto a che fare con il cristianesimo, con Gabriel che infatti nomina il Graal.

Non è chiaro chi sia il Capitano (The Captain leads his dance right on through the night), ma sembra invitare tutti a seguirlo (forse per purificarsi) e neanche il Moonlit Knight.

Blog americani hanno analizzato nel dettaglio il brano, strofa per strofa, e sono arrivati alla conclusione che il Moonlit Knight sia una divinità pagana inventata, simbolica e oscura.

Peter Gabriel inserisce un altro gioco di parole divertendosi con Knights of the Green Shield stamp and shout.

Il Green Shield stamp era un famoso concorso a premi inglese nato nel 1958 che permetteva a chi faceva la spesa di ottenere regali e premi, sperando di essere fortunato.

É proprio nella fortuna che spera la grassa vecchia signora che gioca d’azzardo con la propria carta di credito, non capendo che resterà fregata per i meccanismi della globalizzazione, come se il gioco fosse truccato in partenza.

Ancora una volta, qualcosa di mitologico è accostato alla società moderna.
