We built a boat!

Now we need some vikings.

I was at the craft store buying loads of fur and natural colored fabrics and the cutting counter lady asked me about my project.

“Oh, so what are you making?”

“Well, I have a crew of vikings to outfit.”

“Oh, cool! For a halloween thing?”

“Nope, we built 10 x 8ft cardboard boat and we’re running it down the rapids of the US National Whitewater Center. So we need viking outfits that can be worn with lifejackets and helmets.”

“Why?”

“Seemed like a good idea at the time.”

So often we find ourselves, the summer guides that have made everyone else’s holidays and vacations our work, looking at the benchmarks of the season: ramping into Memorial Day to start the summer, building toward the false peak at the Fourth of July, and finally wondering what Labor Day will bring... What is typically lost, and what some forget, is the reality of how fast warm September becomes October: the swiftly closing window of another season. For me, I’ve found myself reflecting quite a bit lately, attempting to piece together lessons learned as we prepare for the offseason, and yet we continue forward. As time moves, so must we. None of us can truly be sure of what the next moment will bring, but it’s been a good season. There is still time, and as we sit at the final true benchmark of summer, it is only appropriate to consider what is next. What will the next couple of months have in store?
