"The Global North’s political economy relies on the oppression of the Global South in general and of Palestine in particular.
As academic and writer Patrick Higgins noted in late October: 'We’re seeing a blow against the US-led world system. Since, really post-World War II, but especially post-1970 or so, Israel has been the linchpin, the basket into which most of the American chips are put, in order to sustain broader control of West Asia.'
This historical reality places a profound obligation on those in the Global North who would seek to be in solidarity to seriously consider what strategies and tactics Palestinians are calling for in the struggle for liberation, sovereignty and safety.
Such calls to action do not include that we opine on Palestinians’ methods of resistance.
They do include that we understand the history and actuality of that resistance, do all we can to stop the ongoing provision of arms to the occupation, engage in boycott, divestment and sanctions, and fight back against the criminalization of those who support Palestine’s liberation from Zionist settler colonialism.
As Virginia Tech’s Bikrum Gill exhorted: 'Show no fear, no surrender, as you oppose those who support the US-Israeli genocide of Palestinians. Bring your institutions to crisis if their functioning requires silence or complicity.'"

In other news, this week a French publisher on his way to the London Book Fair was arrested by British counter-terrorist police to be questioned about his participation in protests in France.
Tumblr media
A French publisher has been arrested on terror charges in London after being questioned by UK police about participating in anti-government protests in France.
Moret arrived at St Pancras [...] with his colleague Stella Magliani-Belkacem, the editorial director at the Paris-based publishing house, to be confronted by the two officers. [...] He was questioned for six hours and then arrested for alleged obstruction in refusing to disclose the passcodes to his phone and computer. [...] He was transferred to a police station in Islington, north London, where he remained in custody on Tuesday. He was later released on bail.
Éditions la Fabrique is known for publishing radical left authors. Moret also represents the French science fiction novelist Alain Damasio and had arranged more than 40 appointments at the London book fair. [...]
[Quoting publishing house’s press release] “The police officers claimed that Ernest had participated in demonstrations in France as a justification for this act – a quite remarkably inappropriate statement for a British police officer to make, and which seems to clearly indicate complicity between French and British authorities on this matter.” [...] “There’s been an increasingly repressive approach by the French government to the demonstrations, both in terms of police violence, but also in terms of a security clampdown.”
(Guardian link - BBC link) (article in French)
The publishing house (here’s their latest statement in French) and the publisher’s lawyer mention that the British police asked him “Do you support Emmanuel Macron? Did you attend protests against the pension reform?” and he was also asked to name the authors with anti-government views that his employer has published. They add, “Asking the representative of a publishing house, in the framework of counter-terrorism, about the opinions of his authors, is pushing even further the logic of political censorship and repression of dissenting thought. In a context of social protests and authoritarian escalation on the part of the French government, this aspect [of the questioning] is chilling.”
Being an accomplice to thoughtcrime by publishing dissident authors gets you treated like an international terrorist now... The publisher’s lawyer suggests that French authorities asked the UK to help them get their hands on the publisher’s contacts in the radical left sphere. But on the face of it, we’ve got: Exercise your right to protest your government in France -> get arrested by counter-terrorist UK police in London. That’s literally the reason he was given for being greeted by police at the train station...

one of the many interesting things about Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella (1997) (the version starring Whitney Houston and Brandy) is that it incorporated songs from other r&h shows. one of these songs being "the sweetest sounds" - cinderella and prince christopher's duet in the town square. that song originates from the show no strings (1962), and was originally sung by Diahann Carroll.
With her starring role in No Strings, Diahann Carroll became the first Black American actress to win a Tony Award for Leading Actress in a Musical.
Here's Diahann Carroll performing on The Ed Sullivan Show:

Look before the War Within starts and Anduin gets to work on his Shadowlands gotten trauma and development I need to dunk on him (affectionate) for a quick second okay?
So in Before the Storm he has this line:
"Her [Sylavnas's] eyes narrowed. Anduin knew she understood the lesson of this day's tragic events. She was not universally loved among her people. He was. She ruled with an iron fist. He ruled with compassion. (pg347)"
Which comparatively sure, fair. Sylvanas has just put a hard, murderous, stop to Calia's first attempt at girlbossing and killed about half the desolate council. Before the Storm is what it needed to be for BfA and beyond.
But I would like to point out that earlier in the book we have this:
"Anduin had been informed that negative sentiment was not limited to his advisors. Guards and Shaw's people had reported that there was muttering in some of the taverns and on the streets. The guards had been instructed to interrupt such conversations if they verged on sedition or grew violent. (pg 248)"
Baby boy that is not universally beloved and ruling with compassion. Lol. Lmao even.
I've scrawled all in my copy with little notes and I have a messy word document with rewrite ideas for this 6 (!) year old book. I am excited to see what we have going on under Silithus. In the end WoW is a video game that needs to keep selling and making new storylines.

👀👀
I hope you won't be disappointed if I do something a little different for one of those two emojis.
You know those "TV show/movie/characters being a comedy/comedic duo for x number of minutes" videos? I started making "Scream 3 being a comedy..." a couple weeks back but due to technical difficulties I haven't finished it yet:
And here's a rough draft of a scene from the Griffin x Faragonda enemies to lovers AU:
Sylvia just... looked bored. She may as well have been more intrigued by the tile patterns on the wall had Griffin's frame not obscured them from her gaze.
Griffin's body didn't feel her own, cold and distant like a corpse instead. She would have shivered if she could move, despite her best efforts.
"You're not half the witch your mother was. How do you think a horde of rogue paladins broke through the defense spells on your house?"
Her words lacked cruelty as if Griffin wasn't even worth that much. Any kind of emotion would become an acknowledgement of Griffin as an obstacle at the very least. To Sylvia she was nothing of the sort... nothing.
"What?" she choked out, her voice like glass shards she was forcing up her closing throat.
It wasn't right. The bitter taste on her tongue wasn't spite, familiar and invigorating. Her stomach was in a knot, the sick feeling trapped inside instead of becoming rising nausea. Her heart hammered so fast in her ears it was like she was plugged in the power grid, electricity crackling through her limbs. Her sight blurred. It was usually razor sharp, trained on the face in front of her to catch the furrowed brow, the twitch of the mouth, all while she gritted her teeth to keep her own insides from spilling to escape the burn.
Anticipation crawled across her ribs, prickling with every breath as if to make sure that she didn't inhale too much air, that there was still room inside her for the rest of Sylvia's point, hanging unspoken in the air. Now spite wouldn't have had the same weight, wouldn't have loomed just as threateningly over their heads, twisting Sylvia's arm into talking simply to get Griffin out of her office and take her desperation with her.
Sylvia tilted her head - a kind of acknowledgement that cut to the bone. Coupled with her voice piercing through Griffin, it released some of the tension stretching her taut.
"A paladin's power comes from devotion to a cause. The moment one goes rogue, it puts a dent in his magic that lets more and more of it seep away. It's by design. Either he's forsaken an integral part of his cause or he put his devotion into an imperfect representation of it. Either way the awareness of that remains in the back of their mind and corrodes their power.
"A doubly-enforced defense spell would never fail to a type of caster with a crack in their own belief system if the magic was distributed evenly across it. If you put weight on a rope braided from steel threads and wool ones, which ones do you think will give way first? Your magic was the weak link in that spell."
Her teeth sank into her tongue. Fire raced her nerves and the metallic tang of blood choked her. It was the only thing keeping her from spitting out what she knew, from showing her hand like a fool. She'd be dead on the floor before she could even entertain the notion of posing a threat to the family image Sylvia had cultivated so carefully over decades. Information was only leverage if it could reach its destination.
"Too bad your mother decided to stay home and devote her life to you instead of putting her superior powers to use," Sylvia poured more salt into the wound as if Griffin was some demon that would be chased away or destroyed by it.
"I don't see you parading around with your daughter."
There was no change in the witch's expression. She was talking to a statue made of pure self-interest and cold calculation.
"Faragonda might be a disappointment but she got you, didn't she?"

That's like me first time seeing this
Also, while I was desperately trying to find where 'Agatha' came from, I've ended up looking at official DLC guide that I've never seen before ( x ). I never was able to lay my dirty hands on official merch of this kind (and now never will again), but looks like I was kinda wrong:
Tumblr media
All five of you remember my interpretation, right? I find it strange because not only all clues towards Willem still being important and relevant in the Healing Church are still in the game plain and clear, but also even in Japanese title for Laurence, his status refers to "the guy that replaces the ACTUAL leader of [religious institution]" ( x ).
It does not change... too much? But yeah, I will have to loosen my theory up and properly keep Willem as someone who stayed behind in Byrgenwerth, simply writing it as Healing Church still had contact with him (that secret cave in the woods, Yurie the Last SCHOLAR(!), that Church Giant in Lecture Hall, Byrgenwerth doing the Fishing Hamlet yet that's considered Church's secret, Willem and Byrgenwerth being aware of Laurence's Moon Presence and Gehrman even asking Willem to free him etc)... until it was declared "forbidden" later, for the same reason why Oedon Chapel ended up rumoured as cringefail place. I was moving towards it anyways, but now just more certainly! So, Byrgenwerth and Healing Church WERE in tight contact even after Laurence started doing his thing but Willem didn't help to found shit, he just layed back and watched the youth learn from their mistakes lol.
youtube
This also means that this altair is more likely not how Willem used to look, but Laurence, when I thought the opposite was true:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the other hand:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The guide confirms what already was in the game but is often glossed over by the fandom; that Fishing Hamlet massacre was order of WILLEM and not Laurence and even devs say there is legit connection, that Willem wants us to hunt Rom and that Amelia was not a direct successor of Laurence but there were other Vicars that can make cool OCs!
Tumblr media
Otherwise, nothing new was learned! Just that fiiiiine, I will return Laurence his proper role and push Willem back to be little to none active in Healing Church's life like it was meant to be. I wish I've seen this statement on the nose before, and not some vague cutscene with many other things in the game pointing towards a different interpretation 🙄 (@val-of-the-north come begrudgingly sing the Wrong Song with me xd (Okay I am joking, like I said it barely changes our story, just makes Willem elbowed away stronger. he still dresses like a pope tho so Byrgenwerth totally was a theocratical school)).
..... ah, shit, right, Agatha
Yeah me and the girls figured out that it was just a placeholder name that stuck and no official source ever called Chapel Dweller that. Not even in the same name as how Djura used to be called Guyla in promo materials, like... ever. Chapel Dweller was and IS a nameless babygirl.
