Alton Kelly and Stanley Mouse used the late 19th century depiction of a skull with roses by Edmund Joseph Sullivan for the cover design of the Grateful dead album that is generally known as Skulls and Roses, after the record company had refused the title preferred by Jerry Garcia: Skull F*ck.

Suptober '22: Day 9 "Vintage"
Tumblr media
Dagon slips the record into it's sleeve and hands it back to her little brother, Asmodeus, who's been awaiting her approval.
"How did you get this on vinyl?" she asks. He gives her that sassy little smirk of his before answering in the most casual tone possible.
"I know a guy." Dagon laughs.
"Of course, you do." Her eyes go to the door as they hear their older brother's steps on the porch. Asmodeus quickly hides the record in a stack of them on the shelf. Ramiel comes in through the door, eyeing the two suspiciously. He knows they're up to something.
"What about 'I want to be alone' do you two not understand?"
"Oh, come on." Dagon whines.
"Get out." Ramiel tells them, sternly. Dagon stays where she stands as Asmodeus goes to light a candle. Dagon breathes, shakily, at the flame. It reminded her of Azazel and she hasn't been right in the head since they found his body in the graveyard. She was going to make them pay but not quite yet. "Well, I said, get out!"
"How about no?" Asmodeus replies. "I'm sick of you trying to push me away, Ramiel. You've got to miss it, don't you? What we used to have."
"That was a long time ago." Ramiel says, his voice almost carefree. "It ended when you died in my arms. We can't be soft like that again."
"Oh, but we can." Asmodeus insists. Ramiel's face hardens.
"I'll give you two some space." Dagon says, wisely, grabbing the lit candle and heading off into another room.
"I'm not trying to make you weak!" Asmodeus snaps. "We're stronger together, brother. We always were. Even as kids."
"Then why are you here?"
"I just told you." Asmodeus inhales, sharply, composing himself. He walks over to the shelf, pulling out the record he had added to his brother's vast collection of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, etc. and puts it on. Soft, country music that threatens to own your soul and make you sway to the beat comes out of the old speaker. He then turns to approach Ramiel. "Let me seduce you. At least, for the night."
Ramiel leans into his touch as his brother cups his cheek. He missed that touch. "Let me own you." Asmodeus adds, at last.
"Is it really owning if I'm letting you do it?" Ramiel asks. Asmodeus chuckles, dangerously.
"Oh, I'm afraid I'm-a have to punish you for that."
"Give me your worst." Ramiel says, with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"You sure about that, boy?" Ramiel grabs him by the collar and slams him down, pinning him to the floor.
"Fuck me and find out."
"Yes!" Dagon whispers to herself in the next room.

To give you a bit of background, I have a fantheory that when the Princes were human, Dagon and Azazel were together and so were Asmodeus and Ramiel. But, of course, something like that wouldn't just fade away. And Dagon ships the Hell out of those two.

Check out BTS' stats on Billboard for this past week! Notable this week is "VIBE" debuting at #76 on the Hot 100, #2 on the Digital Song Sales chart, and #9 on the Global 200 excluding U.S. chart. Indigo became the longest running album by a Korean soloist on the Billboard 200 album chart. Finally, Love Yourself Her also was the #1 vinyl last week! Keep up the great work supporting the tannies, ARMY!

Sneaker Pimps, 6 Underground from Becoming X (1996).

In 1996, I had a crush on Kelli Dayton Ali's voice. Her voice is an ASMR experience, for me. It sounds like that feeling after really good sex. It sounds like the taste of good whiskey and a cigarette. It sounds like . . . a moment.

Better Records.
They are a business. These are the people who I said annoy me. To be fair I am adding a link so that you may find them and judge for yourself.
Why do they annoy me? Well they are enthusiastic and I am sure they care as there is a lot of work behind this business. But as I have said many many times the sound YOU like may not be the sound I like.
In one of their explanatory bits they say an LP they liked on their old system was not as good on their new system. I could not find anything about what their current system was. It makes a difference. They have a term "tubey magic" that often determines better from good. I suspect that they have a very good tube based system.
There is nothing wrong with tube systems, (Hell that's what I am running now!) but they can and usually do mask detail to varying degrees. They add "space" and texture and many lovely features that are not on the recording. This is fact. I experienced this first hand over 5 decades in this game. At least one record grading company uses all high end solid state equipment for this very reason. They want to hear what is there warts and all.
As we are talking about LPs the turntable is important, but critical is the phonograph pick up. (Cartridge). What brand and type is it? Is it moving coil or moving iron or moving magnet? What type of stylus does it have? Is it properly loaded? What preamp stage is used? Each of these things make an important difference to the sound.
So their reference system is important. If you have a system similar to that their results are more valid for you. High end systems all sound different.
I spend most of my time with Classical and Jazz type music. I have a fair bit of Rock and Popular too, but so much of that is deliberately mixed for car radios and now earbuds. That is not optimal for big speakers and serious systems. Even a good copy may not sound good.
This is why I like re-issued and re-mastered LPs. The business is targeting good sound now as that is the LP customer base today. My audiophile copy of that Gino Vanelli track on the A&M sampler is different than the original good condition LP we have in apparent compression. The Fancy copy has far less or even no compression compared to the original. That is on the master used and no searching for better copies of the original will remove that.
I am sure the good copies they have are actually really good under specific conditions. What I am saying is you may buy a really good copy from them and not be satisfied. They do have a money back policy, so I believe in their integrity.
Hey my pet cats can be really annoying too.
