Okay y'all, this is it. The FINAL for the Mineral Swag Tournament.

Fluorite.

Fluorite is a fantastic mineral. It would not have gotten this far otherwise. It comes in a ton of colors, it naturally forms both octahedra and cubes (and massive deposits), and it show brilliant bright blue color under UV light. Fluorescence (the phenomena) is named that because of fluorite!

It also does this fun thing (that other minerals do as well, but it is common among fluorite) where it changes color as it forms because of changing impurities in the solution from which it grows! Elements like iron, copper, manganese, chromium (and more!) can replace individual ions in fluorite's chemical structure and cause the light to reflect different wavelengths and we therefore see that as a different color. This can also happen if a fluorite ion is missing because the sample has been irradiated (for example) and NOTHING replaces it and so the light still reflects in a different way! That is one of the ways we get purple fluorite and this method of producing color is known as color centers.

Of course, not all fluorite fluoresces. Not all fluorite forms cubes or octahedra. Some fluorite is colorless. Some of it looks like an ugly little piece of translucent rock. Or a vein of purple mineral in a crack between two other rocks. It would be irresponsible for me to insinuate that all fluorite is this majestic.

But there are some properties that you will always find in fluorite. It has four directions of cleavage. It is the defining mineral for a 4 on the Mohs hardness scale. It will always be made of calcium and fluoride in a 1:2 ratio. These things are some of what define fluorite as a distinct mineral!

Opal.

Opal is a beautiful gemstone. Please note that I did not call it a "beautiful mineral" because it is not technically a mineral. It is a solid, inorganic substance with a defined chemical formula, but it lacks the specific crystal structure which minerals MUST have to be considered a mineral.

This crystal structure is the entire reason why fluorite is capable of forming cubes and octahedra. And why garnet forms dodecahedra and beryl forms columns and so on. Opal only comes in those fun little oval shaped stones because it was cut that way! Fluorite forms cubes because it just knows how. Otherwise, opal forms shapeless masses that fracture rather than cleave (fluorite cleaves--four ways). That being said, opal's lack of crystal structure allows it to sometimes be iridescent.

After all, there is a reason opal made it this far. When it shines, it is beautiful. There are several varieties of precious opal (opal that displays its trademark play-of-color/iridescence) and they are all very fun to look at. These precious opals are made of microscopic silica spheres that light reflects off of in weird ways and causes opal to look like it is glittering with a dozen different colors.

However, one would be remiss to forget common opal! Some opal is milky white or a translucent blue, and if you're going to love opal at her fire opal, you better also love her at her common opal.

Here are some raw pieces of opal (common opal on the left). Note how they break irregularly. They have conchoidal fracture, which both quartz and normal glass (all of which are just silica) also have. I personally think conchoidal fracture is pretty neat.

Also, while the opals on the right would still be considered precious opal, they are what the average person is likely to find. Just little bits of iridescence here and there.

And, like fluorite, while not all opals have all of the cool features, they do have some similarities. They will always have conchoidal fracture if they break. And they will always be made of hydrated SiO2.

Greg is a sweet and funny guy that caught Rose's attention, as she gets to know him, Rose actually genuinely falls in love with humanity and humans. She used to view them as something like pets or playthings, worth protecting, but not really on the same level as her. Greg shows her the true beauty and complexity of humanity. Pearl and Greg love Rose so much and she loves them back in her own way. Rose is gone now (giving up her physical form so her son could be born), leaving Pearl and Greg to grief. Voting is Now Open for Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2022's Anime Fan Award

    The official website for Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2022 (TAAF2022) announced on January 6 that voting is now open for the Anime Fan Award of its Anime of the Year category. You can vote as many times as you like during the period from January 6 to February 3, 2022, but only once a day (You need a Twitter account to vote).

   From November 1 to December 2, 2021, the festival organized a public vote to select the top 100 titles (80 TV series and 20 theatrical films and OVAs) from 446 anime works screened or broadcast in the year 2021 (October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021). In total, 152,959 votes were cast during the 32-say period. From these 100 titles listed below, the fans will once again vote for their most favorite anime of 2021.

    Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2022 (TAAF2022) is set to held in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, from March 11 to 14, 2022. TAFF is an international animation film festival that was developed from the Tokyo Anime Awards, which was held as part of the Tokyo International Anime Fair from 2002 to 2013. Its official website writes its aim is "discovering and developing new talent, contributing to the promotion of the animation culture/industry, and conveying the appeal of Tokyo as promoting tourism in the city."

So, the shipment I got yesterday has some really neat things! Rainbow fluorite spheres, new find lavender/purple fluorite points, rose quartz crescent moon bowls, grape agate skulls, obsidian skulls, little agate geode moons, mini agate geode spheres, and I think that's about it 🤔

My question is this: tumblr sale or online shop update?

Please only vote if you're planning on purchasing something so I can get an accurate idea of what is best to do 🙏 last couple of times we did a shop update they went very poorly so I will only do it if you all *really* want me to 😄

Some things to consider:

Shop updates allow for more items to be posted individually rather than random selection

Tumblr sales mean that you don't have to leave Tumblr to place your order until you pay after invoices are sent

Okay for real that game is a fucking mess. The staff are absolutely atrocious at their job- ever since I started playing in like 2012, there's only ever been 2 staff members I liked (and they more than likely know who they are). I've managed and am managing groups of people larger than the average number of people I've seen online in the past months. I'm confident that my friends and I could manage the game better than the current team, so I'm gonna dish out some advice.

Firstly, being open with the community is a big deal. The fh staff are notorious for keeping things secret. Take, for example, the rule about discussing bans. This just makes the claims that people were banned for no reason more believable, and it allows rules to be vague. If there was a public list of bans- they wouldn't even have to mention a username- what's acceptable and unacceptable would be a lot more clear. Another example was the map update in 2016. I believe community input would have been valuable in this case- a lot of people left because of the new maps, and I personally believe it would have been better to keep some of the old maps (Fluorite, Bonfire), update some (Lonely cave, South Pole, Ficho, Cape), replace Atlantis with Zama Grotto, get rid of a few (Last Cave, the beach one that's not new bonfire, the grounds), and just add the rest on. That way, the community isn't being uprooted from its original gathering spots.

Secondly. Let the community be involved with picking staff members. Have them vote. Allow them to vote staff members off the team. Listen to critique of how you're running the game.

Third, raise the required age to sign up. Not only is it easier legally to manage teens, but older kids are the core demographic staff alienated by banning people for making sexually suggestive remarks, cursing, mentioning drugs/alcohol, etc. The staff need to realize the audience that the game appeals to the most: furries. Specifically, gen z furries that draw mostly feral characters. Legally speaking, nobody under the age of 13 should have an account an any website. It follows that the youngest people playing the game should be 13. Idk if any of the staff have met 13 year olds, but by then, they are likely aware of curse words and the like. I would venture to say that a lot of feralheart's former players are in the 16+ age range.

Fourth, I think the game needs some serious graphics/coding work. I do not know xspirit very well, since they joined the staff team very recently, but they have a lot of work to do. My girlfriend complains to me all the time about occlusion, or whatever the distance fog thing is called. The other issue is characters clipping through the terrain and objects. Those are the two that irritate her the most as a game design student. I think it would be best to remake the game in another engine, like unity or unreal. I would be willing to bet that fh's code is... Ugly. For these reasons, the staff need more coders.

Last of all, encouraging the missing community by adding popular mods to the core game. My prime example of this is character customization. To me, it would make sense if the default game came with legendary and mass markings. It would also be great to see new character customization (hair, tufts, tails, ears, etc) if not entirely new models (domestic dog, domestic cat, etc). This would likely require some kind of funding, but i also think it would be easily crowdsourced. Having individuals give permission via a contract to use their mods in the vanilla game would ease a lot of headaches.
