in continuation of this post, here's a more detailed look at Maleficent's castle, including the commentary from the Descendants production designer, Mark Hofeling, and also my own thoughts and obsesrvations.

"We imagined the once-mighty Maleficent humiliated and furious in defeat. Even in her fallen state, she would still require the most befitting accommodation on the Isle of the Lost. The "Bargain Castle", while hokey and ramshackle, most resembles her former keep in the Forbidden Mountains. And its balcony gives her an unobstructed view across the bay to the hated Auradon. This is the exterior of the second floor, interior set. This was digitally added to a practical ground floor at the end of the main street of the Isle of the Lost. "

"A broad view of Maleficent's cavernous, leaky, drafty cold-water walk-up in the Bargain Castle on the Isle of the Lost."

i love the peeling paint on the walls, the mismatched furniture and lamps, how weathered and aged everything is. and how this is the height of luxury for the Isle.

"Maleficent's sunken living room with her unreliable Predicta TV. It is her only link to the outside world."

the Predicta TV is from the late 50s, the screen is tiny, and, according to the commentary, the connection is unreliable. but still, in Maleficent's home, it has a special niche, and a stand, it's treated as an indulgence. there's also a vinyl player, and some records, but most of them are without sleeves, so i imagine they're scratched and skip sometimes, but Maleficent still likes them. there's a newspaper, probably a few days old, but a way to keep up with the outside world when the TV is broken.

"The mismatched sofa in Maleficent's sunken living room."

since the barges only bring in trash, we can assume that no big objects, like a sofa arive in one piece. there is also a bowl of (probably stale) froot loops (?) on the table which i think is hilarious and sad.

"A view of Maleficent's dressing area and her elevated throne. Domesticity is not among her considerable powers."

it's actually such a tiny space... like her vanity is made out of an old trunk, the lamp on it is covered with fabric, most likely because the proper lampshade is ruined. this also implies that there is not enough space for it in her bedroom... there is a tiny furnace with wood, which is used both to warm the place and to dry the clothes. the drapes are thin and totally let the light in but i think it's not such a problem on the Isle, since it's permamently overcast.

"We wanted to give Maleficent one artifact from her former, magnificent life. The director suggested maybe her throne. Unfortunately, the throne from the original animation was a 12 foot wide, 6 ton stone bat. Not a practical thing to carry into exile. So I tried to evoke the idea of that throne with a ridiculous green and purple wingback chair she might have confiscated from the Isle's Bazaar."

first off, i love that he says that it's confiscated. Maleficent doesn't buy things, but she doesn't steal them either, she just takes them because she has the power to do so. other thing i love is that as far as i understand, this is the most elevated point in the house, so she can sit on her “throne” and feel powerful.

we also see a similar rug in front of her sofa, so i assume it was probably one rug that was cut up in pieces.

the fact that there's a telephone implies that they have some kind of internal landline system on the isle, my head canon is that one of the more engineering inclined minion/scientist/wtv hooked it up. there's just a few telephones between the houses of the most powerful. the dirty, stained windows supported by old newspapers and duct tape just show how weathered everything is.

"The job of the production designer is to conceive and execute the broad look of a show. But the big picture is built out of thousands of details. I spent my weekends in Vancouver having a ball cooking up little details like Maleficent's childlike "REVENGE", "FOOLS!", and spinning wheel magnets, and her shopping and to-do lists, all stuck to her "WICKEDAIRE" refrigerator."

the real-life equivalent is a Frigidaire refrigerator from the late fifties. which, from what i've seen, seems like most of the tech on the Isle is from that time period, despite the fact that Auradon living in seemingly contemporary times, with modern technology and all that. i think they purposely don't send modern tech there, only old, barely working things there, because they know that technology could, theoretically, break the barrier (which is what Carlos does in the first book). also, i like that he calls Maleficent child-like, because i think she's definitely become that way there, bored out of her mind, every avenue for revenge lost, nothing to really keep sharp. also, if we ignore the things on her to-do list that are cartoonishly evil, the rest of the list is kind of mundane and a little pathetic... like there's something wrong with the rain gutters, she needs to call Jafar over to fix her TV antenna, since it's her only connection to the outside world... she used to be the Mistress of all Evil.

"A detail of Maleficent's poorly tuned piano."

again, the paint is peeling on the walls and on the furniture, there is no front on the piano, there is no one to even tune it. i think she still likes the music... we see what are probably magic book strewn around, potions (and probably some alcohol) on the side table.

"A detail of one of Maleficent's many broken, drafty windows."

i can't quite figure out where it's supposed to be but still, the way some windows are painted, some covered by newspaper (help together by duct tape) makes me thing that either 1. Maleficent wanted to emulate the look of stained glass from her former glory days; 2. Mal did it to make the place look better (actually, she probably did a lot of work to make the house look better?); 3. they don't want outsiders looking in, while still letting light in. i doubt that the trash telescope works, but if it does, it's probably used to spy on people, though i think it's just a vanity item.

"Maleficent's scratchy Victrola. Notice the double helix of the custom wallpaper. It evokes both Maleficent's classic thorn vine's from Sleeping Beauty and the idea of the DNA of evil. Does it pass from one generation to the next, or can one change their destiny?"

again, more books and another record player. i think Maleficent tries to dissociate from the situation, get lost in music, re-listening to the same scratchy records, re-reading the same books, re-trying the same ineffective spells.

i didn't even notice the double helix wallpaper before!! i always thought it was just a thorn pattern, referencing her story. this is such an amazing representation of how evil is embedded in the kids blood, and how despite it all they choose change.

through what we've seen, i think there's probably just a few more rooms in the castle: Maleficent bedroom, Mal's bedroom, and their bathrooms, maaaybe a smal storage room. they call it a castle but really it's just a rickety, crooked, decaying apartment on top of some shop. and this is how the most powerful person on the Isle of the Lost lives.

Alan Becker Analysis: Hazard's Mysteries (Or Maybe I'm Overthinking???)

Ok so unlike this last post about Victim and Glasses Guy / "Agent", this isn't really me bringing anything solid onto the table (well besides one or two things). This is just me overanalysing random shit that frankly is likely irrelevant.

Anyways this post is about Bathroom Sign Guy aka Hazard aka Warning aka Sign, the gray pictogram mercenary from Animator vs. Animation VI, and why he might have a deeper role (prob doesn't).

Part 1 - The Overthinking of Minor Details

Ok this is the part where I'm 100% convinced I'm just talking stupid shit due to rewatching the episodes too many times, but eh.

Let's start off with something... relatively normal actually, which I saw pointed out by others. When Chosen attacks the mers with lightning, Hazard has this shit happen to him:

This is... frankly weird and idk what it means. When Wanted first came out, this and his movement made me think Hazard was a robot, but since then I started believing he's just a normal stick figure like the others. Besides, this whole series is on a computer so everyone besides the Animator is an AI lol.

So if he's not a robot, perhaps Hazard is connected to technology, and thus taking away the ship's energy took away his? That's the only other thing I can think of.

The second one was actually told to me by a friend, and tbh even in this whole post this might be the biggest stretch, but I still think this is worth bringing up. When Orange and Chosen return to the Outernet, Hazard is seen looking... somewhere.

(btw agent looks so stupid here lmfao)

The most likely answer is that he is simply looking around, like Agent and Primal - the cave drawing - are seen doing like immediately afterwards. But my friend did point out that it could easily look like Hazard is looking up - in which case, he could've possibly noticed Chosen and Orange, and then chose to not tell the other mercenaries until Agent notices them and thus forces Haz to intervene. Likely just huge overthinking of a one-off scene, but still.

The last one from Wanted is this shot of the Mercenaries in the elevator.

In this scene, Hazard briefly looks at Ballista - the pixel gremlin - and then proceeds to look away when the little guy stares back at him. Is it most likely them just finding the awkward elevator silence uncomfortable? Probably yea, but it could also be a sign of Hazard and Ballista having a rocky relationship - we see Ballista is pretty aggressive, so maybe Hazard is nervous around such a batshit crazy dude?

In "The Box", the first Hazard scene worth talking about is the first of his reactions to Victim's torture of Chosen.

We know he is a mercenary and a villain, so it should be expected that he's a cruel bastard, but still, falling asleep while watching torture is just another level. What kind of shit did Hazard see, or do himself, that he finds Victim's actions purely boring?

...and yet, just a few moments more later, Hazard has an actual reaction to Victim pulling out a lasso.

Now, the three dots - and thus, Hazard's silence of a reaction - could mean anything. Maybe he's still bored, just awake now. Maybe he's curious to see what will happen. Maybe he has actual standards. But it's still interesting to see that Victim's lasso got a reaction out of Hazard (meanwhile Ballista just crosses his arms, prob in curiosity or impatience, while Primal stays completely still - I'll get to their personalities later).

Similarly, Victim ordering Agent to clone him also gets a small reaction out of Hazard, his head jumping a little (I don't know how else to call it).

This time, it's definitely just shock/curiosity/surprise that Vic is doing something new, and/or that the Box lets you clone people, but still worth pointing out.

A long time later, we finally get something worthy of note from Hazard, that I actually find interesting. While the other mercs are too busy looking through Chosen's memories, Hazard notices Orange returning.

I feel like this was actually an intentional choice. Like, why make all the mercs focused on Chosen's memories, excluding only one of them - and it's not even the most important mercenary that's the big bad's right hand? Also, why is Hazard so far away from the other mercenaries? While I consider this whole section of the post just major overthinking, this one moment specifically is actually pretty sus to me.

Now, to close off this section, there is Haz's reaction to Super Orange.

Mainly, how he and Victim are the only ones who are inarguably scared/panicking. Primal just leans in like "de fuk", Ballista flinches once and then watches in silence, while Agent double checks on both the small and large monitor. Primal and Agent are confused, Ballista is shocked(? idk how to call it), but Hazard and Vic are the only ones with a true "OH SHIT" reaction. What this means? Idk, again this whole section is just overthinking things.

Thankfully we can leave the part where I talk meaningless shit and get into the parts that hopefully actually have a point.

Part 2 - Hazard and His (Lack of) Personality

Another part I noticed since Wanted first dropped (part of the reason why I first thought Haz was a robot) was that, compared to the other mercs, he has so little personality... which might be intentional.

I mean, Agent. He also doesn't showcase a lot of himself, but we still see that he's cool, calm, loyal to Victim, kind of a taunting asshole who plays with his victims instead of instantly getting serious, and despite it all, not unbreakable - He panicked when Chosen attacked him with the iceberg, and he was caught off-guard by Super Orange like everyone else.

Ballista probably has the most personality out of everyone. His body language shows emotion pretty much all the time: most specifically, anger. Whether it's his fighting style, his pose, or walk cycle, Ballista is pissed off 24/7. It's implied it even makes his co-workers nervous. At the same time, the grin he flashes when jumping off the ship in Wanted shows he enjoys his job.

Primal is second only to Hazard in lack of personality, but there's definitely still something there. Mainly, is that he's a very fight-focused person that is basically an empty shell outside it. He's so ready to fuck up a rhino in Wanted, and sharpens his spear for another hunt while bored, but outside of fighting Orange?... he's pretty dull. Only a bit more emotional than Hazard. He seems like a Kraven-type character who just wants to hunt the biggest prey possible, while having zero life outside it. Also he has a Hulk-style form which reduces him to an animal sapience-wise.

Hazard, though? He uhh... he wants to get Chosen, is very focused on completing the job, and that's kinda it. He's such a blank it feels intentional. Perhaps he has his own goals and is hiding them?

Part 3 - He's Either Holding Back or He's Fucking Useless

Yea not gonna sugarcoat this. There has to be some sort of big reveal of Hazard's true power in later episodes, or this dude's so weak it's laughable to think he's supposed to be a threat.

I mean, Agent has a toolbar that makes him a Mini-Animator, and he can pause anything and anyone. Ballista can shapeshift his body and pull weapons out of his ass. Primal has a stronger form that can pick up a rhino without difficulty, and he probably has more.

Hazard?

He, uh... is good at dodging. He also has this one Shock Sign that killed a bird. Yeah.

Ngl if this is all Hazard has then it's impossible for me to see him as a threat on par with the other mercs, or even Victim. Hell, I wouldn't even be able to see him as above the Stick Gang in strength, with how slow Orange was in that scene compared to his fights in the AvM Shorts.

So yeah, on top of possibly hiding his true personality/hidden motives, Hazard was most likely holding back heavily in Wanted, which only makes him more mysterious.

Part 4 - The End

So, this is kinda it. Was Part 1 all overthinking, or did I get a few things right? Is Hazard actually hiding something, or does he only show little personality because none of his scenes let him show off anything? Is he holding back his true strength, or is he actually weak?

Frankly idk, but I am excited to see where things go with this guy, as he has tons of potential.

Let's say you pay him less attention than usual — you're stuck on the TV or working on your laptop rather than making conversation or cuddling — he may get worried that something had happened or that he's upset you in some way. Rather than being selfish, he would take care of you by making you food or bringing you something to drink or snack on to the table so you don't have to get up when working (he wants you to feel better). Let's say you had been spending more time with or talking to someone else and smiling and laughing a lot more with them than you had done with him this day, he would feel insecure about himself — like do you think he's boring? Do you think you two spend too much time together? Does he lack charisma? He's a bit more mature than the others so he's more likely to talk to you about but will try to sound as not needy for you as possible so you guys can communicate and compromise.

You were watching The Package (great film) on the sofa alone, not asking him if he wanted to join or what movie you two should watch, and he had gained the confidence to sit down next to you and lightly put his chin on your shoulder.

"Are you hungry? Because I can make you something to eat if you want," before you can answer he continues, trying to get you to look him in the eyes, "Or do you want coffee or tea maybe? Iced? Hot?"

"I'm a bit dehydrated actually. Hm hot green tea sounds nice about now."

"Okay, Love. I'm gonna be back soon and you're gonna have the green tea of your life," he felt how his cheeks were flaming by the end of his speech from embarrassment, thinking he sounded too desperate.

"Thank you, Babyboy," you kissed his pink cheek.

He was so happy to make you the cup of tea!

As the relationship progresses I see him continuing doing this, and if your sadistic ass still doesn't give him attention after all the good he does, he'll overanalyse the situation to figure out why he deserves being ignored. Give him a sign you're not upset with him. A quick peck is enough for him to smile. But I also think eventually he'll feel comfortable and confident enough to try to get your attention in less perfect-son-in-law ways (only on occasion if he's tipsy or particularly horny and needs your attention more than usual though). Like he might put his hand on your thigh at a restaurant and move higher and higher until you warn him you'll punish him once you get home.

Ten. Is. Shameless. Periodt. He'd do whatever the fuck he wants whenever he wants to get your attention. You'd be quite amazed at how far he'd go to get your focus. Casually stripping off his clothes in front of you when you're trying to work from home? Put your hand on his neck when your talking on the phone? Pull out a vibrator to use without asking for permission? While purposely looking at you with a smirk? Whisper dirty shit in your ear when you're having a dinner with loved ones? He'd do it all. It wouldn't matter how lewd it were as long as he got the attention he desired in the end.

"Damn, this dick is so good, Mistress," he moaned loudly, referring to the dildo he was bouncing on without your permission.

You were trying to ignore his groaning and his sinful stare because the online meeting was still getting wrapped up (you had mic off).

"So damn good, way better than your strap, Mistress," he threw his head back and looked at you with a fucked out expression.

The meeting finally came to an end and you put down the laptop screen and turned to him, "Excuse me?"

His reply was short but powerful, "You're excused."

And that was why his ass was red hours later.

But he isn't a freak all the time! He can be really sweet and adorable if he wants to too. Like he will talk to one of his fat cats and be like "—— isn't giving me all their attention how mean, right?" And then pout with the cat (Idk his cats' names💀) next to his head as I'm giving you kitten eyes. He only acts this way with his partner.

"——, please pay attention to meee~" he whined with his chin on your shoulder, staring at the side of your face longingly.

"What, Baby?" you look at him.

"Do you wanna cuddle or fuck or watch a movie or something?"

He'd never change methods: acting naughty or cute is always successful. He loves all the consequences of acting like a slut to get your attention and whenever he feels super cute he likes to act that way too. I think that as you explore together in the bedroom (kitchen, balcony, bathroom etc) he will want to try exploring outside of your home too — it'll all start with him being very needy from you telling him all the nasty things you want to do to him once you get back home from the party, and he will instead grind up on you or join group conversations and say double entendres that everybody else understands as neutral, normal things to say but that you know he secretly means something dirty. And if you tell him you like that he will continue getting your attention this way. He's so creative he can come up with all types of ways to act nasty. Eating a very inappropriately shaped food (even if it's a fruit) while making eye contact. Dancing sexily in front of anyone. Touch you under the table. Draw something that could be interpreted as sexually explicit and show it to you. Call you Mistress in inappropriate settings when nobody else hear. He loves attention and there's no way you're not giving it to him.

If you still didn't give him the attention he wanted, he'd become extremely pouty. Why won't you just give him attention? If he were desperate enough, he'd sit on your lap. But only if he were feeling daring or passionate enough for you to show him some love.

He sighed frustratedly and looked at you before he made his way to sit on your thighs.

You were shocked at the fact that your non-affectionate boyfriend made a move that was bold — in his case even kissing your cheek in public was considered bold.

"Mommy?" he whispered in your ear.

"Yes?"

He looked at you in the eyes, "Can we go home, please? I'm tired and I wanna sleep."

Give him attention! He's a good boy and deserves it! Kiss his hands, cheeks and lips in front of others if necessary. He's your good Babyboy, you should be nice to him. Don't be a meanie :c

Xuxi craves attention, whether it's verbal or physical. He enjoys being called handsome just as much as he enjoys being choked like a bitch. But he hates it if you give some of the attention he's supposed to have to someone else, e.g. if you were to call someone else 'handsome' especially, he'd feel a little butt hurt. He's confident, but he's still capable of feeling jealousy. Although he's jealous, he's still confident he can get your attention back. He's so handsome, how can he not? He wouldn't take it seriously, rather playfully or even silly. There are three key ways it could go:

1. Tease you

"Mami," he whispered darkly into your ear, "I'm hard."

You finally looked at him.

"Can we go and fuck? Please, Mami, I want you to choke me and handcuff me and call me yours."

"We're in public."

"So what? Let's go to the car, I always keep toys there for situations like this one."

"Such a slut."

He smirked, "Oh yes."

2. Confront you

"Talk to me, Mami, not him/her/them."

He whined annoyingly.

"How can you even think of looking at someone else when you have the most handsome boy in the world in front of you?"

3. Flirt with someone else in front of you

"I can play your game too, Mami," he winked before making his way to someone half as good-looking as you.

He didn't cheat, of course, but he managed to frustrate you enough to make him get on his knees for you in just a few minutes.

He's sure of himself and doesn't even feel threatened when you give someone else attention, just a little jealous because he wants you all for himself. He'd think of getting your attention as a fun activity. Like a game where he tries to get you to break from the act and when he does — he never loses this game — you reward him. Victory tastes good.

姐姐 (jiejie) = older sister

Angel is rarely naughty, but if he's desperate for your attention, he might consider taking that path (not with the goal of having sex but rather just make you look at him or cuddle him or something). He wouldn't do something super naughty, but something bad enough to mildly shock you. His mind would go to something like 'accidentally' or 'innocently' touching you in a place he shouldn't touch you when you're around other people. He'd do it for your attention, and maybe because he'd want other people to see that you're obviously taken.

He looked at you for a second, contemplating whether or not he should put his hand on your inner thigh.

When he heard you laugh at someone's joke, he made up his mind and put his hand there.

You looked down at it and then at his face.

His expression was blank, but you saw right through it and smirked.

"Are you jealous, Prince?"

OR

Xiaojun had been shopping earlier this week and he decided to put on the shirt he liked the most before making his way to you, hoping you'd think he looked good.

"姐姐, I missed you," he hugged you.

"I missed you too, Prince."

He smiled into your neck.

If you still didn't give him the attention he'd hoped for (whether he'd tried to get it by shocking you by being naughty or by acting cute and sweet), he'd get upset since he can get a bit sensitive and sentimental. He really cares for you and your relationship so if you act indifferent at his attempts to get your attention, he'd think that you were questioning his love for you, or his cuteness, or that you were hinting at a breakup. The ache could be too big for him to stay composed, making him go and cry somewhere alone.

He excused himself and left.

Knowing he's sensitive and usually doesn't leave suddenly, you follow him.

When you found him you saw that he had tears in his eyes.

"Baby, what happened?" you asked.

"Why are you acting like I'm invisible. Like I'm not there? Like I'm no one?" his voice cracked and tears feel.

After that one sad incident, he'd expect you to not ignore him in the future since you now know he's vulnerable and gets affected by it. And so if you happen to ignore him like that again — even after the incident — he'd become more of a wreck than last time.

Hendery is a sweetheart. Your attention is always highly appreciated, but it's also expected from you (How can you possibly ignore a loud sunshine?). If you didn't give him his usual amount of attention he'd think you were in a bad mood and thus needed to be brightened up. He'd always be very nice at first and try to impress you with his cute and thoughtful antics, by saying something kind, being caring, giving you something thoughtful or pink.

"Mama, I got us food. Let's watch Netflix," he beamed and held your favorite dish up like it was a prize.

If you didn't return the enthusiasm his big smile would decrease.

But if you pushed it and still didn't give him what he wanted, he'd continue being optimistic and give it another try. If his thoughtful sweetie side didn't work then his energetic crackhead side certainly would. He'd say or act weird or dramatic in order to get you to crack. It's very hard not to smile when he's being his odd, loud self and he knows it; he's a natural born entertainer and uses it to his advantage.

"Throw it back!" he voice cracked out while dancing stupid.

"I shake it off, shake it off—"

"Don't leave me dancing alone. Come on, Mamaaa—" he nagged and tried to drag you to the dance (kitchen) floor.

If you give him what he wants in the end, he'd love to fight for your attention. But if you don't reward him attention, then he'd just feel like you don't fit with him. His personality should be able to gain your attention easily. So if it doesn't then there's clearly something wrong. He'd talk to you about it before making any snap decisions.

another thing about astarion's character that i really really love is during the cutscene at camp where, after making the correct dialogue choices, he confides in you that for the past 200 years he has sought company through sex, however after meeting your character he realises that he just simply wanted somebody there for him. being hypersexual as a trauma response is fairly common in real life, so adding it to him makes him seem like such a deep and complicated character. i find it so interesting that astarion is the only character in the whole of the game that you can have this unique 'not platonic yet not romantic something inbetween' relationship with. it's a really sweet moment as he's removing his tough persona and is just being honest with you, and it shows how complex of a character he is.

i finally want to take a moment to fangirl and just talk about neil newbon and how be ABSOLUTELY deserved performance of the year at this year's game awards. he's so incredible as astarion, like everything he says makes me feel an emotion (whether it's heartbroken, humoured or flustered as hell) and i have never gotten that in a va performance before. also, the fact that when he was recording his voice lines the crew had to tell him to calm tf down is so funny, and like i mentioned earlier the fact that he did the crying cutscene in one take is so ?!?!?!?! like SIR oh my god?? he 100% deserves that award, and his acceptance speech alone proves it. plus i love him so much for coming up with the goosetarion meme i love it so much it makes me want to explode

Thoughts about YR S2 Trailer

Okay so the trailer is yet to release, and I have seen some discourse around the possibilities in the trailer so this is basically just a rant about it.

Like there are many people who are worried about the trailer being misleading as in the case of S1 trailer and I just want to say: that's kinda the point? And I don't mean it in "Haha I want everyone to overanalyse every detail and suffer because I'm a maniac" kind of way. I mean, trailers are supposed to be a glimpse of the story, and a well-crafted trailer follows the concept of "show, not tell". It's not supposed to just info-dump basically the entire plot for the viewers(looking at you Netflix teen rom-com trailers). It's supposed to weave out a possibility(true or false) out of the source material to intrigue the general audience(and in case of movies/ TV shows with multiple installments, dedicated viewers too). A good trailer will not only intrigue the viewers to deduce their own possibilities, but it will also convince them to watch the show and find out if they are right or not.

And in my opinion, alluding to a particular theme in the trailer which may or may not be actually present in the show is a clever marketing and storytelling tactic. Let me take the example of another Netflix show and its latest season, The Umbrella Academy. Netflix created so much hype around a set of another superheroes, The Sparrow Academy for S3. It was evident in their Instagram posts, and most importantly the trailer. The trailer mostly alluded to the "Umbrellas Vs Sparrows showdown" plot, but the actual show was wildly different from that. Most of the Sparrows weren't even a part of majority of the plot, and there were many bigger plot points than the whole Umbrellas Vs Sparrows thing. It's clever from a storytelling standpoint because your viewers have assumptions about the plot but BAM! you hit them with entirely different twists and turns, which adds to the impact you want to have on the viewers. And it's even better from a marketing standpoint because you create buzz around the show before its release based on a completely different plot point but then the viewers are introduced to new themes and it keeps the buzz around even after the release of the show because there's just lot to unpack(like we still analyse the shit out of YR). And I really like this thing, watching well-crafted trailers and then watching the show is like seeing a magic trick and wondering how the hell does this work and then you find out the whole picture of how the trick is done and you feel even more awestruck. It's exactly that feeling.

Like I can understand many people not wanting to get "clickbait" in a way by getting something they don't like and trust me, I get you. I have also been disappointed by trailers. But this is YR. I trust Lisa, I trust the team because they have blown us away the first time and based on what we know about S2, I'm sure it will happen once again.

Also, I've seen some people talking about Simon being barely there in the S1 trailer and Simon/Omar possibly having lesser screen time in S2. But for me, it was again a clever move. Simon, from a plot perspective, was the catalyst, the Ace of the deck, the constant that brought out a whole different outcome to the equation of the story in S1. Simon and his character arc was the driving force of the plot being the way it is, otherwise the show very well could have been just a Elite Boarding School drama with Wilhelm being in a possible love triangle with Felice and some other girl(but again, Lisa's writing is not like that but still it could have been a possibility). You don't give away the Ace in the beginning of the game, you keep it till the end. Simon's involvement gave a new direction to the story, which I think was the impact the showrunners wanted to save for the release. We all know how important he was to the plot in S1, and even if he's barely there in S2 trailer as well, it doesn't mean Simon/Omar has lesser screen time. It means that he has a bigger role to play in the story. And he's obviously one-half of the lifeline of the show, Wilmon. It would be plain stupid to reduce his screen time or him not having a prominent story arc.

And to the people who are going to dive straight into the show without watching the trailer: I have so much respect for you istg. It's an experience I really want to have but I have the patience of a grasshopper so my impatient ass won't be able to resist watching the trailer. Teach me your ways😩

Plus I like having my assumptions challenged in a way. It's like having your worldview constantly challenged, except the worldview is based on a fictional world in this case.

top 5 WORST MOVIES EVER!!!

Uh oh um. So I gotta say that I'm not that much of a cinephile or a hater when it comes to movies because I watch the vast majority of them with friends and that improves my watching experience greatly. That being said I think I do have 5 movies that I have beef with (might be controversial)

1. Starting off with BATTLE ROYALE (2000) I don't care this movie sucks and I have a personal vendetta against it. I was 15 years old, watching and overanalysing squid game because I liked it, enjoying life, when my dad came to me and started full on SHITTING on the squid and saying how it SUCKS BALLS AND ASS and that it's a CHEAP COPY OF BATTLE ROYALE and that he's disappointed in me because I'm such a smart girl and I'm enjoying such a trash show. So I was really angry because wtf he tore my hyperfixation apart and so I watched battle royale out of spite and God......... I did not enjoy it in the slightest and I still harvest nothing but negative feelings towards it. From what I can remember the characters were Nothing, the action was disappointing, the point was made 10 minutes in and the rest was filled with nonsense. I don't care for the themes of this movie and I don't want to make sense of them. I was just angry at my dad for saying I'm stupid and then directing me to a movie that doesn't even have a single character with a compelling motivation that i care about and shoves relationship talk in the middle without it being rewarding in the slightest.

2. Queen Margot 1994. Sorry I'm trying to enjoy the story without incest porn in the middle but this movie doesn't let me

3. Thor the dark world... Thor is my favourite avenger and ragnarok is my favourite mcu movie so I don't like the direction of this one very much. I just think that Thor and Jane don't work in the first two movies and basing Thors entire motivation on her when the relationship is not very compelling in the first place is not a good recipe for a movie. Loki felt much more like the main character and I already forgot who the villain and what the plot was. Ragnarok is the only good Thor movie 😔

4. Ummmm red white and royal blue??? Idk I went into it thinking it would be at least funny but it was so shallow and cliche and had the most overused gay archetypes and character arcs and the politics were funny in how they sucked and the main couple just reminded me of Charles and Navarre for some reason and it made me very sad and angry because they had NO CHEMISTRY WHATSOEVER!!!! And. Yea. That's it I guess

5. Ok this is gonna be veryyyy controversial but I did not like the ragad movie at all for the simple reason that I do not see how ragad can be performed in a different medium. Stoppard may have directed it but Roth and Oldmas performances were so unenthusiastic and it lacked what made the actual play so great. I don't know. Maybe I'm missing something but I really don't like this movie and this letterboxd review really sums it up for me

Hello tumblr. I've decided I want to use this blog to ramble about things that interest me and random brain thoughts. Prepare yourself.

'DEEP' vrs 'SHALLOW' media.

So, the way Im going to define 'deep' in this context is....rather literal? As in, for a piece of media to be 'deep' it needs to have multiple layers, or levels, of understanding. You can enjoy the piece as a fun entertaining time, but if you start 'digging in' to it, you reveal something more meaningful- usually some sort of commentary on the nature of existance or the human experience. See the above silly puppets for example.

(Another deep favourite of mine - Princess Tutu. That shit goes hard for a magical girl anime about having ballet powers. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but just know that it's one of those shows that touched my actual soul. Seriously. Watch it.)

Something I haven't seen a lot of people mention is that if a piece of media is *obviously* about some important, meaningful thing...then it's not deep. That's not to say it's bad! But if it doesn't require any digging, it's not deep. ...right?

Now, it makes sense to say that the opposite of 'deep' is 'shallow'. That word has a lot of negative implications, so its not quite right, but bare with me. Some media for sure is 'shallow' in the sense that it really doesn't offer anything but entertainment (which is not a bad thing). But there are stories out there that are plenty meaningful, but aren't necessarily 'deep'. They're... to- the- point, upfront. They have something to say and they're not hiding it. I think that can be really good, as it's less likely the message of the piece will be lost. On the other hand, these stories can come across as on-the-nose or preachy. It's all a matter of balance.

I had media to put here in this category, but for some reason it's left my brain. I want to say the newer blade runner movie? I think it was pretty obvious going in what the messages would be and it delivered on that promise. I loved it, but it was in essence, a very typical distopian sci-fi that explored the things distapioan sci-fi is good at exploring. Compare that to the fist, which lead you to believe it might be a standered noir thriller with sci-fi flavour (and can be enjoyed as much) but also speaks to the wonder and horror of science and human innovation, the definition of humanity and intelligence, who gets to have rights, who is considered human, and a bunch more fun stuff. But I'm winging this part right now so I might be way off the mark. What do you guys think?

I also just realised while writing this... a lot of 'deep' stories are ones that are set up to look like they belong to a certain genre, then deliberately go against or go beyond the tropes and story beats expected of that genre. Fun stuff, I love it.

Basically I like to over think and overanalyse and I recently realised...maybe some of y'all do too. And if I get media recommendations at the same time, well, that's a bonus. Let me know some of your fave deep/ not deep / shallow media please 🙏😊

SHE'S NOT A BAD KID SHE HAD TO DO IT SHE HAD TO KILL POP -> ayano is back, somehow. shintaro brought her. even with everything going on, i wonder if kenjirou would see this and wonder If ayano is here, can't ayaka? kenjirou sees all his kids here and sees the atrocities he's done in the name of the love for his wife. was it really worth it? would she want you, like this? once you go, who is taking care of the kids? they look grown. but they aren't. you're fading away and your kids stand above you and watch you. and they have the audacity and humanity to mourn you. if he spoke, he could say he loves them or better, say he's sorry. but he does neither and then he's dead. and on the other side there is her, and she won't be as merciful as they were. she will make him pay for what he's done through her rejection.

(coughs) anyways when the holder of a snake in the real world passes, they get swallowed back to the daze with all the ones stuck there, i guess to reclaim the snake? kenjirou and ayaka walk away together so one could assume that's what happens cuz the daze sure as hell isnt releasing the people inside, so its not like just cuz kenjirous dead, ayaka will be released. but also, kenjirou dies precisely cuz clearing leaves his body, so why would the daze open? it has no snake to reclaim!!! ayaka and kenjirou would NOT reunite!!! Unless ayaka is released?? maybe in the specific scenario where a snake holder dies BUT the snake gets out of the body, maybe their counterpart inside the daze gets out and both souls die together this time for reals??? erm. idk. seems over complicated and hey why are you looking at me weird. this is normal im not overanalysing.

erm... anyways, either way kenjirou and ayaka DO reunite somehow?? and its funny to imagine kenjirou and ayaka in the daze going thru a divorce arc i guess!!

im not sure WHAT my ideal ending would be. but i sure as hell wish he had a moment where he's fully himself again, aside the bit in the anime where he's like "thanks for watching me all these years" to saeru. like that bit is good i like it but i wish there was something more jarring and real about it. i wish he felt guilt and horror and saw what he collaborated in doing, i wish to know how conscious he was about it. i want him to see his kids and wish he could stay with them but know theyre better off without him. i wish he saw haruka&takane and what hes done to them and feel nauseous. kenjirou fascinates me he's such an interesting guy

     When doing ships, I find that some come to me easily while others require more pondering. This one came to me instantly. Upon first and perhaps even second glance, people might not think you and Changbin have much in common. You're a cheerleader for the people you love, and you'd do anything for them. I think Changbin needs someone to see him as he is and love him to death for it. Although your personalities come with very different styles of communication and approaches to problems, the love and dedication to one another would win out during any conflict. today was a shit day.

scratch that. the past few days have all been somewhat shit days and now its all accumulated. you've being feeling unreasonably anxious and paranoid for somewhat around a week. you have not a single clue so as to why you're suddenly overanalysing everything, and it's unfortunately taking a toll on your daily activities. you're extremely unmotivated to even do things you like, and simple day- to- day tasks somehow seem so difficult to achieve.

you couldn't even make yourself a cup of coffee correct today.

to top it all off, asking for help has always seemed like such a daunting task. there's the constant fears of being judged, or somehow forcing the other person to help clean your mess when ideally you should be the one doing it.

today though, you were tired. you were tired of the never- ending thoughts, and feeling helpless. feeling stuck. you really needed help.

right after you'd come home, you were feeling rather overwhelmed and very uncomfortable, so in the height of your emotions you left your boyfriend a text and asked him if he could manage to come home earlier than usual today. he hadn't responded, probably because he does have a pretty packed schedule these days.

but there was no harm in waiting a little right?

which brings you here.

you've been waiting for him for a little over an hour at this point; just mindlessly scrolling through your socials, watching anything that pops up on your youtube recommendations, to give yourself something else to focus on other than your thoughts. you were extremely tired. the momentary comfort of your fluffiest pjs, your couch and your blanket was enough for you to drift off to sleep.

unfortunately for you, your body wanted rest, but your brain refused. your doubts and insecurities seemingly followed you into your sleep as well, creating vivid visions, that feel so real. you can't quite differentiate the dream world from the waking world, it all feels so real. you feel the fear creep into you, and you feel every single negative emotion that you'd been attempting to avoid till this point.

you're so helpless, your breathing is erratic with each passing moment, and-

"y/n?"

you're shooting up from your previous position as you gasp for air.

"woah woah be careful, what's going on?" you hear his footsteps as he rushes to you.

his voice seems so faint and faraway, but you're sure he's right next to you.

"look at me,"

"deep breaths, come on follow me,"

and for the next several minutes you sit there mimicking his actions and counts as he guides you through breathing exercises. as you feel your breathing go back to normal, you gain a little more control over your senses. your eyes gaze over his features, which makes him smile.

"there you are, hi," a kiss to your forehead as you muster out a hushed greeting.

"it was just a bad dream love, you're okay;"

"do you wanna talk about it?" he means no harm with his question, but it's really all it takes for your brain to flash back to your nightmare and all the incidents and feelings that led upto it. it causes tears to rush into your eyes and you can see he visibly panics. but he's pulling you into his embrace the moment you let out the first sob, occasionally tightening his grip on you, squeezing your sides just a little to assure you of his presence.

"i'm right here, i've got you," he keeps chanting over and over as you cry your heart out.

after you're done crying, he takes you to the bathroom, helps you wash the remains of your tears away. he makes you your favourite tea, brushes your hair for you, tucks you into bed. he then rushes to freshen up himself so that you two can finally talk.

as soon as he's back on the bed, you're back in his embrace, little circles drawn on your arm with his fingers, each intensifying the feeling of being loved and heard and cared of more than the previous one, as he listens to every word you have to say.

he makes it so easy to, just talk.

you don't have to keep your walls up when he's around, you don't have to pretend to be okay. his little nods and 'go on, let it all out's', his little caresses, his gentleness, his care, it's all so comforting to you.

"i'm so proud of you for letting all that out," he pulls you into another hug and pats your back.

"it's okay if you have a bad day. it's okay if that one bad day turns to many bad days. happens to everyone, happens to me too,"

"sometimes we just need the bad days so when the good days come by, we can enjoy them to the fullest. bad emotions are there so you don't take the good ones for granted,"

"you can always come to me and talk about anything. maybe you don't want to talk, that's okay too. just tell me when there's something bothering you. i'm always yours to talk to, to cry to, to share the bad days with, you know that right?"

he presses a kiss into your hair, smiling when he feels you nod against his chest. he then changes your guys' position so you're both lying on the bed.

"d'you wanna try sleeping again? are you still scared?" his voice is soft against the shell of your ear.

in response, you snuggle more into him and tighten your own grip around him, squeezing just a little to remind yourself of the feeling of safety and comfort he provides you.

"i don't have anything to be scared of,"

"i've got you, right?"

and when he sees his favourite smile adorn your face, the one he'd been craving to catch the tiniest glimpse of all night, he smiles equally as big, his heart doing flips in its place.

"you've got me, always got me,"

a kiss to your nose.

This my friends is what you call reading way too far into something you hate

If you dont like jse, fair enough. But you dont have to shove into the main tag that you think hes an evil malicious knieving clout chaser for... doing a charity event??

Youre upset because a man who held a charity event is sad he didnt reach the goal... what? You are upset, because he mentioned feeling sad that his charity event didnt reach the goal? Wouldnt you be? If you held your own chariry event and set and goal that wasnt reached would you really be saying you wouldnt feel an ounce of dissapointment?

And this is way overanalysing one sentance. "I wish that bigger youtubers had participated to help out with my charity event, some who said that they would chose not to" is not the same as "boo hoo other charity events did better than mine boo hoo i want money". he didnt even mention the other youtubers charity streams like teamseas and matpats saint jude stream, for all we know there could easily have been like massive youtubers who said theyd endorse it and just didnt show any sort of support for anyones charity events. He couldve been showing some shade to felix, his personal friend, for not getting involved in the charity stream. He couldve been referancing anyone but your mind jumps straight to the worse-case scenario because you dislike someone and their fandom. And he didnt moan and whine about not hitting the goal to guilt trip the audience, he just states hes still proud of the amount they have but it doesnt match some targets theyve hit in the past and he feels some people he was in contact with about it didnt contribute as much as they couldve.

Get off your high horse and stop overanalysing people who are just talking about their feelings. And clickbait? Youre really complaining about clickbait as if mo other youtuber but sean has done a clickbait new years video? CRANKGAMEPLAYS LITTERALLY MADE A VIDEO CALLED "GOODBYE" THAT LOOKS LIKE AN "IM QUITTING YOUTUBE" VIDEO TO SAY GOODBYE TO 2021. I could easily overanalyse everything marliplier says in his videos and make him out like a selfish awful person, or twist crankgameplays words to make him a malicious evil person if i didnt like him. Why even put this in the main jse tag unless you yourself are "clout chasing" like you claim he is. I could easily twist your intentions as much as you can twist recontextualised words in his videos.

Okay so some people (read: one person, and it may have been jokingly) asked me to continue so y'all Imma break down some of my favorite scenes that I'm thinking of off the top of my head:

Starting off with episode 1:

holy hell so many SO MANY scenes but i'm going to start with the scene where Pablo's men come to kill Vincenzo.

Right before this we have the shot with Vincenzo sitting alone on his couch. He's thinking. Close-up on the lighter and all that (SERATONIN). Then parallel to the dark, empty same room, it's nighttime.

Now we've seen so little of Vincenzo but we know he's clever, and we also know that if he was sleeping, we would get that shot. Camera isn't here to trick us (well, not yet anyways), the camera is here to trick them. They think he's sleeping. He's not.

And the shot when he's coming out of the bathroom: SO MANY THINGS HERE:

- first of all, stunning, gorgeous, brilliant.

- secondly, let's talk wardrobe, because this is what I live for rn. The costume design in this show good lord:

- He's in pyjama's. GOOD GOD HE IS IN PJ'S. Why is this such a big deal to me? Think of James Bond movies, or really any movie with a similar scene. The assailant would be dressed in a suit or at least daytime clothes. So they could leave after. But the SHEER AUDACITY of this man showing up in his silks, sweeping the robe wide around him when he spins, and then shooting his would-be killers without changing his expression, not even BLINKING when the gun goes off (idk how sjk does this time after time but that's massive testament to his acting as well).

- the pj's are so symbolic of his character. This shit is his life. He knew it was coming, he didn't give any shits. It wasn't hurried, he didn't at the last minute hide pillows under the blankets: no no no. BOY WAS WAITING UP FOR THESE DUDES and fully was ready to just go back to sleep after. Gives no shits. It's kill or be killed, so he's adapted and accepted it's his life. Later in the show when they're betrayed, Cha-young asks Vincenzo if this (them being betrayed) doesn't bother him.

"I'm used to it." is his expressionless answer. GOD. So genius.

Now i don't like talking about this because I don't want to spoil for anyone who hasn't seen the show so SPOILER WARNING for the early episodes IM SERIOUS LOOK AWAY.

so Junwoo. What caught my eye in episode 4 was not only his shirts but the angle at which he is shot at. Now this might just be me reading into it but i don't think so. Everything (mostly) is deliberate in this show, and shots are so carefully chosen i refuse to believe it's a mistake.

Before filming, camera angles are measured in reference to actors and the scene, to get their "good side" or to capture the feel of the scene and whatnot etc. SO tell me I'm crazy when all of a sudden we're no longer getting these simple, leveled shots of junwoo, but all of a sudden the angle is lower, or higher, we see him from what I feel is close to cha-young's eye level, and the shadow and lighting in the scene gives him a sharper profile, highlights the fact that he's buff.

I remember saying out loud to myself while watching for the first time "why is this random intern dude so buff" and then putting it down initially to just the actor being buff. And then I was wondering why they wouldn't just cast someone whose body fit the personality a bit more.

And then the end of the episode came and i instantly got it. That simple change in shot forces you to focus more on that character, even if it's irrelevant or brief, that character is now in the back of my mind. and as the blur subsides at the end of the episode and he's revealed, IT"S A SLOW SHIFT IN BLUR, but you KNOW for a good part of it, who it is. And during the shift you have time to think about that scene, or any scene with him, but you look and you think "oh shit. I should have known."

phenmominal. I love that so much.

And (last one okay sorry i know these long posts are probably annoying) I mentioned in the last post about the camera being the narattor. Don't believe me just yet?

Let's look at the scene where we find out Mr. Nam has been listening to their plan the whole time (episode 4 i think?). You think nothing of it because the whole scene is shot like a normal scene, you genuinely believe that the characters you see are the only characters in the scene. And because that's what they also believe, and we're still getting to know them, that makes sense. We see what they see from episodes 1-4 because after that point, everything is revealed, and we know everything (basically) we need to know about these characters, and now the show can really begin.

So when Mr. Nam pops up, yes, it's comedic, but you're also kind of startled because it's been hidden from you too, and it's yet again another warning: Pay attention. There's more going on than what you see.

SO BRILLIANT. SO ASJDKHASLKJD.

I might be overanalysing okay but I've wanted a show this ingenious for my entire existence it's so goddamn perfect.
