Tsukutabe favourite scenes - Episode 1
This post is inspired by @littleragondin who had done a series of posts of their fave scenes from Tsukutabe (She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat)!
I thought it'd be fun to do the same except I'm probably unable to choose just one from each episode… So I will rank my top 1-3 scenes! (And of course, thank you so much to @furritsubs for translating and subbing this show - Your efforts have brought me so much joy!).
#2: Nomoto having her love for cooking framed as something she should be doing for a man (or child)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nomoto receives a comment tying her worth to her capacity to provide for a man or child. From Nomoto's reaction, it must be an all-too-common occurrence for her.
The music here is pensive and troubling, and her face expressionless - a stark contrast to the opening scene where the sound is lively and fun, and she's bright and joyful.  Both times, she's doing something she loves, and you can see she's so caught up in cooking the frustration away here that she doesn't even realise she's made too much minced pork. She loves cooking, and right now, she's not enjoying it.
This is also the first time the show touches upon society's harsh expectations on women, paving way for the later reveal of Kasuga's painful and stifling childhood.
As an aside, I appreciate that Sayama did not play along with their manager's comments to Nomoto. However, it's interesting that she didn't say anything to counter him either. By staying silent or ignoring it, she's complicit in perpetuating their manager's gendered views. Makes sense - they're in the workplace, their (male) manager is their superior, and such views on women can be the norm. Whether Sayama (or Nomoto) speak up or not, it's a lose/lose.
#1: Nomoto's face journey as she watches Kasuga eat (for the first time)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here, we can see Nomoto's growing discomfort with Kasuga's silence. She's used to people openly and loudly applauding her food (both online and in-person) - and used to people twisting her love for cooking into what it's not.
Yet Kasuga wordlessly eats. And eats. And eats. And Nomoto remembers the reason she cooks in the first place. Nomoto is stunned, and overwhelmed, and holding back happy tears. I love the journey Nomoto's face takes as she makes this realisation. It's as if watching Kasuga eat this first time has mended her heart from the pain of earlier (scene #2 above).
In the end, Kasuga simply appreciates Nomoto's meal and thanks her. And that's all Nomoto needs.

DannyMay 2023. Day Twenty-seven
“Rings”
Ao3
Summary: Danny and Death talk, in a mostly official capacity.
Danny swung his legs back and forth, restless as he sat on the railing o his balcony in Pariah’s- his castle, Danny’s, the King’s.
Clockwork had told him he would meet someone here, and that he better be dressed the part of the King. He had said it with a smile, though, and eased Danny’s worry.
But since he couldn’t just be mysterious and also had to be cryptic, he had then said it was someone Danny had already met, twice.
Prodding and asking got him nowhere after that so Danny dropped it and got ready, wearing his galaxy-print cape (with accurate, moving stars!), the Ring of Rage in hand and the Crown o Fire resting atop his head, its flames licking the air with a constant, soothing crackling.
“Hey, you waited for me!”
Danny turned around and had to blink to clear his eyes, because for a second he thought Sam was here but- no, this wasn’t Sam at all.
“Usually it’s the other way around.” Said the- girl? Woman? Said the goth, because that she was, wearing an all-black outfit from combat boots to top hat and umbrella (maybe it was raining where she had been?), along with what Danny was sure was an Egyptian symbol on her left eye and another that she wore in a collar hanging on her chest.
“Oh, uh, hi. You are- the person Clockwork told me about?” Danny said, and couldn’t help but make it a question at the end.
“Yes, Danny, that’s me.” She said simply, and didn’t elaborate only smiled at him some more.
Danny looked at her for a few more, awkward seconds, and then-
“Ah.” He gaped at her as recognition swept through him. A steady, unmoving presence, a soothing, kind voice that calmed him down even as he was torn apart, a hand taking his, ready to welcome him, except-
Except.
“Hey…” He greeted her anew.
“Hey.” Death answered.
-
“Uh, so… I don’t mean to be rude or anything,” Danny started after a bit of small talk. Death had joined him in the railing, picking a purple flower and adorning her hair with it, “but, well Clockwork told me to ‘dress the part’ as King, so I don’t think this is just a social visit, right?”
Death chuckled at him, “You’re right, dad didn’t just call us here to become friends, even if it’s nice to see you again.”
“Your dad called? But it was Clockw- gramps is a father?!” Danny exclaimed, shocked into using the nickname –the title, really– that he reserved for the privacy of his mind and Clockwork’s lair. “But that means-” His eyes widened like saucer and he felt his jaw drop in horror.
“I see you have connected the dots.” Death said, clearly amused.
“I didn’t connect shit!” Danny hurried to say, mortified and blushing a vibrant green. “In fact! I am autistic, which, in case you don’t know, is a learning disability which makes it entirely possible for me to not have figured anything out about my grandpa that could potentially change the way I see him- stop laughing!”
What had started as repressed giggles had turned into joyful cackles and Death’s smile split her face in half.
“We have business to attend! Royal duty! Formal stuff!”
“Sorry, sorry! It’s just-” Death put a hand on her mouth and calmed herself down with effort. “But you’re right, we should get back in track. Can you show me your ring?”
The change in topic, though appreciated, was so sudden that Danny could only obey bringing his left hand up and staring at the red, angry skull sitting on his finger.
“Do you know the history of this ring, Phantom?” She asked, taking his hand in both of hers.
“Not really, no.” The halfa admitted. “Grandpa- I mean, Clockwork has taught me some stuff, but there’s, like, a lot of stuff he says he still has to teach me.”
“Does he now?” Death said in a tone Danny couldn’t decipher, but when he turned to look at her, she had gotten her amicable expression back in place. “Your ring is a gift.” She finally started. “It used to be mine, one of my tools of office, actually, made to command straggling ghosts that wanted to find their way, and help them move on.
“I gave it to the first Ruler of the Ghost Zone, to officially turn that tear in between realities where souls sought refuge into a proper Afterlife, and end the war between pantheons that wanted it for themselves.”
Danny was paying rapt attention, leaning in closer to Death like a moth to a flame. He had never heard of this; Clockwork had not only been teaching Danny about history, but had sent him on adventures missions across time to gain experience he wouldn’t get in Amity Park, and grandpa was like, very old, so he knew a lot of history and had been there for all of it, so Danny wasn’t surprised he hadn’t been told about this yet; did Pandora know about this, though? Had her pantheon been one of those at war? How long ago had this been? If so, how or why was she here?
Unfortunately, Death didn’t seem about to enter into many details.
“With it, ghosts were allowed to rule over themselves as they saw fit, with no god to oversee them, and the war was over.”
Yeah, he would have to ask grandpa about this.
“That’s… cool. Um, thanks! Really…” Danny stuttered, placing a hand on his nape. “Ah, so…” He didn’t know what she was getting at. “Do you… want it back?” He asked, unsure.
“No, Danny, it’s a gift and it’s now yours.” Death smiled at him kindly. “I’m here to help you with it, actually. May I?”
Nervously, Danny nodded, and Death lifted his hand with hers, and touched the Ring of Rage; Danny saw the skull glow blood red the moment she did, enveloping their joined hands in its eerie light.
“Pariah Dark corrupted it, not long after he took the throne.” Death kept explaining. “Rather than motivate and lead the ghosts, he wanted to control them, bind them to his will.
“That wasn’t the ring’s purpose, I didn’t give it that purpose, so Pariah couldn’t completely overpower it, and instead he let it be a- transmitter for his rage, to make it be felt, to frighten other ghosts into obeying. You have felt it, haven’t you?”
Danny thought of the first time he had put on the Ring, of the furious growl that had reverberated through his head his bones, his core, pushing, demanding something it couldn’t word, its name just out of reach.
Although it wasn’t lie Danny had tried to help it reach out, either. And he now suspected where it had tried to reach.
 A sealed sarcophagus.
“It’s annoying.” He said bluntly. “It’s bothersome and insistent and I already said no, but it keeps on pushing and, honestly, I have been seconds away from chunking it into the sun.”
Death chuckled softly and, finally, covered his hand in both of hers. “That’s what I’m here for.” She clutched at his hands in a tither –yet painless– grip, and the light that filtered through their fingers slowly dimmed out and died.
When she opened her hands again, in Danny’s finger rested an obsidian-black gem with only one reflective face that showed Danny’s own.
Through its serene silence, Danny could feel all the denizens of the Zone, ready and waiting to be rallied around a common cause.

lmao this is funny to me because the "Clocwork is Father Time (of the Endless)" is a thing I've talekd about in the dp server, but only recently did i board the headcanon "he is an awful father, but an amazing grandfather", which is the characterization i've given him here
he loves his adopted grandson so much that he'll deal with his annoying children for him! asdfghjjklñ that's so awful!
i'll be posting this separate once i finish the event

I love Doctor Strange (Comics version) and I really want my MCU friends to like Doctor Strange, but they said, he is immature, arrogant and too prideful and a copy of Tony Stark...(were talking about the MCU here) Anyways, I just want them to open their eyes and appreciate Doctor Strange overall character (Comics version here). But I don't know how to explain it or sum up my thoughts on why I love such a character.
If they don't want to touch comics, then I'm afraid I can't do much to help them realize how much of an altruistic, caring and lovable character he is outside of the MCU. MoM is a complicated movie that only fans are capable of reading into his layers and see his growth as a character. It's understandable in DS1 since it's his origin/self-journey as a hero, but I've had my criticisms towards his characterization since IW (which was a very unpopular opinion when the fics went BOOM). Even NWH, which is a movie that I simply ADORE, didn't spare Stephen's arrogance from murdering his true characterization.
What I caaaan do is offer recs for beginners, as I often do. You can check my guides on my pinned posts (need to update them but I'm working on it asap). But if they don't want to go for a Tonyfication that may appear in v4, I'd go all way down to DODS + Strange v3 + DS v6. I know he isn't the protagonist in Strange v3, but it's part of the story, and maybe seeing how Clea praises Stephen's capacity for love may change their perspective?
I don't know if they're willing to read my articles either but well, they exist for a reason, which is newcomers to have a chance and learn that he isn't exactly what the MCU has been portraying lately.
In any case, they're welcome here if they want to learn more! I too changed my mind on many characters throughout the years and even learned to love them with given time and proper reading. It demands a little bit of effort but this is what I do when I'm hyperfixated on my faves haha
You're also welcome here, we gladly built a safe community to show our love for the disaster wizard 💜 Other than that, this is the farthest my persusion goes haha
I rest my case, your honor.

Do you have any sfw fluff hc's for MusicalJuice? Maybe even light nsfw like kissing, making out, Beej being pretty handy with reader, etc?
I love your writing so much, I wish I was able to write and share my writing like you and others in this fandom!
Hello! I really appreciate that you like my writing, thank you so much! I've honestly never been one to really create and share content outside of little circles of friends, but this fandom has just been so incredible and full of so many amazing people that inspire me every day!
I've always believed that any writing is better than no writing, especially when it comes to fandom. Not all of us have the skill or capacity to be full-fledged fic writers, but that doesn't mean we can't share our little bullet lists and notes app drabbles! You and everyone else can absolutely share anything, and I guarantee that myself and many others will love it.
Now, onto the hc's! I'm gonna throw it under the cut since it's a longer read, and as always I'm using a gender neutral reader ♡
Fluff HC's For Musicaljuice:
Right off the bat, it needs to be said that this guy loves whenever you treat him like a living person. Whether this means serving him his own plate at dinner or offering him a blanket during movie night, he absolutely adores it. At first he thought it was just you forgetting that he wasn't actually alive, but after a while he realized it was just how you showed people you cared about them!
He refuses to admit it, but it took him a ridiculously long time to figure out why every meal or drink you made for him was so much better than anything he or anyone else made. You'd patiently walked him through the steps of making tea just the way he liked it multiple times, but no matter what he did it just didn't taste the same. He'd complained about it to you, and without hesitating you'd offered to always make it for him. That was the moment he realized he was in love with you.
Unfortunately for your kitchen, this revelation was immediately followed up with him making several attempts to return the favor by cooking for you. Attempt is the key word, because nothing he made was edible, he somehow caught your electric kettle on fire, and mysteriously all of your dishcloths have vanished into the ether. The final straw was him putting a metal bowl into your (now deceased) microwave, and electrocuting himself when he reached into the still-powered device to pull the bowl out through the closed door. Once he'd stopped throwing sparks, you'd carefully pulled him into a standing position while informing him that he was forever banned from using your kitchen ever again. Before he could get too upset, however, you'd placed a kiss on his scruffy cheek and thanked him for the effort. His hair didn't lose its pink hue for the rest of the evening.
SPEAKING OF PINK - this guy will start having pink pop up in his hair at the most seemingly random times, and this ratchets up to a 10 once y'all start dating. A simple touch or smile has pink settling into his patches of moss. A kiss or hug sends it up through his beard and into the roots of his hair. The most surefire way to get him to turn completely pink, though, is to use his name - you're the only person he lets call him Lawrence, and it gets an instant reaction every time you do. For so long he'd hated the way his name sounded in the mouths of others, mostly because the only person who ever used it was his mother. But when you say it, it's gentle, warming, like coming home. You don't say it often, preferring to use it only when the moment is right, but when you do it'll result in an immediate hug (and probably more).
Now his hugs? Simply the best. You could be having the shittiest day possible and one long hug from him makes it all better. He loves getting to hug you, no matter the circumstances, and if he can get away with it then he'll be hugging you whenever possible. He also has several preferred hugging methods, that way he can adapt to any situation. He loves to hug you from behind while you're cooking or working on the computer, especially if he can wrap his arms around your waist and bury his face against your neck. Bear hugs where his large frame seems to envelope you completely? He does them daily (oftentimes more than once). Side hugs where he pulls you close and wraps an arm around you are always fair game, especially if you're around others or just chilling on the couch. He loves having you close by and tucked against him, no matter what's going on - any excuse to pull you in for a hug, he'll take it.
Hopefully you don't mind sharing a bed with an octopus, because he'll do his best impression of one every. damn. night. Good luck getting up to use the bathroom at 3am, because this guy isn't gonna let you go easily. Sometimes a kiss to wake him up is enough, but other times you have to elbow him in the ribs or kick him in the shins to finally be released from his grip.
And oh man you better invest in some ear plugs - this guy snores like a freight train, only this freight train has a penchant for settling in right against your damn ear. When he first started sharing a bed with you (long before you guys were dating, completely uninvited) he was silent, hardly daring to breathe lest you decide to kick him out. Eventually, after you'd agreed to let him stay, he started actually sleeping at night. He doesn't really need to, and you suspect he does it because it feels more human, but he insists he gets the "best" dreams about you when he sleeps pressed up against you. You interpret this as sex dreams, especially since he would waggle his eyebrows and make honking noises when he said it, but what he actually had were more like daydreams about being with you and his family for the rest of time. Okay, and also sex dreams. He's a highly sexual being after all, and he does love an orgy.
Once you'd agreed to (read: "given up fighting him on") his sharing your bed, hands would absolutely wander if given half a chance. Whether this is an arm slung a little low around your waist or a leg sticking between your own just a little too much, he'll take what he can get. If you established a hard boundary, however, he was pretty good about not pushing it. As soon as you guys started seeing each other, however, all bets were off - any chance he got, he'd have a hand up your shirt or in between your thighs. He wasn't necessarily trying to start something every time, he just genuinely enjoyed being able to touch you in such an intimate way. It's also not his fault that breathers are warmest at their cores - if your crotch wasn't so damn toasty he wouldn't be putting his hands there! (<- he's lying, that's a lie, he totally would be)
Finally, the thing he's least likely to admit to is that he loves when you're holding him. He loves laying with his head on your lap, or with his back pressed to your front and your arms wrapped securely around his middle. He also loves when you hug him close and let him press his face into your throat - yes he usually has to contort himself to do it, but it feels so nice to simply be held and listen to your heartbeat while ignoring the rest of the world. On his worst days he can always go to you for comfort, and even if he won't necessarily ask you for it directly, it's the one thing he craves most.

Wyll doesn't just deserve more content, he deserves better content, in my humble opinion.
I know a lot of people were concerned about the change of category (is that the proper phrase?) about the Ansur part of his quest but I feel like that part needs changing to a degree. Primarily because it doesn't feel very Wyll specific.
I feel like it focuses more on how the Emperor is a scumbag then anything to do with Wyll.
I'm not a writer by any stretch of the imagination but I feel like you could've still had that confrontation with Ansur and the Emperor and had something that tied to Wyll like after you fight him, maybe Ansur sees some of himself in Wyll - a loyal protector - a strong guardian - a man of morals and maybe Ansur decides he doesn't want history to repeat itself. He doesn't want someone else to fall victim to the Emperor again so he gifts Wyll power or a weapon or something that could put him on par with Mizora so he doesn't need her help anymore.
He held out, he endured, he stayed true to himself and finally, someone recognizes that, truly acknowledges his efforts and now he has power that is truly his, that he earned in his own right by being who he is.
Maybe then you could tie that into a climax, a final confrontation with Mizora. Maybe instead of killing his father in the Iron Throne, she simply kidnaps him from there before before you arrive to make Wyll panic that we were too late and something has happened to his father.
Maybe Mizora appears at camp with his father as a bargaining chip, mocks him for going on a wild goose chase and how amusing it was to watch. She could threaten his father to make Wyll more compliant, to try force him to resign the pact but this time is different.
This time Wyll, the Blade of Frontiers, isn't the one who's at a disadvantage. Maybe you could have a Durge vs Orin situation - a 1v1, duel to the death with strict rules of engagement to be fraught at the foot of the hill where this all began - if Mizora wins, Wyll resigns and can never break free from the hells. If Wyll wins, Mizora dies and his father goes free.
Maybe Mizora uses a loop hole in the duel's rules to cheat when she's near defeat and that's when you and the rest of your party jump in to keep Mizora's lackeys at bay while Wyll finishes her off and then a cutscene of the final blow, of Wyll's victory. Finally, he's a free man and his father sees him for who he is. His actions said everything they needed to.
I don't know, like I said, not a writer in any capacity and I feel like I'm just getting lost in my own musing - there's lots of things I didn't consider, like surely a situation like this would have point holes everywhere, especially since I don't know the first thing about DnD and it's lore but my original point was that I feel like Wyll needs a moment - that character defining moment that most of the other characters have - that time for him because he is a good character, I really like him and I hope that Larian listens.
I appreciate all the hard work they do with all the patches, never doubt that but I've always felt like Wyll's story needs more attention and it is important - he's a main character, an origin, he's a key feature of the game and that should take priority.
I love all the new features that they add (to a degree) but this is a core issue and I'd much prefer they work on the things that matter and add the fluff later.
Just my two cents though, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
Edit: I just remembered that devils go back to the hells when they die top side, right? (See, what did I say? Plot holes) but maybe it wouldn't matter since Wyll would've lived a long life by the time Mizora pops up again. Maybe she swears revenge on the Ravengard's and bam, plot for the next game. If there is one. LMAO

Naruto re-read XXX
Chapters covered: 245 - 254 Twentyeight Volume of the manga / 1rst Volume Naruto Shippuden
Site used: https://manga4life.com/manga/Naruto (VIZ translation of the manga)
Disclaimer: This is intended as a list and simple observations of the topics that particularly interested me in the aforementioned chapters, in that sense, do not expect a linear -or totally deep- analysis.
Tumblr’s update doesn’t allow me to attach more than 10 pictures, therefore, all of them will be LINKED. Apologies.
634) A little more than two years passed, not yet the three ones Akatsuki said it needed to “clear all of its assignments” (x). It’s unclear what those assignments were as they didn’t seem to start collecting Bijuus until after Naruto returns to Konoha.
635) The look on Naruto’s face when he sees Sakura after two-plus years (x). Her stance is somewhat strange, was she flirting or fishing for compliments? Perhaps both. By her last expression, she does seem glad to see him.
636) Considering the title of “sensei” was often disputed during their time as Team 7, this statement is awkward (x). It seems that Kakashi and Sakura haven’t trained nor seen each other much during the two years either (x).
637) “Attack as though you meant to kill or you’ll never stand a chance!" (x) versus closing his eyes so he wouldn’t be spoiled about his favorite novel (x). Was he truly taking this whole thing seriously or nah? He claimed to “make more serious of an effort” (x) but he completely disregarded the seriousness when he decided spoilers were more important than combat.
638) I’ve said it countless times before, Sakura isn’t using her “raw strength” but rather the Cherry’s blossom impact; it’s a diversification of her medical ninjutsu: rather than simply enhancing her strength with chakra (as Tsunade likely does), she gathers chakra in her fists and releases it upon impact. Kakashi states it himself, “to rapidly manipulate maximum chakra and instantly concentrate it into one’s fist (...) Sakura was always adept at genjutsu… but if this display of skill is any indication… she might just end up a greater kunoichi than even Lady Fifth!” (x).
He even acknowledged her “capacity” for genjutsu (which was regular at best for what we saw) and decided that the route she chose was far better suited for her as it gave her more room to become of the likes of Tsunade. So all this time that her fandom complained about Kishimoto not giving her Genjutsu skills? It was acknowledged and the decision was explained. Furthermore, why do you want her to have Genjutsu skills when no matter what she could do with them, it was no match for the Sharingan? Her stans can’t stop shouting about how she was robbed of genjutsu when Kishimoto gave her a technique that no other member of Team 7 was even trying to attempt to give her something to excel in.
Kakashi’s appreciation of Sakura’s skills is rudimentary at best, I’ve already shown how her genjutsu skills were basic at most: She fell for Kakashi’s genjutsu on the bell test, had to wait for Sasuke’s reassurance that an illusion was in place in the chünin exams, fell for Orochimaru’s genjutsu in FoD, and was fooled by a henge twice in the same chapter and once by non-other than Naruto who pretended to be Sasuke. She had four encounters with the genjutsu technique (and two with the henge, which while not a genjutsu still relies on deceiving the enemy), and three out of the four times she fell for it, and still, some of you held Kakashi’s words as “proof of her wasted potential” when he’s the same man who couldn’t care less if she dropped out of the exam. (source)
639) Naruto’s “Kakashi is more adept at Sharingan than Sasuke…” (x) is hilarious because he’s comparing a 31-year-old man (who admits the Sharingan drains his stamina incredibly fast) with a twelve-year-old as that was the last time he saw him… Sakura admits she can’t keep up with Kakashi’s sign-weaving speed. She’s admitting to not having enough reflexes, this will come back with her fight against Sasori.
640) Kakashi states he “invented this amazing new jutsu…” I’ll wait for the resolution of this sentence but I’m guessing he’s speaking of the MS’s technique… which isn’t his (x).
641) Naruto invites Sakura out on a date… Sakura doesn’t reject the idea but the context implies she accepts because then it means Naruto has to pay for it (x).
642) Each village seems to have its version of the medical corps (x), they seem to also be able to erect a shield around the village. Sand also seems to have “puppet corps” (x) created by Sasori.
643) Deidara’s strategy is impeccable (x).
644) Inner Sakura is still alive it seems… (x). Also, why is Tsunade sending Team 7 (the jinchuuriki of the nine tails included) to Suna? Was she not informed about Akatsuki targeting jinchuurikis (she seems to be)? Was she not concerned about the possibility of its members attacking the vessel of Kurama? Why send just one team? (and later on, just two). If it was to save their numbers and avoid sacrificing members of their militia, why send their most powerful “tool” at their disposal? Why isn’t Jiraiya going with them? Makes no sense whatsoever. Just love the fact that Kishimoto didn’t know how to justify the whole decision so he just… didn’t.
645) Deidara’s assignment was the one-tail (x), Sasori’s target is unknown, it’s inside a jinchuriki tho.
646) It takes three days for the poison to kill Kankuro (x) and it takes Team 7 + Temari two and a half days to reach Suna. Sakura, using medical ninjutsu, can extract most of the poison from Kankuro’s body (x), giving her more time to work. It’s established that Tsunade is a better expert at poisons than Chiyo (x), and she seems to have taught Sakura and Shizune different types of antidotes. There's no mention of Sakura coming up with a new type of antidote on her own, she seems to have combined three of them to save Kankuro. Edit: The translation in this last point seems to be off. She might have meant she could do three doses of the antidote with the ingredients avaiable, using one in Kankuro.
Tumblr media
Shizune also uses Dokugiri and Shikomishindan, two forms of attack that have poison as their primary element.
647) Sakura knows about Naruto’s condition as a vessel, he wasn’t the one who told her, she secretly read Tsunade’s reports; that’s likely a crime. That way she learned about Naruto’s nature, Itachi’s existence, Sasuke’s target, and Orochimaru’s condition; nothing was confided in her, so she forced herself into the mixture (x). It was likely out of concern and to collect information to help Sasuke (x) but, strangely, such behavior goes unpunished, meanwhile, Naruto was persecuted when he sought the knowledge of the scroll during the first chapters of the manga.
648) Chiyo wasn’t interested in intervening with Gaara’s kidnapping until they told her Sasori was involved (x).

this one's to the lovely who dropped an entire essay back @ me in the inbox! i've decided to format the post such that i can answer some portions directly so none of us get confused, hope you don't mind! anything indented is what you sent in, the rest is part of my response :) it's another doozy but we love those, don't we? asflkdj here we go!
Hi, hope you're doing well! I'd been the anon giving you asks more on Revali's personality and his behavior around the Flock and the Flock's reaction (mostly Tulin's) towards him. Also, the 1.6k did not overwhelm me- if anything made me very happy and overall more curious ahahaha. If anything- thank you so much for accepting and taking the time to answer these asks. Can relate to the unhinged feelings over the lonely rito- I could be hours and hours thinking. That gif of the guy with a board behind full of clues and trying to connect the dots- that's currently me.
hello, welcome back! thank you, hope you're having a wonderful time too!! ♡ also gotta thank you again for sending these in, i genuinely get so excited to see things like this in my inbox!! your passion is so great to see! i'm glad you enjoy my answers, and that they make you all the more curious and open to sharing with me ♡ what a huge mood though afklsjdg this stupid bird just has So Much to him
I've re-read your post various times and even tried organizing my thoughts in paper. And there is so much I want to ask... What caught a lot my attention- was how you spoke a bit of Rito village during & after the Calamity; ofc we don't really get a clear picture of the before even with AoC's light but we do get the clearest view of the aftermath of it (ofc 100 years skipped). I do feel (Pre-Calamity) Rito Village had a larger flock(?) compared to the village we get exposed during BoTW/ToTK events. In a way feels the loss of their Champion & Calamity's wrath- made them all realize the importance of that sense of unity.
yes, exactly! you get it! it's a natural outcome from suffering any huge loss...and while it comes from a place of tragedy, i just. really appreciate how homely and cosy rito village feels in both botw and totk because of it — you get that sense of nobody is genuinely uncared for, even link! and this isn't to say that the other peoples of hyrule don't care for their own, it just! hits different with the rito. like you get the impression that everybody interacts with each other everyday! you literally can't go from the top of the village to the bottom without seeing almost every single resident; they're all practically neighbours! they're all, on some level, friends!
this significance on sticking together as a community is especially evident in totk. seriously, it makes me so emo seeing the kids step up to fill in spaces the adults did not mean to leave behind nor expect them to fill :') and their efforts don't go unrecognised, as they shouldn't be, but oh my god. on my hands and knees over how cherished the kids are in this damn flock!! nekk ( MY BELOVED ) puts it best: "they're the saviours of this village."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and like! they're going through extremely hard times with supply scarcities but still find the capacity to be so generous?? there are more things than i expected lying about that you can just grab — that they'll consciously let you grab! i'm going to need these folks to stop having such a huge collective heart fr it's making me feel A Lot 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( and in reviewing cutscenes from both botw and aoc in this context, i think we can safely say that their residential population was indeed bigger pre-calamity. there's more background npcs just chilling about in the memory "revali's flap" compared to most post-calamity cutscenes, and aoc literally shows that there are enough rito present for brigades! the reduced numbers we see post-calamity could simply be attributed to more rito travelling beyond their home and even hyrule, but then the calamity would probably be a big reason for that too )
Brings me back to ToTK, where I noticed most adults in a way spoke highly & relied (at least to me) a bit on Tulin's ability to use wind magic- after all it's been a long time since they ever witness it. But also appreciated how Harth's dialogues which he praises the boy's ability but is concerned of how Tulin is taking certain approach (how at first he goes alone) and his overworking state. Even Teba & Saki recognize their son's abilities but as parents are concerned- I am pretty sure while they acknowledge him as a rito warrior, they also want him to continue living his childhood. (Link does too btw- sorry I don't mention them often)
OH, FOR SURE. you are right on many points here; for sure, the adults have come to see tulin as a young rito warrior in his own right and do trust him to contribute in a way they wouldn't ask of the other fledglings; harth makes it clear that even before link had come, sending tulin to investigate the cloud surrounding the stormwind ark was an option they weren't as opposed to as our introduction to the kid made it seem ( and it's not just his wind-gust technique they're so in awe of either! god. he really has worked so hard!! and everybody can see it! 😭😭 ).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
with the worry, i believe the nature of it really depends! it's all completely warranted given how tulin's initial views on how "he doesn't need anyone else backing him up" has apparently "gotten him into trouble more times than [harth] can count" ( which is definitely concerning but also. it can't be anything worse than getting his bow stolen and being left with just his talons for defence in the face of a monster, right? because tulin. tulin. that could not have been your turnaround if you've been doing shit like flying straight into frost taluses solo or something sflkjd ) anyway, but it seems for teba and harth, it's more in a we're worried you're actively sabotaging yourself with your recklessness way.
Tumblr media
saki had hang-ups about tulin losing his innocence too early in botw ( "he is such a sweet boy," she says, and it never fails to make me collapse on my knees because he so is and the best thing is he never loses that aspect of himself!! ), but does appear to have come to accept that her son's growing up in totk? i unfortunately don't have a screenshot of the line that indicates this, nor do i remember it verbatim, but the vibes i'm getting from her are i'm worried because you have not learnt enough to be as grown up as you insist you are ( which leaves you ill-prepared for the situations you're trying to fly into ).
ofc it all connects to a primary worry for his safety and his tendency to do way more than anyone would ask of him, but i do think they understand, on some level, that trying to completely stop him is ultimately futile and will only make things worse — in that he'll start deliberately pushing them away when he's only leaving them behind for now.
he's a tween! still a child but only ever getting older, and with how important it is to their culture, i imagine being a warrior isn't as mutually exclusive from childhood as it'd be for us. like tulin's an outlier because he's a prodigy who excessively worked himself to that title, but i don't doubt that compulsory education for growing fledglings would involve, among other things, learning how to at least hunt and defend yourself in the wild! so i don't think it's that they're scared of him growing up too fast at that point in totk — because while he's definitely matured more than his peers in some parts, he is very much still experiencing being a child no matter what he argues in many others aflskdj — just more like...they want him to grow up well. properly, for a lack of better words. WHICH INCLUDES NOT OVERWORKING. oh my god with the overworking
( also oh boy. very glad you brought up link! no need to be sorry! i can't say much on him because i'm not a link writer, though i do ramble about his dynamic with tulin, including how he potentially sees himself reflected in him, over here if you're interested! )
But this also sends me off to another "path" makes me think- What if Revali didn't have this type of support? And it made me think how similar were Revali's and Tulin's in some aspects but how different the outcome were for both- it's a bit tragic at least for me.
YES. YES!! THIS IS IT, YOU HIT IT ON THE HEAD!! i've said it before and i'll say it again: tulin and revali are essentially one support system removed from being each other! they share notable parallels!
just. the fact that harth notices the injuries on tulin's wings from pushing himself to the limits. we don't get follow-up dialogue on that, but there's such a high chance that Words are exchanged between them when link leaves them be because we've seen their relationship. we know how harth cares for tulin, we know tulin is loved for more than what he can do and looked out for. now juxtapose that with revali, thrown out of his own tornado, alone in that moment where he picks himself up as well — but way less likely to have anyone say anything about his wing injuries or to even let someone think he has them. [spontaneously combusts]
i would say more on this and why the sages of totk in general act well as foils to the champions of botw, particularly regarding themes, but that really does feel like a post for another time sdflkjd and it is tragic! it is very tragic! revali was doomed by the narrative in more ways than one :')
I remember the diary where he speaks how the town began praising him for his achievements- that type of validation can be good but to an extreme and left unchecked, it can spiral someone into depending of it. And yet at the end of that diary... he still spoke how he need to continue perfecting himself. Something that AoC made me think in more depth was how almost everyone was "chosen" by destiny (or have a unique ability) and carried a title. But when I look at Revali he seems somehow an abstract to them. Even though in his diary such things were not something he cared for- he mostly valued folks by their responses and actions. (Note: Found cute how he appreciated the scarf and gave one to his bow... It really meant a lot to him// Also I do think Revali appreciated all the Champions including Zelda & Link).
YEAH. YEP. and the way he at first speaks about it, how he contradicts himself in tone despite trying to sound so self-assured — "as one would expect" VS the "i...could get used to this." that follows in the same entry — that's the attention and glory he's always wanted! now he's gonna affix it to the meaning of loving and being loved. which he's also going to attach to his abilities and what he can offer, which is deeply connected to his perceived self-worth. and he's going to make sure he'll never run out of ( tbf real and well-earned ) confidence in that self-worth by constantly pushing himself to greater, more impossible heights. i'm going to put this bird in a washing machine.
he's literally just a guy!! it's one of my favourite things about him, he's Just Some Guy in the group of people who were born into wealth; powers; blessings; respect. they all had their trials, but he earned his place among them from the comparative nothing he started out with and he's justifiably proud of this!
i do think he's also insecure about it at first, tbh ( which he reacts to by laying on the conceit even thicker ), even though his belief in hard work being a supreme indicator of one's "true strength" isn't actually shaken. he is genuinely like i more than deserve to be here but he's also like. and there's nothing you can do about it. don't you forget it. don't you forget it. don't you ever forget it. i wouldn't say it mellows out, but the more he gets to see the champions in action ( thus confirming that they are on his level — that he's fit to make a constellation amongst these that've already been mapped ), the less inclined he feels to explicitly remind them.
and oh my god. the things i could say about what the blue scarf likely means to him. it was handcrafted by zelda, hyrule's princess, for him specifically. it's part of a matching set with other big powers of hyrule. titles and uniform do nothing for him, he claims, but isn't this like being told you are one of us? that you have much to offer? it's "meaningless pomp", he says.
it's also still a gift.
the cloth he ties to his bow is the same shade of blue. i should really make another study post speaking about this more in depth, but i've always interpreted it to be a memento the same way teba and saki's feathers on tulin's quiver are! in tulin's time, this might mean, "these people are always with me." in revali's time, on the brink of a calamity, i imagine it might mean, "( if i fall, you who finds me, ) i belonged with these people."
And yet when Teba & Tulin show up- there is this subtle change on him(?) I wished the game had dwelled a bit more on Teba and Revali. Seeing their interactions was always interesting and in a way, Teba seemed to understand the rito champion. While I felt Teba was that friend or even family member(?) that Revali needed in a way or I could be just over reading, ahaha sorry. But sincerely, I always felt Teba & Tulin were that family or friends- that in a way Revali needed and it makes me think so hard on the "What ifs" and "What could have been"...
what i wouldn't have given for more content and interactions between these three as well!! it's especially fascinating to think about it from teba's side — there is so much recontextualising he has to do and does do about revali, because the one he's grown up idolising and hearing Songs about is uh. well, he's certainly there in the revali he meets, but i doubt he's really prepared for things like how painfully young he is.
he handles it very well honestly asfklsdjg i would not have taken to the realisation that my champion is a warrior hardened only by constant work and the battles he throws himself into, and kind of a fucking brat because he's like the 18yo who thinks being 18 is a decade away from being 17, and died distressingly young back in my timeline with the same grace he gives when he says — of the entire wild experience that is aoc — "this has been enlightening".
you are not over-reading, do not be sorry fr!! i do think revali found an opportunity for companionship in teba that he couldn't find anywhere else when he's built relationships and dynamics he can't change because he has an image to uphold! teba already comes with a dire respect for revali, the knowledge that his story does not end nicely, AND HE'S AN ACTUAL DAD. that sort of thing can bleed into your behaviour and the way you process things without meaning to asflkdjgs
THE BIGGEST MOOD!! wow i'm so glad writers ( it's me, i'm writers ) can create literally anything they want and so can explore these what ifs and what could have beens and give a resolution to a story cut short. this is what my the champions survive au is all about, i hope to have you stay long enough to see these things come out of it ♡
As for the Flight Range & Saki's dialogue; I've always been emo about the F.Range specially when you walk in and hear his theme playing in this music box style... it's like part of his soul is also there but that flame that burnt passionately has subdued and waits to pass to torch to the next generation. In ToTK it made me cry- specially when Kaneli comments (when you pick the bow,arrows) how they been collecting dust... But on the bright side, made me happy that even with the damages- they still hold dearly to the place and is currently being used as training grounds for flight. Which... is what Revali wanted for his people for them to reach the sky and break the limits (or that how I interpreted it).
AUGH EXACTLY, YOU GET IT!! 😭 he never gave it his name but it'll always be his! it's the most melancholic we ever get to hear his theme, full of the wistful yearning that was definitely present but more muted in its botw version! it's lost potential. an unsaid goodbye. revali's gone. but it's also grounds for hope, a tiptoeing hello: his legacy lives on still! i will always go fucking feral over the music in these games!!
YES!! YEAH!! [HOLDING YOU BY THE SHOULDERS] he calls his journal "the diary of revali, the rito legend" BUT HE DOES NOT. GIVE THE FLIGHT RANGE LITERALLY MADE FOR HIM HIS NAME. because it was never going to be something solely for him. he loves his people, he was never going to stymie their prospects! this loser is so good at making me infuriatingly sad AUGH
Re-reading Saki's dialogue with the context you given me- hit me like a ton of bricks. Because it was a new pov. When I first read her dialogue, I took it more of a "Remembering our Champion- one we couldn't help" rather than "commemoration of what he couldn't do". But I also remembered how contrasting are Teba and Saki; Teba being a warrior with pride, reckless at times - who admired greatly Revali's feats and aspired once to surpass him. Meanwhile Saki is more calm and is concerned with the concept of engaging battle- nervous about the training her son was exposed to. So, when re-reading her dialogue I take it more of a wife and mother concerned of losing her companion/husband and son to a similar fate to Revali's.
i swear we are on the same wavelength. yes, exactly!
another thing about revali's landing that makes me so, so deliriously emo — it's a physical permanency given without request: in the best way they can afford to grant it. the rito notably have very little tangible representations of themselves. they don't have statues or effigies like the zora or gorons ( and why would they, when they have Songs and the Windlines and are also probably restricted by their morphology ), and revali does not have any family to be likened to. link remembers him through seeing the landing, which was there, a part of rito village, before it was ever deemed revali's. it wasn't made for him. but they gave it to him! and i'm!! [BLUBBERING]
Revali's love for his people and Rito Village- it breaks me. I can understand that sentiment of loving someone or something from a far (?) - Even when challenging W.Blight and listening to his lines (both english and spanish for me), one can hear that hidden sadness. It's hearing someone who wants to go back home. "But even so, it will always be my home." - the entirety of those lines really hit me so hard the first time I've heard them.
I KNOW. I KNOW. [head in hands] a century has passed and he can't fathom it. "there's no one left who would even know me." he sounds so struck by it, in both the original jpn and english audio, i want to wrap him up in a blanket and toast him like a marshmallow! how much of that is grief? how much of that is longing? how much of that is some strange solace, in knowing he's alone but there's nothing he could've done about it this time?
Also, it makes me glad seeing a Tulin who can see the good in Revali- even if the champion can have a bit of a thorn like exterior. I've read some of the threads! They been wonderful and brought me a lot of joy. It makes me happy to see Tulin taking flight and moving forward. When you mention your student-disciple, are you referring to Kido? I know there were two names but I've lost the post with the cups. I would love to hear about them all!
thank you!! it heartens me to know that you've dipped into some of my ic writing too! i hope you'll continue to enjoy your stay here!! ♡♡
SLFKJKSDLG SO I'VE CHANGED IT IN THE POST NOW, but i meant master-disciple! apologies for the confusion!! kido is an original character of mine who would actually rather fall into totori lake than be revali's student alfjsdkg but that's how it be when you're a kid with a complex, turned-less-than-pleasant background with the concept of revali. if you're interested and up for it, please do give his dossier and study tag a peek! this is by no means a request that you do; it's totally fine if you leave him be!
There so many questions and facts, I would love to talk about... but as I scrolled up- I noticed this is becoming a long one. I am so sorry. I'd been trying to simplify and cut a bit ;-; Plus, I know this blog is a multiverse but focused on Tulin and I don't want to bother. So once again, thank you so much for taking your time in answering these asks. If anything if you ever do the academic-paper length study on lonely birb, I'll run over to read it X'D !!! But I'd been enjoying everything of the meta- the studies on rito's culture and behaviour. Also been curious on your views on Kass taking the role of a bard... Yeah, looking forward to keep reading. Thank you once again.
please, never be sorry for giving me your thoughts, no matter how long they end up being!! i mean it! i enjoyed reading through every line, it means a lot to me that you'd take the time and energy to send something of this scale to me ♡ you did not bother and will not bother, i promise! any of my muses are up for discussion, and so are their people in general! i have an itch to talk about these birds at all times, lurkers like you give me a great scratch ♡
one more time, thank you for your kind words!! i'm so happy to know that my thoughts are received this well!!
KASS MY BELOVED. i'm not sure if you've seen my study on what Songs, Songkeepers, and Scriptweavers are, but if you have, then here's some paraphrased disco ramblings on my Thoughts on him! with how important a role he played in keeping and invoking memories of the champions in botw's dlc, i'm of the belief that he's rito village's primary Songkeeper! ahaha, on this note ( and this is more of a fun roleplaying easter egg than anything ): my botw verse is named Song of the Reclamation — i keep the headcanon that kass, specifically, writes this Song after the game's events tucked away with other misc. details that inform how i run things here :)
this is already long enough, so i think i'll end it here asfljkd but feel free to bounce your thoughts off me anytime! this has been an absolute pleasure, looking forward to seeing you in the inbox again whenever you drop by! thank you!! ♡

Wizard of the Wood | 4 | Remembering Remedies
~~~~~^*^*^*^*^~~~~~
Begin.
No.
She remembered.
The test.
After he arrived, Essie tended to his wounds using a combination of magic and herbs to ease the pain and help him heal faster. Rylir made an off-handed comment about how he wished that he knew what all of these potions and poultices, which caught the wizard’s attention. Essie then offered to teach him about herbs and plants that could heal him, among other things, and he accepted the offer.
Little did he know she was a dedicated scholar and that she would be as determined as she was to help educate him. Rylir did appreciate her efforts, but learning was a challenge. He learned through experience and the common terms for different plants, not memorization of long, drawn out names and word drills.
So, knowing Essie was going to be testing him today formed a pit in his insides.
Rylir felt his insides drop, and Essie noticed instantly. She could see practically see Rylir’s panic. Why did he worry so much? She wasn’t going to punish him for not passing her makeshift test. If anything, she was confused as to why he wasn’t using the time he had to learn more from her. Essie didn’t consider herself a master mage by any stretch of the imagination, but she did consider herself knowledgeable on a number of things which Rylir could benefit from.
With a small exhalation of understanding and also unintended frustration, she tucked a few stray strands of her snow-white hair behind her ear.
“Rylir, you really are not taking advantage of the opportunity I am presenting you with,” she stated in her usual factual tone.
“I know. You… you’ve said that before,” sighed Rylir. “It’s just… maybe… I’m not cut out for this learning thing. I’m a worker, labor by da. I learn with my hands. All of the… special terms and the word stems and such… it’s more than what I need to know.”
“That’s not the point,” Essie countered, uttering the incantation “antecess” while rolling her fingers out from her palm as though beckoning someone forward or dipping them into water. Her spell readjusted the chair she often used so she could sit down at the desk. “First, anyone is capable of learning. We simply need to adjust the method of learning which, for you, will be tactile. Second, this is useful knowledge which you can utilize should you decide to re-enter society.”
“But… I can’t cast spells or…”
“Rylir, apologies for interrupting,” said Essie as she raised her finger politely for him to pause. “But I must insist a few additional points. First, the things I’m teaching you do not require knowledge of the arcane. Second, you doubt your intelligence and capacity to learn, which I find unacceptable. You know a great deal, and I’m just contributing to the knowledge you’ve already accumulated. Finally, you are stalling. Seeing your discomfort, let me put your mind at ease and, instead, let’s review. I shall reserve the right to test you at a later time. Compromise accepted?”
Rylir could not have given a heftier sigh of relief, though he wasn’t sure how he felt about what she said about how much he knew. Did she really have that much faith in him? In what he was capable of learning? Regardless, he was grateful for the reprieve and smiled at Essie.
“Only if you insist,” he said, feeling the invisible tendrils of tension loosening from around his chest.
“Very well, though I hope you take advantage of this time you’ve unrightfully earned,” said Essie, a hint of sarcastic tease in her tone, as she turned her attention to one of the planter boxes on the nearby shelf.
Extending her index and middle fingers, she muttered the incantation “huc” which made the box on the top shelf levitate and bring itself to her. Her elegant fingers clasped either side of the box. Dispelling her summoning charm, and setting it between herself and where Rylir was standing on the desk.
Rylir glanced inside the box and admired its contents and the simple beauty of the little things that grew there. The box overflowed with herbs and vines, small bushes and mushrooms Essie had collected from the land beneath the mountain. Some of them Rylir recognized, but only because he relied on eating them as he traveled from one town to the next. The others were strange and their fragrance was odd, sometimes possessing a musty and pungent odor, warding him away to find other things to eat.
So, rather than seeing the plants for what they were supposed to be called, Rylir associated them with the after effects once he ate them. His classification system consisted of very simple criterion – tasty, sick, and gross but effective.
Sadly, Rylir knew Essie would be unwilling to accept his method of identifying plants, so he had to learn her way.
The poor man stood, staring at the plants in front of him, and only one name for the many plants came to mind. Thankfully, he at least remembered what this one was good for.
“Which ones to you recognize?” prompted Essie as she directed her attention to Rylir, who stared at the flowers he recognized. Their stems came up to his hip, but their height wasn’t their most identifiable feature which were the bright yellow petals that lined the thick seeded face of the flower.
“Um… well… tat one is a sunflower. You can eat it and it helps with coughs sometimes if you have it in a tea,” said Rylir. Essie nodded approvingly and reached out to touch the very edge of the flower petals, her delicate touch contrasting with what would be expected from the fingers of a giant.
“Helianthus, beneficial in treating some upper respiratory illnesses as well as satiating hunger. Good. Next,” she said briskly, ice shard like eyes turning from the flower’s face to that of the miniscule man on her desk. Rylir stiffened, which was something Essie noticed in an instant. She leaned back, folding her left arm across her chest and grasping the bridge of her nose with her thumb and the side of her index finger.
“I see,” she said. “Very well. Let’s go through this from the top.”
Essie unfolded her arms and sat on the end of her seat as she reached forward and tenderly brushed a clump of pretty white flowers that grew in lacy clusters. They looked almost like daisies but had only five petals instead of dozens. The stems were stiff and sprung back and forth at her touch.
“This is achillea millefolium, also called yarrow. It helps sooths upset stomachs, can relieve feelings of tension in the body, and it can be applied to the skin to stop bleeding of minor cuts and wounds,” said Essie. She pointed to another plant which was a vibrant orange, the petals creating a perfect circle. “And this is calendula officinalis, marigold or pot marigold in the common vernacular. His can be used topically to sooth allergic reactions, which is when you break out in hives and become irritated or, in some cases, you start to swell and may have a hard time breathing.”
Essie proceeded to walk Rylir through all of the plants in the box, explaining that most of these things were for topical use to cure bleeding and miscellaneous ailments from internal distress. Rylir tried keeping up with the special terminology, but he felt as though his head were spinning with how much Essie was explaining to him.
Essie, stoic like an oak, leaned heavily on the desk in silent contemplation as Rylir tried to recite the different herbs and plants. Her expression was hard to read, and Rylir first suspected that she was frustrated or disappointed, but the time that he spent with her provided that necessary insight he needed to fully read the expression of the giantess.
Curiosity and contemplation.
She was working through different scenarios in her head, obviously trying to figure out the best way to proceed. She was trying to find the best way forward to help Rylir, and she found it.
She saw Rylir’s mental spiraling and came up with another method for him to learn what the plants were, more specifically what they did and how he could use them. Aloe was soft on the inside, and she explained that you had to use something soft to help keep your skin soft. Pot marigold was the color you didn’t want your skin to be, and the allergic reaction sometimes was the size of around as the flower. Yarrow looked like lace, like a bandage, but only a small bandage.
It wasn’t a perfect system, and it certainly had its flaws when plants looked like one another, like dandelions and sow thistle, but it was a step in the right direction because, instantly, Rylir began retaining the information and was able to recite them faster.
Rylir, for the first time since he was a boy, was learning more than just a trade or a skill. It was thanks to Essie he was understanding these things, and he slowly began to wonder what else he might learn from her.
Ask Me Anything
[ @falsegold ] not going to lie as soon as i saw you had an account on here i wanted to ask things. 6, 11 but specifically the last question, and 35? coming from orre i know even the shittiest criminals have at least some redeeming qualities or neat interests so i may as well shoot my shot and fish for them here
Alright, let me answer these in order, it seems you have selected quite a few.
Question 6: What kind of tasks do your pokémon do to help you in the day-to-day?
The first thing that comes to mind is my dear camerupt. Shes retired from battling and has taken to mothering me every day. She sleeps by my desk while I work, and nudges me when she thinks I aught to take a break from the screens and have a walk. I do tend to get wrapped up in my work. I suppose my legs might have just fallen off by now if I didn't have her. (ha ha) My mightyena refuses to retire in any capacity, and will pick fights with other grunts or pokémon, so I have to take him out to spar pretty often, burn off all that excess energy. Lastly, my golbat has moved to the security department. He stays in the entrance of the hideout, warning of intruders and slowing them with initial battles. I do make sure to visit and spend time with him, he's still my pokémon after all, and I intend to take care of him.
Question 11A: do you battle, coordinate, study, or something else?
I am (still) a leader. Specifically, the leader of Team Magma. In my youth, I thought I would become a professor, and teach geology, but the many crises of humanity shifted my goals.
Question 11B: Why did you decide to do that?
Because I believed that with combined intelligence and coordinated effort, we can change this world for the better. I still believe that, in fact, but I understand now that the consequences of ones actions need to be taken more seriously. Risk margins aren't excusable, things need to be safe, you can't just put people in danger, even if your end goal is altruistic.
Question 11C: Have you ever tried to do one of the other things?
I was a tutor for a short time. I needed to make money while in college, so I started a tutoring service to help fellow students get their grades up. It was not particularly fulfilling, and I doubt any of my students liked me. Not my true calling, to be sure. Sometimes I think about retiring and teaching again, but with my reputation shattered, likely permanently, I can't think of a university that'd even think of hiring me. I'll likely get a small house somewhere in Hoenn, or maybe Alola to avoid people bothering me as I grow old.
Lastly, Question 35: How do you like to spend time with your pokémon?
Most of it is grooming. I take my time brushing out my camerupt's fur and polishing off her facets. She enjoys the attention, certainly, and is having a wonderful retirement being pampered, hmhm. We go on walks, though I can't say where to protect my privacy, though our walks are becoming shorter as time goes on. My age is catching up to me finally, and my joints don't appreciate the abuse. Mightyena has a short tolerance for pampering, and prefers to play. I have this device, a sort of stick with a cup on the end that holds the tennis ball, and I'll use that to give him a good run. All three of them will simply "hang out" with me while I sit atop the hideout and help Owen garden. Really I sit in my outside chair and Owen gardens, but I have had a very busy life, and if I don't want to play in the dirt, I'm not going to. Owen and I chat, and he feeds berries to both of our pokémon. It's actually my favorite way to relax. A cold drink and the ocean breeze, chatting with my son under an umbrella while he tells me so passionately about his garden or the latest additions of his collection. I almost forget about how broken the world is in that moment, it's just... peaceful.
I am unsure of what the scoring system is for this game, but I hope these answers are sufficient. If the points are granted based on length of writing, I believe I may be better at this game than I first thought. Best of luck, all. - Maxie
@apocalopalyptic inquired: It's a potentially culturally-insensitive question but Amira's no stranger to risking her foot in her mouth to satiate curiosity so... "If your kingdom is underwater and all do you all just.. never cook?"
                       Miranda laughs.
      That may neither be the reaction Amira was looking for, nor even the reaction she was expecting, but it’s the reaction Miranda has, head immediately pitching forward and towards the ground, looking like she’s about to topple over, while she laughs.
      It’s a mad hyena-cackle — sure, it started lilting and musical and chirruping, but it all too quickly pitches over into a deeper bark of a sound, intercut with sharper inhales that punctuate the mad laughter with silence crackling through it like dry mud. Her mouth is open, baring all her teeth. It would be impressive, if Miranda wasn’t facing the ground as much as she physically could, making looking into her maw a bit of a difficult call. Add in how short she already is, and how her hands try to lift up, try to cover her face or pull her mouth shut, and there’s no good glimpse of her pearly whites. Vivid blue eyes scrunch up, shutting tightly between her attempts to try and wrangle herself back to a more presentable posture and just how much she laughs, rocking through her chest to create a booming sound that fills the room. Nostrils flare, then shut, then flare again, and Miranda’s sides heave with the effort to just try and regain her breath again.
       It takes her a while to right herself, and even more to pull more air into her lungs, small as their capacity is. Even longer than that is for her to open her eyes again, looking at Amira with an expression as though she just asked if the sun made light.
               “My dear- my dear, of course we cook!
        Yes, you are right that we don’t use heat — or, rather, most do not. There are some methods, ways to boil small amounts of water, or heat-treat packets, or with fermentation, or stuff like that, but you do not truly need heat to prepare food, do you?
       Actually, we have quite the developed culinary arts! I do not know how much the land can appreciate, my understanding was that you can be quite put off by some of the methods we have, and I take it you are not quite a fan of all of the ingredients. Fermented foods are common for my people, as are cured foods, and marinated foods, and pressed foods, and that is not even getting into dishes like wraps! And then there is that which is simply served raw or live!
       Perhaps I should offer to show you some of my kingdom’s foods sometime, even if you may find eating it to be a different matter....”
The reason so many people end up on activity check is because your rules are too vague and too demanding. It seems like you're expecting people to reply to 10+ threads almost every day and some people don't have the time or capacity for that. You need to be clear and exact on what you're expecting because I frequently see people on activity checks I don't understand are on there all the time. I personally only have time for 3-4 replies about 4 or 5 times a week and that shouldn't mean I have to be excluded or kicked out of my hobby for not being able to do 5+ every single day. I've never been in an rp where I've seen so many people end up on ac so often with no real explanation besides some vague, unattainable things you guys keep saying. If this is a constant issue maybe you need to do things on your end to make it easier to understand what it is you want exactly instead of 5+ replies every other day because that's just too much for a lot of people. Especially with everything going on in the world right now.
We do not ask people to do 10+ threads everyday, that is simply untrue and not at all what was said in the admin notice. That is unrealistic and something we’d never expect anyone to be doing at all. We also never ask for replies every single day. We ask for members to just not go more than 2 days in-between replies and to not have a pattern of doing 1-5 replies each time they get on to do replies. We always encourage to take days off and get rest when members need it, or to ask for a hiatus when it’s needed. I think what is being misunderstood by a lot of people, is that by members taking so long to get their replies done, it’s also affecting the activities of the people they’re interacting with because those people don’t have threads to reply to when they get online. At the end of the day, it’s a group effort and we’re trying to see that through as best as we can. We appreciate the input, but we will not be answering anymore anonymous asks about activity. If you have any other concerns, please free to come to us off anon, so we can better work with you. Thank you.
Feeding my soul.
Hard to be open and transparent when penning down words publicly, but I want to try doing so today.
June 1st was my birthday. As the month of June wrapped up, I was reflecting on how my birthday month went, and if I did anything worthwhile this month. I was also reflecting more broadly on a few other things like what am I doing to leave this world a better place than I came into, what legacy am I going to leave behind, have I helped others enough that might not have the same privileges as me. I have these bouts sometimes, and I feel that self-reflections like these make me fall in love with life and help me gain more clarity of my life’s purpose. Many a times I am caught up hustling and simply living my everyday life, that I fail to recognize opportunities where I could have been of service in a greater capacity than taking care of just my family and loved ones. Many a times I get wrapped up in enjoying the fruits of today, that I forget to plant seeds for the future.
But there were three things I was able to do in June that made me feel genuinely happy inside.
I partnered with American Cancer Society (ACS)’s Relay For Life event and was able to fundraise critical dollars that go towards raising awareness and towards providing services to people that cannot afford cancer treatment. There are several clinical trials that go on hold due to lack of funds, so many of these trials do not reach the final stages and we never get to see the results of what could have been life-changing medical breakthroughs. I could not have done it alone, I have so many of my dear donors to thank who helped me on this fundraiser and helped fund cancer research. Hope one day we get to a cancer-free world! ACS also hosted a luncheon and recognized the local cancer survivors in my county. It was a humbling experience being able to see all the good work that happens behind the scenes of a big non-profit like ACS, to see how the raised funds are getting routed, and to hear stories of other cancer survivors and their journeys.
I was grateful that they honored not just survivors, but caregivers too, who fight tirelessly alongside any survivor. Nikki, one of my caregivers, was able to join me at that luncheon and she is someone I am thankful for being right beside me on this journey. My caregivers, whether it be my husband, or my mom, or my friends and relatives, give so much of themselves to see me thrive and come out the other side of this battle stronger. I just want to pause for a moment here to say that I thank you all so very much!! The collage here shows a poem dedicated to caregivers, who often do not get their fair share of appreciation.
Tumblr media
June was also the month when I started my chemotherapy treatment. It’s a long road for anyone diagnosed with cancer…. and if they have to go through chemotherapy, it is the part of the road that is usually the bumpiest and most tiring, quite literally. It is laced with all kinds of side effects due to the toxic chemo drugs that get pushed into one’s body, like nausea, constipation, diarrhea, terrible fatigue, bone pain, muscle pain, skin peeling, mouth sore, nose bleeds, teeth and nail damage, and yes, hair loss. Before the hair loss could take effect, I decided to go ahead and donate my hair. I figured very soon my hair would start thinning and falling off, so before I started losing my hair, I got myself a very short pixie cut and donated my hair to Locks Of Love.
During the Covid days I did not go to any hair salon and let my hair grow out long…. longer than I had ever grown my hair as far as I can recall. And here’s the reason why I was drawn to this non-profit--- Locks of Love provides custom hairpieces to children experiencing medical hair loss. They utilize human hair donations in the production of custom cranial prosthesis. Their recipients receive their custom hairpieces FREE OF CHARGE, every 2 years until the age of 21. It made me happy inside thinking a small effort like this could help someone else who might be struggling with a need for wig, need for better self-image or confidence… whether it’s due to alopecia caused by cancer or some other medical reason.
Tumblr media
And finally, after my diagnosis I admittedly have not been as religious about working out as I should be. To be completely honest, I have never been a runner, a cardio, or CrossFit, or Spin kind of gal. I was happy doing my daily walks of 2 miles (which again, I know I know is not much at all going by the standards of some of my fit runner friends 😊 ). But doing that regular walk of 2 miles with my 3-year old sweet English Cream Golden Retriever, Snowy, was good enough for me. However, given my surgery and chemo, even that 2 miles were torture for my body. Right before my treatment started, I had enrolled myself in a Virtual Workout challenge called Conqueror. It’s a New Zealand based company that offers virtual challenges based on immersive virtual travelling experience to help people start and stick to exercise, using technology to build positive habits rather than negative ones. So so glad I found this company/app!! I have recommended it to so many of my friends and here’s the link if interested-- https://www.theconqueror.events/r/JC93236
There are so many things I love about Conqueror. The participants could do a run, a walk, a ride, or a swim, you’re working towards conquering a S.M.A.R.T fitness goal. What you get out of it is what I put into it…. It’s all about your dedication and discipline. The challenges are all virtual, self-paced and have fantastic themes/trails like Peru, France, Golden Triangle, Amazon rainforest, etc. and even Lord of the Rings 😊. They have ariel views of the trails, and they send postcards and videos of landmarks along the challenge’s trail. Thus, I get to learn of the history, the architecture, the geography, the people, the cuisine although I haven’t travelled there in real life (but places that have been on my list). Also, they send real medals once you complete a challenge, and not the flimsy kinds but ones that are truly work of art in themselves and would always be prized possessions for me. So far I have completed their Inca Trail, Marathon To Athens and Giza Pyramids. Next up for me is Golden Triangle India. And finally, what drew me most to this platform is that for every 20% of a challenge that I complete, Conqueror plants a real tree to regrow forests, solve climate crisis and protect our planet, i.e. circling back to my reflection on am I leaving this world a better place than I came into? Conqueror partnered with Eden Projects — a non-profit organization, whose mission in their own words is--- “We work with local communities to restore landscapes on a massive scale, thereby creating jobs, protecting ecosystems, and helping mitigate climate change.”
Tumblr media
I hope I can keep finding causes like these and align myself better to do good, share great causes like these with others and bring them along in our journeys together, and teach my daughter to shine a little brighter by shining a light onto others.
Do what feeds your soul....
Secure Attachment Skills #10: Repair, Repair, Repair
From Diane Poole Heller's The Power of Attachment
---
SAS#10 Repair, Repair, Repair
“None of us is present or attuned or playful or all that good at listening all the time. That’s just how it goes. We all make mistakes or aren’t up to snuff here and there, and that’s where repair comes in. Learning this skill is an essential component to maintaining secure attachment. The challenge is that most of us never learned how to apologize or repair from our original families. As easy as it sounds, I’ve found it to be rare that we know how to do this, so keep in mind that repair might not be something that comes naturally to you or your partner.
“When things go awry, it doesn’t really matter who repairs first or who apologizes. Ideally, both people make the repair in a relatively timely way. Of course, sometimes we need to take a time-out to collect ourself. [...] But then we come back together so that we can move through whatever disappointment or hurt came up.  And it’s crucial to recognize when others are trying to repair with us.”
“Sometimes when people try to repair with us, we block their attempts. Maybe they didn’t apologize just right, were inarticulate, or we don’t feel they truly understand how they hurt us. Or they made up to us a lot later than we wanted them to.  Well, what I’m suggesting is that we all try to be a little more generous. When someone comes forward with some gesture of reconciliation, try to recognize that and appreciate it for what it is as opposed to how it falls short. The benefit of the doubt will benefit both of you.
“Of course, we also need to learn how to initiate repair. This involves the listening skill I talked about earlier.  Just drop all the explanations, rationalizations, and disagreements and simply listen.  Remember that most of what triggers us comes from our attachment history. So when your partner experiences some type of hurt in the relationship, you’re usually not dealing with a fresh wound that’s only about something you did or didn’t do. In other words, you’re not likely to set things right by explaining yourself well. There’s something deeper going on.
“Its okay to make mistakes in relationships. Really, it is. The good news is that these disconnections can make your relationship stronger, as long as you learn how to repair.  Ed Tronick reminds us that arriving at a beneficial place in your relationship doesn’t happen in a linear, direct way.  It’s more like sailing, where the wind blows you a little off course, so you make the necessary adjustments[...] When you make mistakes in a relationship, the little detours don’t have to derail the whole enterprise.  Repairing misattunements can build relationship resiliency. Of course, we don’t want to cause disconnection on purpose: we mess up enough just by being human. The important thing is to do what we can to find attunement when disconnections inevitably arise.”
“Check this out in your life. Notice what happens when you accept or initiate repair.  Sometimes we might offer to repair with someone who is not open to that or who isn’t particularly responsive. That’s okay, too. Repair is a vital skill to learn and practice regardless of the outcome, and the more we make these efforts, the better we get at them.  It’s also a way to directly update our relationships. We download the latest software, so to speak, and ideally things start to run a little better. We’re able to move forward and increase our relational capacity overall.
“In day-to-day relationships, it’s helpful to discuss how you might support repair attempts before you’re in a space in which one or both of you feels triggered. I think of this as designing a repair ritual. It could be as simple as using a particular word to signal that you’re ready for repair[...] Doing this signals that you’re ready to reconcile, and that gesture will shift the energy of the argument or bridge the distance that’s been created.  You could also use a gesture or visual signal, like lighting a candle when you feel ready to apologize.”
At first, it was just a spark, a flicker of attraction that grew stronger with each passing day. I found myself thinking about you constantly, daydreaming about the moments we had shared and the moments that were yet to come. And then, before I knew it, I had fallen deep, completely and irrevocable with you. I love the way you make me feel, I feel safe again and comfortable when I’m with a person who truly knows how to love me. I love your quirks, your flaws, and your imperfections, because they are a part of what makes you who you are.
I love the way we fit together, how our lives have intertwined so seamlessly, as if we were meant to be together. I love the way we challenge each other, how we push each other to be our best selves. And I love the way we support each other, how we are always there for each other, no matter what. Falling deep in love with you have been the most beautiful, transformative experience of my life. I thought back then that I’ll stop finding love not until I found someone who knows to love me and deserves me. You have shown me what it means to love unconditionally, to be vulnerable and open-hearted, and to embrace again all of the ups and downs that come with a deep meaningful relationship.
One of the biggest delights of my life is loving you. I always have a smile on my face when I get up for the reason that I know you are there for me. I am appreciative of the ways you enhance my life and feel fortunate to have your affection and company. I admire so many different aspects of you. I keep falling in love with you because of your tender heart, your playful side, your quick wit, and your unaltered support, to name just a few of your qualities. I consider myself fortunate to have discovered someone who, in addition to understanding me, completes me in every way. I am content and pleased when I am with you. The world appears to be more optimistic, and all of my worries have been resolved.
You are my lovely, my girlfriend, and my closest companion. I've learned a lot about myself as a result of falling in love with you. I've developed more empathy and comprehension. I consider myself more lucky to be able to share my experience with you, and I'm dedicated to making sure that you always feel valued and cherished. Although it requires work, showing you the love you deserve is worthwhile. I always make sure to listen to your rants, support you in achieving your aspirations, and show you little acts of love and appreciation throughout the day. Giving you a shoulder and someone to cry on when you’re feeling down, or simply telling you how much you mean to me, I strive to make you feel loved and cherished in every moment.
Seeing you cry because of something I did is a pain I never want to experience again. I know that I have hurt you, and for that I am deeply sorry. Seeing you happy and fulfilled brings me so much joy. When you laugh or smile, my heart swells with happiness. The best compensation I could receive is knowing that I am making a difference in your life. I appreciate how you showed me your love in all of your actions. I value your affection, yes, but I also value the work you put into our relationship. You make an effort to make me feel unique, whether it be by sending me a prose every week, creating beautiful pages, or even by teasing me.
I appreciate your commitment to this relationship and hope to have many more months with you. As the days went by, you adapted to telling me how you felt and what was on your mind. Despite how I might feel, you have become more honest and upfront with me. What really makes you stand out are your comprehension and empathy. Even when we disagree, you have a remarkable capacity for seeing things from other angles, and your willingness to make concessions and look for common ground has been very helpful in overcoming many obstacles. I commit to doing everything in my power to show you the love you deserve as we move forward on our adventure together. I'm excited to share life's struggles with you, grow and fall with you, and celebrate for many more weeks or maybe years to come. Together, let's create a future brimming with love, joy, and laughter.
Happy 1st, my lovey, my girlfriend, my baby and any endearments to speak. You deserve to wake up every morning with a smile on your face and a lightness in your heart. I hope you find this effort of how much you deserve to be loved, appreciated, and cherished, not just by others, but by yourself. I love you, baby. And so, I vow to love you with all I can give, to cherish you every day, and to never take for granted the amazing person you are. Because falling deep in love with you was just the beginning, and I know that our love will only continue to grow stronger with each passing day.
hi op. i hope you're having a wonderful day. i agree with what you said in your post but i hope, and i mean this kindly, that you don't discount the fact that luke did his best to collect what was left of the jedi's teachings in a galaxy where the empire did its best to erase their existence so there aren't that many holocrons or scriptures left. he didn't have the same formal schooling as grogu and ahsoka but yoda himself confirmed that luke was ready to face vader nonetheless. all those years between anh and rotj weren't just luke fighting for the rebellion and floundering with the force, it included him studying and learning and finding jedi artifacts as well. he may not have had as many years in the jedi order as the other jedi post-order 66 like cal or had the same time to train under a master like ezra but luke got to where he is because he worked so hard to become a jedi. his insecurities are still present and he has moments of doubt because he doesn't feel like he is enough. but at least he's doing instead of trying, just as his master yoda taught him.
this is a very long way to say “we agree”, haha??
saying that luke feels like he doesn’t know enough isn’t discounting anything; i’m just repeating what he himself says in tbobf. he essentially says, almost depreciatingly, “[grogu] knows more than i do,” and “i don’t know if i taught him much. it’s more like i helped him remember.”
my one line about Luke feeling like he doesn’t know enough about the Jedi is simply that: he feels like he doesn’t know. he did get the jedi speedrun, because jedi instruction happens over the course of a lifetime, and the empire’s violence stole that education from luke and every other force sensitive that came after the republic’s fall. mentioning that luke doesn’t have the full scope of jedi instruction is not a dig against his character, nor something that needs defending; it’s just a statement of his reality. luke did not receive the full scope of jedi instruction because they were all dead or dying — what teaching he does have comes from his limited time with yoda and ben, and all teaching beyond that has been pieced together from the remnants and artifacts he could find.
luke knew what he needed to know to face vader in battle and in spirit, because he was trained well and is the jedi his father failed to be. being ready for a fight — no matter how daunting! — is not the same as being ready to carry on the thousands of years of history and tradition of a culture. luke isn’t ready! he doesn’t have the benefit of a collective knowledge, or the archives, or other masters! AND THAT’S GREAT, from a character standpoint, because his persistence in the face of hopelessness is a huge part of who he is. luke could have looked around and seen the destroyed temples etc and said, “welp no way i’ll ever learn more about the Jedi, time to give up!” but he doesn’t. he says, maybe most of it is gone, but that doesn’t mean i can’t find what’s left and connect the dots and carry it with me, because the next generation deserves to know as much as i can salvage. that’s amazing. that is an amazing task to take on while still worrying over whether or not you’re good enough to do it, if you’re the right one to do it, if anyone will appreciate your efforts, if anyone will ever know. that’s selflessness in action. that’s a commitment to a culture he never got to experience in totality, that he will spend the rest of his life resurrecting so the next generation can experience it the way he never could. his insecurities about his capacity to execute this vision are important to me to highlight, because they exemplify so many of the themes of star wars. in spite of his fears and concerns, he persists. he does his best. he is not trying, he is doing. examining those insecurities and portraying them when writing about luke matters to me a lot, because if we just look at luke as successful and powerful etc etc etc then we miss a huge part of his character and the themes he embodies. a hero cannot be a hero if we do not know what they fought through to get here, and on a narrative level that fight is often more mental and emotional than physical. his insecurities are an ongoing aspect of the mental and emotional battle that started years ago when he took up the fight against vader and the empire. recognizing them as ongoing, waxing and waning as they do in any real human being, matters.
saying all this to say: you and i share the same belief. i’m not sure what exactly about my last post made you think otherwise. sometimes people conflate acknowledging character “faults” as disparaging them, but i assure you that was not the case in this instance.
ETA: re-reading my earlier post, and i believe i see what set you off. when i said luke “knows jack-all shit” about the jedi, that was a joke.
