You know, media literacy is also important because it helps you pay attention to the way things in stories are framed and the implications of that framing. Like, I'm not forgetting how many people walked away thinking Thanos was right after seeing Infinity War. I mean, in this case, it wasn't entirely those people's fault since the writers made the creative choice to focus on Thanos' anguish after sacrificing Gamora. I cannot be surprised that people were like, 'Aw, how sad. He sacrificed his daughter and is so sad about it. Look how pained he is! Even after succeeding! He's not that bad!' Like you had people supporting genocide all because the guy who did it looked sad about it.

I find it really off-putting how MCU is obsessed with Steve’s virginity like it would make him a lesser man if he never had sex, but there’s also something icky about them implying that Steve was only able to lose his V-card after the serum?
Yes we are shown that Steve wasn’t the best with ladies, but that fact remained even after his transformation. Even after he gained a hundred pounds of muscle he still couldn’t talk to them. But even when he was ninety pound wet asthmatic with scoliosis, he was still the same Steve - brave, standing up for the small guy, sweet, passionate, protective, very talented - I highly doubt nobody saw that in him way before he was in his mid-twenties. It’s canon that Bucky dragged him on many double dates and tried to set him up with people, and saying that nobody cared when Steve was disabled (bc let’s be real, MCU likes to ignore Steve’s background as a disabled Irish-immigrant), it’s almost like they’re saying that not only nobody would ever possibly be sexually interested in a disabled character, but also that nobody really cared about Steve’s character, which was the main trait that drew people to him and made them follow him to death, but only about his looks?? The Commandos, who were all POWs and didn’t know Steve before like Bucky did, decided to follow him back to war not bc he was built like a brick house and had a strong jawline, but because he fought for the right thing, cared about people and could show them on the right path, and was a master strategist. But somehow MCU always wants to diminish him as a macho hunk. They always favour Captain America in favour of forgetting Steve Rogers, the man we fell in love with
Not to mention he was a twink bunking with his bff Bucky Barnes who adored him like don’t tell me they weren’t going at it since they were teenagers but sure let’s make it very clear it was a WOMAN Steve lost his virginity to

I love Doctor Strange (Comics version) and I really want my MCU friends to like Doctor Strange, but they said, he is immature, arrogant and too prideful and a copy of Tony Stark...(were talking about the MCU here) Anyways, I just want them to open their eyes and appreciate Doctor Strange overall character (Comics version here). But I don't know how to explain it or sum up my thoughts on why I love such a character.
If they don't want to touch comics, then I'm afraid I can't do much to help them realize how much of an altruistic, caring and lovable character he is outside of the MCU. MoM is a complicated movie that only fans are capable of reading into his layers and see his growth as a character. It's understandable in DS1 since it's his origin/self-journey as a hero, but I've had my criticisms towards his characterization since IW (which was a very unpopular opinion when the fics went BOOM). Even NWH, which is a movie that I simply ADORE, didn't spare Stephen's arrogance from murdering his true characterization.
What I caaaan do is offer recs for beginners, as I often do. You can check my guides on my pinned posts (need to update them but I'm working on it asap). But if they don't want to go for a Tonyfication that may appear in v4, I'd go all way down to DODS + Strange v3 + DS v6. I know he isn't the protagonist in Strange v3, but it's part of the story, and maybe seeing how Clea praises Stephen's capacity for love may change their perspective?
I don't know if they're willing to read my articles either but well, they exist for a reason, which is newcomers to have a chance and learn that he isn't exactly what the MCU has been portraying lately.
In any case, they're welcome here if they want to learn more! I too changed my mind on many characters throughout the years and even learned to love them with given time and proper reading. It demands a little bit of effort but this is what I do when I'm hyperfixated on my faves haha
You're also welcome here, we gladly built a safe community to show our love for the disaster wizard 💜 Other than that, this is the farthest my persusion goes haha
I rest my case, your honor.

changing kamala's powers in the mcu so she can be a part of 'the marvels' when she's never even been a part of that legacy is fucking insane to me. these writers are so lazy. "oh hey lets change a power that is so intrinsic to her character and also a metaphor for the immigrant experience so we can have our general audiences go "WOOOOO CROSSOVER!!!"" fucking dumb.

The difference between Twilight and the MCU (despite talks of a Twilight reboot being in the works) is Twilight's hold on its genre was temporary. After Breaking Dawn: Part 2, the copycats slowly disappeared and its specific audience was able to grow out of it and find new interests. The MCU, on the other hand, has refused to give itself a break, because Disney's only concern has been staying present in the box office. As a result, they made themselves the "standard" and the "fans" expected all superhero movies be like the MCU. Now, superheroes aren't as "cool" anymore because everything is the same now.
Vampires in media made a comeback because the Twilight hype died down. I think people, as a result, sought vampire content elsewhere, and those who didn't like Twilight could finally tall about vampires without the conversation turning into one about Twilight. That's never been able to happen with the MCU. The only reason there might be a Twilight reboot is because it's been dead long enough for the fanbase to actually miss it and what better time to bring it back then when vampires are popular again and after it has experienced a "renaissance"?
Disney could have paused after Endgame and allowed writers to regroup and think about the direction the franchise could go from there. They too could have experienced a renaissance. But they refused to let the brand die. You cannot be born again without dying first. Now people have lost interest and they have themselves to blame.
PS: Just so it's clear--I hate Twilight and I think it's slimy that it's being brought back now that queer audiences have been able to reclaim vampires. I am just using it as an example since I feel like Twilight is to vampires what MCU is to superheroes.

I’ve said this before and I will continue to say it: the MCU has negatively impacted Hollywood and other aspects of it. There is literally an article out right now in regards to how Marvel treats their special effects artists. A bunch of people refuse to work with them. Think about it, people are refusing to work on a franchise that makes millions!
It’s not just that Marvel pushes out other films in theaters. Any independent film who is hoping to make money better not release their movie when Marvel has one because if you do, your movie is getting overshadowed and possibly pushed out of the theater.
This isn’t just a massive franchise being overrated, it’s about how it’s impacting how people make movies and how they’re being made.
