I mean D20 always provides, we are always fed, but maaaan we're in store for a goddamn feast now lads. Between Burrows End brining Aabria back in to the dome for a longer season (fuck yeah) and the much wished for return of Fantasy High (hoot fuckin growl baby) we are BLESSED this autumn/winter, the pantry is FULL to get us through the cold months and I could not be happier.

hi! your blog is one of my favourites and i absolutely adore reading your thoughts. my grandfather recently passed away and it feels like i lost myself with him. how do i continue living after this? there is this constant weight on my chest and it feels like an emptiness has made a home inside of me. how do i go on when it feels like the world crashed on my shoulders?
hello, love! this is so very sweet and kind of you, and i hope you're treating yourself gently and kindly right now - there aren't words for a loss like this. that heaviness is difficult, and hard, and painful. it's okay if things don't feel okay, right now, or even soon - i think that's something that a lot of the people i know that have gone through similar grief feel: like they should be able to get back to a relative 'normal' in a [insert far too short period of time].
but it's okay if it hurts. that's where i'd like to start. you're allowed to feel that emptiness, that world-crashed feeling that goes beyond words, beyond time. don't feel like you have to rush this to feel some sort of better. things get easier with time, i promise you this, but sometimes painful feelings are important to feel, too. cry, scream, feel your emotions. they're a part of you. grieve.
it's perhaps a little silly, but when i think about death i always think about a couple of space songs: mainly drops of jupiter by train and saturn by sleeping at last. there are perhaps others that speak to the emotions better, but these two have always hit something a little deeper for me, and are popular for a wide-reaching reason.
and while personally i don't know much about grief like this, i do know a lot about love; and i think they're a lot of the same thing.
the people we love are a part of us, and this is why it takes from us so deeply when we lose them, because it does feel like we've lost a part of ourselves in the wake of it. but it's because they were so central to our experiences of living - our lives, that the separation introduces a hollowness - a place where they used to be. a home that now goes unlived in.
an emptiness, like you said.
but just because they're not here physically, doesn't mean he's not still there, in your heart, in your life, your memory. you can hold him close in smaller ways, as well: steal a sweater, or cologne/scent for something a little more physical and long lasting for remembering. hold onto the memories you cherish, the things that made you laugh, the ease of slow mornings and gentle nights. write them all down, slide a few photographs in there, go through it and add more when you miss him. keep them all close, keep them in your heart.
you're not alone, in this. he's still there, with you, it's just - in the little things.
he's with you in the way you see and go about your daily life, in doing what he liked to do, in the ways he interacted with the world that you shared with him. the memories you recall fondly when the night is late or the moment is right and something calls it into you like a melody, an old bell, laughter you'd recognize anywhere.
but i think, perhaps most importantly above all others - talk about him. with your family, your friends, his friends, strangers; stories are how we keep the people we love alive. the connections they've made, the legacies and experiences they've left behind, and so, so many stories.
how lucky, we are - to love so much it takes a piece of us when they go. grief is the other side of the coin, but it does not mean our love goes away. it lives in you. it lives in everyone who knew him, in the smallest pieces of our lives.
the people we love never really leave us, like this: they're in how we cook and the way we fold our newspapers, our laundry, in the radio stations we tune in to and the way we decorate our walls, our photo albums. they're in the way we store our mail, organize our closets, the scribbled notes in the indexes of our books. the meals we love and the drinks we mix, the way we spend time with one another. they've been passed down for generations, for longer than history - and we are all the luckier for it.
think about what you shared with him, and do it intentionally. bring him into your life, like this, again. whether it's crosswords or poetry or sports or anything else. if one doesn't help, try another. something might click.
i hope things feel a little easier for you, as they tend to do only with time. i hope you find joy in your grief, even if it is small and hard to grasp at first. know that your hurt stems from so much love that there isn't a place to put it properly, and that it is something so meaningful and hurting poets and storytellers have been struggling to put it into words and sounds that feel like the fit right for eons, and that it is also just simply yours. sometimes things don't have to make sense. sometimes they just are - unable to be put into words or neat little sentiments, as unfair and tragic as they come.
but i promise it will not feel like this forever. your love is real. and perhaps, on where to begin on from here - i think it's less on finding where to begin and just beginning. and you've already started. you've taken the most important and crucial step: the first one.
wherever you go, after that, from here? you'll figure it out. you always have, and you always do. it'll come, as things always do. love leads us, as does light - and you're never alone in your hurt. in your grief, your missing something dear to you. i think if you talk about it with others, you'll find they have ways of helping you cope as well - and they have so much love of their own to spare, too.
as an aside, here is the song (northern star by dom fera) i was listening to when i wrote this, for no other reason more than it makes me think of connections, and love, and how we hold onto the people we love and how they change us, wonderfully and intrinsically. it's a little more joyous than the others i've mentioned, and plays like a story, and it made me think of what is at the core of this, love and stories and i am here with you, and maybe it'll bring you some joy, if you'd like it. wishing you all my love and ease 💛

General thoughts after watching Season 1 of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender (spoilers may be present)
It's not bad. It's weird, but it's not bad.
No one asked for this.
No one asked, but we got it anyway. So what did we get?
It's not a 1:1 remake. I don't think, despite everything people have worried and griped about before the show's release, anyone wanted that either. It doesn't retain the same character arcs for everyone. Not just Sokka, but everyone.
At the same time, they still have arcs.
They're weird, they feel weird, because this show does what the Shyamalan movie doesn't, and makes an honest effort to capture the essence of the animated show, of the characters, of the world, and there is respect in its efforts.
There are musical motifs from the original. The set designs are out of the original. Many scenes are shot exactly like the original as homages.
And yet, storylines are merged together, elements from later seasons are introduced earlier, character interactions happen differently, character motivations are presented differently, and that feels weird.
We know the motions but when we the audience try to follow them, the show changes its direction and pulls a weird flex out of left field.
I won't say I agree with every major and minor change made, but I'm not enraged or disappointed in the same way as I was (and many of us were) after seeing the movie.
Instead, I'm more inclined to see where these new threads intend to go, and how the story we all know and love can be told in a different way.
Roku had barely a presence in this season, whereas in the original, he was more or less Aang's spiritual teacher. Instead, we've felt more from Kyoshi and Kuruk and Yangchen, and Aang has felt lost in his spiritual journey as well as his physical one.
Ozai, who was just a shadowy one-dimensional nightmare for most of the original first book, is now a more fleshed out figure, but one of confusing motivations. It's not the tonal whiplash of the movie, of the Ozai who legitimately worried and cared about Zuko's well being while also having still scarred and banished him, but one who is playing a 4-D chess game with his kids as the pieces and doesn't care who wins so long as one does.
I don't think it was the right call to have Zuko fight back in the Agni Kai before getting burned, but it gives a different dynamic to Zuko and Ozai's relationship that he's not the towering, shadowy Mark Hamill terror Zuko cowers before.
This Zuko seems legitimately convinced Ozai cares about him and all it takes is the Avatar to win his full love back, whereas there's still bitterness in the OG Zuko of book one. He knows Ozai favors Azula over him, he knows he's had to struggle well before being banished.
I also think not casting Dee Bradley Baker was a mistake. But they have time to correct that mistake.
All the kid actors, being green, of course do not stand up to expressive and gorgeous animation with brilliant voice acting. But they are all giving it their best, and I think they have what it takes to grow into the Book 3 Team Avatar if they get the chance.
The music got to me a number of times, particularly the instrumental renditions of "Leaves From the Vine."
Do we need this show? No absolutely not.
We have the original ATLA, and we always will. It's a timeless classic of our generation. Nothing could ever compete with it or ruin it.
However, I do feel like this adaptation is worth giving a chance to stand on its own. It may be far from perfect, but after watching it through, I legitimately want to see where it goes from here. I want to see this cast grow and change in their own ways. I want to see Toph in live action. I want to see Ba Sing Se. I want to see the new directions this story chooses to take to end up in the same place at Sozin's Comet.
But that might not happen if Netflix decides to cancel it, and I think that would be a shame.
I really do think it's worth seeing this show through, for better or worse.
Overall, as a show, I would give it a modest 7/10. (With individual elements skewing higher or lower throughout)
I don't like that it's only 8 episodes, but that's been a trend of other streaming shows also, across platforms, so I cannot fault NATLA alone for that.
You don't NEED to have seen the original to understand what's happening or get key details (unlike SOME adaptations have been doing recently). You can get a complete picture with just this. Is it as pretty or vibrant as the original? No. But it is still a whole picture (or, could be, with all three seasons).
It has great effects, sets, props, choreography, good music. It has SUKI. And JET. and JUNE. And THE Cabbage Man!
AND OMA/SHU ARE LESBIANS! I mean, I see that as an absolute win.

Piarles Fantasy Fest 2023
Hello fellow Piarlies ❤️💙 We as the Calamars Club Discord server have noticed that there aren’t that many Pierre/Charles fantasy-themed fics out there, so we are calling on all of you to help us change that.
As the title suggests, this is a Piarles-centric fest, focusing specifically on bringing more fantasy-themed Pierre&Charles content into the world. 🔮👻😈👼🧛♂️🐺🧟♂️🎃🧚♂️🤴😍
First and foremost...
A shoutout to our incredible @river-ocean, who is the genius behind our beautiful banner for this exchange. Thank you so much, River, we all love and appreciate you so very much ❤️💙
What is Fantasy?
We are defining Fantasy as anything that’s "not from the real world." The term fantasy can be quite subjective, but essentially we are including anything with magical, fantastical, or supernatural elements.
If you’re unsure if your idea falls under the scope of ‘Fantasy’, you are more than welcome to message any of the fest mods to check! (Hint: It probably does.)
Does Fantasy include soulmates/omegaverse/hanahaki/aliens/Harry Potter AU/LOTR AU/GOT AU/zombies/superheroes?
Yes! All of the above, and more... ❤️
What are the rules?
Your work should be a minimum of 2000 words, or the equivalent in art.
Your work should include an element of fantasy.
Your work must include Pierre and Charles as the main pairing. Side-pairings are all good, as long as Piarles remains the main focus of your fic.
Key Dates
Sign-ups: 21st - 28th May (Please note that you can sign up late! There is no real hard deadline on this).
Check-in: 24th June
Fics due: 7th July

We want this Fest to be a fun and lowkey one for everyone, so if at any point you need an extension, please just message a Mod and we will be more than happy to help. 💙
How do I sign up?
Please sign up using the Google Form linked here.

How can I get involved?
Whether you plan on creating something for the Fest or you want to cheer on our creators, you are more than welcome to join us in the Calamars Club Discord server, if you're not already a part of it! There, we have a special channel dedicated exclusively to this fest 👀✨ ✨✨

Meeting All of Def Leppard in Sheffield!!!!
Yes, really! and no this wasn't part of a meet and greet or anything, I just happened to be incredibly blessed that weekend🥰 so sit back, relax, get your snacks, and lemme give you a comprehensive timeline of how I met the guys!
So you guys all know my interaction with Sav at the album signing, if not read about it here, but that was my only interaction with Sav.
other than that, my friends happened to be staying at the same hotel that the Leppards and their crew were!
the only one of the Leppard crew who wasn't staying there was Sav, because he was staying at his house (he lives in Sheffield so ig it makes sense) but yeah that was why we didn't see him at all after the signing.
also the man is illusive af so even if he was staying at the hotel we prob wouldn't have seen much of him😅
Right, now time for the others!
The next Leppard I met (and I still genuinely cannot believe this) was Joe!
We got back to the hotel after the concert and he was just… there? In the lobby/restaurant area? WHAT?
I will admit that I did feel a little bad going up to him as he seemed like he just wanted to hang out with his friends who were all there, but at this point I didn’t know that they were staying at the hotel so I didn’t know if I’d ever get this opportunity again.
He was sO NICE and sO TIPSY LMAO
We didn’t say much to each other apart from the usual “the show was amazing!” And “Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it” kinda routine bUT STILL I WAS TALKING TO JOSEPH ELLIOTT HIMSELF ANYTHING WAS MORE THAN AMAZING
he is also vERY tall in person
Like I knew he was like 6′3 or something like that but my short ass just did not expect him to be that tall for some reason
But yeah that was that
Another fun thing was that we stayed in the lobby for a little while and we could just hEAR him laughing and talking
Something I learned about Joe Elliott on this trip is that tHE MAN IS LOUD WHEN TIPSY
Just as we were about to retire for the night, in walks The Thundergod himself, Mr Rick Allen!
Of course we got a picture with him and he was very intent on taking it himself in selfie mode LMAO
(my friends were in this too but I decided to crop them out bc I wasn't sure if they wanted to be on Tumblr or not)
HE IS SO LOVELY AAAAAAA
Cut to the next day, I meet my friends in Starbucks, and we weren’t in there more than 10 mins, and Rick walks in!
My friend apparently had always wanted to buy him coffee, so the went up and paid for his order aWWW
he then proceeded to come and sit at our table and we just... talked?
as if we were old friends?
WHAT?
HE IS SO NICE AND SO CHARMING AND SO FUNNY I JUST AWWW
we ended up running into him a lot that day and the next, and he genuinely seemed happy to see us!
at one point he said “greetings earthlings” to us and did the Star Trek salute
long story short for about 48 hours we became best friends with Rick Allen and I miss him every day
Next up: Phil
our first interaction was very generic (well as generic as you can get when you're literally meeting one of your favourite people on the entire planet)
we ran into him in the lobby of the hotel and we talked about the concert for a bit
he said he was super excited for the rest of the tour AWW
we saw him a couple of other times that day but other than a “hello” and a smile we didn't bother him at all
we would have done the same whenever we saw Rick but I cannot stress enough that HE was the one coming up to US when ever he saw us
later that day we also saw Joe again but we didn't go up to him as he was with Jess and Mike and seemed busy ( he was honestly probably going out to film something👀)
Ok this next part might be a lil sad
But we also went to visit Steve🥺
I didn’t expect to cry, but as soon as the three of us laid eyes on his gravestone we just all broke down into tears.
There was a lot of lil bits of memorabilia there that looked like they had been there for a long time, mostly guitar picks and lil notes.
But the part that got us? There was a picture of him and Phil there which you can just about see in the first photo
Not me crying again rn
But we have him some flowers (which we all wrote a note on) and I also gave him a guitar pick.
I’d actually found this guitar pick on the floor in Brighton a few weeks ago, and it was from a music touring company. I’d completely forgotten I’d left it in my bag, but I think it was absolutely a sign when I found it on the floor.
Everything felt so heartbreakingly perfect
We got to share this little moment with him💜
Ok sad stuff over
Cut to the next day, we’re back at Starbucks again getting breakfast. surely nothing else out of the ordinary could happen, right?
well that was proven wrong when VIVIAN CAMPBELL WALKED IN HKSFBKFJS
seriously we weren’t even planning to stay in there wE WERE IN THERE FOR LIKE FIVE MINUTES TO GET BREAKFAST AND THEN GO
anyways I got to give him one of my art prints
I actually forgot to say I gave one to Rick as well as Sav
well I gave one to Scott (sav’s son who I saw at the OAC pop up) and he said he would give it to Sav AWW
the only one I didn't give a print to was Joe and im sO MAD bc I made a bunch of Joe prints to give out to the fans at the concert and over the weekend bUT I FORGOT TO SAVE ONE FOR THE MAN HIMSELF AAAAAH IM SORRY JOE
I can just imagine all the guys showing each other their prints and Joe being like 🥺why didn't I get one?
I WILL GET A PRINT TO JOE IF IT KILLS ME DW THIS IS NOW MY MISSION
ANYWAYS Viv was super cool but super shy aww so it didn't seem right to ask him for a picture
[EDIT] idk how I forgot this part but Viv actually recognised me from the signing???!!!! He said “aw I recognise you, you were the one with Sav’s jacket😃” I kept my cool somehow but I was fREAKING OUT
esp in the cafe where I don’t think he wanted attention drawn to him😅
also side note I can confirm that Viv is absolutely ripped irl like bRUUUH👁👄👁
everyone talks about how buff phil is but nO ONE TALKS ABOUT VIV
soz but that just needed to be said.
we decided to stay in the lobby and ofc we saw the leppards a bunch again
literally it was so surreal
just as they were getting ready to check out Joe came out of the elevator and said “good morning ladies” to us
we all just collectively internally screamed
we said some other things to him and vice versa but my brain was going 100 miles an hour (BC THAT’S JOE ELLIOTT RIGHT THERE TALKING TO US?) so I honestly dont remember what exactly we were saying😅
another fun thing was that my friend had gifted him a shirt at the signing aND THE MAN WAS WEARING IT AS HE WAS CHECKING OUT
IT WAS SO SWEET AND WE ALL JUST CRIED
and then as he walked out he said “ladies I bid you adieu”
*more internal feral screaming*
Viv also went to check out and Caitlin (his wife) was with him and I stg she gave me a death glare LMAO
I honestly don’t think she meant to lol but it was still funny
like don’t worry I'm not gonna steal your man calm down
I managed to stop Phil just in time to give him one of my art prints!
one of my friends also had a programme from the Pyro days that had a double page pic of the guys and everyone had their signature (yes this even had Steve’s signature) apart from Phil
and she finally got to complete it by asking him to sign it!
the best part about this was that he seemed so genuinely happy to see Steve’s signature
he then gAVE ME AND HER HUGS WTF FHDHDHSH
we both then cried 😃
like literally we were both so overwhelmed (in a good way) that we just had to let it all out
and just like that, they were on their way to the airport
when I left for Sheffield four days prior I had no idea that when I left, I could say I'd had conversations with all five of my favourite people in the world.
hopefully this was the first time of many I’ll see them!

the 2023-24 NBA city edition tierlist, in collaboration w THE genius @swinginsportscutebasketball
(complete notes and insightful discussion under the cut lol)
S tier: pacers, pelicans, suns
pacers: great colors, spray paint is cool, they tried something new which is great, font is cool. 10/10
pelicans: cool font, love a magic and mystery theme. glowing lights of new orleans and a BONE PELICAN?? don't need to say any more. one of the coolest ones they've ever done.
suns: like the font, like the gradient on the side and in the number, like that it says El Valle, like the colors
A tier: hawks, celtics, warriors, cavs, mavs, pistons
hawks: like the font (serif and lower case are not common on jerseys, so it's interesting). blue is a lil weird (not a color one would associate w hawks usually) but cool overall
celtics: like the colors (green and gold are nice), letter and number font are cool, clean design, looks good on the players
warriors: like how it's shaped like a hill, like the shadow on the numbers, looks clean and I like the font
cavs: good font, good color. gold = nice, we like it. details around the arms and neck are cool, numbers font RULES
mavs: like the fonts for the text and numbers, solid design. like that leon bridges is involved because he rules
pistons: team name font is cool, also has bones (on the side), like the bad boy pistons inspo!!!
B tier: spurs, magic, jazz, blazers, grizz
spurs: viva spurs fr. like the font choices, like the orange, like that it says viva spurs. the brown details don't even look bad. solid jersey
magic: should be called gift of the magi, gothic script is cool, star as the A in orlando RULES, numbers font is cool
jazz: classic one w the mountains (top 3 design imo), not groundbreaking but a solid take on an old favorite
blazers: like the plaid, like that it says rip city because that's funny. plaid not that striking overall since it's just in the details
grizz: geta points for creativity but loses points due to weird execution (MEM is a weird choice and the lines get kinda trippy if you look at them for too long)
C tier: lakers, bucks, hornets, sixers, bulls, knicks
lakers: solid color scheme, looks like a nice lakers jersey. looks good on the players at least. triangle shape is unique
bucks: why is it blue (they literally do this every year). the dots are a solid detail but kinda meh overall
hornets: same as every other year (except for the clit jerseys last year). 0 creativity points. nice color, stingers on the buzz city are cute
sixers: solid number font. "city of brotherly love" is a good moniker but "brotherly" takes up A Lot of space here and makes it look weird. arrows on the sides are cool
bulls: Madhouse on Madison is a cool name, but it's kinda boring. a bit TOO plain. we are not fans of the vertical lettering
knicks: the double letters are a cool concept but they look weird. pinstripes are cool tho
agree to disagree tier: nets, rockets
nets: some controversy about how NeTs is written (I like the funky letters, sscb dislikes them), looks like it's trying to camouflage with a rock climbing wall (neither of us likes it)
rockets: the number and font look like a kids' t-ball team to sscb, but I like the number font and the details. Neck line detail also solid to me (fbp)
why does this look like the Oakland forever one tier: thunder
thunder: what it says on the tier title. went all in on the ugliest logo in the league, colors are nice but they don't really match the team
D tier: raptors, twolves, clips, kings
raptors: sawtooth design is cool. gold is nice for details but a full gold jersey does NOT look good. round toronto = doesn't fit, we are not fans. we the north in various languages on the sides is cool
twolves: bad font, the watercolor design is cool but the color is too plain and it doesn't look as good on the front. don't need to say "land of 10.000 lakes" up the side too
clips: boring design. not sure about the font (S and P are Weird). the dot on the I being a basketball is cool. wanted to like it but it's too boring overall.
kings: WRONG color!!! why would you go away from purple which rules as a basketball color. the anniversary of the cincinatti royals is not an excuse imo. vertical lettering also weird
HELL tier: heat, nuggets, wizards
heat: CRINGE. fuck the heat (fbp)
nuggets: every player is number 5280. why is it the same size as the player's number. mountains (the best part) should be more prominent. like the idea but the execution is just BAD
wizards: kinda messy. the colors are SO random, font is weird to me. WHY is it rusted. all over the place tbh
