so I've finally caved to peer pressure and started reading Red, White & Royal Blue (it was all the it's so Merthur coded! posts which finally did it :P)
Four chapters in I at long last understand all the baffling Young Royals fic and fandom quirks and phrases and seeming references which always confused the shit out of me, so I guess that's something lol
On a random and completely unrelated side note, I hate when AO3 is down and if it isn't back within the next ten minutes you'll have to wait until tomorrow for the next chapter of The Prince and the Barista.

It's forever going to bother me how there was this perfect potential for ted and rebecca to have this wonderful and beautiful romantic relationship built on trust, a mutual understanding and care for each other, with all of the things the writers put in the show, parallels, moments, whether intentional/not intentional and they just decided to tease/make fun of us all over it, instead of seeing what they had there was gold.
two middle-aged traumatised people whose previous relationships weren't all that they thought, who are literal soulmates because of the events that shaped their life involving their fathers, happened on the same day at the same time (which is then never brought up again) and it all meant nothing but just a parallel for the sake of parallels (to make them look way more smart than they actually are), like so many others... It was all there for them to use and instead they have rebecca settle for fine with some guy she met once, who doesn't even get a name (on screen) and ted leaves rebecca crying in the airport... that's that.

my favourite part in the Iliad was when Helen was grieving Hector and she was saying how he never told her a bad word like other relatives of Paris did and she says " not like my mother-in-law...but my father-in-law is okay tbh" the classic mother-in-law vs bride drama transcends millenias

You know I think one of my biggest gripes with the Rwrb movie is that the scene in the palace after Henry ghosts Alex wasn’t more dramatic.
Ok sure, we don’t get to see Alex raging in the rain screaming up at Kensington Palace.
But you’re telling me we ALSO don’t get “I want you” “then fucking HAVE me”
“Tell me to leave”
“Fuck you”
Followed by a desperate kiss?
It would have been BETTER and we deserved it.

people who are mad about the rwrb movie because it's not a page for page adaptation of the book are wrong because that's not how movies work and the real issue is that they included too MUCH from the book which made the movie feel rushed and lacking in depth
people who are mad about the rwrb movie because it's "bad" are wrong because it was never meant to be that serious and ignoring the actual genre of the movie and expecting prestige filmmaking from a direct to streaming summer rom com that was only ever meant to be harmless fun is cynical and stupid
i am the only person with correct opinions about the rwrb movie
