like. arguably, taigen would be a better romantic partner (per the ideals of his time and culture of course), or at least he would be on paper. cuz i mean as a husband, as he is now, i think he'd be awful. but i'm talking about if you and him were dating or courting or just seeing each other romantically, he would be good to you. like we saw how he behaved with akemi and he was nothing but sweet and gentle. the very reason akemi wanted to marry him so bad was because she KNOWS without a doubt that he respects women and would treat her well. "oh but he cheated on her with the prostitutes while celebrating his engagement!" yeah but per the norms of the time and place, it was not considered cheating and akemi (as well as any wife or romantic partner of that period) would not have minded or even cared.

and yes taigen IS an asshole and he IS obnoxious but come on. so is mizu, if she is allowed to act like herself around you. mizu will tease you and mock you and challenge you and even poke at your insecurities (see:her goading mikio on even though he clearly did not view her teasing as light-hearted banter and took it all very personally). she would tell you to your face if she thinks you're being annoying (see:mizu rolling her eyes and telling akemi to straight up just "shut up" when she'd believed mizu had killed taigen).

mizu is not merely a hot and talented badass with a sword and the insane hyperfocus on her desire for revenge which literally drives her to withstand like, extreme amounts of damage and survive it. mizu is also flawed and the show does a good job at showcasing this, and showing us that she's not merely a victim but also a multilayered person. we see throughout that mizu is blunt and sarcastic and prideful.

oh what's that? oh right, very similar to taigen, who is also hot and talented with a sword and with insane hyperfocus on his desire to duel mizu and regain his honour. taigen who is also flawed (though, arguably, more so) as he is blunt and sarcastic and prideful.

the only thing that sets mizu and taigen apart is the fact that taigen is a man and is not mixed race, which thus affects their positions in society and how people perceive them. these are external factors. taigen being a boy who is not blue-eyed allowed him to easily mingle with the other kids in the village, all of whom were similarly fed the same prejudiced values which led them to gang up against mizu and bully her.

but take all that away. strip them down to the bare essentials. suddenly it's like they are the same person copy and pasted.

and that's what makes them even more interesting. yes absolutely they would be toxic. whatever souls are made of, mizu's and taigen's are the same (derogatory). and we literally see them fight all the time!!!! but the thing is they are both deranged when it comes to this.

do you get me. they both literally get turned on by sparring. mizu's whole spar with mikio was her way of flirting. just look at how she smirked at him and said "unsheathe it" like it's clear that this is an innuendo of not just unsheathing his weapon but also what's in his pants. then during the chopsticks fight with taigen in the snow, despite mizu literally being injured and taigen trying to attack her, mizu gets attracted to him. meanwhile taigen got a boner after wrestling with her in the forge.

taigen goes around saying he wants to kill mizu to regain his honour but he still literally risks life and limb for her constantly. mizu gives ringo stomach ulcers by going around flinging herself into near-death situations 24/7. she ups and leaves her beloved swordfather with barely a goodbye twice to pursue her batshit far-fetched quest for revenge (against people she doesn't even KNOW btw because she literally starts off with practically No Leads and not even knowing the NAMES of the white men who are her maybe-fathers).

these bitches are crazy and you know what good for them. that shit needs to be contained and quarantined though and that's why in that sense they would be good together.

i want to put them both in a jar and shake it very hard and see what happens. personally i think they will argue and insult each other while working perfectly in sync with each other to break out of the jar and then proceed to kill me and make out sloppy style over my dead body while they're both covered in blood.

I think the concept behind Grizz is solid: a Former Bear who inadvertently Ship Of Theseus'd himself into Not Being A Bear Anymore ties neatly into the running theme of Judd and Lil Judd being the Only Mammals left: Mr. Grizz, whatever he is now, no longer counts as a mammal. But in execution... Yeah. They should have focused on the "Ship Of Theseus angle" and the fact that, in his attempts to bring back mammals, he's become more like the organisms that he's trying to destroy.

Ive gotten about a good few dozen comments on YT about this exact thing. but half of them being annoyingly condescending in the process for not bringing up this analysis in my Live (keyword live) reaction of me hating on the bear. i dont think ive really addressed how i feel about this particular thing because of how rude ppl were, but its been a while and youre being nice so long post incoming Anyway yes im very much aware of this 'ship of Theseus angle to grizz, I did see that "in defense of grizz" video. And honestly I do agree it is something about him that has interesting potential if they'd leaned into it more. Much of my distaste with the ending of ROTM is the build up and execution. They made the bear foreshadowing laughably obvious years too early, and then all the poor fools like me who care too much about splatoon's story had faith that "surely the splatoon team, who just made a story as surprising and serious as Octo Expansion, wouldn't handle foreshadowing the identity of their next major villain that badly" took the biggest L. IF the splatoon team had been more blatant that the Judds were the last mammals left throughout the series (the only time it was directly stated that all mammals were extinct before ROTM? in a dev interview. and for years nobody wanted to believe it whenever i tried bringing it up lmao.) if they weren't that on the nose about the bear imagery. if the only solid piece of deception they had about Grizz not being a bear in the entirety of splatoon canon wasn't in a paid artbook... if they were more deceptive about the fact, I'm sure i wouldve been a bit more accepting of the idea of him secretly being a bear from earlier on, and it would've been a cooler reveal. But surface level knowledge should be called into question by looking at the deeper evidence, not the other way around.

The ineffectiveness of the bear reveal is a culmination of Splatoon doing a frankly, bad job at putting whats supposed to be basic, important, worldbuilding knowledge in the game. I think the intended effect of the bear reveal was that the general audience of fans were supposed to have been like "woah, but all mammals are supposed to be all dead holy shit i cant believe hes a bear." and that info was supposed to put a wedge in the bear theories. but when 95% of the player-base anticipating splatoon 3 had no idea that all mammals (except the judds) are supposed to be extinct in the splatoon world and how that's an important part of its worldbuilding up until the announcement of the story mode, if at all...idk man thats pretty bad.

The way the info about mammal extinction was worded in the official news posts sounds like it was supposed to be common knowledge for Splatoon fans, not a surprise like it ended up being.

Anyway back to the execution, it would've been cooler if they'd leaned into that horror element, the fact that he's hardly even a mammal anymore. I think the implication is there. It is cool and fucked up in Splatoon's signature way! But again, I agree it would be better if it was played up or even acknowledged once directly, like in log.exe. Even with all the potential for bear Mr. Grizz to be cool, the years of too-blatant foreshadowing leading to a frustratingly disappointing reveal and the exact annoying plot holes i feared of has permanently soured the concept of him being a bear to me.

To all the mean/disrespectful rinas in your asks, I have to say this: The only reason why I hate rina is the hate I saw from a part of the rina fandom. Yes, I've seen so much hate coming from that part of the fandom that I can't even watch a rina scene without being annoyed... Josh and Sofia are great actors. I admit that they have chemistry, BUT I can't help but hate to see their characters together on screen bc of all the hateful comments I saw from that fandom (what you got from rinas is nothing compared to what I saw on Twitter, if you don't have Twitter, don't go there, it's terrible... Ppl really tell others to k themselves over a disney ship...). kinda thinking about stuff based on a sort of weird ask an artist I follow got

The ask was basically a “how come I can’t make a fandom around this new story you did” bc the artist is selling a sort of abstraction of their own experiences as a comic using what they enjoy

don’t think I gotta explain how rude that actually is, and I’m not writing this as a “oh I’m so much better” type thought

But having been on tumblr I had interacted within fandoms, but I don’t really recall any of them, it was mainly ask blogs, and I even created a few short lived ones bc it just wasn’t interesting for me (and one case where the only other person who knew about the obscure anime went and drew cp of one of the main characters so? I was gone. Can’t enjoy that anymore, really wish I could. But I have that image burned in my mind and when I confronted them they refused by the “technically an adult” excuse even though this was a character shown at different ages, weird how they wouldn’t use the adult version but they didn’t like me saying that.)

The only real “fandom” I’ve ever actually been concretely into is Pokémon, but after I grew up more I didn’t make original characters who were Pokémon, and while I tried to rp I didn’t understand how it worked, so I mostly made up stories for myself that were just things I wanted, where Pokémon was the vehicle and medium

I enjoy creating aus for things I like if it works? But I wouldn’t say I’m a fandom person. The way tumblr(the culture of a portion of the site) looks at fandom has always been strange to me, even as I hyperfixate. I kind of thought something was wrong with me…? Like was I consuming media wrong? I don’t ship often, or think too far into headcanons, I mainly take it apart and see what info is in the media. I may draw conclusions but often this is done by myself

Often I’ll sort of enjoy something, maybe even love it, have a phase and then move on- if I talk about it w others it’s via analyzing it or just being excited about it, seeking out fanart… (blocking ppl who are Annoying or doing a They Would Not Fucking Say That or a weird version of the character that is bastardized)

If I put it in statistical terms it’s like I interpolate data (information) instead of extrapolate… like I go between points of info instead of going too far outside of the story, maybe because I’ve only ever seen one exploration of the concept that actually worked- one random disco elysium fic that essentially made its own new case for Kim and harry. Some things were a lil clumsy, but they actually were very careful w balancing characterization, themes, and ideas to create something new that wasn’t alienating. It was nice to finally understand how people talk about good fanfics. But uh, I avoided fanfic bc they usually alienated me due to inconsistencies or focused on shipping or a specific idea that didn’t really mesh

Idk, I have stories I hold dear to me, but fandom ocs usually either sorta die off or are adapted to a regular oc. I can make the number of ships I enjoy on one hand… I just like stories

Even when YGO was first airing in the US, once I got internet like a year into it, I remember "Puppyshipping" being THE most popular ship. Certainly was at least one of the biggest.

The discourse was about whether it was abusive, but it was all incoherent nonsense on both sides, with varying degrees of seriousness. I might've posted 1 time on the kaiba corporation forum my own opinion: in-world, yes abusive. in-fics, usually abusive. does this mean ppl shouldn't do it? nah, whatever. I understand why the dynamic interests people. Ship and let ship. Not my ship, though. Could never be.

See, my brother & I -unused to anime aside from Pokemon- thought we should root for only Main Character TM, but soon after jumped on our faves. Mai & Kaiba for me. He stuck with Yugi more to annoy me, & Joey as the blonde underdog in green (like himself; & this smelly green soccer jersey he never changed or washed cuz it was his "Joey shirt" 🤮).

So for me, it personally always felt skeevy to ship my faves with my brother's faves.

I started getting over it once Joey became obsessed with Mai in Waking the Dragons, but the little-brother-protector thing id with Kaiba was still stronger. Plus my brother spent the season annoyed with Joey's pining & hating Mai for her betrayal, so that helped disconnect them there.

I didn't really get into it the slightest bit til I came to tumblr, & I was part of the convo to rename it "violetshipping" to address the unwelcome default feeling of an abuse undertone & instead focusing on their complementary parallels & contrasts (which we all casually agreed was ok, canon, ic, but shouldn't be assumed within the very ship name), around the same time my relationship with my brother began deteriorating. So even though I got him into one last hurrah with DSOD, he's basically been lost to the right.

Tumblr's format also makes it a lot easier to stumble upon lots of things that just go by on your dash. I don't even remember seeing any puppyshipping fanart in the old forums & webrings of geocities & DeviantArt & AOL image searches, cuz I never searched for it. Read a couple fics trying to give it a chance, but they always ended up grossing me out with characterizations alone.

But ya know what I never did? Never actually called it incest, even though that's what it felt like to me in my own unique experience. & I never said *anything* to people online who shipped it. I did talk about it with friends in school, where you would've seen my full body language reaction for "I don't wanna be rude - I'm just reeeally not into it - cuz my brother - so I don't wanna talk about it." Which was perfectly fine & accepted!

Who *did* I ship Kaiba with? Well, most in-character? No one. As in he would actively choose no one. As sexy as he was, I didn't see him being interested in pursuing any kind of relationship or sex. (It would take another several years before I ever saw the term "asexual," to which my first reaction was, Oh! Like Kaiba!

I've used the joke of shipping him with money.

But once I found Silentshipping, I was hooked. They had interacted ONCE when Serenity yelled at him, & he was just like "Uhh..." where if it were a Disney movie, that'd be where he fell in love but hadn't realized it yet. Then they NEVER interacted again. Serenity hardly had much of a personality beyond "nice." It was a perfect blank slate to make anything up! & she was perfectly generic for girls to project onto, without fear of being called a self-insert or Mary Sue -the biggest worries of the time.

But I also loved how it connected Joey & Kaiba as, usually, either eventually or at least effectively, brothers-in-law, still pitted against each other. To me, it was sooo much better than actually putting them together.

Am I the only one who doesn’t get why some (tw) are shitting on Haru and Rin separately just for the fact that they reciprocate each others feelings? Hehe welcome to the madness, perfect time to join! Yeah, tbh that's the thing in the fandom that always bugged me the most. The fact that some act like if you don't reciprocate someone's feelings, it makes you a bad person. I always found it incredibly cringy when ppl in real life for example make ppl feel guilty for not feeling the same way and make you feel like shit bc of it. I don't get why you have to apologize for that or feel bad, if you never ever gave him any hope or anything in the first place.

Nowdays it's thankfully a rare sight already in this fandom, bc most already grown and see perfectly what's truly healthy and unhealthy, it's just tbh only the same 3 accounts ppl keep sending me that are still on that, who also think that Haru is literally possessed in the last movie so I don't see the point of like arguing with ppl like this. It's just they're always getting extremely angry when Haru wants Rin as if it's his fault that he feels this way and always go about it like he is inconsiderate of Makoto's feelings. Implying that they're mad that he doesn't feel that way about Makoto, while Makoto does. I'm same as @tododeku-or-bust for example said here (idk what fandom brought this on, but just in general) also do not get what's appealing about this kind of relationships in the first place.

In real life if you found out that your bestie feels that way for you while you don't reciprocate, it's a burden, that'll make you feel uncomfortable and at times guilty when you shouldn't technically feel that way. So putting on someone a burden of "I was pining for you all along", when you know they don't feel the same is giving me this feeling of cringe. So I personally do not get what's enjoyable at seeing it like that in Free. But to each their own kink lmao.

It's like... is Haru at fault for the fact that he was Ikuya's first love too? I do not get it really. Like he doesn't have to take responsibility for everyone who falls for him and he doesn't owe anyone to reciprocate their feelings. Even to Rin. Like if he didn't feel the same way for Rin, it wouldn't be his fault either. But since he does feel the same way for him, it's like... good, great, happy for them.

Like once again if someone believes that Makoto and Sousuke are unrequitedly in love with Rin and Haru, that's not rinharu fault. Haru literally never ever lead Makoto on EVER. He never ever did anything that would make Makoto believe that they're more than friends. He was always honest about everything. Like when Makoto thought that he went out to see him, but Haru just wanted to see the sunrise, he told him just that. He never encoraged anything, he refused to live with him and never wanted. I do not get why it's supposed to be his fault that he doesn't like his friend in that way. If Makoto has some unrequited feelings for him and decided to hang up on this, it's his own life choice in my opinion.

It's like saying that Onodera and Takano for example don't deserve to be together just because they unintentionally hurt each other and got separated for 10 years bc of misunderstanding. This argument is like typical Yokozawa life position aka "but I was there when he left you heartbroken for several years, that means you MUST pick me". As I've said before, that's just not how it fucking works. And just bc they couldn't explain things to each other normally, doesn't mean that they don't deserve be happy now. Being idiots is not a crime.

Or if you came from chinese bl, lets go "Guardian" for example. Zhu Hong also was on about how "why you love Shen Wei, not me, I always did everything for you and I was always there, I even wore heels bc you once said you liked those etc". Like he never asked her to do this, he never gave her any hope, he was beyond rude and open about the fact that he's not interested, he never did anything to make her think she had a chance since the beginning. Just bc she decided to dedicate her life to false hope that maybe one day something might change is not his fault. It was her choice. I was always saying this like since forever, being kind doesn't mean for example giving everyone second chances, loving everyone, wanting to be friends with anyone etc. In some situations it's not being kind, it's being stupid or even not being a good person. Once again... offering someone friendship after he openly dissed your friend and you see that he's not in any position to talk back is not kind. Or if someone cheats on you constantly, but you always forgive them it's also not you being kind. It's you being stupid. Sometimes you have to be harsh. It's for the greater good.

And like I saw several times stuff like someone under scenes where Rin has his eyes for Haru only, commenting like "oh great, look at Rin being inconsiderate of Sousuke's feelings again. Can't believe you guys find this romantic." I mean, if in their opinion Sousuke is in pain from being Rin's friend, he can end it, it's his choice. It's not Rin's fault that he thinks of him as just his friend. So thinking that Rin is an asshole bc each time he simply hangs out with Sousuke he's a selfish bitch is fucking insane. I'd feel extremely bad if my best friend was seeing it this way for example. It's like hella ugly.

This annoys me also bc of the fact that Rin, the person who at the age of 12 single-handedly saved his family from falling apart after his father's death, who's an amazing friend to Sousuke and did everything to make his happy after he found out about his trauma and always checks on him first and cries about his shoulder, who in the late evenings taught Rei to swim, when everyone else gave up already xD, who was looking after Nitori during his training, who pretends to walk the same road, just because he's scared to let Gou return alone in the evenings, the most amazing son and brother, is suddenly an asshole just because Haru is in love with him, but not with Makoto. I mean, thats just... huh? Like I dont mind you ship what you want to ship, it's like to each their own crayons for real. But like dissing them and call them selfish just bc they only see their friends as friends and don't want anything more is weird to me.

As for the fact that bc of the misunderstanding they don't deserve to be happy, that's just idiotic. I mean, lets punish Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan too just bc Lan Zhan couldn't voice his real feelings back then and bc WWX misunderstood him. Lets ship WWX with Wen Ning instead. Nezumi is cancelled, he doesn't deserve to be with Shion. He left him. Takano should stay with Yokozawa, Onodera is trash. Wu Xie is trash for wanting to be with Zhang Qiling too. It doesn't matter why he leaves, it only matters that he always does. I can't believe he doesn't see that Pangzi is there with him all along xD. What an ungrateful trash of a human being I can't even.

And anyways btw both Rin and Haru are not ideal human beings in any way (otherwise I wouldn't love them this much tbh xD). But their flaws are definitely not what for example mh shippers usually blame them for. You can argue about their other imperfections easily. Like being stupidly stubborn for example. I won't point fingers here, Haru lolz. Or literally anything else.

My point is you can find what to trash them for logically, if you wanna. Do it smartly tho. Otherwise you make your ship look bad.

And I once again say what wise person said about his relationships and about the fact that not being able with someone he loves hurt him and 'why is he doing this to himself' he answered: "it's not on him. my happiness and my pain is for me to handle". Everyone decides for themselves. This is why for example Haru was so broken about voicing this to Rin and didn't have any intentions to tell him that in the first place. Bc it's not right, if you're not sure that it's requited. Technically he has no right to blame Rin for making him fall in love with him and then leaving in the first place. It's not Rin's fault really, that he made him feel what he feels for him, it's ultimately Haru's problem. That's why he feels has no right to blame him in the first place. I mean, he doesn't know that Rin feels the same, that means saying to him "you break my heart each time you leave" and making him feel bad about it is technically wrong. That's why Haru to himself said "no, please, don't say such things to him". Everyone for himself decides who deserves your 5, 7, 800 or 10000 years of your pain. It's your decision. It's your life. If Haru feels like Rin is worth it, then you have no say in that matter really. The only reason we call Rin an idiot or Haru an idiot is because we know they feel the same, so we can. But blame someone else for not feeling what you're feeling is not right.

So like even if you feel like Makoto and Sousuke have feelings for their friends, blaming Haru and Rin for having feelings for each other and not for them is beyond weird. And there's nothing wrong with putting someone you love first, every bro/sis gets it. You can say bros before hoes all you want, but like Lan Zhan might just drop his bro for his hoe, if he was given a choice. Would it make him a bad person? The fact that Wu Xie chose to save Xiaoge before Pangzi makes his a bad person? My point is it's not all that easy.

I just feel like many ppl in this fandom are very weird about many things. Either because they do not get what it's like to go through some things or maybe they just do not get that no matter how cheesy this sounds love is not that simple. I mean, for example not all selfish is bad, sometimes like in Haru's case for example not being selfish is also bad. Bc if he finally asks for what he wants, he will make both himself AND Rin happy.

To be angry at Rin bc of the aftermath of his father's death and s1 I never had it in me, after knowing everything and how adults handled it. If some of Sousuke's fans bc of Yakusoku and the fact that Rin found his salvation in Haru bc he helped him to move forward after getting his family out of this hell alone and that Haru was the safe haven that made him happy in this moment of his life, want to trash Rin for the fact that he "neglected" Sousuke, its like your opinion. I personally do not get it. Rin doesn't owe Sousuke anything. It's not his fault again that Haru's existence helped him to feel better.

Just like not everyone will get why Haru in 1x12 was so happy about the fact that he could help Rin. To be that special somebody for someone who can "save" you in moments of your life like this, especially if you love them is an incredible feeling. And no, your bestie isn't always the person for this job, no. I don't see why people do not get that I guess, that's all. But we all have our own opinion on everything, so...

We same as you do not get it since forever, but its like it is what it is in this fandom. I personally just have another life position on stuff, so I'm very far from that point of view they have.

Hey-o! I've been following you since the begining of my valorant obsession but I've never really *seen* why you ship breach and sova so, sorry if this is rude, but can you like explain it? What are the tropes or voicelines or whatever that's inspires you? Or is it just a crack ship lmao

LOL considering I basically only write breach/sova outside of requests, I feel like I have to commend you for still following me? Also, this got kinda long so keep reading line is in play.

So, my reason why I started shipping them was just because for a long time, those were the only two characters I played, and around the same time, I read a fic of those two on AO3, and then @/ninadrawsstuff (idk if she wants to be tagged) started publishing Breach/Sova art on twitter. I was like, "this is cool, I can get into this".

The reason why I stuck with this ship was because I heard Breach say "That pretty boy Sova sure looks like a hero... Enh I'll kill him anyways." And now i've learned that Breach is supposed to be kind of a flirt, so that makes sense now. But I thought it was hilarious because even then, I thought Sova was likely some battle-experienced soldier or assassin so imagine calling anyone with that resume a "pretty boy". It was cute teasing in my eyes, though very unprofessional, which probably only bothered Sova more.

From there, I was thinking about character lore (there was so little back in beta), and I was thinking about how it was likely a clash of priorities. Sova calls Breach "thug" when he kills him, and comments on his impatience and how he rushes things. So, it struck me as a rivalry? Maybe soft enemies? Because Sova doesn't like Breach, but can't help but begrudgingly agree with him on occasion (because whether he wants to accept it or not, he's good at his job). And I LOVE enemies to lovers/rivals to lovers because I crave conflict and angst.

So my very first fic was basically rivals to rivals with benefits to lovers.

They just fit that trope so well. They clearly have conflict in game, and yet there are moments where they praise each other or experiences they probably share, and I can work with that.

Plus now knowing their personalities a little better, once you get to the lovers stage of their relationship, there's still going to be conflict, which I love seeing in stories because imo, that's how you grow and mature and get closer. So, with Sova being so duty forward, whereas Breach always came off as more selfish, there would always be a little bit of friction. I think it opens up a lot of opportunities to write conflict and conflict resolution which is just something I enjoy, whether or not ppl like reading the same overall arc over and over again.

On top of that, I never thought that Breach was only loud, arrogant, or annoying because unless a character is completely one dimensional or rushed, they generally have a different side to them or a surprisingly rational reason for their insanity. League of Legends has good lore and stories, so I knew the writers for Valorant wouldn't just let Breach be some one dimensional antagonist, nor would Sova be some perfect figure. So with that, I feel like I have enough freedom to extrapolate their relationship past the initial hostility of annoyance and build towards a healthy relationship.

Yeah... I know I ramble, but I hope that made sense :)) Basically, for me, enemies to lovers >>, and I have plenty of reason to build them for that trope.

What I love about them: she is so. FASCINATING god it's like she is so fake and so mean and so shielded from any consequences of that but at the same time it's like. there is something so charming and compelling about her that makes you kinda WANT her to not experience consequences for it. and at the same time as being Like That she does also have this like completely insane sense of morality like her intentions are so skewed and yet also very often well-meaning it just makes it incredibly interesting to read about her to me. also her canon arc (to the extent that it exists lol) is literally just her learning to be more angry and hateful and I love that for her

What I hate about them: ok love her very very very much as a character but she IS one of those characters I know I would not get along with if I ever met her irl like she would be super rude and annoying lmaoooo

What I would like to see more focus on: I. Recognize why this is because she is basically completely surrounded by some of Thee most hated characters in the entire franchise (nightcloud, onestar, breezepelt, crowfeather) so she seems like The Nice And Emotionally Intelligent One by comparison, but like can we please acknowledge that she has very canonical mean girl tendencies PLEASE like let her be interesting stop erasing her flaws she already gets enough of that from the erins why does the fandom have to do it too-

What I would like to see less focus on: her fucking! romances!! I mean again I get it cause like yeah lionblaze and breezepelt are both pretty crucial to her development but also like you can explore that without just centering her entire fucking character around being the Nice Sad Pining Girl for lion or the Bland Nice Warriors Mom/Wife Trope(Toxic "being the therapist for your boyfriend" dynamic edition") to breeze. And even in AUs and stuff, even when they pair her with someone other than those 2 and try to develop her more, a lot of ppl just go with this version of her personality that developed in fanon to make her easier to ship and I HATE it. Like 1) even in canon she does have other shit! going on!! 2) you can pretty easily expand on her character and take her in totally new directions unrelated to boyfriend drama

Favorite pairing with: uhh probably heatherbreeze lol. Their arc together is just .. so long and emotionally wrought and it feels so fitting that at the end of all that they just get to be happy and peaceful together - it makes me emotional 🥺

Favorite friendship: either Jayfeather or Antpelt. I know neither of those relationships actually exist in canon and I'm the only one who thinks or cares about either but cut me some slack the only canon actual friends the erins gave her are her boyfriends 💔

NOTP: lionheather. It's not always a complete no go for me in warrior cats when a pairing gets into a physical fight cause you know. that's kinda the name of the game sometimes in these books and depending on the context it doesn't necessarily mean that relationship is now Irretrievably Toxic Forever. but like the scenes where he gets violent with her and the way he thinks about her in PO3 aren't like, "we are two equal warriors meeting in battle" a la for example crookedpaw and bluepaw in BP, or "we are two equal warriors getting pissed and having a kitty slapfight" like fireheart and graystripe in fire and ice. The energy is very much, "this girl's ex boyfriend, who has literal superpowers that mean she is essentially incapable of defending herself, and he KNOWS THIS, has cornered her in a dangerous situation and now intends to seriously injure, if not flat out murder her, for a perceived slight against him even though he's explicitly not even certain whether this slight actually happened in reality." (and for bonus points he also nearly murders her pseudo-dad.) it's a terrifying energy ruined any potential of the ship for me

Favorite headcanon: I know it's a popular one but I'm 100% on the "Hare, Heather & Kestrel are littermates" train. In terms of sibling dynamics, I imagine she has kind of a middle child thing going on to Hare's Responsible Older Sibling vibes and Kestrel's being kinda the baby. But I also think there's quite a bit of distance, though not much friction, between them because of how Onestar treated them all differently. (Someday. Someday I will write a Harespring fic and look at the Onestar family dynamics from his perspective and Then You'll All See)

That's what op feel when ppl tag their posts with some random unrelated things. Imagine posting abt some serious issue and then someone tag it with some random fictional twink they're simping on. It's disrespectful to the op

if someone reblogs a fic just to say it's bad writing they're being incredibly rude and it's like making an extra effort to be an asshole so yeah it would be annoying sure. but no amount of me going "don't reblog this with xxx tags" would stop that, either. plus I really don't think your example is very fitting. reblogging someone's actual fics or fanart is always different than reblogging random screencaps or very vague text posts that are up for interpretation, it's just not the same. and i don't think that post was not referring to taking something that's explicitly an apple and tagging it as an orange, but things that are very much open for personal views.

and i think you're making this out to be a bigger problem than it is. i've hardly ever seen a post about an actual serious issue being tagged with anything but things relating to it. and like, an actual serious issue can absolutely be fitting to some "random fictional twink" too, there are actual very real issues that are addressed in fiction, in case you haven't noticed. so no, tagging real life issues with fictional people is not, in my opinion, disrespectful in itself. at all.

of course everything always depends on the context, and people can be assholes. but you're jumping to conclusions here. most of the things the post refers to are harmless and fun things. or things like someone posting a screencap with two characters and going "don't tag with the ship!" and someone then tagging it with the ship which like... is absolutely not an issue. it doesn't change the post, it doesn't force others to see it as the ship, it's just that one person saying what they felt while seeing the post. I've posted caps from RE6 with Chris and Piers and people have tagged them as nivanfield and I 100% did not mean them as that but if someone wants to see them as that? they should have fun with it. not gonna change my mind or the original intent.

ugh okay so like. ive wanted to talk abt this for a while but i didn't want to destroy my inbox yknow but at this point idc so like. theres, from my experience as a person of colour, a big issue of racism and white favorism in the cs fandom, especially intersecting w wlwphobia/lesbaphobia and sexism/bias against female characters and honestly im just really tired of it.

i think one of the biggest and most frustrating examples of this is how so much of this fandom treats carmen herself. so many of you shit on carmen for no reason saying that shes "boring" or whatever and it honestly drives me up the wall. Carmen is actually a really interesting character and has much more personality than the average vigilante type character (especially those that are white guys) and yet so many of you constantly talk abt her badly and its just really obvious thats its because your standards of what makes a character "interesting" are infinitely higher when that character is a (both sapphic and trans coded) woman of colour.

and this becomes even more obvious when you look at how much of this fandom obsesses over generic white male characters. the fact that so many of you act like characters like mime bomb and neal the eel that only appear in a couple episodes and aren't well developed at all because they're literally side character are so amazing and interesting and then act like carmen who is much more developed and interesting and literally THE MAIN FUCKING CHARACTER is boring and annoying and toss her aside is so annoying. 

im not you can't like side characters or focus on vile more than other characters, im fine with the people in the fandom that focus on characters like countess cleo and dr bellum or jean paul and antonio more, the main issue the fact that people focus on white male characters like mime bomb, neal the eel, maelstrom, etc.

this also ties into the way so many non carulia shipper talk about carulia. like so many of you act like shippers and the ship itself are annoying for pretty much just existing and while its clear that a decent amount of that is due to wlwphobia its also clear that its also somewhat due to racism because carmen and julia are both women of colour. especially seeing as so many of you insist on shipping these two women of colour that objectively speaking have the most chemistry with each other with white men that they are both clearly romantically uninterested in instead. it all just feels really iffy and gross to me when you realise that.

there is also a bit of an issue with the way some carulia shippers characterise carmen as a flirty latina stereotype and julia as an innocent asain stereotype, but this is is a lot less common that those posts going around a while ago made it out to be. still i have noticed this mostly in a few fanfics on ao3 and the like so i will say that ppl need to try avoid those stereotypes (i think they're a lot more common among shippers on sites other than tumblr and discord, which is probably why i haven't seen them that often) (also julia being characterised as submissive and the like is a lot more common for when shes shipped with chase (a white man) imo so like :/)

also the fact that so many of you obsess over chase, a white man that repeatedly diminishes and talks down a woman of colour and has yet to apologise to her, is just really tiring, especially as so many of you ignore how rude hes been to julia. like i get if you want to have a male character to focus on but like shadowsan (outside of the context of that gross ship w zack u nasties) is literally right there. you have no reason to be obssesing over a white man thats repeatedly very rude and demeaning to a woman of colour lol.

im not saying that all of you are deliberately racist (though seriously white ppl you need to stop taking people pointing out racist things you do as a personal attack) but i am saying that some of you literally need to re-examine your biases with how you view the characters in the show because holy shit its tiring.

you know I’ve always found this fandoms obsession with Jessica to be sort of odd. Like I’ve seen people say she loves Bella and that Bella treated her like shit but man she was rude as hell in the books. you must be able to read my mind bc i TOTALLY agree. when ppl say “jessica deserved better” im just like......did she not get everything she seemed to want in the end anyway? no she’s not friends with bella by the end of the series, who didn’t fuck with her like that anyway, but she got to fulfill what seemed like a short-term goal of visiting the cullens’ house! twice!!! but no fr jessica was valedictorian and had plenty of other friends, without a doubt. she likely went on to do great at college too! and knowing smeyer, she probably ended up with her crush, mike, and probably had his babies too. by smeyer’s dumb ass standards for her female characters, that’s a win.

i don’t agree w the fanon assuming that jessica loved bella though bc she definitely didn’t lol. she liked having friends as most teens do. (and she didn’t have to love bella bc bella was a bad friend to her and everyone else who wasn’t a cullen anyway.) i do recall jessica being sorta rude in the books, but nothing evil. she was a regular degular teenage girl lmao. i didn’t appreciate bella calling her annoying in her narrative, but also, bella had something negative to say about nearly everybody who wasn’t a cullen. bella being a bad friend to jessica could also apply to almost anyone else here.

that being said, i agree w you that ppl were really sold on anna kendrick’s portrayal of jessica (which is probably why im so lukewarm abt her bc i don’t like anna kendrick), and that’s fine ig, but when i think of “[insert character] deserves better”, i don’t think of jessica bc she wasn’t treated particularly cruelly. she was just.......there. she had a mediocre ass run bc she is a mediocre ass character used to highlight how much bella doesn’t fit in with her human friends and that is ok. in a series about vampires and werewolves, i think it’s fine that the handful of local human teens who basically served as commercial breaks for The DramaTM didn’t get exciting plots. none of them died or gave birth to a demon baby so i think it’s safe to say that the kids are alright!

my thoughts: ive always loved the idea of lila being the Anti-Chloe. She loooves marinette and hate hate hates ladybug. Instead of being rude and mean spirited, she’s sneaky and manipulative and sweet talks everyone around her into liking her. I always LOVED that potential dynamic between mari and lila. And its mega mega tasty shipping food. Overall, enemies to lovers is a fun trope (esp when its all topsy turvy w identity shenanigans), and this ship is critically underrated

What makes me happy about them: their duality!! their similarities and differences! the potential redemption, OR the potential corruption. Turning the tables on lila/alya salters and instead its marinette whomst lila converts to the dark side. 

What makes me sad about them: probably the lila hate and the ships unpopularity. I know i cant force ppl to like it and create content for it all the time, but gee wouldn’t it be nice if i could?

THAT'S why i dont check tags any more, and yes, it's a contributing factor in my lack of interest in the ship any more. i find the hypocrisy annoying and the complaining about what's there unfair. the way ppl talk about that ship and the content for it makes me second-guess why i even like it, which is sad bcuz i've shipped it since 2000, but oh well!!! i dont rly miss it i just get frustrated when ppl remind me of all this

i'm also not invested in my fics being read or whatever bcuz to me fics are a low-pressure low-priority hobby and it's easier to keep it that way if there arent many ppl reading what i'm writing. it's nice when ppl do!! love it when ppl do and enjoy it and have nice things to say!!!! but i write fics just to have some fun and then post them if i think other ppl can have some fun with it too. no skin off my nose if they're not read, but also: i know other fic writers see it differently, and they are completely right and valid to feel that way!!! it's MUCH easier to write with validation & attention, if you are someone who thrives from validation & attention.
