Hi, I'm going through some of your old posts in the Lupin tag. In one of them, a tumblr named "trovia" explains why they thinks Snape was obsessed with Lily (I disagree). Their main arguments is: he was part of a group that hated and killed people like her, he mistreated her son whom she loved, and he's proof that a Patronus could be made by obsession. Did you or another pro-Snape blogger ever replied to them and where could I find the post(s), please? If not, what's your take? Thanks you! : )

Hello hello, so it’s claimed that Snape is obsessed with Lily because XYZ

He joined the death eaters: It’s very likely that in the beginning the death eaters were not exactly advertised as a muggleborn hate group. It was more of an organization that sought to restore wizarding world's glory and this powerful Voldemort guy was ready to help anyone reach their maximum magical potential. The muggleborn hate probably came later when pureblooded wizards started flocking to this organization. Hating muggles is already so ingrained and normalized in wizarding society we even see Hagrid do it, it's not exactly out of line that this is one of their core aspects. 

After years of being bullied and ignored by the people who’d later join the order of the phoenix, Snape saw no reason to join the order and joined the death eaters to prove himself. It's been said that he thought he’d even impress Lily which shows he still didn't realize how much her muggleborn status mattered in the grand scheme, he was mainly focused on the power and status. Joining the death eaters to impress Lily was definitely naive but I don't think it shows he was obsessed with her however.

He mistreated Lily’s son: Snape was an ass to Harry because he's a damaged adult who couldn't break the cycle of hat. He lived with life long consequences of bullying in school done by Harry’s father. Harry also immediately annoyed Snape because he expected him to be pampered and arrogant like James. I think he tried everything to shut out the fact he was also Lily's son which to me is not a sign of obsessiveness. 

His patronus shows he’s obsessed: If we take things into account written post-canon, this is simply untrue. Apparently wizards who try to cast a patronus for nefarious reasons get engulfed by maggots. People will stay mad that one of the most unpleasant characters in the series can produce such an ethereally beautiful patronus out of genuine love for Lily, it doesn't fit their white and black box.

Hey! Also a fellow writer who posts series on Tumblr (AO3 too).

Same as you, probably, I get likes, mostly likes/kudos and very little comments/reblogs. And I understand, as a reader myself, it is easy/convenient to just double tap or click a button and keep scrolling. And I think, that's what most people do - they consider likes to be feedback.

I think it is important to consider that younger Tumblr users might not know that this is a reblogging platform. A few likes won't do much for exposure (or even feedback - it's like being left on read tbh), but a reblog will make that post branch out like a pureblood wizard's family tree, attract more feedback & will be a godsend if the reader not only reblogs but also adds appropriate tags (hence the "big in [tag]" thing the discover page has), however tagging takes time, is annoying etc etc

I don't support guilting or obligating people to interact with fanworks in any kind - please don't misunderstand! However, a lack of consistent feedback may cause a writer's block or just a loss of interest in posting in the author.

It may be helpful to add a "hit that reblob button if you like my story" every now and then in the header of your fics. It takes 3x the amount of time as pressing a like and - to be honest - as a reader, blogs that just have fanfic reblogs, even without tags, are one of the most I enjoy. So many great authors.

Another coupla tips on gaining an audience:

>> periodic masterlist/masterpost reblogs, I'd say about once in 6 weeks; a single masterpost reblog once a story is finished if your story has it. I occasionally reblob stories that did particularly well or have a larger fandom (ex. Tony Stark vs Loki fandom - I have two Loki stories but they brought in people who are Tony stans too).

>> check out any challenges/bingos/etc your followers or just larger blogs host. participating in them will give you a good shout-out. most writers love to hype up their fellow writers so you may even get a mutual out of this!

>> dark or yandere themed blogs usually attract a large following buuuuuuuttt.... the admins deal with really nasty shit :( there's a community for that (I'm not a part of it) so if you're into that I can drop some @s in your inbox

yes, sadly I've been here long enough to see tumblr lose its identity as a blogging platform and turn into an endless scroll platform like pinterest or instagram.

there was a time when tumblr was in the same league as blogspot, blogger, or wix. it was designed as a platform for bloggers back when that was a lot more of a 'thing'. and it was one of the most creative, unique, supportive communities online for years.

then Yahoo came along and killed the personality that tumblr was known for. then SESTA (Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act) brought on the porn ban and a fifth of the users left.

so I'm not surprised people don't understand what tumblr is for, even if I think there are enough "reblogs are important" posts to make it obvious by now. I've been here since 2013 (with the same blog the whole time! my main has a lot of backlog) and it's odd to see how much it's changed. but every reader and commenter means so much to me.

keep in mind that on the app, you can quick reblog by just holding down the reblog button and swiping to whatever blog (if you have multiple) you would like to reblog it to! it's not harder than liking!

I'm not worried about gaining an audience so much as keeping it, really. I just fear that the drop-off in series represents something lacking in the writing!

What I Wanna See In TROS

I was kind of inspired by this blog post to do my own.  I don’t think I ask for too much.  As it is, we know we’re getting the Knights of Ren at last and just as I thought we were lacking a bounty hunter in the ST, it looks like Zorri Bliss will fit the bill.  So that’s two off my list.

The rest to me will either tie things up better with Eps I-VI and have the ST make sense in a meaningful way.  

Reylo

Why is Reylo so popular even though it’s “controversial” on the internet?  It’s because Star Wars is larger than life, it’s mythical, and it’s extra dramatic and the ST NEEDS a love story that is all of those things.  Finn/Rose is a B-block romance.  It’s not BIIIG enough with drama, high stakes, powerful emotion, and the fate of everything in its hands.  Reylo, though, is BIG.  What’s more dramatic than the two most gifted people in the Force, one in the light and one in the dark, on different sides of a war falling in love?  If you’re going to spend two movies building a Force bond between them and spend one of those films drawing them closer together in some kind of deep emotional intimacy, you have to make it pay off.  Sorry, cousins or celibate space friends aren’t going to cut it.  Meanwhile...

What Is Up With Reylo And The Force?

Everyone is obsessed with who Rey is.  I don’t think it matters who she is or where she came from.  WHAT she is matters.  Why did the Force choose her for this moment in time and to do what?  Obviously she is meant to have a connection with Kylo/Ben.  Obviously she is meant to set things right with the Skywalker clan.  But is there something more to it?  TLJ gave us the Throne Room fight scene not just because it looks cool but to have us understand that working together, Kylo/Ben and Rey are unstoppable.  When they are fighting each other, events have an uncanny way of making sure one doesn’t kill the other.  Beyond a romantic attraction, there is a mystical reason for them being together.  Abrams better tell us what that is.

Bonus:  George Lucas told James Cameron in an interview that his original intent with the ST was to introduce the Whills,which connect people with the Force (I guess along with the midichlorians).  So far, no Whills but it would make me very happy to see them introduced at last in this film if for no other reason than to help us understand what is going on.  Maybe the last scene of TROS is Artoo rolling up to the Whills and beeping, “Yo, I seen some s***” and that’s how they started writing the Journal of the Whills.

I’d give the movie another 50,000 points for including anything about the Force gods and the World Between Worlds.

Anakin

This story has had an Anakin-sized hole in it since TFA.  It’s Kylo who pays for Anakin’s fall in the past and it’s Kylo who idolizes a one-sided image of who his grandfather had been.  It’s up to the Chosen One to clear things up.  The question I have is why hasn’t his Force ghost appeared yet?  

Bonus:  Like the blogger I linked, I would LOVE to see Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and other Jedi as well.  We already know we’re probably getting Force ghost Luke.  I’d give this movie an extra 100,000 points if Ahsoka the White turns up.  Boy wouldn’t that be awesome?

Classic “aliens”

It’s all fine and good to introduce new denizens of the GFFA but with some exceptions, I don’t find the designs as “fabuloso” as the ones done for the OT and PT.  What really grates is how they seem hellbent on avoiding any classic alien besides Admiral Ackbar, Nien Nunb, and Chewbacca.  Would it kill them to show us a Hutt, a Jawa, a Duros, a Neimodian, a Zabrak, a Twi’lek, a Rodian, a Togruta, or an Ewok to remind the audience we’re in the same universe?  (The PT did a great job balancing new creature/alien designs with including ones from the OT.)

Sneering

I’d like to see Hux or possibly this new Pryde guy or better yet Sidious sneer at Kylo with something along the lines of, “You and that....GIRL!”

Reylo Vs. Sidious

This is the only logical showdown I can see happening for the Great Climactic Battle.  Will Rey and Ben tag team it?  Or will it go weird and they do something like combine into one entity or generate a separate entity that they control?  However it happens, it’s time for our kissin’ space wizards to take out the trash once and for all.

Stormtrooper Revolt

I predict the FO is going to fracture into different factions and maybe that would be the perfect opportunity for the stormtrooper revolt Finn was supposed to lead in TLJ to happen.

The Jedi Returning For Good

As Max Von Sydow said at the beginning of TFA, the Force can’t be balanced without the Jedi.  So of course the Jedi have to be restored.  But it has to be a New And Improved Jedi Order free of what trapped it in the past.  Plus it has to let Rey and Ben hook up.

Reconciliation Between Ben And His Family

I don’t know how they’re going to pull it off re Leia but I think it’s VERY important for the Solo-Skywalker family to reconcile to bring this to a close.

And most importantly...

Bendemption

What the hell was all of this for if Ben finally doesn’t deny the truth that’s his family and remembers he did not come from the Dark Side?

This is what I frantically wrote on a post-it note to get the idea out of my head so I could go back to writing lmao: “Wizard Archivist? from ‘Hall of Celestial Mappings’ (one of the songs from the Reeder album) -> make a hall of celestial mappings which shows history of the main divine pantheon, before they disappeared, and a minor pantheon that started to rise up and step into the world/plane in place of the main gods and goddesses. 1. What are you reading right now?

Right now, actively, I am reading The Lies of Locke Lamora and The White Queen. I’m kinda on a royalty kick, which The White Queen is somewhat fulfilling. The Lies of Locke Lamora is a book I’m buddy reading with a friend and I’m only on the first page.

2. What’s one new release you’re looking forward to?

Honestly, I couldn’t think of any for a while until I recalled that the second Aru Shah book is supposed to come out this year. :D So, Aru Shah #2

3. What’s your favourite piece of classical music?

I don’t have a favorite, to be honest. Or at least not one that readily comes to mind. I do enjoy classical music though. My mom had tapes and I found them and a radio that played tapes and she had these little cassettes from the 90s from Victoria Secret that were classical music pieces. They were very romantic and for a couple months I played them nearly on repeat.

4. If you could redo any film or TV adaptation, what would you choose? Why?

I’d take the 2005 Pride and Prejudice aesthetic and feelings (it’s my favorite over the 95 one, apologies to anyone who’s offended) and turn it into a short series (maybe three episodes), just so we could get Bingley’s other sister and some other little bits and scenes into the production. I always wished that they’d been able to bring in Bingley’s other sister and the meeting of the Bingleys and Elizabeth at Pemberley where Lizzie and Darcy’s sister bond a bit. So I wouldn’t really redo anything, I’d just expand it.

5. Do you write fanfiction?

I do. I’ve written stuff just for me and stuff I’ve posted online and they’ve all been in a big variety of fandoms.

6. An author announces a sequel to what you thought was a stand-alone. Who is it and what is the book about?

7. Which book characters would you go to the carnival with?

If I was going to the state fair (one way of interpreting carnival), I would go with Harry Potter and co. because 1) it’d be fun to bring wizards around an American state fair (deep fried oreos and twinkies, I wanna see what Arthur Weasley would make of those) and 2) I think they’d get a kick out of some of the rides that we’ve got.

If I was going to carnival as in the just-before-Lent festival (the other way I’m interpreting carnival - I wasn’t sure which one you meant), then I’d wanna go with probs Jesper Fahey and Nina Zenik from Six of Crows. I’d mostly wanna go with those two because they seem like they’d be the most fun to have at a big, blow-out party like carnival. If the other Crows tagged along, that’d be fine, too, but they seem a bit like downers for the most part. Though maybe Inej and Waylan wouldn’t be too bad.

8. A mysterious door opens in thin air. Do you go through it?

I peak through it first, y’know, stick my head through the portal. I’d probably observe it for a while and maybe ask a friend to bring me some supplies or something and then maybe I’d go through it. I’d be super nervous that the portal would close behind me.

9. What’s your favourite baked good? Can you make it yourself?

Chocolate croissants are probs my all time fave. The nice, crispy on the outside, soft and melty on the inside with the chocolate there (sweet chocolate, mind u) - yum! Unfortunately, no, I can’t make it myself. I don’t do much baking except for bread.

10. Are there any books on your shelves that you’re not totally sure why you even own?

Yeah. I went kinda crazy when I got to the Big City after months of not buying any English books and bought stuff that I haven’t touched and idk if I will before I leave the country in a couple months. They’re all nonfiction, too, so they won’t be easy reads, haha.

I had to check! But yes, two: The Rape of Nanking and Destiny Disrupted. Both nonfiction.

my mid-2018 update

salut! i feel like it’s time for an update. not just on my blog, but on myself too. i went through a seven-book (and eight-movie) series equivalent full of character development in the last year or so, and i lost my passion for drarry in the process. i lost my grip on what enchanted me about these two boys that never knew what was good for them. i knew they would always have a special place in my heart for them, but i had convinced myself that it was time to “grow up,” to lose sight of what i had told myself was a mere adolescent fantasy phase. i made myself believe that i had outgrew draco and harry, and the harry potter franchise altogether.

and then one of my friends recommended a fic. how fitting that tomorrow’s harry’s birthday, huh?

if your finger or cursor is hovering over the ‘keep reading’ button, thank you. i gotta preface that you might wanna come back later if you don’t have the time, though. i’m really about to have a heart-to-heart in the next few paragraphs.

if you visited my blog recently and looked back at the dates of the past twenty or so posts, you’ll see how spread out they are. it’s perfectly okay to assume that i would only come on tumblr once every month and reblog a couple of posts, and then disappear for weeks at a time—because that’s exactly what happened. i’m truly, deeply sorry for that. you didn’t follow a blog to only see a couple of reblogs and no original content once a month. you followed to see interesting content that showed the personality of the blogger, that showed the dedication and love for a ship you also shared. i didn’t mean to let the people who support this blog, and/or support me, down. this blog was meant to be a place to share happiness i felt for these two boys, and instead it felt like more of a responsibility.

during my semi-hiatus, i really went through it. no, not actually facing some life-or-death situations and having to go on missions with my best friends to defeat the dark lord and save the wizarding world, nothing like that. more like, those coming-of-age experiences you have in high school where you find out who you are and how to actually dress respectably. to put it in short, i feel like i aged three years despite only hitting the big one-six.

i didn’t lose only my passion for drarry, but for being creative in general. my pencils no longer had to be sharpened, my journal remained closed, and my wacom tablet collected dust in my closet. it’s sad to think about it, losing my inspiration. looking back, it was like losing a part of me.

then, something brilliant happened. my dear friend sent me a link to a fic at the perfect time yesterday. i was having a sad day, and she wanted to share this fic with me despite me being distant and unreachable for months. even at the time, i couldn’t muster the energy to focus my eyes long enough to read her texts, much less a 12-chapter fic. however, today, i had the energy and the free time to click on the link she sent me. i then continued to lie in bed for the next two hours, cuddled under my blanket with the lights out and my phone brightness on the lowest possible setting as i scrolled and read.

next thing i know, i’m completely submerged in this page of text that describes the characters i used to love so perfectly. i was content by myself for the first time in weeks, and that was enough. i wanted to prolong that feeling of happiness and joy of reading, so i kept on. until i finished.

and so here i sit, feeling like the sixteen-year-old drarry shipper i should have allowed myself to be months ago. i didn’t think i’d be so ecstatic to have back problems in my teenage years.

tldr; heavy smut, hella kinky, and fulfilled my need for backstory within fics. 17/10
