Have u ever posted your comic or animation workflow anywhere? Im super curious on how you tackle the process, especially not using a drawing tablet. I know you have a very simple (and adorable) style so that probably helps in terms of workflow -- Im just curious about the steps you take.
Thank you! With both comics and animation my key thing is to not spend too much time on any particular thing, just draw loose and fast. Honestly the only downside to drawing with a mouse is that I can tell my arm has extremely specific muscle memory regarding it- if my mouse breaks and I get a new one I have to spend a good month or so just letting my hand get used to it again lol. Same with if my setup gets readjusted too much- right now my setup is my mouse on one of those padded mousepads, on top of 2 books, with my elbow resting on my 3DS case (I'll get an actual pillow or something for it eventually lol). But luckily thanks to this I suffer very minimal wrist pain 👍
(...Okay I started to go really in depth in my process here, so sorry if this is way more than what you were asking. Putting it under a readmore just to save space lol)
With MFM in particular, I start by writing out the entire script for the next story arc, which really is just all of the dialogue and vague notes about any important actions. Then I do the paneling with very loose stick-figure like sketches of where the characters are and what they're doing. I prefer having very little planning when it comes to character poses and panel shapes, coming up with those on the fly makes things much more exciting and faster to make. But it's the opposite with dialogue... it needs to be 100% FINAL before I draw a single line lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's part of my script for my most recent chapter, as well as what my extremely loose goofy thumbnail sketching is like. I write the script as one big thing and don't separate it into pages until I actually start drawing- then I go and color change it just to keep track of what dialogue goes on each page
After that, I go back and do the ACTUAL sketch, as well as the lettering (I don't believe this is how it's done professionally. I used to do lettering as the very last step in the process... but then found it hard to cram speech bubbles in the right places lmao.) After that is lineart, coloring, background flat colors, then shading/rendering for all of it. I do each step in batches, as in I sketch out ALL pages of a chapter before moving to lineart, I line ALL pages before starting coloring, etc. I find it way easier to be productive when it's broken up like that, though when I first started the comic I used to draw each page to completion before starting the next (but also, the comic's style was DRASTICALLY simpler back then haha)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Unfortunately I merged some of the shading to the background flat colors so it's not entirely accurate... oops) FireAlpaca has a sand texture feature that I only found out about last year- adding that to the backgrounds makes them look 10x better with WAY less effort.
With animation, it depends on the project. For simple 5-10 second animation I make for fun, there's very little planning lol. I skip some steps in the process- I'll sketch out the keyframes (and maybe any difficult inbetweens if necessary), line those, then go straight into making linework inbetweens. I'm not a cleanup artist and have no experience in that, so I always find trying to line my rough animation makes everything jittery and wobbly. If I do it with a clean line from the start then I can avoid that and save a lot of time 👍
For my bigger projects (such as the Parvey cartoon and the MFM Kickstarter trailer), I do the whole animatic with final audio first and foremost, with the animatic being almost like the keyframes. I split them up into individual shots, .mp4 files anywhere between 1-30 seconds usually, and animate those one at a time. I'm a huge fan of free to use programs and try to use them as much as I possibly can, here's a list of the ones I use:
FireAlpaca- for the actual drawing part itself (storyboarding/animating/etc). FireAlpaca has a feature that lets you export every frame as it's own drawing, as well as an onion skin mode
Windows Movie Maker- for compiling all of those frames into video format, creating individual shots. If you upload all of your frames and set them to around 0.08 seconds, it equals about 12fps (I usually animate at 0.10 seconds/10fps, its a bit slower but looks nice)
Onlinesequencer.net- for making music. It's the place I've made all of my songs on, like the timeloop song, hyperworkaholic, and the background music for the MFM Kickstarter trailer.
Audacity- for editing audio/music. Also great for recording things directly from your desktop
DaVinci Resolve- for editing and putting together all of the shots into one big video. Can get kind of intensive on the computer during rendering, so watch out.
YouCut (app)- also for editing and compiling shots, I used this one a lot a couple years back but I'm not sure how well it holds up. Doesn't need much phone storage to download but needs a lot to render videos.
MS Paint (yes really)- for typing up text. FireAlpaca has a text option but I don't like it as much as Paint's.
...The only thing I genuinely can't do alone is voice acting. Luckily there's a big voice acting community on Twitter and they're all amazing to work with!
This got... way more in depth than I planned for it to be, so sorry if this is way more than what you were asking lol. But that's my general process when it comes to my art 👍

oh, I've had a hunch that Sanji got... cranked up to 11 in the anime. after OPLA I became manga-only reader, as I wanted the rawest possible OP experience and also bcuz reading is quicker than watching the anime 😅 (I'm still not even halfway through -- recently started Impel Down -- but it is such a great story, I already love it so much!!!) but I also started dipping my toes into the fandom. and I saw people hating Sanji for being a gross pervert. but while reading the manga, this man gave me more of a love-sick puppy vibes??? all the swooning and fussing over Nami and Robin seemed almost sweet (him running towards them with flowers in Skypiea or cotton candy in Long Ring Island? c'mon, that was adorable) he has his moments but they aren't even that bad, tbh. I wondered that maybe it was a misguided hate towards his special treatment for women (chivalry?????) rankling feminists, tired of men treating women like wilting flowers in constant need of man-help but no, people seemed very dead-set on him being a straight up pervert and I realised... oh, those are anime fans... oh, no... what happened here, and I got discouraged from trying to watch the anime, since if it changed Sanji, one of the main characters, it was very likely to change other things, especially given how old the anime is. and then I realised that it already changed things even in the first episode and I kind of... stuck to the manga for now. maybe I will watch some movies just to see the One Piece world prettily animated 🤔
(Long post) First of all, some recommendations for you so you can enjoy the animation ^^ If you want to enjoy One Piece animated with an "Oda feel", watch the movie "Strong World". The script is written by Oda and you can watch it after finishing Thriller Bark. Like with the rest of the movies, the content is not Canon content, so what you see on them doesn't really happen in the real One Piece story (even if some of the enemies pasts are canon), but this one is the best and more on character we can probably see.
After that, Oda was executive producer in "Film Z" (supposed to be after FishMan Island Arc, but preferably after Punk Hazard Arc to avoid spoilers) and "Gold" (watch after Dressrosa Arc). His involvement with these movies is not so big, tho, so watch them with that in mind. (For example, in "Gold" Oda only rewrote the script of the climax of the story, because he was specially unsatisfied with how that part was done. They had to redraw the last 10min of the movie OvOu)
Also he was a producer in "Red" (watch after Wano Arc), and he made a lot of interesting comics and things that are canon pre-Movie... but the Movie on itself is weird. They changed many things of his initial notes and the characters are very "out of character" in my opinion. It has very good music and animation, tho! But yeah... watch with caution ^^U
(I was not gonna mention it at first, but why not... there is also "Stampede", but "Oda stated that he would not have allowed the movie's story to be produced if it was not a commemoration of the anime's 20th anniversary." So... I wouldn't watch it if you expect anything that makes sense in his world or characters xDU)
(You also have the OVA "One Piece - Defeat Him! The Pirate Ganzack", which pre-dates Toei's Anime adaptation. Oda took a lot of interest in this OVA, and he praised it a lot when it came out in 1998) ----------- And second, in my opinion, you made the right decision going to the Manga! As you say, it is the best way to get the rawest version of the story. And also way faster to read it than to watch it xD
I'm glad you love it so much! ❤️ It is really an amazing story, and I hope you keep enjoying it ^^
And now, oh boy, about Sanji... (this is gonna be a very reduced and fast thing I'm gonna write, but I plan on analyze the differences between the Manga and Anime in this other tumblr, if you want to see more eventually):
Your hunch is completely correct. Sadly Sanji's character is completely obliterated in the Anime ^^U
He is reduced to his perverted side (and very veery amped up), or to being mean and fighting all the time. He has nothing of the kindness he shows in the Manga, only the things they can not exclude for the story to make sense. The many fillers also show a different Sanji than the one shown in the Manga. The Anime also shows Nami completely disgusted by him very often, which influences the way we see him as viewers. She just treats him like a slave when she is being "nice". (Nami is also very different in the Anime. They all are different people in the Anime, honestly u_uUU)
So yes, I think most of people who hate him for being gross and a pervert mainly have their first and only contact being the Anime. And it is understandable feeling like that, because it is seriously a bad representation of the character. He is not himself at all.
The Anime reaches an even more unpalatable degree after the time-skip. ---- [((Little Spoiler of right After Time-Skip: Sanji comes back more sensitive to pretty women in the Manga, which translates into many nosebleeds until he recovers. But in the Anime they had always shown him in that level of pervert, or even worse! So they had to amp it even MORE and show him harassing random women and everyone being disgusted around him... something that doesn't happen in the Manga! It makes the character really stand out in grossness))] ----
As you say, Sanji in the Manga is a sweet guy, and only shows as a real pervert sometimes... but it is shown in a funny way. And Nami and Robin react in a non-negative way, mostly just amused that he is such a dummy. But everyone knows he is just harmless.
He totally acts like a love-sick puppy and has those sweet romantic outburst, but he can be a normal human being. And most importantly, treats them mainly as friends and human beings. Anime Sanji could never xDU
Please, feel free to make more asks ^^

How much of your time in file creation is split between writing, recording and editing? When do you know when you've slipped into over-producing territory?
Wow great question!
So this depends on the project. My current process is I write a script, then I order the art and get the assets ready for production, record and edit and post.
Sometimes, a script will take a day or two to come together. Sometimes it takes weeks where I write a little bit of a script per day. I like to have three or four things on the go at once because my brain do be like that but once a script is "ready" I will often do a read aloud to get the mouth feel and flow down before I record. This also warms my brain up to how I'm going to deliver it on the mic and it helps me to hear if a thing sounds clumsy or if it works.
I like to batch my recording sessions because setting up my vocal booth from singing to hypnosis or asmr is a challenge so I may as well use that set up for multiple recordings. I will then spend a few hours recording all the scripts that are done that day. If I mess up a take I clap or snap to save my place and ensure I can make some clean cuts later. Pro tip, give yourself space either side of the mistake and start on a line you know had a bit of a break on it otherwise your cuts will be more obvious plus this will save MASSES of time later.
Editing is very quick for me. I use audacity, clean up background noise and use a very quick eq and compression preset. Cut the mistakes etc. If this audio has background sounds this can take me a few hours but most generic single layer hypnosis tracks only take 20 minutes to edit fully. I post immediately on patreon after the edit is done when I can because it's fresh in my head and I can make the CW writing easier (love having a bad memory for things haha).
So to answer the first question, it depends on the project. Sometimes the scripting is hard and fast and recorded in a single day. Sometimes its weeks of thinking, chopping and changing and then recording. I've spent six months on my longest projects because of procrastination but I've also made a lot of audios in hours because the inspiration strikes so there is no rule with how long it takes.
The second quesion. Over production is both easy and hard to do. A lot of the time I notice it in the sound of the recording. Over processing vocals can kill the vibe so I like to take a less is more approach. I'd rather have some road noise and a more raw and real vocal than an overdone one and as a friend of mine recently told me, perfection can be a creative killer.
In terms of overproduction in terms of scripting and timeline, do what feels right for you. There are many times I feel a script could use more pages, and sometimes I add them because it works but if you are struggling to word things or it feels like a chore, that's your instinct telling you it's done or you need to move on and try again later. Again, I'd rather have something shorter and more raw than something that feels like a slog to write and record. Like play with a partner it should feel natural and unrehearsed even Iof you've proofed it again and again.
I will say when you are starting out you will overthink the recordings. You will probably second guess it and judge it harshly and thats okay, but just post it. Sometimes all it takes is one person telling you thats their fave audio to help you gain confidence and make it all worthwhile.
But these are just how I do things and how I feel about creating audio hypnosis recordings. I encourage you and other creators to find what works for you. Maybe scripting isn't your thing, make its meticulously worked and edited, either way its your own.
I can't wait to see what you decide to make!

the language of Termina that you showed in a wip with Terminus and Time interacting...is that from anywhere in particular, or did you create it? I'm very curious for details! 👀✨
[I hit a button on accident (twice) when nearly done with this and it reverted and deleted basically everything (twice) so please excuse any sorta messy un-hinged-ness to my writing here. Plz take Ctrl+Z away from me I'm begging you]
but AAAA!! ty for the ask as well as the kind words and general interest in the reblogs! And you wanted me to infodump so... uh below the cut will have my brain garbage flung out until I decide to stop typing. Enjoy!
For now what's in the post is a complete mix of things.
I was delving into some fan-created Hylian languages, but mostly used the font from here (which its all a very interesting read even if its incredibly old) for now as a placeholder. Because I DO plan to delve deeper into Terminian sometime in the future, along with some cultural stuff.
As for what it says, its totally scrambled nonsense LMAO. English translated poorly into japanese, written backwards, then scrambled a little, then flipped XD
I was going to be somewhat simple with the post and just using OOT/MM's script and maybe jumbling it, but in going through fan-made languages I sorta fell in love with the font that I ended up using. It IS a placeholder though and not meant to be insanely accurate to anything let alone easily deciphered.
Buuut in case you wanted to know what's actually being said I have it written out already!
Tumblr media
Terminus taking the time to shit on Legend for no other reason then that he just can. Much to Time's displeasure.
I decided to scrap the short comic. But I liked the idea of Time and Terminus both being able to converse with one another privately (without the rather invasive mental connection they have with each other).
I like the idea that the hylian languages across the eras are so similar, enough to where the boys can MOSTLY understand one another in speech (but maybe not in writing). Then as they travel over time, things become easier and easier.
But Terminian?? Not a single one of them knows it or has even HEARD of Termina until FD came along and Time had to spill the beans. They probably didn't even know a separate, completely different, language like this even existed. Much like Mudoran in lttp.
Things I wanna focus on/keep in mind when working on this:
What was the cultural impact FD (dubbed Terminus by the boys) had on Termina? (What came first: the chicken or the egg? Also what is his role here?)
How does termina's culture compare to Hyrule? (holidays, food, beliefs, history, etc)
What does the language look like? Do I want it to be Syllabary? Abugida? Alphabetic? I'm personally leaning towards Syllabary but other forms of writing have interesting potential. Whereas Alphabetic (like some of the other hylian scripts) would be easier to work with.
What does it sound like? I feel like this would be where Terminian and Hylian experiences a sort of disconnect (especially if we go with an alphabet system). I've thought of a very stilted(?) almost reversed way of sound -- like smth isn't entirely right and just feels strange. But to residents of Termina it's completely normal and very easy to speak.
Termina is a very strange place and I really wanna play into it. I'm also very happy that you showed interest in this because it allows me to say stuff I normally would've just kept to myself.
Also I plan to delve into a Twilit language, culture, and just generally the whole world, too. Because yeah ofc we're going there. I am simply coping.

Devlog #30 | 04.27.23
Tumblr media
Hi everyone!
We are back with a monthly update! If you all remember, last month I was feeling a bit burnt out, and I'm super happy to say I'm feeling a lot more like myself this month <3 Thank you to everyone who sent me a lil message/comment, I always appreciate them sm. I won't bore you with my gushing, but I am forever grateful for you all! With that, I'll get into the updates ^^
Tumblr media
But first, it was someone's birthday this month! happy bday, hoe.
Writing
I have some exciting news! Kayn's route has officially entered the line editing phase, which is the FINAL stage of editing \o/ This will be the first route completed for Alaris, wow!!! Fenir's route is still going through developmental editing, but the changes are already super cute and he is giving ultimate grumpy baby energy, which we love to see.
I'm still chipping away at Druk's route. Honestly, I'm Very Sad I haven't made as much progress with him as I would've liked, but a lot of my time was dedicated to the enhanced demo this month, and between revamping the demo script, coding, voice acting, and edits for Kayn/Fenir's full routes, I just didn't have the time. I'm hoping this month, I'll finally Actually be able to get his first draft done <3
Art
We officially finished all Demo Backgrounds this month (wow!!). Having started revamping the demo BGs all the way back in, like, November, it's crazy that this first milestone has been reached! Now, it's only full game BGs left. I received the new Dusk Court BG recently, and she's stunning, so I'm excited for the more "core plot" BGs to start coming out :')
In honor of the enhanced demo coming out, I updated the sprite art for the LIs! I'll be getting to the side characters this next month, but I'm really happy with the new art. The differences maybe kinda small for some of them, but I think they look a lot cleaner, and I think the auras especially are pretty <;3 we also whoreified kuna'a
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
updated sprite preview for kayn, aisa, kuna'a, and etza
The full GUI was also finished this month. I just have to code them in, but it looks SO delicate and pretty and sharp. I'm so thankful to Alice for doing the most outstanding job with them---she is so talented!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sneaky peek of screens uwu
Additional Notes
I complained about it 29348 times, but I Finished the Voice Acting Coding this month uwu. That is probably the biggest accomplishment considering how much work it was reviewing all the lines, cutting them, and coding them into the game. I'm terrified for the full routes.
I selected the playtesters for the game so far. Thank you to everyone who applied! I wasn't able to reach out to everyone who applied, and I didn't want to have so so many playtesters, since filtering through everyone's feedback would be overwhelming. But there may come a time when I need more playtesters in the future, so please feel free to keep my little game in mind <3
It's been a bit since I mentioned my Patreon, mostly because I feel bad asking people for money and promoting a platform where people have to pay for content LOL. But it is there, and I do post to it! The reason I bring it up in this devlog is because the highest tier ($10) gets access to playtesting and the second tier ($5) gets early access to finished builds. With the enhanced demo slowly getting finished, I will be doing playtesting for the new beta build this upcoming month in May. SO if you want playtesting/early access to the enhanced demo, please feel free to check out my Patreon* ^^
*Note: If you’re interested in becoming a patron for the early testing/ playtesting, don't become a patron until May starts otherwise you will get charged for both this month and May ((unless you want to give me money for both months in which case u have my eternal love uwu))
Market Research
Lastly, I did a tiny bit of market research this month! I played Bustafellows after my dear friend Seyl (check out her and her team's game Lost in Limbo!!) recommended it to me.
Tumblr media
Shu: why is his glove so slutty
And of course the game everyone has been talking about, I played the demo for Touchstarved.
Tumblr media
Ais: my favorite, and it's not even close
Looking at these two, and I think I have a thing for smokers lmao. Anyways, I think that's enough from me, so that is all for this month's update! Stay safe, and see you all next month <3

First Post
12/9/2023
Hi, I'm Finian, and this is my first blogpost! I'm really into like every single artform, and my main passion is gamedev! I learned it in highschool, I'm working on it in college, and I hope to make it a career someday.
I'm very critical on myself, and I am very embarrassed to share any art I make, but I've wanted to make a blog for a little while. I think personal writing is fun. I recently received some advice that making a blog might strengthen my portfolio, so I was like "what the heck" and now here I am.
With that out of the way, this post will be about what I consider my first finished game. I did some stuff in highschool, but that was all in a website called code.org. I worked in Unity in my final year, but I served the role of mentor more than developer.
This game was created for my final project in my ENC1143 class, and shall be called my Multimodal Artifact. The assignment was to share what we'd learned over the year in any form of medium we wished, so I made a game. I've only previously done 2D games and I consider myself acceptable at pixel art, so I made a simple 2D platformer. All of my artwork was done in Aseprite and all code was written in Unity, with Visual Studio.
Tumblr media
My intentions going into the game were mainly to let the player interact with the sign pictured above, which is something I've never done before. I also wanted the text on the sign to have a scrollbar. I started with an unanimated player sprite, and I made an incredibly simple ground texture, which I stretched to represent a wall. I coded the player's movement and interaction with the terrain. Once I was satisfied with the player's movement, I created some simple animations for idling, running, and jumping.
Tumblr media
I then created a tileset of which I am extremely proud, as I've been struggling with grassy and leafy terrain for years. This is the second tileset I've ever made, and the first to perfectly link with itself.
Tumblr media
Once I had my tiles in order, I replaced my gaudy primitive, and created the first area of the game as seen in the first image, albeit with significantly less foliage. I created enough level to comfortably house five signs; about half of the game. Finally I began work on the sign itself. The sign was probably the most important part of the game, as its writing is what I was mainly being graded on. There are nine signs in the game, each containing small pieces of the whole final assignment. I created a sprite for the sign in about 20 minutes, and tackled the text with a scroll view. I watched a very helpful video on how it worked, added my TextMeshPro font asset, and made a sign visual behind it all.
Tumblr media
My sign was done, from a visual standpoint. I could finally tackle the code, which I did within two scripts. The first script, "Interactable" would be attached to the sign sprite via a child. The script was actually pretty simple, using OnTriggerEnter and OnTriggerExit in tandem with a circle collider 2D to detect if the player was near enough, and an if statement featuring the UnityEvent Invoke in its body. Invoke calls a function from another script, established in the inspector. In this case, I attached a script to the Canvas which disabled and enabled the sign GameObjects.
Tumblr media
I also added to the sign sprite a key icon, again of my own making, to make sure the player definitely knows what to press. It has an animation which activates when the player walks near the sign.
Tumblr media
Both the coding and the visuals for the sign are finally finished! My final steps for this game were: 1) finish designing the level 2) add some scenery 3) if I had time, a pause screen and maybe even a start screen
This was a single-level game, and since it was an english assignment that needs to be graded, I figured it ought to be very linear and very non-punishing. There are no enemies and no dying, so the difficulty had to come from platforming. The player can jump exactly three tiles high and seven tiles far. The game features one six tile wide jump and no necessary three tile high jumps. The first area, already completed features very easy one to three tile wide gaps.
Tumblr media
The area has the player go from the left of the level to the right, and eventually upwards and back to the left. Within the first zone, it is possible to fall After every new challenge there will be a sign as the player's reward: after the first jump, , two-tile wide jump, series of one-tile wide jumps (pictured above), series of two-tile vertical jumps, and finally after the first four-tile wide jump. There are some punishing jumps in the upper layer of this zone, which cause the player to lose some progress if missed.
Tumblr media
Before making any level past the first sign, I added a second tileset. I took my preciously mentioned first ever tileset, which was a greyish castle brick, and changed it to match my current palette. It's not perfect, but any imperfections are so slight nobody would notice unless they were specifically seeking them out. I added this tileset because I felt continuous jungle would start to get bland, and because I really wanted to get some use out of it. I think it fits in really well.
The second area of my game is a platforming section based off of the loss comic, a suggestion provided to my by my wonderful girlfriend. I think it's a lot of fun to involve others in the gamemaking process, and I think it's fun to work with a specific challenge in mind. I thought of something really fun to do with that idea almost instantly, and got to work.
For those who are unaware, the loss comic is a meme from 2002, which features this character format: I II II I_
I tried loosely to stay within that format, I don't think it tracks very well, but the intention and setup is there.
Tumblr media
I wanted my third and final segment to be the most challenging, and I wanted it to be inside of the castle/temple setting, in hopes of making the play subconsciously go "oh, this area is different." Each area of the game has its subtle distinctions, but the distinction here is the least subtle.
The final area features a great deal of wide and high jumps, as well as the first and only head-hitter in the game. In the final set of jumps it is possible to fall back down to the start of the section, and the very last jump isn't very difficult. I think it sucks when you think you're almost done with everything in a game, and you mess up at the very end and have to start all over. I didn't want the player to feel that way, hence the easier last jump.
Tumblr media
The level was done! My signs (the part I get graded on) were done! I could have some fun with the rest of the game, not that I didn't have fun with the entire previous process, this final bit was just leisure. I love programming.
I started with controls. I put the controls of the game as well as some arrows to point you the right way on rocks, which would not only fit well in the game's environment, but also served well to fill up empty-feeling areas.
Tumblr media
After the rocks, I created some bushes. I considered making hanging vines, but I forgot about it somewhere in the creative process. There's obviously not as many of them as the rocks, but trust me when I say these suckers get some crazy mileage. They're everywhere, rotated for the walls and ceiling, flipped, darkened to appear more in the background, placed somewhat behind rocks. These four bushes were super important to the decoration of this game.
Tumblr media
After the bushes, I adjusted the hue, saturation, and light of the tilesets to make them appear as background elements. I created the background of the game as a repeating tile. I am not confident in my ability to create a full artpiece, rather than smaller assets, and my wonderful girlfriend added some pixels which I feel made it look significantly better than my rendition. I hue shifted it, and it works excellently as the game's background.
Tumblr media
My initial rendition (black was empty) and the final rendition
The final thing to do was to add a pause menu, which is also something I had extremely limited experience with, but found to be super easy. The code is just about the same as making the signs appear and disappear.
Tumblr media
The game was not without its bugs, however. There were two that I wanted to fix: 1) sometimes while walking, the player would randomly get snagged and stop. I believed this to be an issue with the ground's collision 2) sometimes upon landing, the player would fly straight through the floor! I also believed this to be an issue with the ground's collision
I had the ground's collider set to a Tilemap Collider 2D, which is a collider designed specifically for tiles. The way a tilemap collider works is that it assigns a square shaped colllider to every individual tile, and would combine all of those collider together in order to save space if it were more efficient on the system. In my game's case it was not more efficient to combine them. However, combining them is exactly what would fix the first issue, the player snagging on the ground. I added a Composite Collider 2D to the tilemap, and viola! No more snagging. The player would still fall through the ground on occasion, but it happened to me so rarely I figured it would be a nonissue. I added a line of code that would set the player's position to the initial spawn if they went too far beneath the map, as well as the reset button in the pause menu which would do the same.
After these fixes I had my incredibly generous roommate playtest for me. He probably played for about thirty minutes, and he relentlessly fell through the map. It was amazing to me how often he just perfectly fell through the ground. Clearly, this was a bigger issue than I anticipated. Thank goodness for playtesters!
After some research, I realized the composite collider actually created an outline of the tiles, rather than completely filling them with collision. The player would fall through the ground because while falling, their velocity would continually increase. Since the collision of the ground was so slim, the player's high velocity would sometimes cause their collider to be on one side of the ground on one frame, and the other side of the ground on the next, not allowing for any collision to happen. The slim outline of the composite collider was not cutting it. There is a setting on the component labeled "Use Delaunay Mesh" which, when clicked, converts the collider from an outline to a full mesh.
Tumblr media
The orange lines represent the collider
A Delaunay Mesh is a mesh based on Delaunay Triangulation, which is a complicated math term which can be simplified to mean the mesh has the least amount of big system-taxing triangles possible.
My roommate once again playtested for me, this time with no bugs at all. His thirty minute experience turned into a three minute experience. Magical!
There's more I would have liked to do, but my time ran out and I needed to turn the assignment in. I think I would have liked to make a starting screen, and maybe some hanging vines. If I had as much time as I pleased, I would've added walljumping and maybe some destructible decorations to make the player feel more involved.
I think the game was a success. This is my first game I can say I've actually completed, and I feel proud of how far I've come. If I were to do this again, I'd probably study the games "Getting Over It" and "Jump King," as in hindsight these games were fundamentally very similar.
The end! Thank you for reading my silly blogpost! This took way longer than I thought.

Since posting on the potential for the Sequel Trilogy (especially in regards to Leia and Ben's arcs between TLJ and TROS), @myfairkatiecat has asked me for my thoughts. I apologize in advance. There's so much I don't even know where to start. I suppose the best place to start is my thoughts on TFA and TLJ:
I liked the force awakens. It was the first Star Wars movie I'd ever seen. I wasn't planning on getting into Star Wars, because like most people who didn't grow up with the movies, I still knew all the twists, all the memes, and all the quotes. What was the point in seeing it? I knew it was good, but it was hard for me to feel the magic of seeing it for the first time when I'd seen so much out of context already. But the force awakens was new. I know a lot of fans at the time were like "this is a cheap new hope remake" and sure, it had a similar plot structure, but it also introduced a lot of new ideas, characters, and concepts, and I think it succeeded in it's two goals: 1) Offering the beginning to an excited new story that could go in a number of interesting and cool directions. 2) Capturing what was so good about Star Wars in a way that would bring in new fans. It not only succeeded, but it completely knocked it out of the park, at least for me. I remember sitting in the theater, before the movie was even over, and thinking to myself "Dang it. They did it. I didn't think they'd do it, but they actually did it. This is the start of another hyperfixation. Maybe one of the worst I've ever had." I knew 100% that the moment I had free time that this was going to take over. And it did. I appreciated the other movies so much more after having had the experience of watching a Star Wars movie unspoiled that captures that feeling. This brought me into the fandom. It might not be everyone's favorite movie, but I loved it.
The Last Jedi was actually good, but it made one fatal mistake. Two if you count the fact that they skipped all the Ben and Leia stuff, but I forgive them for that because it's not like they could see the future and knew Carrie Fisher was going to pass away. If they knew that, I think they would have written a different script. But I liked most of it. The force dyad stuff was incredible. I was in that theater completely in awe because I gotta hand it to them: I would never in a million years come up with the force dyad stuff, and it's better than anything I could have thought up with on my own. 1000/10. Amazing. Fantastic. So what then is my problem with TLJ? Finn. Especially because he was right where he needed to be. They could have even done his arc in a lazy way, and I would have still accepted it. All they had to do was have him panic and rescue Rose from Hux, accidently connecting him to the force, and then he could suddenly be like "woah I'm force sensitive." All they had to do was have him find some files on where he came from and info on all the stormtrooper brainwashing so that we could continue to explore the mystery of his past instead of pretending like it doesn't matter. For heaven sakes, he was right there on the ship. We saw a hologram of child Finn in Force Awakens when they were going over his file. Phasma could have offer him information about himself or his past in exchange for his freedom or betraying the rebellion. Not to mention Finn's discovery his force sensitivity would have parallel Rey discovering she's a dyad AND her not receiving any answers about her past, which would that tied the movie together thematically. That plotline was right there on a silver plater, it was the obvious choice, the easy part, it baffles me that they fumbled it, especially when the stuff they did with Kylo and Rey completely knocks it out of the park. I've probably watched the scene of the two of them fighting in the throne room the most of any Star Wars scene. But I don't think I've ever gone back to rewatch one of Finn's scenes from TLJ. But I could have and that frustrates me so much. I left the theater of TFA being like "Dang. They got me. I'm hyperfixated now.", and I left the theater of TLJ feeling kind of conflicted. On the one hand, the force dyad stuff was one of the best things I'd ever seen. But on the other hand, I wanted more out of Finn. The Rose and Finn kiss came out of nowhere for me, and it made me worried they were gonna waste time in the third movie with an unnecessary Rose, Rey, Finn love triangle then ended with Finn and Rey together (turns out I did not need to worry about that. They had plenty of other ways to waste my time. But I'll put my thoughts on the romance plotlines in another post because...romance wasn't the biggest draw for me anyway, and my takes on it are a tad more nuanced than "love it or hate it with everything in my soul" which seem to be the only two options). But my other worry was that they didn't seem to know what they were doing with Finn. They also have a lot of "Main characters" to keep track of now. The OT trilogy had the classic "Leia, Luke, Han". Now we have Rey, Poe, and Finn, but Rey and Poe didn't meet until the end of the second movie, and also we have Rose now, and then we have Kylo/Ben and his whole dyad bond, he's much more of a main character than dark mysterious villain. In the OT trilogy, was Vadar conflicted? Sure, but we as the audience didn't fully know that until the end, we didn't need to spend a ton of screen time following his internal journey. But we did need that for Kylo/Ben because of everything they set up for him. With all of that, plus Carrie Fisher dying (which would likely force them to rework a lot of their plotlines), I did have concerns going into TROS. But, since they blew me away with the force dyad stuff, I held out hope that they wouldn't fumble it. Sure, I saw the negative reviews. But everyone was crying about TFA and TLJ too, and I enjoy those. So I held out that hope until the end.
And...well... I have thoughts on TROS too. But I'll save those for another time. Also: I know things can get heated in the star wars fandom, and while I welcome engagement and it's totally cool if you hated TFA, loved Finn's TLJ arc, and hated the force dyad, (different opinions are fine!) please don't hate on my posts and please be respectful. Thanks! 🥰

would genuinely love to see your process for sketching out your comics!! ive wanted to make my own but i have never really figured out the process and end up overwhelmed- and you're one of the folks who makes stuff in a style that I kinda draw close to, and u do ur comics with pencil and paper- so if you wouldn't mind in the future, it'd be really cool to see how you actually get everything planned :)
This ask is so cute :( probably genuinely the biggest compliment I've ever received! Well, no waiting in the future! I'll tell you now what happens behind the scenes! :)
SO FIRSTLY, I'd like to clarify I am in no way a professional or even close to one, I never even looked up how to do comics, I just kinda do them and use what I've read from DC comics and Pinterest tips.
But! Personally, I find that making comics is fun and that's what I strive on. I won't lie when I say my comics are pretty bland, the surroundings are empty and lame but I think the character's expressions and body language make up for it, and especially the script. So altogether in this post, I'll be breaking down how my comics are made!
↓↓↓ if you're interested, open up the full post!
1 - Scripting
In both dialogue and character detail/placing!
I use a notes app for when I get ideas!
* I usually don't do specific dialogue, only stating the idea and then coming up with dialogue in my head, but there are some exceptions where I do write down pre-thought-out dialogues you can see in the examples I put below!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With the idea / dialogue in tow, we can go to character detail / placing. I don't know the actual word for it but basically how the character acts in a specific scene / dialogue!
Character expression is especially important when it comes to any type of art, be it comics or animation as it can tell a story with little to no dialogue!
* panels taken from 1 and 2 for context
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From here you can clearly tell their expressions well! Be sure to exaggerate!
2 - Limit planning
With Tumblr's 10 images limit, as well as Instagram if you post there, it's important to note that limit and know when to end the comic with a good panel where it doesn't feel like it's supposed to continue UNLESS you're making two parts!
I can't tell you how many times I've ruined my sketchbook papers trying to get a perfect script but I've been doing it long enough that my brain has adapted to the limit and every comic I've done since adapting had been a perfect ≤10.
But even if you decide to go with two (or maybe even more) parts, you should make sure it ends well still! Like a book! Those spaces between paragraphs and chapters and such!
Take these for examples too!
* panels taken from 1 and 2 for context
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So treat it like a book! I guess ?
3 - Panel placement
This isn't a necessity, but my personal way of drawing each panel is having it scattered around randomly around my sketchbook. I don't use strips or anything like that as it restricts me because using strips on paper is a whole lot harder than on digital. Because I have such a wide area to draw, I'm less restricted from drawing any excess things I want to add in case my dialogue doesn't fit the panel or so!
4 - Draw
Now to put it all together and make the comic! I usually already have my vision in mind so I can just go draw it without a light sketch layer, but I do recommend it!
What that is is essentially a sketch but drawn like.. your pencil is hovered above the page? Like you don't press down on it or something like that. Basically a guideline! So do that if you need it, and when you're satisfied with how it looks, you can draw it! And make sure it's clear!
After that, it's just picture and post! (Make sure you crop it right tho!)
4.5 - BONUS / TIPS
When I started posting Belos drawings, I never expected it to get any attention or even end up as a whole AU 😭 I just drew him in a babygirl hoodie and people ate that shit up so now it's an AU 💀 and because of that you need to prepare personalized tags!
Tags like pitmdau or sharing caleb au ! Very very useful for navigation
More important than tags, make sure you have a Masterpost!
I'm aware mine are unfinished and very messy and I'm trying to work on that right now but it's very difficult but people really need it so when making Masterposts, YOU HAVE KEEP UP WITH IT. I slacked of for ONE POST and now it's a mess.
Also another important note you can only put 100 links in one post so you have to make more Masterposts to navigate through the comics 😭
5 - Have fun!
When getting into comic making, I think really the most important thing to keep in mind is your enjoyment in making said comics. Sometimes some things can burn you out very quickly so when you're getting into things like this, especially when you're not getting paid, you gotta make sure you have fun doing it. It doesn't matter if it doesn't get a lot of traction or not, it only matters that you are enjoying making and posting them!
I've experienced MULTIPLE burn outs from making too many comics for my TOH AUs that at some point I just completely died and lacked motivation. But what drives me into making them are other people's enjoyment! Their enjoyment gives me enjoyment which gives me motivation to make more. Someday I'll know the AUs I've created will inevitably be over, at some point, but right now I'm just having fun with the small community I've built!
So make comics, and have fun!
I hope this was helpful in any way. I just want to clarify that, again, this is my way of making comics, and you don't have to follow anything I put into the post. I'm mostly hoping this was easy to understand as well. I'm more of a visual learner so making up the words to make this was kinda hard so I'm sorry if some parts didn't make sense. If anything, feel free to hit me with another ask or a PM! I know me not posting seems like I'm inactive but I promise I check Tumblr frequently 😭
Happy posting!!! :3

Revising Idle Hands... again
Final time, I swear!!!
I wasn't going to make a post about this until I actually got it all done. I was also going to write a full rewrite on the side to see which one I liked better because the structure was going to change to where the genre felt more in line with typical erotica or whatever.
But a bunch of stuff happened and I've lost the vision of how I was going to do that. XD Even though I have notes for it, they ain't really doing anything for me.
Maybe it'll come to me after I do the revisions, but either way, yes I finally have the story completely figured out now. 😅 (or the backstory, rather, which is still important. The plot is pretty simple otherwise, it's just the motivations and such weren't fleshed out and was making writing harder and harder. Basically, it just felt like I couldn't make them do what the script says they're going to do).
Currently, Naruto and Hinata don't have significant history together and I didn't realize that's what was making the story's progression fall apart in my head. Anyways, now they do and I have to go through what I already have on Ao3 to accommodate that detail. I probably don't have to do much, but I might also write in new scenes if they fit.
The other thing is Sasuke. I actually felt like he was too chatty towards the end of Ch 5 and that bothers me, on top of that chattiness being purely convenient exposition, like, it just feels lazy of me, so that's getting axed to some degree. There's also some flaws in the paint thinner scene as well. But more importantly... I am changing Sasuke to a new kid in town. I'm thinking he moved in while Naruto was out of town, so when Naruto came back, 'the sticks' suddenly became very interesting and that's why they're 'friends'. This will also open him up to be fascinated with the beef between Naruto and Hinata since he wasn't there for any of that.
Other revisions will be worldbuilding related for my own satisfaction. They'll affect Naruto's characterization to a degree. I also think that this probation shouldn't affect his ability to do what he wants as much as it's currently portrayed, so I'm going to see what I can do about that.
I started "IWGP: Ikebukuro West Gate Park" on Netflix a few days ago and it gave me ideas. I should actually try to binge it though so that way I don't have regret when the other episodes inspire me and I'm all like 'Oh no, I could have put that there'. 😅😅😅 But I'm so impatient, I want to write already!!!!!!1!111! 😤😤😤
Anyways, in the future I am going to try to write my stuff all in one sitting so this doesn't keep happening to me again. 😓 Like my Shibari AU when I get around to it, and Dissolve Me. I gotta rough draft the hell out of those for sure, and probably multiple times. 😤 I honestly kind of want to combine the current chapters of Dissolve Me into the first chapter as well, but I dunno, that kind of feels like a vanity thing eheh.
Anyhoo, I'm pretty excited about this project again, yay! 🥰🤪🥳

Some people in the notes of my recent calligraphy piece said they were interested in manuscripts and stuff, so I thought you all might want to see some of my process pics (there are many! I've been working on this project for almost a year!)
Also, I think my own process is interesting, and I wanted to write it out. Very long post with lots of images under the cut:
I first had the idea for the piece as a submission for a zine that didn't come to fruition. I knew I really wanted to do a piece of text from SMEN, made to look like an illuminated manuscript, but I didn't really know how to... do that. And also I didn't know SMEN that well, so I went through all the text and pulled out some quotes I thought seemed kinda church-y, and drew up a few thumbnails for the finished photo. Honestly, the finished product didn't look that far off from that picture in the middle! Although I guess I was originally planning to use a fork as a prop?
Tumblr media
Some of the very first drafts. I'm not great at figuring out layouts and line spacing, so I wrote all the text on a separate paper and cut the words out, so I could figure out where they should go. I kept them all in a little envelope, but it looks like I've lost a few, lol. The capital letter and border designs are from The Bible of Illuminated Letters by Margaret Morgan. I think it's funny to look back on these, because the hands they were done in (Foundational and Gothicized Italic, respectively) are ones I really haven't touched since, and am not good at at ALL. At the time, Foundational Hand was the only broad-edge script I kind of knew, and the Gothicized Italic was just me attempting to copy the exemplar from Foundations of Calligraphy by Sheila Waters (which, if you're interested in learning broad-edge calligraphy, is a book I cannot recommend highly enough)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tried making a full draft using the materials (I assumed) I would be using in the final version. Seeing it altogether, I could tell that... well first of all, I obviously used WAY too big of a nib because I couldn't get all the lines on the page, but also that I didn't really like... any of it. I don't think it's bad (and I didn't then), but it really wasn't what I was picturing for this project.
Tumblr media
I took a workshop on a new calligraphic hand specifically for this piece, because.... that's a good use of my time and money. Anyway, I tried writing out the text in Textura (left) and Fraktur (right). The workshop I took was focusing on Fraktur, but we learned some Textura, too, because Fraktur is just if you took Textura and, well.... fractured it. I think I planned on using this ink for the final version, but I didn't, because I... I think I just forgot to buy more? Maybe it would have been too much red.
Strictly speaking, Fraktur wouldn't be the hand one would traditionally use with the border I picked for the final piece. The white vine style of border originated in the 15th century, in the Renaissance (frequently they're called Renaissance white vines), and Fraktur started in the 16th century. Also (and this might be wrong), I think fraktur was designed to be a typeface, and not specifically for calligraphy? I haven't been able to find any handwritten manuscripts that used fraktur, but I might just be missing something. The white vine style border would probably be used with something more like italic calligraphy! But I don't know italics, and I liked the sharpness of Fraktur. I thought it worked well for a manuscript page that's supposed to represent a sort of... self-harm cult.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I briefly considered, instead of doing the full border and big capital like I did in the final version, doing a large versal with filigree, like the work of Benoit Furet. I took a workshop from him on how to do them, but tbh, when I tried to do it, it looked really messy and childish. I don't have any photos of my attempts at filigrees, but just know that I did consider them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I decided I wanted to do a full border decoration, instead of filigrees, so I took a workshop on some. This was focused on Renaissance Floral Borders, like the one below, which is (as you can see) from the Visconti Hours (an illuminated Book of Hours from the late 14th century)
Tumblr media
I designed one to put on the piece, and I also chose a different design for the capital- a big Roman N, with what was supposed to kind of look like a top-down well behind it. When I finally put everything together, I... well to be quite honest, I hated it. The different design elements didn't really seem to coalesce, instead looking more like I just cut and pasted different stuff than it did that time I actually did that, a few pictures earlier. This design is entirely thrown out, and we start over.
Tumblr media
So I took another workshop! I love to learn, and I occasionally even enjoy being taught. This one was on Renaissance White Vine borders, like these ones:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I liked these because they seemed a little bigger and busier than the floral borders, and I thought that might be better for what is, really, a very simple piece. Here's some design attempts! The white dots in the background are actually very traditional, but I chose not to use them in my finished piece, because I thought it made the whole thing look too cute. Also I forgot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Funnily enough, for all my investigation into manuscripts, the boarder design I used wasn't really from any actual historical piece! I liked this one a lot, so the final border was inspired by it. I'm not really sure who made it, or when. When I took this workshop, the instructor gave us a packet of examples, and this was one of them. The caption just says it's a page from "a beautiful album prepared by the Harris Studio, Chicago."
Tumblr media
I don't understand how gilding works and at this point, I'm too afraid to ask. I have a bottle of Instacoll and some gold leaf sitting on my supply shelf, and I think they're there just to bully me. I would give them my lunch money if they told me to. Previous drafts were done with Coliro metallic watercolors (from left to right in the previous draft images, it was Rose Gold, Arabic Gold, and Moon Gold), and I decided I would just use that in the final version, too.
Tumblr media
I mostly settled on my vine border/capital, so I did another full draft. Why did I do this one landscape, even though I was going to do the final version in portrait? Well, you see, it's very simple: I didn't wanna deal with my hand bumping into the binding on my sketchbook. And while I COULD have just torn a piece OUT of the sketchbook and used that, uh, well... I didn't.
Tumblr media
Around this time, I got an iPad, so I decided to try making a digital draft in Procreate. I'm pretty bad at picking colors, and it was a real pain to have to mix up so much paint every time I wanted to try a different color scheme. And I was running out of red gouache! So I thought that, if I made it digitally, I could mess around with the colors a lot easier, and then use that to mix my paints.
Tumblr media
After I did the calligraphy and added my border, though, I thought the whole thing looked pretty empty, so I extended the border below and above the text. I used a bottom border design like the one in this piece, which is from the same place as the other one I was referencing.
Tumblr media
As for the top border, I kinda just made it up! I drew some swirls and some flowers and then erased it and redrew it until I decided I liked it.
For the colors, I (as I said) am very bad at colors. I don't know how they work, and they scare me! I ended up coloring the border in grayscale, and then use a gradient map to get colors with the right values.
Tumblr media
After that, I printed out the digital version and used my light table to trace it onto a piece of Arches 90lb Hot Press watercolor paper.
Tumblr media
The lines were done in a sepia Sakura Micron pen. The calligraphy is mostly done in an iron gall ink with a Mitchell Roundhand nib size 3. The first line was done with a 2.4 mm Pilot Parallel pen, in Pilot Red. (The part that says "The Name" was the Pilot Red ink, but with the smaller nib.) I don't have any in-progress pictures of this part, but I did the calligraphy, and then the gold (in Coliro Arabic Gold watercolor), and then I painted the boarder background in Windsor & Newton gouache.
Then I set up everything for my photo! I draped a piece of black linen over my desk (including my very tall desk lamp, so I could get some verticality/block out the rest of my living room from the photo), and grabbed some of the props I'd been accumulating while working on this.
The resin knife and the candle/candle holder I bought off etsy, the red cup I got at Goodwill, and the ribbon is... I think just something I had on hand? You can't really see the cup in the final photo, but it was just out of frame to the right. I also had a few different colors of candles (one was white and one was clear red with gold foil that actually wasn't able to be lit) but the black candle looked best, AND was the right color for St. Arthur's Candle
Tumblr media
I think that's everything I have to say!! Hope this was interesting, but if it wasn't: haha I just tricked you into reading that boring thing.

hi queen, could you maybe give some insight on how you got into the motorsport social media world, for people who are maybe interested in that career?
hello anon, sorry this is probably gonna get long
so the short version is: I was already working in social media for Radio 1/1xtra/2/6 so handling some pretty big accounts etc. after that I wrote additional social content for Netflix shows and then I moved on to some big motorsport ones.
which is a boringly unhelpful answer because 'just already be a producer at the BBC' is not really a career path.
that said, I do know how it works.
the first thing is: social media is a broad genre. you should take some time to work out what kind of social you like making; if you're into graphic design, for instance, that's a social media job but so is writing TikTok scripts or posting as a brand or driver.
I would recommend making some kind of low pressure account and using it to mess around. give yourself a chance to find out what you're good at, if you're not going in knowing - me, I can write and I can produce but I'm not an enthusiastic or quick video editor and graphic design is definitely not my passion.
once you've worked out what you want to do, start at grassroots. there's going to be a point (this is the way with all passion fields) where you have to gain some experience by working for free. there's two ways to do this: find a grassroots motorsport thing (a person, an event, a Formula Student team, whatever) and propose doing their social media. a lot of drivers keep the same social media agency as they go all the way up the ladder (Lando's done this, for instance) so it can be a route to bigger things in and of itself. but most importantly it can get you experienced in negotiating the world of motorsport social media - how to deal with things like broadcast rights and where you can and can't film in a paddock, how to drive engagement and interact with fans, etc.
the other option is to start a project account. something like The Female Drive, which is run by a Sauber engineer. that's a really good example of an account that shows obvious skill in producing social content without creating an unreasonable work burden. the account becomes both something that you own, as its own little motorsport property and a showcase for what you can do. it's a really good way to start getting yourself accreditation or being noticed. on a bigger scale but still coming from that grassroots start, Parc Fermé have made a major success launching their agency like that, due on a major level to Lids' incredible photography but it shows the worth of going down that route and basically creating your own job.
if what you want to do is present TikTok, obviously, then you just need to start doing that and working on improving. make the type of content you want to make - that won't be interviewing Max Verstappen from the outset but you can find other ways to make it work. be creative, use your friends, do the things you'd like to watch.
the third way, which you should not do, is working what should be a paid role. a good (well, bad) example of this is this Formula Nerds recruitment ad that I saw earlier today. under UK law, you can't be a volunteer with responsibilities and volunteer roles, which are actually very regulated, have to be demonstrably beneficial to the holder. it's also just extremely shitty that people ask people to work for free; if your publication isn't making enough money, you do that yourself and you can hire people when it is.
if you want to gain experience in a professional setting, look out for internship schemes. you'll be better placed if you can show them examples of your work, which is why it's good to do that earlier experience but they should be regulated, clearly marked as an internship and paid. motorsport is a multibillion-dollar industry where even at the lowest levels thousands of pounds are changing hands, you do not work for free unless it's for yourself.
some good people to look out for opportunities with are Rosie from 115dgrs, Lois at MP, Revolution Comms, Influence Associates and Pace Six Four.

terror rewatch time!!! i'll be using this post to comment on ep. 6 "a mercy" block the tag terrorwatch2 if you'd like :-)
jirv's bandaged hand in the first scene :-(
also interesting thing is that when we see john ross in the show he actually seems aware that his men came close to killing him, that in life or death situations hierarchy disappears and whatnot, given both his warnings to franklin and his conduct when lady jane and sophia were at the admiralty. but of course he wouldn't put it in his memoirs; it's a truth he was able to confront privately within himself and a few other people perhaps but before the public? never.
i didn't remember bridgens overhearing part of the conversation between blanky and jfj
❗️ FIRST JFJ GENDER MOMENT ❗️
"turmoil on the inside needn't show on the outside" says soooo much about jopson in general. what sort of internal struggles might compel him to always be outwardly impeccable?
was this scene the first time crozier refers to him as just Thomas???
the cut from hickey poking around heather's brains to jacko poking into the canned food!!!
oh if tozer saw hickey doing that to heather he would have bashed HIS brains in methinks
hickey did out 2 and 2 together regarding them having to march out surprisingly quickly; he is pretty smart, but also absolutely not as smart as he thinks he is, and of course would eventually be done in by his narcissism and god delusions. also appears he kept an eye on jirv specifically 👀👀👀 once on his shitlist always on his shitlist
ned looking over at jopson as the latter is summoned is very interesting. and hickey's snarky little "a worst case of gastritis surely there never was"... is he trying to sound out where ned stands regarding crozier at that moment, seeing if they can be allied? let us remember that when he was with billy they discussed the other two lieuts' activities...
very interesting about hickey pointing out tommy armitage always wanted to be a marine, and considering tommy probably feels he owes him/has genuine gratitude for him not pointing out that he was also in the party that kidnapped silna + his proximity to the marines = hickey maybe having access to guns which could be useful for. you know. stuff 👀👀👀👀
and of course when hartnell asks him a question about himself he deflects immediately because. you know. and also the parallel with him asking hartnell "do you think crozier sees as a new man?" and previously his talk with Billy "the captain doesn't see you at all" and the worst thing is eventually crozier DID come to see hartnell and clearly held him in high regard!!! and if hickey wasn't terrible maybe crozier could have come to see him but the thing is. hickey wants to be SEEN and he doesn't necessarily mind if it is in a bad light... I'm thinking about his talk with goodsir last episode and the script saying that he smiles because he likes being perceived even if in fact goodsir is seeing right through him.
❗️ SECOND JFJ GENDER MOMENT ❗️
❗️ CHARLES DES VOEUX ALERT ❗️
❗️ BRIDGLAR ALERT ❗️
jirv singing and drinking with an angel costume...... i truly he chose the costume as a way to show that he can poke fun at himself..... "look guys i do have a sense of humor and some self-awareness about my religiosity..... i'm light-hearted...." :-((((
goddddd blanky drinking out of his prosthetic
tozer, heather and armitage on the corner :-((
WAAAAAAIT THE TWO GUYS IN THE POT I DIDN'T REMEMBER THAT. very interesting foreshadowing of both the cannibalism and the breakdown of the modes of masculinity/sexuality that follow as they get themselves more doomed by the minute
HICKEY SAVED BY THE PISS ALSO ❗️CHARLES DES VOEUX ALERT ❗️
crozier's speech!!!! truly a sober crozier is the best captain anyone could ask for. also "strange in ways we will find impossible to recount when we are safe and home"... both in terms of the tuunbaq and also the fact that they're on the very edge of propriety about many other things as well. and also well. his choice to not recount it in the end by simply not returning.
the despair on sol's face about heather :-(((
how interesting that hickey probably saved A LOT of man's lives considering 1) what he'd do later and 2) he had to kill a doctor to do it.
probably like. the one action hickey might truly regret was accidentally killing MacDonald but that was arguably one of his best acts bc it eventually saved a lot of peoples' lives.
something very powerful about the carnivale- as crozier put it a manifestation of their longing for home- burning to ash. oh baby you are never making out alive.
the final shots... it really feels like the moment of "even if we make it back to england alive there are some things which simply can never be discussed or said aloud or admitted to anyone not even ourselves"

Yet somehow further devlog #6
Ahoy all, it's around that time of the month again where I show off what I've been working on! While, this time I don't quite have a game ready to be shown, I do want to show some tools and scripts I've been working on in the meanwhile in preparation for a game genre I want to try and tackle.
#1 Dialogue scripts!
Since my on/off break at the start of the month, I've been reworking an old dialogue tool I've made starting way back when I was still working in Love2D. Originally, it was hastily put together, not quite understanding the full scope of how it all worked, but hey, it ran. Since then, I've ported it over to Godot and been making major improvements, taking some notes from my event system script (a script which lets you queue "events" to run in a specified order, waiting for each event to be completely finished running before continuing to the next one.) to make it its own thing!
Since the original Love2D version of the script, I've always wanted to reproduce something I saw from a tweet (which I can't find anymore, of course), which showed the in-house 'dialogue script' reader which was easy to write/read and even color coded on top of that which made it even easier to read! I remember being so inspired by that original tweet that, well, after all this time I can say I finally made something practically on par with it! here's a little snippet as an example:
Tumblr media
This doesn't show the full scope of what I created, with ~17 keywords total, some of which having different effects depending on sub-keywords, eg. "money add 100" or "money remove 100", etc.
While it's not modular enough for me to 'pack it and ship it' out for the masses (trust me, I'd have to make a lot of changes for it to properly work more modularly and fit into others' projects), but I'm proud of what I created nonetheless.
#2 Point and click buttons
I've messed around with a point and click style game for a while, but never really got far into it because I always like things working a very specific way, and one thing I could never get working how I want them to is buttons. Specifically, the ones Godot has by default. They do their job, but at the end of the day it doesn't fit exactly what I want out of them, especially for a project like this. So I set out to code my own buttons, heavily based off and using what Godot have already set up.
Tumblr media
Behold! ...Yeah, I know it's not much to look at, but it was hard! I swear! I mean, check this out:
Tumblr media
I fit in a few different mouse detection types (think of it like the button's hitbox), and different ways the button will react on hovering over it! I know, I know. probably not very exciting, but it was fun to program together and get working! There's a lot more on the back-end, specifically with that mysterious "Hover Name ID", which I can set to be 'undiscovered' (like in the screenshot) if it's a location on a map, or maybe you want to have an area locked off and hidden until you progress through the story a certain amount? Perhaps the name of a character changes until a sudden twist?! all easily done with a line or two of code rather than having to wrestle the code down and change it to work a specific way.
#3 Put it together and you have yourself a Visual Novel
Yeah, that's right. I'm working on a visual novel! Hah! Well, that is as soon as I'm able to get what I deem a fun and exciting story and manage to get it out of production and available for everyone to play. Now, some might say "why not use an engine/framework that's already out there and built for visual novels so you don't have to do all this work? Like Ren'py?" and to that I say... fair point. However, I've always loved writing some of the backend scripts, even if they aren't the most pretty. They get things done the way I want them to, which means I can work more efficiently and have fun making scripts and whatnot along the way.
I know this isn't exactly the most exciting for anyone who's used to seeing me post cute pixels and miles of progress, but something's clearly up with me lately and until I get to the bottom of it I'll have to inch forward with my progress and show what I've achieved, even if it's not the most exciting.
tl;dr I made some nice backend tools which allow me to more quickly work on some fun project(s) in future, hopefully.
As always, for anyone who would like further knowledge, feel free to ask! And to all those who read this far, thank you!

Well dang it, I've had a nibble of engagement, and I'm finally letting it tempt me. Wanna read my comic scripts? I'm really hoping you do!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is planned as a 30-issue comic series. I have chosen to write the entire thing and make it as good as I can before I attempt to draw any of the actual pages. Partly this is perfectionism, and partly it is because I know how long it would take me to attempt to draw it, and how unlikely I'd be to ever complete it. I wanted to focus on completing something, and I've chosen the writing.
I have written 15 (half!) of the 30 issues, and they have already seen many, many revisions. (Much thanks to the three people who have read them and given me feedback!) I am quite confident that these first 15 issues are very close to their final forms, and they are definitely good enough for me to share with you all.
I have also done a few sketches and bits of standalone art for the characters*, so while I have no comic pages drawn yet, I will occasionally include some of these sketches in with the script, just to give your optic nerves more of a workout. It's the least I can do! I'm thinking I can post one issue script per week? That's 15 weeks of new content for ya, with more to eventually follow!
*All designs subject to small changes down the line.
Tumblr media
I post these issues mainly to share them. My experience has been that people almost never want to read a comic script, but sadly, the writing is as much as I can do right now, and I am in fact proud of what I've done so far, and very much looking forward to tackling the second half. However, I am always looking for feedback, and I will be WIDE OPEN for questions, critique and suggestions. Not saying I'll necessarily change things based on your feedback, but I do welcome it! Also, of course, I'd love it if you shared these around, talked them up to your friends, if you like them!
Read on for more about the story itself!
Tumblr media
River & Ash is a slow-burn supernatural gay romance, set in an alternate version of our real world. The material is treated maturely (I like to think) but with only about a PG-13 rating. (No smut, no super-strong language.) There is angst in parts of it, but there is also a lot of wholesome shmoop. And while the focus is mostly on the evolution of the relationship between the two main characters, there is also plot, and mini-arcs, with minor superheroics, alternate history pop culture, and an original mythology and history that is teased and then slowly revealed over the course of the story. It also happens to have a very proactive, driven individual for a main character (River). I say this just in case, like me, you don't love when magic/the supernatural just sort of happens to the protagonist to kick off a story.
Tumblr media
Ripped from the introductory page that begins every issue…
"Once, the world was full of magic… because humanity once shared the world with demons. History tells that for thousands of years they coexisted, sometimes happily, sometimes not, but one truth never changed: any human who made a deal with a demon would be granted incredible power of their own… for a price.
But in the Middle Ages, during the rise of the Catholic church, a small pocket of humanity attempted to purge these magical beings from existence. The details were lost to time, but what is known is that the demons who survived collectively renounced mankind and disappeared, removing themselves and their influence. 1101 became known as the year magic vanished from the world.
Centuries later, on the same day he suffers a horrifying loss, River McAllister is given what appears to be a real demon book. These rare, indestructible relics have been mostly hoarded away, and there hasn't been a confirmed demon sighting in over a thousand years. It seems impossible. He knows it probably won't work. But if he can find a way to translate it, he might just be able to summon the demon that belongs to it… and maybe make a deal of his own."

The first will be posted forthwith. Thank you in advance so very much!

Billy Hargrove SFW Alphabet
Tumblr media
so i tried to have this done last night and then fell asleep at W. oops.
long post below the cut
Billy SFW
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
As I'm sure we’re all aware, Billy is incredibly touch starved. Actually, the poor boy is affection starved in general. He doesn't really know how to show affection that isn't in a transactional way. i.e you make him feel good and he’ll do the same thing for you. He can be affectionate in a very superficial way, charming words and small presents and little touches. To Billy this isn't really affection, this is just what's expected of him by the people who want him. It's just a script he follows, he doesn't get any real enjoyment out of it.
I think of him like a skittish cat. You need to warm him up a little with your affection before he feels safe enough to give it back. Be genuine and start small and don't expect anything back. EVENTUALLY he will realise this relationship is different and let his walls down a little.  Billy likes to share as his love language: he gives you his jacket, some of his food, his tapes, a sip of his drink etc. he likes to share space with you but only you're alone, pda squicks him out.
Once he's comfortable, Billy will literally take any affection you want to give. You wanna softly squidge his face and give him kisses? Cool! wanna call him over to taste what you're cooking? Nice! You got him something dumb from a gift shop in another state? Sweet it's going on his fireplace forever now. I will say that since he is so unaccustomed to affection, it's going to take a while for him to realise what you're doing IS affection and probably even longer for him to start reciprocating. But when he does? Oh boy you won't be able to get away from it.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Absolute nightmare lets get that straight right away. Billy would treat you like any other friend at the start: you go to parties neither of you are really interested in, kicking your ass at basketball and generally making a nuisance of himself at your house. But the more he does it, the lamer his excuses get. It’s obvious that it's not you he really wants to hang out with, at least not at first. He just wants an out, an excuse not to go back to cherry lane and be stuck in the house with neil. Of course you know he’s only prolonging the inevitable, and staying out all night with the excuse he had one beer at dinner at yours and didn't want to drive home was never going to fly for long.
After a while he does genuinely start to enjoy hanging with you. It's a nice change of pace from always having to be ‘on’ in front of the others. You're his person, the first to hear news good or bad, his one phone call and the place he goes when things are bad at home. He comes by all hours of the day and night looking for company or even just a place to lay his head. He's over so often you might as well get him his own key.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
Billy is a little afraid of physical contact for obvious reasons, particularly when he's not in control. For that reason I think you should let him do most of the initiating of contact, at least at the start. The way he flinches or jumps when someone or something touches him without warning is heartbreaking. Even before you hear the whole story, it's obvious something is up. At first I imagine he only cuddles in his sleep, subconsciously reaching out for comfort when he's under but pulling away again as soon as he wakes up. Eventually however he’ll want to purposefully fall asleep and wake up in contact with you. He likes being little spoon and if he's decided you can be trusted he’ll rarely be out of your space. Even if there's seats available you'll find him gradually creeping towards you until he winds up on your lap (or you on his). Maybe he’ll lean against your legs on the sofa or put his head in your lap. Any excuse to sit and chill with you.
I mentioned above he doesn't like any kind of pda but sometimes if he's feeling anxious, he’ll reach out and link pinky fingers with you. Just a little weight for reassurance and so you can't feel how clammy his hands are, he gets embarrassed by it.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
Billy is very domestic but it's not really by choice. He learned by watching his mom essentially be a maid for his father, but being a child he didn't realise what was going on: he was just happy to spend time with her and I doubt she’d complain about having company or another pair of hands to do the laundry or cook dinner. When she left, Billy took over the majority of the housework. At first it was an attempt to keep the peace; Neil cant be angry if everything is perfect right? House tidy and dinner on the table and everything will be good. It never worked that way, Neil always found something to complain about and even if he didn't outright punish Billy he certainly knew how to make an atmosphere to the point Billy just stopped bothering by the time susan was on the scene.
In Hawkins, Billy goes out of his way to help as little around the house as possible. He can do all of the chores, probably better than max, and could probably even cook better than Susan ( i canon billy's mom was hispanic /native or of hispanic/native descent so she knew a lot of traditional dishes) but given he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn't, he’d rather just not waste the effort.
The only chore he does religiously is tidying things up. Nothing on the counter tops, no trash sitting in the bin, no laundry piling up on chairs or in baskets. Again, he doesn't enjoy this, he's just doing it to keep the peace because he knows neil will absolutely fly off the handle if he finds anything that could be considered “mess”
Alone, in his own place? He can be kind of a slob but only at the start of living there, he eventually gets tired of it and tidies up but only because HE wants to, not because he's being forced.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
Billy is a ghoster at best and a “we were never REALLY dating” dudebro at worst. Most of his relationships have been so short lived that the other person has no comeback, they usually don't argue with him. He has a tendency to call things off when he starts catching feelings. Trauma response i guess, ‘you can't leave me if i leave first’ sort of thing. I imagine if you wanted to be in it for the long haul you’d need to (gently) call him on his bullshit. He's not emotionally intelligent enough to realise that's why he's doing what he's doing. If you were done with him too, then no harm no foul, let him call things off. But if you really care about him you're going to have to fight for it. Honestly I think he might love you all the more for it.
That being said, if you two really weren't happy together, he would absolutely make you be the one to break up with him, not the other way around.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
Hmm. not positive feelings if i'm honest. Maybe that's because he’s got literally no model or frame of reference for a healthy relationship, but he's not really game for the kind of commitment where you have to get the government involved. Something purely symbolic? Sure he can do that, he doesn't need to have a piece of paper to say he’s yours and you're his. If I'm being totally honest he might propose and then get cold feet about the whole thing. He has anxiety about relationships breaking down and having no one left AND anxiety about losing his freedom to leave if he needs too. Basically the man has a lot of anxiety.
In an ideal world, maybe 10 years post vecna nonsense when everyone has had a LOT of therapy I can see him settling down with someone, maybe somewhere along the west coast. I imagine it’d be a small affair, maybe even just rings, max as flower girl and a closed ceremony in city hall . I imagine if you had the kind of money to splurge, he’d rather you did it on the honeymoon than just the wedding: maybe a week in Bali? Sidney? Somewhere he can go surf and look at you being cute on the beach.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
He's trying his best and all things considered he’s doing pretty good. 5 outta 10 but an A for effort. Post starcourt he's the one who needs a gentle approach. You need to be clever about it though because if he thinks you're treating him like glass he's going to throw a shitfit. Treat him like normal with a little extra patience and softness and you'll get the best reaction from him. Normal Billy is rough the way most young men are, a little bit crude, a little boisterous etc. he’ll calm down with age but if that's not your jam you’ll need to be direct and tell him it's not on.
I can't see him being physical with you, even in an argument. Billy never throws the first punch even when he's on the back foot and he’ll be damned if he ever raises his hand to someone he loves. He can be mean but he's not as bitchy as say, Steve harrington or as cutting and to the point as Murry, but his words still have edge, mostly because they hit close to home.
He’ll usually apologise after he calms down though.
We know Billy has a temper but I imagine with age and therapy that will fade too; even when he’s at his worst he's more likely to implode rather than explode. On his bad days he is sharp and quiet, so gentle and slow moving you might mistake him for a statue. On his best days he’s rowdy but oh so soft, bursting with big energy and bigger emotions. He’ll blast his music at full volume and dance around the living room and his happy smile is contagious even when things have been rough for you. Don't mistake a calm Billy for docility or apathy. Just because he's sitting quietly for a change doesn't mean he isn't ready to jump up and greet you like a dog seeing its owner after work.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
Billy is reluctant to hug at first, he’s just not used to physical contact that doesn't cause some sort of pain or discomfort for him. His hugs are a little rough around the edges; he doesn't quite know when it's gone on for long enough to be awkward, what kind of strength to use that's not “i don't want to touch you” or “ i'm going to crush you”. His hugs are very warm and he always smells of aftershave or some fancy hair product. He does that thing that some folks do when hugging where he wiggles you both back and forth like a little dance, which I think is very cute. I will say after Neil is gone he starts to enjoy hugs more and more; he hugs as a greeting and as a goodbye and no matter who he’s sitting beside on the sofa it's almost a guarantee he’ll throw his arm around their shoulders at some point. There aren't many people in the Party who are taller or heavier than him, at least not until the starcourt incident. After that he has a habit of backpacking people when they aren't expecting it or doing that “if i jump, surely (name) will catch me” when people are already holding things. If Billy decides he wants your affection, he wants it then and there, no waiting for silly things like putting down hot coffee or perishable objects.
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
He says it super fast in a superficial sense. It's hard to unlearn some of his manipulative tactics to get what he wants from people. Dropping an L bomb or peppering it into his compliments is a good way to endear people to him. As for saying it and actually meaning it? That takes a long time and it's going to come out of left field. He’s most likely to mutter it while half asleep, dozing off beside you while watching a movie or something. He’s voted most likely to blurt it out will having sex and imediatly regretting it, too embarassed to explain himself.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
Billy is very jealous at times but i dont think it's out of malice or a need to control, at least not like Neil. He's afraid of having the rug pulled out from under him again, afraid to lose someone and something that is finally just his and his alone. He can come off controlling and manipulative but again, I don't think he means to be toxic. It comes from a place of fear and pointing it out to him is likely to make him mad in the immediate and then introspective when he calms down. He’s not stupid, he doesnt want to be like Neil and he certainly doesnt want to drive his partner or new friends  away. His need to control things is another anxiety response. It's not an excuse but talking with him I'm sure you can at least empathise with his reasoning, talk to him calmly when he's being jealous or paranoid about you or relationships with other people. He’s a work in progress, give him grace.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Pda is a no no for him but at home? He is never away from you. If he doesn't give you a kiss, even on the top of the head as he passes your chair, assume he is unwell. His kisses are always fleeting and a little brisk but they are many and often. He’ll kiss anywhere in range but cheeks, forehead and top of the head (if you are a lot smaller than him) are his favourite targets. He likes forehead kisses but also nose bumps/nose kisses. His hands are often sore after starcourt so he likes when you hold them to your warm face and pepper little soft kisses on them. He's not big on you kissing his scars. The wounds are still a little fresh in both the literal and figurative sense, but he enjoys kissing yours and he’s happy to let you give the birthmark on his shoulder a lil smooch.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
Post starcourt Billy is practically a second babysitter for the younger teens. Ok he can't drive them around like Steve can since the camaro is a scrap heap, but he’s got good advice and he’s a good listener. I think its fandom consensus that Billy gets the girls and steve takes the boys but they get joint custody of Will which i wholeheartedly agree with. He’s good at doing the girls hair, happy to let them paint his nails and listen to them bitch about their boyfriends. Ok 90% of his advice is “just throw the whole boyfriend out” or “ok who are we burying? lemme get my shovel” but he means well. He offers to teach the kids how to drive when they want their licence because he's a much better and far more patient teacher than Steve and after everything he’s been through he won't even blink when one of the kids spins out in the denny's parking lot.
I don't think he’d have as much patience for little kids, at least not until he’s old enough to want some of his own. He likes to tease and he likes it when he gets back as good as he gives from little sass pots like max and Erica.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
Billy is not a morning person, he only gets out of bed before noon on sufferance. Part of that is the fact he is usually so anxious he’s exhausted from the tension and nervous energy. The other part is just not wanting to start the day with Neil in the house. It's hard to unlearn so expect to see him shuffling around like a blanket wrapped zombie with his 3rd cup of coffee when he has to get up in the morning for work or therapy or something. If he has the choice he likes to lie late and go to bed late, even if he’s not sleeping just being able to spend uninterrupted time in bed is one of his favourite things, even better if he can spend it with you.
When he does finally get up it takes him an age to get ready. Post starcourt he’s let it slide a little for sheer lack of energy but normally he’s in the bathroom for at least 30 minutes, washing, shaving and getting his hair into the exact right shape. It's not just a vanity thing, he likes to look his best, he feels less anxious when he does. It's a small thing he can control about his life. He’s quite happy for you to help him with some of it if you really wanted to speed things along but you might find he goes even slower to spite you.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Billy loves the night. The dark can be scary but with enough lights and blankets there's few things that can make him feel more comfortable (except you maybe). There are no expectations at night, he can go out and party till dawn or he can sit in his pyjamas at 3am and eat cereal while watching goosebumps on vhs. The world is his oyster. There is another side to this that Billy refuses to admit most of the time: he suffers from nightmares, night terrors and even occasional sleep walking. It's got to the point that the first two are just annoying more than frightening but the sleepwalking still gets to him. He's never done anything more than sleep in the bathtub or pour entire jugs of milk out into the sink but he's terrified one day the mindflayer will come back and he’ll be sleepwalking through life. There's no amount of reassurance that will convince him otherwise, you really just need to get him to focus, breathe and come down by himself until the logic portion of his brain starts working again.
On a lighter note some of his favourite things to do are even better at night. He loves swimming in the moonlight, going for a drive somewhere quiet and watching the stars, maybe camping out and watching the sunrise. If the weather is bad he likes to open all the windows so the room is freezing, grab his thickest blanket and hunker down while listening to the rain or snow plink off the roof.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
Billy is very closed off, even to those closest to him. He’s learned over the years that having your heart on your sleeve is a good way to get hurt. He won't tell you things directly, maybe once in a blue moon you'll get something cryptic out of him about his past or certain triggers but that's it. I will say he’s not exactly hard to read; he doesn't have a great deal of emotional intelligence to understand what he's feeling a lot of the time (before therapy at least), so he’s not exactly skilled at hiding it. A reasonably intelligent person could probably piece things together without much prompting. Billy is always surprised when his partners show so much knowledge of what he's thinking or feeling without him telling them what's up. He just doesn't get it ??? how can you know him so well??? He loves you very much for it, helping him to put words to the feelings he can't.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
Billy has so much patience for many things for someone with a short fuse. He's worked on himself over the years to just know when to take a deep breath and unclench his jaw. People hassling the select group of people he's elected to give a shit about still brings out his mean streak, he's got no patience for people who shout and don't have inside voices  and he has had to be physically restrained by max el and will when they saw some parent make their kid cry at a restaurant because they spilled their drink. He spent the rest of the night complaining that they should have AT LEAST given the kid a sippy cup and WHO MAKES SUCH A BIG DEAL ABOUT SPILLED SODA IT'S LIKE $0.50. El nods along even though she's not 100% sure how much 50 cents is. Max is considering pouring salt in their drinks when they aren't looking  and Will is trying to be the adult and stop Billy from taking it a step further by slashing their tires.
Billy's anger to me is generally a slow burn. He can get pissy about things for days but it's little more than bluster that blows out like a birthday candle once it's addressed. When he does get really mad it's like a firecracker, a short sharp burst that's gone in an instant. It's not sustainable to be so angry for so long and frankly he’d rather spend his energy elsewhere these days.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
Billy gives the air of someone who couldn't give a shit if he tried but we all know it's just a show, he cares so much and feels things so deeply. He tries so hard to remember every little thing but it's just not possible because he has so many thoughts in his head already. Bless his cotton socks he does try, even if he can't be exactly he guesses and usually gets pretty close, making a mental note to try really really hard to remember for next time.
R = Remember (What is their favourite moment in your relationship?)
I think that all things considered, Billy remembers time at school with you most fondly. Things were terrible back then, even before shit hit the starcourt fan. But having you around always gave him a reason to smile, even if it was only for a moment. You weren't a couple or even had many classes together but seeing you by the lockers, maybe in the cafeteria at lunch, occasionally catching each other's eye. He hated how sickly sweet it all was but he couldn't deny there was something different, maybe even nice about exchanging glances with you, like you weren't just looking at him like another piece of ass and if either of you ever just talked he might actually enjoy the conversation . I guess that's why his yearbook says lunch was his favourite period.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
Billy is an incredibly protective person. It's an instinct ingrained into his bones to throw himself between the danger and the other person. He doesn't think, he just does it and it's only ever ended badly for him. Still he won't be dissuaded, he's a protector at heart and he always will be. With him around you have scary dog privileges. Him just being there is usually enough to protect you from most things but he is always ready to throw hands for your sake. He never starts the fights but he damn well finishes them.
Billy takes protection hard. He’s afraid if he admits he wants to be protected he’ll come across as weak and you won't want to be around him anymore. He sees weakness in himself in any form and just starts hearing neils voice telling him he's not good enough for anyone to even want to protect him. He tries his hardest to shrug it off but when he's already down or in a panic attack what he really needs is to just sit by you, hear your comforting voice, smell your scent and feel even just a hand on his shoulder to ground him in reality where none of those terrible things are true.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
As mentioned above he has the air of someone who doesn't give a shit about anything but it really isn't true. He is sort of a low maintenance kind of person when it comes to dates and presents and I imagine he’d expect you to be the same. He's not one for grandiose displays, little and often is the way to go with him. Get him something ‘just because’ or treat him  for no reason. When special dates do come up he makes some sort of effort, but he's usually so anxious it's hard for him to enjoy things. He can be sort of one note, he likes to stick to things he knows have worked in the past so if you want something different you’ll need to be the instigator .
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
Billy has a terrible habit of self deprecating when things go wrong. He burns something and suddenly he's “the worst cook ever” he forgets something on a day out and it's all “ shit, can't do anything right can i?” and honestly i would be getting a spray bottle and spritzing him like a cat every time he starts that shit. You could take it as a joke maybe the first few times but when you realise he’s serious about this and trying to get you to agree with him on top of it all? It's time for some serious intervention.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
Billy is vain but I think such things are a reflection of his mental state. When the mind flayer gets to him his curls and skin are the first thing to go. Appearance wise he looks a mess both inside and out. I think such things continue after the mindflayer. He’s too tired to care about anything and so his appearance slips. He looks thinner and drawn, skin grey and eyes dull. It doesn't bother him like he knows it should but he's just so freaking tired. I think the day you see him spray a little aquanet should be taken as a positive sign, he’s feeling more like himself and ready to start looking after himself again.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Billy is obviously a very damaged man. Damaged but not broken. Neil did a number of him and the mindflayer nearly finished him off, but they never broke his spirit. He doesn't know what it's like to be whole, the empty feeling of his mom leaving and neils lack of love is all he’s ever known. Maybe he’ll never feel whole but it's better to feel empty with someone than alone.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
I know Billy doesn't seem musical but he actually knows how to play a few different things. He can do a few tunes and scales on the piano, his mother used to play when Neil was out of the house. She got him a little ukulele when he was young but that got lost during a move. When he was a teen he got a guitar from school to practice over the summer and actually got pretty good. One day he and Neil got into an argument and the guitar was forfeit. He spent the rest of the year trying to pay back the school for lost property and hasn't played since.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)
Listen, Billy is kind of a bully, or at least he used to be. I can't excuse the things he's done even if I understand why he did them. But things are different now, Neil is gone, Billy is in therapy and he’s actually happy for the first time in a long while. Because of that, when he sees the person he used to be in others he can't stand it. Logically he understands that they're probably in some sort of pain too, a small part of him wants to help if he can. But then again some people are just assholes. Billy cannot stand bullies or people who make themselves feel big by making others feel small. He would have gone through Angela for a shortcut if he’d seen what she did to El. As I mentioned, he doesn't like to lose his temper anymore, he likes to give people a chance to back off , only if they're just being verbally rude, mind you.  But if things get physical, he's ready to throw hands especially where you or the kids are concerned.
Z = Zzz (What are their sleep habits?)
Billy starfishes while he sleeps but contrary to popular belief, he only snores softly not like Steven with his repeatedly broken nose who snores like a moose drowning in a tin bath. He likes to sleep in freezing cold rooms with all the windows open in a mountain of blankets and pillows but honestly, he's a sleepy guy and could fall asleep just about anywhere. He likes naps, particularly outside. In Cali he had a little hammock as a kid in his treehouse and he would doze off in there all the time listening to the ocean. When he sleeps normally he’s dead to the world but since starcourt he's an incredibly light sleeper. He could really benefit from one of those little white noise machines and he always sleeps better with someone else in the room or even just in the house making a little ambient noise from the other room.
