How do each of the Clans (and maybe even cross-clan relations) go about courting? I'm imagining some Thunderclanner being absolutely baffled by Riverclan's epic love-songs or sonnets, while Riverclan thinks Thunderclan is a bunch of hard-hearted jerks for giving their loved ones a piece of prey.

Courtship in the Clans is about as dynamic as it is for us, even within one Clan. Sometimes a pair of cats in the apprentice den just hit it off so well that there's not really an official beginning to their relationship (Goldenpaw and Tigerpaw); sometimes a pair don't recognize romantic chemistry in one another until well into warriorhood (Crookedjaw and Willowface); but oftentimes the couple will just be paired up for making the next generation (Frostfur and Lionface), though it's a coin-flip on whether or not the couple will grow a fondness for one another after they make babies. And yes, Thunderclan is absolutely baffled at Riverclan's love-poems, but even a Windclan cat could tell that Tigerclaw and Goldenflower love each other, even if their love is expressed more quietly than your average Thunderclan couple.

A short furred and long legged cat with blue eyes. Their coat is gray and her coat is speckled with darker gray. Ashfoot is small palled with a black nose and gray ears. Despite their short fur, Ashfoot has long ear tufts like a Lynx.

Ashfoot is kind, down to earth and intelligent. Being a Runner is their job but they’re been known to step in for cats for who need assistance. They’re one of WindClan’s best strategists and are well-known for leading hunts with a near perfect catch record (about a 92% success rate including leaf-bare hunts). 

Ashfoot and Deadfoot fell in love with each other as apprentices. They were completely in-sync with each other while they were practicing flush tactics. It’s said that they share a connection blessed by the Souls themselves and always know where the other is. And indeed, it always seemed that Ashfoot always knew where Deadfoot was underground including one legendary hunt when Deadfoot was forced to change tactics mid-run due to a collapsing tunnel. Ashfoot seemed to simply Know what happened and changed tactics as well. The end result was the two of them cornering a full grown porcupine and taking it by surprise.

Two of their kits were killed on the journey to escape ShadowClan’s invasion and they resents them intensely. Despite their rage towards ShadowClan, they’re trying their best to be fair and understanding towards the clan. They find it the easiest to forgive and be civil with the queens and elders of ShadowClan after hearing how many of their own kits were killed from Brokenstar’s treatment and the way they were banished from their own camp.

mudfur decides he's going to retire. he picks tadpolepaw as his new apprentice. this is not optional. mudfur is old and tadpolepaw is the only viable choice at the moment.

volepaw is apprenticed to emberdawn.

hawkkit dies, as does conekit.

leopardfur and rushtail have another litter, although rushtail agrees to raise them so leopardfur doesn't have to step down as deputy. their kits are bristlekit (the adored from round 1), juniperkit (grey and white tom with grey stripes and teal eyes), lightningkit (tom with teal eyes), pumicekit (dark grey tom with white freckles and hazel eyes), and slugkit (tom with amber eyes).

Description:

A scrawny blue ticked tabby tom with a more narrow face. Strong hindlegs and chocolate brown eyes. His fur is fluffy, tuft up in odd places like his scruff and tail, leaving him looking rather disheveled.

Personality:

Willowface often has his head in the clouds. He doesn’t seem to be paying attention and often looks surprised when being addressed seriously. He has also been shown to be a bit aloof and lazy, displaying a lack of desire to be part of the battlefield; but always doing as he’s told despite this. Seems to be rather cocky, thinks rather much of himself and frequently tries holding one-sided conversations with clanmates after guessing whatever their train of thought was at the moment. He has displayed at times a somewhat narcissistic side, considering himself “beautiful” and enjoys being the center of attention. It is a theory he works hard just to get praise. Willowface often acts out, and deserves to be treated rather childish at times. He cares deeply for his family, and seems to almost attempt to cling to his mother and brother.

Willowface finds it very easy to focus on things, and he’s able to keep his focus and emotions under control. He knows the difference between timing in when to have fun and when to be serious, but that doesn’t mean he follows it… He just knows when it’s okay and when it’s not. Willowface is level-headed and calm, but tends to get jumpy and anxious when things get out of control or don’t go as planned.

Though he is rather calm for a tom at his age, and can sit through a few lessons and pick up things easily. However, this also means he picks up bad habits quick too and needs to work on stopping them when he notices them - a tail sticking up when hunting, a tell of twitching whiskers when he lies…But habits are hard to snuff out at times. His claws are unsheathed and at the ready when he senses danger, but he also seems very hesitant to use them until the danger shows itself.

While the tom is curious about what lies beyond the world he’s shown, he seems hesitant to go out alone; however when it comes to being in the territory, he grows and learns to take charge - to an extent. Among the apprentices, he isn’t afraid to step forward and give a few orders - he does think of himself highly after all. However when confronted with those who have proven to him he needs to listen to them - either by rank or dominance - he doesn’t mind taking a step back and simply backing them up. He’s a team player, but he seems to have a small edginess on him that shows he thinks he can do a thing or two better.

While he loves to play around, once he gets in camp he works on his appearances. He sleeps rather still, though there’s a small rasp in his heavy breathing.

Whether it’s on purpose or just a second nature, the tom takes on a very brotherly role. Well, both in a good and bad way. The tom is always there to look out for members around his age, however he has a tendency to treat them younger than him, and look over them for awhile before turning to the other side of the coin and being annoying.

🍃 Rat Gaze: My greatest fear is losing my family. I care deeply for my tribe, don’t get me wrong; but I care for my family and I don’t know what I would do if I lost them. All I desire is for them to continue growing up happy - my kits. And since you’ve already asked my whom my favorite is, I suppose below Aster Petal is Elk Heart. A parent isn’t supposed to choose favorites but… when she took up her assessment, I knew that she would be my favorite….

🍃 Sun Leaf: Greatest fear? No way, what do I have to be afraid of? Any predator around here is just avoid or chase off, and any thing else is just the same. Danger’s avoidable usually… I can find a way out of it! I myself think since I was already even trained by Rat Gaze, I could be Runner one day. I like Young Bird and Night Screech equally - in that generally they dont seem to care for me for whatever reason. Jealous I bet, not to say we hate each other but I guess siblings are as far as our bonds go.

🍃 Night Screech: … I don’t … I don’t know what my biggest fear is…. I never really thought about it. I mean, the wolf attacks, bear attacks that happened a few moons ago… those were kind of scary but I don’t think thats my biggest fear…Or a greatest desire. I’m pretty… content right now. … I guess Sparrow’s my favorite family member. He’s my nephew and he’s too young to have done anything wrong so… He’s not annoying yet.

🎼 Hunting Bear: My greatest fear…? Everything and nothing. My older brother Cliff Rock once said that the strongest and smartest thing a cat who heads the Talon Guard can do is fear everything and nothing. Prepare for the worse. He was my favorite family member… and it was a sad day when he passed. My only desire is to live up to the potential he believed he had for me.

🎼 Hawk Flight: Hm… I don’t have a greatest fear I suppose. I mean, I think everyone fears the worst will befall their kits and kin, but I suppose since that’s so normal a fear… My only desire is for my kits to find happiness. And I don’t really have a favorite family member - that’s not very fair.

🎼 Alder Leaf: Oh, that’s kind of hard. I’m actually afraid of drowning… I had a pretty bad scare when I was a lot smaller and there was this weird pond on the territory that shows up during certain times of the seasons… I really dont want that to happen again. But! Spider Berry’s my favorite! She’s great! And I wanna be a great Prey-Hunter like Hawk Flight and Otter Chase!

🌊 Softpetal Frost: I believe my biggest fear is being useless to the tribe… I don’t want anyone to think I don’t have a good place here. It’s my only desire as well really… find my place happily. Right now my only living relatives are Sun Stone and her kits…. Which is fine I suppose; her kits are young yet, and since Lion Hearts passing I believe we are working on our relationship.

🐚 Dawnheart: My biggest fear is disappointing my clan. I’m trying to learn what I can from Crowstar, but he seems to make some members of the clans uneasy and … I don’t want to do that… So I guess that’s my desire and fear? … I really like all of my family, so I think I’ll leave that one alone.

🐚 Pigeonpaw: Lilypaw’s my favorite! She’s brave, and smart! I mean, I like my other siblings I guess, but Lilypaw gets me the most! … I think I’m just afraid of those coyotes. Mom says they’re gone now, but…. well…. it was pretty bad. I’m going to be a strong warrior like my dad was to help keep the clan safe if it ever happens again!

🗻Harrierflight: I’ve seen enough to know that my biggest fear lies in the balance of my clans safety. I only desire to make sure we don’t have to face so many losses again… And I don’t have a favorite kit; and I’d never say a kit or mate are more important the one another…

🗻 Willowface: What, the rogue thing wasn’t bad enough for you? Can there be a greater fear dealing with all of that? My desire is just staying alive, it’s been a weird season…. And I have too many siblings to pick a favorite, that would be pretty wrong.

🌌 Binx: We don’t need more bad things happening around here, so why don’t you take that stupid question elsewhere? The Moon Court doesn’t have fear. And my desires are already met. I’m alive, my kits are alive - all of them - and I have my mate. That’s all that matters.

🌌 Canary: I just dont want my kits to die or stay in danger… They’re special here, no ones going to kill them here so I’m okay with that. I wish Pine were here though… But at least I have Snickers.

In the seer au, with Jaypaw going to Windclan and working with Leafpool, would that lead to trouble later on if cats find out about him being Leaf/Crow's kit? Because seers aren't supposed to be in their families clan?

i don't want to say too much about it, lest i show my cards for the next few fics, but uh. okay i'm going to talk about the end of "it's been promised to another" which, if you're not up to date with stoalg, well (a) spoilers but (b) the end of ibpta has discussion both of death/exile and abortion.

anyway so saying the problem here is seers aren't supposed to be in their family's clan is like saying, "yellowstone just erupted, and also there's a power outage."

i mean yeah those two things Sure Are problems, but one of them makes the other basically irrelevant.

as far as the cats are concerned, jaypaw isn't related to crowfeather and leafpool. (short of like. he couldn't have kits with a half sibling that would be Bad.) but squilf adopted leafpool's kits, leafpool's kinship ties are broken, that makes them squilf's kits.

so Even If there wasn't a bigger problem, the being leaf's kit thing wouldn't be an issue.

she didn't even nurse them for longer than like. a quarter moon?

anyway. crowfeather is definitely irrelevant here. he didn't raise them in the Slightest, he's not their dad.

(they have no father, they have two moms. squilf and mothwing. mothwing isn't supposed to be a parent but uh. well. she Loves Them a Lot a Lot a Lot.)

but yeah, nominally at least, the cats wouldn't hold jaypaw's bio parentage against him in any way.

being in windclan is definitely highly sus for him, because they take this stuff The Most seriously, but they also. so as a reminder, the status at the end of iaffl is

mothwing and flamepaw in thunderclan

spottedleaf and kestrelpaw in riverclan

cinderpelt and willowpaw in shadowclan

leafpool and jaypaw in windclan

(some of them may have their full names but i'm being quick.)

and so there's really no possible solution to the problem? like. okay, so...jaypaw and willowpaw are a Potential swap, since both flamepaw and kestrelpaw results in someone returning to their birth clan, but shadowclan wouldn't want to give her up because she knows all the Clan Specific Deal. (jaypaw would know stuff for windclan, but significantly less.)

anyway, you see the difference between ideals and politics here. ideally there wouldn't be a problem, but the clans would not like it.

but of course! leafpool is a seer. and so figuring out What to Do about Her is way much very much the bigger problem.

at the end of ibpta, she basically has three choices: die, be exiled, or abort her kits. she chooses option four: try to avoid her other choices.

like, the clans are uh, very much Not Pro Choice. okay general reminder: my warriors worldbuilding does not reflect my views about the world. i am not trying to build a good world, i am trying to build an interesting one.

anyway.

when your infant mortality rate is ca. 50%, every kit's life is precious. killing kits (including unborn ones) is a crime punishable by Instant Death.

leafpool is a seer so who fucking knows what would happen, because harming a seer is punishable by anything from a Big Time Long Term punishment to Exile to Death. highly dependent on the level of harm (accident, accident but serious, any level of intentional harm), but like. cats know who the seers are. it's important to know before you bring an apprentice to battle.

god it's been Ages since i rambled about stolag's world building. mothwing's piece is like. the biggest chance to expand on that and it's through such a low-battle time it doesn't come up. why must i be like this.

so yeah so! who knows what would happen bc by that logic you get: leafpool kills kits → leafpool must be killed → leafpool either has to kill herself or whoever kills her must be killed

(you might be saying, "wouldn't a murderer for punishment purposes get immunity?" to which i say, "this is not that type of world. the rules about seers trump every other rule. even where it doesn't make sense.")

anyway, obviously that's not super relevant because that doesn't happen.

if leafpool was discovered when she was pregnant or nursing, the kits would have been given to a windclan queen. they may or may not be told about their birth, but the other clans certainly wouldn't.

leafpool would be exiled or killed. it's not super clear what would happen, but either way, she would lose everything.

kestrelpaw is the oldest apprentice, i believe, but willowpaw would be chosen for obvious reasons. windclan is probably best equipt to deal with this Particular situation, because windclan elders share the burden of knowing the whole hymn. so willowpaw would have people to teach her everything she needs to know.

willowpaw would receive her full name after learning the full hymn, and windclan would have to trust that the stars would guide her to oversee the correct rites. (singing days, fasts, and approving names of kits.)

(and who would name her? she would be instructed to pray on it and starclan would give her a name. not sure what i would name her. windclan doesn't have any sense of passing names on, so while if this were in thunderclan or shadowclan she would be named willowface, willowbark, or willowleaf with some level of certainity, there's no such convention.

i might name her willowshine or willowlight.

which might give away that her name isn't necessarily going to be willowshine in stolag.

but i digress.)

anyway! that makes willow the youngest medicine cat, and cinderpelt the oldest (without an apprentice). so shadowclan jaypaw instead.

anyway! yeah the fact that she's his mother is certainly a problem, but it's almost insignificant to the greater problem that a seer had kits.

a scuffed knee compared to a broken femur, if you will.

so yeah, there'd definitely be a problem, it just wouldn't have much to do with the family relationship. if, say, he was a squirrelcrow kit, windclan would be a-okay with him staying, because crowfeather isn't his father in any meaningful sense.

Personality:

Carpblossom is a straightforward and aloof individual who always speaks bluntly from their mind and what she thinks about others.

Carpblossom grew into a highly mature and responsible individual who could divide her attention between duties without letting one intervene with the other. This also means that Carpblossom knows how to lead and look after others, keeping them safe and at ease if they don't feel so. They have strong morals, goals, and principles and is willing to oppose their friends to defend them from decisions they consider rash.

They are noticeably calm and collected, being able to stay levelheaded and focused even during the most stressful situations.
