“Willow” Screening + Q & A Discussion Saturday, October 22nd @ 4-6pm Nuyorican Poets Cafe  236 East 3rd St, New York, NY 10009   Tickets $10 advance | $15 at the door
Join NY Emmy Award-winning producer and creator of “Willow,” Paul A. Notice II, for a Q & A discussion about their newest iteration of “Willow,” a project that began as a play in 2012.
-----
SYNOPSIS After legalizing “Peer Consumption” in a vampiric world; near-utopian governance is quickly overshadowed by a truly predatory housing market. Desperate to pay rent, or risk being eaten alive, Willow, a brooding elected observer of alt-worlds & timelines, searches for solutions.
----- ABOUT In World #336, a successful 1811 German Coast Slave Revolt leads to a multi-ethnic near-utopia, outlawing White Supremacy and most systemic instruments it uses. However, in this reality, consuming others grants one electrical power, regenerative healing, and the memories of their victim - a metaphor that viscerally reveals capitalism’s inherent violence, and toxic allure.
Though a standalone short film, “Willow,” also lays the groundwork for an Afrofuturist TV series that wields the non-linear nature of time & alt world travel as a vehicle to examine the ways in which sociopolitical events of the past can impact the present and future.
Learn more at: https://thenoticeblog.com/willow ------- Support our project w/ a tax-deductible contribution at: https://donorbox.org/willowhorror ------- SPECIAL THANKS  This project is made possible, in part, with funds from the Media Arts Assistance Fund, a regrant partnership of NYSCA and Wave Farm, with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. ----
All Sales go toward "The Willow Project," a program of the Notice Foundation, which produces films that not only centers BIPOC, Queer, and Femme narratives, but employs people from those communities to create them as well.

A Moment of Gratitude | "Willow" BTS
I'm going to practice some gratitude. Before we began producing the TV show, "Willow: House of Griots," there was "Willow: State of Emergency." It's a short film Suswana and Pierre helped me produced back in November 2020.
I haven't done too well posting about this, but this short film picked up a good number of accolades over the past few years. It hardly dawned on me, until editing this poster.
Sometimes, we're so focused on the next goal - we forget to celebrate the small victories. So, this post is born out of celebration. I've revised the script, and film countless times since we shot the first scene in 2020. It's cathartic to know that work isn't going unseen.
Willow is now playing at the 2023 New York Lift-Off Film Festival! Watch it online in the “Trendsetters Shorts” category (it’s #160) from now until July 31st!
- Paul N.

Anyway, please remember that our "Willow: House of Griots" fundraiser is still LIVE! Please give whatever you can - every bit helps! www.thenoticeblog.com/willow
"Willow: House of Griots" is an Afrofuturist multiverse TV show that follows an elected alt-world observer, as she ascends to power in an Afrocentric vampiric world on the verge of collapse.

Thank you to all of our "Willow" Supporters!
Let's take the time out for gratitude: Thanks to our supporters' contributions over the last three years, we were able to produce "Willow: State of Emergency,” which premiered at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, won the Best Short Film Award at Chicago's Black Film Fest, and screened on Juneteenth weekend at the Black-Owned Stuart Cinema Theater.
That continued support also enabled us to develop a TV series “Willow: House of Griots” that expands upon the film, and to host a stage reading of episodes 1-4 at Here Performing Arts Center.
And now, as we're fundraising to produce the one-hour pilot episode of "House of Griots," I can't help but feel incredibly grateful.
From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. This has been a tremendous journey, and I'm ecstatic to not only be at the helm of a talented and dedicated production team, but to also be a part of a community of supporters of the work itself.
If you'd like to join our community of supporters, follow the link in the photo, or just come to our inaugural Afrofuturist Vampire Dance Party, Dec 8th, 8:30pm at First Live (219 Central Ave., BK).
More announcements coming soon!
- Paul A. Notice II
Side note: "Willow" is part of the "Willow" program of The Notice Foundation, which is meant to not only create narrative fiction from the perspective of Black, Indigenous, POC, Womanist, and Queer perspectives; but to employ professionals from our communities in making them. The Invitation
Nearly every day this week, I've whisked by the library to print out the free 20 pages offered for each day. Then I'd take the flyers I've cut from them, visit a new coffee shop in the neighborhood, and leave them amongst the others.
I've always seen flyers like this: black & white, hand cut, no gloss. These are moments of homegrown "3rd Places," offering an invitation to YOU. Whoever you are.
I've grown a fondness for it. Unlearned the capitalist urge for dressings that bleed my pocket. And focus on what really matters. Us. Community.
So, when the time came to spread the word about our fundraiser party for the "Willow: House of Griots" TV series, I found myself here: extending my own personal invitation to a 3rd Place. For the community steadily growing around this show, and the ideas it espouses.
Come through. Join our community, and help us get our stories out there.

We're Fundraising! Help us Make "Willow: House of Griots"
Our fundraiser for filming the “Willow: House of Griots” pilot is now LIVE! Our minimum goal is $30k before September 🙏🏿🖤🤞🏿
Please give anything you can to help make this dream a reality! Support Us with a tax-deductible contribution here: donorbox.org/willowhorror
“Willow: House of Griots” is an Afrofuturist multiverse series that follows an elected alt-world observer, known as a Griot, as she ascends to power in a vampiric world on the verge of collapse.
It’s set in an alternate world, called Moja One, where the 1811 German Coast Slave Revolt, leads to an entirely different version of America: One led by primarily Black and Indigenous people.
This is a project I began over ten years ago, originally as a stage play. It went up on its feet at New York Theater Workshop, with Mosaic Theater’s Reg Douglas as the director. Ten years and hundreds of rewrites later, I teamed up with producers Suswana Chowdhury, and Pierre Jean Gonzales. We shot the first scenes of our short film: “State of Emergency” in the Fall of 2020.
youtube
Two years and nearly a hundred revisions later, we premiered the short film at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe on October, 22nd, 2022. That was Followed by a live stage reading of Episodes 1-4 on June 2nd 2023, and another short film screening of the director’s cut on Sunday, June, 18th, 2023 at the Black-owned Stuart Cinema. While the short film will be available for sale on Amazon later this year.
We need your help NOW.
Right now, we are fundraising to film our upcoming 1-hour pilot episode “Willow: House of Griots” TV series. We’re looking to raise at least $30,000 by September.
So, no matter how you give, no matter the amount, every contribution is an IMMENSE help to this production.
Please make a contribution, no matter the size, here. And let’s make this dream a reality!

Willow: House of Griots | "...We're Finally Here."
Ten years ago, when I was writing the original stage play, in which the series is based; I could only dream of the possibility of this moment. But here we are. Realizing the first stages of our TV show, “Willow: House of Griots.” And I’m so very thankful for the people who’ve joined me on this journey.  After the 1st rehearsal, I remember pacing back and forth in a basketball court at midnight, talking to my lil brother on the phone about how I knew this was a turning point for me and this project.
I had worked with casts before, I had written & directed plays (and films) before. Nevertheless, this was the culmination of years of experience - of triumphs and hard-taught lessons. My writing matured, evolved - and now with this cast’s insight and notes: it’s flourishing.
We have arrived.
By showtime, my eyes were already watering at merely saying the words out loud: “I DREAMT of being here over a decade ago…”
“Here” wasn’t just the name of the venue. It was how I arrived, and who I arrived with.
“Here” was smarter, with a more nuanced understanding on how the world works, and how to work with different people. “Here” was listening and humbling oneself, adapting and trying again. “Here” was working with friends and loved ones to make something truly meaningful and worth telling.
And we’re finally “here.”
I have plans for this series. Stories to tell, that I wished I’ve seen when I was young. And this is just the beginning.
Over the next two years, my goal is to turn what we performed that Friday night, into the first four episodes of “Willow: House of Griots,” to be self-released on Amazon. I have plans for this series. Stories to tell, that I wished I’ve seen when I was young. And this is just the beginning.
You can catch the short film version coming up on Sunday, June 18th @6pm at Stuart Cinema.
Or you can support us by making a tax-deductible contribution to: donorbox.org/willowhorror
