Black-legged rooster from Penedès (gall negre del Penedès) is a species from Penedès (Catalonia) very appreciated for its deep taste and firm meat, characteristics it develops by being raised in freedom and with a diet based on grain.
Photo from the recipe blog La cuina violeta by Nani Nolla. You can find this recipe and more information there (in Catalan).

So this series set in Sweden referenced a "gateau with layers of mayonnaise" which sent me on an internet search to find the
✨Smörgåstårta✨
(I vaguely sense that I have seen a pitiful version of this at Church Lady Buffets™ in my youth)
I get how a badly made one would very much qualify as Shitty Funeral Dinner Food as suggested in the book, but one of these lovely artisan-made pieces of art with cream cheese and egg and veggies looks quite tasty and makes me wish for a Swedish bakery next door. 😋

Ward off winter's chill with a bubbling hot pot of beef and vegetables in a sweet and savory broth (via Sukiyaki Is One-Pot Comfort, Japanese-Style)
I am watching the weather reports for various parts of the USA and the winter in some states is really brutal.  You hope the homes don't have any power outages.  Because when the weather outside is frightful, you are so happy to be inside where it is wam and delightful and you're probably enjoying a hearty bowl of delicious sukiyaki!
“Sukiyaki’s origins and rise in popularity are tightly tied to the Westernization of Japan.
For 1,200 years of the country’s history, eating meat was taboo—in part due to the influence of Buddhist principles, after Buddhism’s arrival from Korea in the sixth century, and in part due to limited land for raising livestock. A series of emperor-decreed bans protected various animals from being consumed. Beef was allowed in special instances, such as for ceremonies or when used as medicine, but in most cases was widely forbidden.
The popularity of this beef-centric dish thus mirrored one of the most significant turning points in Japanese culture—including its cuisine.”
