Hello @wolfgirlj I have a question regarding yl Jon. What was his upbringing like, was it like year one with a horrible grandma or like 52s with a horrible dad? Either way I feel sorry for all the cranes and their abusive pasts. I've had my own experiences, which is why I'm asking out of curiosity.
Since this was @ me, I’ll answer it like a ‘headcanon request’ rather than from YL himself. If you wanted a more direct YL response, I could get to that, but it would take a lot longer. (Though it might be a bit unneeded with just how much information I could give more directly, and sooner now.)
I also have a lot of projects and some non-blog (irl) stuff going on at the moment, so longer being... weeks...
But I have quite a few small loosely put together ideas on his possible upbringing, all which are really just relevant to “blog canon.” I’m going to apologize in advance if this gets a little excessive or leans into being unrelated. My brain is kinda scrambled...
YL Jon did not have it nearly as badly as Year One or New52. Their childhoods were arguably the worst all around out of all the Jons. Practically all of them had horrid school/social lives, but not all had the worst home lives.
YL grew up in a single parent household as an only child. His father left his mother before he was born. Having not married, he had less of an anchor to care for the two.
Through monetary complications and living far from any of her own family, his mother was left to look after him.
She was not a bad parent per se, taking what she was given and making do. But being the sole provider, she was not at good odds, and was taken out of the house by work most of her days.
Young YL Jonathan’s more direct issues were at school. He was a scrawny, quiet child, always reading, always daydreaming, an adequate target for larger children, those with a loud enough personality to form groups, giving more fuel for harassment.
His appearance, odd nature, and status as an illegitimate child were all sources of ridicule by these “cliques.” One class happened to have been doing a project involving Sleepy Hollow, hence the additional nickname of “Ichabod.” It kickstarted his journey to becoming Scarecrow.
Young YL Jonathan, being the man of the house, learned a lot in terms of machinery and general appliances. He would fix piping in the house as best he could to save costs on hiring a plumber. He eventually became rather good at this, moving toward electrical wiring and any other odds and ends in the house he could with limited, but growing skill. This intrigue in mastering the functions of appliances bled into his sprouting love for chemistry as he went through high school.
When very young, Jonathan asked about his father, knowing only his name and what little else his mother told him. He grew to loathe the man, realizing that a lot of his troubles were caused by him. Of course, he loathed his bullies more, and took the most of his rage on them disguised as a scarecrow, turning the frail image against them.
He eventually moved out of his home, and went to college in the neighboring city of Gotham, having what else is known of his comic canon story. In his journey of changing mentally, emotionally, and even physically, he grew to disregard his father, whatever little he knew of the man, the hatred was traded with disinterest. Whoever he was had no bearing on his life.
As for his mother... On occasion, during heists and experiments, he’ll anonymously send money back to her, hoping she doesn’t read the news to find what he has become. Somewhere in his sad and black heart, he still loves her.
Relating to the blog itself, this is all information he refuses to tell the others. Out of them all, he is one of the hardest to “figure out,” but with his façade of a simple, boisterous personality, he intentionally lends little to arouse the curiosity of his fellow Scarecrows. So far, it has been deemed a success, as they suspect very little of him past his outward appearance.

Cordy honestly, love that we stole's obvious supremacy aside, 90% of the reason why it scientifically isn't their song is because, despite her being a hilarious and sweet seeming human, I literally cannot stand the noise that comes out of her mouth and the songs she makes with it, because what the FUCK does setting fire to the rain mean, Adele, you can't set fire to rain. rain is water that falls from the sky, it's inflammable she's so god damn stupid for that

(Like the ask says, the idea of different versions of Scarecrow hanging out was crafted and popularized by @wolfgirlj)
Let me preface this answer by saying A) I apologize in advanced for the long answer, B) I refer to my Jon as Mr. Keeny for the sake of differentiating, and C) Mr. Keeny is an amalgam of most canon 'Crows with- some of my own ideas- thus there would be plenty of confusion upon first contact.
Nolanverse gives Mr. Keeny the most pause. Why does this one look like him, but short and scar free? How come he has normal ears? Does he even need those glasses? Once he gets over the initial confusion and learns of his origin, Mr. Keeny all but dismisses Nolancrow. If he’s young and foolish enough to not only work for someone, but to work for Al Ghul of all people, he’s no serious threat. If anything, he’s as obnoxious as Edward, his apparent sass doing him no favors. It only reaffirms his foolishness when he tries to talk so flippantly to Mr. Keeny. The boy should best watch his quick tongue and hold it lest he receive a scar of his own.
BTAS also doesn’t terribly worry Mr. Keeny- at least, not at first. His grandiose and apparent god complex greatly irk Mr. Keeny, drawing the semi conscious conclusion of overconfidence and compensation. Like Nolanverse, he can’t help but wonder at the physical similarity (the ears, in this case), and why he’s so short, not just compared to the rest of them. He grows increasingly wary as he observes BTAS more, finding him especially treacherous, albeit in a more obnoxious than dangerous manner. Mr. Keeny keeps a close eye on him, not allowing him to get close enough to play some kind of joke on him. BTAS would be wise not to try anything. Mr. Keeny does not take kindly to being the butt of a joke.
YL’s lack of a filter annoys Mr. Keeny perhaps more than BTAS’ sense of self importance. Somehow more childish than the flippant Nolanverse, the apparent youngest of them all, YL is constantly walking a thin line with Mr. Keeny, who’s liable to punch him at any moment. Especially if he asks for his fear toxin notes or tries to touch him again. Even worse are his swagger and aforementioned audacious disregard for personal boundaries. The gaudy outfit he walks around in does nothing to sway this displeasure, much less the agonizingly bright light he wields that nearly blinds Mr. Keeny every time. Perhaps YL’s only saving grace is his sociability, meaning he bothers the others just as much if not more.
Salecrow, while fascinating from a psychological standpoint, worries Mr. Keeny. He’s unpredictable, cryptic, and one of the most difficult to read amongst them. Further concerning is his similarity to the descriptions others have made of Mr. Keeny’s behaviour during his Scarecrow “episodes.” Furthermore, Salecrow doesn’t seem to be as wary of him as he would like, far too willing to get up close and invade his- admittedly oversized- personal bubble. Mr. Keeny makes it a point to avoid conversing with Salecrow as much as possible, more inclined to observe him from a more comfortable distance.
Mr. Keeny immediately doesn’t like New52. More so than his initial dislike for everyone. He does not like him. Could he set aside his pride and habit of hiding such a feeling for safety, he would say he fears New52. Or, rather, the man he reminds Mr. Keeny of. He’s too similar to his Gerald, too similar to the men that worked for his father and used Mr. Keeny as their plaything whether or not Gerald was watching. Not that the old bastard cared. Lord knows Gerald himself toyed with Mr. Keeny as a teen just as much, threatening to sell his son more than once. Not to mention the experimentation and associating him in his crimes. Needless to say Mr. Keeny avoids New52 as much as possible, and refuses to speak to him- save for a few pointed, heavy threats. Especially when he finds out his deal.
New Year’s Evil is also immediately disliked, but not in such a visceral, fearful way. Frankly, he just annoys Mr. Keeny. Like a whining brat that doesn’t know when to give up, that refuses to see that his ongoing temper tantrum has accomplished nothing but to make him out for a fool. Though he finds it curious New Year’s also has a history with one Miss Albright, granted not to the extent nor calibre as himself, Mr. Keeny is still disheartened to find he was no kinder to her than he had been. At least New Year’s didn’t have a relationship with her as well.
One of the least he dislikes is Masters of Fear, if only because he doesn’t try to interact at all. Which is perfectly fine with him. On the few instances they speak, Mr. Keeny has found him almost tolerable, rather intelligent and knowledgeable. The sesquipedalian nature of his speech is somewhat entertaining, if only because it makes MoF sound ridiculous. Even still, Mr. Keeny can always appreciate another book lover, though he finds it a little suspect that they both have such a strong love for Sleepy Hollow, and for similar reasons. He’s not too proud to admit the other’s fighting style is impressive, however, albeit after a few pointers. He is somewhat envious of the other’s contortionist capabilities, Mr. Keeny’s arthritis limiting his own most days.
He finds AK is also tolerable, and at least mildly entertaining to discuss with. Though it’s interesting that not only it’s another of himself that discovered Batman’s identity, but that his is also Bruce Wayne, Mr. Keeny will never allow that piece of his knowledge to become public in any way. Even amongst individuals from alternate universes, who have nothing to gain from learning, thus no desire to learn his Batman’s identity. His sense of self preservation will not allow it. He’d much rather compare notes and bitch about their respective Edwards, if not learn about this alternate Arkham’s interior and operations.
Mr. Keeny is at least somewhat empathetic towards Scarebeast. Heaven forbid only one of them be turned into an abomination after being forced into an employ he did not want and emotionally manipulated by yet another lying sweetheart. Part of Mr. Keeny hopes the transformation isn’t as taxing and godawfully painful for the other as it is for him, though most of him is careful around the beast, more than aware of what he is capable of. The last thing anyone needs is two angry Scarebeasts fighting. Or two Scarebeasts in general. While this other Scarebeast seems to be mostly in control of himself, Mr. Keeny can’t say the same for himself. Never mind the fact Mr. Keeny-beast is equally likely to snuggle up to the other as to attack, depending on the initial interaction.
Year One is, perhaps, the closest to tolerable for interacting with, as far as Mr. Keeny is concerned. He does not push for conversation, he’s well spoken, he’s engaging without showing off- He even minds his manners, a welcome surprise considering the majority of the company Mr. Keeny is usually forced to take. He might even be enjoyable to speak with. Mr. Keeny is still wary nevertheless. He’s understandably outraged when Year One claims to have such a similar upbringing as he, down to the tyrannical great grandmother and aviary turned chapel, before remembering they’re supposedly “alternate selves” and apologizing, though stiffly. Especially when he finds Year One did not know his great grandfather, among other inconsistencies with his own childhood. Nevertheless, Mr. Keeny wants to kick Year One’s ass the least.
All in all, Mr. Keeny is an intrinsically suspicious man. He feels he cannot trust himself, and damn well doesn’t trust any of his other selves. While intrigued by the multidimensional nature of such introductions, and the subsequent implications, he’s distressed by sharing at least one similarity with each of them, though he expertly disguises this as general disdain. So long as New52 keeps well away from him, he can handle putting up with the others. Not that he won’t still bitch about it, of course.

jim is a good guy, and he's been looking forward to YL for a long time. if his review is as bad as you say, it must be really disappointing. you should look him up on youtube, he does a series of videos called the jimquisition- give yourself a bit of an idea what kind of guy he is and where his opinions fall compared to yours? tbh im surprised you arent a fan of his already
hm. interesting.
most of what his review says are problems are things other reviews commented on, but didn’t put nearly as much emphasis on, which is part of why it’s fishy. like it feels overly negative, i guess? like he’s purposefully trying to be negative just for the sake of it.
which worries me because of the jo//ntr///on thing which cause a whole lot of people to be negative about the game for the sake of it. but he’s apparently anti-jon from the little digging i’ve done so that can’t be it.
comparing his review to other, more middling reviews is helpful because they do talk about some of the same issues, but that there’s still something enjoyable to be found in the game, just that the issues were numerous. so i dunno.
i mean i’m gonna play the game regardless; my brother pre-ordered it for me for christmas so it’s not like i’m out the money.

My interest in YL has been kinda waning, especially after they pulled jon, but i really hope it turns out well and does good, i have faith in rare and i wanna see them get back into video games. Heres hoping for the best!
There's been a boatload of footage from the final version over the past two months that look phenomenal. Game’s come a long way even from the trailers from 2016.
I don't care about the JonTron drama; while I'm sick of everything having to be about social justice these days, his removal from the game pretty much means nothing to me. I was never a fan of him, not even back when he was basically unanimously adored.
Selfish as it sounds, my biggest gripe about the whole ordeal is that I’m going to have to slog through a billion complaint videos by JonTron fans on Youtube when I’m looking for actual news about the game for the foreseeable future. l’D

Daeth rhyw ddeugain i Gaffi Emlyn, Tan-y-groes, i ddathlu Gŵyl y Mabsant a mwynhau eisteddfod flynyddol y Gymdeithas. Ar ôl cawl a phwdin cyflwynodd Llywydd y Gymdeithas, Robyn Tomos y beirniad, y Prifardd Aneirin Karadog o Gwm Gwendraeth. Traddododd Aneirin ei feirniadaeth ar un ar bymtheg o gystadlaethau. Am yr ail flwyddyn roedd pob cystadleuaeth yn agored nid yn unig i aelodau’r gymdeithas ond i bawb ac am y tro cyntaf hysbysebwyd y tasgau mor eang â phosibl. Manteisiodd sawl llenor o weddill Cymru a thu hwnt ar y cyfle i gystadlu ac felly fe dyfodd nifer y cynigion yn sylweddol, i gyfanswm o ymhell dros gant, mwy na thebyg am y tro cyntaf yn hanes hir y digwyddiad hwn.
Ar gyfer y brif gystadleuaeth, y Wobr Goffa Pat Neill, roedd Roni Roberts, y grefftwraig o Felin-wynt, wedi llunio unwaith yn rhagor gadair fach hardd allan o un darn o bren i’r enillydd ei chadw. Denwyd wyth cynnig am y gadair ac aeth Morgan Owen (Merthyr) i’r brig am gerdd arbennig yn y wers rydd. Enillodd sawl cystadleuydd o bell wobrau hefyd ond cynhaliwyd traddodiad llenyddol cryf y Gymdeithas gan Philippa Gibson (Pontgarreg), Jon Meirion Jones (Llangrannog), Terwyn Tomos (Llandudoch) a Siân Wyn Siencyn (Talgarreg). Roedd yn drist nad oedd Dai Rees Davies, a fu farw adeg y Nadolig llynedd, yn ein plith ac yntau’n aelod ffyddlon o’r gymdeithas ac yn gystadleuydd toreithiog a thra llwyddiannus yn ein heisteddfodau.
Am ei erthygl a fyddai’n addas i bapur bro enillodd Jon blât hyfryd a hwnnw wedi’i lunio i ddathlu hanner canmlwyddiant y Gambo. Roedd Philippa yn fuddugol ar nid llai na thair tasg, yr englyn (fel llynedd), y cywydd a’r drydargerdd (sef cerdd ar ffurf neges Twitter). Aeth telyneg o waith Terwyn i’r brig hefyd a hithau yn ennill drosto hefyd y wobr am y gerdd orau drwyddi draw. Enillodd Siân y wobr gyfatebol am y darn orau o ryddiaith.
Daeth Robyn Tomos â’r noson i’w therfyn trwy ddiolch i Aneirin, i’r cystadleuwyr, i’r Caffi ac i’r gynulleidfa am ei gwneud hi’n achlysur difyr dros ben.
