Zora Pearl is here!

Specifically from a botw au created on the Hermbi discord by @lunarblazes, @nonbinary-enderman, and @lioncrown! Pearl is Mipha in the au :D

I decided to base her off a Kitefin Shark, mainly because they glow. They also have a really shapey tail and I like that. Her Champion's garb is kind of styled in a way mimicking her hooded jacket that normal Pearl usually has. All her jewelry is pretty much the same as Mipha's as well except most of the gems were replaced by pearls, some parts were remade into crescent moons, and some designs were turned upside down lol

She also has two tridents because I think she would totally have two tridents

Possessive Sidon with S/O Headcanons

Sidon is a rather dignified Zora, everything about him resonates pride. He is very prideful of his family, his people, Zora's Domain, and ESPECIALLY of you. You are his world!

Sidon talks about you fairly often. He can't help himself from talking about his lovely partner! He tells everybody just how amazing you are and how lucky he is to have you. "Did I forget to mention how amazing my (wife/husband/partner) is?!" He would exclaim to anyone who ventures into Zora's Domain, if the topic came up.

In a way, him exclaiming his love for you to others is usually his way of telling them that you're taken by him. He'll even be sure to emphasize words like "partner, lover, darling" etc.

He often likes to show public displays of affection as well. He's big on holding hands, or giving you forehead kisses, or holding you close to him.

If you both have to make a public appearance, he usually prefers that you stay by his side. He doesn't necessarily mind you talking to others, however he will always take quick glances in your direction. Making sure that no one is overstepping your boundaries or personal space.

If you're out of sight from him, he'll send his avatar to stand by your side.

If he notices anyone overstepping these boundaries or starting to act a little too personal with you, he will immediately walk over to stand by your side. He will hold your hand and shoot the individual an intimidating glare.

This tactic usually works. However, on occasions when it doesn't, some kind of emotion physically arises from him like an instinct. He will pull you close to his body and will snarl at the individual showing his shark-like teeth.

Afterwards, if he still is feeling unsatisfied after the person had fled away, he will pull you to a private location. He starts acting animalistic and marks your neck with a few love bites here and there. These bites are not enough to break the skin or cause you much physical pain, however they definitely leave marks. This is his way of making it known that you "belong to him and no one else."

Not too long after, he will apologise for his possessive actions and make sure you're alright. To the Zora, biting their partner's shoulder and/ or neck to mark them is a common behaviour.

If this makes you uncomfortable, he will choose to alternatively get custom Zora jewelry just for you. This way you get something to wear that shows his love for you. It's also a physical way for people to see he's "claimed" you.

it’s not that he’s scared of these new found feelings, he’s just new to the concept of actually liking someone as opposed to being the object of affection like he is to so many others

once he gets past figuring things out and really starts having it hard for his crush, he’s back to his extravagant self

will absolutely boast about great qualities he sees in them, not just in private but to others as well

was already a huge supporter to begin with, but becomes even more so and always finds ways to be there for his crush

absolutely takes no shit from others talking about his crush behind their back

overall Sidon’s way of flirting or letting his feelings be known to his crush is grand action and devotion; he wants them to know how much they mean to him and how much he’s willing to do for them should they except him

Revali:

he’s just not used to the idea of being that fond of someone, that someone could hold such a power over him to make his heart feel like it’s falling from the sky by just walking into the same vicinity

once he gets past his complicated feelings about the ordeal, Revali starts to accept the ideas of why he developed feelings for this person and it turns into honorable admiration

he isn’t going to just fall for anyone of course

the Rito takes note in impressionable skills his crush possesses, such as how swift they are with a bow or how they’re able to finely put ingredients together to cook the perfect meal

if you don’t know Revali very well you probably wouldn’t be able to notice when he’s coming on to his crush; it’s all subtle compliments that could be mistaken as ire for the other

the closer he gets to his crush, he’ll actually start giving them small gifts as he finds it easier than trying to express how he feels with words, which is a shock to not just his crush but him as well, since the Rito Champion is known for having a colorful vocabulary

Mipha:

Mipha’s had crushes before, so depending on how close she is with the person she’s crushing on will determine whether or not she pursues those feelings

if she does, her crush can expect to be spending a lot more time with her

she’ll go out of her way to spend time with them when not swamped by her duties as not just the Zora Princess but also their Champion

much like her brother, she’s very supportive of her crush, just not in such an extravagant manner

she’s much more subtle with making her feelings known, almost in a shy kind of way

is always making sure her crush is safe and protected, and much like she had with Link in the game, she promises to always be there to heal them if they need

the further things pass on, she might start to also gift her crush small trinkets

gifts that remind her of them, such as shells that match their eyes, or some jewelry that accentuates their lovely smile

You fell first, but she fell harder. She has Sidon already, so it took time to accept your feelings. But if you fell for both of them it makes everything easier! She adores you and Sidon so much!

Her love language is physical touches. She gives you the warmest hugs and sweetest kisses! And if it's Sidon x Yona x you, your days will be full of physical affection from both zora. You better be ready :) She also loves to give you cute little things she found, bought or made. (Like necklaces, corals, shells and everything she finds beautiful! Maybe something to remind you of her)

I guess pet names are.... "Dear, sweetie, love, pearl, my sunshine"

Riju:

She fell first, but you fell harder. Gerudo shief is so deep in love, so she is all around you. I bet she taught you how to deal with Sand seals.

Her love language is gift giving. She probably bought you every jewelry from Gerudo's masterpieces and everything you looked at in the shop. She will definitely try to master the hobbies that you love so that you can do it together!

Most of time she calls you by affectionate form of your name. But she also can use "Darling, cutie, sweet one, cupcake"

Urbosa:

You fell first and you fell harder. This strong, independent lady will fall for you with time, but then she does.... My god. You can't get enough of her love.

Her love language is quality time. She will spend all her time with you. Sweet talks and a lot of shared interests are here! She will be interested in things you like just as much as she would like to show you what she is mad about.

Pet names she uses can change depending on her mood and situation. But her personal favorite ones are "sugarplum, beautiful, precious, lovebug" Maybe she will call you "kitten" at times.

Mipha:

She fell first and she fell harder. No doubt about that. Poor princess can't handle with herself, then you are around. She is so shy about her feelings, so you will know about them from her father or if you confess first.

Her love language is quality time. She will learn about everything you like, so you had things to talk about. You will do a lot of little things together, like hand crafts, swimming together, gazing at stars at night from top of domain. She will teach you about holidays, traditions, courtship of Zora if you are interested.

Pet names are "Cutie pie, sweetheart, muffin, sweetie, my hero" And yeah, I am sure about last one. She wants you to feel strong even if she is champion here :)

I updated my Zora lineup from 2021 with the new TotK characters (and added the AoC guys too while I was at it).

To my knowledge these are all the named NPCs across the three games who use the generic adult male Zora model. I liked the idea of giving them more personality and trying to figure out unique features, all while staying faithful to the model (so no accessories, body modification etc).

More details on each character (all 14) under the cut:

Ahrt Secro and Ettu are the merchants that exist only as character portraits, but I decided to count them as individual NPCs regardless. I made an exception in "no accessories" rule for Ahrt Secro here, because of his... unconventional name (and him living in Goponga instead of the Domain); he's justified in not following their fashion standards. Ettu's only character trait iirc is that he dislikes plants. Which make up most of his stock. Rip.

Kayden is the oldest non-elder Zora guy (140ish?), calm, responsible, etc. He's an another accessory exception, with the little belt attachment. He's married and it's the "zora armor" he got from Kodah. I like to imagine that non-royal Zora women also propose with "armor", just bit more budget friendly - a single accessory or a piece of jewelry.

Capelo has basically no personality, his only few lines point to him being older and somewhat responsible. So I put him here and made him... idk, look big and serious.

Bazz! He's perfectly average when it comes to height and looks, but visibly more buff than most Zora guys. Also on the older side.

Rivan's whole thing is being Very Tall and Very Pretty. In my canon he's basically the most handsome guy in the Domain, with his long fins, smooth features and warm brown colored scales.

Ledo is like, the most average guy you've ever seen. He looks younger than he is but has no special features otherwise. Surprisingly level headed. Not very fit (for Zora standards).

Tie is another one of the new undercharacterized TotK guards, his only thing being that he complains about being out of shape. I think I like his design the least, but come on, I had nothing to work with here.

Numien, the only new guy who actually had more than two lines, all of them making him the most annoying prick in my eyes. He's just... too enthusiastic and eager to praise his superiors. I like to imagine Bazz despises him for being such a kissass (Bazz is canonically pretty judgemental) but can't do much about it. The guy is competent enough to be put in charge of the Lookout Landing squad after all. Anyway, I did my best to make him look at least a bit unhinged.

Fronk, the only man in the domain whose eyebags could compete with Bazz's, courtesy of his airhead wife Mei. He's also wearing the "zora armor" she gave him.

Resco wins the prize for least characterization. His only single trait is that he admires Gaddison. That's it. So I made him try to emulate her energy in his lineup pose.

Cleff, the shopkeeper with crab obsession. One of the prettier younger guys, although the crab thing is not working in his favor. The last one of fully adult guys in the lineup (around 90ish).

Gruve is, amusingly, the one sole unemployed Zora guy. His occupation is therefore officially, A Problem. He's very much the tall lanky teenager type.

And Tottika, another tall lanky teenager (70ish), but this time with a job. It's not canon, but he's commonly considered a twin brother of Torfeau and I quite like this idea. He's not the smartest but tries his best.

The Yona Rant.

Some people will say that this game came out months ago already, and everybody is over it, and even kinda like her now, and to that I answer 

First of all, I would like to remind you, reader, of the old texts. *blows into the sacred n64 oot cartridge* 

The Zora royal line have proven itself to be very obviously Linksexual. If you haven’t played, Ruto proclaims herself Link’s fiancée, the spiritual stone of water being a litteral engagement ring. It is clearly brought into BOTW, with Mipha actively making him an engagement present according to current Zora tradition.

Sidenote: Link accept both gifts, and as the player you never get to clear it up or refuse. Make it what you will. 

Why am I mentioning this? 

She’s Link’s Zora-sona.

(((If you want to bring gender into this, BORING. Link is canonically nonbinary. (neither male of female, able to be related to by anybody, those are things expressed multiple times by the creators))))

Everything about her that is different from the other Zoras is intended to be Link-like. 

The way she has the droopy sleeves instead of the shoulderpads 

The purple ribbon cutting into her silhouette in the same way the straps of his outfit do

The golden jewelry instead of Domain Silver

The horns simulating the spiky Hylian ears

Her head-tail is smaller and pointy, way closer to the shape of the classic hat

GREEN. A specific shade.

Babyfaced she-twink

She is the PEAK of Zora beauty standard, how silly of you to judge her with your human beauty standards. Yona is a bimbo, a barbie, everything hot under the sea. Literally evolved to be Link-like. She’s a trophy wife, a sex symbol, an idol. She has a dedicated Zora entourage simping for her.

Now, the way she suddenly shows up, without having being mentioned in BOTW… how do yall feel about surprises? I don’t think there would have been any moment in the game where it would have been natural for any Zora to bring her up, with the crisis happening, and the feelings about Mipha being so fresh to them. It made me feel like it was a world that was alive! Sidon is a hundred years old but you expect to meet everybody important to him in the first game he appears in? 

Also, I do think Yona’s existence was hinted, with Muzu there, and every other Zora looking like they could be Sidon’s sibling or child… I personally really felt like the Domain looked inbred in comparison. Was the only other option blue Mipha? Lame.

Can you imagine a young Muzu? Vibrant green, chibi-headed, Dorephan's very own "best friend". Come on.

What about not getting married at all?

The thing with kingdoms, is that it specifically depends on a royal line, especially in Hyrule where abilities are given from parent to children. There was always going to be a need for a Zora Queen at some point.

What was the other option, simply not meeting Yona? Not addressing it? How tragic to imagine her absence, a lonely King with an elderly father, no mother, no sister, just a monogamous mass of subjects. And Muzu.

No, there needed to be a fiancée, a weird Link-like gremlin, who was there to accept their love. I don't believe Sidlink could have a better happy ending than this, given nintendo.

SQFD: If Sidon was to marry anybody to continue the royal line, it’s Link’s Zora-sona of course. Which is Yona.

AU TIME BABYYY

It’s mentioned that Link and his father visited zoras domain previously when he was younger. The gist of this au is that around that time, Yona was also visiting the domain and meeting sidon for the first time, and the two would be told about how they would get married one day. Well I think the two of them absolutely clashed on their first meeting, with Sidon being reckless and a bit slow witted while Yona being a lot more careful and forward thinking. Then they both individually meet a tiny link in their own circumstances and, like kids do, both declared that they wanted to marry link instead. All of the adults were like “ehhhhh age difference makes this hella weird” so they convince the kids to instead make promises bracelets to signify “friendship”. The lil bracelets are styled like normal zora jewelry with a scale from both sidon and Yona, along with a sapphire to signify link. They keep in touch and get along well over the years until the calamity and Yona and Sidon never actually find out what happened to link. After a while, they both forget his face and name, with only the gem on their bracelets to show that they had another part of them. When link wakes up, Zelda was forward thinking enough to leave the bracelet with his belongings in the shrine of resurrection since ya gurl knew how important it was to him (zelda is aroace fight me on this if you dare) when he wakes up he knows the bracelet is important but just can’t remember what for. He wears it anyway. Eventually he arrived at zoras domain on his quest for the divine beasts. Sidon vaugly recognized him, but didn’t mention anything until his father confirmed it. He was originally excited until learning of links amnesia. Obvi he’s disappointed, but he hopes that links journey across hyrule and meeting with the champions would help restore him memories. He leave link with a kiss on the forehead as a promise and a prayer for the three of them to be together again. After link leaves, Sidon obviously sends for Yona who had about the same reaction. Link continues his journey slowly regaining his memories until ganon is finally defeated. There, meeting with zelda again and the darkness over hyrule finally being cleaned, a lot of his memories return to him. Ofc he spends time helping zelda get adjusted but the moment he has some free time, zelda turns around and is like “look, I know for a fact your dying not go see your boyfriend and girlfriend, I survived in that castle alone for a hundred years, I can last like a week.” (Zelda is the goat). And then link giddyly hops on a horse and heads to the domain where he reunited with Yona and sidon. From there they re-establish their relationship and over the 7ish time skip between BOTW and TOTK, they all get engaged. (And then TOTK happens uhoh) AND THATS ALL I GOT RN SORRY FOR THE ESSAY OF G A Y

Four hummed as he puzzled over the clues all around them. He, Hyrule, and Legend were trapped in a room with only their wits to get them out (or if they just asked the dungeon master, but there was no fun in that). It was a somewhat small space, but it was blessedly quiet, only with some gentle brain tickling music playing in the background. No beeping of monitors, no overthinking if something was going to be detrimental to someone's life. Just the thrill of puzzle solving with no repercussions if anything went wrong, and good company to boot.

The clues were obscure, to be sure. A clock with no pendulum and an upside down drawing of an elephant, a locked chest with three giant numbers, a table with a jewelry chest that had two drawings that could rotate, and three frames on the wall, one with a series of numbers, and the other two with symbols that resembled the Zora dialect, though Four wasn't entirely sure it was actually Zoran.

"There's an elephant on this chest, just like on the clock," Hyrule noted, immediately flipping the image of the elephant on the furniture to match the clock. That helped pop open the jewelry chest, which revealed the missing pendulum, but there was clearly more to be solved. Four eagerly added his own observations, how certain symbols had dots over them, which might indicate an order to a lock.

Legend, however, was silent.

"You notice anything, Ledge?" Four asked as he and Hyrule were stumped by the next step. "And, out of curiosity, is that actual Zoran on the wall? You understand their language, right?"

Legend glanced at him out of the corner of his eye, obviously distracted. "Hm?"

Four stared at him a moment. "The... the Zoran... are you okay?"

At the question, Hyrule immediately turned to face Legend fully, eyes analyzing him from head to toe, and then he relaxed a little, not finding any obvious sign of injury or illness. "Need another energy drink?"

"Another?" Four repeated. "You don't even work today!"

Legend huffed. "Still need them."

"Okay, but then what's wrong?" Four questioned again.

Legend shook his head. "Nothing. What part are we stuck on?"

Hyrule glanced between the nurses, a quiet resolve turning his face to stone, and then he looked back at the clock pendulum. "We need a code to get this out of the box. And Four was curious if the Zoran on the wall was legit."

Legend looked at the framed words and immediately shook his head. "Some of them are close, but it's just gibberish."

"How do you know Zoran anyway?" Four had been wondering about that, and maybe it would distract him.

"I've traveled a lot. Did an assignment in the Domain, picked up on some of it."

Well, at least Legend was talking now. Four wasn't quite sure what was up, but clearly something was. Maybe it was as simple as being tired; maybe Legend did need an energy drink. But still...

The trio got through yet another clue, managing to get the pendulum back on the clock, but were still puzzling over the the locked cabinet which held the key they would need to escape the room. Four found his stamina draining as he had been working all day, but Hyrule was poring over every item in the room, stubborn as ever to figure this out.

And Legend had zoned out again.

"Ledge... are you sure you're okay?" Four asked quietly, trying not to attract Hyrule's attention and put his friend on the spot. That was usually the quickest way to get Legend to deflect, after all.

"I'm tired, okay?" Legend fired back a little snippily. "Just tired."

"Let's get coffee afterward," Four offered.

Legend huffed good naturedly. "That isn't gonna cover it."

"Got it!" Hyrule shouted as he opened the cabinet. The key inside barely had an instant to glisten in the light before Hyrule snatched it and opened the door to the exit. He smirked at Legend. "Guess we'd better get that coffee, then."

The emergency nurse rolled his eyes.

The trio settled at a café nearby just as it started to rain, and between the water droplets sliding down the window and the dim, calm lighting of the room, Four nearly nodded off before he could drink his coffee. Hyrule sipped happily at his hot chocolate while Legend stared outside, his triple espresso sitting forgotten on the table.

"Does this have to do with the trauma patient?" Four finally asked, trying to confirm his suspicions. He himself hadn't taken care of the patient, but Legend clearly had since he'd asked about the outcome earlier in the evening.

Legend took a slow, weary breath, and turned his attention to his drink. "Shit happens. I'm just tired."

Yep. That was what this was about.

Four wasn't entirely sure how to address this issue. He'd been a nurse for a year now, and though he'd had a few patients die, he himself was still figuring out ways of handling it. He remembered when Sky had checked up on him after that one awful slew of shifts, how everyone had trickled through, stopping by his place, bringing him food, letting him rest and talk and cry and do whatever he needed. Four had felt well supported and loved, and he'd been eternally grateful for it.

But the weariness Legend showed, the shield of indifference he put up... it wasn't how Four coped. So Four wasn't sure what to do. He glanced uncertainly at Hyrule, who was watching Legend in silence. His paramedic friend could be equally distant, though not so cold. Four found himself wishing Dot or Sky or Malon or Twilight were here. They were much better at this.

"It sucks," Four acknowledged, feeling like that woefully underplayed it but not sure what else to say.

Legend looked at him a moment, and Four wanted to melt into the bench, but then the travel nurse smiled. He bit his lip, his gaze dropping back to his espresso, and he muttered, "Yeah. It does."

That was all the conversation Four could drag out of him, but when Hyrule started to talk about some funny stories from the ambulance, Legend followed along with calmer energy. Four gave in to the conversation, tossing jokes and inane topics back and forth, and Legend eventually started to chime in a little. By the time the three were preparing to leave, the atmosphere seemed less tense overall. Four offered to give Hyrule a ride home, but Hyrule said he could walk from there, and the three all parted ways.

Four hoped that somehow he had helped. The smile on Legend's face seemed to indicate as such, at least.

Courtship Rituals - Sidon x reader

did some research with this one, because i’m STILL so attached to my first play through of the game and didn’t want to restart it for lore. Mipha’s gift of armor to Link was more traditional rather than ritual, as each Zora princess hand makes armor for their husband-to-be. however, i do believe the Zoras would have some sort of courtship rituals, especially within in the royal family. but ultimately, i think if Sidon were to try these on a Hylian he wants to court/marry, i feel as if he would mix the two to create a hybrid courtship ritual. he cares wayyy too much for his s/o to follow the courtship rituals of the Zora.

‘Why is this so hard?’

he paces as he thinks to himself

he’s spent DAYS losing sleep

just because he can’t figure it out

and he’s falling behind in his work

he’s too focused on his feelings for you

and when you two spend some time together

you can tell he’s tired

you spend the day at Veiled Falls

letting him rest his head in your lap

but again, he’s in his own head and can’t rest

“What’s troubling you, Sidon?”

“Nothi— nothing…”

you sigh

“I’m only trying to help.”

“I know. It’s just.. I’m conflicted about some… work matters.”

and that’s the only time he’ll ever not be truthful to you

“Well, we’re here now. Get some rest.”

the gentle touch of your hand on his cheek eases his mind

and he naps for a little while

once you two have parted for the day though

his mind is back in flames

and that’s when he thinks of it

‘Jewelry!’

he does a little reading 

and you’ve both talked about Hylian customs enough for him to understand the significance of rings in Hylian culture

so he heads to Dento’s workshop

“This is going to be a strange request, but I need a piece of jewelry made.”

“That’s not so strange, Sidon. What kind of jewelry?”

“A ring.”

and Dento stares at him for a moment in disbelief

“A ring? Those aren’t in ou—”

“I know. But in Hylian cul— it’s important to me. I can pay you whatever you desire, Dento.”

and Dento agrees

they talk about ring sizes

Sidon knows your taste well

and he hopes that this ring will be as sentimental to you as it is to him

Dento completes this task

and Sidon is in awe of the small piece of metal in his hands

he hides it in his cravat

and then he’s on his way to find you

because he can’t wait another day

“Y/n! There you are! Fancy a picnic by the pond?”

“Good! I’ll see you tonight then!”

you both meet up at Ralis Pond

Sidon’s brought so much food and wine

and though you two do this kind of thing quite a bit

something just feels… different

he can’t stop smiling

or looking at you

and it makes you blush

he pours your drink

and he’s a little shaky from the nerves

“Are you alright?”

“Yeah! I’m fine!”

the night progresses on

fireflies are lighting up the space around you

and Sidon takes a deep breath

“I have something for you.”

you tilt your head

he digs into his cravat and pulls out the ring

“I had it made for you. I remember you saying rings are one of the rituals of courtship for Hylians.”

“Sidon…”

“In Zora courtship, we like to make things for our partner, and I… I wanted it to be special.”

you’re speechless

“I’ve been wanting ask this for a while, and I wasn’t sure how to, but… I want this, our relationship, to be something longterm; something… life-long. Is that something you’d be willing to… take part in?”

and you nod, the tears starting to well in your eyes

“Really?”

“Yes!”

he pulls you in close, placing his lips on yours

the passion he feels for you is endless

he pulls away slowly, taking the ring from your hand

and he gently slides it onto your finger

you look at each other with teary-eyed smiles
