Simple Cakes and Greenery
A lot of money can be spent on cake design and adornments, however, we always find that we are most drawn to simple white cakes and delicate greenery which feels fresh and romantic. Perfect for white fondant, naked or whipped frosting cakes, arrange meandering vines for a whimsical touch or adorn with palms or richer greens for a more modern look.

Raw Edges
Every material should matter in a space, and the application of each material should serve a purpose whether that be bringing in color, reflection, contrast or texture. We are used to seeing perfectly smooth honed or polished surfaces but came across images of raw countertops and are loving the way this feels both rustic and edgy (no pun intended!) Although likely not best for high traffic areas or where small children can hurt or scratch themselves along the rough surface, introduce this treatment to get a dramatic sense of dimension and a definite wow factor.

Round Mirrors
Mirrors do a lot more than just provide a reflective surface, they can expand a room, reflect light and add an elegant decorative element. Lately we are loving the look of round mirrors that nod to mid-century modern design and feel chic and unexpected. To break up more angular lines on walls consider softening the space with a round self mounted or hanging mirror.

Designer Spotlight: Eneida Tavares
How stunning are these one-of-a-kind vases by Eneida Tavares? Fusing two handmade techniques, the pieces are made from pine needles from the forests of Caldas da Rainha in Portugal and then woven using an Angolan weaving technique. Woven directly onto ceramic forms, Tavares blends the two materials and techniques seamlessly.

Wedding Welcome Signs
We are currently in the process of brainstorming a wedding welcome sign that gets the job done but still feels elegant and classic. We love the ways in which previous events have used mirrors, wood and glass to write a special note greeting guests. Use a basic easel to display your sign, lean the board up against a tree or rock or attach legs for a freestanding display.

 One Pattern Bedrooms
Selecting one bold print for a bedroom is a classic design tool for creating a space that feels both traditional and fresh. Perfect for guest rooms, recreate this look by selecting a textile and using it in multiple applications. The key is to strike a perfect balance. Do this by selecting two to three elements within a space such as the walls, headboard, linens, canopy or drapes and balancing with solids in addition to alternate textures to bring a handsome quality to the space.

Louis Ghost Chairs
Louis ghost chairs are especially perfect for small spaces or to minimize view obstructions for a wedding or event. We love their sleek modern profiles that feel fresh and unexpected and blend seamlessly into decor. While these chairs look great for the more modern and simple affair, they work equally well for a romantic or bohemian display bringing in an eclectic element. Toss cozy sheepskins or attach trimmings to the backs to dress up these minimalistic chairs and add a little fun flair!

Garden Stools
Versatile ceramic garden stools don’t need to solely live outdoors. We love bringing these delicate beauties indoors for use as side tables, stools and accent pieces where they can function as useable pottery. Available in a variety of shapes, colors and patterns, garden stools can add a great indoor outdoor feel in addition to introducing a nice pop of color or variance in texture and shape.

Venue Spotlight: Maison Estate
Maison Estate located in the Valley of the Huguenots in Franschhoek South Africa is owned by Chris Weylandt, also an owner of the well-known furniture and homeware store, “Weylandts.”  Passionate about wine and design, Weylandt decided to produce his own collection from his Franschhoek farm where the wines are produced with great care in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. In addition to its beautiful vineyards, the property boasts a stunning tasting room and restaurant simply called “The Kitchen.” Here visitors can relax, taste the estate’s wine collections and enjoy a delicious meal. Also available as a venue for weddings and events, we love the clean minimalistic interior with an emphasis on meaningful details and texture.

Limed Oak
Limed oak is a beautiful way to highlight the natural beauty of wood by highlighting or white washing the oak grain. We love the look of a matte finish on this treated wood for a rustic appearance that still feels clean sleek and modern. Beautiful for use as cabinetry in kitchens and bathrooms, cerused or limed oak can also be used to beautifully panel walls, line floors or simply as furniture, providing subtle dimension and texture.

Outdoor Showers
Nothing feels more luxurious then showering under a cascade of warm water al fresco. While it’s easy enough to set up a simple outdoor shower at any home, we love the idea of creating an outdoor oasis that can double as a meditative space. Incorporate thoughtful landscaping, decorative tile or wood slatting, and accent stools, mats and other accessories to create an outdoor shower that will have you feeling transported.

Chair Covers
Chair covers aren’t something that we are typically drawn to, however, one sleepless night as we were falling into a black hole of pinteresting, we discovered that chair covers can actually be quite elegant and can add a detail to an event that feels soft, romantic and feminine. With lots of designs to choose from, we love the idea of custom sashes, flowing voile and more modern fitted natural linen covers that can drastically change the overall impact of an event setting. Pair the flowing fabric with floral touches and you’ve got yourself a wow factor!

Twofold LA + Bloom & Plume for The Cream Event
When we were approached by Bash, Please and The Cream team to participate in this years event we were so honored and excited about the opportunity to explore and showcase some new ideas. After finding out we had been paired with Bloom & Plume, who’s work we have oohed and ahhed over for years, we knew that it was the perfect match to make something spectacular.
It all started with a Swan that we found perusing the internet. The second we laid eyes on this majestic flying beauty we knew that there was just no way that we couldn’t figure out a way to use it in our space. Luckily for us Bloom & Plume was more than on board and countered this idea with their own showstopper, a custom table filled with blooms that would sit under glass and pour out from all sides. From there ideas started flowing to make the space as opulent and innovative as possible. A perfect meeting of minds, we hadn’t felt this inspired working on a project in a long time.
From delicate ferns hanging from vintage manila rope to a backdrop of voile curtains framing a custom watercolored panel each angle of the space was tended to. A coiled jute rug layered with a vintage wool flokati helped to ground the space and add a layer of warmth to the otherwise cold concrete flooring. We had been dying to use lucite pedestals as floral columns for quite some time so at the last minute these were added to delineate the entrance. Filled with gorgeous Japanese ranunculus, blossoming branches and even small white birds crafted by Bloom & Plume, these columns ended up being crucial to framing the space.
To keep decor to a minimum and let Bloom and Plume’s jaw-dropping flower table shine, place settings and table decor were kept to a minimum. Marble chargers, modern gold flatware and brass swan accents from Borrowed Blu gave way to sand colored Hasami Porcelain Plates found via online retailer “Its Just Yes” paired with elegant touches of crystal stemware and custom silk fringed napkins made by Alexander Navas and Associates. Custom calligraphed menus layered with individual leather tags were hand crafted by Kathryn Murray Calligraphy and layered with a feather to add additional texture and dimension. A mix of trapezoid and thin tapers were set in glass holders to minimize visual obstructions and set a warm glow to the space. Finally vintage baskets from Found rentals were set in each back corner and filled with fresh and fragrant petals to round out the space and add a romantic touch.
We couldn’t have achieved this design without the expert craftsmanship of the Bloom & Plume team who were able to masterfully construct the custom table, lucite risers and hanging frame from which “Selisha” the swan hung.
Many thanks to Borrowed Blu, Its Just Yes, Found Vintage Rentals, Town and Country, The Lighter Side, Kathryn Murray, Alexander Navas and Associates, Luxe Event Rentals, Artkraft Taxidermy and Bash, Please.
