Best Man - B.C.
Word Count - 1.6K
Pairing - fem!reader x Bang Chan
Description - You didn't have a date for your best friend's wedding, but she had some plans for your non-existent love life.
a/n - a series maybe? also, I'm back here after so long I just missed writing
Tumblr media
Your best friend’s wedding. You should be excited. But here you were, sitting alone at the airport terminal, looking like you were living your worst life.
Sure, you were excited about your best friend’s wedding. You had personally seen her relationship with her fiance blossom since the freshman year of your college, you might as well have been the one who played cupid in the whole thing. You wished nothing but love and happiness for the two of them.
But this was the third wedding you were attending this year. Another two of your friends from your college group had gotten married off this year. And here you were, without even a date for the wedding, the third time in a row.
The announcement of your plane pulled you out of your depressed state and you sluggishly walked away from the waiting area, dragging your hand luggage behind you.
As your best friend, Yuna did everything in a grand manner, hers was of course a destination wedding, all the way in Jeju. You being the maid of honour meant you had to get there two weeks in advance to help with the preparations. At least Yuna would keep you company once you arrived in Jeju, far away from your lonely apartment in Seoul.
You entered the plane, mumbling a quick thank you to the air hostesses who welcomed you. The search for your seat was easy given you had a seat in the front section. You quickly sat down in your window seat after putting away your luggage.
After a while, a handsome young man in casual formal attire sat on the seat beside you. You eyed him as he put his luggage in the upper compartment. He had wide shoulders and dimples. His muscles flexed under the thin white shirt as he was putting away his handbag. You would’ve easily guessed he was a model or an actor, had he not been sitting beside you in economy class. You gulped and quickly averted your eyes as you felt his gaze on you once he settled down. You definitely didn’t want to develop a crush on a guy who sat beside you on an hour-long flight.
10 minutes of flight instructions -and your seatmate trying to greet you while you tried to make zero eye contact- later, you were finally high up in the sky. You put on a movie you had downloaded and plugged in your earphones, a clear sign that you didn’t want anyone to interrupt you.
Unfortunately for you, 15 minutes into the movie and you were already crying as you painfully related to the protagonist who had never experienced romance and thought that she was incapable of love. Desperately as you tried to wipe away your tears and focus on the movie, you received a bunch of tissues in your hand. You looked up at the man beside you who was smiling at you nervously.
“Don’t cry, it’s just a movie,” he said, breaking you out of your trance. You cleared your throat and sat up straight, wiping your eyes with the tissues he just gave you.
“I’ve watched this movie, by the way, it’s really sad,” he cutely pouted before taking back the tissues from you and giving them to an air hostess to throw away, “But I didn’t expect you to start crying just 15 minutes in, no offence.”
It was your turn to pout now, “It’s just...It’s depressing when everyone around you has partners to love and you can only watch romantic movies alone and cry.”
“Let’s watch it together then,” there it was, the dimpled smile again which left you completely flustered.
“No, I’m not gonna embarrass myself by crying again,” you huffed, still blushing, which caused him to laugh.
“Fine then, tell you about your barren love life and I will tell you about mine”
You eyed him suspiciously before launching into a rant about how everyone your age is getting married and you haven’t had a boyfriend since college. Sure, ranting about your personal life to a random stranger probably wasn’t a good idea but you were too upset to care. And besides, he seemed like a nice guy.
“....so it’s not like getting married and settled is all I want to do in life, no, I have so many career goals to achieve, but it really just sucks to be alone, you know,” you finally came to a halt and sighed.
“Wow…”
“I know I’m pathetic”
“No, it just...sounds really similar to mine,” he looked at you, puzzled.
“Come on, don’t lie to make me feel better uh-” you stared into his eyes, embarrassingly realising that you didn’t know his name.
“Oh I’m Chan,” he said extending his hand to you, “and no, I’m not lying, I haven’t had a partner since high school.”
“I’m (name), nice to meet you,” you shook his hand, “and I’ve never had a boyfriend.”
“Ouch, sorry”
“It’s okay, Chan”
The rest of the flight went surprisingly well, you and Chan talked about love and relationships and career goals till the time you had grabbed your luggage and were out of the airport.
“Where are you staying? Should I drop you?” Chan offered as his pre-booked cab arrived in front of you two.
“Ah no thanks, it’s fine, my friend is coming to get me,” you smiled up at him, but on the inside, you were upset that you had to part ways with your seatmate.
“I guess this is it then,” he gave a forced smile as well and climbed into the cab, muttering a small goodbye. You waved to him as his car retreated.
Honestly, you were glad this was over, maybe you had revealed too much to him. Looking back, you felt embarrassed at how you had sounded so desperate for a boyfriend and ranted about it to a complete stranger.
Thankfully, Yuna’s car pulled you out of your thoughts and you quickly got in the shotgun. Yuna hugged you tight, rambling about how she was glad to have you in her life and how you left everything for her and how she loved you more than her fiance.
“Hey, that’s illegal,” you commented, pulling away from the hug, “You can’t like me more than your soon to be husband.”
Yuna started the car, navigating the roads to a hotel near the wedding venue, “That’s bullshit, I love you more, run away with me.”
You scoffed, “As if I would want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“You do, you feel lonely in your 14th-floor apartment”
“Ouch”
Once you arrived at the hotel, Yuna explained to you where everyone’s rooms were. You had the honour of staying with Yuna, while her fiance was staying with his best man in another room. Your other friends’ and Yuna’s family’s rooms were on the same floor, just a few doors away from yours. You reunited with Felix, exchanging a few gossips before heading to Yuna’s room.
You were putting away your clothes in the closet when Yuna collapsed on the bed and stared at your back. “You know, Felix’s best man is really handsome. You should shoot your shot with him.”
You just sighed out loud.
“Come on, you always complain about not having a boyfriend, see if you can finally score yourself a date for my wedding,” Yuna sounded like she already had a plan to get you together even if you declined.
“Who is he anyway? Someone from our college?”
“No, it’s his childhood friend from Australia,” she said nonchalantly.
You looked at her with wide eyes, “How do you expect me to shoot my shot with someone who lives on a different continent.”
“Idiot, he doesn’t live there now, he’s settled in Seoul for 5 years”
“Well, that’s convenient”
Thankfully, Felix’s best man was arriving two days after you so you had time to mentally prepare yourself and get flirting tips from Yuna and Felix. Surely, Felix would know what his best friend liked and disliked so that made your job a lot easier. You still weren’t sure if you wanted to date this Australian guy so you had two days to think over that as well.
All plans were crushed when Yuna got a call from Felix that his best man had just arrived two days early as a surprise and the two of you were called at the restaurant for dinner with them.
“Breath in, breath out,” Yuna ran her hand along your back to calm you down before entering the restaurant. You just nervously smiled and straightened your dress before following her inside.
Felix was easy to spot with his blond hair and red highlights, which he swore he was gonna dye back to black before the wedding. Felix waved you two over and Yuna immediately went beside him before kissing him on the cheek. Across the table from the two were another two chairs, one of which looked like it had been occupied just a few minutes before. You sat down in the one beside it.
“Hi Y/N, got comfortable?” Felix asked, pouring you a glass of water.
You nodded and smiled at him, still very nervous. “Don’t tell me you’re so nervous to meet my best man,” Felix giggled like a high schooler, handing you the glass of water, “He’s in the washroom, by the way, he’ll be back soon.”
You gulped and averted his eyes, obviously flustered, “Shut up, you know about the lack of romance in my life.”
“Well that sounds familiar”
Your ears perked up at the familiar voice, turning you around immediately. There stood Chan, the guy from the plane.
He smiled at your surprised expression before pulling the chair beside yours. A wave of dread passed over you, “Wait, what are you doing here?”
Chan flashed you his dimpled smile again, “Oh I’m Felix’s best friend...and best man.”

[pool]
minho held onto both of your hands tightly, peddling his legs hard as if his life depended on it. it kind of did.
"you need to learn to float, relax your body and start peddling again. your legs are just kicking below the water," you said, stopping abruptly so that minho didn't have a chance to stop kicking and stand in the water. he crashed into you as he panicked, his arms going around your neck.
your legs struggled hard to keep yourself afloat till he was safely stood on the blue tiled floor of the pool.
"please warn me next time," minho whined, leaning against the wall, "this is pretty deep, the water's up to my chin!"
"i'm sorry," you chuckled, splashing some water onto him.
he glared at you but soon his eyes widened as he took in your figure, "wait, this is way deeper than your height."
"yeah, by about a feet"
he thought for a second before pulling you to him, so that his arms were hooked around your waist.
"i'm not gonna drown, minho," you rolled your eyes before you put your arms around his neck, pushing yourself against him, "it is you who needs to learn how to float."
minho pouted and you giggled as you pressed your lips to his. it was meant to be innocent but minho slid his tongue into your mouth, heating things up.
"this is supposed to be a swimming lesson," you pulled away, slapping his cheek lightly.
"you started it!" minho exclaimed, splashing you with water.
"whatever, go bring that kick board over here," you said, pointing towards the other end of the pool.
"i don't want it"
"why"
"i prefer holding your hands," minho winked, taking your hands into his while you just fake sighed.

...
Minho sighed for the umpteenth time that day when he saw the kitchen sink overflowing with dirty utensils. It was a sight that forced him to lose his calm, stirring up the feelings of annoyance that he had been trying to supress since the draining day he had at work.
Tossing his bag on the couch, he headed to your room. You were sprawled on the bed, your clothes, books and water bottles carelessly strewn all around you. Your desk had a couple of coffee mugs with your laptop, playing loud music as you flipped through the pages of your textbook.
Minho leaned against the doorway until he caught your attention.
"Oh Minho you’re back- Hey,” you threw a smile his way before turning your attention back to the book.
Minho sighed and came to stand beside you. He snatched the book from your hands, causing you to scowl up at him.
"What is all this y/n? Why is the apartment so unkept? The dishes are not done, there is your stuff everywhere in the living room and your bedroom is just a huge mess,” he criticized you in frustration. You were shocked at first but then glared back as you reached for your book.
“The maid didn’t show up today, okay? That’s why this place is a mess, now give it back”
"Are you a child y/n? Do you not know how to do the dishes? Or pick up your items and place them where they belong?” Minho shouted, grabbing one of the plentiful water bottles and thrusting it into your hands.
This was something unfamiliar to you. Sure, Minho was cocky AND sweet, but never had you seen this side of him. But the shock wore off, and you were furious as well.
“I have been reading all day, I also have online meetings and sessions to attend to, projects to finish, you can’t expect me to be your perfect wife and clean this place when you leave for your job!”
"Well, no one is asking you to be my wife! It is human decency to clean after oneself. And let me guess, you would have ordered fast food today given that the maid didn’t come and you aren’t so self sufficient that you can cook for yourself,” Minho scoffed, turning around to go back to his room.
You gulped. He was right, but it was not like you had any choice. Even at home, you had been busy all day. As for your lack of essential skills, you had spent your entire life with servants that saw to all your needs and wishes.
"If you’re so disgusted by me, then move out. It’s you who needs me, Lee Minho, not the other way round,” you scowled at his retreating back.
Minho didn’t even look back as he replied, “Doesn’t change the fact that you’re a spoiled brat who has everything she needs at her will, unlike some of us who have to work hard.”
You didn’t like Minho. You definitely didn’t.
Immediately as he closed the door behind him, you flipped through your book again but you couldn’t read the words. Tears filled your eyes. Sure, you were spoiled since birth but you had worked hard to be the top in your school and get into university. You had been constantly pestered and been talked about behind your back for betraying your father by not following in his footsteps, unlike other children of big businessmen. Your father himself didn’t have a problem with it but boy, had you heard some nasty things from others. Especially Naeun, who always had something bad to say about you and get on your nerves.
You closed your book and laid down in the mess on your bed as horrible memories revived in your head. The numerous times your friends only befriended you for your extravagant gifts and the habit of paying for everyone whenever you had an outing with them.
Never in your life had you flaunted your money, or been a show-off, you paid for your friends because you weren’t financially insecure unlike a few others. You expected nothing back from them except love and support.
The following morning, Minho peeked into your room to see that you were crashed out on your bed even with the bright sunlight entering through the open curtains. From the previous night, there were a few things he meant and a few things he regretted saying.
It being a weekend, Minho decided to cook breakfast for the two of you since the maid decided not to turn up for another day.
When he was satisfied with his meal for an apology, he placed the dishes on a tray and walked to your room. You were already awake, scrolling through your social media when he entered.
You noticed him, your eyes widening at the perfect-looking omelette and toast you only see in food-related videos, with two cups of coffee. Minho pulled the covers away and rested next to you with the tray in his lap. You sat up as well, gawking at the dishes in front of you. You never thought Minho would be the kind to make you breakfast in bed.
Minho cut off a piece of omelette with a fork and brought it to your lips. Hesitating a little before you tasted it, you gave him a thumbs up as soon as it hit your taste buds. He smiled at you and brought another piece to your mouth. You wanted to have more, but then you remembered that you just got up.
"It’s really good, wait I’ll brush my teeth and come,” you said, getting off the bed. Minho grabbed your arm to stop you.
"Y/n I’m sorry for yesterday, I didn’t mean it. I was stressed from work and I know that you do work hard. Just forget what I said, that's not how I think of you, I’m sorry,” Minho looked down as he picked at the food, his other hand still holding a fistful of your sleeve.
You took his hand into yours and patted it, “I’m sorry Minho, it was my fault as well, I should've cleaned up the living room at least," you smiled.
Minho returned the smile gratefully and waited for you to return after brushing your teeth. You placed yourself beside him again, this time a little closer so that your shoulders were touching. He fed you and also himself. The two of you were at peace for the first time since you had lived in the apartment.
"What do you want to do today? It's weekend," Minho asked you, setting aside the tray on the bedside table. It was not like you did many activities together but you had gotten closer over the previous few days.
"Umm, I don't know, how about we bake something?" you glanced at him, suddenly realising that you were too close to his face. Not that Minho was bothered by it.
"But we just ate," Minho whined, you knew how much of a fitness freak he was.
You two sat in silence thinking of ways to spend your day.
"By the way, the breakfast was really delicious, how did you learn to cook like that?" you commented, earning a shy smile from Minho.
"When I was a teenager, no one used to be home to feed me in the afternoon and Mom left me money. So instead of ordering something, many times I just bought ingredients and cooked myself."
"Food is the easiest thing to bond over, right? If someone gives me good food, they have my love forever," you said, already thinking about what you were going to eat for lunch.
"That's why I cooked breakfast for you I guess," Minho blurted, his face red as he proceeded to look at anything but you.
You were taken by surprise as you felt your face heat up as well. His blushing cheeks looked too cute. So, with one hand on his shoulder, you reached up to peck him on the cheek.
"Thank you, I loved it," you admitted. Minho met your eyes with an expression of shock and embarrassment. You chuckled nervously, shoving him off your bed, "Come on now, we have to clean this place!"

you stared anxiously at your fingers while you fiddled with them in your lap. you felt weight beside you on the couch as your boyfriend cautiously sat beside you.
changbin gently grabbed your hands and squeezed them, feeling your warm skin against his.
"(name) look at me," he mumbled, sightly afraid that the sight would break his heart.
and it did. your eyes were red from crying, the tear trails down your cheeks were still fresh. you whimpered as you looked at him, causing changbin to immediately pull you to his chest.
"hey, it's okay, i'm here and no one can hurt you," he whispered softly in your ear with other soothing words while you clung to him for dear life.
after a few minutes, you had calmed down and he pulled you away a little so that he could clearly look at your face. changbin wiped your tears with his thumb, making circling motions over your cheeks to sooth you.
"better?"
"yeah," you managed to croak out and immediately attached yourself to changbin again, burying your face in his chest.
the boy sighed as he rubbed your back, wishing that all the negative things in the world would leave you alone.

You were on your way to JYP’s organic restaurant to have lunch with your groupmates. Two hours ago, the group had called you over from the practice room as they knew how invested you got into dancing. And you being you, had lost the track of time and left the practice room twenty minutes late.
You sat down at the table while answering a few questions about what you were going to have from the buffet.
“I’ve been calling you since two, where were you?” your leader asked.
You smiled sheepishly, “I was practicing for the upcoming special stage and my phone-”
You looked around yourself and searched through your bag, finally coming to the realisation that you had indeed forgotten your phone in the practice room. Some other group could be practicing there now but you needed to get your phone, it was your lifeline.
"Guys I’ll be back in a few minutes.” You jogged to the elevator and went back down to the floor you came from.
As you neared the Michael-Jackson-themed door, you could already hear the music playing from inside. You were still not very comfortable around the other senior artists in your company except a few members of Stray Kids so you got noticeably nervous as you opened the door.
Inside the room was someone you knew, yet that didn’t stop your heart from racing. Lee Felix, your suppressed crush from trainee days, was dancing gracefully in the middle of the room. That was until he noticed you and gave you a shy smile.
“Hey,” you said softly, inviting yourself into the room, “I left my phone here.”
"Oh yeah it’s on the table wait-” Felix went over and grabbed the device, then walked over to you.
You took it from him and then, carefully shielding the screen from his view, you checked for any notifications. Indeed you had many, apart from the eight missed calls from your leader.
You sighed and smiled up at the boy who was still stood in front of you. Both of you didn’t know what to say, so you just muttered a quiet thank you and a goodbye as you turned around. Felix, with all the courage he could muster, grabbed your wrist to stop you from going.
"Wait!”
You looked at him with curious eyes and a red face as you waited for him to say something.
“I didn’t mean to intrude on your privacy and you were getting a lot of notifications but is that me on your lockscreen?” Felix was blushing as well for he didn’t know if it actually was him.
You internally facepalmed at your choice of lock screen. Sure, you hadn’t kept his complete face as your lock screen. But if the boy saw the image of his own lips and freckles on someone else’s phone, he’s bound to get confused.
You thought of lying. But then again, he definitely knows it’s him and it would bring up more questions and confusion. So you just confessed.
With your eyes on the ground and your wrist still in his grip, you said the words that were trapped inside you for so long, “I like you, Felix, ever since you bought that Americano for me on my first anniversary as a trainee in this company. It’s okay if you don’t feel the same, I’ll just...leave I guess.”
You glanced at him and chuckled nervously as he cleared his throat, his blush becoming even more prominent, “No! I like you too, I just- I don’t know, I got really excited when I saw your lock screen.”
He gave you a small smile as both of you stood there awkwardly.
“So? Seven o’ clock at Soul Cup? We can get something to drink and then talk in the artist’s lounge?” Felix asked, swinging your arm from side to side.
"Sounds good! I gotta go now, the girls are waiting,” you said, coming closer to Felix.
You stood up on your tiptoes and pecked his cheek, leaving him at a loss for words as you exited the room while answering an angry call from your leader.

[chocolate]
the ticking of the clock grew ominous as minutes passed in your boyfriend’s dorm’s kitchen. you didn’t know if you were more scared of a supernatural spirit showing up in the room or of chan walking in on you eating his nutella on the kitchen floor. probably the latter, given that you had already visited the dorm quite a few times and it never showed any signs of being haunted.
you slowly stood up, careful not to make any noise and pushed the nutella jar back where it belonged on the counter. with a sigh of relief, you were about to go back to sleep when a pair of arms trapped you against the counter.
you let out a startled noise but relaxed a little as chan’s scent filled your senses and the boy snuggled his face against your back.
"why are you up so late?” he asked groggily as you spun around in his embrace.
"i- i was thirsty,” you chuckled nervously, placing your hands on his arms.
chan hummed as he eyed you through his dazed eyes, until his glance fell to your lips and he smirked.
"jeongin will be mad if he knew that you ate the nutella i brought for him,” chan said, grinning at your flustered form.
"w-what?”
chan motioned to your lips and you internally facepalmed. maybe you should’ve licked your lips before facing him.
you were about to wipe the remnants of the nutella with your finger when chan put his lips on yours, sucking your lower lip softly before pulling away.
“hmm, tastes good,” he winked teasingly, causing you to shove him away. but chan kissed you again, his tongue sliding into your mouth, turning it into a heated makeout session.
your hands were in his blond hair and pulled at them a little earning a low moan from chan. He picked you up and placed you on the counter, your legs wrapping around his torso. this could’ve led to more explicit things taking place in the kitchen but chan was too tired to continue and pulled away after a while, putting his forehead against yours.
"i’m sleepy,” he whined, pouting up at you, his lips looking so cute that you couldn’t help but peck them once more.
“let’s go to sleep then,” you said softly, climbing down from the counter and leading him to the bedroom.
“can we continue this tomorrow?” he asked, once tucked into the bed by you.
“only if you don’t tell jeongin about me”
chan sighed and chuckled, wrapping his arms around you, “okay, I won’t”

...
You sat on your bed, minding your own business while reading one of the many books you had related to your major. A knock sounded on the door, driving your attention away from it.
"Come in," you called out, setting down the book beside you.
Minho walked in and closed the door behind him. He situated himself on your bed without permission, looking interested in the warm environment of your room.
He finally turned his gaze to you, who had their eyebrows raised at him.
"I have to attend a business event with your dad. He told me to bring you along as a date," Minho said, wriggling his eyebrows.
You sighed. You would have to pretend that you were actually interested in the man in front of you for more than two hours.
"Fine, when is it?"
"Be ready at 5," Minho replied and left the room, whistling at your dumbfounded expression. Business event? Only two hours away? You had to look presentable!
So you spent the remainder of your afternoon looking through outfits and accessories until you settled for a beige coloured formal dress with a white belt on your waist. Some light make-up, fixing your hair and a pair of heels and you were done.
You prepped your purse, making sure to include your earpods as you knew how boring these events could be.
When all was done, you just sat on your bed, waiting for Minho to call you.
After a few minutes of scrolling through your phone, Minho barged in, this time without knocking. He stared for a few seconds as he took in your appearance, momentarily forgetting what he was there for. You did the same, for standing in front of you was your fiancé, wearing a blazer, the same colour as your beige dress, a t-shirt underneath that was tucked into his black trousers. his hair was damp from showering but he had styled it so that his forehead was exposed once it dried.
Once minho came back to his senses, he began ushering you out of the room, "I told you to be ready by five, y/n! I don't want be late to my first event"
"You're the one who's late! i have been waiting since four thirty," you almost yelled at him from the way he almost pushed you into the passenger seat of his car.
Minho just huffed and began driving to your destination.
The ride was a comfortable silence, the two of you had grown accustomed to each other's presence and both of you were pretty quiet people so it worked. You sat humming to the songs on the radio while Minho glanced at his watch every two seconds to see if you were running late.
You frowned at his behavior, he seemed to be really anxious about this event. It was nothing for you since you had already attended a ton of these.
The car approached a traffic light which had three minutes to go until it switched to green. Minho let out a frustrated sigh and began tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. After a minute of just sitting in the traffic, Minho felt nervousness taking over him.
After the eighth time minho looked at his watch you felt worried as to what minho was feeling. You gently placed your hand on his shoulder, startling him out of his thoughts.
"It's okay, Minho, it's just an event. I've been to many of these since i was young and almost every time we were twenty minutes late. Just remember to speak casually and confidently to give a good first impression" you smiled brightly and booped his nose, hoping to put him at ease.
Minho's face grew red and the corners of his lips turned upwards as he gave you his first genuine smile. He relaxed his body and looked straight ahead, the traffic signal had just turned to green.
"Thanks"
You stepped out of the car and straightened your dress and minho hurried to your side to shut the door.
"I was going to open the door for you! what would these businessmen think if i didn't do that?" he mumbled, locking the door and handing the key to the vehicle parking guy.
You rolled your eyes and walked beside him, "Maybe if you had listened to me and hired a driver, you could've been there in time to open the door."
Minho hummed and offered you his arm. You contemplated a little and stood there staring at it.
"Come on, we have to look convincing," he said hurriedly, looking around to see if he could spot any people he already knew from your father's company.
You hooked your arm with his and Minho unconsciously smiled as he gazed your intertwined arms and then at your face. It was astonishing how you tried so little yet looked so breathtakingly beautiful.
"Oh my daughter y/n! and Mr. Lee Minho, my favourite soon-to-be successful businessman, welcome!" your father ushered you over as soon as you stepped inside the giant hall. So it was just daughter for you and so many grand words for Minho? You almost jerked your arm away from him.
The two of you sat at your parents' table, there were a few other people you knew as your father's business partners. They started introductions and marketing strategies and what not. Minho was engaged in the conversation while you were eyeing the food table that was five meters away from you.
Subtly, you stood up and walked away to get yourself a watermelon drink. There were rows and rows of snacks and meals and you couldn’t wait till dinner time rolled around. You leaned against a nearby table as you sipped your drink and took in the surroundings. Many paintings which probably cost millions adorned the walls and the spiral staircases made it seem more like a castle than a hall. Elegant men and graceful women in their thirties and forties chatted and laughed all around you about things you didn’t know anything about.
A finger tapped on your shoulder asking for your attention.
"Naeun?” you were surprised to see your sworn enemy there. Shouldn’t she be somewhere abroad, sipping her vine and partnering with big and handsome businessmen?
“It’s been a while y/n,” Naeun smirked, leaning on the table beside you. You scooted away while side-eyeing her. In the past five years she sure had grown into a beautiful woman. Even under the makeup you could tell that her features were pretty.
“What are you doing nowadays? Still in college I presume? I wonder who your dad will pass on his company seeing that you’re probably still incapable of handling it,” Naeun said, making you grit your teeth and walk away but to your annoyance, she followed behind you.
“You know it’s rude to turn your back on someone”
You turned to face her and looked her in the eyes even though you were a couple of inches shorter, “Mind your own business.”
Naeun opened her mouth for another snide remark when a voice caught both of your attention.
“Y/n your father’s looking for you, where did you run off to?” Minho entered your view.
“Minho, I-”
"Lee Minho? Fancy seeing you here”
Minho had stopped in his tracks as soon as he made eye contact with the devil in front of you.
“Naeun?” he muttered, unable to process the situation. His eyes drifted to you and he grabbed you by the arm to pull you beside him.
“You two know each other?” you managed to ask despite the tension.
“It’s nothing, y/n, let’s go,” Minho pushed you towards your father’s table.
"Sure it’s nothing when you fu-” One sharp look from Minho and Naeun stopped herself and instead smirked at the two of you.
"Well, we’ll see each other again. Congratulations on your marriage!”
...
You fiddled with your fingers in the shotgun as you waited for Minho to arrive. You wanted to leave early and felt bad to end his first business event like this.
"We should stop by a restaurant to have dinner,” Minho suggested, climbing into the car.
You just nodded your head as he began driving. He glanced at you every five seconds, you seemed upset.
“Are you alright?” he asked softly, reaching for your hand on instinct but retracted it immediately.
You hummed, “I just didn’t expect to run into her at this event. If I knew she would be there, I wouldn’t have come at all.”
Minho felt guilty as he was the reason you had had to attend the event. “I’m sorry”
"It’s not your fault, it’s okay,” you mumbled, looking out the window.
“Rough history?”
"Yeah. You?”
“Same. Might as well tell you about it now, do you want to hear it?” Minho asked, parking the car in front of an expensive restaurant.
You and Minho sat in front of each other, sipping wine and stabbing at your steak.
“Talk,” you urged Minho to tell his story.
"You should know about this, because, well, you’re my future wife. But yeah, Naeun was my college batchmate, we hooked up and fcked, it was purely lust. But she got attached and asked me out, I rejected, a lot of drama, agreed to be friends with benefits, more drama, until I stopped talking to her completely.” Minho looked like he didn’t want to remember these memories at all.
“But the time I really hated her was in final year when she went around spreading rumours about me, really bad ones, like how I was only a top student because I hooked up with the female professors ans many other things. It really broke me emotionally since she had a huge influence and many people started talking sht about me.”
“That’s horrible,” you were surprised at this past of Minho.
“As of now, I am not upset about it but I really wanted to punch her face when I saw her back there,” Minho said nonchalantly with his mouth full.
You chuckled fondly at his cuteness but looked down in embarrassment when he raised an eyebrow at you.
“Knowing Naeun, if we meet again, she would probably bring up that she hooked up with you and what not just to make me jealous. I don’t think she knows that this is an arranged marriage,” you giggled at the thought. Maybe you could make a fool out of her.
Minho looked at you and chuckled, once again reminding himself that you were, in fact, not in love with him.
