If there is anything that motivates a Nara, it’s curiosity. What’s more curious than the person that sparked such an intense reaction in their future leader?
Basically the premise is that Shikamaru’s clansmen/friends/cousins want to find out what’s so special about Naruto.
Only to have a…”Oh no! He’s hot!” moment.
Shikamaru isn’t having it.

Artist Asks!! Number 1, 2, 5, 7, 15, and 25 :D Thank you and apologies for the disturbance ^^"
Lots of questions to answer!  I’ll give it my best!
1. Do you prefer traditional drawing, or digital?
Ah, this is a tough question!  I like both of them, really, and they both have advantages-- there are certainly things I can do with each one that I can’t do with the other.  Drawing with ballpoint is a nice activity that I like to return to, even though I’m now learning digital art, and I do often find it very enjoyable.  Hybrid projects where I combine both types are fun too!  So, to me, on paper is more relaxing and digital is more challenging, but I am new at it-- I started learning digital art in January, so how I feel is still growing and changing as I continue to learn.
(Also related to preference, I suppose, is the fact that I am very light-sensitive.  I have a glare-resistant drawing tablet that I keep quite dim, but if I am not feeling well, paper out of direct light is safer to draw on, so sometimes that is also a factor in what I prefer in a moment.)
2. How long have you been drawing?
...huh.  How do I answer this...?  I’ve drawn on occasion since learning to hold drawing instruments, but mostly just doodling and not always very often.  A lot of it was just pencil on the edges of worksheets.  I drew some pieces with more effort during the 2016-2017 school year in moments of spare time, and then had the occasional project going on since then, but not much.  Really, my recent bout of drawing started last summer, and suddenly it became one of my main hobbies.  So an answer on “how long” is hard to decide on.  I feel in many ways that I am quite new to it.
As I said above, I began digital art in January 2021.  Lots to learn there!
5. What’s your favorite thing to draw?
At present, it’s definitely Itsuwaribito fanart, but I’m not sure if that’s specific enough or not.  Outside of that, I like to draw somewhat creepy things, like spirits and odd creatures.  There are other things too-- it’s hard to pick a singular favorite thing.
(Maybe my favorite thing to draw is emotion, but that’s hard to pin as a thing, and it’s not something I can be sure carries across to others through the art.)
7. How often do you use references?
Depends on what I’m drawing (and sometimes on how much I care about how it turns out).  If I’m new to drawing a character, I will usually look at pictures (or detail information) from the source to try and make sure I have an idea of details like how long their coat is, how many buttons they have, what the basic shape of their hair is, etc.  (I wouldn’t copy any poses without calling it a redraw.)  Sometimes I prop my phone somewhere with a timer set on the camera to get a picture of myself for pose reference-- I have to adjust for different body shapes, but it gives me the basics of poses for some projects.  On occasion, I will look up or seek out a thing to get a picture for reference of stuff not mentioned above-- for example, I looked up the bone structure of human hands and ribcages for that one picture I drew of Choza.
Mostly with references I just eyeball them.  I sometimes forget to use them as well.  They can be helpful.  Other times they aren’t needed, like when I draw yet another chibi Uzume.
15.  How long does an average piece take you to complete?
Another good question that I wish I could answer more precisely!  Most things I tag as “doodle” don’t take very long, as the goal is to worry less on them.  Some of my projects are small ballpoint drawings completed in less than an hour.  Some are ballpoint projects that take several hours.  If a piece takes up a full page of (non-digital) paper, it probably took around a full waking day to do.  (Hard to tell online how big everything is, though!)
Digital art goes slower than on-paper art for me at present, in part because of how new I am to it.  With paper and digital both, however, my speed is increasing.  I can draw more quickly now than I could half a year ago!
...Sometimes it’s best to be slow and careful on a piece, though.  The aforementioned Choza picture took about eighteen hours to draw when I drew it, and I don’t know if it’d take a much shorter time to do a similar piece now.  Paper-based projects don’t have an undo button for the pen stage, so a slip of the hand will remain.
So, all in all, most of what I draw is done in more than an hour and less than a day.  Some big projects, including complicated pieces and not-as-short-or-chibi-style comics, may take longer.  (Digital chibi comics take much longer than paper ones, I’ve been finding out.)
25. Do you like to draw in silence, or with music?
The easiest question!  I draw in silence.  Okay, sometimes there is noise in the background from other people, but I have only tried drawing while listening to music a few times, and the music stops and I don’t keep it going.  Sometimes I hum a bit or have a song stuck in my head, but I tend to hyperfocus while drawing, so that fades out and I end up only focused on what I’m looking at.  When I get distracted and have less focus, I may think about songs or music, but even my music-related art isn’t done while listening to the music!  My focus just doesn’t work that way.
(I find it really interesting how that works for different people!  Looks like others are curious too.  -wWw- )
---
Thanks for sending in all those questions!  It’s not a disturbance at all, and I hope my answers are informative and not too rambling!  Art is fun, and I like to talk about it.

Walking alone in Lowtown gave Anora goosebumps. No small wonder, really, what with her being a woman, and a mage, and being about the right size to simply snatch up without a second glance. She had learned by now to keep her coin in a small burlap sack, wrapped tightly around her wrist and close to her body at all times. If worse came to worse, she could use it as a makeshift weapon.
Every hawker shouting to draw attention to their pop up shops made her flinch. It was almost too loud. It was never this noisy in the Circle, and it had been even quieter at the rehabilitation retreat Ephemer had been admitted to for awhile. At least she could still be fairly invisible in Lowtown- assuming no one tried to kidnap her first. Anora did her best to avoid most of the noise. She eventually found herself at a modest stall that held some basic supplies on offer.
The young woman bit her lower lip as she looked over the potions and wares for sale. She didn't notice that the seller of these items was arranging a few more expensive items in the back. She didn't hear the sound of an odd mewling from something inside the stall, drawing the attention of the stall's proprietor. Anora still barely registered when he came to the front of the stall, looking her over without a hint of bias.
“Is there anything I can interest you with, madam?”
Despite being a gentle, warm voice, Anora nearly jumped three feet in the air. She looked up at the merchant with wide, terrified eyes. She was greeted with gentle ones staring right back at her. No shame, no judgment, just a genuine curiosity.
“Oh, no, no.” the young woman stammered, backing a little away from the stall. Her face was starting to grow hot. Why was she blushing? She wasn't that embarrassed. Was she? “I was just looking to sell some excess healing potions I had. Nothing special.”
“Is that all?” the merchant mused with a teasing grin. He fingered the tip of his fedora and tipped it to her. “Well, I could take a look at them for you. I pay pretty fair coin for a good commodity.”
Anora shrunk a little. She did say she was looking to get rid of her excess health potions. This merchant also seemed to be rather nice. When was the last time anyone was that nice to her? Even Ephemer had to hide how much he cared when he was with the other Templars. Despite herself, Anora carefully placed her burlap sack on the counter, ready for him to inspect her potions and poultices.
“Before we do business,” the merchant spoke up, offering his hand to her, “Let's introduce ourselves proper. My name is Brain.”
“Brain?” Anora repeated in surprise.
To this, the merchant gave a light chuckle. “I have many other names, but I wanted to know how that one would sound on your tongue. Ferelden, right? Kirkwall's seeing more of them by the day.”
Still unsure on why she was so bashful, Anora quickly nodded her head in agreement. Her own arm extended to accept Brain's hand shake.
“I am Anora.” she carefully said.
“The pleasure is mine, Anora.” Brain smiled; his hand gently clasped in hers, and it gave it three shakes before breaking them apart. “Now, let's see what you have in that little rucksack of yours.”
There was a polite little nod from the young woman before opening her sack of healing items. Brain let out a low whistle at the sheer quantity of them. The vials that held the potions gave off a warm, comforting glow as the vial itself revealed the bright red liquid inside. The poultices were made with just as much care; each placed inside a steel tin and wrapped with colored cloth- a date written in black ink indicating when she had made that particular poultice.
As Brain looked over everything, a cold chill ran up Anora's spine that made her look over her shoulder. It almost felt like someone was watching her. Sure, many of the Templars at Kirkwall knew she was a mage, and some were sent to watch her while Ephemer trained or was attending to his duties. But she never actually felt them watching her. Some would go out of their way just to escort her from place to place. Perhaps not kindly, but they definitely didn't hide what they were doing. None of them would try to hide from her if they were sent to watch either, come to think of it. Would they?
“These are neatly made.” Brain noted- succeeding in scaring the young woman for the second time that day. “Not perfect, of course. But pure elfroot? That stuff's in hot commodity around here. It'll be potent, if nothing else.” He then set the potion down to look her over. “Almost too potent for a tiny little waif like you. Are you trying to cure a dragon or something?”
A nervous laugh escaped Anora's lips. In a small voice she admitted, “I am the caretaker to one of the new Templar recruits.”
“Ah.” Brain nodded. “May I ask how?”
The young woman shrank a little as she shook her head. “Long story.” she told him- her voice even smaller than before. Brain observed her, slightly tipping his hat upward.
“Very well then,” he decided with a shrug, “I'll be the last person to judge a person's past.”
Anora offered a faint smile in thanks. For a moment, the merchant simply admired her before turning his attention back to her wares. There was quite a bit of silence between the two as Brain looked over everything. Possibly several moments in, Anora started to hear an odd mewling sound from inside the stand, but Brain had ignored it. The mewls grew louder until something suddenly leaped onto the shop counter.
A shriek almost escaped the young woman's lips when all she saw was something gray with black spots. Brain was immediately at attention, but in finding what had jumped up, he laughed at her. Anora took a moment to regain her breath before realizing that the creature was a snow leopard. But… much smaller; possibly not much smaller than a standard cat. It didn't seem like a kitten, though, and it certainly looked like the pictures of adult leopards in the zoology books back in the Circle. Her demeanor easily went from surprised horror to complete bewilderment.
“Are you afraid of animals?” Brain teasingly asked her, petting the snow leopard.
“I... had a sheltered childhood.” Anora informed him with a wary voice. “But I don't remember leopards being so… tiny, though.”
Brain gave her a little smirk, giving the little leopard a rather absent stroke along its back.
“Ragnar's a special case.” he told her with a bemused voice. “All the fun protective natures of a snow leopard, scaled down to nothing more than the size of a house cat. If you'll believe it, he was the largest of his litter.”
Anora cocked an eyebrow at him, turning her attention back to the small creature. At the time, the snow leopard, Ragnar, turned its attention to her as well. The pygmy leopard left its master to better scope out the newcomer. It sniffed at Anora with interest- something that she tried rather hard not to recoil at. When Ragnar started to rub his head against Anora, the young woman very carefully started to pet him. Ragnar seemed to enjoy this; a small purring noise could be heard from the creature.
“Huh.” the merchant wondered. He placed a hand at the back brim of his hat, tilting it upwards a bit. “He doesn't usually take to strangers that easily. Must really like you...”
“Is that bad?”
Brain looked up at her- a small twinkle shown in his eye as he said, “No. Not at all. It just means that you're destined for great things.”
Anora's eyes grew wide as she looked up at Brain. “Y-you're joking!” she stammered. It was a bit hard to tell, but there was a small blush placed on her cheeks from embarrassment. “You're just saying that!”
Brain let out a light chuckle, throwing up a hand in promise. “Swear on my life it's the truth.” he told her. “And on the official adoption certificate from the Black Emporium. Would you like to see it?”
“No thanks...”
“Suit yourself.” Brain teased with a shrug. “Now, where were we before getting so rudely interrupted...”
Brain continued to go through what Anora had brought with her. As he pulled out a piece of vellum, an inkwell, and a feathered pen to write out a receipt of sale, Ragnar gave a disinterested stretch before deciding to take a nap on the counter. Anora kept her attention more focused on the little snow leopard than to Brain- who was trying to tell her how much coin he was about to give her. He laughed when he caught her near grimace, and he didn't break her thoughts as he gently placed what he owed her into her sack.
“Well,” he finally announced as he tied off the sack for her, “I suppose we're done here. It was nice doing business with you, Anora.”
That finally got Anora out of her trance. Was it really time for them to depart so soon?
“How much longer are you going to be at Kirkwall?” she asked, almost a bit too quickly.
“I might be around for another week or two.” he said to her. “I've finally found good help with my main shop in Val Royeaux, so I'm not expected back immediately. If I give them a fair enough warning, I could linger behind for a bit longer.” Brain then tilted his head at her and gave her a sly smile. “Why?”
Anora immediately looked away. “I-I...” she started to stammer, “I was just curious. It gets rather boring waiting for E- my Templar to finish with his training or duties.”
“You can't wait by Templar Hall for him?”
“Another long story.” Anora bitterly informed him. Brain gave an understanding nod in agreement.
“Business in Lowtown is usually pretty slow.” he then informed her. “Perhaps I could put in a request to change locations to the Gallows for the rest of my stay. Those Templars are always buying potions and such- I might actually turn a profit for once.”
Anora's eyes widened in surprise. “You don't have to do that!” she said. But the merchant only laughed.
“Anora-bird, if the street walkers around here were half as pretty as you, I'd reconsider. But as it stands, I could use a change of location. Perhaps we'll meet up again soon. Who knows in a backwards town like this?”
Again feeling her face heat up in a humble bashfulness, Anora offered Brain a polite little nod. She once more wrapped her burlap sack tightly around her wrist -now a bit heavier from the coin he had given her- before starting to head back. The young woman barely looked up as she scurried to Lowtown's main entrance- and it was by accident that she bumped into someone on the way out. She looked up at who she had run into, and nearly staggered back in a horrified shock.
“Knight-Commander!” Anora gasped. “I-I didn't see you...”
The Knight-Commander did not answer her. Instead, he chose to glare at her with an unreadable expression. Anora let out a nervous laughter as she moved away from him, hurrying back to Templar Hall. With an arched eyebrow, Sephiroth watched her leave before turning his attention to Brain. The merchant, who had been observing Anora for a moment as she parted, had turned his attention to the poultices and potions she had given him. As he admired the slightly glowing mixtures in their bottles, he absently gave his pygmy snow leopard strokes along its back. At this, Sephiroth's eyebrows furrowed.
“Interesting.” he decided, in monotone, before also making his way back to Templar Hall. “Very interesting indeed.”

yee! ill put this under a cut bc its long and features eye/body horror
also this turned more into me rambling abt using uncanny valley srry if its not much help fjdsjf
[note before starting: this advice only mostly deals w drawing faces]
i think the best way to make something unsettling is to create a disconnect between parts of the face, so u can recognize elements of it as human, but its all....wrong
here’s a small explanation on uncanny valley with wolves as an example:
Tumblr media
1. the one on the left is drawn as a non anthropomorphic animal (so ur brain doesnt react negatively to it having no expression)
2. the one on the right has anthropomorphic features (humanish eyes, expressive eyebrows and mouth), and it doesnt look jarring because it uses a simple cartoony style with enlarged eyes to make it look Cutesy
Tumblr media
3. (uncanny valley) the one on the left here has anthropomorphic features like the cartoon one (human like eyes that are shifted up the skull , an outline vaguely where your cheekbones are, rounded teeth and a smiling expression) but your brain will immediately react badly to this style due to:
human proportioned eyes, but no eyebrows to indicate expression
too much detail on the shapes of the face
too many teeth showing
the eyes not having any highlights and dark shading in/around them, which makes them appear slightly dead
4. the one on the right is simplified like the cartoon one, so its smaller eyes and more humanish eyebrows dont look odd. the shine on the eyes also helps to make it not look like a zombie
and heres how 2 apply it to ur art on purpose! this is a chibi of my oc mike, styled in a cartoonish/chibi way
Tumblr media
his mouth/eyes/eyebrows are all in the same style and expression, so he looks cute
Tumblr media
if you take away his eyebrows and make his eyes more realistic(ish), with way too much detail on the iris, it makes him look unsettling (no eyebrows and giant staring eyes look pretty sinister on a chibi)
it also helps 2 shift your characters view to be looking directly at the viewer, and put red highlights under the lower eyelid
you could just stop here and call it done.........but....
Tumblr media
u can go even worse by giving ur character a set of teeth that clearly doesnt belong 2 that style! (altho overdoing the sharpness of the teeth can slightly ruin the effect imo)
if you want to make it Even Worse:
Tumblr media
turn up the contrast on ur character and get some bright clashing colours (cyan, magenta, purple, lime green, etc) and then pretend ur a demonic child and attack the art with a crayon brush fdjsfhdksjf
you can select parts of their face and move them around crudely to make them look like a collage of sorts!! (like this guy below) make it look all thrown together!
Tumblr media
remember to put emphasis on the parts u want to stand out (like the eyes/teeth/pupils)
(ofc you dont have to only modify the eyes/mouth to make smth scary, its just a common way of dropping the cute/endearing factor of a creature to 0% )
tl;dr : make the style nice but also make eyes and teeth look scary and then ruin ur art with crayons from hell

:iconeb-the-gamer: contacted me about trying out this idea.  So this is totally an experiment, so we'll see what happens. Any rate, he basically suggested Guest Dopts.  A set of adoptables ... but made my guest artists. - The big caveat would be each of these sets would be individually negotiated between me and guest, meaning that each of these would see different prices and offerings (to enable more flexibility) - This variability in price/offering is mostly just going to be the result of getting a fair deal for the guest artist and working to maximize their artistic strengths. If this works, we might see more of these.  Or if you're interested in giving it a shot, let me know. ... ALL THAT BEING SAID. This set's inspired by EB's own story world and characters, the E-Demention.  However, the usual "clean hands" licensing arrangement still stands, so you'll be able to insert the freely into your own cast/story. While prices are the same as usual for this set, what will happen is I'll be providing a colored-bust portrait with the purchase of the minimum dopt ($30).  higher purchases beyond that will remain the same. So yeah, look through these and let me know if you're interested!  (I'll post the usual rules below as a reminder) - Omegan, "A tall, pretty, alcohol-intolerant alien that enjoys striped clothing and bellbottom jeans from earth.  Her odd hair tentacle acts as both hand and mouth, which she uses as a feeler to scope out new aspects of her surroundings." - Ruffle, "A shapely monster of the more feathery "Vamp" subfamily of vampire. Her sophisticated demeanor hides a self-conscious girl that hates her tendency to leave feathers everywhere she goes."- Peune, "A lazy cricket Insectoid who leads a group of ants to do her bidding. Her athletic ability and desire to help is actually pretty impressive, in spite of being bored by her own effortless feats." - Hsssh, "A living sensor that rolls around on a bubble-like ball filled with its concoctions.  Don't underestimate it, on account of its foolish demeanor.  Not only does it like blood, its tail can deliver a nasty snap."- Mimemock, " A clownish monster that imitates the movements of others in a deliberate attempt to annoy.  This end goal helps the creature to literally feed off negative emotion, which leads to more trouble than one would think."- Thimblossem, "A tenacious, tricky flower demon capable of flight.  Its true face is actually very cute.  To hide this, the monster uses tendrils to manipulate a "Puppet" face to more easily scare its victims." ====== CONVENIENT REVIEW ON HOW THIS WORKS PLEASE REVIEW AS I RUN DOPTS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN OTHER ARTISTS - these are bust previews, yay - the transaction is clean hands, no fuss no muss, feel free to ask if you have further questions - There are two pricing options ...  - $30 lands you the adoptable as is (full rights to character and etc)       - the preview drawing will be colored after purchase       - I'll be willing to give advice on how to mesh this with your other characters, but only after you do some legwork on implementing them into your cast  - $50 lands you the chibi and bust sketch preview together       - whatever component is missing from the set (bust sketch or chibi) to be done later  - $60 lands you the adoptable and you also get a full body drawing of the character       - again, the bust preview will be colored after purchase, as well as full rights and such       (note, this will be placed on the following schedule --> fav.me/da5v3im )  - $80 lands you all 3: chibi, bust sketch, and full body - IF, by chance, someone else adopts the adoptable you wanted you can get a SIMILAR one for $30   - to clarify further, the new character will be a new character, but with enough changes to be a new character (i.e. Ryu and Ken are similar)       - do note this is a courtesy offer as sets sometimes sell out on day 1, please be respectful   - One other footnote: if you want a character "but with some changes" I would count that as a similar dopt - ALSO, Patrons have first dibs during the first day (that is, until I wake up the day after posting)   - everyone else can place second dibs VIA NOTE, and will be rewarded the character if no patrons claim them   - Please don't passive aggressively say "I SURE HOPE NOBODY ADOPTS THIS CHARACTER" in the comment section   - you can find out more at --> patreon.com/jonfreeman

Movie Reviews: Fullmetal Alchemist (2017 Live-Action Adaptation)
Uuuuuuuuuggggggggghhhhh
.... Okay...
Live-action anime adaptations became a hot button topic last year with the releases of American productions of Ghost in the Shell and Death Note. Meanwhile, the live-action version of Fullmetal Alchemist was finishing up for its release in Japan, and now it’s available outside the country to stream on Netflix. Some critics assumed since anime is Japan’s thing, they should know how to best adapt the source material to fit live-action, right?
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, as American live-action adaptations often stray too far from the source material, Japanese live-action adaptations follow the source material way too closely to the point where it’s just a frame-by-frame, line-by-line remake. It doesn’t help that they often choose projects which don’t lend themselves to live-action adaptation, whether it’s jamming in 50-plus episodes of world building in two hours or making not-so-great CGI of monsters and creatures which looked much better in drawings and animation. And I know comparing the Japanese film industry to Hollywood is cruel, but a major part of adapting a story from one medium to another is knowing if that can even happen, what limits you’ll run into, and how to work around them-- you have to make a ton of cuts and compromises for the story to flow in film language. This isn’t the case for all Japanese live-action adaptations, but in recent years, works like the two Attack on Titan films proved that regardless of whose behind the production, certain anime and/or manga just don’t work well in live-action.
Tumblr media
The live-action version of Fullmetal Alchemist seemed to promise a change for such adaptations, but falls flat on some of the issues I mentioned before. Did it set itself up for failure or is there effort to be appreciated? Well... Let’s dive in.
Spoilers if you haven’t read the manga or watched the Brotherhood anime.
The story remains the same with a world where alchemy is a science of understanding, deconstructing and reconstructing matter. To obtain, something of equal value must be given, and two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, learn that the hard way when they commit the ultimate taboo of human transmutation to bring their mother back to life. Edward loses his leg while Alphonse loses his entire body. Edward is only able to save his little brother at the last second by transmuting his soul to a suit of armor in exchange for his arm. They embark on a new mission to restore their bodies and find the Philosopher’s Stone, an item which can transmute anything without equivalent exchange. They make powerful allies and enemies while hunting clues which eventually uncover a grand plot which will put everyone they love in danger.
The production design for this film is beautiful. Most of it was filmed in Volterra, Italy, and it is the perfect location to emulate Amestris’s major cities and countryside towns. And the CGI is impressive as well with the alchemy and knows not to make everything crisp and clean-- there’s still a bit of grittiness to the chimeras and such. And Alphonse with the armor is up there with Smaug as one of the best uses of CGI I’ve seen in film. I have no problem believing he’s there, and he’s a bit more slow moving to fit in a live-action environment. Even though he can’t be as fast paced in animation or go chibi when he’s emotional, his basic movements and voice acting (Atomu Mizuishi) are enough to carry him through. Unfortunately, Alphonse isn’t in the film much which is where it starts to falter...
I give the actors credit they’re doing their damnedest to live up to these characters and deliver great performances. You can tell they don’t have much to work with, but they’re giving it their all. Sometimes it works well like with Maes Hughes (Ryuta Sato), but when someone like Envy (Kanata Hongo) has practically zero personality or charisma, it’s painfully noticeable. And Alphonse is one of the main characters in a show hyper-focused on brothers, but when you don’t even have enough budget to show his character arc, you lose a massive chunk of the story. It dampers his relationship with Edward (who’s character archetype is now a sad pretty boy, I guess), and I don’t feel the same strong brotherly connection which drove the original story. Again, I give Ryosuke Yamada credit that he’s trying to make a good performance as Edward, but compared to the original, it’s pretty weak.
As the central themes are muddled up, so is the story. It throws everything and the kitchen sink in, and it flows choppier than the Atlantic Ocean during a hurricane. It tries to condense about half of the series with some rearranged events into 2 hours and 14 minutes. Sometimes there are changes from the source material which sound interesting like how Envy disguises themselves as Roy Mustang instead of Maria Ross when they kill Maes Hughes, but at other points it’s just remaking the same shots from the manga like an overly expensive cosplay photo shoot. And some stories are just dropped and never mentioned again even no matter how much you anticipate them bringing them up again.
For example, they show Shou Tucker turning Nina and Alexander into a chimera, and he’s arrested and shows up later in the film to continue Philosopher’s Stone experiments. But what happens to Nina/Alexander since the movie never introduces Scar? I don’t have a fucking clue. It’s never addressed what happened to her or if she’s alive or dead. And it happens so quickly that there’s no time to leave any emotional impact.
And that’s the film’s major crime: they took the two most emotional and heart-wrenching moments of any manga/anime (the Nina/Alexander chimera and Maes Hughes’s death), and I felt nothing. The film’s so on fast forward from one series highlight to the next with little segway and sloppy exposition, and it doesn’t care to leave room for any emotional investment because I’ve already seen this story before. It follows the same trap of sticking too close to the source material, and why even bother if it was already done well in one medium?
What’s even weirder is despite how much the film throws at you, it’s still so slow-paced. I remember I kept checking the time, and we were barely halfway through the movie. I don’t know how the hell that happens, but it did, and it’s so odd how quickly I got bored and frustrated.
And there’s a bunch of little details of world-building which don’t logically add up. Why is Winry so involved with their hunt for the Philosopher’s Stone? Where’s King Bradley in all of this with Central falling apart? What’s going on in Liore after Father Cornell is gone? What do they do with Lust’s Philosopher’s Stone since Edward doesn’t use it to bring back Alphonse because buhuhuh morality? WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THIS ALL POWERFUL ROCK NOW SINCE IT DIDN’T DISSOLVE WHEN LUST DIED? All those small details add up to the larger story and climax of Fullmetal Alchemist, and they cut so much to the point where it runs on sloppy, nonsensical logic and loses its grand scale and becomes so underwhelming.
It really sucks that so much effort was put into the production design and acting for a lackluster story. It really needed someone to take a step back and say that nothing made sense or that it wouldn’t live up to the manga or anime, and it should’ve been left as is. I honestly can’t remember the last time a movie made me this bitter at any and all lost potential.
If you want to look at some shinies for a couple hours and see where the effort pays off, you’ll find some great imagery and a few nice scenes. But if you’re looking for the same strong characters and story, you’re better of binging Brotherhood instead.

http://dramarising.com/post/163032265627/questions-for-you-all
1-I have a lot of answers for this actually. First of all, the fact that it centers on dragon variants instead of cats or horses or whatever random creature that gets thrown in. Second, it’s not drawn in an awful generic anime chibi style. It’s still kind of cartoony, but in a way that’s more believable and appealing to a wider audience. Oddly also the fact that the dragon sprites are relatively large rather than being sticker-sized helps me get attached to them(I guess because with larger sprites you can see more detail). Third, The fact that holidays are relatively regular and don’t correspond to any real-life ones. Fourth, the dual-tone colors and the fact that they’re treated exactly the same as any other color rather than being some “special” thing that you can never get unless you sacrifice a goat to the admins on the full moon the night of the 25th every 12 years at midnight on Monday of leap year. Seriously, NEVER have limited colors. It’s very discouraging and it never works out. Fifth, Apparel. No other site i’ve seen bothers with an apparel system and only one bothers with custom skins. A mistake almost all sites make is making the mechanics revolve around breeding better offspring when really most people want to just get some nice permas and keep and customize them, with breeding “better” kids as just a bonus, and apparel helps with that. Sixth, The site mechanics are relatively simple, most pages are pretty easy to find, the interface is not great but better than most i’ve seen, and the average newbie could probably figure out most of it within a week. Seventh, the fact that you can trade premium currency with other players and there’s no such thing as an “upgraded” account. I know having VIP members sounds like a great idea on paper but don’t do it. Every site I’ve seen it done on was killed by it. Eighth, I cannot possibly emphasize enough the importance of the scrying workshop and gene scrolls in keeping me interested in this game. If they weren’t here, i can tell you with absolute certainty that i and many other people would have lost hope at getting anywhere and given up on this game years ago. No one breeds the exact combo you’re looking for? That’s alright, just find one with the right colors and save up for a genescroll or two. Want to give someone a big gift? Genescrolls. Want easy filler prizes for the top tiers of events? Genescrolls. You think this combo would be pretty but you can’t find any existing ones to make sure? Pop over to the scry workshop and check it out, then buy some genescrolls. Done all your daily quests and there’s nothing left to do but wait for the timers on everything to run down? Kill time by planning projects in the scry workshop. These two dragons look like they would make nice kids but you’re not sure? Foresee progeny those suckers. Ect. Ninth, a minor detail but still one that feels worth mentioning, is the lore. Admittedly i really don’t agree with most of the admin’s lore choices but the fact that they tried to make a coherent backstory at all is something all but completely unseen in the petsite genre and i appreciate the effort even if i don’t agree with the precise result. Distant Tenth, i like that multiple eye colors and elements are an option even if i feel the implementation of both was clunky and poorly-considered (If i want a dragon with 5 pixels that are yellow instead of blue i have to go through an entirely unsupported exchange with another player who will take my beloved dragons for a week and most likely never even give them back? What the shit?!).
2-Aside from daily quests like tomo and bonding, that would have to be mostly planning and executing gene projects.
3-The fairgrounds and to some degree the coli. Both are painfully mind-numbing and give very little reward for the amount of effort put in.
4-Definitely coli grinding. It’s such an awful drag that pays almost nothing and doing it constantly is a requirement to get anywhere in the game. Guys, i know a simple turn-based-rpg combat system is comparatively easy to design and program, but please consider doing something else. I’m getting really sick of seeing it.
Some extra notes for you-
-NEVER have a system of “If you’re offline for X time your account gets deleted/your dragons get given away/ect” or “Your dragons die at x age” unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE. Take it from my personal experience, all of the above strongly discourage people from signing up or sticking with the game even if they do sign up.
-NEVER have limited/event only genes or colors. This strongly discourages creativity and gene/breeding projects because people will feel like they’ll never be able to do it and give up on the game, Or they’ll feel that experimenting with odd combos using these is “wasteful”. Limited species can be done, but i would recommend only having a few. 2-4 at most, and it would be best to have the event they come from occur annually(with obvious exceptions for cases like if they were kickstarter rewards).
-Even if you want a 2D turn based rpg system there’s still more you can do with it that the incredibly bare-bones system FR has. Take chrono trigger for example. Also music and sound effects would be appreciated.
-Personally i think it would be best if any species could breed with any other species, even if it realistically makes no sense. Having it so dragon a can only breed with other dragon a just makes everything frustratingly restrictive and reduces population diversity.
-Please don’t make every single species design a dumpy furry kitten blob creature. Us edgy and/or realism fan folk need some options too.
-Dom the way it’s designed was an awful idea. All it’s done is divide the community with tribalism and ensure one or two rich powerhouse flights permanently rise on top and monopolize everything so no one else can follow, which will eventually kill all the other flights because they’ll either give up and move or be driven out of the game by some combination of frustration and bullying. Don’t follow FR’s example on this. Just the word dom alone incites some of the most vicious flamewars known to the site.
-I strongly recommend drawing your winged creatures with their wings fanned out or in some other highly visible non-folded position. It’s just overall much more attractive and makes it feel more like the colors and genes on them make a real difference.
I know there’s plenty more but i can’t remember it right now so here you go.
Disclaimer: I am not a petsite designer. I’m just someone who’s made a habit of closely observing a lot of petsites.

Reaper, Mercy, Pharah and Tracer reacting to a part-bird person?
I love asks like these, I really do. Hybrids, mythical beasts, I’m such a nerd for this stuff.
By the way, I’m thinking of the bird-person being kind of like the harpy of Smite. (If you don’t know it, just Google “Smite harpy” and you’ll see what I’m talking about). Except they’re smaller, cuter, fluffier, and they have hair instead of feathers. Or feathery hair. Also, gender-neutral as always. :3
Guys, I wanna draw the harpy bean now, halp.
Also reminds me that I drew a smol/chibi Zenyatta a while back that I’ve been meaning to finish and post.
~~~
Reaper
He’s kind of like, “Okay. This is odd but okay.”
Like he’s seen weirder; he’s a ghostly smoke beast-guy himself, so
Also, he likes birbs, so they interest him
He’ll never say that he wants to touch their feathers though
Even though he does
Very much
If they offer, he will definitely accept it
Especially if they’re an owl bird-person
He loves owls
If they get close enough, he might joke around with them
Bring them bird seeds, set up a birdhouse and/or bird bath at their place
Point out when a rodent’s going by and ask them if they’re going go catch their dinner now
Mercy
She thinks they’re absolutely remarkable
Like, she’s just so fascinated
Asks if they’ll allow her to observe and/or examine them
Basically, she wants to touch their feathers and wings, and ask them about how they do things
Ex. They don’t have hands, only wings. How do they pick up things? Eat? Do they do things with their feet instead, their mouth?
Mercy must know
She’s basically just kind of nerding out about it
She makes sure to act more or less professional about things though
But she’s really spazzing on the inside because what an interesting creature t h e y a r e
Pharah
She finds them intriguing but doesn’t really press about the subject
Like, maybe they’re sensitive about their part-bird anatomy
She doesn’t know, so she won’t ask
If they bring it up or something, she’ll voice her curiosities though
She finds their bird mannerisms amusing
Like, “Shit they’re preening that’s fuckin’ cute”
If they’re comfortable with it, Pharah will probably ask them to race her
She’s good-natured about the entire ordeal though
If they win, she’d be hella surprised but congrats all around and might even ask for tips
Not that she can do exactly what a bird-person can but one can try and Pharah’s not one for giving up
Tracer
You know how in Steven Universe, Steven gets literally starry eyed every once in a while? Like actual star shapes appear in his eyes?
That’s Tracer’s reaction
Plus non-stop questions
Tracer’s an excitable bean and this time is no exception
Can they fly?
Do they eat small animals and bugs like birds do?
How exactly were they born as a bird-person?
Were they even born that way? Maybe they were scientifically altered.
She’ll trade answers for answers
It turns into a game of 20 Questions, basically
And she genuinely means all them
Are they afraid of cats?
Yes, even that one.
Not ashamed to ask about feeling their feathers
Hell, their legs are bird legs; she wants to touch those too
She asks first, of course
While Reaper would be joking, she would bring them bird seed or a decorated bird house as genuine gifts
Lucky for her, they actually do like bird seed and they think the house is cute
K05/302: Gamera
The amazing thing about the very first Gamera movie is that they meant it.  By the time it died in 1971, the original Gamera franchise had become a joke even to its makers.  The lack of budget and effort were visible on screen, and the inclusion of things like Guiron, or Gamera playing his theme song on Zigra's back, suggest that nobody was taking any of this very seriously anymore.  But five years earlier (only five years) when they made Gamera, they weren't kidding at all.  They really wanted to make a scary kaiju film, and put everything they had into doing so.
The movie starts when a nuclear-armed bomber crashes in the arctic, and its warhead explodes in the wreck – this wakes Gamera, a sixty-metre, fire-breathing, saber-toothed turtle that has been sleeping in the glacier since Atlantis sank all those thousands of years ago.  Gamera begins flying around the world creating havoc, but also saving the life of a turtle-obsessed little boy named Toshio (I watched a version with subtitles, not the American dub that begat the tradition of naming annoying Japanese kids Kenny).  Toshio thereafter becomes convinced that his vanished pet turtle, Chibi, has grown to enormous size and become Gamera, and embarks on a personal crusade to stop the army from killing it.
Fortunately, at least from Toshio's point of view, the army's not having much luck anyway.  Heat won't kill Gamera, not after he already survived an atomic explosion.  Electricity is tried, and fails.  Heavy artillery doesn't even make him mad.  Fire turns out to be what he eats.  They try an experimental 'freeze bomb' to keep him still while they dynamite the hill below him to flip him on his back, but he just flies away.  In the end, there's only one thing they can do, and that's trap the turtle in a rocket and blast him to Mars!
I spent half my review of It Lives by Night complaining that bats aren't as scary as everybody thinks they are.  Now here's Gamera, a movie about a creature that isn't scary at all! Nobody's scared of turtles.  Even people who are terrified of snakes and lizards generally don't mind them, because popular ideology does not associate turtles with anything harmful.  Turtles are proverbially slow and rather helpless, unable to right themselves if flipped on their backs.  Their evolution has sacrificed speed and power for the protection of the cumbersome shell.  Rather than being in any way sources of threat, turtles are often symbolic of the ability to hunker down and weather it.  Making a movie about a monster turtle is, when you think about it, even more absurd than making one about killer bunny rabbits.
The people at Daiei knew this, of course, and the movie goes to some trouble to counter Gamera's general turtle-ness.  Being a turtle, he's not fast and his motion is severely restricted by the shell (I'd also bet that poor Aragaki Teruo, the guy in the suit, had a hell of a sore back at the end of a filming day).  His enormous size helps, but apparently it just wasn't enough in the minds of the writers to really make him scary. That's why they've also given him teeth, including the upward-pointing tusks that are one of his most notable features.  He breathes fire as well as absorbing it, and he flies.  A flying turtle is a very strange idea, and Gamera's way of flying, by spinning and shooting fire out of the arm and leg sockets in his shell, is particularly bizarre.  The only natural turtle feature the movie makes use of is the invulnerable shell.
When I try to imagine what might have inspired somebody to choose a turtle for their monster movie, I draw an almost total blank. In Japanese folklore the turtle is a symbol of stability and longevity, and a guardian of the city of Kyoto.  There are stories about mountain-sized tortoises, but these are not threatening creatures, either.  All I can really come up with is that they wanted something reptilian, to match Toho's Godzilla.  A dinosaur, or even a lizard or crocodile, would have been too Godzilla-like, though, and a snake doesn't lend itself well to a man-in-suit kaiju depiction... that left a turtle, and they had to work with it.
Gamera is a lot scarier-looking in this movie than he is in any of the sequels.  The black and white film helps, making everything look more atmospheric and menacing, but the design of Gamera himself is also slightly different.  It's a more elaborate and detailed suit than in the later films, and more effort seems to have gone into making him pointy, with the claws and teeth and the sharp scales on his back.  He also looks less rubbery here than he would in later movies, although that may be less about the suit and more about the cinematography: Gamera is always lit from near the ground to emphasize his height, and is more likely to attack by night than by day, when he can be seen by firelight.  Whereas in later movies Gamera is treated like a sort of theme park mascot, here shots are set up to make him a genuine monster.  The images of fleeing people being crushed by debris or roasted by Gamera's fire aren't good from an effects standpoint, but they are very explicit about what's happening.
Gamera is still damned odd, though, so it's fortunate that everybody in this movie seems able to take things in stride.  When the ship in the opening sequence sends a message that it has sighted a sixty-metre turtle, nobody in the American air force base bats an eye.  In any sane movie such a thing would be dismissed as a hallucination or mistake, and the Americans would have to see the monster for themselves to be convinced.  In Gamera people think it's weirder that Toshio likes drawing turtles than they do when an actual two-hundred-foot turtle appears in the arctic!  About the only time people react with what seems like an appropriate level of what the fuck astonishment is when they realize Gamera can fly.
The weirdest thing in this entire movie, though, is the opening.  As the movie begins, a number of planes are on their way over the pole, carrying nuclear weapons.  There's only one thing that can possibly be going on here: World War III has begun.  One of the planes crashes in the arctic and frees Gamera, but what happens to the rest we don't know.  They can't have actually made it to the USA to drop their nukes, because Dr. Hidaka is being interviewed in New York shortly afterwards and the city appears quite whole and happy.  It seems everybody has just completely forgotten about the nuclear strike.
By 'everybody' I don't just mean the characters this movie is specifically concerned with, either – I mean the whole damn world, including the people who ordered the attack and the people it was targeted at.  Nobody in the movie ever explicitly blames the USSR but in a movie from 1965 there's really nobody else who could be directly attacking the United States.  Later in the movie, however, the US and the USSR are working together on Z Plan, as if a giant turtle attacking Japan is somehow more important than the cold war suddenly getting hot.  I'm pretty sure that in literally any other movie, the nuclear attack would be important or even central to the plot.  Here it just sort of vanishes.
Finally, I must ask what we are to make of the relationship between Gamera and Toshio.  Actually, 'relationship' is probably the wrong word – they only interact once, when Gamera saves Toshio from falling to his death off the lighthouse.  This appears to be a deliberate act of mercy on Gamera's part, but if so, it's the only evidence of such behaviour in the entire movie.  For the rest of the film, Gamera feeds on energy, stomps around destroying stuff, and flies away from threats, but he never again appears to notice the humans at his feet.  Saving Toshio is also the only time there seems to be any real intelligence or purpose to Gamera's actions.  The rest of the time, he is only an animal trying to survive.
I guess technically, Toshio is in the movie because kids like monster movies and need a child character to identify with, but that's really not enough to justify his presence.  In later Gamera movies, the children are often the ones who actually save the day (as in Gamera vs Viras) or at least have a place, however poorly-justified, in the action (as in Gamera vs Gyaos).  In Gamera, Toshio spends the whole movie chasing after his turtle friend, but it has no effect on the plot besides to keep the kid as an observer in the middle of things.  He is never disabused of the notion that Gamera is his vanished pet, or that the monster means well in spite of all the destruction he is causing.  The movie seems to believe that having introduced Toshio, it needs to somehow keep him around for the entire running time, and therefore makes excuses to do so.
Of course, the real purpose of Toshio's rescue is to put something in reserve for the sequel.  If we hadn't seen Gamera do this in the first movie, him saving the world in Gamera vs Barugon would come totally out of left field.  It's just unfortuante that there's no place for the interaction in this movie's narrative.
Gamera is really just as silly and nonsensical as its own sequels, but the tone is totally different.  Here everything, from Gamera's bizarre ability to fly to his rescue of Toshio to Aoyagi's unrequited crush on Kyoko, is meant to be taken entirely seriously. This is why Gamera comes across as one of the most earnest and sincere films in the series, and seems to have the most respect for its audience as it never talks down to us.  Unfortuantely, it's also among the less memorable of the Gamera movies.  As far as making an impression goes, apparently you can't beat a pug with a knife for a face.
Sketchdump - Adrex and Aliens (Plus Mermay)
I did something a while back those days. And yes, it's another new sketchdump, this time I did every each one on Procreate! So far I did pretty amazing this cool alien sketches and my precious OC Adrex Trans, didn't expect to improve my sketch work so well beauty! Not just that, for this special May, there's a monthly drawing challenge called Mermay that I just did a beautiful new subspecies I called a Merturriam! I'm so in love on what I did all this & for this May event! ヽ(*≧ω≦)ノ 乂❤‿❤乂 I might do more this month of Mermay sketches!
💠BIO
🔶Top Sketches
1. Here's my first sketches of my OC alien transformed Adrex Trans with his buddy Mythical Repturrvern Serzya! I did something funny, but true about friendship on being his best companion rider since he meet as a baby. Something come from my brainstorming I been doing long time ago. Here's down a rough sketch, he riding his bud! Also here's a mini Adrex & behind him "that's me"! Yup me! This is something humorous stuff I did, lol.
2. Here's my old creature Tyraphod, a quite well sketch did that next day, he's so cute and cuddly that I wanna huge him if was real. I haven't drawn my old bud years since I introduced this guy! This was one of my fav alien design I ever done, look of how fun and curious he play on a odd looking crystal in underwater. This is why I love leopard geckos and the Diplocaulus!
3. This third one that same day I did a quick study of my OC Repturriam Adrex Trans of poses and such. I use a reference pose photo Looking Down 02 from a fellow talent deviant Null-Entity he do poses, so I sketch on this reference pose photo to study my character. In exception, I drew the next pose with dragon wings myself, pretty cool possibility he might get wings! Next I did a portrait sketch, and he looks so beautiful well drawn I did. And lastly I draw a chibi size Adrex, he looks so adorable!
4. Next day has gone way better, I sketch an awesome humanoid experimental alien Xikzon and so well detailed badass. I used a 3d modeled pose on Twitter to sketch this guy and looks so good amazing! Now this a perfect looking alien, kinda from what I seen some SciFi movies I been watching from old times I can't remember.
🔶Bottom Sketches
5. Some small biomechanical Xikzons sketches I did pretty dope, but cool. The first I did something silly like a Spectral Biomechanical thing like a ghost alien machine that has been abandon, not my best thing, but I'm OK with that. The second I did looks pretty promising, something reminds me on a horror scifi game that I seen small bots, but this one is different, I did an Xikzon Biomech Bot like this robot thing has a organic component stuff like the eye and some organs on the inside, sounds nasty. The last one looks so badass, it looks like between one of my alien centipede design I did years ago, but this is a modification like a huge grub centipede biomechanical creation from the Xikzons. Looks pretty inspired from my fav scifi movies Aliens, but pretty different design.
6. Last day, I did an amazing beautiful sketch of one of the species of Repturrvern, a common one, but a different morph species. It's so beautiful and I believe it's a perfect original species of looking dragon I ever did for years. However for this morph I added like double crystals spikes and some hairy tentacles horns on their head both sides. I might have a bunch of ideas to do many designs for this lovely species, just need more sketches to study.
7. Lastly... Bonus, a special sketch drawing of the special May challenge event drawing Mermay! I did something to finish up my sketchdump a beautiful new kind of subspecies of Aquaturriam I like to called a Merturriam, an Mermaid Repturriam. She's so gorgeous and the body I sketch so smooth and flexible indeed. Gonna make more daily for May since I introduced quickly an early sketch design of this new kind of female Repturriam. Remember, on my brainstorming, I believe most females are pretty petals, less horny, and much beautiful like this one.
🔻Time Taken: 1-3 hours each one (2-3 per day)
Who Are Those Chibi Characters? [10 Anniversary Special]
So you’re now accustomed to the gallery and all its intricacies. But you’re probably wondering what those Chibi characters are adorning the header (and several other areas, like on Twitter, DeviantArt, Pixiv, and the 10 Anniversary Poster). I’ve already explained a little bit on both DeviantArt and Pixiv where they come from. But now I’ll give a full explanation as to when they were created, what they were associated with, what years they represent, and if they’ll still have any use in any projects or stories I create.
Tumblr media
I should probably start with the fish, the odd-man out of the entire group. Finne is my mascot. He technically debuted in 2006 under a different name and part of a fan-game idea. However in 2009, I started drawing him more frequently among my friends and family, acting as something of a calling card whenever I was around and I wanted to leave behind a drawing. He was quick and easy to draw compared to other characters I’ve done. He soon became part of my “DeadPhoenX” logo in 2010. My gaming blog “The Wired Fish” was also named after him and incorporated into the site’s logo. Today, he’s still in almost everything I do. As a matter of fact, since 2015 he’s included as an Easter egg in all original art (not fanart) that I do. Think can you find him? He represents years 2010-2013. Artwork With Finne: He's everywhere!
Tumblr media
Chelsí is the next one, full name Chelsí Pleinair. Her creation is an interesting case and is something that almost every girl in this group has in common. She was created in 2004 as “Chelsea” and was a schoolgirl with a French Painter theme. Her design was inspired by a line of Lollipop Girls dolls that my sister was collecting. The story she was included in was actually a hentai story I had concepts of. However that went nowhere with the story being scrapped (but the characters being retained for repurposing in other stories). She was then (somewhat subconsciously) repurposed for a medieval fantasy story as a French-themed princess around late 2005. Like before, it too was hentai themed. However that story was scrapped too (with the characters being retained as well). So she was never drawn again until 2015. There was a ribbed sweater craze going on in the ecchi art community, and I was wondering how I could get in on it. Then I remembered having a French painter girl in my repertoire of characters that wore a sweater. So I brought her back with her old design and under a new name spelling, Chelsí, and made her sweater ribbed. Once uploaded, she became my postergirl for everything I do, representing the art side of things. Since she debuted in very late 2015 but had more art in 2016, she represents 2016. The catgirl, Rhapsody, was actually something of an error in both name and design. Starting with the name, she was actually a short-and-pink-haired catgirl. She debuted with a set of 5 catgirls and was part of a regular story idea I had. You can still find her tucked away in my DeviantArt gallery. All catgirls I’ve ever drawn had musically themed names. Here’s where the error part comes in. I had another catgirl under a different name that has the current white paws, pink stripes, and blonde hair look. She was part of a hentai story idea that saw all the catgirls from the normal story repurposed to here and completely naked. So she was a new addition to the group. When it came time to draw her and Lullaby together on DeviantArt, I realized too late that I accidentally named the new girl Rhapsody. So I pretty much gave her the Street Fighter II treatment. She would stay as Rhapsody while the old one would have whatever name the new girl originally had. She represents her online debut year, 2007. Belinda comes from the second hentai story idea that Chelsí once appeared in. All I could remember was that she was a witch, and that’s about it. Any details about her relevance to the story were all forgotten. In 2015, I wanted to get in on the Halloween art and had the perfect character I could use. So I brought back Belinda from the Scraps ghetto and gave her the full artwork treatment 10 years later (since the story she was in was conceived in 2005). She currently doesn’t have much of a story and is really only made for anything Halloween/spooky themed. Since she made her online debut in 2006, that’s the year she represents. Artwork with Belinda: Belinda's Halloween Rush (2015) Next is Harriette. She came from the same hentai story that Rhapsody came from. Talking more about that story, the theme of it was mythical fantasy-creature girls. Not necessarily monster girls, but things like Mermaids, wood nymphs, fairies, angels, catgirls, etc. Harriette (whose original name was simply Fluffy), was one of only two bunnygirls in that story. She never made her debut online and was never repurposed for any other story. When Easter 2015 was close by, I figured it was time I drew her again. However since Japanese artists and quite a bit of the ecchi/hentai community like it, I decided to make her a bit thicker this time, as well as give her a new name. Her name is actually a pun on “Hare”, which actually gave me a hard time sometimes when I would say her name out loud and trying to squeeze the “Hare” in there. I’ve since given up and just pronounce it like normal. Since someone already has 2015, Harriette’s online debut year, she instead represents 2005, the year before I joined DeviantArt (and having any online presence). The No-Name Mermaid comes from the same hentai story as Harriette and Rhapsody. She actually had a name back then, however around that time naming things didn’t really work too well. I can’t remember her name right now, but it was probably something simple and dumb. So now she doesn’t have a name. She was paired with another mermaid in that story that I might draw in the future. I wanted to do something water themed in 2015 that would help me flex my background-making muscles at the time. In bringing her back, I changed up her tail fin design a bit, and also made the tied hair more straight instead of making it flow out like big strands. She represents her online debut year, 2015. Maybe she’ll finally have a name before the decade ends! Artwork with the No-Name Mermaid: Sailing Through The Sea (2015)
Lola’s origin is actually kinda forgotten. I can’t quite remember if she came from either a hentai story or a different story. Regardless, she ended up getting repurposed for the only story idea to make it to DeviantArt, Devangie’s Fairy Tale. She herself made her debut in 2007 with a light counterpart. However I made the mistake of building up her individual story, as well as others, before building up the world she would inhabit. This is something that I did a lot during my highschool/pre-online days. This would result in a lot of stories getting the axe and the characters shelved or repurposed. This would also include Devangie’s Fairy Tale. That story has been abandoned with all the human characters (except one of them) getting shelved. The fairies that were in that story might get repurposed back into the hentai that they were once in. I currently have plans to repurpose Lola into a normal story, this time without her light half. She represents year 2007. Artwork with Lola: Hell Hath No Fury (2007), Darket of Lolitas (2007)
Lady Jess comes from a series of girls I drew in 2009 called the BladeLadies. At the time, I was really into rock and heavy metal, getting a metal poster calendar and got inspired by the music video Ghost Town by the group Shiny Toy Guns. I remember sketching out a more realistic semi-nude Heavy-Metal inspired woman in a small sketchbook I had. Right next to her I drew this tiny puppet like thing with a cartoonish blade, a helmet covering half her head, and very pointy torpedo-tits. I wondered what this would look like if it was drawn larger. So I did that on the next page. I then got the idea to draw more of them with different boob deformations and weapons. The end result was seven of them being made. Also around this time was when I would change programs right in the middle of the series, forcibly getting switched from Picture Publisher 7 to GIMP. This was when my artwork creating skills would improve with better hardware. Lady Jess represents 2009. Artwork with Lady Mimi: Bladeladies - Lady Jess (2009)
Lady Mimi is my newest creation, making her debut in 2014 with the series BladeLadies 2nd. She was actually conceived soon after the first wave of BladeLadies ended, most likely around 2009/2010. The old theme of BladeLadies 2nd was actually based on gore, building up from the first wave’s theme of rock and heavy metal. I had drawn some BladeLadies concepts, with a few catching on. One of them was Lady Mimi with the giant piecing in her tongue and the tongue length being much shorter than now. At this time however, I had really bad artist block as well as college work eating up a huge chunk of my time. On top of that, I ended up realizing how bad I actually was at drawing gore. Upon my return to making pics on DeviantArt, I decided to bring back the BladeLadies. The theme was switched from gore to a circus, and this some had something of a story unlike the first wave. But it’s very minimal right now so that I can build the world first. Lady Mimi represents 2014. Artwork with Lady Mimi: BladeLadies 2nd (2014).
Meet the newest girl to the chibi parade, Xiuying Gushan! Like many of the other girls, Xiuying had her start in a hentai story. And like the others, when that story folded, they were all shelved. Due to my lack of knowledge on the specifics of Chinese and Japanese culture and language back then, Xiuying's original name wasn't even Chinese, but Japanese. I had desires to bring her back for a while, but I didn't find a good time to do it. I finally had a chance during this year's Lunar New Year celebration. The release did something of a snag, but I was able to upload the pic close enough to the Lunar New Year Date to be relevent enough. Currently, Xiuying is being utuilized in a story as high-ranking general. The story details won't be known anytime soon however. Xiuying represent 2017. Artwork with Xiuying: Natsuko Nakahara (2005, old name), Elegant Flower of the Lone Mountain (2017).
