Ijla (EE-juh-lah)

Deceased half-brother of Zaj. Male Sarpa. The Sarpa race is known for its brutality and blood-thirst, as well as a rather grotesque battlefield presence. They are able to unhinge their jaws in order to take large bites of prey or scoop out the trachea of their enemies.

Ijla is rather unusual for a Sarpa. While many have volcanic tempers, he is for the most part collected and reasonable. He would lay his life down for his family, though half of them don’t give a flying fuck about him.

Sadly he had to die for plot.

So I made this for two reasons- the first, to give you guys something to chew on while I finish that tradition portrait, and the second, to pitch an idea at you. So I have this culture, the Otheli, and they live in the north and their main crops are greens such as kale and collards, as well as broccoli, cabbage, radishes and leeks. They farm muskoxen and a type of extremely poisonous salamander that live in icy cold mountain streams. The colors of their monarchy are orange and brown, which can be seen when the sun sets over the horizon. They savor any color they see, as Othel is not an overly colorful place. Now here’s the idea I have to pitch. You know how, years and years and years ago (my brain wants to saw the Victorian or Edwardian era but idk if that’s correct) people used to change clothes and gowns based on the time of day? So what if Otheli families that are higher up wear face paint, and they change is depending on time of day, month, year, or even their social status or martial status? I feel like that could be really beautiful to look at. Tell me what you think. I feel like the dot between the eyes should symbolize marriage (unity, a circle, etc) and the color should symbolize profession?? Red seems like a warrior color to me. Maybe that’s cliché.
