Final Digital Piece
Tumblr media
I wanted my final piece to be a combination of different elements of both section 1 and 2. I used photos from section 1, parts of artwork from section 2′s mixed media and mono printing and took new photos that represented my theme as well. The three females represent past, present and future, but in a distorted way to put emphasise on areas in life a person could feel insecure about and how a pretty picture doesn't always tell you what someone is feeling inside. For example you could obsess about the past whilst the future begs you to stay in the present even if it hurts.
I used a variety of techniques to create this piece such as layering, changing opacity, invert, the pen tool, copy and paste and messing around with vibrancy and saturation.
I really think that the piece as a whole tells my theme of the passage of time, from the plant life growing, and fading in areas like the cycle of life, old black and white photos turning digital and a persons ever changing identity. I also like the patchy look to the piece as it mimics how a person has to build up their character as they grow to thrive. I also enjoy how the books give off an ominous vibe, warning you to learn from past mistakes.

Final Piece

Yay it’s done!
I really loved making this and I think that my concepts came out amazingly well in each piece of the triptych.
The section with books represents the knowledge that the past arms us with and how it also shapes us, building our character of the present. I wanted to give it a patchwork feel using the stitching which I think is successful. The quote talks about how we can be closer with our pasts than living in the present, it is by Patricia Briggs.
The section with the fabric rose and stamp represents coming into womanhood, the pink and red rose symbolises periods, the stamp growing in beauty and that journey that we take. The quote used here talks about time touching eternity and I thought it brought together the idea of finally becoming a woman and how it is represented as a time of great importance. The quote is by C.S Lewis. I actually used the cut out of my stencil from the monoprinting for the vine and I think it brought out that idea of new growth and the strength we as females must have.
The third section with the bright colours was a representation of myself and how I have changed, embracing my new art and searching for the sunrise I crave. I used a seed stitch to symbolise that search, I did it in the direction of the yellow button that I see as both a sun and by itself I also believe it looks like a grandfather clock, directly relating to my theme of the passage of time.
I also used the metal rings I continuously worked with throughout this section as I think it brings the piece together and I enjoyed using them.
Altogether I am extremely happy with my final piece and the way it represents my theme, myself and how time passes in different ways.
Materials used:
Paper, metal rings, masking tape, black ink, red ink, vermillion ink, coffe, staples, tape, decorative tape, wallpaper, paper leaves, fasteners, double sided tape, pen, thread, embroidery thread, scalpel, plastic folder covered, card, stamp, pva to make parts shiny, glue gun to melt plastic, old paint palette on cardboard, brown parcel paper, pocket lining, colouring book page, old nightgown(muslin), cotton, button, polyester, tearing, layering, writing, sticking, puncturing, scrunching, cutting, drawing, painting, staining, hand sewing, free hand, back stitch, seed stitch, running stitch and cross stitch.

Manipulated fabric monoprinting 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The top image is the stencil and again this is from my fencing image and work from section 2.
Honestly this was one of my favourite prints to do out of all the monoprinting I did. It is just such a strong solid form and the ghosts of both sides are really interesting as well.
I was trying out an opposite/ying yang idea, with the colouring of the pieces swapped behind each one. The fencing crossing almost gives off a warning not to cross but its bold look and the enticing green draw your eye.
Materials used:
Denim, black ink, green ink, staining, painting, glue gun, acrylic paint, fluffy blanket, tearing, cutting and scalpel.

The top image is the stencil and comes from my water work and photos in section 1.
I wanted to echo the water and landscape feeling to the water and placed the cut and bleached denim opposite with a similar shape.
Again I wanted to press the leftover ink that got on the back of the stencil on extra paper which I liked.
Materials used:
Coffee, staining, painting(coffee on paper), cutting, bleaching, denim and tearing.

The top images are the front and back of the stencil. I took inspiration from photos and art from section 1 for this.
I enjoyed pressing the back of the print for ghosts as well because it gave a very drawn effect.
I was going for the concept of pregnancy here, with the stuffed circle and buttons being the baby and the vine growing out of it was the beauty of pregnancy and how the future will always keep developing, this was echoed by the repeats.
Materials used:
Buttons, thread, stuffing, running stitch, bleach, old clothes, glue gun, cutting and scalpel.

Manipulated paper monoprinting
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The top image is of my stencil, it was originally bigger but I decided to cut off the end. It comes from one of my section 1 collages.
My favourite one was with the bubble wrap and it surprisingly held the mono paint well.
The idea around this was growth, the ladder was the steps leading to a better time, nature’s beauty and moving on.
Materials used:
Tissue paper, coffee, pva glue, match, burning, tape, styrofoam casing, ripping, cutting, scalpel, wallpaper, thread, brown parcel paper, found paper, paper leaf, bubble wrap, painting, staining and layering.
