|| Stok Monastery or Stok Gompa is situated 15 km south of Leh, in a place called Stok in Ladakh. In 14th century, Lama Lhawang Lotus founded this buddhist monastery which houses a notable library including all 108 volumes of the Kangyur. The monastery also holds a ritual dance-mask festival annually. A 71 feet (22 m) high seated Gautam Buddha statue is next to the monastery a long with a temple, constructed between 2012-2015 and consecrated by the 14th Dalai Lama. The Stok palace is located around 2 km from the monastery. || Thiksey monastery precinct at the foot of the hill has a courtyard from where a flight of steps leads to the main monastery (one of the 10 temples here), which is 12 stories in height. It contains a 15 metres (49 ft) high statue of Maitreya Buddha, the largest such statue in Ladakh, covering two stories of the building. A wall at the entrance to the assembly hall or main prayer hall depicts murals of the Tibetan calendar with the Bhavacakra –the Wheel of Life. This wheel has insignia images of a snake, a bird and a pig that signify ignorance, attachment, and aversion. || One of the largest structure in central Ladakh is Thikse Monastery. Located on a hill slope, the monastery buildings are arranged in an ascending order of importance and are well spaced. The foot of the hill houses the dwelling units with the top of the hill enshrining the monasteries and potang (official residence) of the chief lama. It is said that the architecture of the monastery strongly resembles the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, the former official seat of the Dalai Lamas.
