This stone so firmly shackled to the earth,
And the sky turning without end.
I found no light here.
Only the shadows of those promised life.

I like to think that my heart can pull those I love closer to me like a magnetic force, a call that is calm and warm in the spaces between us. In the deep of the night when all is asleep but for the magic that slips between the cracks in the sky and the corners of the wood, through a mirror on the wall or a deck of cards on the shelf, I feel that the world becomes bigger and smaller all at once. As though my fingers could put the spark of life into anything they touch, and yet my tiny body could fall helpless into the whirlpool of stars overhead. Maybe, if we’re just quiet enough, we can feel our own distinct presence in the world. A tiny glimmer. The faintest breath. Maybe discovering that presence, that magic, that spark, is the secret to changing the future.
